Mastermind M.C.
Pairing: Maven Calore x Reader
Warnings: Elara, that's it shes the warnings, other than that it's just not proof read and manipulation?
Au where Maven isn’t forced to be betrothed to Mare idk ignore the plot of the books for this Word Count: 1.8k
The moment Maven Calore laid eyes on Y/n Tyros he knew he wanted her all for himself. He knew he would do anything for the girl. So he began his scheming, he was vastly different from his mother in many ways. But his scheming to get what he wanted was just like her.
As a child, Maven had no friends. All he had was his mother who had forced him to walk before his tiny body was ready to do so. At one point he had a brother whom he loved, but soon enough his mother had erased all love he may have felt for his brother and father.
So he did what any little boy did, he learned all his mothers tricks for manipulating others and getting what he wanted.
The day where Y/n and Maven truly met was a ball, held for one reason or another. Neither seemed to know nor care. While Cal was being asked to dance by every Lady in the court, Maven danced with one girl the entire night.
From the moment their hands touched, the stars had aligned. The simple touch had lit a fuse of chain reactions. The pair danced for hours before they decided to sneak out of the ballroom.
“Where are we going?” Y/n asked, as Maven pulled her along.
“You’ll see.” Maven said and smiled at the girl.
For a moment all that could be heard in the corridor of the palace was the click of their shoes and small laughs. Soon enough Maven had taken Y/n outside of the palace to a small garden, during the day it was bright and the colors of the plants and flowers shone in the sunlight. But in the light of the moonlight the colors were dull but nonetheless beautiful.
The pair sat down under a tree, neither worried about their dress wear getting dirt on them. Not even Y/n who was wearing an iridescent white gown that looked to change color as the light shone on it.
Y/n looked around, admiring the stars from where they sat while Maven admired Y/n. He took in her jawline, the slope of her nose, the way her eyelashes curled, and how her hair framed her face.
“You’re staring.” Y/n suddenly spoke, finally looking away from the sky to look at Maven who’s face heated up with embarrassment.
“How could I not admire someone as beautiful as you?” The younger prince asked a rhetorical question, and it was Y/n’s turn to blush.
“Shut up.” Was all Y/n was able to mutter before looking away from Maven’s blue eyes.
Maven just chuckled and the two sat in a comfortable silence.
A gust of wind made goosebumps appear on Y/n’s skin and made her shiver a little.
“Cold?” Maven asked, already knowing the answer.
“Only a little?” Y/n responded.
Maven wordlessly removed his jacket that was decorated with different metals or something, Y/n wasn’t really sure what any of them were, and wrapped his jacket around the girl's shoulders. Then he moved closer to her and wrapped an arm around her.Y/n just smiled up at him and laid her head on his shoulder. The two sat there in that position until Y/n fell asleep. Maven realized that there was no use in trying to wake her up, and assumed she would wake up on her own soon after.
Only he was wrong and both of them fell asleep.
Y/n woke up first, Maven was lying on his back and Y/n was lying on his chest. The pair were still on the ground and the sun had begun to rise.
“Oh fuck, oh fuck, Maven. Maven wake up.” Y/n gently shook Maven to wake him up, who thankfully woke up easily.
“Oh mother is going to have a field day with this one.” Maven muttered, running a hand through his hair.
The prince and lady quickly got up and brushed as much dirt off of themselves as possible. Maven wrapped his jacket around Y/n’s bare shoulders once more.
“People are going to talk.” Y/n pointed out, standing in front of the younger burner prince.
“People always talk.” Maven laughed.
“No I mean it, imagine if Lady Bolos heard about this one? Imagine the heart attack she’d have.” Y/n laughed at her own joke.
“The horrors, two people sleeping!” Maven clutched at his chest, as if having chest pains.
They walked back into the castle the same way they’d left the night before, only this time Maven walked Y/n to her room.
“Thank you.” Y/n said, gently leaning against the door.
“For what?” Maven asked, eyebrows furrowing.
“Everything.” Y/n shrugged and opened her door and closed it behind her.
The girl left Maven confused and wanting nothing more than to talk to her for hours more.
Weeks passed before the two saw each other again, but first the press had gotten wind of the two sleeping in the garden on the night of the ball.
Prince Maven Calore and Lady Y/n Tyros are rumored to have not slept in their beds the night of the ball.
It has been rumored that the young prince and lady slept in a closed off garden…
“Anything you have to say for yourself, Maven?” Elara’s voice sounded as though it were scolding, but that would mean she had to care about her son for her to scold him.
“We left the ball, your parties have become boring, mother. Y/n and I talked then fell asleep in the garden.” Maven picked up the paper his mother had been reading moments prior.
He scanned through the paper to see what the press had to say, there wasn’t much speculation other than that the two were a couple. Later that day he wrote a letter to Y/n.
