Staking My Claim Part 3
Hey, guys! We're back!
Part 1 Part 2
We finally get the lowdown on what happened. Otherwise known as don't mess with Jeff.
Robin freaks out.
And Gareth is loaded. Or at least his parents are. ;)
I'm also going to try tagging the untaggables separate and see if you can't get you lovelies tagged.
@redfreckledwolf, @mira-jadeamethyst, @itsall-taken, @emly03, @rozzieroos
***
He hurried over to the phone and called Family Video.
“Hello, thank you for calling Family Video,” the soft female voice said. “How can I help you?”
“Robin!” he cried again. “I’m so sorry!”
“Steve!” Robin shrieked. “Where have you been? Are you okay? You’re not in the hospital or jail are you? What happened?”
“I’m not in jail or the hospital,” he assured her. Eddie huffed out a laugh. He whirled around to stick his tongue out at him. “I’m okay. I’m still in Indy. I just landed at some friendly metalheads’ apartment.”
“Wait...” Robin said. “Those friendly metalheads wouldn’t happen to include one Eddie Munson, would it?”
Steve looked over at said metalhead and turned away to hide his blush. “Maybe,” he mumbled into the phone.
“Hell yeah!” she crowed. “Now tell me what happened now!”
Steve pressed his lips together. “Um...to be honest...I’m not one hundred percent sure I know what happened last night. Like I remember bits and pieces, but it all kinda blurs together.”
Eddie walked over and pointed to the phone. “May I?”
Steve nodded and hand it to him.
“Robin?” Eddie asked. “This is Eddie Munson.”
“Hello, Eddie,” she said coolly. “Would you like to explain why my best friend isn’t, I don’t know, home?”
“I would love you to tell you that story if it’s okay with Steve finding out by me telling you?” Eddie questioned, looking over at Steve.
He shrugged and waved his hand for him to go ahead.
“He’s says it’s fine,” Eddie said.
“Noted,” Robin said. “Now spill.”
So Eddie did. He told her about the sleazeball at the bar who wouldn’t take no for an answer. About his daring rescue of pretending to be his boyfriend.
Steve blushed when he heard Robin go, “Awww,” at that.
Eddie grinned at him. Then he launched into the actual fucking rescue. It turned out that Mr. Persistent bumped into Steve to lace his drink with a drug to knock him out.
Steve’s eyes went wide. “He did what now?”
Eddie hummed. “Yeah...it was this whole thing. Jeff even got to punch the guy in the nose. I think the bartender has a crush on him now.”
Steve’s eyebrows went up. The bartender was a thirty something Asian dude with tattoos and piercings. But he supposed it made sense, considering the bar’s general attitude toward that specific portion of the population.
“At least he’ll get free drinks for life, right?” Robin said with a chuckle.
“That’s certainly one way to look at it,” Eddie agreed. “So yeah, this dude bumps into Steve and suddenly our friend is getting tipsy, fast. And I’ve been at many a rager to ply my wares, there was no way Keg King Steve was drunk after two beers, a margarita, and a half of a Cosmo.” The half a Cosmo was from sharing with Gareth.
Steve blushed. He wasn’t proud of those wild days in high school, but it probably saved his life in this case.
“Yeah...” Robin agreed. “I’ve seen him drink men under the table who were bigger and had been drinking longer.”
Eddie nodded even though she couldn’t seen him, but Steve could.
“Then the asshole comes over and starts flirting with Steve again, trying to draw him away,” he continued. “That’s when we really got that Steve wasn’t acting normal. So Brian steps in and tells asshole to leave him alone. But this guy has gone past persistent and into full creep territory.”
“Eww...” Robin hissed. “How did Jeff get his punch in?”
Eddie chuckled. “That’s honestly the best part, so Brian and Gareth take Steve out to my van and I go and get the bouncer. We come back and asshole is trying to get past Jeff to make his escape. So he takes a swing at Jeffy.”
