Step by Step Episode 9 Ramblings
Episode 8 Ramblings, here
Jeng has managed to get Pat's mom's approval before he can convince Pat to be his boyfriend lol
Well, it looks like Corporate Daddy is putting all his frustrations into getting absolutely JACKED
He's in an all-black suit. Oh noooo.
Tumblr media
"Did you guys plan on meeting up?" Are they implying that Pat's mom and dad are not together? I love that separation and divorce are becoming more normalized in Asian media. It's definitely better to separate and enjoy whatever little peace of mind is left, than to stay together, fighting and miserable, while traumatizing the children in the process.
I'm LOVING this Gordon Ramsey reference.
Chot continues to be the best human being in this show
Oh my god, I was right. He's looking for a replacement. He is fleeing the country again, I KNEW IT
Why does this dude look so familiar?
Tumblr media
Some quick sleuthing, and I've found that he's the guy who has a crush on Uea in Bed Friend!
Goddamn, Jeng, you adorable, adorable gentleman. Not the "jacket 'round my shoulders is yours" moment, you sly old fox
Oooooooooof, Pat. FUCK, THAT HURTS
Tumblr media
I'm sinking lower and lower into my chair, with every passing dialogue in this conversation, dreading the outcome. Oh god, somebody fucking hold me T-T
"How could you like me. It doesn't make sense". Ahhhhh Pat, it doesn't make sense to you, because you were being delulu and believed that Jeng is straight. To Jeng, it makes perfect sense
Tumblr media
Not my beloved Jaab immediately clocking into Pat and Jeng's situation, while his misery was overlooked by basically everyone after the JaabJane kiss. JUSTICE FOR JAAB!
"People are allowed to be weak" I'M NOT CRYING, I'M NOT, NOPE T-T
Tumblr media
I love that Pat and Jane are already bonding over how dumb the brothers are, lol.
WHAT DID YOU WISH FOR, PAT?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pat's conversation with Mom and Dad is such a pivotal moment. Pat is finally realizing that in all the work stress, the relationship drama with Put and his confusing feelings about Jeng, he really has forgotten to take stock of himself and his emotions.
"Everywhere I go, it's filled with memories" Okay, now Pat is straight up spitting heartbreak lyrics. "I see you everywhere, the only thing we share is this small town" ~ Death by a Thousand Cuts, Taylor Swift
And his parents' advice is spot on. "Life always has people coming in and people going out. But what will stay with you is yourself". It's always good advice to stop and look inward when everything around you feels chaotic.
Ohhhhhh the waterworks in this episode are REAL
Tumblr media
I'm in LOVE with this scene. YES, PLEASE, we need more portrayals of divorce as the happier and healthier choice!
Tumblr media
A succinct summary of capitalism
Tumblr media
Jane resigned a month ago?! WHAT. I thought he was just going on a long vacation or something
"Next time, you're the one who's getting pregnant" lmaooo AE, I LOVE YOU, DO YOU HEAR ME?
Jaab's face right after Ae gave birth is cracking me up lol
Tumblr media
So we're still not addressing the Ae-Khanun-Beam mess, huh? Alright.
HOLD ON. Jane is back in Pink and appears to be getting on a cab that looks very similar to the overnight ones they took a couple episodes ago. Is there still hope? Is he coming back to Bangkok?
Tumblr media
Well, Pat, is a box full of your favorite snack as a late birthday gift straightforward enough for you?
"It makes sense to me." Perfect callback. Perfect response.
OH MY GOD, are the clouds parting? Is the slowburn REALLY OVER? ARE WE FINALLY, FINALLY GONNA SEE JENGPAT KISS? If this ends up being some editing trickery, I'm gonna riot!

