*casually pretends I know how varian got his powers and totally have a plan* And ah darnit now all i can think of is a helpless animatic with quirin and ulla, im not gonna make it but my mind is tho. Ok but seriously I was thinking about Donella and what she wants with his powers, and she just wants to research at first, answer some questions like how it works, what exactly he can do(cuz “ice powers” is a little vague)where it comes from, what his limits r. She’s especially intrigued, bc(1/4)
“ice powers'' could mean controlling snow and as a result could see this as “playing god” or whatever the phrase is. I was kinda thinking a la the sundrop alchemist(u read that right?), but its a little less torture-y and a little more research-y, so she doesnt just hurt him to hurt him. Its more of a“do what i say or i hurt u and/or ur brother”and a“pushing him to his absolute limits”kind of hurt. Outside of that im afraid im at a loss tbh. Does she want to extract his power and sell it?(2/4)
Does she want to sell him? Does she want to use his power against arendelle? Does she want to threaten him to use his powers and commit various crimes(theft maybe?)that will help further her research? If so what is she studying now that requires committing various crimes? Nothing feels right, but i dont have much experience writing her, so ideas r appreciated. But also to answer ur question, anything the citizens heard about were really just that, rumors. Some thought they saw snow indoors(3/4)
when the princes were playing together and thats how it started. Mostly its just something that the local conspiracy theorists obsess over, and is told to children as fun bedtime tales. Also i just wanna thank u 4 all the feedback and questions u give me, it really helps fill in the holes i didnt realize needed filling!(4/4) -💙
Hehehe I feel ya - my brain just comes up with all of these amazing ideas for animatics but I neither have the skill or the talent to make them so I simply enjoy them as daydreams and regular dreams 😂
And yes! I’ve definitely read The Sundrop Alchemist (so flipping good omigosh @whitecatindisguise the angst was wonderful *chef kiss*) so I see what you’re getting there.
So hmm.... research for research’s sake, and in trying to milk out all the information possible on this strange phenomenon (and yeah, magic may be a thing in their world but I wouldn’t think it’s quite common among people themselves) - she probably has an emotional distance to perform those tests, willing to see Varian more as a subject of study rather than a person, which would make it easier to push the limits of said study. So like you said, she’s not hurting just to hurt, but for progress and breakthroughs, you’ve gotta make some sacrifices for the sake of science, amirite? And maybe you’ve gotta provide some incentive for his cooperation but that’s all for the sake of science 🙃
But oof, I feel your struggle. It seems though that she’s a research and knowledge oriented person, so maybe she won’t exactly seek Varian’s powers out to use him in explicitly illegal endeavors but maybe just how to use that knowledge and ability, potentially, for herself? So I wouldn’t think she’d sink to petty thievery but possibly something along the lines of science crossing extreme moral bounds? (All I can think of now is Victor Frankenstein akfjakjs - “the question is not what you can do, the question is what you should do” - paraphrased lyrics but lol, my thoughts)
But ohhhh, I like the idea of the rumors turning into bedtime stories! Like there’s definitely gonna be conspiracy theories but the thought of having them become stories for kids too is a soft thought (I mean, if they’re not like scary stories to make kids be good, you know? 😅)
But ahhhh, no probs!!! I love these thoughts about Donella’s involvement here!!! 😱

“Thirty minutes later than my bedtime, you’ve been fucking my sleep up.” Katsuki tells him pulling him into his chest. “You’ve been fucking my heart up, so it’s only fair.” Shoto says with a smile.
I honstly didn't know what to put the title as so I used a lyric from "disconnected" by 5 seconds of summer.

What I’ve been up to...
So, I obviously haven’t posted in a while. I’ve still been pretty busy though! First off, I’ve made 4 ocean-based subclasses for a friend, and 2 ocean-based subraces! Those, of course, will be done when they’re done, but that’s not all I’ve been working on. I’ve also made 3 short TTRPGs, and one that I am preparing to release in beta. You can find the descriptions and links below the cut!
