Hi! Little update on the Quizlet-like app, henceforth known and tagged as Innaflash. (One of my friend's ideas, and I'm a sucker for puns :) )
Tl;dr of below is i'd like opinions on the UI mockup so far, maybe some alternative color theme ideas.
No coding has happened yet, but I started making a UI mockup to get the brain juices going and also bc i just love messing around with color themes and graphic design, hee hee. I think I'm going with a webcore theme. Default will be purple, but there will be the option to change the theme (i already have the code for this so it's easy to implement). A couple images are above, I'd like to hear what you all think :)

anyone want to read a chapter for me?
No commitment to a full novel (it's just the one chapter)!
Really, I just need someone (or a few folks) to compare what I wrote to some developmental feedback I got in October on my off-Tumblr YA fantasy novel. I want to know if I'm on the right track before I get too deep into rewrites.
I wrote a new Chapter 1 based on the editor's suggestions, but I'm not 100% sure about it and would love to know:
a) Did I understand the assignment?

b) Did I do well on the assignment?
c) Is it worth going on from this starting point, or should I keep thinking?
In return, I can offer a swap! You read & give feedback on my chapter, I'll do the same for yours!
deets: YA fantasy with a bit of magic, third-person POV, young woman protagonist, contains loneliness/social isolation, bullying (verbal and physical), and insects
Word count: 4470 words
A descriptive snippet:
The palace proper was beautiful, but the sprawling nature of Rana was what made it particularly lovely; the city was peppered with ancient trees, cheery and green in most seasons but especially vibrant in spring and summer. To the north lay the gold-and-purple grass plains that stretched on, seemingly forever; to the south, lush woodlands gave way to damp, wild rainforest the closer they got to the coast.
In her more immediate locale were the vast grounds: endless rolling lawns, gardens brimming with both crops and decorative plants—multicoloured grasses with fluffy seeds drifting in the breeze, brightly hued flowers coating the ground and dripping from trees that cast long, cooling shadows over the spring-warmed ground.
A more upsetting snippet:
“It wasn’t me,” Nalia said, trying to keep her voice even. She took a few steps, then faltered again. Perhaps she didn’t want Davina knowing where she slept.
Too late, however, she realized that pausing had been a grave mistake. Wind-worn brick scraped against her back when Davina grabbed hold of her wrist, spun her around, and shoved her into the wall.
“Are you as stupid as you look?” she demanded, releasing Nalia’s wrist but forming a cage with her arms on either side of Nalia’s head. “I said, I know it was you.”

Thinking about making a free quizlet alternative in java, I'd like suggestions on modes to add. Maybe I'll put it on github or something if I end up with a usable product so others can use it? (More details under cut)
Using quizlet for the first time in awhile and DAMN it sucks. Not only was the whole UI changed and made worse/ more corporate, EVERYTHING requires a membership now??? The asteroid mode (my favorite </3) was either removed or made pay only. Literally scrapping what i can thats free to study. Ik i can get a free trial but its about the principal.
ANYWAY. I've been building a java library that builds off FX (graphics library) that has made making programs w/ graphics quicker and easier. Plus, I already made a typing game similar to the asteroid mode in high school. Basically everything would be super easy to code I think, once I have the time.
Any suggestions on modes/ features I should make?

i hope 2023 has been treating everyone well

i'm thinking of opening art commissions again, i'm not so sure what to promote so i'm hoping people can give me their opinions
here's my last commission sheet:
it's hard to say what sold "the best" since i mainly got orders from reoccuring clients/friends (to whom i am extremely grateful for), so it's hard to gauge what exactly i should prioritise
while i wish i could constantly provide all options all the time, i have to take into account my personal limits and i found i hit a lot of art lows in 2022, which i don't want impacting my clients
i'm still pretty new to this, having only started in 2021, so i'm appreciative of any and all advice :)

The Prince of Thieves (new and improved) - looking for readers!
For the last few months, I've been working on editing The Prince of Thieves, a story novel which was originally published on Tumblr and ao3 between October 2022 and June 2023. As I work through the last few chapters and prepare to write the new opening, I thought I'd put out some feelers...
By the end of this month (hopefully), I'll be seeking feedback on this manuscript!
I would love to connect with folks who are:
okay with whump (I would never call my writing gory, but there is LOTS of angst, captivity and restraints, hopelessness, torture, illness and bodily injury)

Below is a more blurb-y blurb:
The goal of Iustitia aecum, the notorious thieving gang, is to steal from the rich and give to the poor. For a few years, that’s exactly what Jamie, Will, Colette, and Geoff (as the gang’s inner circle) do; they slip through the fingers of the law time and time again.
One day, everything goes wrong.

It’s cold up here on the roof of the boarding house—that’s why no one else is up here, probably—but there’s something delightfully bracing about the wind scrubbing the day’s dust from my skin while the stars gaze down. It’s delicious, almost wicked, to peer into the city streets from so high.
Up here, no one else can see me. Up here, no one can say a damn thing when I pull up my sleeves. There’s no one to gasp or gawk as I reveal the soft, scandalous flesh of my arms and trace my fingers along, throwing into sharp relief what must remain invisible at all other times: black-as-night ink painted on the canvas of my skin.
It’s a shame the tattoo would send me to prison if the constables saw it, because it’s beautiful. Sometimes I just stare down at the details—the leaves bursting from a tree in full bloom, the ring around its swirling, entwined roots. Would anyone else, other than my fellow runners or the constabulary, know what it means if they caught a glimpse? I’m not so sure, but they’d certainly be confused if they saw it on my arm. Silas Cooper’s daughter, tattooed like a common criminal? A gentlewoman like her? How? Why? What happened?
I scowl into the night. Breanna Cooper died with Silas, or at least I like to think she did. When I think back on the girl who stumbled, dry-eyed, away from her father’s deathbed and then ran from the man she was supposed to marry, out into a chilly autumn night much like the one I’m gazing into now, I don’t recognize her—don’t recognize myself. That girl ran into a life of nothing, yes. But isn’t that also what she ran away from?

Well howdy hey!
I think this is like my first actual proper brew on this blog (not just a shitpost or reblog or something), and BOIIII is it a big one!
I've had this concept in my head since like probably October or November, and I've always been really intimidated by actually making it (since a REALLY big majority of homebrew classes I see online are horrifically unbalanced), but over this week I put myself to getting concepts organized and getting it out!
The main theme behind it is a sort of pugilist/simple weapons martial class that enhances their strikes with spellcasting (like Divine Smite, but more sorcerer-y). The flavor is where each character of this class has the soul of a great being (a dragon, demon, celestial, etc) embedded in their own, and that's how they draw their power. TL;DR - if monk and sorcerer fucked.
I really tried to aim for a more damage-focused base vibe with it, having it be able to dole out a healthy amount of lesser attacks at once and keep up with some potent spellcasting. BUT, it is not NEARLY finished, and I'd love to hear everyone's feedback on how to make it better!
Currently I'm looking at:
-Nerfing or outright replacing the 14th level feature
-Possible changes to the spell progression? (specifically cantrips)
-The spell list is not NEAR its final stage, so suggestions for additions or removals are among the most welcome.
-I like the concept of the subclasses, and especially how their theorem turned out, but I'm not really sure how effective they are as a whole.