We've danced with the devil under the streetlight Been to hell and back in a black room Now I want to change but don't know what it feels like Keep having these visions of me without you

Still the Air by Roniit
Just because I have you Doesn't mean I'll never have me too I'm steady but I'm reckless And I'll never end this Just because I love you Doesn't mean you gotta love me too You're heaven and I'm helpless Holy and I'm breathless
Spiracle by Flower face
I want your secrets, your clementine fields The ropes that you climb up, the parts that won't heal I want your safe word, your passive resistance The sickness you foster, your favorite addictions

Bad Behavior by Klergy, Erin McCarley
I'm gonna get under Your skin, I'm a hunter Like a snake in the sun, Waking up the hunger
Swallow a gold rush And I remain focused The world that I make, Become what you hate I'll confess to nothing, Nothing
Daddy by Ramsey
Love is pain Hold your knife up Knife up, hold your knife up Baby, you're divine, I leave my body

Well, found a song that sums up Dick Knubbler and Lucy's (my OC) dynamic and is EXACTLY what I meant when I tagged "Daddy kink" on AO3. 👀🥵😳
This song is musically STUNNING and exudes dark sensuality and I need someone to throw a bucket of ice water on me.
Lyrics under the cut:
I belong to you, I give you the power
You're the only one that I let in, you tear my walls down
I can tell your energy is mine now
Oh yeah, I feel it right now
'Cause everything is better, I think I'm high now
Choking on his skin I try to slow down
Loving you is heavy on my mind now
(I want it right now)
Baby, you can bite me if you like that
I wouldn't fight that, I wouldn't fight that
Drift away to nothing when I ride that
I let you fuck away my pain and make it come back
Look at me and tell me that you like that
Daddy, when I fight back, tell me that you like that
Look at me and tell me that you like that
Daddy when I fight back, tell me that you like that
Playin' games
Hard to move, you got me tied up
Love is pain, hold your knife up
Knife up, hold your knife up
Baby, you're divine, I leave my body
Suckin' on your tongue, gold teeth, come find love
Baby likes the drugs make gold teeth grind up (oh)
Grind up (oh, oh), grind up (oh, oh, oh)
'Cause everything is better, I think I'm high now
Soaking in his sin, I carve my soul out
Loving you is heavy on my mind now
Baby, you can bite me if you like that
I wouldn't fight that, I wouldn't fight that
Drift away to nothing when I ride that (when I ride that)
I let you fuck away my pain and make it come back
Look at me and tell me that you like that
Daddy, when I fight back, tell me that you like that
Look at me and tell me that you like that
Daddy, when I fight back, tell me that you like that
Daddy
Daddy
Daddy, daddy
Daddy
Daddy
Daddy, daddy
Daddy
Look at me
Look at me
Look at me
Look at me

Charles Stepney - Step on Step - 23-track collection of home recordings, out today from International Anthem
International Anthem is proud to present 'Step on Step', a double LP collection of home recordings marking the de-facto eponymous debut album by enigmatic producer, arranger, and composer Charles Stepney (1931-1976). The music that makes up Step on Step was created by Stepney alone, in the basement of his home on the Southside of Chicago, sometime in the late 1960s and early 1970s, before his untimely death in 1976.
A Chicago born and bred arranger, producer, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, Stepney is known for his work with Earth, Wind & Fire, Deniece Williams, and Ramsey Lewis, and as a staff producer for Chess Records in the 1960s, where he was an essential creative force behind seminal recordings by Rotary Connection, Minnie Riperton, Marlena Shaw, Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, Terry Callier, The Dells, The Emotions, and many more. In the decades since his passing, the presence of his name in liner notes and on vinyl labels has become a seal of quality for record collectors, music historians, and aficionados, while his sound has been used by countless samplers in the hip-hop world including Kanye West, A Tribe Called Quest, The Fugees, MF Doom, and Madlib. But in comparison to the post-mortem renown of his sound, or the music he created and the artists he supported while he was alive, Stepney is a greatly underappreciated figure… a genius relegated to the shadows. One of the signature elements of his “baroque soul” sound is the epic, expansive, orchestral expression of his horn and string arrangements (in many cases brought to life by members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra), as heard on Minnie Riperton’s “Les Fleurs,” or Marlena Shaw’s “California Soul,” or Terry Callier’s “What Color Is Love.” Hence making it even more special that his de-facto debut LP Step on Step, which sees its first wide release nearly five decades after his death, is a collection of stripped-down 4-track tape recordings featuring Stepney, alone, performing all instruments with minimal means. It is, as said by Chicago culture historian (and author of Step on Step liner notes) Ayana Contreras, “the uncut funk,” an unprecedented depiction of an imbued composer imagining and conceiving music (some of which would eventually become massive studio productions) in its primal state. Step on Step features 23 tracks, most of which are original compositions by Stepney that were never again recorded by him or any other artist. It also features prototypical, seedling-style demos of Stepney compositions for Earth, Wind & Fire, including “That’s The Way of The World,” “Imagination,” and “On Your Face,” as well as the original version of “Black Gold,” which would eventually be recorded by Rotary Connection (as “I Am The Black Gold of The Sun,” with lyrics by Richard Rudolph). And in addition to the wordless croons of Stepney original and early single “Daddy’s Diddies,” Stepney’s actual voice is heard on a couple occasions across the album, testing microphones and inputs on his tape machine.

