MK / strong! Reader
(also tysm for the request, this was fun to write :3)
𖤓 !! — "right, so I want someone to explain how we got into this mess in the first place." Pigsy would ask as everyone took a pause on their respected task. Mei and Red Son were over in one corner, MK and you were standing in the center, Tang was with Pigsy, and Wukong and Macaque were in the other room; though they both would peak their head in, Macaque sorely unamused while Wukong was wondering why they had all been stopped.
Surely, stopping everyone to ask one little question isn't the smartest thing. Especially when you were on a time restraint there was only half an hour left before everyone dies! (not really)
"Well from what I remember.." Tang started, tapping his chin before he began to recount the details that lead everyone into this unescapable room:
𖤓 !! — MK, Mei, and you were at Wukong's 'shame temple' a few miles outside of the city. Ever since the Azure King was defeated, and no new villains seemed to be in the future, there had been a lot of down time for everyone. Though down time usually didn't halt any sort of training, especially when it was Wukong who was teaching the lessons.
So, instead of spending your Saturdays at the arcade, or doing literally anything else, Wukong had the three of you train, for whatever reason.
𖤓 !! — It wasn't fun, not one bit. Especially since Wukong never really asked if Mei and you wanted to join, he just told you two to be there to help with MK's training. (I mean, if he had given you two the option, you and Mei would have said yes but it was a lot less fun when you're given no option.)
𖤓 !! — "And just like that, you can counter any attack that comes your way!" Wukong finished with a grin, jumping up and sitting back against the cloud that formed under him. He seemed rather indifferent to the staring kids, one of which was completely confused and the other two being mystified with Wukong's guidance.
"You literally just told us a story about yourself!" You would point out, cocking an eyebrow up at Wukong with a suspicious look. What was a story from, probably, hundreds of years ago meant to help with basic counter attack training? But, Mei and MK seemed to hype up Wukong's story, leaving you stuck in the middle of their gushing.
"Aw, stop it you two!" Wukong feigned being gushed and flushed, "I know, I'm just that awesome!"
𖤓 !! — Sadly, as you expected, being awesome wasn't exactly the recipe needed for MK to learn how to counter strike against an opponent. And he had to sit out after being bashed a few times by Mei and Wukong, as you refused to hit your boyfriend after he was ill trained my his mentor! Which Wukong seemed to put Wukong's panties into a twist:
"I taught him how to do it! He just needs a couple more times to practice and it would be helpful if you helped!" Wukong bitterly stated, crossing his arms as MK laid under a pile of rock not too far away. His groan was the only thing you needed to hear to know that Wukong hadn't taught him shit.
Mei rushed over to help MK out of his tough spot, as he was sore, and you only gestured over to the two with a 'you're seeing this, right?' to Wukong. Though he only glanced away, crossing his arms, with a denying face. Of course, what else should you have expected from the 'Great Sage' himself?
"Well if you think you know better, then you fight me!" Wukong would mumble under his breath, unaware that you had caught his words.
But you crossed your arms and shrugged your shoulders, "Sure." Leaving a slightly startled Wukong in response to your response, and a worried MK and Mei.
𖤓 !! — Now MK knew you trained, and he knew you were strong, you've helped on missions before and even helped MK with some more hand-to-hand combat training when Wukong wasn't available. Yet he couldn't help but worry about your duel with Wukong!
And it wasn't him doubting you in no means, it was more of a rational thought process? You were mortal, Wukong was immortal. Wukong had the staff, you choose to fight with your fists. You both were trying to prove some point that MK had just barely caught when Mei managed to grab him out of the rubble. It was kind of an unfair fight. Plus, Wukong had hundreds of years of experience over you!
"Hey, you know you don't have to do this... right?" MK shouted as he pressed an ice pack to his cheek, Mei rapping another bandage over his injured arm.
"Don't worry about me, I got this." You would mumble back to MK, glancing over at him with a small smile, before turning back to Wukong. You were going to put this godly monkey in his damn place!
𖤓 !! — Well, at least you intended to. But now you only sat to the side of the training ground, having been dragged away and forced to sit on the ground by MK and Mei as you wouldn't stop trying to fight Wukong. Even after he may or may not have thrown you into a mountain and slapped you around with his staff, but hey, you managed to get a good few punches on him!
"Self confidence and being overly cocky won't get you anywhere in a battle!" Wukong would scold you, despite you not being his student, as he stood beside the trio.
You would flinch as MK would tie the bandage on your arm a little too tight, but gave Wukong an unamused glance anyways. You couldn't believe he was tying to scold you after you proved your point! Sure, you didn't win, but you showed Wukong didn't really teach MK how to counter attack, "You're literally bleeding out of your nose right now."
"Alright, can we not fight right now? You're both bleeding!" MK mumbled, fumbling with the bandages as Mei ran back out with some disinfectant spray. She paused upon seeing MK bandaging up your wounds and shouted at him, playfully, that he needed to disinfect the wounds first!
𖤓 !! — "And then Wukong said: 'If you had used your head you would have figured out all the times you could have counter attacked me.' and then that somehow spiraled into us coming into this escape room." Tang would finish his little recap to a heavily unamused Pigsy, who slowly turned over to where the two culprits stood with their partners. To say he wasn't upset would be an understatement.
"We're in here because you challenged the Monkey King to an escape room to see who's smarter?!" Pigsy watched as you pieced your lips to his shouting, glancing away from him for a moment. You would slowly shrug your shoulders before letting out a questionable,
"Yes?" To which the room only grew silent. The only sensible ones giving you and Wukong an glare, one you could only guess meant that you both somehow overlooked something. Something important, something critical. Something that may or may not make this whole trip a waste of time, other than a lovely 'family bonding' experience.
"But we're all completing the same escape room." Red Son would finally point out. Ah! There is was! That one critical thing that was overlooked, there would be no clear victor because everyone's combined efforts were being placed into this escape room.
Yeah, neither of you thought that one through.
𖤓 !! — "-And hey, maybe we didn't complete the escape room, but we sure learnt a valuable life lesson!" Wukong would start after everyone had gathered back into Pigsy's after the escape room. Even with the hour time-limit that was given, no one managed to pool together a way to escape the escape room (that didn't include breaking things).
Wukong waited for someone to amuse his banter. Though he stood discarded in the center of Pigsy's as everyone took a seat either at a booth or the counter. Tang would order a bowl of noodles and Pigsy went to go cook said noodles while you sat next to MK, watching as Red Son and Mei bickered over something.
Macaque would snicker, sitting in a booth behind Wukong, as he was still ignored; He was enjoying Wukong getting a little of his own medicine for once, "No one cares, Wukong!"
And despite the defiantly odd day that just occurred, you were finally able to just sit back with your boyfriend, even more a minute, as his mentor went to set down defeated.
You would take MK's hand under the counter, watching as his attention would peak and he snuck a glance over at you. He grew a little flustered upon seeing your smile and couldn't help but smile back. No matter how strong either of you are, physically or mentally, there was surely always a weak spot in both of you for each other.
𖤓 !! — I couldn't add this into the story, but here's some extra points I wanna include!!:
- MK def worries about you when you help in missions, no matter how strong you are. It's just something in his brain because he wants to protect everyone and his friends. So even if you insistent you'll be fine, he sends you off with an MK clone (if he can't personally tag along) as back up!
- You also, in turn, worry about MK and want to do your best to protect him; But, you understand a little better than MK that he can protect himself. Still, all this work with Wukong does leave a rather bad taste in your mouth.
- MK secretly is really glad that you're strong. Sure, he gushes about you and supports you through all your training and battles, but he never realized how glad he actually is that you're strong. He only would realize after the fight with ink him, as your strength, both physically and mentally, kept him sane during the whole fight. Especially after wards, when he had kept trying to deny the new power... he has glad you were there.
- Probably has you play all those carnival games that are strength-related. You let him pick out the prize. Cute couples date, always.
- If you want to, he'll come with you if you want to train or go to the gym. Though, 8 times out of 10 he will just be there for moral support; Sitting in a corner nearby on his phone, cheering you because he's so proud of you no matter how much you can lift. Though, defiantly sometimes uses his golden sight to make sure you're not straining yourself.
- Cools down at the zero gravity arcade with you after <3

