The Most Tsurumaki Quote Ever discussing his approach to FLCL:
Tsurumaki: Yes, as a staff member, I think that's the only way we could have done it. I remember that Masahiko Otsuka, who directed some episodes, asked me, "What do you want to do with FLCL? How far should we take it?” Something like "Evangelion" is playing a straightforward game; they're throwing a blazing fastball right down the middle of the plate that no one can hit, and that's what "Evangelion" is, or what Anno was trying to do. But with FLCL I thought, "It's okay if the pitch is slow, but I want to throw the ball right into the corner. It has to be low and outside!" If you can throw a 170 km/h fastball, you can score a strikeout even if it's right down the middle, like Evangelion does. For me though with FLCL I wanted to change it up, just graze that low, outside spot. If I could do that, I would still win (laughs).
Extreme extended metaphor ✓ using baseball ✓ that lives in the shadow of Evangelion/Anno ✓ and confuses his co-workers ✓

WaJazz: Japanese Jazz Spectacle Vol.II - Deep, Heavy and Beautiful Jazz from Japan 1962-1985 - The King Records Masters - Selected by Yusuke Ogawa (Universounds) - vinyl-only and already sold out, so enjoy these snippets
Following the highly acclaimed first volume in the series, Japanese jazz expert Yusuke Ogawa continues the WaJazz exploration with another essential collection of music that contains something uniquely Japanese — focusing this time on the King Records catalog. Featuring timeless music by Isao Suzuki, Toshiaki Yokota, Akira Miyazawa, Takeru Muraoka, Yasuaki Shimizu, Masahiko Togashi, George Otsuka, and more! "It is my great pleasure to introduce you to the second volume of the "Japanese Jazz Spectacle" series. Following the first compilation which focused on recordings from the Nippon Columbia catalog, this time we are digging into the King Records archives. It is almost impossible to capture the whole picture of Wa-Jazz in a couple of compilation albums since it is such a broad and deep genre, however, by extracting tracks from the Nippon Columbia and King Records collections - both labels having an extensive archive of jazz music - we may be able to glimpse a part of its allure and essence. This time again, I have made the music selection with this idea in mind. The music in this compilation was recorded between 1962 and 1985 and is a brief history of Japanese jazz on King Records. Listening is believing, so I hope these tracks will capture your heart and that you will enjoy the charms of Japanese jazz." - Yusuke Ogawa Yusuke Ogawa has been running the Universounds store in Tokyo since 2001, specializing in jazz and second-hand, rare, and collector records. He is also a reissue supervisor, label manager, DJ, and music writer. Known for his vast musical knowledge, eye for detail, and archival skills, Ogawa has worked on more than 250 reissues and compilations – including the highly praised Deep Jazz Reality and Project Re:Vinyl series. He is the co-author of the Wa-Jazz Disc Guide and the Independent Black Jazz of America books.

BREAKING NEWS: The 2nd Season of Panty and Stocking anime is being produced by a new Japanese Animation Studio after Gainax
(Prepared by Marco Diaz / News Reporter of Disney XD News & Urban Streets / News Intern of The Equestrian Inquirer for OneNETnews)
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA -- After a decade and a half from Season 1 in 2010... Studio TRIGGER, a prominent player in the Japanese anime industry, is making waves with its new animation studio and acquisition of the rights to Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt (PSG) from the now-defunct Gainax.

During a recent screening and anime panel by Studio TRIGGER, a reliable source obtained exclusively to OneNETnews, in partnership with Crunchyroll that a new anime project is currently in production. The event took place last Saturday afternoon (July 1st, 2023 at 1:45pm -- Pacific local time). The production reportedly includes a first trailer and key visuals.
Some may recall Anime News Network's previous expo coverage of a lost media context from an anime panel in 2022 at the Anime Expo, an annual event held inside the Los Angeles Convention Center (LACC).

