chapter four
i’ll tell you the truth but never goodbye
Tumblr media Tumblr media
a/n: i hope this chapter makes you cry 😂
tw: there’s a bit of angst, and definitely lots of fluff. y/n struggling with being a single mum. mason being a gorgeous mf. lily being the cutest human, lots of lily appreciation too.
3.100k words
It didn’t come as a surprise to see Jaz keeping her promise to support you as best as she could - you got daily FaceTime calls, texts, and Instagram DMs. You got post-ballet dinners and ice cream, the four of you becoming closer each day - Lily and Summer were inseparable now, and you had Jaz not getting tired of telling you she felt like you’d become the sister she never had.
Not being able to control where your thoughts went, your mind made you question a few times how it would’ve been having this extra support when you were pregnant, and you asked yourself if you’d ever stop being hunted by the countless what-ifs of yours and Lily’s life. You had to stop and take a deep breath and just force yourself to focus on all the wonderful things that were happening now, and how much you wanted them to still be this way when it was time to tell Mason, and everyone else.
Despite having Jaz reassure you that things would end up well, Mason was pretty much unknown territory to you, emotionally speaking - yes, you gave birth to his “mini-me”, but that was no guarantee that you were able to predict him. Not knowing what to expect should’ve made you stay as far away as possible from him, but after you had a text message from Jaz sharing the big news that Mason would be at the ballet recital, while you watched your daughter roll her eyes in the delight as she devoured the pancakes and strawberries on her plate, you decided to reply to that message he had sent you weeks ago.
What you didn’t expect was for him to reply within less than a minute.
“Mummy, are you okay?” Lily had her eyebrows frowned at you, she curiously scanned your probably pale face as your heart pounded against your chest. A simple nod was enough for her to focus back on the pancakes, but also give you occasional and quick glares as your shaky hands tightly held the phone.
You barely had any appetite left as you felt your stomach dropping when Mason texted that - so, he wanted to see you. It wasn’t time yet, at least, it didn’t feel like it. But should the ballet recital be the best place to meet him? Would you be able to act surprised and sustain casualty at that meeting that’d be sort of arranged by his sister?
So many questions and insecurity surrounded you whenever Mason was on your mind, and having to look into Lily’s hazel eyes, her smile, and everything else on her that was his copy only made it worse for you - it was nearly suffocating, and you just needed a mother and daughter moment to focus on anyone but Lilian.
“Peanut,” you poked her tummy, making her giggle. “Why don’t we have a girl's afternoon today, huh? Museum, whatever you want for lunch and we can wrap it with skincare and Moana!”
Lily stood on the chair - your instinct making you hold her arm - and made her little celebration dance, still chewing the pancake, her dark brown soft curls bouncing. That vision completely took your breath away, you often couldn’t believe such a precious girl was your daughter.
Not that all of your days weren’t already hers, but dedicating a whole day off to Lily was your favourite thing to do. When she was just a baby, you often imagined how these days would be, with your little best friend and soulmate, on coffee dates and nights where you’d light up a scented candle and read her a book. The way your voice soothed her was Lily’s favourite thing, combined with your smell. It made her feel safe like nothing could ever harm her. In her dreams, her daddy joined the two of you - she couldn’t see his face but could feel the warmth of his hand holding hers and his laugh was the best sound in the world. Lily wondered if she’d ever meet him, the only thing she knew and was happy about was the fact that she looked like him, as you’ve told her countless times.
Careful not to lose Lily from your sight as she walked three steps in front of you, her eyes not sure what she wanted to focus her attention on at the museum, your mind went back to Mason’s last words to you that morning. So, he wanted to apologise for the way he treated you. Part of you felt good about it, that he had finally recognised what a complete twat he had been, but the other part of you just thought how that made no difference now - it was in the past. Not buried, since your past with him had taken the most angelic human form, but it wouldn’t change things. It was all about the future now.
For lunch, Lily insisted on spaghetti, her all-time favourite food. You had to persuade her a bit to eat a bit of protein too because pasta would make her feel hungry again by the afternoon, and you knew how much she hated being hungry right before taking a nap - your persuasion included the word dessert, so not much time was wasted trying to convince her to accept some chicken with her pasta.
Your phone buzzed with a real-time picture of Jaz and Summer by the time you had just bought a gorgeous bouquet of yellow roses, Lily’s favourite. She insisted that a good girls’ night would only be complete if you had fresh roses, that she wanted to carry herself. You quickly snapped a picture of her and sent it to Jaz, asking why they’d have to grow up so fast and that her niece was insufferable.
“Can you please behave like a child and not like an adult, Lilian Maisie?” like a little kid, you pouted, suddenly emotional to see so much wit and wisdom in your tiny human.
Lily giggled, “Mummy!” she held your hand, placing a soft kiss against it and walking according to your pace. “Can we go home now?” You nodded, quickly fetching an Uber to drive you home.
By the time you got there, she was already heavily sleeping in your arms as you clumsily also carried your purse and the flowers, and tried to open the door without troubling her sleep - if it was up to you, you’d find a way for mums to have an extra pair of arms, they’d definitely be useful in times like these.
You knew Lily wouldn’t sleep that much, so the sofa was where you put her before putting the roses in the water and getting rid of your coat. It was almost dark outside, so you also started to prepare the apartment for movie night. Your little girl woke up with a loud yawn that was followed by a wide smile when she noticed the blankets and pillows on the floor, some candies in a bowl, and fruits too, which were her favourite snacks.
“Matching pyjamas?” you winked at her and giggled as Lily nodded repeatedly, stretching her arms at you so you’d carry her to the bedroom.
A few minutes later you were cuddling under the blankets and watching Moana for the millionth time. You fell asleep shortly before the film ended and were quickly followed by Lily as she hummed an “I love you, mummy” and kissed the tip of your nose.
Despite not being the most comfortable place for your back to spend the night, there was no other place you’d rather be right now, holding your daughter's warm and small body - the smell of her strawberry shampoo and the pace of her calm breathing taking you to a place where no nightmares, no worries, would catch you in your sleep. You woke up in the middle of the night when she moved a bit and, after watching her sleep for a few minutes, finally turned off the TV and quickly texted Mason before going back to sleep.
When you woke up, there was a message from Jaz saying that they’d all go out for dinner after the ballet recital, and as hard as it was, you had to politely decline for you’d have a little celebration with your own family in a pre-Christmas party since a few members wouldn’t be joining at Foxwoods this year. And that you wouldn’t be able to be around Mason before telling him all the truth, which led to you telling her that he had reached you and you agreed to talk. She went from upset to hopeful in the blink of an eye.
As you prepared for the recital, you had to deal with an impatient and bossy Lily - combined with stress from work, that you had to forcefully turn into home office for the Holidays, the exhaustion that took over your body grew by the minute. It resulted in calling your mum for help, who showed up with your dad on her side by your door.
“You know she’d ask for me anyway, kid!” Your always cheerful father rubbed his hands together as he went straight for his granddaughter, who waited for him with her arms up, waiting to be spun around like a doll. You loved how your dad, a serious and famous lawyer, turned so soft whenever Lily was around - and now, how he’d cope with having to eventually “share” her with her other grandfather.
“Where do you need me to begin, amor?” Your mother’s heavy Colombian accent woke you up, and a sigh of relief parted your lips as you pulled her into a hug. “What is wrong, bebe? Tell your mamá,” Her hands softly stroked your back as you just closed your eyes and enjoyed being the daughter instead of being the mum.
“It’s nothing, I’m just exhausted. I thought that being one of the bosses would give me more free time but it’s just more work, and Lily is insufferable with this recital thing,” you sniffed. “I’m so glad it’s finally tomorrow.”
But you also weren’t, because it meant you’d see Mason after five years.
-
If anyone told you that your daughter’s ballet recital would be the place you’d almost certainly meet her father again, especially without him being the father of another kid there, you’d just roll your eyes and leave - as you stood in front of your closet, not sure about what to wear, your mind played tricks on you creating different scenarios on how that meeting would go. There was so much expectation from you, so much anxiety to see how Mason would react. He thought you’d meet for coffee sometime soon, not at a ballet recital where you were the mother of one of the kids.
Much to your relief, Willow arrived at your place right on time to save you from a breakdown over “what to wear to meet the father of my daughter after five years without looking like an exhausted mother, but also drop-dead gorgeous, and respectful”.
“Lord, that’s specific!” Willow screeched, not really helping you, in the end. “Why do you want to impress him anyway?”
“Willie, I know you’re smarter than this,” you replied as she just shrugged, still waiting for an answer. You got a positive reaction when you picked a knit burgundy dress, so you tried it on and what you saw in the mirror made you satisfied. “The next time I see him it’ll be to tell him the truth, so he needs a good first second impression.”
“His first impression of you was good enough,” she teased, watching your cheeks blush as she helped to remove the dress tag. “But you’re wearing a brand new dress for him tonight, so I’m sure the second impression will be just as good.”
“Stop it, silly. You know it’s not like this, and he doesn’t know it’s a new dress.”
Willow kept teasing you with her glares and smirks as the five of you drove to the small theatre rented for the night by the ballet studio, it was already a bit crowded when you got there and you rushed to take Lily to the backstage, where all her ballet friends greeted her in excitement. It truly was the cutest thing in the world, those little humans in their tutus, giggling and chatting like they were grown-ups.
With a quick and wet kiss on your daughter’s cheek - that made her adorably embarrassed - and a hug on Summer, you told the girls how wonderful they were and left to find your family. You quickly spotted Willow and Jaz laughing about something that made you curious, and although you were happy to see Jasmine, you also hoped it’d take a little longer to meet her and, potentially, the rest of her family. And Mason, to be more specific.
“He’s not here yet,” like she could read your mind, Jaz’s words caused you to sigh in relief. “You look gorgeous, by the way!”
Smiling at her, you softly stroked her bump. “You too, pretty mumma.”
As the lights dimmed down, announcing that the recital would begin soon, you and Willow parted ways from Jaz to meet your family. Your dad held your hand and gently squeezed it, his eyes already sparkling with tears - the truth was you couldn’t have done it without your parents, but your dad was something else. It was expected that being showered with affection would be something you’d get from your mum, who was a Latina, but you got it all from your dad because, according to him, you were the result of how much he adored your mum and Lily was an extension of that. His legacy, as he’d say. He never questioned your choices, the way you raised your daughter, nor why you never talked about who Lily’s father was. The respect your parents had for you was overwhelming, and that’s why you’d tell the whole truth tonight as soon as Lily was peacefully asleep.
When the five-year-olds act began, you were the one ready to let some tears roll down your cheeks. There she was, your Lilian Maisie, as beautiful as ever on her first ballet performance - something you never truly expected, since she had always been the adventurous type of kid. But you watched her balance it so perfectly that you often questioned if she was just five years old, and also how she’d be as a grown woman. As she danced, you had a clear vision of Lily in her early twenties. She was tall, her hair was a bit darker now but the soft curls were still there and so was the natural flush on her cheeks. She was beautiful and finally looked a bit more like you, but Mason’s smile was still there. She was kind, full of hope, funny, gracious and so smart. She was loved by everyone around her and made their lives better by simply existing.
When her act ended, you proudly stood up and clapped your hands as if your life relied on it. Her eyes scanned the audience, looking for you, and when she finally found you her face lit up and that smile you loved so much was there, making your heart melt. “I love you,” you mumbled, and she just winked at you.
Gosh, there was no way Mason wouldn’t love this girl to the point his heart would nearly explode. You wanted him to have it too.
Excusing yourself as the older girls got on stage, you went to the bathroom to fix your makeup. As you looked at yourself in the mirror, you searched for your phone and, with a courage you hadn’t felt in the longest time, you typed a quick message to Mason asking if he’d be willing to meet the next day, in the afternoon.
What you didn’t expect was to find him right outside, holding his phone with a wide smile on his lips.
Mason Mount looked as gorgeous as he’d ever been - you could smell his cologne even if you were at least ten steps away from him. Wearing black jeans, and a Dior sweater that made him look breathtakingly gorgeous, Mason ended the distance between you as you felt your heart beating faster each second. He was still holding his phone when he stopped in front of you.
“I literally just texted you back saying yes,” he ran his fingers through his hair and that was as sexy as you remembered. Mason had a beard now, and although he was still young, the wrinkles on the corners of his eyes were more evident now. “You’re the last person I thought I’d meet here.”
You nodded, forcing your brain to put some words together. “You too.” Lie. But you had to make it look like it was just a coincidence.
“You look incredible, Y/n,” Mason said under his breath, his eyes shamelessly scanning your outfit. That same pair of eyes was your favourite thing to look at every morning. Now you knew what Willow meant when she said that Lily and Mason were identical - how could he not notice when they met? “There’s so much I wanna say to you,” he continued.
“Save it for tomorrow.” You interrupted, not wanting to sound rude, and Mason nodded in agreement.
“Can I pick you up around 3?”
“I think we should meet there.” You said, thinking of how suffocating and awkward it’d be being inside a car with him after all these years. “There’s a nice place I usually go with my dau-,” you coughed, watching his brows frown. “With my best friend. I’ll text you the address and we’ll meet there.”
Then, all of a sudden, Mason pulled you into a hug. His warmth against your body melted your heart, and you could feel how his breath deepened as his arms tightened around your figure. “I’ll meet you there, so I can decently apologise for being a complete idiot to someone incredible like you.”
His words were all you needed to know for sure that this wouldn’t be easy.
Was he being genuine, or was he just trying to get into your pants like he did back then? Either way, things were immensely different now, for this wasn’t just about you and Mason anymore.
This was about her - Lily. It was about her future, her happiness, how his presence in her life would have a tremendous impact on how she’d develop and what kind of adult she’d be. Nothing would ever be the same, and there was nowhere to run.

‘So I have a little favour to ask’ Carly sang down the phone to you and you couldn't deny the sound of her voice filled you with joy. You'd been home from Portugal for two weeks now and you’d missed being around her everyday. Your mood significantly dropping since you’d got back home but it wasn’t just the absence of your best friend in your life that was making you miserable.
Not a word had been exchanged between you and Mason since that night he left you in bed. Not a call or a text. Nothing. No sign of life from him at all and the longer it went on the more your heart broke.
‘Oh yeah, what’s up?’ You asked her, hoping it was nothing too much as you weren’t in the mood.
‘Welllll, Ben and I were hoping to host a little gathering at the weekend and I was hoping you’d come’ she asked sweetly but you could tell there was something else.
‘You know I will, so what’s the catch’
‘Fine’ she laughed. ‘We were hoping to make it a pizza making party, like do something a little different? Bens just got the new oven installed and wants to try it out’ she explained.
‘Let me guess, you want me to make the pizza dough?’
‘Well you are a professional baker’ she giggled. ‘Pleaseeee I’ll make sure I’ve got all your favourite toppings and I’ll get you a bottle of that fancy gin you like’
‘Oh yeah?’
‘I mean you’ll have to share it with me but of course’
‘It’s fine i’ll do it you’ laughed, thinking it would probably be a good idea to socialise again after keeping to yourself for a little while but there was a thought itching away in the back of your brain. ‘Hey, Carly. Who else is gonna be there?’
‘Oh the usuals, Dec, Lauren, Woody, Kayla’ she listed off and the omission of a certain someone’s name made you relax. ‘Bens also got a friend from home here and possibly a couple of the Chelsea boys might come. Oh and Mason too, he’s free that weekend’
‘Oh so quite a few then’ you breathed, your heart sinking as she finally listed his name off but you’d already agreed to go and couldn’t back out now no matter how much you wanted to.