Dear Y/n Tyros,
It seems as though we are the new hot couple of the Kingdom. I suppose you were right that people would talk, I do wonder if Lady Bolos has had a heart attack. But all of that aside, I want to see you again. You have plagued my mind, Y/n. When I wake up until I fall asleep you are all I find myself thinking about.
-Sincerely, Maven Calore
Y/n laughed at Maven’s dramatics, and blushed at the knowledge that he had been thinking about her.
Dear Maven Calore,
You have quite the way with words don’t you? You really know just how to make a girl swoon.
Jokes aside, mother is hosting a party next month on the seventh. If you happened to show I wouldn’t turn you away. -Y/n Tyros
For the next month there were many letters exchanged, many letters full of flirting, even more of the two just talking. It was to nobody’s surprise that Prince Maven showed up to the party that night. That night was the second most important night in Maven’s scheming, he already knew he had charmed the girl. Now all he had to do was make it seem effortless the way he loved her.
This night it was Y/n’s turn to tug Maven out onto a balcony, into the moonlight.
“We’ve got to stop meeting like this, darling.” Maven spoke with a teasing tone and smile.
“Whatever, we can go back in there if you insist.” Y/n turned to go inside, and Maven grabbed her wrist.
Y/n didn’t say anything and instead moved so she was holding Maven’s hands in her own. A blue flame began to lick at Y/n’s finger tips, she played with the flames with amusement. She always found fire so beautiful.
Maven was always astonished when she did this, and Y/n knew this. But nonetheless it always amazed him to see someone else hold his flame.
“How do you do that?” Maven whispered, cradling Y/n’s hands in his own as her fire danced around in her cupped palms.
“Do what?” Y/n asked, looking up at Maven through hooded eyes.
The moonlight caught her face just right and enhanced her features just right. Maven was in awe of the girl standing before him. It didn’t take a mind reader to know that he was infatuated with the mimic.
“Make everything so beautiful, even my own flame is dull compared to yours.” Maven muttered the last part, knowing she would hear anyway.
“Maven darling, I am mimicking your flame. There’s nothing more beautiful than you, nothing brighter than your flame. You may see yourself as the shadow, but you are the flame itself.” Y/n spoke softly, her own flame died away.
Y/n continued, “Where others seek out your brother or father, I’m only looking for you. The entire world could be on fire, and I would still somehow be looking for you Maven Calore.”
She took a step closer to the boy, desperately wanting to be closer even when there’s no room between the two.
“Do you understand what I’m trying to say Maven? I love you. And I completely understand if this was all some sort of game, but I need you to know that I truly love you. I love you, Maven.” Tears began to well in the young Lady’s eyes, threatening to spill.
He had done it, he had made her love him. Later he would pat himself on the back for being a mastermind, but for now all he could do was be infatuated with the girl in front of him. Maven was caught up in his own mind, the thoughts reeling in his brain.
“It’s okay Maven,” Y/n was kicking herself, she truly thought all the years of her trying to make the prince fall for her had worked. Tears lined her eyes and she desperately tried to keep them at bay long enough to leave Maven’s presence.
Seems as though she read him wrong, she began to pull her hands from his.
“Y/n, no. No I mean, I love you. I’ve been in love with you for months now. From the moment I saw you, I knew that I wanted for you to love me,” to make you love me.
The tears she had been holding in slipped from her eyes, and she laughed a pitiful laugh at her own demise. Maven wrapped his arms around the crying girl as she buried her head in his chest.
All his scheming had worked.

okay an. the fact that thomas died by maven hand also makes me want to chew on industrial-grade steel. like I barely go to thomaven's place however,,, the way thomas are mare are set up as maven's loves.... the one he lost and the one he'd do anything to keep.... like you simply cannot make mareven separate from thomaven. you would not have the obsessive tendencies and the general "omg what the fuck" of mareven if thomas didn't die. especially by mavens hands. and maven had to go back to whitefire and know that he did this. and obv he doesn't want to do it again but. amplified and made more messed up bc of elara.

slow burn // one
pairing: lucas samos x nymph!female!reader
summary of chapter: y/n osanos found about her engagement through the red servants' gossip. after months of trying to convince her uncle, lord osanos, to call it off, it's revealed that they have to move the wedding up.
content of chapter: anger, irritation, arguing, the older adults are like the worst people ever, use of y/n, arranged marriage, like one swear word, reader is looked down upon, reader is mean to lucas
word count: 1.9k
Y/N was to marry the Samos boy. There was nothing anyone, including Y/N herself, could do to stop it from happening. She had been trying for months since the news broke to her, news she only found out when she had overheard Red servants while passing by the kitchens late one night. When she had pressed them to find out how they had figured this news out, they were hesitant to tell her, never having seen the young woman so angry before. She wasn’t known for speaking harshly to the help despite most of the other Silver’s doing so. When they finally broke and spilled that it had come straight from the mouth of her uncle, Lord of the House Osanos, she had been speechless. She knew she had to stop it from happening.
