After using Paiste 2002s for years I started looking for cymbals with a much shorter controlled decay. I didn't want to get in the way of the vocals all the time. I liked the sound of the Sabians on a Rockschool Grade Six performance video - I contacted the drummer to ask the identity of the cymbal set up and they turned out to be AAXplosions. I bought a 15" cymbal as a test. I fell instantly in love. It sounded like someone was catching/damping the cymbal every time I hit it. I loved it. Just what I wanted. Loving the new @gibraltarhardware. Flat based. Lightweight. Strong. Adjustable. Just the best hardware I have ever used. Getting easier to set up every time - flat bases require a little finesse in positioning, as you can imagine. Over the years I've used Pearl, Tama and Yamaha - single braced Premier has been my favourite. Its always been a balance between stability and weight. Too much weight and transportation is impractical. Too unstable and I couldn't trust it to hold my cymbals and drums. But this stuff is outstanding. So easy to carry. Everything in one bag when I used to have to split between two. Once set up, I forget about it whilst I play. Another outing for my custom* Ludwig Rocker - this time at the Dirty Duck with @jacuzzisoup_band. This time I used 14" AAXplosion hi-hats; 18" AAXplosion crash; 10" Stagg splash; 21" Dry Raw Bell ride. After this gig's experience I still think I prefer the 20" AAXplosion crash in place of the ride. BTW at the end of the video you can see the TEMPO app which I use to check my tempos during the gig - my secret weapon.