8 ethan ramsey/mc songs ab their relationship
i miss u - haley morales
boyfriend- ariana grande, social house
imagine - ariana grande
issues - julia michaels
dress - taylor swift
kiss the boy - keiynan lonsdale
walking backwards - leagues
save me - aimee mann
explanations/reasoning:
i miss u is a very calm and cute song, that I think explain some of the pain between mc and ethan. (their restriction and obvious romantic tension between them, them craving each others touch etc.) as well as ethan’s regretful feelings of their relationship;
I miss you, i miss you
Wish I didn’t miss you
Through all of this I shouldn’t have kissed you
The thoughts and the pain
I miss you, I miss you
Wish I could just kiss you again
boyfriend is such a sexy song!!! I love how the overall vibe is jealousy - which I know is prob a trait especially from ethan. If you listen to it whilst thinking of ethan and mc’s relationship.. GIIIIRL! I promise you will be like “ooh, yas”;
I know we be so complicated
But we be so smitten, it's crazy
....
Even though you ain't mine
I promise the way we fight
Make me honestly feel like we just in love
imagine has it in the word. I see it from both of their perspective, wanting to be together - but doing nothing but imagining cute scenarios with each other, since they can’t be together. so cute, yet kinda sad🥺;
Imagine a world like that
...
Why can't you imagine a world like that?
...
Knew you were perfect after the first kiss
Took a deep breath like, "Ooh"
Feels like forever, baby, I never
Thought that it would be you
issues is 👏 the👏 song👏. I absolutely LOVE the song, and I reeeaaally can connect ethan and mc’s relationship to this song - when it’s rocky, yet beautiful, nurturing and imperfect in the perfect way. Them fitting together perfectly - even though they have issues and imperfections;
'Cause we got the kind of love
It takes to solve 'em
Yeah, I got issues
And one of them is how bad I need you
ok. dress is describing ethan and mc’s relationship perfectly! wtf actually??? hello taylor? are u an ethonk stan? no but this song don’t need any explanation. just read the lyrics, babe;
Our secret moments in your crowded room
They've got no idea about me and you
...
All of this silence and patience, pining in anticipation
My hands are shaking from holding back from you
...
Say my name and everything just stops
I don't want you like a best friend
kiss the boy is such an adorable song!! I think this song fits so good with ethan and mc - especially the m!mc, since the song predominantly is about same-sex love, and the singer’s problems with coming out. buuuuut it still fits really good with ethan and f!mc! just read;
But I'm amazed at how we talk
It's so chill
But there tension
...
But I can't stop the crazy within
You messing my emotions up
My head gets stuck
I'm scared to show just how I feel 'cause people talk
walking backwards is.. oh god. it’s so sexy. 😏😏😏 no but I can imagine this playing just when ethan and mc give in to each other in ch. 10, book 1. like.. the tension. the hunger. yes.
and I really like the title of the song, since it represents how ethan has tried to hold himself back, to not make any of the ‘mistakes’ he did earlier with letting his emotions loose. but oh well. daddy ethan, we are walking backwards;
I am caught up in your desire
It's flush in the face desire
...
I've been taken with a new emotion
I've been walking backwards
...