You thought about it the whole afternoon though. It felt too soon to see him but you knew you’d have to get it over with eventually. It’s not like you didn’t want to talk to him, often finding yourself typing something out for him to message but you were too scared to hit send on anything as he was yet to make a move himself.
When you made it home, your concierge waved you over before handing you a parcel. You took it with a smile, the box being heavier than you first anticipated as it wasn’t overly big but you managed to get it upstairs and once you were in you tore into it. Unsure of what was inside until you’d taken all the bubble wrap off to reveal the hand decorated tip jar that Mason had painted for you. Your heart leaping at the memory of when he first showed you his design and you spent the next few minutes giving it a proper look over.
It was all still there, the pretty flowers and little cakes, the heart with gwens face in but what really made you melt was the detail on the bottom you missed. His initials, MM, in a little heart and you had to bite your bottom lip to hold your emotions in.
All you could think about was messaging him, just wanting to hear his voice but after how things were left you were still feeling unsure of yourself and if he’d want to talk so you resisted. Instead looking back at videos you’d taken of the pair of you on your week away, your favourite being the one from a pool day in the middle of the week where he was giving you a tutorial on how to dive into the pool. You could hear your voice over the speaker telling him there was no chance in hell you’d ever get in there and the sarcastic pout he gave you made you smile.
You managed to hold it together but as the days became closer to seeing him you could feel yourself freaking out. You decided to throw yourself into work and the night before you distracted yourself by making all the dough for the next day. Making way more than you needed to but it seemed to be your coping mechanism for the night so you didn’t think about looking back into his brown eyes again.
When you arrived at Bens the next night you were thankful that Woody and Kayla arrived at the same time and helped you carry everything inside and once in, you made the rounds and said hello to everyone. There were a few faces you didn’t recognise and when you were sat with Carly you watched a girl come from downstairs and lounge over the back of the sofa like it was her own.
You were constantly watching the door, waiting for a specific person to show and just like usual he turned up late so you were semi caught off guard.
You heard his voice before you turned to give him a once over and you hated the way your tummy sunk at the sight of him. The last time you’d seen him he was abandoning you in your bed as he made it clear you were nothing more than someone he wanted to fuck for the week. Now he was just Mason again and you weren’t sure you’d be able to differentiate between the two.
You couldn’t take your eyes off him though, watching him say hello to everyone before he got to the girl who’d come from upstairs and they both looked thrilled to see each other. Him wrapping his arms around her waist as she buried her face his neck and you had to turn away before you burst into tears.
Who was she? And why were they so cosy? You knew the pout on your face was visible and before you could stop yourself you were tugging on Carly’s arm.
‘Hey, Carly? who’s that girl?’
‘Who, Kenny?’ She asked but you could tell she wanted to roll her eyes a bit. ‘Ben invited her, they’re old friends and she’s here for the weekend’
‘Oh right… What’s she like?
‘She fine’ she shrugged but you knew there was more to the story. ‘I wish she wouldn’t lay all over the sofa like that though’ she laughed and even though it was in jest you knew she was serious. ‘I think Ben’s been trying to set her and Mason up for a while now but I’m not sure how well it’s working’ she told you and you felt your heart sink. You didn’t push her for anything else though and soon enough you felt a hand on your shoulder that was gone as soon as it came.
‘Ladies, how are we?’ Mason smirked, leaning over to give Carly a quick kiss on the cheek before looking down at you. ‘You alright?’
‘Good thanks, you?’ You asked, keeping still just in case he tried to kiss your cheek too but he didn’t move a muscle. Looking down at you with a blank expression and you hated not being able to read him.
‘Yeah not bad. It’s good to see you’
‘You too’ you whispered. Not sure how good it was to see him right now and his standoffishness was making your heart shatter.
Mason was about to say something else when the sound of his name being called across the room startled you both. Looking to see Kenny waving him over and he gave you a sympathetic smile before leaving you alone.
You couldn’t lie, his apparent coldness hurt and you had to turn away from Carly so as not to let it show how upset you were. The fact that he couldn’t even seem to touch you in some way for more than a second made you feel rubbish and you knew you’d be in for a long night which was only made worse by the fact Mason and Kenny seemed to know each other and Ben was trying to set them up. You felt him slipping through your fingers even more and you had to give yourself a mini pep talk to carry on.
Not wanting to be a party pooper you put on your brave face and went to sit with Kayla and Woody. Catching up with everything they’d been up to and reliving your favourite holiday moments before Dec, Lauren and a few others joined you. Dec giving you a sympathetic smile but you just shrugged your shoulders. Not wanting to speak about any of it.
You could see Mason out of the corner of your eye, standing with Kenny as they chatted just the two of them and you wondered why he never came to join you until Carly called you into the kitchen and they finally joined everyone else. Realising you must have been the reason he didn't want to sit with everyone and you felt your eyes sting.
You kept away from him on purpose after that, not wanting to keep him away from his friends so you stuck into helping Carly in the kitchen until she got hot and said she wanted to go and change. Leaving you on your own to finish up cutting the pizza toppings.
‘Sorry, y/n’ you suddenly heard behind you, the sound of Mason's voice making you jump but when you turned to face him, he was standing as far away from you as he could get. ‘Shit sorry, I didn’t mean to make you jump. I was just wondering if you could grab me a glass?’ He asked quietly. Head nodding to the cupboard above your head so with a quick nod you pulled one out and handed it to him.
Your fingers brushed, just for a second, but when you looked up he was looking down still. Unable to meet your eyes so you turned back around to continue chopping.
You heard him move, thinking he would be leaving but when you felt him next to you your heart gave a thud. Carrying on chopping as he faced inwards towards the kitchen but you were waiting for him to speak first.
‘Sorry we haven’t spoken much lately, I’ve just had a lot on’ he told you quietly and you knew it was the worst excuse in the world from him. The way he didn’t care enough to be honest with you made you feel sick and you had no idea how to respond
‘S’fine’ you shrugged, eyes down as you bit the inside of your cheek.
‘No it’s not. I know I just left and that wasn't cool’
‘Its fine’
‘Y/n-‘
‘Mase?’ Ben suddenly called, head popping into the kitchen and his eyes lit up at the sight of him. ‘Ahh there you are. We’re playing Pictionary and Kenny needs a partner. You coming?’
Mason didn’t respond, his eyes flashing down to you first but you just gave him a forced smile.
‘It’s fine, go’
‘Y/n-‘
‘Y/n, you wanna come join? I’m sure we can find you someone’ Ben interjected, cutting Mason off thankfully but you just shook your head.
‘No thanks, I’ve got some stuff to finish in here’ you told Ben before looking back up into Mason's soft eyes. An unreadable expression behind them but you knew you couldn’t look at him for too long. ‘Go on, I won’t get finished otherwise’
‘You sure?’ He asked but you just sent him a nod back. Looking back down to what you were chopping before you felt him sigh and push himself up to leave. The feel of his hand on your waist making you freeze as you felt him press a fleeting kiss to the crown of your head before walking out the door to leave you on your own. Your eyes filled up immediately but you blinked the tears away and took a deep breath in to steady yourself.
He was so confusing and truth be told, you couldn’t face watching Mason with her so you kept yourself out of the way on purpose. Making up jobs in the kitchen and setting everything out for everyone else so that when Carly came back everything was good to go and it was worth it to see the smile on her face.
You let everyone else make their pizzas first, helping Woody out a little bit as he seemed to have no idea what he was doing but you didn’t dare look in Masons direction as Kenny was half draped over him. Soon enough the kitchen was clearing as people took theirs out to the new pizza oven to be cooked and you felt like you were able to take a breath.
After everything that had happened tonight you weren’t very hungry but now everyone had left you could make yours in peace and you were almost done when you felt a presence beside you and you knew who it was immediately
‘You still going?’ Mason asked, taking a seat beside you as you popped the last of your toppings on
‘I’m almost done, I want it to be perfect’ you told him quietly ‘I take pizza very seriously’
‘Well yours looks way better than mine’ he huffed and you sent him a small smile. ‘Are we okay?’ He asked carefully, his voice small and scared almost and when you finally made eye contact with him you saw how sad he looked.
‘Why wouldn’t we be?’
‘You just seem… quiet’
‘Long day’ you shrugged, gulping back your emotions but before you could say anything else you heard people start to filter back inside. ‘Go on, yours is probably done. I’ll just cook mine and be in’
He didn’t reply, just stood up with a sigh as you were already making your way outside where now only Ben and Carly were. You told them you were fine to finish up if they wanted to go inside and you were left with just your thoughts.
You were being miserable and you knew you were and you knew you had to snap out of it. You were the one who caught feelings, clearly he hadn’t so this was a you issue and if you didn’t fix up you were risking ruining the whole friendship group.
Before any of this Mason was a friend and the friendship came first. There was no point dwelling on what had happened and the fact that nothing probably ever would again but you missed being civil with him more than anything so after a quick pep talk you told yourself you’d make an effort with him to be normal. You’d leave the past in the past and move on so you could have your friend back as that was the most important thing. Even if that meant watching him fawn over someone else.
These things don’t work out like you want them too sometimes and that’s okay. But your mood wasn’t and after the realisation hit you, you made sure you’d be cherpier when you went back inside.
You felt lighter as you made your way back in, stopping in the kitchen to cut your pizza up and as if by magic Mason appeared. Walking over to the fridge to grab a drink before standing opposite you.
‘I came to check up on your masterpiece’ he smiled sweetly but he seemed taken aback as you looked back at him with a bright smile.
‘Oh yeah? What do you think’ you asked, showing it to him proudly with a wide smile and your sudden change of demeanour had him looking at you bewildered but he soon mirrored your expression and smiled back at you widely.
‘I think, I probably should have asked you to make mine’ he laughed, eyes wide as he looked over your food and you figured this would be a good time to give him an olive branch and let him know everything was okay.
‘Here, why don’t you take this bit’ you told him, popping a slice on his plate and the rosy blush that took over his cheeks made you smile.
‘No I-I couldn’t’ he stuttered, looking at you like he was in shock but you nodded at him encouragingly.
‘Please? I’ll never finish it all. I want you to have some’ you told him, placing your hand on his arm and his eyes flashed to where you were touching him before looking at you with a soft smile.
‘Thank you’ he whispered but before anything else could be said, Carly was calling you over to sit with her.
‘I’m gonna go eat, but I’ll see you in a bit, yeah?’
‘Okay’ he breathed, a huge smile on his face as he looked at you and you hated the fact that all you wanted to do was kiss him but with one last smile you let him go and took your seat next to Carly.
You sat and listened to everyone talking, chipping in when you needed to but your eyes were on Mason and Kenny, hating the way she looked at him and even worse the way he was looking at her. You told yourself outside you’d have to get used to it but it was going to take more than one evening to do that.
You ignored it though until you couldn’t, watching them discuss the pizza on his plate before she picked up the slice you’d given him from yours and take a massive bite from it.
You were filled with rage instantly. That slice was meant for him, a peace offering of sorts to let him know that the pair of you would be okay and he’d just handed it over to his new play thing like it was nothing.
Your appetite was gone in an instant so you let Carly know you were quickly running to the loo so you could sort yourself out but memories of you and Mason getting physical on this very counter made your blood boil and you just wanted to go home.
Everywhere you looked you could see him and you knew you couldn’t stick around much longer.
Everyone had disbursed by the time you got back downstairs but you found Carly as quickly as you could so you could say goodbye before slipping out.
‘I don’t wanna cause a fuss, I’ll just go it’s fine’ you told her with a weak smile. ‘It’s been a long day and I just don’t feel great’
‘Oh no’ she pouted, pulling you into her body for a hug and you had to bite your lip so you didn’t cry. ‘You sure you’re alright?’
‘I’m fine. I’m just gonna head out before anyone sees. Just tell them I don’t feel good if anyone asks’ you told her and even though she was pouting at you tried not to let it bother you too much as you hated upsetting her and if you carried on seeing how sad she was you’d end up staying.
You’d almost made it out the door when a voice you didn’t recognise called your name and you turned to see Kenny smiling at you sweetly.
‘Hey, I don't believe we’ve met. I’m Kenny, you’re y/n right?’
‘Uh yeah, that’s me’
‘I thought so, I recognised you from everyone’s holiday pictures. I was so jealous but I’m so happy my spot wasn’t wasted’ she smiled but her words confused you.
‘What do you mean, your spot?’
‘Oh Mason didn't tell you?’ She asked, brows raising in shock like she couldn’t believe you didn’t know but you could tell she was about to take some satisfaction in filling you in. ‘I was meant to go with him originally but like a week before I had a really important job come up and I had to back out. I told Mason to find someone else to take and he mentioned you guys were friends. You know what Masons like he probably didn’t want to say anything and upset you’
Her words sliced through you, gaping holes left in your chest at the idea of being just an afterthought for Mason. Second choice, just like normal. You felt like you couldn’t take in a proper breath and you were hoping she didn’t notice how her words were tearing to pieces but even if she did you weren’t sure she would have cared. ‘Don’t worry though, he’s promised me a solo trip just the two of us soon to make up for it’ she laughed before her eyes were back on you. ‘You're leaving so soon?’
‘Yeah I’m not feeling great, I'm just gonna head home’ you said quietly, eyes on the floor so she couldn’t see the pain in them and you stuffed yourself into your coat so you could leave.
‘Oh okay, well hopefully see you around’ she told you sweetly but all you could do was nod before rushing out of the door.
You could barely focus as you drove home. Feeling even more used now that you knew you were his back up. Probably only sleeping with you as you were all he had to choose from and you felt even dirtier than before.
You’d really let yourself believe you meant a little something to him but you couldn’t stand thinking about him anymore. Even if you were only friends you thought he would have treated you with a bit more respect than this.
You were even more emotional when you finally got to the safety of your flat. Tears filling your eyes but you resisted the urge to let them escape. Jumping in the shower before changing into a comfy pair of pjs so you could get ready for bed and cry your little heart out but fate wasn’t on your side tonight.
You thought about ignoring the knock on your door, but it was late so you knew it wasn’t random. Opening up the door with a huff to reveal the last person you wanted to see and the sight of him raised your blood pressure.
‘Mason, what do you want?’ You asked with furrowed brows and you knew you looked pissed from the way he was looking back at you.
‘Charming’ he laughed, but you didn’t react. Watching his face drop a little bit but he carried on. ‘Carly said you weren’t feeling too well I was just coming to check on you’
‘There’s no need, I’m fine’ you told him bluntly but just like usual Mason was giving up without a fight.
‘Can I come in then?’
‘Where’s Kenny’ you questioned, eyebrow raised but he looked even more confused at this.
‘How should I know?’ He scoffed, looking at you like you’d lost your mind and you realised you couldn't send him away no matter how much you wanted to. Hoping he’d see you weren’t in the mood for visitors and leave but this was Mason you were talking about and as soon as you moved aside to let him in you wished you hadn’t of.
He walked through your flat, making his way to the living room where he perched himself on the arm of the sofa so he could face you as you stood far away from him in the doorway. Hands behind your back as he played with his in his lap, both in silence for a beat until he looked up at you with his big eyes and you nearly lost it.
‘Are you gonna tell me what’s really wrong? Cause you look fine’ he told you and you felt your anger rise up in your throat.
‘Oh and you’re the authority on who’s sick then are you? Sorry I didn't realise I had to meet your standards to pass. What do you want me to do, cough up a lung? Would you believe me then?’
‘What the hells gotten into you?’ He laughed, a look of disbelief on his face and you knew you had to tone it down a little bit.
‘Nothing’ you huffed, eyes on the floor so he couldn't read you but you saw him shuffle about uncomfortably.
