Bosch stype frescos‚ rich colourful tableaux‚ dripping gothic atmosphere.. on vibes alone this is a real winner#Lee is high in the credits of course but only really has an extended cameo (this being during his sojourn to europe to escape Hammer for a#while‚ only to end up making even cheaper Hammer alikes for the Germans and Italians). the plot is all Corman Poe cycle‚ loosely inspired#by the works of Poe‚ but with its own nearly wholesome adventuring bent. benefits from having genuinely likeable and compelling characters#upfront (Medar is a consistent scene stealer as a highway robber who gets unwillingly pulled into the gothic shenanigans and becomes a#reluctant heroic accomplice). some startling imagery and a few choice pearls of dialogue too. much better than it would look on paper#definitely one of the better examples of euro schlock from this era‚ and among the best Lee was involved in

The Torture Chamber of Dr. Sadism (1967)
My rating: 6/10
German made (but English language) faux-Hammer horror, featuring lots of dodgy writing, dodgy acting and dodgy effects, plus Christopher Lee as the villain (though he's dead for most of it, so it's just barely more than a cameo) and some rather funky tunes by Peter Thomas. Not great, but occasionally amusing and quite watchable.

There’s a lovable ‘cheapness’ to this film, a charm that wins you over, even in the face of its general ‘crapness’.
The Torture Chamber of Dr. Sadism is a 1967 West German horror film directed by Harald Reinl and starring Christopher Lee, Karin Dor, Lex Barker, Vladimir Medar, Christiane Rücker and Carl Lange. It also goes under the name of The Blood Demon, Castle of the Walking Dead and The Snake Pit and the Pendulum.
The latter because film writer Manfred R. Köhler based the story on Edgar Allan Poe’s 1842…