Fight back but it wins, it wins
Set it loose but but it starts again
save me is a song to the sad side😥 I honestly think this song could be playing in the background when ethan left the hospital (in chapter 13??? book 1). as well as his general thoughts, when he looks at mc. idk. it’s cute, but complex. you could see this from both of their perspective, and take whatever feeling away from it. hunger, desire, thirst for touch and love etc. of course also ethan not wanting help, but deep down - he wants mc to save him;
But can you - save me
Come on and - save me
If you could - save me
From the ranks of the freaks
Who suspect they could never love anyone
...
'Cause I can tell
You know what it's like
-
thank u for reading!!! pls use any of these songs for your fanfics etc. or enjoy them whilst thinking of daddy ethan.

May Song 5: "Bubblegum" by Matt McGinn & Ciara O'neill
“Bubblegum” by Matt McGinn & Ciara O’neill
“Bubblegum” is the lead single from Irish songwriter Matt McGinn’s 4th studio album ‘Lessons of War’. The album sees Matt collaborate with musicians from war-affected areas across the world for a stunning collection of songs that explore the futility of war, its horrors, its affects, and after affects. “Bubblegum” is a heartbreakingly beautiful duet with fellow Irish artist Ciara O’neill.
“I didn’t mean to write an album of anti-war songs, it just kind of happened. The first time I saw the image of the young refugee washed up on the shore, it triggered something in me. I felt I had to do something, and writing was all I could do.”
In 2016, with help from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, Matt set about reaching out to musicians from areas across the world that had been scarred by conflict. It was to be the beginning of an incredible three-year journey that took Matt, from his home in the Mourne Mountains, to working with some of the most incredible individuals including Ciaran Lavery, Gerry Morgan, Ciara O’neill and more.
“Bubblegum”
Mum I like Johnny down the street But I don’t know if he likes me Mum I like Johnny down the street But I don’t know if he likes me Went to the shop this morning First time I tried bubblegum Home for dinner, daddy made it back Before the curfew come They played John Lennon R.I.P Top of the Pops this evening Imagine it was number 1 Happy Christmas, War is Over Mum I like Johnny down the street But I don’t know if he likes me Mum I like Johnny down the street But I don’t know if he likes me Daddy pinned up Bobby Sands for me Right next to my Madness poster In our house in the middle of our street
They blew up another bar last night Heard the soldiers searching Johnny says they might call off school And Johnny said ‘I can’t talk to you’ Mum I like Johnny down the street But I don’t know if he likes me Mum I like Johnny down the street But I don’t know if he likes me Mum I like Johnny down the street But I don’t know if he likes me Mum I like Johnny down the street But I don’t know if he likes me I didn’t do my lessons right I’ll have to rush it in the morning Three riots up the street tonight The hunger strikes have started

MATT MCGINN BIO
Hailing from the foothills of the Mourne Mountains, in Co. Down, Northern Ireland, this is Matt McGinn. You can tell by hearing by his warm, rasping and powerful voice, by listening to his worldly wise lyrics and by seeing his wide shoulders broadened from carrying coal almost thirty years, that by no means is this Matt's first dance. Far from it, as March 2018 sees the release of his 3rd solo album and, by all accounts, an absolute belter at that.
CIARA O’NEILL BIO
The last six plus years have been quite the journey for Portadown-bred songsmith Ciara O’Neill. Initially starting out life as a bedroom project, the singer/songwriter began to write material on a modest classical guitar she purchased for the mere sum of £90 as a means of therapy to help guide her through a turbulent time. Realising she had tapped into something special,  these tunes led her down a path to creating her debut album ‘The Ebony Trail,’ which she released in 2016, notching up praise from BBC6 Music’s Tom Robinson, Hot Press magazine, Chordblossom.com and more along the way.
But it wasn’t just the press that sat up and took notice of her haunting folk songs; music lovers and industry folk from across the globe also saw her star ascending. In 2015/2016 she found herself living in a proverbial suitcase and flitted back and forth to her spiritual home of Nashville after receiving publishing interest thanks to a chance meeting at the Belfast Nashville Songwriters Festival. It was there she sewed the seeds of what was to become her second album ‘Arrow,’  released on July 9th, 2018 and produced by Michael Mormecha [Malojian, Ciaran Lavery].