This year's 50-minute anime panel at the 2023 expo will feature a re-screening of a teaser trailer to the public, followed by its release on YouTube the next day on Sunday (July 2nd, 2023).
The aforesaid anime has garnered a cult following for its blend of s*xu*l fanservice, crude language and adult humor. It is less likely to have a private lovemaking, chick magnet or both. While romance and attraction are present, the focus lies more on the comedic elements, including the characters' interactions with Miss Anarchy sisters and Briefers Rock. Action and adventure are also play a significant role in the series.
Looking beyond the current production of Season 2, Studio TRIGGER is actively brainstorming ideas for future seasons. The studio may greenlight up to 8 additional seasons or less, depending on factors such as hiring more Japanese and international freelanced animators and voice acting talent. However, the expensive nature of animation budgets and television broadcasting in Japan poses challenges during the production process.
The original anime was directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi at Gainax, with Masahiko Otsuka serving as the assistant director. Yo Yoshinari contributed concept art, Atsushi Nishigori handled the main character designs and Takahashi Taku composed the music with the TCY Crew. OneNETnews cannot independently verify the authenticity of these individuals.

To support the 2nd season of PSG, Studio TRIGGER has introduced online shopping merchandise through its official store, which was featured at this year's expo in Los Angeles, California, United States of America (U.S.A.). For viewers seeking an uncensored experience, Anime Theater-X (AT-X) television may provide the best option, as they cater to premium cable channels and paid online streaming services in Japan. Some international viewers do not really like the censored versions due to legal and personal reasons, catering to specific adult audiences.

Fans eagerly anticipate the upcoming airing of Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt (PSG) in Japan, with international releases, such as simuldubs on Crunchyroll for example, following several weeks later. The production of Season 2 is currently ongoing, immediately after the American anime expo event.
Crunchyroll is an affiliate broadcast firm on this Internet TV Station and News Organization of OneNETtv Channel & OneNETnews.