‘Well it has. Look I know things have been a little weird since Portugal but I’m only here for a few days and I…’
‘And what?’
‘I miss you’ he whispered. You heart breaking at the sound of his voice but you knew you had to stay firm. ‘Things aren’t the same as they used to be. What happened to the contract? Friendship comes first and all that shit? You can barely look at me now’ he told you, unable to hide the hurt in his voice but you were too upset to let it affect you. ‘Last time we spoke at Ben's things seemed better and now you’ve gone all cold again’
‘I said already, I don’t feel well’
‘You don’t expect me to believe that’
‘Believe what you want’ you mumbled and the sigh that he let out almost broke your heart.
‘I hate all this, being off with each other and stuff. Why can’t we just go back to how it was?’
‘Cause I fucking like you, you idiot!’ you suddenly exploded, silencing him immediately as he stared at you in shock and you knew you needed to take it down a peg. ‘I like you’ you told him, your voice sounding vulnerable and small as your eyes fell to the floor. ‘I know about the contract and I remember the rules but I like you. And I’ve been trying to make it stop but I can’t and then you shared my pizza that I gave you with some random girl I’ve never seen before right in front of me’
‘It’s just pizza, Muffin’ he said quietly, trying to hide the smile on his face but you saw it clear as day. He hadn’t called you Muffin since the second to last day in Portugal, the sound making your knees weak and your eyes water but you were determined not to show him what he was doing to you.
‘It’s the principle’ you huffed shakily, wanting him to understand how insignificant he’d made you feel and by the way his eyes dropped you think he got the picture. ‘It hurt, Mase’
‘I didn’t mean to hurt you’ he told you softly, standing up to be closer to you and when he reached for your hand you let him take it. ‘That’s the last thing I’d want to do. Truth is I never actually gave it to her, she picked it up off my plate before I could say anything. I was actually pretty pissed cause I wanted to eat it, like I’d saved it till last on purpose and I knew I couldn’t ask you for another bit’ he laughed, trying to make you smile and you almost conceded. ‘There’s something else though, isn’t there’
‘What do you mean?’
‘It’s not just the pizza you’re upset about. Something else is wrong’ he stated and you froze.
What did he expect you to say?
You’d admitted you liked him and even though he hadn’t said it back he also hadn't shot you down. If anything he looked lighter from your confession and you figured you had nothing left to lose so you decided to be honest.
‘That girl.. the one who stole my pizza’
‘Kenny?’
‘Who is she?’ You whispered. Your voice sounding scared like you might not like the answer but from the way Mason was looking at you you felt yourself settling down.
‘A friend of Bens from back home. I didn’t meet her that long ago but he introduced us cause she lives in Manchester now’ he explained and you hated the fact she lived so close to him.
‘Oh, so you haven’t known her long?’
‘Not really. Why?’ He asked and even though it was petty you just shrugged your shoulders. ‘Hey come on. What happened?’ He asked, pulling you back towards the arm of the sofa and in between his legs so he could hold your waist but you kept your arms crossed in front of you. ‘Please tell me, Muffin. I can’t help if I don’t know’
‘When you told me you’d paid for my part of the holiday already and were waiting to convince me, were you telling the truth?’ You asked quietly, not wanting to look him in the eyes so you focused on his shoulder instead but you could see from the corner of your eye the confused look on his face.
‘Of course I was. Why? Did someone say something different?’
‘She told me that space was booked for her. That you’d invited her first but a job came up and she couldn’t go so that’s why you never asked me sooner cause it never really was for me. I was just back up but you didn’t want to upset me’
‘First of all, that’s bullshit. It was always meant for you and I’ve got the texts to prove it’ he told you, reaching for his phone to prove his point but you felt a little silly now.
‘Mase it’s fine-‘
‘No, I wanna show you. I don’t want you to think that when it wasn’t that at all’ he told you, his voice hard but you knew his frustrations weren’t aimed at you.
Tumblr media
‘See, it was always for you’ he told you gently, your heart sinking at the fact you’d believed her so easily.
‘Why did she say that to me then?’
‘Cause she’s probably annoyed you ended up going’ he laughed. ‘Look, I’ll admit I took her out on a date a few weeks before I came down that weekend we… you know for the first time’ he explained. ‘Nothing special, just dinner and some drinks and she asked about any plans over the winter break and this came up. I think Ben must have mentioned it already and she told me she was up for it if your space was available and I said I’d let her know. Obviously it wasn’t and she got a bit jealous I guess and wanted to make you feel a bit shit about it’
‘Well mission accomplished’ you laughed, uncrossing your arms so you didn’t look so defensive but you were still a little uncomfortable so you just played with your fingers and he let out a gentle sigh.
‘Muffin, who are we trying to kid?’ He asked you softly, your eyes on his face immediately and the soft look on his face made your knees weak.
‘What do you mean?’
‘I mean, there’s clearly something here. Why are we trying so hard to fight it?’ He asked quietly and you felt your breath catch in the back of your throat. ‘Did you mean what you said earlier?’
‘Depends, what did I say?’ You laughed and he squeezed your hips softly.
‘When you said you liked me, did you mean it?’ He questioned, wanting an answer but you weren’t ready to speak so you just nodded, hoping that would be enough for him. ‘Well, I like you too. A lot in fact, more than I ever intended to. And I know it’s against the rules but fuck all that’ he laughed. ‘Why are we fighting so hard against what we want?’
‘I’m not sure’ you whispered, eyes finally meeting his and you smiled at him but his last words to you in Portugal were still ringing in your ears. ‘I guess after what you said on our last night away and how you were for that whole day, I just didn’t think you’d ever want anything more from me. You made me feel like crap, like you got what you wanted and you were done’
You watched the hurt flash over his features, reliving his words to you from that night and even though he hadn’t said a lot, he knew his words along with his actions had really upset you.
‘I didn’t say any of that stuff cause I believed it’ he sighed. ‘You don’t know how many times that night I came back to your door ready to knock it down and tell you how I was feeling. Why do you think I left that night like I was going out of my mind and I was crying like a baby’ he laughed but your heart broke at the sound of his confession. ‘I was so caught up in you and then reality hit that I probably can’t give you what you want. What you deserve’
‘What do you mean?’ You asked quietly, hands finally resting on his chest as you reached out to touch him and he smiled and pulled you in closer at the gesture.
‘You’re this big scary boss lady who’s got so much going for her, you know? Like you’ve got your whole little empire and that’s your world. I thought being with me would be too much for you or something. I’m so far away now and I can’t give you the time you deserve. Maybe I’m not making that much sense’
‘You’re really not’ you laughed, thinking he looked adorable when he rambled but you knew he wanted to carry on so you let him.
‘I’m so proud of you and everything you are and everything that you have. I guess I don’t want to get in the way of that’
‘What if I want you in the way?’ You asked and he looked up at you hopefully. Flashing you your favourite smile that you hadn’t seen in what felt like a lifetime and you had to really hold back to not kiss him. ‘Yes I’m busy and yes I have a lot of stuff to do but do you remember what you said to me on the stairs at Ben's house before we went away?’
‘I said a lot of stuff’ he winked, clearly reliving all the ways he’d tried to woo you on the stairs and you blushed as you remembered his words.
‘You did’ you laughed, nodding your head as you moved your hands to his shoulders. ‘But you said everyone’s got time, you just have to make it. And you Mason, I’d be more than willing to make time for you’
‘Yeah?’ he questioned with a laugh and you nodded reassuring him before his face fell. ‘I’m really sorry. I feel like I’ve acted like such a brat’
‘Did I do something?’ You whispered, wanting to get to the bottom of what really happened. ‘I feel like that last day it went all wrong. You just left without a word and didn’t even try to make it right’
‘I know, I was trying to run away I think. I knew I pushed it too far that night before and we broke all the rules but I was past the point of caring. All I wanted was to wake up next to you that morning, kiss you and tell you how I really felt. But you’d gone and then I saw you in the pool with Chilly and it drove me mad’
‘He was teaching me how to swim, Mase’
‘I know’ he laughed, looking like he realised how silly he sounded but you knew there was more to it. ‘But you told me you wouldn’t ever get in the pool for me and after we’d had the day before and it was so perfect, I could feel myself caring more than I knew I should. It fucking hurt that you didn’t ask me and I know it sounds stupid cause it is so I thought it was best to shut it down. I should of handled it differently though I’m sorry’
‘I’m sorry Mase, I didn’t even think. I never meant to make you feel like that’
‘I know you didn’t’ he smiled, pulling you in closer so that your bodies were flush against each other now. ‘There’s nothing to be sorry for I was just jealous’
‘Is that why you spoke to those girls that night?’
‘That looked worse than it was, but I get it didn’t look great so I’m sorry’ he whispered, looking at you with eyes full of guilt but you just nodded. ‘The guys were going in at me at the bar about you and asking why I hadn’t spoken to any other girls that week and then she practically crashed into me. She was as drunk as anything but she told me she was a fan so I spoke to her hoping the boys would leave me alone. She was falling all over me though and I could barely hear her so I tried to steady her and let her know I’d walk her back to her table but you with your incredible timing popped up at the worst possible moment’ he laughed. ‘But I walked her back and then her friends were asking me loads of questions about United so I just sat with them for a bit to get the others off my back but as soon as Dec told me you were out of it I left them’
‘I know’ you whispered, silently relieved that things weren’t as they seemed. ‘Thank you for looking after me’
‘You don’t have to thank me, all I care about is you being okay and I get it didn’t seem like that sometimes’ he sighed. ‘That whole day I knew it was gonna be my last with you and I was miserable. Didn’t wanna do anything or speak to anyone, like once I was over my strop that morning I just wanted to hold you cause I knew I wouldn’t be allowed to the next day. I was terrified of talking to you about anything cause I knew I’d get upset so I just didn’t and then when we went out I thought if I wasn’t around you then I could push it all down and move on and maybe by the time we saw each other again it’d be alright but as soon as I saw you earlier I knew I’d messed up. I don't think I can be just friends with you now Muffin, it’s not gonna work. Not when I know I want so much more from you’
‘Really?’ You breathed, your bottom lip wobbling as his worlds sunk in.
‘Promise. That holiday just proved to me I’d do absolutely anything for you and these last few weeks without you have been hell’ he confessed. ‘I’ve missed you. So much’ he whispered, kissing your cheek and you blushed at his words. ‘Missed holding you and kissing you and pretending that you’re mine. I’m fed up with pretending though like I’ve had enough of it’
‘Me too’ you laughed, thinking his stroppy expression was adorable but your smile made him smile too.
‘So we’re gonna do this then?’ He asked hopefully and you knew you couldn’t deny him.
‘I think so’ you nodded, holding him close as you squeezed each other tightly. ‘I have no idea how or anything but we can sort it out. I just know I want you’
‘We’ll find a way, I’d do anything to make this work’ he assured you and you couldn’t take it anymore. Leaning forward to finally kiss him like you’d wanted to for the longest time and he reciprocated straight away. Lightly brushing his lips against yours as the pair of you tried to not smile but it was too difficult. Giggling onto each other's lips before you pulled away and you just hoped you mirrored the joy that was so plainly written over Mason's face.
‘How I’ve gone that long without kissing you I’ll never know’ he told you, pressing another heavy kiss to your lips. ‘How about we start a Sugar Mumma franchise in Manchester?’ He teased, eyebrows wiggling to let you know he was only half joking but you quite liked the sound of it.
‘I mean I’m always looking for opportunities to expand’ you laughed, pulling back to look into his eyes and they were the happiest you’d seen him all evening and knowing it was because of you made you blush.
‘You gonna let me be your muffin man, then?’ He joked, referencing the fact he always asked if you had found your Mr. Muffin but little did he know he’d been your muffin man all along.
You quickly escaped from his arms so you could grab your phone, wanting to show him something he’d never seen before and when you returned he sat you down in his lap with his arms crossed over your front before he kissed your neck softly.
‘I wanna show you something’ you laughed, quickly opening up your messages to reveal to him the name you had him under in your contacts and you watched his face as the realisation hit him before he looked at you softly. ‘You’ve always been my muffin man’
‘How long has it been like that?’ He laughed, squeezing you a little tighter as he kissed your cheek but you didn’t have time to answer him as a notification from Dec came through and you were left confused.
Tumblr media
‘What’s that supposed to mean?’ You questioned aloud. Looking up at Mason but you could tell from his shy face that he knew what was going on. ‘Mase?’
‘Well I realised pretty quickly you’d gone but I didn’t know what to do so I waited until Woody asked and when Carly said you didn’t feel well I knew something was off’ he shrugged. ‘You were fine before we ate so I went into another room to try and call you but Dec found me before I got a chance and when I told him what I was doing he gave me a bit of a talking to’ he gulped, his face going as red as you’d ever seen it and you weren’t sure if you wanted to hear anymore. ‘Don’t be upset with him but he told me about when you spoke after I’d left. I don't think he told me everything but I got the main parts and I felt like such a knob. He told me he’d bang our heads together if I didn’t come over and make things right so I left and I guess he thinks if we’ve worked it out then it’s all down to him’
‘Well he’s been suspicious from the start I guess’ you shrugged. ‘You know he told me he’d love for you to have someone like me? That I could be just what you need’
‘I mean he’s not wrong but when did he say that?’
‘Day of the boat trip, when we got back from dinner and you had a word with him. I think he only kept teasing cause he was trying to push us together’
‘Well he should have saved himself the bother, I’ve been yours for a while’ he winked and you felt yourself cuddle into him as you blushed.
‘Really?’
‘Of course, had me hooked since that first chocolate muffin’ he confessed. ‘I like you a lot and I didn’t want you to think I’m like what everyone else sees me as. I love having you in my life and I love having you as a friend but lately I couldn’t help but see you as more’ he told you truthfully. ‘And then you showed up at my birthday looking hot as hell like you’re enough to drive anyone insane’ he teased and his words made you giggle as you tried to hide your face in your hands.
‘I never thought you’d see me as more than a friend’ you laughed, holding him tighter as he peppered kisses to your cheek. ‘And I love being your friend but I’ve always had a soft spot for you’
‘We can still be friends’ he told you softly. Kissing your cheek gently before smiling down at you. ‘Well just be extra special friends who kiss and get to see each other naked’ he teased and you rolled your eyes playfully. ‘Plus now you're my girl you get a prime face time slot’
‘Are you ever serious?’ You laughed, turning in his arms so you could pull him into a hug and you shivered at the way he tucked himself into your neck.
‘I’m serious about you’ he whispered into your skin and you couldn’t contain your smile but you knew in the back of your mind this wouldn’t be as simple as you wanted it to be. ‘What’s wrong, muffin?’
You gave him a sad smile, your heart thumping at how he was able to read you so easily before shrugging lightly. ‘Just worrying’
‘Well don’t, there’s nothing to worry about’
‘Well there is. What’s everyone gonna say? I know Carly will be upset I kept this from her’
‘Wanna know a secret?’ He whispered, his voice sounding playful and you looked up at him in confusion. ‘I think she knows’
‘How? Did you say something?’
‘Of course not, but just like my best friend figured it out I think yours has too. Probably knew before we knew ourselves. Remember when we were at the airport and you made your big entrance?’ He teased, making you hide your face in embarrassment but he was quick to pull your hands apart. ‘She came over to speak to me, mainly just to say thank you for the surprise but she asked me if something was going on between us as she knew you always keep your cards close to your chest’
‘Well now I feel even worse’
‘You don’t have to, she knows you’ll tell her when you’re ready’ he reassured you. Kissing you softly before squeezing your hip. ‘Are you working tomorrow?’