“House Samos is full of brutes and maniacs,” she had tried to reason. This only made her parents and uncle angry, all of them becoming even angrier when Volo and his own family had walked in only seconds later, obviously having overheard her comment. He had sneered at her before walking past her, nearly knocking her down in his movements. Ptolemus and Evangeline, his children, seemed not to care too much about her thoughts. The eldest of Volo’s children had only smirked over to her, eyes shining like a cat chasing its prey, while Evangeline looked rather bored. It was Lucas, their cousin and the man she was supposed to marry, who seemed to be the odd one out, looking equally as annoyed as the nymph girl.
Y/N ignored them all and turned to leave the room, knowing whatever they were to speak about she had no say in anyways. It was when she reached for the door, hand resting on the doorknob to pull it open, when she nearly had a heart attack.
“The wedding has to be moved up.” Volo announced to the room. This was unexpected. Everything had been planned to happen within a set number of days. There would be a welcome party for guests two days before, a ladies’ tea and gentlemen’s social hour the day before, then the beautiful wedding. Lucas was to go with the royal family back to Archeon and his wife was to follow. Y/N was supposed to have at least a few more weeks to get used to the idea that she would have to spend the rest of her life tied to someone she didn’t even know.
“What?” She turned to the rest of the room. It didn’t look like Lucas was surprised by this, something that made her scowl. He obviously was given more information and say about his life than she was. He was slightly older than her, and it helped that he was a male in one of the High Houses. Everyone, sometimes including the younger Silvers, looked down on her or at the very least underestimated her. She wasn’t the best in training, having struggled to control her ability until an older age than most. She had excelled in Protocol, but the only person who was proud of that was Lady Blonos herself.
Volo, as usual, ignored Y/N. “It seems the King would prefer to keep the months following Queen’s Trial to be about the Prince and his betrothed. A wedding between two of the High Houses would be… ‘distracting’.” He finished his sentence with a look on his face that said he agreed. He probably did, seeing how everyone believed that his daughter would be the next queen of Norta. Lord Osanos huffed, seeing this change in plans as an inconvenience to his day.
“Fine.” He replied flatly, looking at his brother and sister-in-law. They looked slightly annoyed with the change in plans but knew no one could go above the King. They nodded, looked at each other, and her father spoke.
“Next week.”
----------
It was late. Y/N knew that. It had to be at least 1 AM, and everyone was asleep. Everyone except her and a few Red servants. She should be sleeping herself, but her mind was racing. She couldn’t help but think that this marriage was going to be the worst thing that could ever happen to her. Tossing and turning, somehow never finding a comfortable spot or position to sleep in, she was so frustrated that she could cry. But it was when she thought about running away for the fifth time that night that she decided some warm milk may help her sleep. She threw on her robe, tying it tight in an attempt to help soothe her in case she might run into someone on her way to the kitchens. Mindlessly walking through the halls, she kept her steps light and quiet. She passed guards, some she recognized and some she didn’t. Regardless of that, she nodded and smiled kindly to them all, even when most didn’t even acknowledge her.
Rounding a corner near one of the dining rooms, she looked up from her feet. It was a good thing she had, locking her eyes on a certain blonde guard who she was determined to stay away from until their wedding. Y/N stopped in her tracks, deciding she would take the longer route to the kitchens if it meant not having to walk past him. She turned quickly wanting to get out of that situation as quickly as she could. She would have gotten away too, if it hadn’t been for the table that was directly behind her. She ran right into it, her hip hitting the edge, both making the table move about an inch and what was sure to be a giant bruise right on her side. Her cheeks heated in embarrassment, knowing at least five guards had seen it happen.
“Y/N?” When she heard her name come from his mouth, she cringed. Facing him, she noticed his hand on the hilt of his dagger. She scoffed, narrowing her eyes. She didn't say a word to him yet when she started to walk away from the hall, she heard his footsteps following her. She sighed, walking faster. Of course, he caught up to her, his legs being longer and faster than hers. They fell in step together, no one saying a word for a few moments.
“Why aren’t you sleeping?” Lucas asked her with a soft voice. She knew he was trying to be kind to her, knew he was trying his best not to piss her off, but the question just made her angrier about their arrangement. She didn’t know why. He hadn’t directly done anything to her. Maybe it was just the circumstances, but the only thing she felt towards him was resentment.
“I can’t.” She answered quickly, voice just as quiet as her steps. Lucas waited for her to elaborate, but when Y/N hadn’t spoken again, he knew she wanted the subject dropped. Unfortunately, he didn’t.
“Why?” This time, Y/N glared at him. She crossed her arms over her stomach, manicured nails catching Lucas’ attention. He smiled slightly at the light peach color.
“You know why.” She bit back, balling her hands into fists. She could feel tears welling up in her eyes from the frustration. The last thing she wanted was for Lucas to see her cry so she angled her head away from him. Lucas’ heart broke at her answer. While he wasn’t necessarily thrilled with the whole situation, it wasn’t the worst thing, was it? Was the idea of marrying him really that horrible? He didn’t understand what he had done to make the sweetest girl had known hate him so much.