The first one I made, The Tragic Diary of Dr. Blank is a trivia-based game with a minimum price of $3. I’ll let the first paragraph of the description speak for itself:
Congratulations! You have discovered the The Tragic Diary of Dr. Blank. The Tragic Diary of Doctor Blank is a single-player tabletop role-playing game with a focus on fiction writing and learning. In this edition, you will endeavor to take the Player Character (Or PC) you are playing as from their office to the mesoamerican dig site they’re meant to be working at. As you play, you will be writing passages in a diary from the perspective of the PC. Why is this diary tragic? Well, because it’s very likely you will die. Multiple times.
The next one I made is completely free! Ballad by Design is a game where you and one other player take turns choosing song lyrics that when put together, tell a bedtime story.
The most recent game of mine is called Skeleton Crew, and can be bought for $5. The short pitch is that it’s a game where the players take turns interviewing each other to highlight differences in perspective, and the limitations of perception. Oh, and the PCs are on a rocket that was saved from certain doom by a ghost spaceship.
If none of these sound appealing to you (seriously though, BbD is free, you might as well download it) you can always follow me on twitter for updates, and just general banter, including a Sex in the City 2 livetweet that I still haven’t finished. I’m @The_Forismon.
Also, since this blog is going to be where I post a lot of my dev stuff aside from just 5e, as soon as I have access to my drawing pad I might just rebrand to Brownpaper Games, which is the name of my itch.io page, and my ideal game company name. Let me know what you think, and if you play any of my games, let me know!

Fresh Listen - Comus, To Keep from Crying (Virgin Records, 1974)
(Some pieces of recorded music operate more like organisms than records. They live, they breathe, they reproduce. Fresh Listen is a periodic review of recently and not so recently released albums that crawl among us like radioactive spiders, gifting us with superpowers from their stingers.)
One thing after the other.
Taking in reality, especially through the relentless assault of digital media, is a complicated endeavor. I try my best to sort out what to give a shit about–Meghan Markle’s unique chemistry with the Queen of England, maybe–and what to dismiss, if only because I usually feel so helpless with my notepad and pencil in the coffeeshop, worried about the decisions I’ve made at work while the feds seem hellbent on maintaining the odious practice of separating children from their immigrant parents at the U.S. border, and a potent retweet isn’t going to solve anything.
So I take shortcuts to get through the waking days and nights more efficiently, more effectively. I set goals, get shit done. One thing after the other. If I’m lucky, I’ll lay my head on the bedtime pillow assured that I handled it–the rest, well, it was out of my hands. If I’m lucky, the pernicious memories and the ever-unraveling mysteries won’t haunt me from behind closed eyes, won’t force my attention to everything I missed. Maybe that important thing, that thing that called out for tending, that misread happenstance that maybe, maybe, would dramatically change the rest of my life. I’ve even abdicated my readings of signs and portents, given my certainty that the true horror will reveal itself, whether I understand it in advance or not.
One thing after the other: it’s a way to minimize the frequent seismic shifts of a life I’m trying to simply, quietly get through, making a little money here and there, finding the rare time to read or listen to a record. It’s also the way to suck the vibrancy out of that life, so that all the little moments are spray-painted beige, equalized to the same volume on the mixers of my processing unit. Humiliations and failures carry the same weight as defining accomplishments. I did that, and then I did that. All in the name of getting by, of just trying to wend my way through.
Comus, in their 1974 psychedelic folk-rock album To Keep from Crying, forcefully pushes back on the practice of moving through the world with any semblance of nonchalance, speaking out against protecting one’s sensory intake filters for the sake of one’s sanity or emotional health. For Comus, everything under the sun–humiliations, pencils, pillows, children–is a miracle. There is nothing to be feared or avoided. What is is there to be taken in whole, appreciated, learned from, transcended.
Love, for instance, is not a relationship for Comus. Love is an astounding earth-shake that can knock one’s sense of self completely out of orbit, into a galaxy unrecognizable. Love’s not about giving out phone numbers, or sliding into DM’s–it’s about laying your naked body on the altar of the other person, even if the sacrifice was neither requested nor desired. For Comus, dreams are not coagulations of dharma residue pressure-cooked in the unconscious. Dreams are are the most direct means of communicating desire. The cycle of life itself, as normal as it seems as I stare out the window, watching the traffic, is a stupendous display of unseen energy the wisest of us can only barely comprehend. For Comus, even the most quotidian matters of the human experience are cosmically significant.
