The Uptake turned ten back in February, and I had the itch to breathe a bit of a design refresh for the four face-characters of the series. What started as a doodle ended up a rendered painting, oops.

I didn’t realize just how long the table of contents post is when it’s injected in the dash. Here’s a link to it instead.
In 2050, e-waste has become locally commodified by slums termed stalkers’ quarters, their inhabitants as stalkers; but, not only obsolete technology gets dumped at ground level in skyward-sweeping metro-cities. Galen Miner, a stalker in Tri-City, New Jersey, suffers an accident in a toxic waste dumping site the day after Christmas, only for things to get more and more bizarre. Lots of body horror, and a plot balancing half a dozen figuratively toxic people and one literally toxic guy.
Melanochro Kara–he goes by ‘Choly–has what one could lightly call an infatuation with the human condition. If one were to suggest that an obsession with violating the parameters of humanity were a loving infatuation. Long since idolizing such fictional figures as Gregor Samsa and Killer Moth, this Bill Lee type has his eyes on the Supermarket Geek: the first real metahuman to step into the media crosshairs.
TW’s include pica and disordered eating, dysmorphia and body horror, incest, and a myriad of types of abuse.

they’re more of a rogue’s rogue… like, they antagonize the rogues, but they’re not remotely good guys either. talk about d-list… sociopath ot3 descriptions under a cut
melancholy tried to get the same powers as a specific metahuman, but it backfired and now he just kinda goes ragdoll limp if he’s not wearing head-to-toe orthotic braces. he stalks metahumans that he thinks he’s in love with and tries to show them how much he’s fallen for them, but it always tends to unravel any reformation the meta did while in neo-arkham. he thinks he’s in love with most metahumans whose mutations include physical stuff. he also thinks he’s a bug but has never afforded splicing to become the One True Gregor Samsa gotham’s next killer moth
augen’s technically one of those “just like all my friends” vampire splicers. he’s made of lamprey and bat and some other stuff. metagens will work on him, but his body will revert eventually. splicing got creative after it got banned. what can i say. the longest boy. he’s my tallest non-giant oc lmfao
and basard librarian, who just goes by cecil… peak “looks harmless, will kill you without hesitation.” he’s in charge of some of the biggest servers in the city, and he… has a tranquilizer gun. he’s got an ongoing rabid feud with mad stan
i have never in all these years settled on an ot3 name for them but they are madly in love and all deranged as hell, and terry almost always encounters them driving other rogues insane
