accident

June 6, 2021

Viola got into her car quickly trying to not get wet from the rain that was starting to come down. She waved once more at her friend who was waiting on her porch before she started the car and drove away.

Viola was humming tapping her fingers against her steering wheel to the music as she waited for the light to turn green, the rain was starting to come down and it look like it was pouring buckets outside.

The light turned green and she waited a second before starting to cross the street when she she saw in her left peripheral view bright headlights she turned her head just in time seeing a car coming flying towards her and smashing right into the side of her car.

Viola felt like everything just slowed down as suddenly the car was turning with her in, she felt the glass breaking hitting her, the air bags deploying, a weight against her side and just pain.

Her ears were ringing as the car smashed onto the ground landing onto its roof, Viola felt her eyes fluttering and black spots filling her vision and little wheezes leaving her mouth.

Viola thought she was dying and she had no clue how long she was there hanging from her seatbelt not being able to move.

Viola felt a hand touching her cheek and her eyes flutter opened seeing a woman before her eyes shutter closed and her head turned to her left.

The Hughes family were sitting in the living room all together watching a movie waiting for the youngest one to come home.

Ellen felt her phone buzzing and she furrowed her eyebrows seeing the unknown number but felt she needed to answer it, “Hello?”

“Is this Ellen Hughes?” A woman spoke on the other side sounding pitying, Ellen felt her stomach tightening in worry not liking this.

“It is.” Ellen comfimed, she now got the attention of the rest of the family as they paused the movie.

“I’m from the Michigan General Hospital and your daughter was just in accident and is in surgery right now.” The nurse’s voice seemed to just fade from Ellen’s ears as she gasped and her phone fell her hand, holding her hand to her mouth.

“El?” Jim asked worried having never seen his wife this distressed, Jim put a hand on her back.

“She.” Ellen tried to gasp out feeling the tears in her eyes and only heard her heart in her ears.

Jack, Luke and Quinn all looked incredibly worried seeing their mom so upset.

“Ellen.” Jim sternly spoke snapping Ellen out of her trance.

“Vio, she- she was in an accident.” Ellen emotionally choked out, her words put the room into a stunned silence.

“She’s in the hospital in surgery , we- we’ve got to go.” Ellen shook her head pushing back her emotions and standing up hurrying to put her shoes on and looked over seeing the four all frozen, “Boys!” Ellen snapped, making all four of them snap out of and rush up. Ellen grabbed the keys and hurried to the car hopping into the drivers seat and the rest got into the car.

Ellen held onto to the steering wheel tightly as she drove the drive that isn’t far but felt like it at the time.

Ellen pulled the car into the spot half off the line but didn’t even notice she jumped out of the car the other four quickly behind as they all rushed into the hospital, “Viola Hughes.” Ellen all but spit out as she got to front desk.

The nurse looked up seeing a family all looking anxious and she recognized the name having seen how bad she came in, “She is in surgery currently right now, and you can wait in the lobby in the surgery wing so when the surgery is done the doctor can fine you. She is stable right now.” The nurse spoke in a soft voice.

“What happened.” Jim cleared his throat resting a hand on his wife’s back.

“She was in a car accident, a drunk driver had ran through the red light and hit her.” The nurse looked at the family in sympathy, being able to tell the other three are siblings and see how they are all holding onto each other.

“You can go down that hall to the surgery wing.” The nurse gave them a soft smile pointing to the hallway. Ellen nodded and started walking down the hallway.

They got into the waiting room and all silently sat down, Jack’s leg was bouncing up and down anxiously, Quinn was zoned out looking at the wall, Luke was picking at his fingers in worry, Ellen was clenching her jaw trying not to break out in sobs and Jim was just looking at his shoes intently.

It could’ve of been a few minutes or days they couldn’t tell but the door opened and a doctor stepped out with a file, “Viola Hughes?” He called out looking at the waiting room.

“Yes.” Ellen quickly jumped up rushing over to the doctor, the rest of the family quickly following.

“Your daughter is stable and is on her way to recovery.” The doctor smiled reassuring the family seeing them all let out a sighs of relief.

“What are her injuries?” Jim questioned.