“Bad idea, I’m guessing?” she said with a hint of laughter in her voice.
Steve tilted his head in interest and Eddie fought down a smile.
“Jeff’s dad is a former boxer who taught him how to fight to make the bullies leave him alone.”
Steve’s eyes go wide and Robin said, “Oooh. Please tell me he laid this asshole out! Please!”
“Dude stiffened like a board and went straight down,” Eddie confirmed. “The only downside is that they couldn’t prove anything, so he just got tossed out, but make no mistake, they’ll make sure spread the word around the other gay bars about this guy.”
“That’s good,” Robin agreed.
Steve wandered back over to his food, safe in the knowledge that he was in safe hands.
Jeff and Brian were at the counter grabbing their breakfast so Steve joined them. Coffee was was doled out by Eddie a few moments later.
Creamer, milk, and sugar were placed next to the coffee pot.
“Robin says not worry about coming into work,” Eddie murmured to Steve. “She said she would tell Keith you have the stomach flu. Which according to her will get you at least three days off.”
“That’s pretty impressive,” Brian said. “I don’t think there is anything I could tell my boss short of being in the hospital that would get me even a couple of hours off.”
Steve laughed. “Keith has a weak stomach. You just mention vomiting and the dude turns green.”
“Handy that,” Eddie said with a smile.
“It’s very handy when you’re out drinking and drink too much,” Steve said with a shrug.
“I’ll say,” Jeff said. “I’m just glad we were there, man.”
Steve blushed. “Yeah, me too.”
He dug into his food and was happy to note that while it didn’t necessarily ease the queasiness in his stomach, it didn’t make him want to throw it all back up, either.
He cleared his plate.
“So this is what’s going to happen, Stevie,” Eddie said as he cleaned up the pans from breakfast, “you are going to stay here until I am sure one hundred percent that you won’t throw up on the three hour journey back to Hawkins.”
Steve opened his mouth to argue, but he couldn’t. Right now nothing was coming up, but put him in a moving vehicle and he couldn’t say for sure that breakfast wouldn’t come right back up.
He nodded.
“I gave Robin the address so she’ll be stopping by after she gets off work,” Eddie continued. “I recommend that you get so actual rest, she seems like she’s a lot without her worrying about you, I can only imagine what she’s like when she is.”
Steve blushed.
“We’re going to all stay here,” Gareth said. “At least for one more day. I talked to my mom about it and she would rather pay more for utilities this month then worry about Steve getting worse.”
The other boys nodded their agreement, while Steve blinked at him in confusion.
“What now?”
“You do realize I live in Loch Nora, right?” Gareth asked, raising an eyebrow.
Steve shook his head. “My parents were very much exclusionists, dude. I only got to hang out with people that they deemed acceptable. Nicole, Carol, Tommy H. If they thought they weren’t in the right trade or held more liberal views, they weren’t worthy to interact with their son.”
Gareth blinked. “Fuck, that must have been lonely.”
He ducked his head and half shrugged.
“Anyway,” Gareth continued into the now deafening silence. “They pay for this apartment in the city for when we play gigs or need a place to crash after a night of drinking.”
Steve frowned. “You’re not eighteen yet, though, right?”
“No,” Gareth said with a laugh. “But my parents trust these guys to keep me safe.”
Steve thought about Dustin and his mom. That despite all the things that Steve had gotten up to in his high school career that she still trusted him to take care of her baby.
“Yeah,” he said fondly. “I can see that.”
Eddie came over to the other side of the counter. “Come on, up you get. You’ll be sleeping in my room.”
Steve’s eyes widened. “How many rooms does this place have?”
“Three,” Jeff said. “Brian shares with Gareth, but Eddie and I get our own rooms.”
“That’s because you’re both sluts,” Brian said rolling his eyes, “and me and Gareth don’t want to be kicked out of our rooms when you bring someone home.”