LSO AU sounds really interesting! Are we allowed to ask questions about AUs or does it count as a request?
Hi, thank you for asking! Questions are always allowed, even when requests are closed! I’ll elaborate on Let’s Start Over a little bit!
After his own journey ends and MK has his own story penned and published, peace settles across Megapolis and the world in general.
He’s even got himself a new title- “Monkie Knight”, after years of working for the king.
MK still steps in to ward off greater threats and more serious demons, but mostly steps back and attends to the noodle shop with Pigsy, who’s just about ready to pass the keys to his son and maybe take up a more casual lifestyle of teaching instead of serving. Maybe a YouTube channel where he teaches basic skills and recipes to viewers. Tang comes in to both expand on the history of what Pigsy is cooking and to taste test the end result. As expected, he adores the food each time.
Things are okay.
There’s trauma and bitterness that MK needs to work through, but… things are alright. With time, they’ll get better.
And then you come around to the shop one day to visit, right as the Ruyi Jingu Bang comes toppling down from where it’s been set- and you catch it.
So starts your journey.
Our golden-hearted hero is a little soured now, having been thrust into dangerous fights again and again. He’s somewhat resentful to certain individuals-
Mei, for not fighting beside him more often, in spite of her combat prowess and draconic powers. He gets a little twitchy when she’s around, thinking of all the fun she had off on her motorcycle, all the live-streams she giggled and joked her way through. MK doesn’t hate her. Not in a million years. Never. But damn if there’s not some bitterness. He’ll still ask her to ‘babysit’ you when he needs to go off and fight.
Though he still cares about Sandy as a friend, MK has shifted his perspective to disliking the river demon’s pacifistic outlook, viewing it as naive and somewhat selfish. He still goes over to paint and have tea, but things are somewhat strained between the two. It’s easy for someone like Sandy, a side-liner, to say “I’m not fighting anymore!” but MK never had that chance. Given that he was in his mid-teens during the start of his journey in this AU, the hero finds it messed up that he had to fight, but an honest to goodness ex-soldier chose not to. Again, no hatred. Things are just a little tense.
Macaque is pretty far down on his shitlist, actually. MK has taken some time to think on the simian’s actions and kinda wishes he had just let Wukong pummel him to death. Most of these feelings relate to their first meeting, but him assaulting Tang and attacking Mei certainly haven’t helped. Or his unnecessary destruction of the Dragon Palace of the East Sea. Or his refusal to apologize. Yeah, this guy doesn’t get to come anywhere near you. MK will act civil because he does believe in redemption and second chances, but dear lord is it hard.
(And he massively regrets the “you aren’t a bad guy” speech he gave to Macaque. Looking back on it, MK thinks he was naively seeing goodness where it didn’t exist.)
And of course, Sun Wukong, for… a lot of things. He talks rather bitterly of his mentor, viewing the Great Sage as irresponsible and rather immature. He wishes there had been more effort and care in the monkey’s teaching, and less “you can handle this”. There’s still some genuine respect and gratitude for the simian, but MK majorly fixates on being ‘different’ in his own mentorship. Problem is…
He’s choosing to be different instead of better.
Wukong had genuine and honest belief in MK, enough to let him handle trouble on his own. The Great Sage didn’t step in not out of laziness, but because he knew that the kid could handle things on his own. Sure, he was way too secretive and hands-off, but his intentions were only ever to help MK grow.
So when he decides to be entirely opposite to Wukong, our newly titled ‘Knight’ becomes a massive roadblock for you. Instead of cutting you loose with confidence, MK is stifling and protective. He’ll fight for you, cook for you, tend to your wounds, etc. Wukong tried to let MK grow without any form of safety net, but MK refuses to allow any growth without complete safety, which is rare.
Instead of being a mentor who’s trying to build you into the best you that you can be, he’s trying to be a father.
And honestly? Sometimes, he’s so good at the act that you wish it were real.