“She had a broken rib that had punctured her ribs and that’s why we rushed into surgery, a broken collarbone, her left elbow and wrist is broken and her right wrist is badly sprain and many cuts and bruises some that we needed to stitch.” The doctor grimly told them, “She will recover but it will be a long road and a lot of therapy.”

“Will she be able to play hockey again?” Jack spoke up looking desperately at the doctor hoping that she can or her heart will forever be broken.

“I’m not saying yes yet but i’m not saying no. She is experiencing incredible bad breaks and a sprain but she is young so healing from those injuries will be more likely for her.” The doctor told the family.

The doctor kindly smiled at the family and gestured to follow him, “Why don’t i take you to her, she will be awake soon.”

The doctor led them to another floor and towards her room, “Here you are, if you have any questioned there is button on her bed that will call the nurse.” The doctor sent one more smile before walking away.

Ellen walked in first and took a slight intake of break seeing her beautiful daughter in a hospital bed, Ellen slowly walked over and her hand was trembling as she reached up and gently pushed back her hair, Ellen frowned seeing the stitches at her hairline and under her chin, the little cuts littler across her face and the bruise that was already forming under her eye.

Jack took a deep breath looking away from his sister, Luke tighten his grip on Jack’s hand as he saw their little sister in a hospital bed. Quinn closed his eyes briefly thinking it was a bad dream seeing his baby sister looking so hurt. Jim looked away rubbing a hand over his jaw.

really well

Viola was sitting out on the dock waiting for the sun to start rising, she had a hot chai in a mug in between both of her hands and her favorite very large blankets draped around her.

Viola doesn’t love waking up early but she seems to always wake up early at the lake house to watch the sunrise.

Quinn held a coffee in his hands as he walked through the dewey grass and onto the dock and walked down to his baby sister and sat down next to her.

Viola knew who sat next to her and lifted her blanket up and wrapped it around Quinn, Quinn joins her most mornings she is out here and they always like to go on a run after.

Viola rested her head on her brother’s shoulder and enjoyed the peaceful silence only hearing the ripples of the lake and chirping of the morning birds and watching as the lake look like glass from the night.

“You wanna tell me about this boy.” Quinn soflty asked his baby sister, he’s seen her over the last few months seeing how happy she is on her phone and could hear through their shared wall the many Facetime’s she has with him.

No one besides Cole noticed it but Quinn saw how happy she was when they were watching the draft when a certain player was drafted and Quinn noticed he played on her team and had the same name as the name she gave them, and Quinn knew that was the boy who’s been making his baby sister giggly again.

Viola bit her lip and nodded slightly as she knew Quinn would never tease her in a way that makes her upset, “I met him my first day when i went to get a tour and to see my doctor for the first time.” Viola cleared her throat and brushed her finger over the ring of her mug.

“I wasn’t doing great with my injuries and um he just always kept popping up and making me laugh. Felt like he was the only person who wasn’t looking at me like glass.” Viola hated how much her family, friend and coaches kept looking at her like she was going to break, she understood their worry but it was frustrating the only who didn’t was Cole and then she met Maveric and he just treated her like normal.

“Does he treat you well?” Quinn frowned hating how much she was going through this last year and how he couldn’t be there more for her but he was glad she had found someone who made her laugh on the hard days.

“Really well.” Viola smiled brightly, they aren’t even together yet and he treats her like a princess.

“Are you guys together?” Quinn smiled and wrapped an arm around his shoulder giving her a squeeze.

“No, not yet.” Viola just shrugged she wasn’t worried, Maveric has been very honest about his feelings for her and she knows he likes her but they didn’t want to start a relationship before summer especially because it’s his draft year and he’s crazy busy all summer.

“We are going on a date when i get back.” Viola blushed slightly remembering how he asked to take her out on a date the other day when they were facetiming.

“I’m happy you’re happy Vio. I’m so proud of you.” Quinn kissed the top of her head and Viola beamed back always being slightly bashful from praise.

“Thank you Quinny.” Viola mumbled back.

the start

August 12, 2021

Viola had just recently moved to Montreal and was living with Cole, she had gotten her sling off for her broken collar bone, but still had a cast for her broken elbow and wrist and a brace on her other wrist.