“I’m sorry.” He apologized, not just for the marriage, but for his family, for her family, for anything he had done to anger her. Instead of calming her, it did the opposite. Her eyes flared with irritation and she whipped her head to him. The tears had since fallen, any evidence of them having been wiped away by Y/N. Lucas leaned away when he saw the look on her face.
“For what? For having to marry me? For letting your family treat me the way they do? Or is it for the fact that you can’t even hear me crashing into a table without reaching for your weapons?” Y/N burst out, voice louder than before. She saw the doors to the kitchen just ahead, thankful that their time together would soon be over. Just as she went to reach for the door, Lucas’ hand fell onto her shoulder. They locked eyes, Y/N seeing that the softness in his eyes had been replaced by a burning fire of annoyance.
“You’ve got to be kidding me! You’re mad about that?” He was angry, only a bit. He couldn’t believe that the little moment in the hallway would really have stuck with her that much.
“Yeah, I am! You can’t even try to solve a problem without resorting to violence!” Her voice was getting louder and by that point a few Red servants had opened the kitchen doors a crack to see who was making such noise at that hour.
“It’s my job, Y/N. I have to protect the royal family, the kingdom of Norta! The Scarlet Guard is running around and I wasn’t sure if they had broken in.” He seethed back.
“Spare me the bullshit, Lucas.” She scoffed out. “You’re just like the rest of them. You’d rather kill first, ask questions later, if it makes your life easier.” Y/N pulled away from him, ignoring the way her arm felt colder without his touch. Lucas didn’t move. He couldn’t believe what she had said. He was kind, was he not? He still couldn’t figure out why she was acting so cold towards him, why she could be loving towards everyone else but couldn’t even find a way to act civil with him. After a moment of contemplation, he entered the kitchens.
Red servants milled about, preparing vegetables and meats to be cooked in the morning. They ducked their heads when he passed, acknowledging his rank as a Silver guard. He spotted Y/N in the corner, chatting with an older Red as she waited for milk to warm. She was smiling, talking kindly with the woman. After pouring the liquid into a cup, she bid the woman goodnight before exiting out a different set of doors. Lucas followed her, keeping himself a few steps behind in an attempt to keep her calm. It didn’t work.
“Don’t follow me.” She spoke over her shoulder, continuing to walk. As the walked, Lucas looked to the other guards in the halls. They raised their eyebrows to him, eyes full of amusement. They knew the two were betrothed to one another. They also knew that, for whatever reason, Y/N couldn’t stand the Samos male.
“I’m just making sure you make it back to your room safely, as I would for anyone else.” He told her.
“I’m not completely helpless. I can protect myself.”
“You’re not helpless.” Lucas echoed back. Y/N didn’t speak again after that, not knowing what to say to that.  It sounded as if he thought she was more than a little Nymph girl who had once cried when Instructor Arven told her she was weak.
They reached her door together, Lucas having caught up with her somewhere along the way. She stepped inside, eyes flitting to the ground so she didn’t have to look at him. As she closed the door, she heard one last thing from him.
“See you next week."

He will live‼️
-
Future AU Maven because denial is a real thing and I am in it 🙏 This is from a super fun AU I have in my head where Maven gets to live a full life, got the help he needed, and gets to be happy too :) This still follows all of the canon events, he just gets to live at the end :] because I say so
Tumblr media
Notes on drawing cuz I know my handwriting’s a mess:
Late 20’s (about 10 years after canon) / 5’11” (grew an inch) / less severe eye-bags <3 / scars from working / still somewhat formal-wear, but more relaxed

Here’s the post i mentioned a few days ago, i’m a bit more nervous about it than my others so pls don’t be harsh🙏
While I'm on the topic of religion, I think an au where everything is (mostly) the same but religion is present would be so cool for Cal and Maven!
Like I said, in this au religion is present in Norta, more specifically amongst Silvers. Reds are religious but not nearly as strongly as Silvers, it's not uncommon for Reds to not be religious. I don't have any concrete thoughts on what this religion entails (yet lol I'm thinking give me time) but there are multiple gods.
The Silvers in this au believe they were "chosen" by the Gods to save everyone from the apocalypse. They believe their blood is meant to serve as a visual indicator that they are closer to the Gods than they are to humans. This is how they maintain their superiority and power. It is unknown if these "Gods" actually exist or if they were created by people (I'm actually a bit split on this, like I said I'm thinking about it)
How does this relate to Cal and Maven? Well, in this au, Caesar Calore I claimed to have been chosen by the God's for his throne. He claimed that his power, from his ability, was because he was favored by the God's themselves. The Calore's feel that they were chosen by the God's to rule and they feel that they are above other Silver's.
Cal and Maven were both raised being told this, but Cal was raised being told he was born to be King. He was crafted by the Gods to sit the throne and rule. He felt this even deeper due to his natural prowess with his ability. Both Cal and Maven are extremely religious, their only difference is Cal feels embraced and empowered by the Gods whereas Maven feels rejected. Like he isn't good enough for their love.
