An article published in the "Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology" reports the identification of a carnivorous dinosaur that lived in today's Portugal between 153 and 145 million years ago, in the Jurassic period. A team of researchers led by Dr. Elisabete Malafaia of the Portuguese University of Lisbon named it Lusovenator santosi and attributed it to the Carcharodontosauria group, part of the larger group of allosaurs, carnivorous dinosaurs that were superpredators in their ecosystems. This species is very ancient within its group and its discovery offers some new information on the first phase of these dinosaurs' diversification, which is currently poorly known due to the scarcity of fossils.

Un’équipe di paleontologi provenienti dal Portogallo e dalla Spagna ha trovato frammenti fossili di un nuovo genere e di una nuova specie di dinosauro carcarodontosauro.

Il nuovo dinosauro, scientificamente chiamato Lusovenator santosi, visse in quello che oggi è il Portogallo tra 153 e 145 milioni di anni fa (periodo giurassico).

Un articolo pubblicato sulla rivista "Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology" riporta l'identificazione di un dinosauro carnivoro che visse nell'odierno Portogallo tra 153 e 145 milioni di anni fa, nel periodo Giurassico. Un team di ricercatori guidato dalla dottoressa Elisabete Malafaia dell'Università portoghese di Lisbona l'ha chiamato Lusovenator santosi e l'ha attribuito al gruppo dei carcarodontosauri, a sua volta parte del più vasto gruppo degli allosauri, dinosauri carnivori che erano superpredatori nei loro ecosistemi. Questa specie è molto antica all'interno del suo gruppo e la sua scoperta offre qualche nuova informazione sulla prima fase della diversificazione di questi dinosauri, che al momento è poco conosciuta a causa della scarsità di fossili.