Comprising of 10 alternative folk tinged tales, the eagerly awaited record boasts plenty of light and shade and explores themes of loneliness, lost love, anxiety and the dark side of social media while also offering encouragement, comfort and catharsis.
“ Arrow’ was made in a drafty creaky old house in the country,” explains the musician. “This made it all the more special as if you listen closely you’ll hear the wind and the crows squawking outside the studio window.”
In addition to writing solo, Ciara is also a keen collaborator and has worked with many world class songwriters and artists over the past few years including Gary Burr [Christina Aguilera, LeAnn Rimes], Grammy winner Don Henry [Ray Charles, Miranda Lambert], Max T. Barnes [Colin Raye, Randy Travis] and Grammy nominated Drew Ramsey [John Legend, India Arie] amongst others

Lil Nas X’s ‘Old Town Road’ Breaks Billboard’s Singles Record
The longest-running No. 1 single in the 61-year history of Billboard’s Hot 100 chart is not by Elvis Presley, the Beatles, Michael Jackson or Madonna.
And no longer is that record held by “One Sweet Day” by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men, from 1995, or “Despacito,” the 2017 Latin smash by Luis Fonsi, with Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber — both of which held the top spot for 16 weeks.
The new champion is as much a novelty song as it is a meme and an object lesson in the state of music marketing: Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road,” which — after its latest blast of remixes and videos — on Monday notched its 17th week atop Billboard’s flagship singles chart.
In its latest week, “Old Town Road” had 72.5 million streams in the United States and was played 7,200 times on the radio, according to Nielsen. Although the song’s lead has been slipping in recent weeks — Billie Eilish’s “Bad Guy” had 51 million streams last week, and twice as many radio plays as “Old Town Road” — it was enough to lead Lil Nas X to a historic run.
Since it first topped the chart in April, “Old Town Road” has consistently had huge numbers, often with two or three times as many streams as its closest competitor. Along the way it has blocked new songs by chart giants like Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Eilish and Shawn Mendes from reaching No. 1.
And the song has been a pervasive cultural phenomenon for much of the year, with an endless series of online memes — many generated by Lil Nas X himself — and in-real-life moments that have then spread across social media. In May, for example, the rapper stirred up a gym full of Ohio schoolchildren; last week, the song even made its way into a Blondie set.
The rise of “Old Town Road” — and the week-by-week maintenance of its chart position — is in some ways a story of an old-fashioned one-hit wonder, and in some ways a primer on the latest and most effective ways that music is promoted.
Almost from the moment that Lil Nas X released “Old Town Road” late last year, as an independent act, it was an experiment in both genre and viral marketing.
Using a backing track he bought online for $30, Lil Nas X — a college dropout from Atlanta whose real name is Montero Hill — created a “country-trap” hybrid, with a boomy bass, plucked strings and cowboyish lyrics about “horses in the back.” (The beat was derived from a Nine Inch Nails track, so Trent Reznor and his partner Atticus Ross were added to the songwriting credits.)
Lil Nas X began generating social-media memes for “Old Town Road,” and the song first became a hit on the video sharing app TikTok. Thousands of young people made short clips mugging in cowboy hats and boots with Lil Nas X’s song playing in the background, tagging their clips #yeehaw.
“I promoted the song as a meme for months until it caught on to TikTok and it became way bigger,” Lil Nas X told Time magazine.
By mid-March, he had signed to Columbia Records and first hit the mainstream news radar after Billboard removed the song from its Hot Country Songs chart, drawing criticism about the conservatism of country radio and accusations of racism. (Billboard denied that race played any part in its decision.)
But what made “Old Town Road” a lasting hit was its steady and strategic drip of remixes. The first, with Billy Ray Cyrus, sent the song to No. 1 in April. Then came Diplo’s electronic version; another with the rapper Young Thug and Mason Ramsey, the 12-year-old “Walmart yodeling kid,” who was summoned awake one night to record his verse; and RM of the K-pop group BTS.
