Vica Pacheco/Maria Bertel/Ying-Hsueh Chen - 29/04/2023 - at Intonal
The Mexican-born artist and musician enlists the Danish trombonist and Taiwanese percussionist/multi-instrumentalist for a live soundtrack for the world premiere of her original animation.
Commisioned SHAPE+ work.
Pacheco studied art in Mexico City and France, and while her work is rooted in experimental music and composition, she also has a plastic practice ranging from ceramics to 3D animation. Chen was educated at the Juilliard School and the Royal Danish Academy of Music, has won several awards in USA and Denmark, and her concerts have been broadcast on national and international radio and TV in Denmark, USA, Taiwan, and South Korea. The “Ancestral Modernism” concert series, in which primordial sonic experiences are delivered by bringing out the universality of avant-garde and ancestral heritage, is a milestone among her projects. Bertel is a co-founder of the Copenhagen-based art collective eget værelse and apart from her work as a solo artist, she performs and composes in groups like GESH (with drummer Jaleh Negari), Selvhenter (the notorious noise rock band), an improvised noise duo with Nina Garcia, the G.E.K duo with saxophone player Johannes Lund, and more.
Ita means flower in Mixteco, the indigenous Mesoamerican culture in the Mexican region of Oaxaca – where Pacheco was born. Deeply inspired by Oskar Fischinger’s animations for music, Ernst Haeckel’s artistic-scientific drawings, and observations of nature, ITA evokes organic, living elements that create a network in constant movement.

Lisbon Cathedral (No. 7)
The Cathedral of Lisbon, or Church of Santa Maria Maior, is located in the city of the same name, in Portugal. It is the home of the Patriarchate of Lisbon and the Parish of the See. Its construction began in the second half of the 12th century, after the conquest of the city from the Moors by D. Afonso Henriques, and is presented today as a mixture of architectural styles. It has been classified as a National Monument since 1910.
Lisbon has been the site of a bishopric since at least the 4th century, at the end of antiquity. It is also known of the existence of several bishops of the city during the Visigothic period, between the 5th and 7th centuries and In the early 8th century, Lisbon was conquered by the Moors, but the Christian population remained in and around the city. In 1147, when D. Afonso Henriques took the city from the Moors, Lisbon had a Moçarabic bishop (as christians who lived under Muslim rule were called).  After the reconquest of the city by King Portuguese and the knights taking part in the Second Crusade, an English crusader, Gilberto de Hastings, was made bishop. Construction of the cathedral began, apparently on the site of lisbon's old mosque. At the same time, Afonso Henriques brought from the Algarve the relics of Saint Vincent de Zaragoza and deposited them in the See.

L A G A L L E T A
It is always convenient to put your prejudices to the test, longing and yearning, gooning and bating.

Desert Haven Hospital - Nine days later, 10:17am
Tumblr media
Maria: Hello, little Linnea. I’m bringing you to your Mama now. *giggles* *Hands Linnea to Susanna* Maria: Here you go, Susanna. Susanna: Thank you, Maria.
Tumblr media
Benjamin: Dr. Joyner should be here any minute to sign the discharge papers. Do you need your clothes? Susanna: Please.
Tumblr media
Benjamin: Just one more thing I’d like to know. Is the birth certificate finshed processing? Susanna: Almost, they just have to record the date of birth, and that’s it. Ekant and I signed it two weeks ago, just in case things like this happen.
Tumblr media
Maria: Well, I’m glad you two were prepared. Now, let’s get you dressed, and bring Linnea to Ekant before we head home. Susanna: Good deal!
Twenty Minutes Later -
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Susanna: Dr. Pacheco! Glad we caught you. How’s my husband today? Dr. Pacheco: Showing signs of improvement. His latest test results are something to report.
Tumblr media
Susanna: He’s not out of the woods yet, is he? Dr. Pacheco: Well, as with all coma patients, unless he can show signs of breathing on his own, we won’t exactly know for sure. I’m sorry, Michelle. Susanna: Can we see him?
Tumblr media
Dr. Pacheco: Of course, but make it brief. We have to turn him over in 15 minutes. Susanna: Okay. *to Ben and Maria* We can go in, guys. But we gotta make it quick.
Tumblr media
Susanna: Hi, Love. Nea and I just got discharged from the hospital, but we came to see you before we go.
Tumblr media
Susanna: They found the woman who ran you over, but she was disoriented at the time of the accident. The authorities told us she’d had a hypoglycemic episode, and wasn’t aware of it. We spoke to her and decided not to pursue any further action. She really didn’t mean to hit you, and apologized profusely over this.
Tumblr media
*Linnea starts gurgling happily* Susanna: *giggles* Do you hear our little girl over there? She’s happy to finally meet you.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dr. Pacheco: It’s almost time. Susanna: Oh! Yes! Thank you... for reminding us.
Tumblr media
Susanna: We've gotta go now. But, Linnea and I will be back in a few days to see you. If you can hear me, just know that I love you so much. Please, keep fighting. We still need you. I want you to live long enough to watch our baby girl grow up, and live a happy life. Please.

