Oscar

★ ⸻ COMPASSION: 7/10 It very much depends on the situation, but Oscar can be very sympathetic to someone's plight.

★ ⸻ BITTERNESS: 2/10 He is not a very bitter person. That's not to say he doesn't feel the emotion at times, but it is not something that is ever central to his life.

★ ⸻ HAPPINESS: 7/10 Even though he doesn't believe it is a necessity to life, he's a fairly happy guy. I would venture to say more of a content person, but happy nonetheless.

★ ⸻ POLITENESS: 9/10 His mama raised him right.

★ ⸻ CHIVALRY: 8/10 He is pretty chivalrous. He cares a lot for the opposite sex and is steadfast in the way he treats them. Any woman lucky enough to be called his will be treated like a queen.

★ ⸻ PRIDE: 9/10 His pride can be one of his downfalls at times. He has a very hard time getting over his pride and accepting that it should be knocked down a peg or two.

★ ⸻ HONESTY: 8/10 He is honest as much as possible, but there have been plenty of opportunities throughout his life that have made dishonesty essential. So while he prefers to be an open book, he is well versed in hiding things as necessary.

★ ⸻ BRAVERY: 9/10 Even if he was afraid of something, that wouldn't stop him from doing what needs to be done. Even if it means risking his own life.

★ ⸻ SENSE OF FAMILY: 9/10 Family is super important to Oscar. Despite his father's life path, he instilled in both Emily and Oscar how important it was to be a family and to stick together.

★ ⸻ ATTRACTIVENESS: 8/10 He doesn't view himself as that attractive - his scar riddled body and his inability to have children a big part of this belief - but he know what women think about him.

★ ⸻ AGILITY: 9/10 His years in the military kept him fit and agile and he's never lost it.

★ ⸻ SEX DRIVE: 7/10 He enjoys it and is fairly decent at it, but it isn't a high priority for him. His work keeps him busy and distracted most days.

Gage

★ ⸻ COMPASSION: 8/10 He is a borderline empath. He is super compassionate to the point of sometimes ignoring his own needs over others.

★ ⸻ BITTERNESS: 1/10 Gage has nothing to really be bitter over except the occasional disappointment when it comes to gigs.

★ ⸻ HAPPINESS: 8/10 He is generally happy with his life. While he does have the down moments, especially when in the midst of his addiction, he jumps back pretty quickly.

★ ⸻ POLITENESS: 6/10 Polite for the most part, but can sometimes come across as arrogant.

★ ⸻ CHIVALRY: 7-8/10 He is actually a gentleman when it comes to the women in his life - so long as they aren't one nighters or flings.

★ ⸻ HAPPINESS: 8/10 Silas is a care-free, happy-go-lucky guy and thoroughly enjoys his life.

★ ⸻ POLITENESS: 6/10 He is polite enough when he needs to be, but he can easily be a douche too.

★ ⸻ CHIVALRY: 8/10 He knows what women like and he isn't afraid to do what it takes to make them happy.

★ ⸻ PRIDE: 4-5/10 He isn't really a proud person, even though proud of what he's done with his life. Pride was largely shunned growing up, so he never really had a need for it.

★ ⸻ HONESTY: 8/10 He is honest, but can tell a fib from time to time to get what he wants.

★ ⸻ BRAVERY: 4/10 He is somehwhat of a pascifist, but can handle his own if need be - though he never goes looking for a fight or trouble, even if it finds him more often than not.

★ ⸻ RECKLESSNESS: 8/10 Silas acts before he thinks more often than not. Consequences of his actions usually don't play a part in his decision to do something until it's too late.

★ ⸻ AMBITION: 6/10 He is ambitious enough to keep going, but doesn't have any real goals in life.

★ ⸻ LOYALTY: 8/10 Given his upbringing, loyalty is a big deal for him and fully believes it goes both ways.

★ ⸻ LOVE: 9/10 Despite his outwardly appearance of a hoe, he is a hopeless romantic at heart.

★ ⸻ SENSE OF FAMILY: 7/10 While his upbringing made family super important, it wasn't exactly family as most viewed it - his parents part if a cult that viewed each member as family and anyone else as an outsider. Silas' parents are important to him, but he doesn't consider blood family. His family is very much chosen.