Along the way were music videos, live appearances at the Stagecoach Festival and on TV award shows, and Lil Nas X’s constant feeding of the phenomenon with tongue-in-cheek tweets that rallied the audience to his side.
“EVERYBODY STREAM ALL 79 VERSIONS OF OLD TOWN ROAD!!” he tweeted two weeks ago. “LETS BREAK THE RECORD!!”
“This is a kid who understands how the web works, how culture moves in 2019,” said Matty Karas, the curator of MusicRedef, an online news aggregator. “He understands the magic of how to make something go viral.”
In one sign of the song’s status as a classic one-hit wonder, “Old Town Road” continued to rule the singles chart even as Lil Nas X’s debut collection, an eight-song EP called “7,” was a relative dud. It opened at No. 2 — bested by Jack White’s Raconteurs — five weeks ago and has hovered in the Top 5 since. This week “7” holds at No. 4 on Billboard’s album chart.

401 Evaluative report
Camper Caine. 24 years young, I am an artist hailing from the depths of South London, Camberwell to be precise. Camberwell being bang in the middle of Peckham and Brixton I was no stranger to gangs or crime growing up; this being said, I come from a good family with both parents still alive and together today. I attended a secondary school called Archbishop Michael Ramsey Technology College at the time; it has since been demolished and redeveloped. The beginning of my journey as a musician started the summer before I started school here, where my friend ‘Allan’ joined a grime group called ‘T.O.T’. Consumed by the attention and the level of cool they began to attain, I wanted in. I began writing raps hoping to be recruited by them but, this was not the case. Instead of being crowned ‘the newest member of T.O.T’, I was laughed at and told I wasn’t good enough to be a part of the collective. This was one of the biggest turning points in my life. With this new desire to prove that I not only could go toe to toe with the best MC’s from T.O.T, I was determined to prove I was better in every way. This I did, and by the time I had started secondary school, everyone in my local area wanted to hear 16 bars from me. Growing up in South London I was influenced a lot by gang culture. I was part of the ‘Peckham boys’. My dad used to be away quite a lot due to work and I took full advantage of the freedom that came with that. I began getting into serious trouble at school and with the law, which in turn resulted in my dad kicking me out of the house. This ironically was a blessing in disguise. I went from place to place, be it a relative’s house or a friend’s, but I was never at home. People began to pick up on this and began to call me ‘Camper’ at first I hated it, but I started to like the little ring to it the more people called me it. Now the boy that could rap had things to talk about and more importantly had a name. I love hip hop music, this is down to the fact that my older sister was always in control of the sky remote and had MTV Base on 24/7. However, when my dad wasn’t able to pay the sky bill, the service was cut off and Channel U was the next best thing. I began to listen to grime music due to the fact that I could relate to what these guys in hoods and tracksuits on my television were saying. Still getting up to no good, my mother decided I was getting in way too deep and arranged for me to finish my last year of secondary school and first year of college in Nigeria at a boarding school. This decision changed my life forever and has helped to shape the person I am today. Being made aware of what was outside the walls of South London I quickly embraced my African heritage and made it a part of who I am as an individual and as an artist. I am heavily involved in the activities of my church ‘Brotherhood of the Cross and Star’, a place where we don’t use any instruments other than the organ and our natural voices to make music. All of these experiences transformed into melodies and lyrics, is Camper Caine. Hip hop, Grime, Afrobeat and Gospel are the foundations of my style of music, although I like a bit of everything else –barring Heavy metal.