Viola been down quite a bit since the accident, she couldn’t swim or go in the lake during the summer, going on the boat was to much vibrating on her injury’s, she wasn’t allowed to do any type of workouts, she could barely do anything herself with both arms being injured so she spent most of the last two months in bed.

Viola stayed at home at her parents house for most of the summer barely going to her brothers lake house, she’s been in a funk and it seems like most of her sunshine self was gone after the accident.

Viola had unpacked most of her stuff the last week into Cole’s apartment and getting use to not living with her parents or Luke anymore.

Viola put on a pair of plaid shorts and a black t-shirt, she groaned as she tried to brush her hair, she slid her feet into her sandals and walked into the living room seeing Cole on the couch on his phone after his morning practice. She walked in and Cole looked up and felt his face soften seeing her frustrated face and the hair brush in her hand, Cole smiled and held out his hand for the brush.

Viola handed it to him and sat down in front of him, “Do you want anything or just down?” Cole asked as he brushed through her hair, Ellen had taught Cole how to do some hairstyles for Viola.

“Just down, please.” Viola mumbled.

Cole hummed and finished brushing it out,“There you go.” Cole told her once he was finished, “Are you ready to go?” Cole asked as today was the first time she was gonna meet her team and then go over the plans with her physical therapy that she is starting soon.

Viola nodded and set her brush on the table and headed to the front door. Cole and Viola walked to the car and got in. Viola doesn’t like driving or being in the car much anymore.

Cole drove them carefully to the rink and he parked in one of the front spots, “You ready Vi?” Cole asked looking at her. Viola nodded and got out of the car.

They walked into the rink and walked to the ice seeing the team practicing on the ice, the coach was on the bench and he smiled at Viola as he saw her.

Sylvain the coach walked over to Viola and Cole, “Hello Viola it’s good to see you again.” He gently shook her hand being mindful of her brace. They had met at the draft and he could tell the accident affected her mentally just as physically.

Viola looked at the ice as the whistle blew and the players were heading off the ice and down the hallway towards the locker room.

Viola titled her head seeing a very tall player but turned back to her new coach.

Maveric saw two people talking to coach and he walked over to them.

“Ah Maveric, This is Viola!” Sylvain introduced the two, Maveric smiled bright at her and Viola nodded slightly, “Viola will hopefully be joining us soon.”

“Well i can’t wait.” Maveric beamed at her, Maveric thought she was absolutely beautiful.

Cole looked at Maveric already suspiciously as he recognizing the look Maveric already had towards Viola.

“Come on Viola let’s show you the rehab rooms.” Sylvain put a hand on her shoulder and started to walk away, “Maveric would you like to join?” Sylvain asked thinking it would he good for Viola to start to get to know some of her team and Maveric is easy to love.

“I would love too!” Maveric beamed and started walking with the three. Viola titled her head slightly as she could hear the accent that Maveric had.

“So this is rehab room, we can usally help for every type of injury.” Sylvain led them into a large room filled with different types of equipments and everything you could think of to help an injury, “And this is Dr. Anna, she’s our lead physical therapist and will mostly be the one helping you.”

Dr Anna looked barely a day over 20, she had really long hair that was ginger and a cheerful personality, “Hello you must be Viola.” She smiled at her.

Viola nodded as she stayed close to Cole the whole time for comfort and reassurance. Dr. Anna led Viola and Cole into her office away from Maveric and Sylvain.

“When is she going to be starting?” Cole questioned taking his job as a guardian for Viola very seriously especially since Ellen and Jim couldn’t be here for everything. He wanted to make sure Viola is okay.

“It’s been how long exactly from your accident?” Dr. Anna questioned wanting to make sure everything on the papers she was given was correct.

“Ten week.” Viola answered shifting uncomfortable at the mention of her accident.

“So you have had you sling off for four weeks and your second cast for two weeks already?” Dr. Anna confirmed, knowing that Viola had a cast for her elbow and wrist for eight weeks and then got another one.

Viola nodded.

“Okay, we will start this week with your movement with your collarbone and your sprained wrist, luckily those two injuries are on the same side so it will be easier and when those are stronger and getting back to normal hopefully that’s about the time you need to get your cast removed and your elbow and wrist will get a brace and we will slowly start working on that arm as well.” Dr. Anna told both of them, “I’m not gonna lie to you Viola it’s gonna be a tough time and there is gonna be days where you feel absolutely miserable but if you want to play again you have to push through all of that.” Dr. Anna seriously and encouraged Viola.