The band almost refutes the few records that preceded To Keep from Crying with the album’s first track, “Down (Like a Movie Star).” In a high tenor that would give Geddy Lee a run for his money, singer Roger Wootten rocks out in a manner unprecedented, bass and drums prevailing over the Renaissance-style acoustic guitars carried over from previous albums. Wootten castigates the disenchantment born of commercially sold dreams, characterizing mass media as not simply a psychic emollient, but as a malignant alien laying infected eggs of delusion in the brains of those who slavishly follow its permutations. The “out of touch” victim can’t stop living vicariously through the illusions that have been implanted in her, and when Wootten sings “How long can she live in the past / How long can she last?” the listener gets the sense mass media anesthetizes its viewership, who are all too willing to exchange selfhood for fantasy. Despite the driving beat, the woodwinds give the song a mystical, off-kilter feel, what sounds like an oboe weaving between the voices.
Love is portrayed as a floating, untethered madness on “Touchdown.” Perhaps Comus’s idea of love will never be grounded, especially on a mutable landscape in which “to find reality” becomes the imperative “define reality.” The band’s lyrics, often ironic, never cease to be compelling–alliteration drives the rhyme scheme of the first verses, calling to mind the playful experimentations (most of them successful) of the band Little Wings. “Touchdown,” Wootten whispers at the end of the song, “if you can.” As if the hardest thing in the world is to cease the detachment sponsored by desire and fixation.
Comus buries a couple of tone poems in the psychedelic goulash of To Keep from Crying, minor avant garde notes on the fringe of its fairly straightforward pop-rock numbers. The first, “Waves and Caves,” is a reverb-laden fuzz bass interlude, Wootten’s vocal moaning at the top of it recalling an unquiet spirit in a sealed-off tomb.
Before the drums kick in, “Figure in Your Dreams” comes across as a folk song that could have been played at a country dance during the 16th century. The first number featuring Bobbie Watson as lead vocalist, the song is an oddly timed celebration of the sweetness of possibility, the potential of locking into a loved one’s brainwaves and, maybe only temporarily, standing at the forefront of their wants. So much of desire is raw and unfocused–when it lands on someone, it engenders a sense of purpose, a reason to exhaust ourselves in going through the motions.
With one voice comfortably engraved in the other, Wootten and Watson espouse sci-fi hippie ideals of the time in “Children of the Universe,” in which the the celestial presences in orbit above us, just hanging and glowing with no discernible practical purpose other than to amaze, to press upon us the necessity of inspiration. As seemingly permanent fixtures upon our terminal imaginations, these bodies in the sky suggest to us humans that we might also place into the heavens a forever thought, that once born will never die.
If Comus ever had the potential for even marginal mainstream appeal, I would name “So Long Supernova” as the lead single, a charmingly weird, Poe-like narrative about seeing a long-lost love (”you’re just a nickel from an earlier era”) appearing before the rapacious male gaze. “Materialize, so I can hold ya,” the singer calls out, fruitlessly. Unlike the previous track, “So Long Supernova” doesn’t carry the listener through the dark depths of outer space–the “supernova,” in this case, is the impassioned blast of an unsummoned reminiscence, drilling into the narrator the pangs of unfulfilled longing.
“Perpetual Motion” may be the masterpiece of To Keep from Crying, a somewhat wistful meditation on no less than the force of gravity and the systems of life that carry on just at the edges of our perception. “Artists, scientists, strive to be the masters of” this under-appreciated rotation through the solar system, which should move us to take to our knees and thank the skies every morning. As a tribute, the band mimics perpetual motion at the coda of the song, a circular momentum directing their enthusiastic vocals.
The second of the brief instrumental pieces is “Panophany,” all wet drum sounds ricocheting against one another. “Get Yourself a Man” is Comus’s attempt at slow, simmering soul, though they cunningly insert their brand via a clarinet solo at the outro.