★ ⸻ ATTRACTIVENESS: 7/10 He knows women find him attractive. He is also aware part of his attractiveness has to do with his career as a musician, so it isn't too important to.him.

★ ⸻ AGILITY: 8/10 He is nimble and limber.

★ ⸻ SEX DRIVE: 9/10 He is a player in every sense of the word. He takes full advantage of the groupies and the benefits of being a rockstar when it comes to his bedroom habits - enjoying it without apology.

Ethan

★ ⸻ COMPASSION: 2/10 There are moments when he second guesses himself and feels, for lack of a better word, bad about things, but it is never enough to change his ways.

★ ⸻ BITTERNESS: 6-7/10 He is full of bitterness for a lot of things that have happened in his life - most of them being legitimate to feel bitter over.

★ ⸻ HAPPINESS: 3-4/10 Happiness is a useless emotion for him, but he knows how to fake it almost expertly. Only those who know him best, which are few and far between, can catch that he is putting on a show for others.

★ ⸻ POLITENESS: 5/10 As with happiness, he knows how to fake it until he makes it.

★ ⸻ CHIVALRY: 3/10 And that's being generous. While Ethan can be a gentleman at times, it is not a priority to him AT ALL. He sees the opposite sex as a toy and most women become his victim in the end, so he sees no need to genuinely be nice to them - unless he's baiting them to satisfy his desire to kill.

★ ⸻ PRIDE: 8/10 Ethan is very prideful of his feats in life - although most of them are known only to him otherwise he'd have been locked up and executed years ago.

★ ⸻ HONESTY: 3/10 He is a pathelogical liar and has no qualms about it. He could care less if he is honest. Honesty is a very hard thing for him to practice, seeing as he believes it makes him weak to acknowledge his inner emotions when he has them.

★ ⸻ BRAVERY: 9/10 Given his chosen extracurricular activities, he is surprisingly brave. Not much frightens him.

★ ⸻ RECKLESSNESS: 2/10 Ethan is methodical and rarely gets sloppy with anything in life. He can be meticulous even with the most mundane activity.

★ ⸻ AMBITION: 5/10 He has enough ambition to keep him going, but since his family is old money and he has a seemingly endless trustfund, he doesn't see a need for ambition.

★ ⸻ LOYALTY: 3/10 Ethan is loyal only to one person. Himself.

★ ⸻ LOVE: 7/10 While Ethan exerts an uncaring appearance, he desperately wants to be loved. He also wants feel love for another, even if he will never admit how thirsty he is for the connection.

★ ⸻ SENSE OF FAMILY: 1/10 He hates his family, but his siblings are the only ones he has ever remotely tried to become close to - even if it failed miserably.

He's Dead, Jim.

Okay so. Forewarning. This theory is probably one of my least canon-based ones. And yet...it would make sense sense, and it would provide an MO for certain things.

I was thinking about Natalie's post regarding the intricacies of blood splatters, especially as that post may pertain to a faked massacre in 1979 à la Fringe Subject 13...or an actual, physically committed massacre (as opposed to One's psionic killing).

Like...a couple things I've been struggling with are:

The "why" of it all re: a no-powers massacre. Why do that, if you've got a whole raft of kids, all of whom display useful talents? All that for one girl that you suspect might be stronger than the others?

If Brenner was yeeted, then what happened to One? Where's he in all this?

Now, we know we have a good deal of evidence that certain crucial parts of NINA are missing (for example: "I meant what I said when I called this place a prison", meanwhile One's never mentioned the lab being a prison before then) or spliced in from other versions of events, which brings me to something that's always fucked me up:

Why the hell does One look so distinctly normal after having the every loving fuck tortured out of him?

He goes from being so injured that he can't even stand up. He has to be dragged out on the floor...

With, it seems, a skull fracture bad enough to cause his face to swell and make him bleed fairly heavily from the ears...

(since the only other thing that can do that seems to be overusing powers, which doesn't seem likely given that he's still chipped at this point)

To this, supposedly within the next day-ish:

He looks startlingly normal. Tired and upset, yes (as usual, and understandably so), but unharmed.

In fact, shortly after that, both versions of this guy are not-concussed enough to play chess?