Lmk ss edits + Headcanons, Part 2 (Pigsy, Tang, Sandy, Sun Wukong, Macaque)
- He/Him
- Bisexual
- Huge environmentalist, if you put any garbage or recycling in the wrong bin expect to get at least a three hour lecture, no you can not escape this, yes MK and Mei have tried, no they did not succeed
- ONLY shops from farmers markets/family businesses, you will never catch this man supporting a corporation
- Use to steal Tang's college hoodies
- Took him the longest to get used to having Redson around and a part of the group , but eventually warmed up to him (is still kinda salty about Redson burning MK's room though)
- Grows his own herbs
- Gets incredibly frustrated when he gets the hiccups (writing this as I'm fighting off hiccups)
- Loves watching true crime shows and listening to true crime podcasts while he does household chores or while he's setting up/closing the shop
- Got his ears pierced with Tang
- MK and Mei call him mom when he's being overbearing, Tang calls him mom now too to tease him
- Once caught Mei and MK sneaking food out of the kitchen at 3am and beat them with a broom for a solid minute because he was too drowsy to recognize them and assumed they were intruders (they were fine)
- Is the type of person to call his husband (Tang) "bro", "dude" etc
- Got drunk in college once and talked about nothing but how much he loved Tang, didn't remember any of it the next day but Tang asked him out pretty quickly after that
- Exchanged a few recipes with DBK while they were at the beach, they still do exchange more recipes once in a while but they don't talk much outside of cooking related topics
- Learned how to play dnd in college because Tang liked the game and ended up liking it a lot more than he expected to so they wound up playing together all the time (they still play it once in a while if they have time)
- Him and Sandy get together every other weekend to try and help Pigsy with his anger management issues
- Never called MK his son while he was growing up because he was scared that MK's real family would show up one day to take him back home, finally realized that no one was gonna show up a short while after MK turned 10 and started acting like an actual parent (MK always saw Pigsy as his dad though)
- Always says "this is the last time" when giving Tang free noodles (it is never gonna be the last time, and Tang knows it)
- Once bumped into a mannequin at the mall and apologized to it, Tang still makes fun of him
- Use to take Mei and MK to conventions all the time until Mei learned how to drive and could take them herself
- Won't care for people getting hurt in movies but will be absolutely crushed if something happens to an animal (sobbed when he watched "A Dog's Purpose")
- Smells like noodles
- Love language is acts of service
- Keeps trying to convince Tang to come with him to family events, has yet to succeed
- Carries around an extra pair of headphones in case Tang or MK needs them
- Almost threw hands with DBK and PiF after hearing about how they treated Redson (seriously guys, I need Redson to have a good parental figure in the next season, please), this man is a father to everyone
- Snores loud as fuck, it's a wonder how Tang gets any sleep

- Still has a septum piercing he got while he was in college but keeps it flipped up, he also has ear gauges
- When he met Pigsy's parents he was super nervous and ended up passing out half way through the night because of anxiety, he has not lived it down and refuses to go to any events with Pigsy if his family is gonna be there (they actually really liked him and are disappointed when he doesn't show up)
- Doesn't own a bookshelf for some reason, everything is just piled on the floor
- Very faint freckles
- Needs a daily 'to do' list, his whole day gets thrown off if he doesn't have some kind of schedule

- Needs headphones on crowded transportation otherwise he'll get stressed at all the noises and talking overlapping eachother