My style of music initially was really gritty and aggressive due to my surroundings and lack of direction. Music was literally a place to vent all of my thoughts and frustrations and be heard. However, I liked productions that were smooth and more musically intricate with melody as opposed to just a hard knocking drum kit. Also, the ‘hard’ rap was getting me into trouble with the police so instead of packing the music in as they wanted me to, I began to commentate more on my surroundings and everyday life rather than encourage a life of crime and violence, which has had a positive effect on my music because although the street people can still relate, the people who know nothing about life in South London can get an idea of it while nodding their heads to the sounds of a nice musical backdrop. My early influences were Michael Jackson, Nas, Puff Daddy, Biggie Smalls, Giggs, 50 Cent, Styles P, DMX, Missy Elliot, Nelly, Lil Bow Wow, B2k, Usher, Fela Kuti. More recently, Chance the rapper, J. Cole, Kanye West, Jay-z, Skepta, Beyonce, Drake, Chipmunk, Big Sean, Solange, Jazmine Sullivan, Charles Bradley the list is endless. Previously, I have been compared to the likes of J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar down to my ability to tell stories about my life in musical ways also I believe we come from similar backgrounds. Also, I have been compared to Big Sean and Chance the Rapper musically because of their punch lines, word play and beat selection. In the United Kingdom, it’s a mix of Stormzy, Krept & Konan and Skepta. My image is something that I have only recently started thinking about because I was stuck in the mindset that I’m just a normal guy from South London that wears tracksuits, hoodies and trainers. However, I’ve realised that everyone in the rap scene wears the same thing and this is one of the things that I believe may have stunted my progress as an artist as I didn’t stand out. Thankfully, I’ve been able to take the semi-otics diagram away and draw up an image of who I am and who I would like the world to see me as. This has prompted me to explore colours i.e. I’ve decided that the colour of my brand is red. This is because the colour red represents; strength and leadership, passion and love, urgency and excitement. These are all feelings that I can identify with as a person and would like my audience to get that from me via my music, the way I dress and how I carry myself. I’ve incorporated all of my influences into a look where I have an item of red at all times, I have also designed a top in an African style to represent the African in me with a hood on it to represent the hood that has been such an integral part of my life. I am currently in the process of designing a new logo for an exclusive cap that I will wear. My music career has lead me on a different path to the one I envisioned as a young child. Coming back from Nigeria at the age of 17, I was determined to make something of myself. I decided to get a job and being the easiest type of work to get into in my opinion, I applied to work in retail. Whilst working in John Lewis I began releasing music on Youtube, this started to attract an audience and some views. However, work was taking too much of my time and was not allowing me to pay enough attention to the music, there were days I had to sneak out of work in order to go to the studio and also days that I would simply not turn up. There was a point at which I was completely depressed because I knew that this was not what I wanted to be doing, I had to find something that enabled me to make enough money to fund the studio sessions and video shoots but at the same time gave me the time and flexibility to actually put in the music work. This lead me to becoming an Uber driver, this is what I currently do to make money. It has taught me discipline and given me the independence to go out and make money for myself and I’ve applied it to my everyday life in the sense that I know that I can get up by myself and get what I want in life. Also, the flexiblity allows me to make music when I want to and am not restricted like I was in retail. I think that one of the hardest things I’ve had to experience in the industry so far is the fact that EVERYTHING costs so much from recording sessions, to mix sessions, to videos and promo and hardly anyone is willing to help you out unless there is some sort of financial gain for themselves. I think that this is one of the main reasons that I’m not further than I am today. I have never had any sort of deal thrown on the table for me but I have had sit downs with industry people i.e. Ben Scarr (A&R Island Records/Artist manager) and Anthony Layiwola (Artist manager). I’ve kept contact with them both and get feedback from them when they have the time. My social media handles used to be different which made it impossible for my own friends to find me, let alone any fans or industry professionals. Now for every social media account I own, you can find me by simply searching ‘Camper Caine’ this has definitely helped to increase the amount of traction I receive after releasing content via these channels. I was blessed with the privilege to be able to record in my local studio from the age of 12, so from then till now I’ve been able to get a lot done in terms of tracks. However, I am currently working on my third full project (10 tracks) entitled ‘Ch3quepoint’. Each project describes different parts of my life and I have learnt about myself as an artist after each one I done previously. I think due to the fact the 2nd was a slightly different direction sonically from the first; it didn’t do as well I think because my audience were expecting something else perhaps. Nevertheless, I now know that that particular sound may not be the one for me to run with. I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to have performed at the O2 academy in Islington with BiggaFish, Knew Knowledge with BBC’s CJ Beatz, Nottingham University, iluvlive with urban development and many others learning from each performance I do and growing in confidence. As of now the only contract that I am in is in regards to the distribution. I have a contract with AWAL and all of my releases go through them with a 15% charge on every release.