‘Gave myself the day off’ you told him, shaking your head into his neck and you felt him squeeze you tighter.
‘Well I’m staying at Woodlands Park, treated myself to a suite but it’s a bit pointless on my own. Will you come and stay with me tonight?’
‘Really?’ You asked, excitement bubbling through you as you knew it was super fancy there and you’d always wanted to go but the fact you got to spend the night with Mason after so long was even more appealing. You pulled back to look at him, laughing as he gave your bum a cheeky pinch and he nodded at you shyly.
‘Of course, I don’t wanna go back there without you’ he whispered and you knew you didn’t want to leave him either. ‘I promise I’ll get you room service in the morning’ he laughed, trying to convince you further but you were already wanting to free yourself from his grip so you could grab your things.
‘Give me five minutes and I’ll be ready’ you laughed, reaching down so you could kiss him again quickly before sorting yourself out but he held you close to him so you couldn’t move. His face serious when you looked at him
‘Thank you, Muffin. I’ve honestly been miserable without you and I’m really glad we get to start again’ he told you truthfully. Your eyes stinging as you nodded back at him softly before he kissed your forehead. ‘We’ll do it the right way this time, yeah? No more secrets or ground rules or whatever else. We’ll just be honest with each other about our feelings and we’ll go from there okay?’
‘Okay’ you whispered, loving the way Mason made it sound so easy when you knew it probably wouldn’t be but you also knew there was no one else you wanted to try this hard with and when he lent forward to capture your lips again, you let him. Content being back in his arms and thankful you’d broken all your rules for him.

Pairing: Mason Mount x Reader
Summary: Reader is a single mom and the new Social Media Executive of the club and Mason falls in love with her at first sign.
Word count: 2293
Read part 2 here and part 3 here
Author's note: English isn't my first language, so I apologise for my mistakes. I'm also pretty sure I got some words American - British mixed up.
Call me friend but keep me closer (call me back) And I'll call you when the party's over
It has been four months since you returned to England. The home you had been away from for far too long. A new house and a new job were just what you needed in your life.
After you left and made a living in the States, you felt the need to come back home and be close to your family and old friends. Everything felt right.
"Yes mum, tomorrow is fine." You were tidying your desk before leaving when your phone rang. "Listen, I have to go, but I'll call you when I get home. Say hi to Dad for me. Love you too."
You ended the call and grabbed your handbag with some papers to take home. Before closing the door, you grabbed Noah's bag, which he had left on the floor even though you told him to put it on the sofa.
You were looking at the papers in your hand when you saw Chilwell enter, with his hair sweaty and laughing alone. He looked up and pointed his finger at you.
"You!" Even though you hadn't been in the club that long, everyone on the team made you feel welcome, especially the boys because you were about the same age as most of them. "Your boy is going to be a footballer."
You laughed at his comment. "He kicked a lot when I was pregnant. Where is he?"
"He's still in the field." You furrow your brows. Why was he still there? You thought to yourself. "He's playing with Kai and Mason." Your heart did a little jump when you heard his name, something that had happened since the first time you saw him. "You have to go get him or they'll stay there for the rest of the day." He said goodbye and went into the changing room.
You took a deep breath and tried to calm your heart. You hadn't seen Mason all day and you expected it to stay that way, but your son had other plans for you.
You felt like a teenager in love when you were around the handsome footballer.
"Noah!" You shouted at the boys on the field. Kai was lying down on the grass, breathing heavily, while Noah was trying to take the ball away from Mason.
"Mum!" Noah shouted back when he heard his name. The game stopped automatically and everyone looked at you. Without realising it, your eyes stayed on Mason longer than necessary. "No. Already?" He whined.
Kai stood up and Mason picked up the ball. With a sad expression on his face and Mason's hand on his shoulder, Noah and the two boys walked towards you.
"It's time to go. It's already late. Mason and Kai can't play with you forever."
"They're unstoppable, of course they can." The two footballers laughed at the boy's remark. "Let's stay a little longer, please." He pleaded, giving you those puppy eyes.
"Noah, they want to go too." The boy looked at Mason and then at Kai.
Kai shrugged his shoulders. "Mate, mothers are always right. We can play tomorrow!" He smiled and messed up his hair.
He looked down at the ground and heaved a sigh. "I can't tomorrow. I have a school trip."
Mason, like everyone at the club, really liked your son and when he saw how sad he looked and sounded, he couldn't just let him go home. He knew he'd give you a hard time for not letting him stay longer. "He can stay with me. I'll take him home." Noah's eyes lighten up.
Since their approach, you looked Mason in the eyes for the first time. "I cannot ask that of you."
"You're not asking. I'm offering." Beside him, Kai smiled subtly at his friend's amorous look. "And it's on my way home."
"I don---"
Noah hugged you and quickly interrupted what you were about to say. "Please, mum. Pleaseeeee. I'll never ask you for anything else ever again." You rolled your eyes, knowing full well he wouldn't keep his promise, not even for a day. "He has a Lamborghini." He whispered loudly enough.
Out of the corner of your eye you saw Mason smile. Oh, that smile!
"And we have a Ford in your favourite colour." He pouted. You gave Mason one last look to make sure everything was okay, and he nodded. Were you seriously going to leave your son with a guy you hadn't known for that long? Mason Mount really made you feel like you were out of control. You squatted down to his level and held him still. "Listen to Mason. Don't give him any trouble. Be nice. Agreed?" Noah smiled and nodded. He hugged you one last time before grabbing the ball from Mason's hand and running back onto the field.
"He has a future in football. He kicked our butts back there." Said Kai to you.
"Yeah, that's what Ben said too."
"Don't worry about it. I'll text you when we leave." Something in his voice and his words made you feel good, maybe because you knew how good he was with children. How good he was with Noah.
"Thanks, Mason. Just… don't stay because he wants you to. If you want to go, drag him out."
You said your goodbyes, leaving the two friends behind. Mason followed you with his eyes until you disappeared.
"What?" He asked when he saw Kai already looking at him with his arms folded and a grin on his face.
"Just ask her out. You two are making me gag with so much tension."
"Do you think I haven't already?" It was true that Mason had a gigantic crush on you. Everyone knew it. And so did you. It wasn't a secret. He never tried to hide it. Every opportunity he had to get close to you, he took it. The only obstacle was you. "She pushes me away every time. I take one step forward, she takes two steps back."
"Probably because she's afraid you'll break her heart. I know she likes you." He looked at your son, who was running around with the ball. "We don't know what happened with her and Noah's father. It probably didn't end well and that's why she's the way she is."
There was no question that you were better at hiding your feelings than Mason, but it was obvious to everyone that he was more than just a colleague of yours.
"I'll ask her again when I've dropped Noah off. I'm not giving up on her that easily. I really like her. I really do."
You were watching the latest episode of your favourite show when you got Mason's text saying they were on their way home. You couldn't help but feel nervous. What would you do when Mason showed up at your door with your son by his side? Would you let him in? Would he want to come in? Would he try to flirt like he always does?
You stopped scratching your nails and got up from the sofa. You went to the kitchen and started cleaning it. You had to do something to clear your head.
You had just finished drying the dishes, something you never do, when you heard and saw the headlights of Mason's car through the window. You felt the butterflies in your stomach, something that never happened with Noah's father.
Mason parked the car next to yours and looked back at your son, who after five minutes had fallen asleep in the car he was so looking forward to. He got out of the car and opened the back door. He took the belt off Noah's body and carefully lifted him up.
You opened the door before he could knock. You had a gentle expression on your face when you saw your son in Mason's arms. He looked peaceful, with his little arms around his neck and his head on his shoulder.
"He fell asleep on the way here."
You smiled. "'After dinner and a good bath, he'll sleep all night. Why don't you come in?" You took a step back to let him into the house.
"I'm sorry. I lost track of time."
You slowly closed the door behind them. "It's fine."
He looked around quickly. "Do you want to wake him up or…?"
"Yes. Just let me heat the bath water for him." Mason handed you your son and the little boy slowly opened his eyes and said something under his breath that he didn't understand. "Make yourself at home. I'll be right back.
Mason bit his lip as he watched you walk down the hall and disappear into a room he assumed was the bathroom.
While you were gone, he took the time to look at the photos on the wall. Most were of Noah when he was a baby, and some were probably of your parents and grandparents. But it was one photo in particular, lying on the coffee table next to your sofa, that caught his attention and he couldn't help but pick it up.
It was a photo of you in black and white. You had a travel bag next to you and a big smile on your face. You looked happy and he couldn't help smiling when he saw the photo.
He put down the frame when he heard the notification of his phone. He pulled it out of his jacket and saw a message from Kai in the group they had with the boys on WhatsApp.
Kai: @Mason M. asked her out already? Ben: What's going on? Has our boy grown a pair? Mason: Shut up you two!
You cleared your throat. He turned around and quickly put his phone on silent, because he knew the boys would start making fun of him.
"Do you want a drink?" You went into the kitchen and he followed. "Water, tea, some kind of apple juice that only Noah likes?"
Your kitchen wasn't the biggest, but you felt that Mason had become a little too close for - the normal behaviour of your heart - your liking.
"Tea would be great." He wasn't a tea guy, but it was the choice that would get him more time with you.
"Good." You started making the tea while Mason leaned against the counter beside you. "Thanks for spending the day with him. I know it means a lot to him."
"What about you? How much did it mean to you?" There it was. With one hand in the pocket of his jogger and the other resting on the counter, he turned his body towards you. He was so close that you could feel his breath on your ear.
"Of course it means a lot to me too. Noah really likes you and I'm glad you like him too." You said without looking at him. You knew where he was going with his question, but you couldn't give him any hope. "Milk?"
"Noah isn't the only one I like." He said, ignoring your question. You swallowed the lump in your throat and turned to him, ready to tell him to stop, but he was quicker. He took a step forward and you jerk back a step. "I like his mother very much. And when I try to tell her that, she shuts down. Maybe she's scared or just doesn't want a relationship right now." You had your back against the fridge and Mason put his hand next to you, trapping you. "But I know she likes me too."
"Mason, stop." You whispered.
His eyes glanced back and forth between your eyes and your lips, and when you saw his tongue dart out to wet his own lips, you had to control yourself not to jump forward and join your lips with his.
"When will you accept my offer and go out with me?"
"I don-- we don't--"
"Just give me a chance. I won't break your heart if that's what you're worried about."
"Mason." He loved the sound of his name when you said it. "I'm a single mother of a seven-year-old boy, still have a house to pay off and a car I've been putting off changing because I need to be responsible with my money. We have completely different lives."
"Well, we like each other. Isn't that enough?" You run your hands down your face. "I don't care if you have a son or if our bank accounts have different numbers. I really like you. Like I've never liked anyone before."
You pushed his arm down so you could escape from his hold. You didn't deny that the feelings were mutual and he took that as a victory. At least now he knew he wasn't imagining the long looks you gave him when you thought he wasn't looking, or how nervous you felt every time he came closer, or the sound of your heartbeat when your lips almost touched a few times already.
He gently grasped your wrist and drew you to him. You put a hand on his chest so you wouldn't bump into him. "Just one date, please?"
You stared at him, it felt like an eternity until he started leaning down to kiss you. You weren't brave enough to push him away, and you didn't want to, so you closed your eyes instead. Your lips were about to touch when you heard Noah.
"MUM!"
You both took a step back and let out a deep sigh. "And that is why we---"
"Don't say that's why we can't be together." He put his hands playfully over his ears. "I'll wait for your answer tomorrow. Good night, beautiful." He cupped your face and a second later he walked out of the house, leaving you standing in your kitchen with a pathetic smile on your face.

We don’t like it
Pairing: Dad!Mason Mount x wife!reader
Warnings: nothing I guess
Summary: Where Mason’s wife and daughter didn’t like when he shaved his beard.
Tumblr media
Today I decided to do something I didn’t do for a long e time.
Shave my beard.
I’ve always been proud of my beard, It was my personal signature and something he'd nurtured for years.
The thick, well-groomed facial hair had become an integral part of him. Yet, there was one recurring scenario that made me hesitate every time I think of shaving it off - my wife and daughter reaction.
So today as I stood in front of the bathroom mirror, razor in my hand, I couldn't help but wonder how the girl’s would react to this. My wife, Y/n, was undoubtedly the most vocal critic.
She claimed that it made me look hot and super attractive so she obviously didn’t like when I shave.
As the shaving foam covered my beard, I remembered the countless times my wife had protest when she sees me without the beard.
My daughter also didn’t like me without it but it was annoying me so much that I could wait any longer to shave it off.
But I had been contemplating this change for a while now. I knew my wife and daughter would initially be surprised, maybe even upset. However, I also believed they would eventually adjust to me with a clean face.
With a deep breath, I began to shave. As the beard disappeared bit by bit, I caught glimpses of my face that I didn’t even remember how it looked since I was with this beard for months.
Once I finished, I examined my clean-shaven face in the mirror and It felt strange, almost as if I had lost a part of myself but it was also liberating in a way I hadn't anticipated.
When I walked into the living room, I was met with a mixed reaction.
My daughter chocked, not sure how to react to this sudden change in her dad's appearance. But my wife, on the other hand, looked surprised but then broke into a smile.
"Wow, you look so different!" she exclaimed.
My daughter Lily got out of my wife’s lap, after a moment of uncertainty she came running to me and I took her in my lap and she began to run her little hands over my face, feeling my face without the beard but with a look of curiosity.
“I don’t like it.” She says after taking of her hand of my face and my wife started laughing.
“What, why?”
“I just don’t like it daddy.”
“Why not?”
“I don’t know.”
“And what about you babe?”
“Well I didn’t like it either.” She says coming towards us. “You look hot, don’t get me wrong but nothing looks better on you than the beard. And you look so young that people may think your under 18.”
“Oh come on, I don’t look that young.”
“Yes you do Mase, your face used to look like this when we met 7 years.”
“I don’t look like I have 18.”
“Yes you do and you know that.”
“I’ll remember not to shave next time since my two girls hate me.” I said being dramatic and Y/n laughs while my daughter looks scared.
“No, I don’t hate you daddy.” She’s says hugging me tight.
“I know you don’t baby and I love you for that.” I kissed her cheek.
“Well don’t shave it next time please.”
“Yes daddy.” Sebe agree with her mom.
“Okay girls I won’t.” I kissed my wife and we sat on the sofa to watch a movie.

mason being really shy and getting flustered when you wear lingerie!!
lingerie - m.m
a/n: hello loves! i hope everyone is okay, this is a very short imagine but i think it’s pretty cute! flustered Mason but also sexy Mason #loveit. anyways enjoy reading 🩰
Tumblr media
you were sat at your vanity doing your skincare after a long day at work just in your lingerie. there was nothing more comfortable than taking off your work clothes and sitting in your underwear before getting ready for bed.
your fiance Mason still wasn’t home yet, training had run late and you thought it would be nice if the two of you had a quiet night in. as you rubbed in your cream the bedroom door opened and a sweaty Mason came through the door.
“hey honey” he didn’t look up at you, he just walked straight into the room and started undressing. “hey baby, how was training?” you continued to do your skincare, sparing him a glance in your mirror.
“it was good, the boys wanted me to go out for a drink but i wanted to come home. i missed you” you stopped doing your skincare and turned to look at him, he was still getting undressed. “you could have gone mase, i wouldn’t have minded”
you wanted Mason to have freedom to do whatever he wanted. “no baby it was a long day and i just wanted to come back to you-” he stuttered when he looked up at you. “woah” mason said, his eyes fixated on you.