In this au, Cal goes through an arc of feeling abandoned by the Gods whenever he loses his father and his throne to Maven. Everything that he believed growing up has been shattered in moments. If he was created for the throne, then why has it been taken from him? If he was created to be one of the closest mortals to the Gods, then why is he being held prisoner by those who he was meant to "save"?
On the other end, Maven is going through an arc of feeling embraced by the Gods. Suddenly, he has the throne. He has the love of Norta and he feels as if his strengths are being embraced and rewarded by the Gods. He feels that his suffering was meant to prepare him for the throne. (I could also go into the feelings of idolization towards Elara he may experience as she is what "created" him, both in the sense that she gave birth to him, she is his mother, but also in the sense that she warped him into who he is in the most literal sense. But I think that deserves its own post, as the religion itself needs more development).
I think Maven would go through feelings of ascension both in terms of ascending to the throne, but also ascending to "Godhood", or at least as close to "Godhood" a mortal can get. He started as a boy that felt rejected by everyone except his mother, to a boy who felt he was closer to the Gods than any other living person. This would also lead into how careless he becomes. I think his feelings of paranoia can still be present. instead of only being afraid of being further harmed, he's afraid of his mother's creation, and by extension the Gods creation, being altered (this once agains taps into his idolization of Elara). I would imagine Maven's "justification" for his feelings of obsession towards Mare would be something akin to "She is an exception to the rule the same as I."
I think Cal would be particularly affected by the existence of Newbloods. Not only do the people he was meant to save have abilities, but they have abilities that are either inherently more powerful that their Silver counterparts or are exclusive to Newbloods alone. I think this could be further pushed by an interaction with a Newblood equivalent of a Burner. Cal needs pre-existing flame to utilize his ability, a Newblood can create the flame.
I want to reiterate that Cal feels abandoned, so when he is offered his throne again he takes it. Not only does he feel he can fulfill his purpose of sitting the throne and "saving" his country from Maven, but he also feels as if he has been lifted back up into the favor of the Gods. I think this would be, in a sense, a relapse period. Over the course of the story up to this point he has been forced with facing the many flaws with his beliefs. He is spending a lot of time with Reds and Newbloods alike. He's seeing first hand that the gap he's been taught doesn't really exist. He's also falling in love with Mare, a Newblood. On top of that, he's watching as Maven essentially goes mad with his feelings of inherent superiority and "Godhood". He's seeing from an outside perspective how genuinely insane it is to base everything off of these supposed Gods. He's being forced to confront his own relationship with his religion and how he justifies the horrifying acts committed by Silver's and by himself with his religion. I think ultimately, after watching Maven descend into a religion fueled madness, he would be deterred from returning to that way of thinking.
This is all I have currently. I apologize if this post is more all over than usual. Like I said, I struggle with putting my aus into words😪. I enjoy stories where people feel either embraced or rejected by their God(s) so I wanted to write something on how it may effect these characters! Obvs in this au, Cal and Maven's characterization changes tremendously, but that's why it's an au!

i'm almost done rereading Glass Sword by Victoeia Aveyard, and I've just realized something about Cal that I didn't notice before.
Growing up, Cal was never my favorite. I favored Maven so much, maybe even a little too much. So, Cal was very annoying to me? I hated his every line and I was very irritated with every word he said and every action he took. But I was 13 at that time.
I am 17 years old now. And I've found a sense of maturity I didn't realize I had once discovering this.
Cal Calore is a burning flame. He is passionate and driven, with a kind heart, but he is indecisive, and this flaw drags him down.
I noticed just how often his trauma is overlooked. Cal lost everything. His mother, at a young age. His father. His brother. His friends. His kingdom. His home. His titles. The list goes on. He was taken from everything he knew and slammed down into an entire new world.
He wasn't even welcomed by the Reds. The first thing they did to Cal was lock him up alone when they reached Tuck.
And then when they met Nix, Nix was immediately taunting Cal for being "seduced by Mare into killing his father", but once Cal reveals the truth of what happened, they all fell silent.
No one. Not a single person, except probably Mare, has asked Cal if he was okay.
Cal lost everything. I mean literally everything. And not once in the whole book did we see him cry, break down, or fall apart.
That is a kind of strength I could never imagine.

How would it be if Maven was the eldest brother? I'm really curious 🤔. Imagine him being crown prince but people would probably like Cal more because of his strategic mind and charismatic personality. The thing that I'm wondering is, how would Maven's personality be? How would that affect his relationship with his parents?
Jon: *moves chair 2 inches to the left*
Good question, I will now dump my mind vomit on you but in a sorta sorted kind of way.
First of all, how would Maven be the older Calore and Cal being the younger Calore play out?
In this timeline, Tiberias VI married Elara after she was selected in the Queenstrial.