- Slowest typer on the planet (mainly because the screen is too small for his hands), will respond to something 3-5 minutes after they changed topics
- Made seed bombs and threw them everywhere at random around the city and now there's a bunch of flowers and vines growing everywhere
- Was the first one (Aside from Mei and MK) to welcome Redson into the group with open arms, everyone else was still kinda cautious
- Would literally die for any of his friends, no questions asked, no hesitation, just jumps in the line of danger as soon as he sees one of his friends about to get hurt
- Didn't have a lot of friends growing up until he met Pigsy in his last year of high school because everyone was afraid of him
- He and Pigsy were in a band together in college, Sandy discusses it with pride, Pigsy gets embarrassed and denies ever being in a band at all
- Since he also has scales he's the one who teaches and helps Mei look after her scales and keep them from drying or getting damaged
- Yoga master, wakes up super early to do it during sunrise
- Has the best taste in music, he can find the most amazing, tear jerking, heart wrenching, underground music ever effortlessly
- Hasn't met a single person he wasn't able to get along with
- Firmly believes in all the little wishing rituals (11:11, shooting stars, birthday candles, blowing dandelions etc)
- Learned how to whistle so he could sing along with birds
- *gets robbed* "oh, i bet he needed the money, it's ok" "I really don't think he did." "...maybe he's gonna donate it!"
- Favourite kind of tea is earl grey
- Named one of his cats Maquack after Macaque
- Sometimes cat sits for Bai He when she goes to doctor appointments, family visits out of the city, etc
- Got his piercing while he was still in a band but kept them in because his band mates were some of his first friends and they all got pierced together
- Has a tail to help him swim better (unfortunately I could not add it in the edit above but just I imagine he has the same kind of tail as the water Na'vi in Avatar ig)
- Skin has a faint ombre to it (his hands and feet are lighter and fade around his forearms/knees to a slightly darker blue (i did add this one in my edit but unfortunately I don't think it's as visible as I wanted it to be, my bad)
- Webbed hands and feet to help him swim better
- Has adipose eyelids like a fish to protect his eyes from the water, block exposure of harmful ultraviolet light into his eyes and act as protection against impact to the eye in aquatic environments. Since his eyelids are transparent though, he has to wear a sleeping mask at night
- Smells like a mix of ocean air and tea
- Love language is quality time and physical touch (will pick up and hug his friends all the time no matter the place)
- His hair and beard always have something in them, sand, seaweed etc
- Shoes are actually really uncomfortable for him to wear because his body is evolved for an aquatic environment, but he doesn't want to be rude so he wears them anyway (Mei found out and got him a customized pair of shoes so he could be comfortable without feeling like he's being rude)
- Uses Kaomojis
- If he's not busy, or doesn't have anything planned for the next few hours, he'll spend his free time cleaning up the ocean and beaches from any garbage

- Everything he has ever done has been an impulse decision
- Is the type of mf to kick the inside of someone knee while they're walking to make them fold (Tang is the primary victim)
- Chews his nails
- Made up his own constellations as a "fuck you" to the universe (somehow managed to convince some mortals they were real constellations too)
- Mk and Co constantly forget how ancient swk is until he says some old person shit
- Naturally has curly and untamable hair, uses glamor to avoid getting called out about not taking care of it
- Horrifically optimistic
- Always has leaves and dirt and sticks etc in his hair
- Will sit out in the rain for hours on end
- Follow up on the last hc, he's been struck by lightning.. twice
- Actually has really heavy eyebags but uses glamor to cover them up
- Gets bored super easily
- Has naturally long lashes, Mei is still convinced he's wearing makeup though
- Cannot cook for the life of him
- His memories are always in shades of gold, no ones sure if it hasn't something to do with his gold vision or not, even himself, he just can't remember things in normal colour
- Stress induced migraines from the circlet
- Not a fan of big cities but loves how the lights look at night
- Stacks of notebooks and loose paper, cannot keep anything organized
- Takes a nap everyday at exactly 2:38 without fail
- Freezes in the winter, man's house has no insulation whatsoever
- Doesn't like big crowds but also can't stand not being the center of attention
- Once picked fleas out of both MK's and his own hair and ate them, MK was and still is disgusted, he will never look at Monkey King the same way again
- Smells like Peaches (it's like the only fucking thing he eats)
- Love language is physical touch
- Kinda chubby (mostly around his stomach and thighs) but still has muscles
- Always teasing Redson about the fact that he's technically his uncle since he and DBK are sworn brothers, he finds Redson's overreactions to it funny but is secretly kinda hurt that Redson doesn't think of him as family anymore (He use to when he was a little kid but stopped seeing Wukong as family after he sealed DBK away. They've started to try and mend their relationship after the events of season 4, it's slow but it's progress)
- Sometimes the monkey's on FFM will come into his house through the windows at night to sleep with him for comfort
- Really bad with technology but pretends he's just too good for the internet so he can avoid using it without looking old

- Says his "S"'s really sharply
- If you ask him anything about himself he'll give you a different answer to the exact same question everytime (he thinks it makes him mysterious, it does not)

- If you say something stupid or weird he'll just stare judgingly until you take it back
- Actually lost his mind when he found out what blowing bubbles were
- Drinks tea with an ungodly amount of sugar
- Chronic eye pain + headaches. It's gotten significantly better over the years but.. yk, eye gouged out
- Has a deeply relaxing voice, strangely enough
- Has tried to compliment people before but it always ends up coming off as an insult
- Classical music or heavy rock, no in-between
- It is literally impossible to take a bad picture of him
- Puts his hair up in a bun whe he doesn't wanna deal with it
- Has patches of freeze burns from LBD, along his right side (mostly just his arm).