“what?” he shook his head but his eyes never left your body. “nothing” he looked away and blushed. “no, go on mase, you seem like you want to say something” you smirked, finding it hilarious that he was getting flustered.
he was in nothing but his boxers now “nothing you just- you look beautiful” he walked towards you and bent down to smother your neck in kisses making you laugh loudly.
“stop it, you’re being silly” your hand went to the back of this head as he continued kissing your neck. “not being silly at all actually. just in my feelings” he wrapped his arms around you and pulled you in closer.
“how can you be so beautiful. you’re just as beautiful as the moment i saw you. actually i’m lying, you look even more beautiful” you blushed ran your hand through his hair. “you’re such a soppy git” he giggled and pulled away slightly so he could look at you.
his eyes trailed down your body, you were beautiful. “you are the definition of perfect y/n, seriously” you rolled your eyes and scoffed. “i’m being serious, you look the best when you’re like this. or when you’re naked” he winked and your pushed him away and laughed.
Masons cheeks were red, he was flushed just looking at you. you were the definition of perfection, the definition of beauty and he couldn’t believe that he was engaged to you. the big diamond ring on your finger was was the best thing he ever gave you and he could wait to be your husband.
“you getting flustered just looking at me honey?” you loved teasing him and his cheeks turned a darker shade or red. “you know i am, stop teasing me it’s not funny” he wrapped his arms around your stomach and rested his head on your stomach too.
“aww poor baby” you ran your hand through his hair and before you know it Mason had picked you up and thrown you over his shoulder. you screamed, completely shocked at what had happened. he never done this before. “Mason fucking hell put me down”
Mason walked to your bed and laughed at you “should i drop you on the bed? or should i carefully put you on the bed?” he said playfully “Mason seriously put me down” you laughed, you could never be serious with him.
he put on on the bed carefully and climbed on top of you. “you look perfect” he said making you smile and blush, maintaining eye contact with him. eye contact with him always made your heart flutter. he smiled and kissed you passionately “i love you, you know that?” you nodded “i love you more”

OH MY GOD: : mason mount x female!reader
author's note: this is, by far one of my cutest fiction I think?! but lemme know what you think anon!! luv xx
contents warning: none // not proofread
Tumblr media Tumblr media
'You got me a dress? ...In my closet room? ...Mason when did you even get here?!' He chuckles through the phone 'I'll tell you about that later alright? Just get dolled up for me angel!' He hung up the phone and you sigh, exasperatedly.
Mason told you today he wanted to bring you to a dinner date at his house, and you as a person who could't said no, you agreed to. What could possibly go wrong anyway?
Everything
You jog upstairs to your room and the linked closet room to see a black box with gold ribbon laid before you on the accessories drawer. You carefully pull open the box to see a long and elegant pink maxi dress neatly tucked
You present the dress in front of you feeling giddy and bubbly to wear it for today's special occasion.
You did your make up not too long after, putting on the dress and get your 'M' initial necklace and a pair of eggshell white pearl dangling earrings. After that you put your hair on a neat low bun and strands of hair at the front curling it a bit.
Satisfied with the look, you grab a purse along with a few of your necessities and then left the house.
Mason on the other hand started to grow more anxious, his polo-collared shirt is beads with sweats, his hands is shaking, too scared for your reaction and his family but he knows none of it won't be too negative but he'll get nagged from both parties.
His family are still preparing the dishes while his father and his brother in law on the hall talking business, him on the other hand has been quite nonstop looking out the window to see if your car had parked outside his residence.
'Guys, dinner's ready!' His sister, Chloe announced 'Mason come on--'
'I invited--'
The front door bell chiming, the whole family turns up to Mason 'Friends coming over?' He gulps, his mom head shake at the weird behavior of his son and gets up 'Let me get the door!'
'I'll do it, mom,' He rush to the door, his whole family is still eyeing him, he could see it from the corner of his views
He opens the door welcoming you, you squealed giving him a long chaste kiss on the lip and his cheeks. A series of 'What?' and a shrieking 'Oh' comes after that, you peep from his shoulder seeing his whole family looking at you both, well partially you...
You gapped in surprise, eyes going back and forth between Mason and his family. The mother came up to you first 'Gosh dear, you must be Mason's girlfriend,' She laugh immediately easing the tension, you gulp eyes burning holes into Mason as she drags you over the table and strike an immediate convos. His father joined in and soon his sister
'So how long you to've known each other?' She questioned you, you awkwardly chuckle 'It was't long, eight months I think? We met during an award show, I was the host and we had short interview together..' You blurted out, Mason beside you smile along and confirming it.
It was like that for the next past hours, his family opening up to you, especially his mom, she's very supportive, very reliable and caring too, easy for a timid person like you to even talk to her.
The day went by fast, and soon they left, you rolled your eyes at Mason and went back inside the house 'Wait babe--'
'What?! You got me meeting your family while I'm like this..' You pouted at him and he laugh, clasping one hand over your waist 'Like what..? You look decent.'
'Am not, I would've put more effort if I know it would be a dinner date with your family... I know I said that I'm ready to meet them whenever but not surprising me like Mase!' You complained, hand crossing over your chest getting sulky
He crooks a small smile and kiss your hand 'Well it went well innit?'
You suck your teeth and dismissed the topic 'Whatever but next time you gotta tell me first so I can prepare gifts or something...' He hums and followed after you inside the house
'You could say that all my family are fond of you, especially mom..' He admitted with a toothy grin, you mirror his expression and nods 'I think so, not too bad am I? Do you think they'll approve me to be part of the Mount family?' You joked sending a giggle his way, he froze for a second before he wraps both arms around you 'Yeah, they won't mind that, I think mom will definitely say this "the sooner the better" don't you think?' You flush down to your neck as Mason laughs at your unexpected reaction 'So cute!' He cooed scooping you up and bringing you to his bedroom
'Stay for the night, yeah love?'

"You're insane. Like how are you real?" Mason questioned, mumbling over his words. His thumb was running across your cheek, holding your head up just close enough to his to feel his breath but nowhere near as close as you wanted to be.
You couldn't speak, instead, you chose to focus on him, taking in as much of him as you could. You could feel his hand running along your leg and keeping you close. You were curled up next to him, almost on top of him but not quite.
"Genuinely, think m'obsessed with you, sweetheart," he whispered straight into your eyes, "want to spend every moment ever with you, never want to let go."
"Yeah?" you breathed, completely flustered by his words and actions.
"Course, baby. I didn't want to look at anything else ever after seeing you and I would spend eternity with you now, just led here. I think I'd die happily and willingly in your arms, there's no better place to be."
You tucked your head into his neck, forcing your body closer to his. His arms wrapped around you instantly, holding you even closer.
"What? Are you too flustered now to let me see your pretty face?" he teased, stroking a hand over your head.
You just whined back, pushing yourself further into him. He shuffled around on the bed, beginning to lie down more comfortably and angling you onto his chest.
You led there together for a while, neither of you saying anything, just being comfortable in the silence. His lips rested on your forehead, occasionally pressing a tender kiss here and there, finding comfort in any part of you that was touching.
"I think you've changed my perspective on love completely, you know." You admitted whilst spinning over, now facing him again, your chest on top of his.
He wrapped his arms around you subconsciously, humming in response, waiting for you to carry on.
"I didn't think I could ever find true, unconditional love, maybe that it didn't exist or no one would love me like that, but I have you now. I think you're my daylight," you explained, looking at his chest instead of at him.
"Daylight, hmm?" He asked, slightly confused. He reached for your face again, making you look at him as you explained.
"Daylight, yeah. Light after darkness, type of thing- it's embarrassing. You've just- you're my light, my happiness if you will, and you've saved me from all the bad things, the darkness, and you're always here for me and I- I can't explain it, I can't explain truly how I feel about you, there's not enough time or words, but yeah. Daylight," you rambled, trying to turn away but being moved back by Mason's hand.
He couldn't think of an answer, not one that could do the way he was feeling justice. All he could do was pull you closer and kiss you, touching his lips to yours and pressing himself as close as he could get to you.
All the love he amounted for you sat inside him, tingling inside his stomach, clenching his lungs together, making him feel warm all over. His heart was racing, desperate to keep the moment going forever.
He was grinning so hard into your mouth he couldn't feel his cheeks; he was too giddy, too dopey to care if the kiss wasn't the most outstanding kiss that you ever had. The fact that he got to kiss you and share a moment with you was enough.
He paused his actions after a long while but still let his lips linger on yours for a moment. He kept a hand on the back of your head, making you stay close to him, he couldn't let you go - he wouldn't.
His head rested on yours and you could feel him trying to catch his breath, only so he could kiss you more. You were both left slightly disorientated, way too dazed and in awe of each other to focus.
"I love you," he promised, still trying to catch his breath, his chest moving quickly up and down under you, "S'unfair I can't tell you just how much but it's more than you could ever even think of, sweetheart."
You laughed lightly, gripping onto him and holding him as close to you as you could. "I love you so much more, Mase."
He shook his head lightly, completely disregarding your statement. "Nope. Just shut up and kiss me, pretty girl,"

chapter one
secrets i have held in my heart are harder to hide than i thought
Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: fem!reader x mason mount
summary: A one night fling that turned into the reason of your whole life, then a month of falling in love with him… until he ghosted you. Mason was never there to watch her grow, completely unaware of his daughter’s existence. It was just you and Lilian Maisie against the world until fate decided play with you and change that — now you have to face the consequences of your decision to keep him out of her life for almost five years. And also try not to fall for him again when he reveals to be the best dad to your little girl.
author: I hope you enjoy this as much as I do. Thank you for sticking around, it means a lot!

Watching her was one of your favourite things to do; the way the soft dark brown curls bounced as she swayed around the living room, the way her cheerful laugh echoed every corner of the house and those big, brown eyes sparkled with pure innocent bliss - Lily was your everything, she was your whole life and though, at first, being a young single mum terrified your entire being, she became the reason of your existence. It felt like a lifetime, but it was just four years before that day that you were sitting where your dad was, on that large and comfortable armchair, with your feet up as you stared at a tummy poking out. You remember how that was the first time after finding out you were pregnant that you went from miserable to somewhat joyous to know a tiny human was growing inside you.
FOUR YEARS BEFORE
Every little thing bothered you to the point you’d grab the first object in front of you and throw it against the wall. Your hormones were everywhere, the nausea was unbearable and you knew it was a matter of time until you’d find yourself with another IV fluid bag hanging on your bedside. Four months of what had already earned the first place on your “lifetime worst experiences” list, when it shouldn’t be like this. You should be happy, and thrilled, planning your days and making a list of potential boy and girl names for your child. But you weren’t, considering this was far from what you expected of your first pregnancy.
The long sigh that parted your lips clashed against the daunting yet peaceful silence that took over Foxwoods House the minute your parents went out for grocery shopping after you insisted you’d be fine on your own for a few hours and how much you needed it. Even if they meant well and were just making sure you were healthy enough to be on your feet, all the attention could be suffocating, though their attention wasn’t focused only on you. Though exhausted, you tried your best to focus on relaxing once your eyes closed.
Breathe in, breathe out.
Slowly, you felt lighter, your body finally relaxing on your dad’s favourite armchair, and, unconsciously, your hands rested on your stomach and your eyes shot open when you noticed that there was something there that wasn’t the last time you touched it. Avoiding any kind of touching, talking, and staring at yourself in the mirror had been your way of coping with your new reality, even if it wasn’t a smart way of doing it. It wasn’t easier, either.
“Oh hello,” you whispered, poking your tummy with your index finger. “I don’t think you can even listen to me yet, but… can you bear with me, peanut? Hm?” Brushing your thumb against your skin, your eyes burned with tears. You wanted things to work out, you wanted that kid to be born into a healthy environment even if it included just you — of course, your parents would be there, but in the end, you’d be a single mum. The idea of it terrified you but, deep down, you could feel some courage sparkling.
“I’m still new to this mummy thing, and I hope you’ll like me once you’re here with us, running around… but I promise you that I'll do my best.”
Finally, you allowed the tears you were holding to fall, wetting your cheeks as you sniffed and quietly rubbed your stomach. For the first time since the pregnancy test was positive, you felt love engulfing you most softly. You felt peace and a strong motivation to fight for your child’s happiness. You’d be their best friend, the first person they’d think of whenever they needed something or whenever they were happy, sad, or confused. You’d be their everything because, as you watched that tiny bump, you realised they were your everything too.
PRESENT DAY
The final whistle blow and the loud groan that parted your dad’s lips brought you back from memories of the early and hard pregnancy days.
It wasn’t the first time you watched your dad so upset that England was out of another World Cup, but this time Lily mimicked everything he did and as torturing as it was to watch, it was also funny. Both clapped their hands in front of the TV, mumbling words of encouragement to the squad though they obviously couldn’t hear it. Lily was dressed in her England kit, one of the many your dad bought her along with Arsenal kits, as he was a die-hard gunner and used to take her to most of the matches with him. There was no way Lily would grow up without football being such a huge part of her life. It was part of her and who she was, it was in her DNA - even if no one but you and your best friend knew about that.
Watching the scene in front of you became harder when he was on your dad’s big flat screen, and though your daughter was mimicking her grandad, she was the spitting image of him. Her dad.
For the past four years, you’ve found yourself doing your best to run from him but Mason Mount was pretty much everywhere you looked, being Chelsea’s star boy and part of the England squad. It hurt you, it opened a wound that you fought so hard to heal but he had to come back to haunt you now and then. You’d turn your look away, turn off the TV, and ignore his face whenever you drove by Stamford Bridge - but he was everywhere. He was on Lily’s face, bottom nose, and all. And, as far as you reminisced of his laugh, hers sounded identical.
It hurt, it cut deep, and it made you swallow hard the horrible sensation that effortlessly took full control of you - so you had to inhale and exhale at a slow pace as soon as your sight blurred. Mason not being there for her still made you feel vulnerable, and not good enough for your daughter for you often felt like you were keeping her from being happier as she was always mentioning how much she wished her daddy was around, and you had either to make up dumb excuses or distract her with something else. You’d often listen to her through the baby monitor, crying out in whispers for her daddy - it always sounded like she was praying.
The warmth of your mum’s touch, softly squeezing your arm, made you feel slightly better and safe. She didn't know who Lily's dad was, but she knew what went through your mind whenever you spent too long gazing at your daughter. Not knowing the full story never stopped her from fully understanding you - she was a mum too.
“I'm alright,” you reassured her before she could say something, and watched her lips form a delicate line as a reaction to your words. She knew you were far from being alright - with Lily asking more questions than ever about her dad - but didn’t know what to say. It was something she’s never been through and thought you were both brave and a bit stupid for dealing with it all on your own, when even your dad, who wasn’t as warm as her, was entirely supportive since Lily became part of your lives. You adored them even more for being so respectful of your decisions.
“I never judged you and I never will, and I still wish you’d talk to me as you’ve always done… including anything affecting my granddaughter,” your mum confessed, doing her best to hide she was a bit upset, but failing miserably.
You nodded, moving your stare from Lily to your mum. “I see him every time I look at her, and it hurts me.”
“Because you still have feelings for him?”
“I don’t,” you were as quick as possible on clearing that question, it felt like a lifetime ago that Mason was the reason for the butterflies in your stomach and he managed to end that himself with his stupid behaviour. “It hurts me because my daughter is being deprived of a life with her father around.”
“You can always find him and tell him,” your mum moved her hand from your arm to your back, rubbing it softly.
“It’s not-” you sighed, brows furrowed, as your eyes searched for Lily again. “It’s not that simple.”
“It’s always simple, love. As a mum, you know it’s always simple when it comes to making your child happy.”