(see: the change in hairstyle)

Like. I know characters aren't real, but for reference: I smacked my head on the ice two years ago and got a moderately bad concussion from it. I was stuck in bed for 2+ weeks because I couldn't function (in like...multiple ways).

But somehow this guy is well enough to play chess and formulate an escape plan within a day or so? I don't buy it.

In fact, based on the visible symptoms and likely point of impact...

That injury puts him at risk of death:

And you'd probably go "Oh but James, One chats with El about Papa hurting him, though, so those two ought to be the same guy" to which I'd go "This guy? This guy shouldn't be able to do that". Regenerative healing or not, he should be knocked on his ass for a while (see: Two after the shock collar incident, which was arguably a less severe injury), especially with a device like Soteria in him inhibiting only Papa knows what.

Actually, given that we supposedly start NINA on Sept. 4th, 1979 and the massacre happens on Sept. 8th...I'd say, if we're being shown things even somewhat chronologically, he shouldn't come back at all. If he's not dead, then he should be down for the count.

And here comes the tentative theory bit:

I wonder if he doesn't come back. Can we say for certain what happened to this version of One? He's likely not the One playing chess or asking El if she wants a challenge. He clearly isn't even well enough to be standing anytime soon.

And so, in a sort-of backtrack-y topic-shift way, I want to address the scene that we know directly precedes the plinko/torture scene.

Now...I know I, personally, have always wondered why they kept One around for so long when he's practically useless to them. What if they were just waiting for the next One to pop up? Something about Sith always coming in pairs, master and apprentice...Brenner's got a fair bit of Palpatine coding, after all.

And Brenner knows One isn't loyal to him. Brenner knows One is making moves in silence or whatever. So, like I said (except in SW terms), how improbably would it be that he was just biding his time with One until he could find a new "apprentice" and discard him, someone to replace his first, failed "student"?

I have more to say about Brenner and Palpatine (and William Bell, for that matter), but that's a matter for another post (I can only fit so many pictures, and it would be a real tangent anyway).

All this to say:

With One proving himself disloyal and a threat to Brenner's authority, which Brenner is clearly shown to be aware of:

And with El having defeated Brenner's current most promising student:

Only to immediately follow up with this torture/injury scene...

I think there's a fair chance that this version of One may have died or been killed.

Which would, then, be sufficient motivation to prompt a massacre scenario to both paint Brenner in a trustworthy light/re-center El's loyalty and get El to step into her full powers/take One's place as Brenner's most powerful test subject, much akin to Sith apprenticeship turnover.

This would solve not only the question of why this type of scenario might happen, but also the question of where One, in this version, might have gone.

Fallout 4 Companions as Miis

I attempted to transform the companions into Mii characters. I did by best to make sure they all looked different while making sure to stay as true to their original designs as much as possible.

Let me know what you think.

MacCready: I really love his face, the little squiggly smile I gave him is adorable for some reason. Little rat guy, precious.

Piper: The first time I made her she looked too timid and generic. So I made sure to put some more reporters determination in her face during the second try.

Deacon: Smooth spy egg who was the easiest and fastest. If you remove the glasses he looks like One Punch Man lol.

Danse: His mouth would not cooperate with me. It kept moving in the two photos until I made one higher than the other between screenshots.

X6-88: I tried to make him as intimidating as possible, and I think I got it pretty good. Imagine boxing against him in Wii sports or putting him up against the famous Matt.

Curie: I wanted to give her bright eyes filled with optimism and a huge smile cause she’s happy to see you. :)

Cait: Honestly, I really like her hair here I feel like it fits her perfectly. She has a little smirk and a happier look because I’m tired of her being angry all the time. Let the woman have some peace!!!

Preston: I wanted to make him look very friendly but at the same time if I tweaked his mouth and eyebrows he could have a mean face for fighting raiders.

Old Longfellow: All the hair they had felt too young and crisp. He’s a crusty shaggy old man, I tried my best with what I had.

Gage: I am not a Gage person at all, I barely travel with him and he gets killed every playthrough. But I still tried my best cause I know some people like him. He’s wearing orange because it’s a prison uniform.

Jasmine: I made her so smol and squishable! She’s so freaking cute! LOOK AT HER LITTLE FACE!!! I just wanna scoop her up and swing her around but she’ll probably maul me if I do.