- Likes to bake sometimes and frequently exchanges recipes with Pigsy and DBK
- Like to watch the sunrise and sunset
- Hates being out in the sun too long, not having a shaded area nearby for an easy escape stresses him
- Will stare out the window while it rains, Mei once said he looked like he was pretending to be in a cringey early 2010 music video
- Hard of hearing, his six ears are very sensitive and all the fighting and screaming has definitely done some damage to them by now
- Follow up on the last HC, despite being hard of hearing he will either absolutely refuse to wear hearing aids, or will wear them (albeit begrudgingly) but cover them with glamor
- Septum and snake bite piercings he got during his emo phase
- Smells like grapes, don't ask
- Love language is quality time, he doesn't care to actually have a conversation, though, he's fine just sitting in comfortable silence
- Will use his shadow transport for the dumbest things when he's lazy, like teleporting the TV remote to him if it's on the other side of the couch, teleport a bag of chips from the pantry to him in his bedroom, etc
- Room is covered in scented candles
- Sandy has invited him over to work out some of his problems multiple times, he doesn't really care to open up though, he just goes for the cats (Sandy let's him)
- His hair is always soft and he refuses to tell anyone what he washes with, MK has asked multiple times and he gets a different, vague answer everytime

Jun Wu thrashed in his sleep, sheets twisting. Having been woken up by the shaking, Mei Nianqing searched for the source of the ruckus. Suddenly, Jun Wu bolted up and frantically looked around, both eyes and hands searching. Having seen him, Jun Wu scooted closer to Mei Nainqing, lanky arms embracing the priest. Mei Nianqing shuffled out of the embrace only to reach his, considerably, shorter arms around his husband. Hands combed through black silky hair, soft lips caressed Jun Wu's forehead. They lay embraced for a few minutes. Jun Wu mumbled, only audible to the other, “I thought you were gone, I threw you in the kiln”
Mei Nianqing reached his hands behind the former god’s neck, stroking soothingly at the back of Jun Wu's neck, “Don’t worry I am here, see, you can hold me.”
Smiling faintly, Jun Wu brought his hands to the fortune teller's side, and mumbled, “Yeah, yeah. You're here,”
Even quieter muttered into soft silver hair, “I never meant to hurt you”
Mei Nainqing twinkled, “I know you never meant to, and I know you will never do it again”
“Yes, never.”
Not many words were exchanged after that, the couple lay in comfortable silence. The honeyed fingers of sleep insistently pulled at their minds until they fell into a dreamless sleep.

Morning light blasted Mei Nianqing in the face, groaning, he rolled out of bed. Seeing Jun Wu already left, assuming the kitchen Mei Nianqing padded with sleep-softened feet to the cold kitchen floor. Smelling porridge, the priest smiled.
Walking into the kitchen was a different story, you see Jun Wu could cook but he never really measured. This morning meant enough congee to feed all of Wu Yong with some to spare. Sighing, Mei Nianqing started to berate, “What did I say about actually using the bowls?”
Protesting, Jun Wu started, “I can just eyeball it!”
“No, no you cannot”
Mei Nianqing mentally tallied as many recipes for leftover porridge, but there weren't many. Well, he knew what he was having for breakfast for the next week.

Whining, Mei Nianqing pleaded, “Just one game of cards, your highness!”
“I have already played 5 games, and you lost every one. Every. Single. One.” punctuated with a accusing finger jab in Mei Nianqing's general direction.
The priest pleaded, “But that doesn't stop them from being fun!”
Jun Wu groaned, “Fine, one more game. Only one. Not more, not less”
Cheering, Mei Nianqing shuffled and dealt the cards. They played many more card games that night. The god was not immune to the charms of the priest.

• Along with that she's going to try some new pumpkin recipes with you if you like pumpkin flavored things, if not then she's just going to try another flavor so you can both enjoy it! Cooking is another fun activity that she likes cuz it can turn out right or wrong but it's still fun in the end since it's with you!

I just had to go through hell during a family reunion because i hate togetherness /hj