Always the optimist, your mum pecked your cheek before leaving you alone with your thoughts. Not knowing the truth never stopped her from giving you advice that’d often feel right, but so wrong at the same time. If Mason was any other normal guy, you would’ve let him know the day Lily was born and you held her in your arms for the first time, seeing how much she looked like him.
You would’ve let him know the day she took her first steps.
You would’ve let him know the day she screamed her first word - a loud, cheerful “goal” when Arsenal scored, making your dad the proudest grandad in the world.
You would’ve let him know the day she kicked a ball for the first time.
You would’ve let him know because you’ve always wanted Mason around, simply for being around and raising that beautiful girl as best as you both could. But there you were, doing it practically alone.
“Mummy,” Lily woke you up from your thoughts, softly pulling your sweater while curiously staring at you with her big hazel eyes. She giggled when you took her in your arms, sitting her on the kitchen counter with her little legs around your waist. “Are you sad it’s not coming home?”
“Well, baby… I’m a bit sad because grandpa is sad,” you watched her pout, nodding in agreement, as you played with her hair around your fingers. “Why don’t you go there and give him all the smooches in the world, huh? Maybe that’ll cheer the old man up a bit.”
Lily nodded again, a bit more cheerfully this time and you put her back down, watching her rush to her grandpa he nestled her in his arms as she kissed his face and squeezed his cheeks with her chubby hands. The truth was you were more than glad that the torture was finally over, with no more of him on your TV while your dad proudly cheered for England and, consequently, for Mason whenever his gorgeous face showed up.
For the rest of the weekend, you enjoyed the cosiness of Foxwoods House and that included long walks with Lily, baking with your mum, and playing poker with your dad while you shared half a bottle of whiskey - one of many in his collection.
Although you loved London, a life away from the city’s fuss had always been your goal, even more so after Lily was born so you’d often take advantage of your parents owning that huge estate and drive to Cotswolds to enjoy a few quiet days with your girl. You could tell how much she loved, always bringing up that there were just two things that’d make your getaway even more perfect: her daddy and a puppy. Usually, you’d just give her a smile as an answer and kiss her forehead, but on your drive back to London you thought about how Foxwoods would be such a great place for some family time.
On Monday, you quietly walked into the usual warmth of your office, only nodding at a few colleagues who cheerfully welcomed you back after a disappointing weekend for football fans. You spotted Willow, your childhood friend, walking towards you with two mugs of the steamy coffee you always shared in the morning in each hand, and a smile splattered on her face - to which you frowned, because Willow had never been the one in a good mood in the morning.
“I’m guessing you had a fun weekend?” You asked, taking a mug from her hand and closing the door behind you as she made herself comfortable by sitting in the armchair by the window.
“You’d know if you returned my calls, Y/n.”
“And you know how my dad is,” you shrugged, feeling your body happily welcome the hot liquid. A large dose of caffeine and chatting with your best friend was always the best way to start the day, and you were lucky to work in the same place as he – just a few doors away as you two were responsible for different departments at the Swedish fintech you’ve been working for a couple of years. “No phones allowed when it’s Foxwoods weekend unless it’s-”
“An emergency,” she chuckled. “I know, I know.”
“So?” You raised an eyebrow, waiting for her to tell you whatever she had to tell, as you lazily checked a few emails.
“I was feeling a bit bored on Saturday morning and decided to go to Paris.”
“Willow, you’re so fucking random…” You sighed and she rolled her eyes.
“Met with Arthur there, and we spent the weekend together.”
Arthur, her longtime french fling, the idiot who only showed up when he wanted something from poor delusional Willow.
“Well, can’t say I’m surprised, because I’m not,” you moved your eyes from the laptop screen to your friend, who still had that same smile on her face. “Why are you so happy, though?”
“I met his parents.”
“He introduced you to them?”
Then, when she sighed, you knew it wasn’t as she wanted you to believe and she was making a fool of herself again for a guy who just wasn’t interested. This time, there wasn’t a single trace of pride for being right, because it meant your best friend was now hurt. Deeply hurt. You watched her nervously chew the inside of her cheeks, sipping her coffee and looking out through the window as if there was anything fascinating outside.
“Hey,” you called her, bright green eyes looking at you. “Lily’s ballet recital is right before Christmas and rehearsals start today. Come with me.”
Finally, she flashed you a smile; one you loved seeing for a sad Willow made no sense as she’s always been the happiest person in your life, always cheering up everyone and looking after people while you looked after her, so she’d be fine too. The bond you two shared became stronger when you found out you were pregnant, and Willow had been there since day one - appointments, baby shopping, days you spent at the hospital due to HG¹, and sleepless nights when it hit you that Lily would grow up without her dad around. There was no one like Willow, she was the sister you never had.
You wrapped up work a bit earlier than usual so you’d, for once, make it in time for your daughter’s ballet class. It wasn’t unusual for your mum to pick her up from school and take her to classes, and even so, sometimes you’d arrive 10 minutes after all the mums had picked up their little ones once class was over. It made you feel horrible seeing Lily there, anxiously waiting for you, and getting overly enthusiastic when spotted you arriving at the studio - she’d smooch your entire face, and tell you how much she loved and missed you.
“Mummy,” she called you, squeezing your hand as you walked to the studio with Willow on your side. Looking down, you smiled so she’d continue. “Ice cream after ballet?”
How could a wrong choice in life guide you to this? To her? Almost four years later and it still overwhelmed you, because you never believed you had that unique thing that’d make you a mum, but somehow, you managed it just fine — with extra help from your family and friends, unquestionably, but at the end of the day it was just you and Lily. And her fish, of course. The only pet you allowed her to have for now, so she’d start to have some sort of notion of commitment.
“We’ll see about that, peanut, but if we go then it’s on auntie Willie.” Lily giggled as a reply, entertained by the funny scowl on her godmother’s face for she knew that auntie Willie would do anything and everything she asked.
“I’ll pay if you eat dinner first, Lils!” Willow said, and Lily sighed in return, as if her life was the most complicated she now had a tough decision to make.
She remained in silence for a while as you chatted about work with Willow, an important deadline approaching right before Christmas break and she knew someone would have to interfere or the firm would lose such a significant client like Nike. You thought that was the issue of making partnerships with companies that had their marketing branch and the ideas had to match.
That gentle hand squeeze was there again, Lily looking at you with her big, brown eyes that softened your entire being. “Mummy,” she called. “Can Summer come too if we go get ice cream?”
Summer, the ballet bestie you never met because you always dropped Lily at the studio later than the other kids normally arrived, and she was gone before you went back to the studio to pick up your daughter. You only knew what she looked like because one day Lily came home with a cute Polaroid picture of the two of them, taken by Miss Albright, the teacher. Your heart melted a little at how precious that was, the two girls clutching each other, tiny chubby arms around each other and big smiles on their faces — you could even swear they looked alike, maybe that was a bestie thing.
“First I have to meet her mummy and make sure she trusts me, so she feels safe to leave her baby girl with me.”
“Just like you do, mummy?” You nodded, a big proud smile on your lips at how easily Lily understood things. “My legs are tired.” She said, completely changing the subject and stretching both arms at you so you could carry her but Willow was faster and nestled Lily in her arms.
“A ballerina with tired legs? Oh my,” Willow faked a shocked expression, hands on her chest as she gasped, getting a cheerful giggle from Lily. You loved how she closed her eyes and tilted her head back whenever she laughed - your chest clenched at her adorableness.
“I played footy at school today, auntie.” Lily covered her mouth with her small hand, letting out a loud yawn. Your heart skipped a beat for a second, sharing a look full of meaning with your best friend as Lily laid her head on Willow’s shoulder and closed her eyes. “Mr. Martin said I’m good.” She mumbled.
Of course, she was good. How could she not be good at something that was part of who she was?
Willow gave you a comforting smile, knowing how much this could affect your mood, as you walked in silence into the ballet studio; a smiley Miss Albright welcomed you, gently pinching Lily’s chubby legs with a kind smile curling her lips. She was the most loving and understanding lady.
Lily quickly awakened from her short nap, impatiently wiggling her legs in the air so Willow would put her down. She stormed out to meet her classmates after blowing you and Willow a kiss - you left out a soft gasp, allowing the blissful effect that your daughter had on you to fully embrace you. Lily was constantly full of energy, always beaming, brightening the room every time she walked in.
Like her daddy, who had no idea about her existence.
A soft poke on your shoulder woke you up from your thoughts and you turned around to face a heavily pregnant woman accompanied by, apparently, her mum, considering they looked a lot like each other. They were both smiling at you, and the youngest pointed at your daughter, who was now clutching a little girl.
“Which of you are Lily’s mum?”
“Guilty,” you raised a hand, eyebrows softly furrowed as you let out a giggle. Taking another peek at the two little ballerinas, you frowned at how indeed they looked alike. It was easy to identify that one. “I assume that’s Summer, and you’re her mum?”
“Jasmine, but you can call me Jaz,” you shook hands, smiling at each other. She introduced you to Debbie, her mum, and you introduced her to Willow who quickly engaged in a cheerful chat with the woman.
“I’m Y/n. It’s lovely to finally meet you, Lily just won’t shut up about Summer,” you giggled, thinking of the never-ending talks about how your daughter’s ballet bestie is the… best.
“She’s Summer’s current favourite person,” Jasmine said, linking her arm to yours and walking you to where the other mums were. That sudden loving gesture made a soft smile curl the sides of your lips - you weren’t friends with other mums, especially the ones from school. They were so hard to bond and you missed having someone else - who wasn’t your mum - who’d understand your daily routine of wonderful moments and struggling as a mum.
It was easy being around them, your mum arrived at the studio shortly before class started, and quickly bonded with Debbie about the wonders of being a grandmother; how they both spoiled the girls and were spoiled by them.
The rehearsal went on fine, full of the cuteness of 4-year-old girls in baby pink tutus. You were happy to be there, so you could see how happy your daughter was as she occasionally waved between clumsy pliés and pirouettes. Nonetheless, she was a natural, and you weren’t being too biased — as a ballet dancer herself, Willow made sure to point out all the right things Lily was doing. Watching Lily so focused on everything Miss Bennett said, all the instructions she gave, and how your little one did everything so clumsy yet so perfectly made your eyes burn a little with some tears. You’d still think she was the most perfect creature even if she wasn’t your daughter.
Once the rehearsal ended, you spotted Lily yawning and blinking heavily, but you knew she’d remember the ice cream. Sometimes, you couldn’t negotiate nor change the little one’s mind, and she got all that stubbornness from you.
“Mummy,” she started, and you took her in your arms, pressing soft kisses all over her face as she giggled.
“I know, my little monster. I didn’t forget your ice cream.”
When you invited your mum and best friend for dinner, they both apologised over and over, saying their time off had been exclusive to Lily’s rehearsal and they had to go — your mum, to your dad, because even after 30 years together they just couldn’t stay away from each other; and your best friend, back home, because she needed to meet her dad for dinner. That was when, kindly, Jaz invited you and Lily for Italian at a place she loved; when your daughter looked up to you with her best puppy eyes and the biggest pout she could pull off, you couldn’t say no. Lily knew very well that most of the time she did that you’d quickly say yes, the dimples showing up when she pouted made your heart melt.
And you were also looking forward to seeing your daughter and her new bestie interacting as if they were two adults, which happened, for your amusement. Though you were engaged in chatting with Jaz and Debbie, who were two sweethearts, you couldn’t help but feel completely hypnotised by how Lily behaved throughout the whole time you spent at the restaurant; she shared a colouring book with Summer and they both talked about school, ballet shoes, and pink tutus.
Bonding with the two women was easy, especially with Jaz. You found out that Lily and Summer almost shared a birthday, with your daughter being just a few days older than hers; that you both had big families although you were an only child and she had three siblings. Debbie quickly explained that the siblings part was a bit complicated, but easy to understand, and in the end they were all family; she didn’t get into a detailed explanation, though, which you didn’t mind for it kept you from having to share something just because they shared too, although you noticed some curiosity sparkle in Debbie’s eyes when you mentioned it was just you and Lily living in a brand new flat that had more space. Your father kept teasing you about giving his favourite girl a puppy for Christmas, and you knew it’d end up in more than just teasing so you’ve decided that more space would be needed considering Lily wanted a golden retriever.
“Don’t forget about Moana, mummy!” The fish, your daughter remembered, to which you just nodded with a smile on your lips.
You watched Lily having her strawberry ice cream as if there was no tomorrow, and you could only hope all that sugar wouldn’t keep her from falling asleep right after you bathed her or it’d be a long night trying to calm her down from a sugar rush. Jaz was going through the same struggle as she watched Summer; you noticed her eyes widening a bit but she giggled each time her daughter hummed in delight with one spoon after another of her chocolate ice cream.
When you said your goodbyes after sharing the bill, and before you left, Debbie kindly invited you and Lily over on Saturday for lunch, so the girls could spend a day together, playing, something they didn’t get the chance to do yet.
“Jaz will have her mocktail and I can make us some mojitos,” the woman said; Lily looked at you again with her pleading brown eyes, blinking heavily as she let out a long yawn.
“We’d love that, Debbie.”
After exchanging phone numbers and Instagram accounts, you went in different directions of the street - you wanted to squeeze both Lily’s and Summer’s cheeks when they blew each other a kiss after a long hug. Happiness washed over you seeing that it wasn’t hard for your daughter to make friends, and bond, even if not having her father around clearly affected her behaviour sometimes, often noticing that she, sometimes, was a bit needy and clingy - but also extremely kind and sweet.
Soon, you were home and while Lily went straight to her bedroom to pick clean pyjamas, you quickly fed her fish and met your daughter already waiting for you in the bathroom; ready for her bubble bath. Even clearly tired, she chatted the whole time, telling you how much she enjoyed dinner and that Summer was her best friend in the world - she also thanked you for being an incredible mummy and allowing her to spend Saturday with her friend, which made you swallow a sob at how adorable your daughter was. Raising that wonderful little girl mostly on your own was tough, but moments like this were proof of the fantastic job you were doing.
Thankfully, after properly tucked under the covers, Lily mumbled an ‘I love you mummy’ and quickly fell asleep. You gently pressed your lips against her forehead, getting a sigh from her in return as if she had been waiting for it; when you walked into your bedroom, flickering heavily as you yawned, Lily was already snoring lightly - you chuckled at the baby monitor. You showered, switched into your pyjamas, and decided to check on your social media once you found yourself after the covers: there was a text message from Jaz but it was too late for a reply, and she also followed you on Instagram; you smiled at a picture of Summer in a pink tutu and of another one where the little one was between her parents, a wide smile, and her tiny arms was over their shoulders.
But you wish you had never met Jasmine, or that your daughter had never met Summer at all when you found a picture of her entire family at a stadium, all of them dressed in England jerseys and a familiar face in the middle was on your screen when you decided to zoom in on the photo. You dropped your phone on your stomach, feeling your mouth instantly drying and your eyesight blurring - if you weren’t already in bed, the weakness you felt spreading from your legs through your body would bring you to the floor.
Breathe, Y/n.
That was Mason, and it didn’t take you much to realise who precisely he was. Or who Jasmine was.
Mason was her brother.
Not believing what your eyes just saw, you went back to scrolling through her Insta and you felt your whole body trembling now, tears filling your eyes and rolling freely down your cheeks; there were a bunch of pictures with him, of the entire family on Christmas, of him with Summer. You felt the urge to vomit, your heart pounding against your chest so loud you could nearly listen to it.
Mason was her damn brother.
Mason, the father of your daughter.
Lilian Maisie.

Car sex
Pairing: Mason Mount x girlfriend! Reader
Warnings: this is just smut so if you don’t like it you shouldn’t read it.