Tor Falcon was lucky to study art in Norwich, UK, when Ana Maria Pacheco was the head of the Fine Art department. She still lives and works in Norwich.
"Below are a selection of drawings, done over one year, in a field in Norfolk. It’s a field I have been looking at and drawing for 30 years. I first drew it as barley stubble in 1991, the year it was taken out of arable production, and I’ve been drawing the succession of plants that have found their way here, and mainly thrived, ever since. Through drawing I’ve learnt the names and habits of the, now complex, community of plants.
Through drawing the plants and seeing what grows where I’ve learnt about the patchwork of soil beneath my feet. The plants clearly show me where the stream used to meander before it was straightened 150 years ago. Crackpot as it sounds, I think of the plants on this field as friends - I can’t find a better way of describing it, I care about what happens to them and I like their company - that’s what a friend is, isn’t it? For instance, I have known each thorn since it first became distinct from the sward. I know the late and early blossomers - I’ve traced their unique shapes onto my paper year after year, including the little stunted one that has never recovered from an attack of oak eggar moth caterpillars about 15 years ago. And I’ve drawn the crabapple that grew up in a jumble of thorn - until the livestock noticed (and wanted) its apples, that is.
The animals have steadily cleared the ground round it so it now stands in the centre of a sort of roundabout - follow any of the animal tracks on the field and you will end up at the crabapple at some point. These drawings are just a snapshot - one year in a ceaselessly changing place.

INTEREST CHECK & ACTIVITY CHANGES!
Don't worry, we haven't forgotten activity checks! Lindsey and I have been working behind the scenes at ironing out some changes to how we do activity checks, to give you guys a little more leniency while allowing us to stay on top of things with less stress / guilt.
Starting on Monday, May 8th, our activity requirements will be changing. Any account inactive for two weeks will be automatically unfollowed. Accounts that are inactive for one week, display inconsistent activity and/or are not replying to open starters will be warned. Checks will be done twice a month -- once at the beginning/end, and once in the middle. That should give people plenty of time in between and also a little more structure. I will have a more detailed post on this on Monday, as well as adjusting our rules then, so if you have any questions, please ask!
Another thing that we are introducing at this point in time is our 'extended reserve for future use' section, in which players can now reserve one face that they plan on developing a character around. Only one, however! We don't want to encourage face hogging, and if a significant amount of time passes, we will reach out to check and see if you're still moving forward with said character. We know (from our own current experiences!) that it can sometimes take much, much longer than one week to properly research and develop a character, and want to extend that courtesy to our writers.
So! To get everyone on the same page and with a fresh, clean start, we are giving everyone this weekend to contact us and interact with this post. If you are good to go, just like it, we'll cross you off the list and your roles are yours. If you need to drop or swap, or pause anyone, or make any changes, let us know! Happy to help.
PLEASE LIKE THIS POST TO ACKNOWLEDGE YOU'VE READ IT AND WOULD LIKE TO KEEP YOUR ROLES!