Viola nodded, she knew it was gonna be a long road but it will be worth it if she can ever play again.

June 7, 2021

The Hughes family was allowed to stay the night in Viola’s hospital room, the boys all curled up up onto the couch in her room and Jim and Ellen sat in the two chairs trying to sleep.

The sun was coming up and shinning through the window into the room, Viola groaned clenching her eyes shut. Ellen and Jim immediately got up hearing their daughter, Jim hit the nurse button. Ellen leaned close to her gently brushing her hand against Viola’s face, “Vio, Viola open your eyes my sweetheart.” Ellen softly spoke to her.

Viola flutter eyes open seeing her mother’s worried face and the celling of a hospital, “I’m alive?” Viola croaked out her throat extremely dry as she looked at her mother with confused eyes.

“Oh my darling.” Ellen felt tears in her eyes at thought that her daughter thought she was dead, “You are alive.” Ellen sternly told her.

Viola nodded slowly, “How bad?” Viola could feel the fuzziness of being on pain meds but she could feel tingling across her body in certain areas.

“Don’t worry about that right now Vee.” Quinn spoke softly walking to the other side of the bed he gently grabbed her hand, “We were worried.” Quinn leaned down gently whispering to his baby sister.

“I’m sorry.” Viola croaked out feeling bad she made her family worry, she gestured to her the cup of water and Jack immediately grabbed it handing it to his sister, Viola smiled softly at him before drinking many gulps of water.

“Ah! She is awake!” The doctor smiled as he walked in with the nurse, “It’s good to see you awake Ms. Hughes.” The doctor walked over to the end of the bed.

“Please just Viola.” Viola politely asked him, She doesn’t enjoy anyone calling her Ms. Hughes as that is her mother.

“Viola.” The doctor said with a smile and nod as he picked up her clip board, “Luckily for you, with the crash you had you are in pretty good shape. Unluckily you did still sustain quite a few injuries.” The doctor gravely told his patient.

Viola nodded, “Can i play hockey?” Viola looked at the doctor desperately and gripping Quinn’s hand tightly. Viola couldn’t imagine a life where she wasn’t allowed to play.

“I’m not saying you won’t be able to, but it will an extremely long road ahead for you to be able play again. With extensive rehab and physical therapy.”

Viola nodded looking sad but also determined, “I’ll do anything to get back on the ice.” Viola sternly spoke looking at the doctor.

The doctor smiled at her.

The doctor and nurse checked her vitals and her incision from her surgery before leaving the room letting the family be alone.

“Oh!” Luke face lite up with realization and he got up looking at the couch where he left it and he grabbed the thing and brought it to Viola, “Here i got from the gift shop.” Luke had to get some fresh air and be alone for a few minutes so he looked in the gift shop for Viola, he handed her the stuff animal, “It’s a moose, from Moose.” Luke smirked at his sister.

Viola let out a small fond laugh as she held the stuff animal, “Thank you Lukey.” She sent him a soft smile.

giggles

April 9, 2022

Viola had flew home a few days ago and spent a few days with her parents as Quinn and Jack came back the same day as her and Luke came home the day after.

They only lasted a few days before they headed to Quinn and Jack’s lake house, surprisingly it was pretty calm as only Cole and Trevor were there with them and there wasn’t anymore friends or teammates.

Everyone could tell Viola was attached to her phone since she got to Michigan which was definitely quite surprisingly as she usually is never using her phone if it’s not for music.

Quinn, Jack, Luke, Cole, Trevor and Viola had decided to have the first boat day of the year and had packed the boat up for a full day out on the water.

The unspoken rule at the lake house is that they don’t use their phones much out on the boat besides a few photos just trying to all relax but Viola was glued to her phone and she was just sitting in the sun typing away on her phone not even getting into the water.

Viola softly giggled as she shook her head and started texting back.

The boys were all out on the water and they decided to come back onto the boat for the some lunch.

“Little Vee! Who you texting?” Trevor called out cheekily and walked over leaning over and shaking his head splashing her with water droplets.

“No one.” Viola scowled shutting her phone off and wiping the water from her face.