LMK Characters at a Cookout Headcanons! (PLATONIC)(GN READER)
Sun Wukong - I feel like he'd have fun at a cookout as long as he knows a handful of people there. He'll stay with them for the most part and will be fine introducing himself to new people. If not, then he is going to stick to the edges of any crowd, take some food, and do his best to stay out of things. He can act calm all he wants but just know that he's screaming internally lmao. He's a little awkward as a whole but even more so if he somehow gets invited again. He might think it's a joke on him, but once you explain it's genuine he is RELIEVED.
Macaque - not a social butterfly, but will go if you're going. He's nice to whoever talks to him but ultimately he'll prefer to take a plate of food and find a quiet spot. If he knows more than one person there, he'll be less of a wallflower and more of a performer; he's excellent at small talk and a lot of people at the cookout probably end up admiring his charm. Most likely invited again but no one pressures him.
MK - oh this is perfect for him. He loves a chance to eat good food and socialize! MK's really good at meeting people and just generally being nice, and if it's a family cookout everyone's like "you should come back next time!" "Oh you're such a nice young man!" And basically he's part of the family now. He'll stick by you if you want him to, but if he hears someone talking about something interesting or something he likes, he may also gravitate towards them!
Redson - a little uptight about the whole thing, Red may panic and bring a dish of their own to the cookout to get on everyone's good side. But his mother taught him well in terms of social events, and you'd be lying if you said you weren't impressed at how easily Red can adapt to her environment. He's chatting it up with whoever approaches him and, similar to MK, will most likely be invited to the next one.
Mei - oh she's chilling! She's super happy you invited her, she loves these types of things! She'll start off super friendly, happy to introduce herself to people. But if she sees you uncomfortable with someone or if someone is rude to her, she'll switch it up and may be a little more feisty toward them. She'll try whatever foods there are even if she has no idea what it is. If something strikes her fancy she'll hunt the chef down and ask for the recipe. Also gets invited back!

星洲炒米粉 / Xing zhou chao mei fun (Singapore noodles)
This dish fries steamed noodles and assorted vegetables in a mildly spicy curry paste, made from a bespoke curry powder and a blend of fresh aromatics. The result is a crispy, chewy, complex, warming stir-fry with notes of turmeric, liquorice root, and cinnamon.
Though this dish is referred to as "Singapore noodles," vermicelli dishes common in Singapore do not include curry powder! These "Singapore" noodles in fact originated in Hong Kong 茶餐廳 (cha chaan teng; Western-influenced cafés), and gained popularity between the 1940s and 60s. They combine British influence (in the form of curry powder) with the rice noodles common in Chinese, Malay, and Indian cooking; the reference to Singapore is perhaps a nod to the cosmopolitan, "exotic" atmosphere of these cafés.
This is a vegan version of a dish that often also includes shrimp, char siu, or chicken. Instructions for a vegan version of the typical sliced fried egg topping are included.

Ingredients:
For the dish:
200g vermicelli rice noodles (bee hoon / mi fen; 米粉)
4 green onions, greens and whites separated
1/2 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
1 medium (50g) julienned red mild chili (such as aji dulce), or 1/4 medium red bell pepper
1 medium (50g) julienned green mild chili, or 1/4 medium green bell pepper
1 bunch yellow chives
Small handful bean sprouts
3-inch piece (40g) carrot, julienned
1 tsp table salt, or to taste
Large pinch MSG (optional)
Rice vermicelli (also known as bee hoon / bihun, mee hoon / mihun, or mi fen) are long, fine rice noodles. They should not be confused with semolina vermicelli. They may be purchased at an east or southeast Asian grocery store; Chinese, Vietnamese, or Thai rice vermicelli will all work. I used Hai Ca Vang rice vermicelli, which I like in this dish for how well they stand up to stir-frying, and the chewy bite they give to the final dish.
Yellow chives are simply chives that have less color because they are grown out of the sun. They may be found in a Chinese grocery store; if you can't get your hands on any, omit them or substitute more bean sprouts.
For the curry paste:
4 tsp curry powder Singapura, or to taste
3 cloves garlic
4 Thai shallots, or 1 Western shallot
1-inch chunk (10g) ginger
1/4 medium yellow onion
White of 1 stalk lemongrass (optional)
1 bay leaf (optional)
Some versions of Singapore noodles are flavored entirely with curry powder, or (if a spicier curry powder is being used) with a mix of curry powder and turmeric; home cooks tend to include less curry powder or paste than restaurants do. You could decrease the amount of curry powder down to about a teaspoon for a home cook version of this dish. If you aren't making your own, Singapore curry powder (咖哩粉) can be purchased online from specialty spice retailers, or from a Hong Kongese brand such as Koon Yick Wah Kee; you could also substitute another mild, sweet curry powder, such as Japanese curry powder (S&B is a popular brand).
You could skip prepping the aromatics as well by purchasing a jar of ready-made Chinese curry paste (咖哩醬) from a brand such as Koon Yick Wah Kee (whose blend consists of curry powder hydrated with white vinegar and soybean oil); Malaysian curry paste would be a good substitute. Some recipes make a quick homemade curry paste by combining curry powder with salt (1 tsp), sugar (1 tsp), oyster sauce (1 Tbsp), water (2 Tbsp), and sometimes chili sauce, and add this sauce to the noodles as they are fried. I prefer versions of the dish that add fresh aromatics, though—I think they round out the curry powder by providing a flavorful base for it. You can experiment until you get the flavor and texture you prefer.
For the egg:
1/4 cup (60mL) coconut milk, or water
1/2 tsp ground turmeric
1/4 - 1/3 tsp kala namak (black salt)
1/4 tsp ground white pepper (optional)
1/2 tsp Liaojiu (Chinese cooking wine)
Liaojiu will likely be labelled "Shaoxing wine" in English. For an alcohol-free version, use ume plum vinegar or apple cider vinegar. The wine is used to flavor and cut the 'egginess' of the eggs.
This recipe usually calls for eggs, liaojiu, and salt. The turmeric and white pepper add flavor and color; the kala namak provides an eggy taste.
Instructions:
1. Prepare the aromatics. Peel and chop the garlic; mince the onion and shallots; scrub and mince the ginger (there's no need to peel it). Divide the whites of the green onions from the greens, and mince the whites.
Pull away any tough outer leaves of lemongrass. Separate the yellow / white section from the green, and cut off the root end. Reserve the green to flavor soup stocks. Thinly slice the white of the lemongrass widthwise, then pass the knife through for another few minutes to mince very thoroughly.
For a "saucier" noodle dish, pulverize the aromatics in a mortar and pestle or a blender rather than mincing them.
2. Prepare the vegetables. Cut peppers into a thin julienne; julienne the carrots; thinly slice the onion. Cut the greens of green onions, bean sprouts, and chives into 1 1/2 or 2” pieces.
3. Cook the noodles. Soak noodles in just-boiled water for about 90 seconds, or until they break when pinched firmly. Depending on the thickness of your noodles, they may need as much as 2-3 minutes.
Drain the noodles, but don’t rinse them. Spread them out on a baking sheet and cover to allow to steam for 10 minutes. With oiled hands, gently pull apart and untangle the noodles. Cut them in a few places with kitchen scissors to make stir-frying easier.
4. Cook the egg garnish. Whisk all ingredients for the egg together in a small bowl. Heat a wok over medium heat for several minutes, then add in a couple teaspoons of oil and swirl to coat the surface of the wok. Pour ‘egg’ into the bottom of the wok, then lower heat to low and allow to cook until darkened and solidified on top. Flip and cook the other side on medium-high until browned in places. Remove from wok and thinly slice.
5. Cook the vegetables. Heat wok on high for several minutes. Add in a couple teaspoons of oil and swirl to coat. Fry sliced onions, agitating often, for about 30 seconds; add carrots and fry another 30 seconds. Add peppers and cook for another 20-30 seconds. Remove from wok.
Cook chives or bean sprouts for 30 seconds to a minute, until slightly wilted, and remove.
6. Make the curry paste. Add another couple teaspoons of oil to the wok. Fry the aromatics (whether minced or pulverized) and bay leaf, stirring often, until fragrant, about 2 minutes. Lower heat to low, then add the curry powder and stir. Immediately add another couple teaspoons of oil, or enough to create a bit of sauce (the amount will vary based on how much curry powder you've added).
If you're using pre-made curry paste, just fry it for 30 seconds or a minute until fragrant. If you're using a mix of vegetarian oyster sauce, water, salt, and sugar, skip this step.
7. Fry the noodles. Raise the heat to medium-high. Add the noodles and stir to coat evenly. Allow noodles to sit for a minute or two, then flip with chopsticks or tongs and allow to fry again. This will help the noodles to fry and brown.
Do this a few times until noodles are evenly toasted, 4-5 minutes. Add salt and MSG (or oyster sauce mixture) and stir to coat. Add in vegetables, egg, and green onions and cook for another minute until green onions are wilted.

