Aluminium Mould Tooling?

Typically we are asked to design and manufacture aluminium tooling for representative prototypes, ‘new’ pre-production parts, or low/ medium volume products.

There is a common misconception that aluminium tooling is limited to very low volumes (c 5,000 shots), however we are specialists in this field and, whilst the tools remain under our care and handling, we have historically been able to produce 100,000+ parts from aluminium tools in engineering polymers.

Many Clients who have ordered our aluminium tools for prototype development use have then been able to use the same tool for production supply.

Our aluminium tooling is used with a very wide range of high end technical and engineering polymers including Ultem, Nickel fill, Steel fill, Nanotube fill, PTFE fill, Electro-conductive, 50% glass filled PBT and Nylons, as well as the more common commercial plastics.

The alloys we use are high-grade and sourced from some of the biggest UK stockholders. We are provided with Certificates of Conformity in order to underwrite a quality tool, built to last.

Steel Mould Tooling?

Typically we are asked to design and manufacture steel tooling for Medium/ high volume production (1,000,000+).

We offer the full range of high-end traditional tool making with the benefit of using the same quality, speed of manufacture and operational systems developed by us for First Tier rapid development tooling manufacture.

Yesterday we went a tour of the industry leading PPE manufacturer JSP's factory. This paradoxically is set within the rolling Oxfordshire countryside, in a listed former blanket mill, but produces some of leading most advanced head protection products on the market. The factory makes over 4 million hard hats a year, other Oxfordshire and Germany 🇩🇪 based JSP factories produce other equipment. Moreover, along with other companies, they have been onshoring production in the UK 🇬🇧 & the EU 🇪🇺. With the rise in automation, the benefits of guaranteed quality control and control of supply chain means that making in Europe is the future for businesses. Additionally, being based in Europe means that workers have workplace rights, green legislation, and culture encourages manufacturers to produce electricity onsite (JSP we understand is in effect carbon neutral, despite manufacturing plastic products). The game that started it all. Harry’s Game, a Red edition. Featuring two sets of dominoes, one with red pips the other with white. The aim of the game is simple yet it’s strategically challenging. (Here’s a brief explanation) Each player is assigned a colour. On the left bar two players can play. On the right three players can play. The colour selected acts as the player’s horizontal lane. The objective is to try and make each of assigned lanes to add up to exactly 28 pips. Each player picks up 7 dominoes. The playfield is designed in such a way to show where dominoes can be placed. Players take it in turns to place dominoes on the field whilst scoring points along the way (if a domino is placed next one of the same value). Score and pick up a domino. Once the playfield is full or no player can play, lanes are added up. Injection Moulding:

Injection Moulding is a manufacturing process for producing identical plastic parts. It is suitable for low to high volumes and small to large parts. Plastic polymers are available to suit every application for the final component, according to the need for strength, durability, conductivity, aesthetic finish, fire rating, ect. Before we can make the plastic components, we need an injection mould tool. An injection mould tool can be design to produce a single part at a time or it can have multiple impressions of identical, mirrored or different components.

Toolmaking:

An injection mould tool is effectively the mould into which molten plastic polymer material is injected. The polymer then cool inside the mould, solidifies and forms the unique shape mandated by the design, after the designated cooling time, the tool is automatically separated into the the two halves and the components are ejected and removed. When we are initially discussing a project with a client, we will establish the key facts around the final application. this will lead to the most suitable material for both the mould tool and moulded components, and the structure of the tool.