“A boy.” Cole singsonged with a teasing smirk as he looked at her. His words made her brothers all turn to look at her

“No i’m not.” Viola quickly denied through gritted teeth glaring at Cole.

“Not a certain hockey player?” Cole teasingly asked with a giant smirk.

“Shut up!” Viola scowled groaning at him, she could feel the looks she was getting from her three brothers and could practically feel the amusement coming from Trevor.

“What?” Cole innocently shrugged.

“A boy!” Jack dramatically asked his hands moving around like crazy as he looked at his little sister.

“A friend.” Viola sternly told them and glared at Cole.

“That she goes on dates with.” Cole mischievously added, he knew that truthfully the people on the boat Viola wouldn’t mind them knowing. He knows that her brothers have all been sad as they felt Viola being distant the last year as she kinda blocked everyone out after her accident.

“They are not dates!” Viola squawked looking offended even though she could feel her cheeks blushing bright pink.

“Tell that to him.” Cole quipped back.

Quinn smiled bittersweet as he had never seen her this way because of boy and all the smiling and giggling at her phone the last few days makes sense. He knew she as had just the hardest year of her life yet and while he hated he couldn’t be there for her, Quinn is glad she met someone who obviously is making her quite happy.

“Come on tell us more.” Jack sat down next to Viola nudging her gently, he missed the times he saw his sister almost every day and now he lucky to see her once a month.

“He’s just a friend.” Viola repeated hating how her cheeks were burning but she did lean into Jack, resting her head on his shoulder.

“Do we get a name?” Luke prodded at his sister wanting to know more about this boy that is obviously effecting his baby sister.

“Maveric.” Viola quickly mumbled out, “Now no more questions.” Viola glared at her brothers and they reluctantly nodded and stopped asking questions not wanting to push her to much.

August 15, 2022

Viola had come back to Montreal a few weeks before Cole as school and her season was starting before his so she was home alone for a few weeks while Cole visited his family.

Viola was going to go on the date today that she has had planned with Maveric for almost a month now. They haven’t been able to see each other in almost five months.

Viola was zipping up her last knee high boot when she heard her doorbell ring, she looked at herself in the mirror once more, she was wearing a plaid skirt with a white sweater and black knee high boots. “Coming!” Viola called out as she grabbed her phone and put it into her purse and slipped her purse over her head.

Viola walked through the apartment and opened the door, she looked up into her favorite pair of eyes and smiled sweetly.

Maveric beamed back and quickly took a step forward picking her up into a tight hug and started spinning them around.

Viola squealed as he picked her up and started giggling once he spun them around, she had her arms wrapped tightly around his neck and buried her head in the crock of his neck.

Maveric chuckled loudly at her giggles but slowly stopped spinning them and gently set her feet back to the floor. He wanted to see her gorgeous face in person but she seemed content to hide in his neck.

“Giggles.” Maveric soflty cooed, feeling her warm cheeks on his neck and smiled softly loving how any nickname or pet name makes her melt for him, “Come on i want to see your gorgeous face.”

Viola blinked rapidly but reluctantly pulled away and looked up at him through her lashes, “Hi.” Viola soflty mumbled biting her lip.

“Hello Belle.” Maveric softly mumbled back and Viola tried not to fold at his extra strong accent when he speaks french.

Viola leaned up on her toes to be closer to his face even though she is quite tall he is still a whole foot taller than her. Her hands started fiddling with the nape of his neck.

Maveric watched her intently looking over her face multiple times wanting to make sure he didn’t miss any changes he couldn’t see over the phone.

“Are you going to kiss me now?” Viola teased him with a flirtatious smirk, remembering when they almost kissed at the end of last season.

“There is nothing i would like more.” Maveric lovingly mumbled leaning his head down closer to hers, he could only hear the sound of his heartbeat in his ear and his nose was filled with her perfume she always wears.

Viola smiled wider making her dimples come out and Maveric gently brought his hands up from her waist to her face and gently cupped her face. His thumb gently caressed her dimple and then her cheekbone before he eventually pulled her even closer making their noses gently bump against each other.

Viola kept her eyes flickering between his lips and eyes before she leaned forward and pressed her lips to his softly but definitely desperately.