Hiroyuki Imaishi (rough research)
Hiroyuki Imaishi was born on October 4, 1971, and grew up in a middle-class family. When he was 10 years old, he watched the theatrical version of "Mobile Suit Gundam", so his love for Gundam and model kits began. In junior high and high school, Imaishi joined the Film and Visual Media Appreciation Club, and around the same time, he began practicing drawing manga. After high school, he entered an art college to study film, but he turned his attention to animation, and during that time he began making his own animations.
Imaishi took his baby steps into the anime industry after being hired by Gainax and working on the Neon Genesis Evangelion (1995) project as a douga artist. Due to his talent, he gradually gained Gainax's trust and was entrusted with more important positions. . He further worked on their next project, FLCL (Fooly Cooly) (2000), serving as storyboard artist, lead animator, animation director for most episodes, and art layout manager. In addition, he also participated in "Aim for the Top!" Diebuster (2004) served as lead animator and mechanical animation director (in episode 4).
Hiroyuki Imaishi - a fan of Studio Trigger, has always wanted to give to the "Imaishi series". This series of animations has always attracted attention with its arrogant, wanton, fancy, and extremely vital style. After a little analysis, it is not difficult to find that in most animations supervised by Imaishi, the radiant "appearance/schein" and the so-called "nonsensical" stories are composed of some basic elements (essentials). )support. These elements, from another perspective, are the logic on which those unique animated worlds can be built.
Regarding the establishment of TRIGGER, Anitama has also interviewed him separately in the past on the occasion of the release of the Chinese version of Shuben's book "Production in Progress" (アニメを事に! - Toru Aniru Amana Production in Progress). TRIGGER was established after Hiroyuki Imaishi directed "Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt" at GAINAX. Imaishi discussed the future path with Masahiko Otsuka, the current representative of TRIGGER. The result of the discussion was to challenge "the animation that I will take responsibility for in the future" and decided to become independent from GAINAX and form my own company.
Probably the biggest turning point in Imaishi Hiroyuki's career was when he was entrusted with the role of director of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (2007), a mecha anime series full of optimism and style that I'm sure everyone has at least heard of (or seen) once. Due to the success of the series, Imaishi received many art awards and his name rose to prominence, leading to him helming Panties and Garters (2010).
In 2011, after Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, Imaishi left Gainax and founded Studio Trigger with Masahiko Otsuka and Kazuya Masumoto. To date, in addition to serving as a board member of Studio Trigger, he has co-directed a number of Trigger animated series, from Kill la Kill (2013), Space Patrol Luluco (2016) to Promare (2019) and most recently Cyberpunk: Edgerunners (2022) ), all of which were successful and highly regarded by the community and critics.
Looking back at the GAINAX period, for Wakabayashi, the most important work was "Tengen Breakthrough Gurren Lagann", which he was responsible for setting and producing. After more than 10 years since "Neon Genesis Evangelion", GAINAX hopes to once again create an original robot animation and achieve greater success. In fact, the plan at that time was for another film that was planned to produce a TV series and a theatrical version at the same time. However, it did not go as smoothly as expected. The content of the plan and the production lineup were constantly changing. In the end, the plan was scrapped and redone.
Speedy action is one of the charms of Imaishi's films, but it's the lightsaber battle scenes that really bring it to life. Director Imaishi said, In live-action lightsaber battles, the battle is determined by the distance between them, and they actually move very slowly. It's really cool in live-action, but it's difficult to do that in animation. That's what I thought," he says.In that case, I thought I'd take advantage of what Japanese anime is good at and draw it quickly in an anime-like way.The scene was created with an awareness of the uniqueness of anime.''The scene was completed as a scene worth seeing. .
Since its inception in 1977, Star Wars is an unprecedented form of entertainment that has continued to be loved by generations. Director Imaishi, who was born in 1971, first encountered this series when he saw Star Wars: A New Hope (1977) being broadcast on TV when he was in elementary school.
At that time, I was obsessed with anime such asGundam''. Until I was in junior high school, I watched live-action movies as a hobby (lol). Anime is the best, it's important in life.'' I was the kind of kid who thought,It's an anime!'', so when I first saw Star Wars,'' I was excited, but I also wondered,Is this the source of the scenes and developments in that anime?'' I feel like I was there," he confessed. As the epic story continued, he began to feel that it was a unique series. ``The aesthetics, unity, and originality of the design are outstanding, and the meaning of the vast setting and saga gradually became clearer. My interest has expanded.I feel that Star Wars is a series that accomplishes things that no other science fiction film can.''
After becoming involved in animation production, he says, When I watch a new Star Wars movie, I sometimes think,That design was great,'' or I'd like to incorporate that design in the next work.'' For that reason, I was very happy to be able to participate in Star Wars: Visions. Director Imaishi said,I'm able to proudly create something that has influenced me or something that I've created as an homage in my original home. It's amazing to be given this opportunity to make Star Wars'' without making any changes. I couldn't think of any other option other thando it'','' he says.
"THE TWINS" is set in the future from "Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker" (2019), and follows the twin dark lords Am and Karre, created by the power of the dark side. A story with a main character. The twins lead the remnants of the Galactic Empire and plan to restore the Sith and rebuild a new Galactic Empire, and they also complete an evil ultimate weapon with great power. There, the thoughts of Am and Karre become clear, but how did they develop their ideas?
Director Imaishi said, ``The story was created by Hiromi Wakabayashi (from TRIGGER), who was in charge of this script.Even in the Star Wars canon, stories about siblings like Luke and Leia are depicted. , the story revolves around a family episode. I wanted to keep that in mind," he explains, adding, "Also, Luke, who was an ordinary young man, gains various powers and takes on a certain position. However, Wakabayashi said that he wanted to do the opposite this time. The twins, who were born as the Dark Lords of the Imperial Army, are trying to change their original position on their own. "It's a story about how you can choose your own path. The underlying idea is that you can choose your own path," he says emphatically.
Throughout his career, Imaishi Hiroyuki's work as an artist and director was numerous and of high quality. As an animator, he has worked on Neon Genesis Evangelion, Dai-Guard, Gad-Guard, Gaiking: Legend of Daikū-maryū, King of Braves Gaogaigar, Getter Robo: Armageddon, Diebuster", "Heroman", "Mobile Suit Gundam 00", "Star Driver" and many other mecha animations have produced a large number of key animations and storyboards. While sitting in the director's chair, Hiroyuki Imaishi is able to use 100% of his artistic sense, resulting in many works imbued with his unique style.
A follower of the Yoshinori Kaneda school of animation—an influential Japanese animator known for his intense action scenes—Hiroyuki Imaishi creates animation that is endlessly anarchic, hyperactive, and wildly shape-shifting. His style is the opposite of anime, where animation plays a minor role in the plot, bringing back the animator-centric approach and innocent fun of old anime like Gutsy Frog (which was one of his main inspirations) . In short, in Imaishi's work, the animator is the top priority. Additionally, he incorporates his many years of comics work into his work, such as in FLCL and Karekano.
Hiroyuki Imaishi loves the mecha genre and is a huge fan of Xabungle, giving back the passion that inspired him: not only has he created countless key animations for many mecha anime, he also created Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and Promare, two must-have Watch Mecha is for anyone who likes pure entertainment and non-stop action. In particular, Gurren Lagann is not only an extremely good animation with animated scenes full of movement and energy that collects the essence of each period's mecha series and then re-conveys it, it also helps the younger generation, including myself, understand and enjoy Super Robots, a subgenre that is no longer as well known as it once was. Hiroyuki Imaishi's contribution to the mecha genre is indeed no less than that of his predecessors.
For mecha fans like me, the very "original" fire that Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann ignited in each of our hearts is difficult to disappear from memory, and today the name Hiroyuki Ishi will always be associated with "hype" and "fire" Associated with words such as "style". I hope that no matter what kind of anime he wants to make, Imaishi-sensei will still release anime full of his extraordinary style in the future as he has done so far.