A "Perfect" Vacation Ch 2
A Few Days Later...
The Wonder Stars and their friends were currently walking through Timeville, excited for Summer vacation to finally hit. The kids all had a buttload of plans for the week out of school, from Leo heading to the beach for the week, to Yuri going to travel out of town. "This summer vacation is gonna be AWESOME!!" Haoyu shouted in joy "I'm gonna Fly across the U.S in my Plane!" He said.
"That's awesome Haoyu! I'm going to visit some relatives." Emma said. "Maybe we'll see each other!" Mei said as she was looking over various dumpling recipes that she and her mom were going to try. "Yeah! But still, a WHOLE 3 months out of school, and nothing but sun and fun!!" Kaylo cheered. The kids giggled at her enthusiasm as they passed by a few shops.
As they passed by a TV Shop however, that's when a news bulletin was seen "...In other news, The Previously convicted Primrose Gaillot had escaped from Timeville Asylum. The authorities are currently searching for her whereabouts, but are having no such luck so far." A news anchor said. The kids couldn't believe what they were hearing. Madame Prim was FREE?! The same woman that had brainwashed hundreds of girls (including Yuri and Kaylo) and tried to do the same to them was out of her padded cell?
Yuri's heart began to race as she began to panic. If she was free what's to say that she wouldn't do the same thing to her again? After all, she and Kaylo were the last ones to have entered the school, and they were the ones that started the revolution against the school. What's to say that she didn't have a vendetta against her and Kaylo and would want to finish what she started?
Yuri's began to get short of breath "S-She's free! She's actually free! She's gonna get us! She's gonna brainwash us again! She's Probably gonna come in my sleep! And kidnap me! We're doomed! We're-" Yuri was stopped by Mei placing her hands on her shoulders "Yuri. It's going to be OK. Madame Prim isn't going to kidnap you in your sleep. The whole town knows that she's free, and she's probably long gone. And her precious school is pretty much wrecked and taken in by the town, so she can't stay there again." She said.
Yuri calmed down by her words, until the kids all heard a loud THUD. Looking down, they saw Kaylo was lying on the ground unconscious. "I guess she fainted over when she heard the news." Rebecca said as the kids looked over her fallen body. "Well, on the bright side, the Bruno manison isn't that far, we could just drag her back and tell her mom what happened." Trisha Jane said. The kids nodded as Mei and Haoyu grabbed her arms and dragged unconscious body back to the Bruno Mansion, all the while, Yuri was looking over her shoulder in fear of Madame Prim.
When the kids finally did make it to the Bruno Mansion, They were greeted by a very worried Thea Bruno "OH MY GOODNESS!! WHAT HAPPENED?!" She yelled out "Erm...Maybe we should get Kaylo inside first...she's heavy!" Haoyu said as he struggled under the weight of Kaylo's many hoop skirts and petticoats. "Come in. After Kaylo wakes up please tell me what's going on." She said, as the kids walked into the large and colorful manison, hoping to get the full story.