“Hold me naked, in the dancing parlor / Light close, and sacred, warm against your skin so white,” from the title track of To Keep from Crying, comes at the listener as a full turn away from the band’s preoccupations with planetary changes and psychedelic revelations. A waltz, a slow dance, “To Keep from Crying” is refreshingly unironic, simply stating (and stating beautifully) that a body, regardless of its magnitude, is most perfectly complemented by another body, so that the most basic functions of existence can be shared. Bobbie Watson, never shy as a vocalist, evokes here the raw emotive power of early Yoko Ono.
Great art can recalibrate the perceptions, reinstall a sense of wonder in whoever has the opportunity to experience it. Wonder not only at the piece itself, but wonder at everything around us, the unknown and implacable forces that keep all of it going on and on. To Keep from Crying makes a valiant effort to awaken the buried sensitivities in a listenership that has been bludgeoned into numbness by the heartbreaking news from Everywhere.

8 Raw Honey Benefits
8 Raw Honey Benefits
1. Healthy Weight Management
Research studies have linked honey consumption with weight loss. A San Diego State University study found that replacing sugar with honey can actually help prevent packing on extra pounds and also lower blood sugar. The results also suggest that in comparison to sugar, honey may lower serum triglycerides. (3)
Another study from the University of Wyoming found that raw honey can activate hormones that suppress the appetite. In the double-blind randomly assigned study, appetite hormones and glycemic responses were measured in 14 healthy non-obese women after consuming a breakfast containing either honey or sugar. Overall, researchers concluded that honey consumption offers potential obesity protective effects. (4)
2. Counters Pollen Allergies
Raw honey contains bee pollen, which is known to ward off infections, provide natural allergy relief and boost overall immunity. Honey’s ability to prevent allergies is based on a concept called immuno-therapy. How so? The bees in your neighborhood go from flower to flower collecting pollen that causes you to suffer, but when you consume raw honey, you also consume that same offending local pollen. After some time, an allergy sufferer may become less sensitive to this pollen that previously caused problems and experience less seasonal allergy symptoms. Many seasonal allergy sufferers have found local, raw honey to be helpful because it desensitizes them to the fauna triggering their allergic reaction.
A 2013 study found that eating honey at a high dose (one gram per kilogram of body weight of honey daily) can improve allergy symptoms over a period of eight weeks. Researchers absorbed that the honey consumption improved overall and individual symptoms of allergic rhinitis. (5) Allergic rhinitis is an allergic response that causes itchy, watery eyes, sneezing and other similar symptoms.
Some people say that a daily tablespoon of honey can actually act like an allergy shot. The type of honey is key though since pasteurized honey does not contain any pollen. For possible seasonal allergy relief, you need to consume raw honey with pollen in it.
3. Natural Energy Source
Raw honey contains natural sugars (80 percent), water (18 percent), and minerals, vitamins, pollen and protein (2 percent). It’s not surprising that honey has been called “the perfect running fuel.” It provides an easily absorbed supply of energy in the form of liver glycogen, making it ideal for energetic morning starts and as a pre- and post-exercise energy source.
Studies at the University of Memphis Exercise and Sports Nutrition Laboratory have shown honey to be one of the best choices of carbohydrate to consume right before exercising. Additionally, studies have revealed that as a sporting fuel, honey performs on a par with glucose, which is the sugar used in most commercial energy gels. (6)
When it comes to raw honey’s use in athletic endeavors, I highly recommend raw honey for both fueling and recovery. That’s why raw honey is included in some of the best pre-workout snacks and post-workout meals.
4. Antioxidant Powerhouse
Studies have shown that a daily dose of raw honey raises levels of health-promoting antioxidants in the body. Antioxidants help block free radicals in the body that cause disease. It also boosts the immune system, acting as a preventative against any number of diseases. Honey contains polyphenols, which are powerful antioxidants that have been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer.
One study fed 25 subjects about four tablespoons of honey per day for 29 days in addition to their regular diets. When blood samples were taken at the start and end of the study, researchers found a clear, direct link between honey consumption and an increased level of disease-fighting polyphenolsin the blood. (7)
Studies have shown that honey contains the disease-fighting antioxidant flavonoids pinocembrin, pinostrobin and chrysin. (8) Pinocembrin supports enzyme activity, and many studies have shown that pinocembrin induces apoptosis (programmed cell death) of many types of cancer cells. (9) Laboratory research suggests that chrysin may increase the male hormone testosterone and improve bodybuilding results, but human research hasn’t found any effect on testosterone levels.