Summary: You and Mason were horny and that leads to the car sex.
Tumblr media
Mason and I were horny and this was obvious to everyone who was watching us because since we arrived at the party we couldn't keep our hands off each other, if we weren't kissing we were in some corner laughing at the dirty things that Mason was whispering in my ear.
As soon as we left the party, we headed toward Mason's car and as soon as he starts to drive us home his hand stops on my thigh, he begins to give it a gentle squeeze and I place my hand on the back of his neck, running my nails lightly.
He takes his eye off the road, looking at me, while he raises his hand a little more getting close to my pussy, I start kissing his neck and biting his ear lobe, making a trail of kisses all over his face.
Soon he stops the car in some kind of abandoned parking lot, takes off his seat belt putting his hand on my neck pulling me for a kiss.
I feel him move his seat away a little while still kissing me and he puts his other hand on my ass, with the space he gave me I sit on his lap taking my hair off my shoulder and leaving it on one side.
On top of him I start to make back and forth movements and roll over on top of him, the one hand that was on my ass ended up on my waist assisting me in the movements, when I start to change the speed going faster and starting to decrease the intensity, I feel his hard cock close to my pussy.
I stop kissing and he takes off my dress and since I was without a bra I am half naked on top of him, soon his two hands are squeezing my breasts while I still make the movements on top of him.
“Baby, get in the back seat.” he says “please.”
I did what he asked and I get in the back seat as he starts to take off his shirt and pants, getting into his underwear.
I am half lying on the seat when he pulls my panties aside and begins to make circular movements on my clit little by little while kissing my breasts.
My moans are low and incoherent when he penetrates me with one finger and begins to thrust into me faster, I place both hands on his back and begin to scratch him lightly and when he penetrates me with the second finger my moan gets a little louder.
Because of the limited space in the car, the movements we have are minimal but soon he begins to press on my clit with his thumb making me moan even louder.
I'm so wet that his fingers go in and out easily and he increases the pace.
When I realize that I am close to my climax, he stops and dries the sweat from my face and keeps running his hand over it.
“Sit on the bench.” I said in his ear.
“Why?”
“Don't ask, just do it.
He does as I tell him, as soon as he sits down I begin to lower my panties.
I sit on top of him and finally his dick is inside me, I begin to move up and down while he stares at me non-stop.
I begin to make synchronized movements, going up and down faster and then slower.
Soon I stop and begin to make back and forth movements and hear Mason’s low moans.
He holds my waist tightly and begins to thrust hard, while we both moan together.
The noise of each thrust gets louder and louder, and I put both hands on his shoulder, and when I start to cum he goes even deeper and faster slapping my ass.
He stops thrusting fast and I go back to doing back and forth movements, when I feel that he had also cum I gradually stop the movements until I stop completely.
I begin to kiss him, the kiss was hot and horny for both of us, his hands that before were on my waist now go all over my body stopping at my hair and giving it a light tug.
I stop kissing and take a bite of my own lip as I go up and down again but he holds my waist tightly.
“Kneel down on the seat facing the back of the car and thrust your ass at me, now.
I do as he asked, at first he runs his hand all over my pussy and after that he runs his dick through it rubbing it against me.
But before I can think of anything else, he gets inside of me again.
Now with gentler movements he runs his hand along the entire length of my spine, the movements start to become a medium speed and he grabs my hair with one hand.
He intersperses the movements between smooth and medium for quite a while.
Until he strokes me hard going faster and faster, squeezing my own breasts while he is fucking me, the next thing I know he is pulling me closer to him and my back is against his chest wet with sweat.
We come together in our second time of the evening and he puts his face on my neck kissing it lightly.
Until we cum again he pulls out of me and sits down on the bench and I do the same, lying on his chest.
We spend some time recovering, until our breathing becomes less rapid and I start looking for my dress.
He puts on his pants and hands me the sweatshirt he was wearing.
“Put it on because it's not over yet, we're just going to change the scenario.
I put on his sweatshirt while he sits in the driver's seat and I go to the passenger seat.
I remove my panties and place them on his lap.
In all the time we had to drive Mason was jerking me off while one hand was on the steering wheel, the other was on me.
As soon as we arrived at his house, we went straight inside.
I take off the sweatshirt I was wearing, standing naked in his living room, I go up to him and pull him in for a kiss, he has me cross my legs around his waist and he sits down on the couch.
As soon as we stop the kiss, I take off his shirt and pants along with his underwear.
And he lays me down on the couch and we intertwine our hands, while he begins to slowly fuck me again.
Soon he stops and I keep moving while he stares into my eyes.
Mason lets out a low moan and I see that he has come again and I am almost getting there.
He starts pounding me faster until I cum again.
He lays down on top of me to control his breathing and a few minutes later, he picks me up on his lap and we head for the bathroom to take a shower.
As soon as we get out of the long shower, he hands me a large shirt of his and I see that the bed is ready for us to go to sleep.
As soon as we do, he pulls me to lie on his chest and he begins to caress my back, while I stroke his hair.
I look up into his face and he gives me a smile and kisses my forehead, the tip of my nose and kisses my mouth.
I start to go around the tattoo that he has on his ribs and I feel the caressing on my back slowly stopping and the next thing I know he is sleeping with a cute little peck.
I take advantage of this and give him another kiss and one on his chest also falling asleep quickly.

baby bump - m.m
a/n: dad!mason makes my heart melt. short but sweet, i combined the two, hope this is okay! enjoy reading 🩰
also i have no mason requests so please send some through!! 🫶🏼
Tumblr media
you and Mason were sat on the sofa together watching some random tv program which you weren’t paying attention too, you had been feeling nauseous recently and you just wanted to be snuggled up with Mason now more than ever.
being seven months pregnant didn’t help, you felt like a whale sitting next to Mason. this seventh month had been really hard. you’d been nauseous, had awful back pain and your baby had decided to start kicking your insides constantly which was very uncomfortable.
funny thing was the baby only kicked when Mason was away from you. Mason had never felt her little kicks ever and he was annoyed that she would only kick when he was either at football or he had gone out with his mates. he tried to spend as much time at home as possible so he could be with you incase anything happened.
you were resting your head on his chest, eyes closed as you tried to rid the feeling of sickness. he had you bundled up in a blanket and his arms around you. his hand was resting on your stomach which was now protruding through the blanket. he loved it, it showed that your baby was grown which meant he was closer to meeting his little girl.
“how you feeling sweet girl?” he ran a hand through your hair, massaging your scalp softly as he tried to soothe the migraine you had. “i’m okay mase” his hand moved back to your belly rubbing small patterns all over it.
“do you want me to get you anything? some water with ice? food? anything at all” you just shook your head “no thanks baby, i just want to be next to you. please don’t get up” your eyes were still closed meaning you were practically sleep talking to him right now but he didn’t care, he wanted you to be okay.
“i won’t leave you honey, im not going anywhere” he kissed your forehead again. he had been so excited when you told him you were pregnant but now he couldn’t help feeling bad because you felt sick all the time. he just wanted to take the pain away from you and give it to himself so you would be okay.
you were on the brink of sleep, milliseconds away from falling into dream land when Mason shouted out making you jolt awake. “oh baby i’m sorry” you looked up at him confused as to why he just shouted out. “i forgot you were sleeping i’m sorry honey”
“why did you shout?” you croaked your eyes squinting as you adjusted to the lights. he kissed your forehead and smiled at you brightly. “the baby kicked, i felt her kick finally” your heart melted, he had never looked so excited. “aww mase, she kicked for you” he pulled you back into him, his hand never leaving your belly incase your daughter kicked for him again.
“if she kicks again i promise i wont shout, ill let you sleep honey i was just in shock” he kissed your forehead a few times as you got comfortable again so you could sleep. “it’s alright mase” you hugged him closer and closed your eyes, Masons hand rubbing circles on your belly.

PART THREE
“How do you think the girls will react when we tell them?” Jaz questioned, sipping her chamomile tea.
“Knowing Lily, she’ll be over the moon.” You watched Jaz sigh deeply, a wide smile spread across her lips. She knew the answer but you could tell she needed some sort of reassurance. “I’m an only child, so besides school and ballet, she spends most of her time with adults. With my dad, especially. It’ll be great for her.”
“It’s the same for Sum. My sister lives in Australia with her husband and two kids, and it’ll be great for Summer to have a cousin she can see anytime she wants.”
Cousins. It still made you catch your breath how fast this was going although only Jaz, Sam and your friend Willow knew the truth. Perhaps fast was good and you wouldn’t feel like being tortured trying to figure out the best moment to drop the truth.
Jaz ordered another slice of chocolate cake for herself and asked for an extra fork so she’d share it with you, although you made it clear you tried to keep a strict diet since you gave birth to Lily, with your schedule sometimes being too tight to hit the gym every day. You enjoyed this bond you were building, you could see Jasmine slowly becoming someone you could trust with your eyes closed and, afterall, she was your daughter’s aunt. There was so much to build around this, so much trust and, eventually, love - but you could see it, clear as the day. You could see her becoming one of your best friends and also someone Lily could count on.
“He’s coming home from Dubai tonight, you know.” Resting both hands on her bump, Jaz carefully watched your reaction to the news. “And he wants to surprise Summer by picking her up after ballet tomorrow, so…”
“I don’t want him to see us yet.” You swallowed the knot that formed on your throat, taking a sip of your strawberry tea hoping its warmth would comfort you. Jasmine nodded, knowing where you were coming from.
“Make up something and don’t bring Lily, and show up for lunch at my place on Saturday. Mase usually goes there in the afternoons.”
“Saturday afternoon, then?” Lowering your gaze, you rubbed your eyes with your palms and before you could rest your hand on the table again, Jaz reached out to hold it.
“You’ll be fine. Sam can take the girls out, I’ll be around, but you have to tell him.” She squeezed your hand and you just nodded. “We should go now.”
Driving in London wasn’t your favourite thing to do unless there was music on and you had Lily giggling at your terrible singing skills - you took an alternative and longer way home so the music wouldn’t be the only sound that was making you happy. You watched through the rearview how Lily moved her shoulders up and down to the beat, making funny faces to herself, thinking you weren’t watching at all when there was really nothing you enjoyed more than seeing how your daughter could enjoy herself. When you finally arrived home, Lily ran off to her room and went back holding her towel and unicorn robe on each hand, knowing that’d be enough for you to know she wanted a bubble bath.
“You know what I was thinking, Lils?” You asked, massaging her head as you breathed in the lovely smell of baby shampoo. Lily kept her eyes closed but softly hummed a ‘hmm’. “Girls day tomorrow. I’m missing spending time with my favourite girl.”
“School, mummy.” Loving how responsible she was for a girl her age, you kissed her wet cheek before you started to rinse her hair.
“I know, sweetheart, don’t worry about that. Focus on the fun.”
And she did.
Lily woke up first the next day, snuggled under the duvet with you and you two stayed there, eyes closed, for at least an hour. By how peaceful her breathing was, you could tell she took a nap even if all the little girl wanted was to enjoy the day as much as she could. The plan was not leaving the flat and just staying in, watching Disney and Pixar films, cooking her the most delicious spag bol just so you’d see those chubby cheeks stained with red sauce, baking her chocolate chip biscuits and cuddling on the sofa all day. Only when you were watching Moana and Lily started yawning from waking up too early, and she snuggled in your arms hiding her face against your chest, was that you realised it was the last day of just Lily and mummy. A new person was about to walk into your lives and turn it upside down but the truth was that Mason should’ve always been part of it.
On her last birthday, once everyone left, Lily confessed that her birthday wish was having her daddy with her. Then, on Christmas, she asked again, hoping he’d come. You knew she’d be happy and Lily never worried you, she was too wise for a girl her age.
What got you wondering for hours was what kind of dad he’d be? With such an inconsistent and busy schedule, would he be there for her? Would he love and accept her?
Would he take her away from you?
No.
Pulling her closer as you noticed that Lily was now peacefully sleeping, you paused the film and closed your eyes as the softness of her dark brown hair touched your face. You had your arms around her, protecting her as you’ve been doing since you found out she was growing inside you. No one would ever take that kid from you and you hoped Mason wouldn’t dream of trying because you weren’t up for a fight that everyone would end up losing. You just wanted him to be the dad she needed so much, something your dad would never be able to because it wasn’t the same. You only woke up again when Lily started to move in your arms and tiny hands cupped your jaw as she kissed your entire face.
“Sleepy mummy.” Lily kissed your eyelids, the tip of your nose and softly squeezed your cheeks. “I’m hungry.”
“Spag bol?”
You watched her jump on the sofa and perfectly land on the floor before running and spinning around the flat, happily nodding to your suggestion. It was funny, but it wasn't unusual for you seeing her so happy and so full of energy. With your hair up in a messy bun, you made your way to the kitchen with Lily on your feet - she raised both arms so you could lift her and put her on the chair next to the counter. She patiently waited for some fruits that you perfectly cut in small cubes, it was usually her pre lunch snack. You giggled at the ‘mhmm yummy’ she hummed and, watching her as you prepared the sauce, you thought what her reaction would be. Not only towards Mason, but mostly towards you even if this wasn’t about you.
Would she hate you? Would she stop talking to you?
Would she want to leave and stay with her dad?
No.
For a moment, you wanted to take your daughter and run away. That same feeling of you feeling suffocated creeping in again, pulling you out of that comfort zone you’ve been in for the past four years of yours and Lily’s life. Things would be different now and you could only hope it was for the better because that’s what Lily could bring into people’s lives - nothing but good things.
“Is it yummy, kid?” You had a smile curling the sides of your lips as you watched her devour her spaghetti, some red sauce stains on her cheeks, making Lily the most adorable sight you’ve seen in the longest time. She cheerfully nodded at you, blowing a kiss.
“So much, mummy. Thank you!” With your index finger, you poked her dimple and pulled away a string of dark brown hair, putting it behind her ear.
“Should we go for a bubble bath and then have dessert?” Wiggling her chubby legs, Lily nodded and clapped her hands once she finished her meal, and then raised one of her hands so you could give her a high five - which you obviously did, there was nothing you wouldn’t do for that girl.
For the rest of the day, it was just you having the most fun. You two baked and had the chocolate chip biscuits - she asked to keep some for Summer, which you agreed - and watching NatGeo, one of her favourite things to do, but you couldn’t fully focus on whatever the man on the TV said about the african elephants daily routine because your mind was somewhere else. On someone else, actually.
You were going to see Mason for the first time since you tried to tell him about Lily and that definitely opened some old wounds, it brought the hurt back even if that was also one of the happiest days of your life. You remembered how having Lily’s dad around, it didn’t matter who he was, would’ve made such a huge difference during your pregnancy… how it would’ve made such a huge difference each day since she was born. Yes, you should’ve insisted, maybe - but he should’ve let you talk. Mason was also to blame for Lily not having her dad around, and you knew there were bigger chances of it all turning into a situation where you’d point your fingers at each other, finding someone to blame, instead of just being there for her. That’s why you went to bed repeating to yourself that you wouldn’t let it happen, that you’d be there for Lily even if, someday, she pushed you away.
And again, Mason Mount was there to haunt you in your dreams.
When you woke up the next day, earlier than you should have when you took your phone to check the time, you noticed there were a few texts from Willow wishing you the best of luck today and that she’d be there for whatever you needed, that Lily couldn’t have a better mum - one that always fought so hard to see her happy even if it meant pushing your own happiness away.
You didn’t want to wake up your daughter so you stayed there, in bed, as if the ceiling was the most interesting thing in the world. Maybe you could decide on something to wear? Deep down, you wanted to look good and show him you’ve been just fine all these years - as if he’d even care. Silly.