Their marriage is very formal and loveless, but they don't resent each other (yet.) A year later, Maven was born. He was described as, "A small, pale child with striking blue eyes and a small tuft of dark curls sprouting at the top of his head. His face scrutched up in anger, sqealing at the hands of the midwife. The little prince only silencing once the Queen held him against her breast. "
The birth of his son brought Tiberias VI with satisfaction and relief. In addition, he could finally be with the woman he longed desired, which was Coriane of House Jacos.
It was a surprise to most of the people in court of the King's choice of consort. As Coriane was a simple beauty from a small house.
Elara did not appear upset with his choice of lover as they already have a son and heir. Seeing her as a toy for her husband to use and be bored of soon.
Coriane and Elara were rarely seen attending the same event or speaking to each other casually. Which was enough proof that neither women were fond of each other.
In less than two years, Tiberias VI and Coriane's love bloomed into a baby boy, named Cal Jacos. "Cal was a large, fat baby with cheeks as plump as apples, eyes as bright as embers and a laughter that echoed warmly through his mother's heart. The jolly child was filled with energy, his hands reaching for his father's fingers, a pround smile spread across his face."
Maven and Cal's Childhood
Crown Prince, Maven Merandus Calore, was four years old when he first meet his half-brother, Cal Jacos, who was only two years old at that time.
It was an amusing site, seeing the younger Calore follow his older brother. His chubby hands outstretched, excitedly waiting for a hug.
The young prince, awkwardly held his baby brother's hand, lightly shaking it in greeting. The awkward gesture made the young Calore chuckle in glee, wrapping his short, chubby arms around his older brother.
In response, Maven patted his head, not knowing what else to do.
Maven and Cal's childhood dynamic is something you would compare to a Leader and Follower relationship. Maven likes talking and telling people what to do and Cal was an obedient child,so he does what his older brother say, cause it makes him happy and it makes Cal happy.
Maven plans a prank on one of his teachers, he then uses Cal to do the dirty work. Since Maven was the crown prince and Cal was an adorable toddler, they only got a light tap on their wrists or no reprecussion at all.
Their relationship was not perfect but they were content.
The First Crack
As time passes, each boy started to develop their own interest. Maven under the guidance of his mother, has shown great understanding in court politics and is an eloquent speaker. Earning endless praise from his teachers and other lords and ladies in court.
Cal, although baring only his mother's name and held no royal titles, was still given the same lessons and training as Maven. Elara was not pleased with her husband's decision. Wasting time and resources on her son's little servant. Her disapproval echoed on her son, who was annoyed at his father for doing so and felt jealous that his father is more involved with Cal's education.
Cal is a fast learner. Quickly pick up the day's lesson and eagerly studying for the next. If he finds a lesson being challenging for him. He would approach his mother, his Uncle Julian and his older brother Maven for help (Maven likes being asked for answers, it makes him feel smart, but sometimes he would slam the door at Cal).
The Cracks Widen
Years past, both boys started to take on more difficult lessons, as well as physical training. With each honing their specialized skill.
Maven with his sharp wit and clever words. Could neutralize disagreements in court and set terms that were mostly favorable to him.
Cal with his strategic mind combined with his physical strength earned him praise from the other Silver elites and a satisfied nod from their instructor.
Even Prince Maven, never earned one or even a raised brow from him.
One day, Rane Arven wanted to see which was the stronger Calore. Maven insulted to be paired with someone younger and less experienced. Cal was nervous but eager, to prove himself.
Their sparing commenced, Maven taken on the offensive, throwing fireballs at Cal, nearly burning his little brother's brows in the process. Cal in turn, dodged each one with calculated steps, each move got him closer and closer to Maven, til he corned his older brother and burned his shoulder.
Maven fell to his knees with pain, his burnt suit sticking to his skin, adding to the scorching pain.
"Healer!" Prince Maven yelled to anyone.
But no one moved, even their instructor. Even Cal.
"Send me a healer! Are you deaf, Arven?" Maven hissed at his instructor, gripping his arm, covered in burns and was starting to drip blood.
"Did your little brother broke your legs as well, my prince?" Rane asked flatly
Maven fell silent. His pale cheeks turning a bright silver, as his looked somewhere else. "No."
"Then you can walk yourself to the infirmary, your highness." Their instructor motioned his hand towards the exit.
Maven stood with unsteady legs.
"Maven." Cal called out to him, his voice a laced with guilt. "Let me-"
Cal's sentence cut shot, as Maven turned towards him. Blue eyes glaring through his black curls, mouth twisting in a bitter snarl. They stared at the each other for a moment. Then Maven walked away.
"Cal Jacos." Cal looked up to his instructor.
"Yes?" His voice unsure, not knowing what to expect.
Rane Arven's usual plain face decorated with a half-smirk.
"Well done." His voice echoing through the training room. The echoes reaching Maven's ear.
Through the Years
As the Calore boys grew into their strengths. So was the distance. They barely talk to each other. Maven finding ways to prevent his brother from approaching him. Surrounding himself with his crownies from house Arven, Merandus and Samos.
