idk why (other than the fear of my credits expiring) but something possessed me to buy a few audiobooks of the babysitter's club (namely "the truth about stacey", "stacey's emergency", "kristy and the snobs", "keep out, claudia!", and "claudia and the terrible truth") to see if they were as narmy-yet-good as people say so here's my current takeaways from my binge:

- why do they treat stacey's diabetes like some big scandalous thing?? like i understand that it was the 80's/90's, she's a preteen, treatment and management weren't as advanced back then as they are now (etc.) but they honestly make it sound like some kind of unspeakable horror at time (source: i have a type 1 diabetic sister who was diagnosed at age 12)

- ngl, claudia and kristy sound like the kind of kids i would've hung out with in middle school; i would say mary anne too, but she is deadass just what i was like at that age lmao

- i REFUSE to read / listen to "claudia and the sad goodbye", yes i know what happens but i refuse to make myself endure that

- the kids they watch range from either really friggin cute to brats that you can TELL the parents implanted that in them

- LOUIEEEEEEE 😭😭😭

- i didn't expect "claudia and the terrible truth" to be as realistically horrifying as it was...BIG abuse tw for that one, just saying to anyone who might consider looking into it, it hit pretty close at home for me personally except some aspects were different

- okay but can we stan stacey for that reverse psychology bullshit she pulled on those stuck-up neighbor kids??? i need to take some notes

- "all the children" sounds like an indie band and i love it

- the racist mom in "keep out, claudia!" was deadass vile, but i have to agree with the girls and feel sorry for her kids and only hope that they grew out of it and realized their mother was a bigoted bitch with no decency

- one of the main characters is ALSO named dawn and she's honestly almost my polar opposite lmao

- stacey's mom and dad??? i have no words, jesus christ people either go to marriage counselling or get a divorce

idk how far i'll go into the series, but that's what i got out of it so far

#oh this'll be dumb #dawn speaks #babysitters' club #the babysitters club #bsc #i remember skimming through the new netflix series a few months ago and then forgot about it #but the books aren't as cheesy or dated as i thought they'd be at first #kinda like with captain planet where i thought but ended up enjoying it for the most part #eh we'll see