5. Sleep Promoter
Raw honey promotes restorative sleep in two ways. By consuming honey before bedtime, it restocks the liver’s glycogen supply and prevents the brain from triggering a crisis search for fuel, which can wake you up. Secondly, eating raw honey fosters the release of melatonin in the brain by creating a small spike in insulin levels, which stimulates the release of tryptophan in the brain. Tryptophan converts to serotonin, which is then converted to melatonin. (11)
Melatonin also boosts immunity and helps rebuild tissue during periods of rest. Poor sleep, by comparison, has been shown to be a risk factor for hypertension, obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke and arthritis. As honey is a proven natural sleep aid, it naturally lowers the risk of all these health problems.
6. Wound and Ulcer Healer
Honey-infused bandages are known to aid healing. Peter Charles Molan at the University of Waikato, New Zealand, has found in multiple studies that honey is a natural antibacterial with wound-healing effects. He also found that honey reacts with the body’s fluids to make hydrogen peroxide, creating an inhospitable environment for bacteria. In addition, “Concentrations of hydrogen peroxide generated are very low in comparison to those typically applied to a wound, thus, cytotoxic damage by hydrogen peroxide is very low.” (12a, 12b)
For the treatment of burns and wounds, honey is typically applied directly to the problem area or in a dressing that’s changed every 24 to 48 hours. Sometimes the dressing is left in place for up to 25 days. (13) A combination of honey and ghee has also been advocated and used as dressing for infected wounds since 1991 in four Mumbai hospitals. (14)
Honey has been studied for its use in effectively treating various types of ulcers as well. Honey may reduce the size, pain and odor of problematic skin ulcers. (15)
7. Diabetes Aid
Consumption of raw honey can reduce the risk of developing diabetes and help aid medication used to treat diabetes. The combination of raw honey and cinnamon can be especially beneficial to healthy blood sugar management, as well as many other health concerns like gingivitis and acne.
According to a study out of Dubai, honey has been observed to cause a lower elevation of plasma glucose levels in diabetics compared to dextrose and sucrose. Some suggest that the insulin-boosting power of cinnamon can counteract this glucose elevation in honey, which would make your honey and cinnamon mixture a low glycemic index food combination. (16)
Raw honey increases insulin and decreases hyperglycemia. Try consuming a little at a time and see how your blood sugar reacts to it, and add both raw honey and cinnamon to your diabetic diet plan.
8. Natural Cough Syrup
Raw honey has been shown to be as effective in treating coughs as over-the-counter commercial cough syrups. Increasing scientific evidence shows that a single dose of honey can reduce mucus secretion and coughs. In one study, honey was just as effective as diphenhydramine and dextromethorphan, common ingredients found in over-the counter cough medicines.

TĀLĀ - Bedtime
Off the press from her newly-minted label Duchess Records, British-Iranian songstress TĀLĀ releases her latest track “Bedtime”. With her latest single, it’s a track that is characteristically her’s, where her silken tones meet the distinctive squeak pf her pitch-bending production. Hook-laden over the heart-racing throb of its bumping percussion, TĀLĀ wrote the cathartic “Bedtime” to put her worries to rest as she explains,
"When I wrote Bedtime I was going through a lot of personal trauma in my life. I’d gone through the worst break up situation and felt like I’d lost a lot of important people in my life all at once.
The night I wrote 'Bedtime' I was in the studio with (producer) Robbie (McDade) who I’ve written a lot of the album with. I remember showing him all these lyrics I had and then I just jumped on the mic, freestyling just how I was feeling. It was very in the moment and very real. It felt like an integral part of my album was going to be in the lyrics. I wanted it to reflect the raw emotion that I was going through at that time.”
You can check out the video for “Bedtime” and her previous endeavor “Stay Here in the Sun” with its accompanying acoustic version:
