Exclusive Interview: Charmaine "Not So Sweet" Tweet
Exclusive Interview: Charmaine “Not So Sweet” Tweet
It all started at the age of 14 after watching Sugar Ray Leonard videos. 10 years later, the journey began. Since then, Charmaine “Not So Sweet” Tweet has become one of the best featherweights in the world. For a long time, fighting was just something that Charmaine did. During her high school years, she didn’t fit in with any of the sports teams she played for. So immediately, fighting became an…

Bellator 174 had two fighters call it a career

Choosing to pursue a combat sports career and be successful means a lot of sacrifice. The way regular folks get up and go to work every day professional combat sports athletes do the same, for very little money when they start out. Bellator 174 saw two experienced fighters fight their last fight and call it a career.
During the prelims Cody Pfister (13-6-1) announced his retirement after a first round submission win over Jonathan Gary (12-8-2). Pfister has fought in the UFC, King of the Cage and many other regional MMA promotions. Pfister is aware that his retirement from MMA caught a lot of people by surprise since he is only 26-years-old but he said he wants to try and focus on some other things in his life.

"Who knows, maybe I’ll be back."  -- Cody Pfister
If Pfister does come back, Bellator may have dibs on his return since he seemed happy with his last fight in the promotion.
Also, Marloes Coenen (23-8) decided to end her career after not winning the inaugural featherweight title in her match with Julia Budd (10-2). While she fought a good fight the pressure Budd put on her when she was taken down did not allow her to work her submission game.
Coenen is one of the few women that not only lasted more than a few rounds with Cris “Cyborg” Justino but when she lost, she wanted a rematch. Coenen had some very wise words for those in the fight game; "There’s only one message that I want to give out to all the fighters out there and that's please listen to your body.”
Not long after the announcement, Justino posted some kind words on social media about Coenen:
WMMA legend Marloes Coenen and myself have shared something special that I don't think the average person will... https://t.co/AesUUIRJsw

Julia Budd has finally captured a major championship in mixed martial arts (MMA).
Tonight (March 3) Bellator 174 took place inside the WinStar World Casino in Thackerville, Oklahoma. The main event featured the inaugural Bellator women’s featherweight title bout between Budd and Marloes Coenen. “The Jewel” came into the contest on a seven-fight winning streak. Coenen had the experience edge with 31 professional MMA bouts and having held Strikeforce gold before.
By the end of the night, it was Budd who walked out of the Bellator cage a champion. Budd once competed for Strikeforce, but she didn’t hit her stride until her submission loss to Ronda Rousey. Since then, “The Jewel” has been on a tear and is now one of the top female featherweights in the sport.
Meanwhile, Coenen announced her retirement after the fight. She thanked her supporters and…