Even if it was only Maven and Cal, the older Calore did little to hide his annoyance. Making snide remarks about his name, his mother and his strange uncle.
Cal, although hurt from his older brother's words, still hoped that they would still get along.
The Front
Both Calores were sent to Corvium, where they see first hand the on-going war between Norta and the Lakelands.
Maven having not much interest in war strategy, struggled in the Choke. To add insult to injury, he watched as his little brother charmed most of the soldiers and military personels with his brilliance.
His time at the Choke only made tolerable with the presence of his new found friend. Thomas.
However, due to the explosion caused by a Lakelander assassin. Prince Maven had to travel back to Whitefire palace. The king and queen, worry for their heir's safety.
Which left Cal in the front. As he grew into a fine soldier and a vital part in Norta's military strength.
Cal Jacos was given titles and medals for his contributions, but a letter was handed to him by a high ranking general.
Coriane Jacos, his mother, was gone.
The Final Straw
Consort Coriane's mysterious death cause a strong ripple of grief to those who loved her and was loved by her.
Cal stayed in his bedchamber for hours on end. Barely talking.
On the other hand, Prince Maven although was not close to the late Consort, he still visited Cal in his room. So he could talk to him, console his little brother. He knew how it felt to lose someone dear to him and that kind of grief broke him.
After so many years, they were together again, even for a moment.
A few weeks after Coriane's burial. The King held a small banquet with his family and close advicers.
Cal was seated closer to his father than the standard protocal. Which puzzled Maven and alarmed Elara.
Tiberias Calore VI, in honor to his beloved consort. The love of his life, annouced Cal Jacos' legitimacy before the small court.
In the king's drunken grief, he unknowingly severed the string he had with his older son and heir. Causing a stain in Maven's competency as future king and a power struggle between brothers.
Start of Red Queen Timeline
Over a year, since Cal becoming a legitimate son of house Calore.
The bond between brother was nearly gone. Maven shown blatant dislike towards his little brother. When they are alone together. Maven never fails to point out Cal's flaws, how gullible he is and comparing him to a lap dog who was eager to please.
In public events, Maven would pretend to be a loving and caring brother. Who under the facade of a perfect older sibling, still manage to deliver backhanded remarks that only Cal and a few of Maven's crownies would understand.
Maven's cruel words, his mother's death and his father's expectations slowly took a toll on Cal's self-esteem. Even with Cal being half a head taller than Maven and larger in built. He still moved quietly and carefully around him. Keeping his mouth shut, as he fear that he might say or do something that he might regret.
However cold Maven was, Cal never stopped hoping that they will be brothers again.
As Maven took on the role of his father's unofficial adviser. His focus gearing towards ending the growing rebel group that was slowly becoming a nuisance to the crown. His father, still in his druken grief, only cared for the war between the Lakelanders and invested more on his little brother's plans.
While Maven was busy trying to reason with their father. Cal was busy, going out at night to see the small red villages and bumping into a curious looking girl with stealthy hands.
How the First Book would play Out in this Dynamic
After Mare's shocking entrance. Mare was presented to the royal family. Tiberias wanting her dead and any footage of her erased. While Elara reasoned that Mare might be of use to them in the long run. Which spared her for now.
Maven chimed in that Cal should wed her, since he was the reason she fell in the shield in the first place. Cal only looked away, embarassed. While Mare glared at Maven for his suggestion.
In a short period, the young Prince Cal, started to develop deep feelings for Mare.
Mare felt attraction towards him as well, but knows that he can't find out that she is with the Scarlet Guard.
Maven and Elara are aware of her being part of the Scarlet Guard. Not because Maven pretended to be her friend. Elara simply read her mind and wanted to gather as much information from Mare, about the scarlet guard and newbloods.
If we are still going for a Love Triangle
Maven annoyed with his fiancée, Evangeline Samos and his father still disregarding his advices.
Prince Maven decided to take it out on his little brother, who was clearly smitten with Mare.
Maven pretended to befriend Mare, in the hopes of making his brother jealous because "he was given everything and he didn't deserve any of it."
Mare at first was cautious, given he was the son and heir to the throne and dislikes him, for his obvious resentment towards Cal.
But Maven played the stressed older brother, whose achievements gets overshadowed by his younger brother.
Mare understood the feeling all too well and they bonded over that.
Maven, overtime, started to appreciate Mare's spontaneous nature and he likes how genuine Mare is around him. He starts to see why his brother is attracted to her.
Mare and Cal got along well, and you know for a fact that they would sneak around to dance.
Mare likes Cal, enough that it made each letter, each Scarlet Guard meeting more diffucult to seat through.
Once the Scarlet Guard attacked, Mare quickly snuck away and went into hiding. After the damage done, Maven finally convinced his father into getting rid of the Scarlet Guard.
Maven would command Cal in organizing a search and arrest of Mare Barrow and other Scarlet Guard members. As well as secretly searching for newbloods like her, to turn into weapons for war.