Nothing really changed for Cassidy and Zenyatta except for the fact that I found that Zenyatta was confirmed to know how to cook. As for Mei and Jack, in both of their segments of the cook book it actively says that Mei and Jack cooked the recipes often so I put them in S tier. As for the removal of Ana, Sojourn and Brig, with Sojourn she can still cook but I don't think she'd want to or have the time too, Ana canonically can't cook but she does know some recipes, with Brig I only think she'd learn how to cook small thing + her favorite meals.
Can Cook/Allowed to Cook -
Lucio and Roadhog didn't change because well, I came across nothing that indicated otherwise, same with Baptiste, and no one can tell me that Sojourn doesn't know how to cook. Moira and Widow on the other hand have information on them that they know how to cook from the cook book, and the fact that Widow lives alone. So they can cook.
Can cook some things -
Angela can mix things together, that's it, that's all she can cook that is edible, she is banned from serving anything other than muesli and soup cause that's literally all she can cook. Bastion's recipes indicate that he makes bird food for Ganymede so he can cook some things. Pharah and Ana know how to cook some special recipes and the bear minimum to keep themselves alive, other than that they can't cook. Same with Torb, he's too busy and Ingrid enjoys cooking so he never really learned anything other than his favorites. Same goes for Zarya and Brig.
Can't cook -
Hana has all her food made for her which indicates that she doesn't really know how to cook. The same goes for Winston, we also never see him really eat anything other than peanut butter and bananas. The only food Sombra can cook well is molletes and I will die on this hill, other than that she get take out or food from the bakery. Orisa is learning to cook but is still struggling, she'll be able to cook one day, but not today, the same goes for Echo (Cassidy and Efi are teaching them).
Doomfist is a rich kid, and unlike Widow he doesn't really live in a circumstance where he wouldn't have people cooking for him, so this man doesn't know how to cook.
Do I-
Do I need to explain Kiriko? With her just watch the beginning of her cinematic. She doesn't know how to cook.
Banned -
Junkrat, obvious why he's banned. Same with Junker Queen. And honestly the same for Wreckingball too.
Lena and Genji are banned because they either cause a food fight or they set fire to the kitchen. Genji has stopped setting fire to things but Cassidy has been hurt one too many times to take him off the ban list.
Reaper keeps stealing people's food instead of cooking his own, not only that but he also set fire to the Talon kitchen. He's basically on probation.
Just... Just look up the Symetra voiceline... it explains itself.
Reinhardt can cook but he breaks too much stuff in the Gibraltar kitchen for anyone to safely let him cook. Same with Sigma.
Cassidy let her cook once and it traumatized him. She's never getting of that ban list.
Lifeweaver kept tinkering with the kitchen equipment and nearly exploded the base... safe to say no one trusted him in the kitchen after that.
Ramattra hates humans, so he never learned how to cook, he also never really saw a point in cooking for others since most of the people he was close to didn't need to eat. The one time he did try and cook his anger got the better of him and he needed to clean the kitchen for two days... it was not a fun time.

this is silly and based on absolutely nothing but. terrible cook. he always follows recipes to the letter. it never turns out. he is endlessly distressed by this.
General opinion over said character:
man i knew he'd probably win my heart even though i really didn't like him in the first case, i just wasn't really expecting it to be this thorough of a victory for him. the minute they gave him trauma i knew it was over for me. i really love how willing he is to grow and change once he realizes what's happened to him, and how much he wants others to have that opportunity too. i'm also really fond of how he too is a silly little guy despite the Everything, and that he was weird even before the trauma, instead of being weird because of the trauma.

mei! i really loved when they were investigating together in bridge to the turnabout and i think they should do stuff like that more often. mei's hard-won begrudging respect for him and his pseudo-fearful respect for her is so fun to see play out. i want to put them in a room together and watch the shenanigans unfold.

ayame. it's just....no. regardless of any lingering feelings, i don't think it could ever work. naruhodou has changed too much, and ayame hurt him a lot, even if he's not willing to admit it. even if her love for him was genuine, she did still lie to and manipulate him for eight whole months, and that's not something that can just be fixed so easily, especially when naruhodou's feelings for her were essentially just puppy love. i dunno, maybe i'm too aro for it, but it just really bothers me. i don't even really care for their interactions at the end of bridge to the turnabout after the Reveal. stop that naruhodou!
A random headcanon:
he can fall asleep literally anywhere. he does not take advantage of this power. he is constantly running on the minimum sleep required to function.

soggy wet pathetic man who just keeps getting into situations and doesn't understand how. his distressed sprite is one of my favorites i giggle every time it happens. i think he should just keep being a disaster forever it's great actually