They both let out identical sighs of reliefs as their lips finally touched. Viola’s hands moved from the bottom of his neck to through out his hair, running through his curls.

Maveric brought one of his hands to the back of her neck gently pulling her closer as his other hand rested on her lower back.

Viola gently pulled away but stayed close enough her nose was still touching his, “Will you be my boyfriend now Mav?” Viola sweetly smiled batting her eyelashes up at him, flirting with him.

“As long as you want me Ma Belle.” Maveric softly promised leaning back down and pressing multiple kisses to her dimples making her giggle and squeal trying to move away but Maveric held her there.

“Mav!” Viola giggled and Maveric smiled and kissed her cheek once more before reluctantly stopping.

“Now i believe i promised your date.” Maveric reluctantly stepped back but still held out his hand for her and Viola smiled happily grabbing his hand intertwining it with hers.

Viola locked the front door and they walked down the hallway and into the elevator, Maveric hit the lobby button before standing back next to Viola and pressed a soft kiss to her head. Viola made a hall sound and leaned her head on his arm and closing her eyes contently as the elevator started the long ride down to the bottom floor.

Finally the elevator opened and Maveric and Viola walked out and walked through the front lobby to the parking outside where Maveric left his car.

Maveric led them to his car and he unlocked his car and opened the passenger seat for her letting Viola hop in, he leaned over pressing a soft kiss to her lips before sadly stepping back and closing the door.

Maveric walked around the car and walked to the back door and opened it and grabbed something before shutting the door and opening the drivers door and hopping in, he pulled out a bouquet of sunflowers, Viola’s favorite flower.

“For you giggles.” Maveric soflty spoke handing the bouquet to her, Viola smiled softly feeling extremely touched because no one has ever gotten her a bouquet of her favorite flowers, sure when she was younger after a hockey game once or twice she got flowers from her family but never just because and sunflowers.

“Thank you.” Viola softly beamed at her now boyfriend and leaned over pressing a gentle kiss to his cheek.

“Always.” Maveric winked at with a soft smile and gently grabbed her hand pressing a kiss to the back of it before intertwining their hands and resting them on her thigh, “Now i believe i owe you a date?”

Viola beamed and nodded happily back.

cleared

January 14, 2022

Viola smiled widely as she walked out of her physical therapy appointment, she was fully cleared to start practicing with the team and by next week she should be allowed to play in the game, she giggled to herself feeling the happiness she hasn’t felt since before her accident.

Viola didn’t notice someone was walking in front of her and she walked right into them and got bumped back and started to fall backwards when an arm wrapped around her waist catching and stopping her from falling.

Viola let out a shocked breath and looked up seeing Maveric looking worried towards her, “Thank you.” Viola gave him a smile.

Maveric blushed slightly being so close to her, “Of Course Viola.” Maveric simply answered with a smile helping her stand back up.

Viola blushed slightly hearing her name with his accent and truthfully she was so focused on her injuries and recovering she never really thought about Maveric but she realized she was wrong not to see how adorable he was.

“Hey! No more brace!” Maveric smiled widely seeing that she has no more braces on any of her past injuries.

“Nope, and i get to join practice with everyone today.” Viola giggled happily as she told Maveric as they started to walk together.

“Really? That’s Great!” Maveric exclaimed looking extremely happy for her, he could tell she just wanted to be on the ice the last few months and get to play hockey again.

“Yeah.” Viola nodded smiling back.

Maveric watched with a smile the entire practice seeing Viola look so natural on the ice and he couldn’t wait until they could play together for the first time.

Viola felt a good kind of tired once practice was over, she let out a happy breath and ran a hand through her freshly washed hair. She was nervous to her back on the ice fully as she was afraid she suddenly wouldn’t be able to play or be rusty and she knew it was silly to be anxious over it but she was.

Viola walked out of the locker room waving to her teammates and as she was untangling her headphones about to plug them in she heard a familiar accent.

“Viola!” Maveric called out as he ran out of the locker room and after her, he let out a breath as he caught up to her, “Hey!” Maveric sheepishly spoke.

“Hello.” Viola smiled soflty titling her head to the him giving him her attention.

“Are you busy?” Maveric nervously asked, Viola shook her head no, “Would you like to walk to a close coffee shop? Thought we could get to know each other more?” Maveric nervously but softly offered.