TRIGGER Founded in 2011, the emerging animation production company is composed of three core members of the well-known old animation production company GAINAX Masahiko Otsuka, Hiroyuki Imaishi, and Kazuya Kusumoto. First of all, let me briefly introduce these three animation producers who can be called core members. First, Masahiko Otsuka and Hiroyuki Imaishi participated in the production of Evangelion, and then the two original animations of GAINAX "Tianyuan Breakthrough" and "Angel in Garter" was produced by these three people. From these two animations, we can already see the prototype of TRIGGER's unique and delicate painting style. Some of the exaggerated feeling of American comics, but also perfectly integrated into the delicate style of Japanese comics.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One of the "Four Heavenly Kings of the Trigger Club", the symbol of the "Trigger Soul", Hiroyuki Imaishi.Perhaps, this is a strange name to you, but you have definitely heard of the names of these works more or less: "Tianyuan breaks through the Red Lotus Rock", "Slaying the Girl", "Cosmic Detective Luluko"... ...After GAINAX created such a very stylized work as "Tianyuan Breakthrough", and after being cold in the process of creating "Angel in Garter", Hiroyuki Imaishi led the production team of "Tianyuan Breakthrough" to leave GAINAX, and worked with Da Tsuka Masahiko and Masumoto Kazuya founded TRIGGER. "If the work is compared to a bullet, we are willing to make a trigger that ejects the bullet out of the barrel of the gun." Adhering to this concept, the creations of Imaishi and the Trigger Club have always maintained the style of "Tianyuan Breakthrough"—— While full of tension, there is also a characteristic passion, which is also the so-called "trigger soul". The same is true for "Promea", with extremely tense paintings, exaggerated funnyness, and the "burning" that can only be felt in the works of Trigger Club.

Watch the first trailer for the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime
Tumblr media
With all of the drama surrounding Cyberpunk 2077’s initial launch, it would be easy to forget that there’s another exciting project on the way: an anime spinoff from famed studio Trigger. (That’s the same team behind projects like Promare, Little Witch Academia, and Kill la Kill.) The Netflix series was first announced back in 2020, and now we finally have the first trailer for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. It’s hard to tell precisely what is going on in the one-minute-long clip, but it sure looks incredible.    Cyberpunk: Edgerunners tells a standalone, 10-episode story about a street kid trying to survive in a technology- and body-modification-obsessed city of the future. Having everything to lose, he chooses to stay alive by becoming an edgerunner — a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk. CD Projekt describes the original game: Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world, action-adventure story set in Night City, a megalopolis obsessed with power, glamour and body modification. You play as V, a mercenary outlaw going after a one-of-a-kind implant that is the key to immortality. You can customize your character's cyberware, skillset and playstyle, and explore a vast city where the choices you make shape the story and the world around you. Edgerunners features some all-star talent, including director Hiroyuki Imaishi, writers Masahiko Otsuka and Yoshiki Usa, character designer Hiroyuki Imaishi, and composer Akira Yamaoka. The show is expected to hit Netflix in September.