Cal would then track down Mare, with the hopes of convincing her to leave the Scarlet Guard and come back to him.
Mare, Farley, Shade and the other newbloods manage to go as far as breaking into Corros prison where Maven held the newbloods. (No Silver Elites since Maven is the rightful heir in this timeline.)
Mare and the others manage to free most of the newbloods. However, Shade gets killed by Ptolemus and Mare gets capture, as she try to hold off the Sentinels while the others escape.
The conflict between the Calore brother rises, as the other would disagree on how their prisoner will be treated. Cal would prefer "talking" her out of being a rebel and Maven would threaten her for more information while having "tense" moments with her, since he is still attracted to her.
Mare on the other had will be stubborn and only hope that she'll get rescued soon.

what do you think the calore brothers were like at the front (during the war)?
I imagine Cal was very much someone who was in the front lines giving orders while fighting. Look up the word 'Leader' and you get a picture of Cal armed, dangerous, and in a blaze against his opponents. He would get hurt and have a few, "lucky" moments when a helmet saves him from a bullet or he ducked from a spear at the right time, but overall, he was someone who ended fights on the battlefield and was able to live to tell the tale with scars to prove it. Being a general and a strategist, he also has numerous plans of attack and can figure out ways to lead his army to victory. His plans don't always work, but when they do, it's like watching a less drunk Jack Sparrow
Onto Maven, I'm iffy on how much experience he had on the battlefield because of how much Elara kept him away from it all, but I think he's more the person who helps with gathering intel and is able to help Cal formulate plans. When he does fight, he's not as skilled as Cal and he does have to fight harder to ensure he survives the fight, but he isn’t weak by any means. He can hild his own, but is harped on by the others for not being Cal, which rubs him the wrong way

slow burn, a series
pairing: lucas samos x nymph!female!reader
content: arranged marriage, slight enemies to lovers (more like she hates him, he tolerates her), Silver attitudes, death and violence (not described more than in the series), allusions to sex eventually, slow burn love, some language but not much, grief
summary: y/n osanos was always going to be betrothed to another from a high house, but she never imagined it would be to lucas samos, a son of one of the most cruel of the silver houses. though she is kind to almost everyone she encounters, she can't feel anything but irritation towards her future husband.
note: this series will slightly follow the book, but some things will be changed obviously. while i have physically read the first book once and listened to the whole series twice, there will be things that slip my mind or have changed to better fit the story. also, scrap out how lucas was described in the books. in this series, i had imagined him as a slightly brighter blonde lucas till for whatever reason. is it because they are both named lucas? possibly. but i don't care because this series isn't cannon anyways.

When You Are In Danger - Maven Calore
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fandom: Red Queen
Pairing: Redeemed!Maven x Reader
Tumblr media
Maven and you were something.
You did not know what, though.
However, he did know what you were to him.
You are the only person he thinks he could trust one day, the thought of you keeps him sane, your company makes him feel at ease, your kisses make him feel alive.
He likes to have you around
He tries to have you around.
He didn't try hard enough today, though. This were the consequences.
You were nowhere to be found and he had decided to go look for you himself with a couple of guards.
He knew people were angry. Trying to retaliate against anyone who had anything to do with him or his family.
And what he had feared was a reality. He was sure of it now.
The pain he felt in his stomach the moment he found your coat lying next to the river, in the middle of the forest, was stronger than anything he ever felt before.
It was completely soaked. Had they drowned you?
He could swear he was seeing red.
His legs kept moving forward, as if they were automated.
He was afraid of what he could find, but he was also furious.
And that was when he heard it. That voice he fell asleep to every night.
He had never ran this fast in his whole life.
Two guys were trying to hold you still while you kept screaming and trying to fight them off.
And then one of them took out a knife.
"If you touch her, you'll die."
You would recognize that voice anywhere, but the cold tone that he used was totally new.
Both men froze on the spot.
"Let her go. Now."
One of the guys looked at the other with pleading eyes. He wanted to get away from the shadow of the flame.
But the other one was hesitant, he looked at the young prince with hatred in his eyes.
Maven noticed this, and he created a huge flame to scare the guy off.
After long seconds, both men gave up and ran away from the prince as fast as they could.
Maven motioned his guards to go after them.
He rushed up to you and wrapped his own coat around your shoulders.
He didn't say one word as you both walked back to the palace. "Are you mad at me?," you asked.
He looked at you as if you were insane, with a glimpse of disgust. Then he kissed you. He kissed you with the passion of a drowning man, even a bit possessively.
"I was scared."
It might not sound like something too meaningful, but it was. He was never this open about how he felt.
This was a huge step on whatever you both had.
When you arrived to the palace, he made sure to light up the fireplace in his room and tend to your wounds; that comfortable silence embracing both of you.
You could finally undestand what you were now. You were two people who belonged together. There was no need to give it a name. That was more than enough.