Viola nodded she knew she needed to get closer with her team as she had been distant since she joined and all of her attention was on getting better.

“I’d like that.” Viola gave him a soft smile making him beam back, “Just let me text Cole and we can go.” Viola quickly pulled out her phone and texted Cole she would walk home before she slipped her phone into her pocket and Maveric and Viola started walking out.

introducing viola

Viola Hughes the only sister of the Hughes family and the youngest. She’s the perfect blend of her three siblings, Quinn’s compassion, Jack’s sass and Luke’s nonchalant personality. She’s easily the boys favorite sibling but she loves all of them completely equally.

Ellen had found out she was pregnant when they were looking at houses in Toronto for their move so they waited until the baby was born to move, Viola was born in Boston but within a month of being born they moved to Toronto for the next twelve years.

Viola grew up with being around the ice and watching her whole family always be on the ice so it was natural that she grew to love the sport just as much as her family does.

In the beginning of June, 2021 had her license for about a month and she was driving home from a friends house at night and a storm came out a nowhere and she was hit on the side of her car by a drunk driver making her flip multiple times, she was severely injured and rushed to the emergency room and her family came rushing in.

She had a broken rib that punctured her lungs and had to have a surgery, a broken collarbone, left elbow and wrist broken and a sprained right wrist and she had many cuts and scraps across her body.

They didn’t even know if she would be able to play hockey again. It devastated Viola especially because days before she was drafted first overall in the QMJHL, she did end up being able to play again but she missed half of the season, she was out for six months.

Out of all of her brothers friends she has always been closer to Cole, Viola met Cole when she was only six and grew up thinking of him as another brother. Cole was really exicted when she got drafted to the Drummondville Voltigeurs because the team is very close to where he lives and he offered for her to live with him for the two years.

When Viola moved in with Cole the start of first season with the Drummondville Voltigeurs she was still recovering from her accident and was just cleared to start physical therapy so Cole was the one who went to every appointment with her and encouraged her when she was down and discouraged, the one who got her icecream to make her days better and the one who held her on her hard days all well getting use to being in the NHL.

Viola had met Logan when she was waiting for Luke to finish practice and they started talking becoming each others best friend, Logan was drafted to the Coyotes the year before her and they were both drafted third overall and they have their rookie year togetehr and become roommates on the road and share an apartment.

Viola met Maveric when she was in one of her darkest periods of her life and when Maveric became her friend he started making her light back up. Cole watched as Maveric made the old Viola come back.

Viola has met Clayton when he played with Quinn and she was very young, when she drafted to the coyotes Clayton was one of the first people to text her and congratulate her, he also offered his guest room to her anytime she needed it, she ended up living with him for her whole rookie year and he really took her under his wing and became a mentor to her.

winter break

December 12, 2021

Maveric was the last one to exit from the locker as they had just finished their last practice before the winter break and they come back in January, he paused as he saw Viola sitting on one of the benches in the front lobby with her headphones in.

Maveric has tried to talk to her as much as he could over the last few months but she’s mostly been in physical therapy, the weight room or on the ice for conditioning so they didn’t usually have the same schedule.

Maverick gently cleared his throat making Viola looked up and took one of her earbuds out, “Can i sit?” Maveric asked pointing to the spot next to her. Viola nodded. Maveric sat down next to her.

“Are you going home for break?” Maveric broke the silence with his question looking towards Viola.

Viola nodded, “Yeah i’m going home.” Viola was leaving in a few days and she was spending her break in Michigan with her parents and Luke, Quinn and Jack are coming out for Christmas.

“Are you?” Viola questioned back fiddling with her wired headphones, she is one in one wrist brace and almost completely healed from the accident meaning she should be able to start playing after the break and making Viola start to feel a lot better physically and emotionally.

“Yeah i’m leaving tomorrow.” Maverick perked up happily as Viola talked more to him. Viola nodded she knew she should trying to become close with her teammates instead of keeping them at arms length.

Cole pulled into the front of the building having just finished his practice, he looked towards the front door and saw Viola giggling with Maverick.

Cole smiled softly, He hasn’t seen her laugh like that since before the accident and it felt like an old part of her was coming back and he knew that part of it was because of Maverick.