You decided to text Jaz.
Tumblr media
You were in silence for a few seconds when you answered the call, the two of you hearing each other’s breath, trying to let today’s events sink in and allowing it to become a reality rather than your daily meetings for tea over the week. It was real now, you were only a few hours away from telling Mason that he had a daughter and Jasmine was pretty much your partner in crime. It still overwhelmed you the fact she was on your side and, not once, pointed a finger at you and your decisions - you knew it came from the fact she was a mum too.
Finally, she told you how things went with Mason the day before. Jaz said she had to tell him a lie, asking him to come over again in the afternoon and spend the day with Summer because Sam would be out with the boys and she was too tired to spend the day alone. You thanked her, multiple times, making sure she’d forever know how grateful you were for all the support and you got a sniff in return, with Jaz blaming mostly the pregnancy hormones for feeling emotional. You said your goodbyes when you heard Lily’s voice calling you from the electronic babysitter.
“Good morning, peanut.” You said with a smile, watching her stretching up her arms and legs with a groan, puffy eyes and messy hair making your heart melt. “Hungry?”
“Mhmm. Can I have pancakes, mummy?”
“Absolutely, love.” Sitting on her bed, you cradled Lily in your arms, lips brushing her forehead. “You’re spending the day with Summer and her daddy today.”
Still sleepy, she reacted to the news with a little leg wiggle and gave you the tightest morning hug.
As you prepared her breakfast, you were still on the ‘this is the last time I’m doing this where it’s just us’ roll from the day before. After today, you hoped Mason would make her pancakes too, you hoped the three of you could have breakfast together and make up for the lost time where Lily didn’t have parents and just a mum, instead. You knew that it didn’t matter how invested you were, how hard you tried to be the best mum in the world, a girl growing up without a dad was wrong and your own father couldn’t be the father figure she needed, even if he was a great one it wasn’t his place.
You bathed her, brushed her hair and let her go pick an outfit to spend her day with her bestie and, possibly, meet her daddy. You always let Lily pick whatever she wanted to wear after reading in a book that it helped children to be more independent and creative, although you knew that was just Lily’s personality.

“I’m not sure if I’ll be able to eat anything,” You confessed, watching Jaz place the salad bowl on the counter, gesturing you to take it to the table. “But thank you for cooking, anyway.”
Anticipating you wouldn’t behave normally, Sam was kind enough to take the girls out earlier than planned and promised to feed them with healthy stuff for lunch so the afternoon would be all about whatever they wanted. He texted Jaz some photos of Summer and Lily in the backseat of his car, making the funniest faces while they were stuck in traffic.
“I didn’t do much, to be honest.” Jaz shrugged, a soft giggle parting her lips. “Grilling some chicken is nothing.”
“It’s more than anything I’d be able to do now. How are you so calm, Jaz?”
Jasmine shook her head. “I’m not but I’m trying my best, for her.” She pointed at her bump and you felt bad for putting a pregnant woman under so much stress. “I know my brother, Y/n. It’ll be a shock at first but once he gets used to the idea… he’ll be the best dad Lily could ask for.”
You could only hope she was right. While you had lunch, your mind went back to Mason again, but this time it wasn’t what kind of dad he’d be to Lily, but more what you could expect he’d be to you too. First, you wondered if he’d recognise you, how he’d treat you first and how he’d treat you after. Memories of that night flooded your mind, the way he touched you still very much alive, making you shiver. His smile, his raspy voice praising you, his lips on your skin… all those memories were two sides of the same coin. They were great, but also a torture.
There was never a denial coming from you that you didn’t fall hard for him the following month, while the possibility of becoming parents hung above your heads. You fell even harder once Lily became a reality and, unfortunately, a lot more although he shoved you off without letting you tell him about her existence. Then, convincing yourself that Mason would never be part of your life, you put him and all that love inside an imaginary box and locked it all there. You forced yourself to turn him into something small that would never affect your life and now you had to open that box again, ignoring the fact that there was a big chance all that love was still there.
“I think he’s here, earlier than expected.” Jaz groaned when the noise of a car parking outside filled the room, looking at your untouched food with a sad look. “I know it’s cold outside, but go breathe in some cold air to clear your head.”
You just nodded, quickly getting up and just ignoring everything else as your eyes now burned with hot tears that’d roll down your cheeks soon or later. Feeling your chest clench, you hugged yourself when the cold air welcomed you. You swallowed the lump on your throat, blinking repeatedly, not wanting to cry now but when you heard Mason’s voice and laugh greeting his sister you broke down. Not sure if your body was shaking from the cold or the anxiety that washed over you, you hugged yourself even tighter finally realising that this was it, the moment it wasn’t just you and Lily anymore and this third person who  had every right to be part of her life would bring many others with him.
Breathe in, breathe out. Wipe your tears, stop shaking.
You repeated it as a mantra walking back inside, feeling more relaxed when the warmth and the smell of lavender engulfed you in what felt like a safety bubble, and feeling safe was what you needed now.
“Jaz?”
“She’s upstairs.” You gasped when you heard his voice coming from the kitchen, your only instinct was to follow it until you could see him sitting on the stool, arms supporting his body on the counter. Mason smiled when he watched you coming closer. “I’m her brother, Mason.” He stretched his arm, waiting for you to shake his hand but it quickly dropped to the side of his body. His big brown eyes narrowed at you as you chewed the inside of your cheek. “I know you.”
You nodded, a long and deep sigh parting your lips. “Hello, Mason. It’s been a while.”
“Miss champagne.” Mason shook his head apparently not believing it was you, the nickname taking you back to a night where things were just.. simple, and fun. Surprisingly, he stood up and walked towards you with arms wide open, then he simply hugged you. As if he hadn’t been an idiot the last time you had contact. “It’s lovely to see you again. How do you know my sister?”
“Our daughters take ballet class together.” You pulled away from him, intoxicated by his warmth and cologne, and he just frowned at you.
Focus.
“You have a daughter?” The fact, somehow, seemed to amuse him. His eyes widened, a big smile spread across his lips. “Oh, I think I met her on FaceTime! Lily, isn’t?”
Hearing her name coming from his lips felt like the most beautiful and poetic stab straight into your heart. You simply nodded, not being able to say anything else. Not being able to form a simple sentence, let alone tell him that Lily was his too. Still, the silence that fell between you wasn’t entirely awkward, nor uncomfortable. You noticed that as he watched you, Mason had a soft smile on his lips.
“What is it?” You asked, raising an eyebrow.
“I think about you sometimes.”
“Do tell me more about it.” You scoffed, thinking how outrageous that was but with part of you also swooning at his confession. Your attitude made a soft flush spread across his cheeks.
Yes, you should feel ashamed. Idiot.
“Declan often talks about that night and I thought about trying to find you, multiple times. To apologise for ghost-“
“You never let me tell what I had to tell.” You interrupted him, watching Mason raise an eyebrow. “That day I went to your place. You just… you were the most polite idiot on the planet. I wasn’t there because I wanted to be friends with you.”
“Oh? Do you still have something to tell me or is it too late?” His eyebrows now frowned in confusion, ironically waiting for you to finish.
You just sighed, his words slowly making your blood boil under your skin. If he behaved like this for the rest of your lives, it was going to be tough. “I went there to tell you about her, Mason.”
“About her…?”
“Lily.”
“You went to my place to tell me about Lily?” If Mason was a cartoon, there’d be some smoke hanging above his head as his brain tried to put your words together and finally realise what exactly you meant.
“Why else would her second name be Maisie other than you being her dad, Mason?”
Mason gasped, both hands firmly holding the counter as he forced himself to stand up. His jaw dropped, his brown eyes were wide open and his cheeks flushed hard. You watched as he started breathing heavier, his chest quickly moving up and down as he tried to catch a breath and calm his nerves. He was a dad.
He wasn’t sure what to say, how to react, but the feeling that clenched his chest and made him want to vomit once he realised he missed years of that girl’s life, it hit him like a punch on his throat, stomach and every other place it’d make him feel that way.
“Y-you went there,” He took a long, deep breath. “To tell me that you were p-pregnant?”
“Yes.”
There was nothing left to say, unless he asked, but Mason was in silence for a few minutes and, this time, it bothered you. Still, you tried to focus on the fact that even if this whole situation was difficult, you felt lighter after telling him. You watched him open his mouth to say something, but each time he stopped and looked away, and you could see he was hurt. Mason sniffed a few times, rubbing his eyes with the palms of his hands.
“Are you also telling me I’ve missed years of her life, Y/n?” That was a slap on your face. Lowering your gaze, not really able to look at him, you just nodded. “You should’ve insisted.”
“And you should’ve noticed how miserable I was on that day, when you politely shoved me off.”
“I-I didn’t mean to hurt you.”
“That’s not the point, Mason. From that day, it doesn’t matter how hurt I was or am, nothing really matters except for the fact that for some stupid reason, I’m only here today because life decided it’d be fun for your niece to go to the same ballet studio as my daugh-“ You sighed. “Our daughter.”
“You’d never tell me if it wasn’t for that, then?” He asked, apparently shocked.
“It was enough for me to be rejected, I don’t want Lily to go through the same.”
“I’ll pretend you didn’t say this, because you clearly don’t know me, but I would never reject my kid.”
Deep down, you wanted to smile. That was what you needed to listen, that he wouldn’t reject Lily, because in the end it was all about her. Instead, you just nodded, a sigh of relief parting your lips without you even noticing. You were both in silence again, your minds working on something to say that wouldn’t end up in a heated argument because there was no point now - it’d be a massive waste of time.
“Would you-hmm…” You cleared your throat, taking your phone from the back pocket of your jeans as Mason watched you, curiosity sparkling in his eyes. “See pictures of her? There’s videos too.”
Mason frowned, but was quick to nod and mumble several yeses as he rubbed his palms on his hoodie, clearly trying to control his emotions. You were closer to each other again, sitting on the stool. You thought it’d be a good idea to just start from the beginning, same way you did with Jaz - it worked, and you could only hope it’d have the same result with Mason.
Opening that same gallery you had only pictures of Lily, you could swear the sides of his lips were curled into the softest smile before you opened the first picture. You, the tiniest bump, in front of the mirror and looking absolutely miserable. You thought of telling how the pregnancy was, not really sure if he’d want to know, and the only idea you had to interact with Mason was giving him your phone so he could see for himself and feel comfortable to ask you whatever he wanted as you were just sitting there, feeling like you could cry any minute.
When he finally opened a picture of what you remembered as the 8th month of your pregnancy, Mason spent a few minutes just staring at it.
“Did she move a lot?” He asked, eyes glued to the picture. Mason softly brushed his thumb over it, as if he wanted to touch your bump and you had to blink multiple times or tears would roll down your cheeks at this point.
“Mhmm,” You mumbled, sniffing. Mason looked at you, moving closer when he noticed your eyes sparkling with tears. Then, in his own way of trying to comfort you, he held your pinky with his. You gulped. “She kicked a lot, right on my ribs, and so hard I had to catch my breath.”
His giggle was mostly repeated gasps, as if it somehow Lily’s kicking abilities amused him. Or made him proud. Not for kicking you, obviously… but for having a strong kick.
Then, Mason opened a video of you in the front seat of your dad’s car, clearly in pain, your mum and Willow in the back with the latter filming the whole thing - you held your bump with both hands, still smiling through the pain and, occasionally, reached for your dad’s hands. ‘Lily is ready to take over the world, everyone!’ Willow said, and the video ended with you screaming as the next contraction hit. You laughed at the memory.
“I’m sorry.” Mason simply said, rubbing the back of your hand with his thumb. “For causing you so much physical pain.”
“Don’t be silly.” You softly elbowed his rib, getting a short nod from him.
You watched him blush a little when the next pictures were mostly you inside the birthing pool. Mason thought that, despite looking exhausted and clearly in pain, you looked absolutely beautiful. But part of him couldn’t ignore how hurt he felt once he realised how much he wanted to be there, to watch his daughter make her first appearance.
His daughter.
This time, it was Mason who sniffed. Not letting your hand go, he dropped your phone on the counter and rubbed his eyes with the back of his hand, took the longest breath and took your phone again. And this time, it was you who rubbed the back of his hand with your thumb.
For the next hour, you watched him open every single video and every single photo of the Lilian Maisie gallery on your phone. There were photos there that not even you remembered existed, and you thought it was particularly emotional when you caught him pressing the heart button on a few of them. You’d make sure to send him those as soon as you could, deep down knowing he’d definitely like it.
The last photo of the gallery was one taken on her fourth birthday party at your parent’s cottage in Cotswolds, Lily had her arms over the table, supporting her body, and those big brown eyes sparkled with happiness for seeing her family there celebrating her. Mason took his own phone from his pocket and opened a picture of himself, placing your phones next to one another so you two could compare.
“Well, fuck-” You breathed. “I knew she looked a lot like you, but-”
His laugh interrupted you and it was him now, elbowing your rib. “She’s perfect.”
You nodded, a long sigh parting your lips and, then, a soft smile curling the sides of it.
“Lily is incredible, Mason. Whenever you feel ready to meet her, you’ll see how easy it is to fall in love with that tiny human, whatever kind of love you’re capable of giving her now.”
“I liked the sound of her laugh when I FaceTimed Summer and she was there.”
“It’s the sound of true happiness.”
“Tell me everything about her, Y/n. Everything I missed.”
“Gosh, Mason…” There he was again, rubbing the back of your hand, his pinky playing with yours. Such an intimate gesture, as it should be, because you both shared a life. Someone who would need both of you for as long as you’d live. “I don’t even know where to begin. But according to Jaz, she’s all you. Lily is just… happy. All the time, she has the most beautiful smile on her face and this endless energy I hardly can keep up with.”
“Sounds like me, yeah.” Mason lowered his gaze, focused on his finger playing with yours. “I wish you had insisted, Y/n.”
“I wanted to. I wanted to punch you and make you listen, but your reaction hurt me so much and those first few weeks were so hard, Mason.” You sniffed, finally feeling a single tear rolling down your cheek. “I don’t even know how I got there, I felt so weak all the time. That minimum effort of going to your place and those emotions cost me four days at the hospital.”
“I don’t know exactly how we are going to do this, but I hope you let me be part of her life.”
“Of course I let you, Mason. You don’t even have to ask. You’re all she’s been wishing for, ever since she noticed there was someone missing.”
When he was about to answer, clearly moved by the fact she missed having him in her life, Jaz walked into the kitchen with her face all red and puffy eyes from crying. He let go of your hand with a groan and it felt like the loss of contact made part of you feel empty.
“I obviously overheard the whole thing but I’m just here to say that Sam is back with the girls, they should be here any minute.”
“This is not how I want to meet her.” He turned to look at you, grabbed your phone again and added his number back on your contacts. “Text me your address and I’ll be there tonight so it can be just us.”
Not knowing what to say, you nodded, and Mason kissed Jaz’s cheeks and whispered her a ‘thank you’ before disappearing upstairs. Before Jaz could say something, you heard the front door open and the two girls rush into the house, loud laughs filling every room, warming your heart. But you also felt your head spinning with things happening so quickly.
“Muuummyyyy!” You heard Lily’s voice call you, and your first instinct was to smile, even before she showed up with arms wide open ready to hug you. It felt like after telling Mason, she looked even more like him - Lily’s whole energy screamed Mason.
“Hello, my baby,” You cooed, arms tightly wrapped around her small figure as Lily cupped your face with her hands and kissed your cheek. “Mummy’s got a surprise for you tonight. Shall we go home?”