Steve laughed. “Yeah, okay. That’s fair.”
“I’ll give you the tour when I steer you back to my room,” Eddie promised.
Steve nodded and allowed himself to be lead back through the apartment and back to the bedroom.
Eddie tucked him back in and put a garbage can next to the bed. “I’ll be out in the front room, holler if you need me.”
Steve nodded and let himself drift off to sleep.
***
Part 4 Part 5 Part 6
Yeah, I'm sorry, I doubt even a middle class family would buy their very young son (if we hold to the belief that Gareth is OG drummer and was in the talent show with Eddie and Chrissy, putting Eddie in 8th grade, Chrissy in 6th, that would make Gareth in 5th grade) a drum kit.

Helloooo pacer!! DID YOU GET ANY NICE GIFTS THIS YEAR ^_^!???!! What's the pacer haul? It's sooooooooo crazy that you're so open with your fans. You're like this century's meowdonna and her documentary truth or dare!! But on tumblr!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Pacesetter holds out each gift as he mentions them.
"Buck got me a black jack kit. During the party he opened it and started playing it with the rest of the guests, even though it was my gift. Brian's was a calculator. I feel like he was mocking me in some way, but I didn't get it. I threw it away, obviously. Mary made me a shell bracelet. It's a nice gesture, I guess, but I won't be caught dead with something so ugly around my wrist. Misty's was alright, at least she put in the effort. It's a pretty high quality pink guitar pick. I don't really use picks, but it will look nice in my collection. Holly got me a...dusty old manuscript? I don't know, it's just a big book with some illustrations. I've been trying to clean the dust off, but it's just making my room dirty. I don't have Prester's with me. It was just a...torch...a flaming torch...Flint seemed excited about it so I gave it to him. Ben gave me some high quality tea. I'm not much of a tea fan, but I can appreciate the quality, must've been expensive. I like that. Oh right, Cathal's... It's a bag full of very expensive food items that I just know he didn't pick out. I'm sure his dad was the one that did. It wasn't even wrapped. This album came from Dave. You can tell because it's his new album actually. I was planning on getting it anyways, so this saved me some cogbucks, I guess. Belle brought in some cookies. Flint told me these were pretty good, although they do look a bit burnt... Cosmo got me a coupon for a large pizza. I don't like going to his establishment so I'm not sure what to do with this. I also feel like he just looked under his desk and got me the first thing he saw. Chip and Spruce made me a wood carving statue thing. It would look nice if it weren't bear shaped. I don't know why they couldn't sculpt something that I would like, such as my face or my guitar. Tawney's gift was some acoustic foam panels. I'm not sure if I should put them up, how else are people gonna listen to my sick guitar solos?" "And the best gift, of course, was Flint's. Apparently he's been going to knitting lessons with Belle, so he knitted me a sweater, made to match his scarf. It looks perfect, it's pink, purple and it has guitar motifs. It does look burnt in the back though, something that Flint apologized profusely for, even offering to trade with his scarf. But nope, I would say the burn marks make it look even better, reminds me of him when I wear it." "Meanwhile, I gave everyone at the party a sick performance. They were absolutely wowed by me, of course. I also gave me them some other gifts but this one was the best, for sure. For Flint I gave him an extra song, a private performance just for him. And..." He trails off, squeezing something in his pocket. "No, yeah, that was it..." DAY 22

Good friend, I ask of you because I trust you, what are these "The Mechanisms" you are so fond of?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay I tried to type out an incredibly long summary but tumblr deleted it so you're getting a semi-sane version instead
The Mechanisms are a band of immortal, space-faring pirates travelling the universe singing about the tragedies they witness for our entertainment!
There are nine main members you'll hear about, with the tenth - Dr Carmilla - having left much earlier and making her own music 👍 ( there is technically an eleventh but they're more of a mystery easter egg than anyone we know things about )
Quick lore thing: the mechanisms immortality works from the mechanical part(s) they each have. They can die and get injured, but they'll revive whenever the narrative wants them too. All logic in this universe functions off of Would It Be Good For The Story
The cast is:
Jonny D'Ville (he/him) is the ship's first mate ( don't let him tell you otherwise ) and he's got a mechanical heart
Nastya Rasputina (she/her) is the ship's engineer and girlfriend! Yea the ship - Aurora - is alive btw. She's got me hanical blood
Ashes O'Reily (they/them) is the ship's quartermaster and best arsonist! they've got mechanical lungs
Drumbot Brian (he/him) is the ship's pilot and the only one with a moral code. It's controlled by a switch which flips between Means Justify Ends and Ends Justify Means with no nuance. everything is mechanical except for his heart
Ivy Alexandria (she/her) is the ship's archivist! Pretty chill, cares more for books than violence but that doesn't mean she disapproves of the latter. she's got a mechanical brain
The Toy Soldier (it/its) is the mascot and whatever else they tell it to be! it just wants to be involved. will follow anything you tell it if you ask nicely ( or with enough force ). it's not actually mechanized, and is instead a sentient wooden man
Gunpowder Tim (he/him) is the ship's master at arms! madman war veteran who I love dearly. he blew up the moon. he's great. I pick favourites. he's got mechanical eyes
Raphaella La Cognizi (she/her) is the ship's unethical scientist! nothing is off the table when it comes to research. nothing. theory is she mechanized her, but iirc that unconfirmed. she's got a mechanical spine and wings!
and Baron Marius Von Raum (he/him) who is neither the ships baron nor doctor. he claims to be both, though. Deeply unserious fella. he's got a mechanical arm
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
^ here are some good images for crew reference
OKAY! Now onto actual music
They have six albums and a couple singles!
Once Upon a Time (In Space) is an unconventional retelling of classic fairytales
High Noon over Camelot is a retelling of King Arthur
Ulysses Dies at Dawn is a greek mythos adaptation
and The Bifrost Incident is a norse mythos adaptation
there's also Tales To Be Told volumes I and II, and the two single Frankenstein and Death To The Mechanisms ( technically that one is part of an album but the album is just a bunch of their other songs from already existing albums )
The tales to be told albums contain some of the mechanisms origins!
One Eyed Jacks is Jonny's
Lucky Sevens is Ashes'
Lost In The Cosmos is Brian's
and Gunpowder Tim vs The Moon Kaiser I don't think I have to say
Nastya has an origin song, but it was never officially put on anything. You can find it on the @mechanismslorearchive ( you can get any lore you want on there )
They also have a number of live shows ( you can find those on youtube ) and written stories on their website! I recommend these if you wanna get to know the mechanisms as characters better
that is the basic rundown. I'm not an expert on the mechs so if you're looking to talk to a metaphorical seasoned nurse instead of a med student I'd go to @bugsinthebayou or @gunpowderdtim (sorry for tagging yall)

hello, mechanisms enjoyer. who is your favourite mechanism. what is your favourite album. what is your favourite song. what is your favourite photo. do you have a favourite live recording.
I have already been asked lol but im happy to answer again!
I dont have a favourite mech but here’s some random facts. I was obsessed with ts when I first saw them and I spent like four months drawing nothing but it. I got into the mechs through Tma and jonny and he is such a bastard I love him (looking back on my dash you’ll see the dehumanisation of jonny in art I blog). The only mech ive cosplayed is raph in both her more humanly form and her more birdy form. Again ashes was someone I was already familiar with because of frank being in Tma (same with Jess and Jonny) and id heard about Tim through rqg mentions etc. I wish I had more to say about ivy, nastya, Marius, Brian etc but tbh I just dont. I love them but dont know much about them outside of the mechs and never felt quite so drawn to them.
My favourite album again isnt just one. Id say of the main studio albums its a tossup between tbi and udad. Again I love them all but I listen to those the most. Ttbt 1&2 are also constantly playing (lost in the cosmos was my top song in my wrapped) and I listen to them probably the same amount. Also Frankenstein oml I love you mwah im so normal about it and im totally not an English nerd studying classic literature at college😅😅😅.
I feel like favourite song kinda falls into the same vein as the last question. While i cant actually pick my top 5 (in my wrapped) were lost in the cosmos, Loki, ties that bind, underworld blues and sirens so think of that what you will. I said this last time but I have a chronically short attention span so often ttbt songs are the best way to get my fix without having to listen to a whole album. Im sorry mechs purists but most of the time i dont listen in order cause who can be asked with that.
I dont actually have a favourite photo but I’ll add a bunch of my widgets from my phone because ofc I had to make my Home Screen mech based. (Art by @reegis)
In regards to live performances I guess dttm. Its the first live performance I watched thats actually mechs. I love lashings a “totally normal amount” but considering thats more Carmilla era idk if it counts. Either way its those two and I know some of yall are doing amazing work cleaning up the audio and getting transcripts made so send them my way if you want id love to see them.

force the managers to play toono with each other all at once. yes the biggest toono game you can get is 6 players. but i think a 16 player toono match would be the biggest shitshow known to man and itd be hilarious
Random Corporate Clash Headcanons, They're All Playing Toono Together Edition
TLDR: Brian {kinda}, Holly {kinda}, Ben, Cosmo, Spruce, and Graham have constant beef. Belle tries to defuse it all and semi succeeds. Buck is laughing the entire time and keeps getting crazy good or crazy bad luck. Oh and he's eating his cards. Graham wins and Spruce flips the table
Duck Shuffler
🎰Eats his cards when nobody's looking LOL
🎰Either has astronomically amazing luck or terrible luck
🎰Laughs constantly throughout the game regardless of what is happening. It is all funny to him. He's having a great time
Prethinker
🧠Scoffs and tries to leave. Several times
🧠Says that someone as smart as him couldn't possibly enjoy partaking in a game that relies on chance so heavily
🧠If he loses he still gets really upset even though he keeps trying to rationalize he essentially had a 1/16 chance of winning
🧠He uh... he gets into some fights and arguments
Deep Diver
🫧Just has a good time on his own and doesn't really say anything
🫧Might laugh at some people's misfortunes
🫧She does give a few glares at +4s though
Rainmaker
⛈️Refuses to play +2s or +4s because she doesn't want the next person over to hate her
⛈️Unless someone prompts her to be competitive or teases or makes fun of her. Then suddenly she will get VERY competitive and determined to win. All those +2s and +4s she's been saving get placed down
⛈️She might cry if someone's especially rude when they tease her
Gatekeeper
⚔️Says she highly disapproves of playing such a game, but since she's forced to that's the only reason she is
⚔️Still gets VERY upset when she gets a +2 or +4 though. If she loses? Yeah that makes her mad too
⚔️But she doesn't care though! Totally!
Witch Hunter
🔱Tries everything in his power to escape
🔱Does NOT enjoy playing whatsoever
Bellringer
🔔He will do everything in his power to win, including coming up with plots with everyone else to mess with someone who only has 1-2 cards left by giving them a massive +16 or something
🔔Oh yeah, he will also resort to gossiping to try to keep everyone distracted about how few cards he has. Or ringing his bell really loud to bring attention to his head instead of his hands
🔔Will often act distracted and try to point everyone's attention to things outside the game. Not to cheat, just to distract everyone else from his hand and make him seem like a non-threat
Multislacker
🥪He eat sammich the whole time lol
🥪Literally couldn't care less about who wins or loses and just picks whatever card works when it's his turn
🥪He does find the constant bickering ond banter mildly amusing, though
Mouthpiece
☎️She made everyone cookies to enjoy during the game!
☎️ Doesn't really care what happens as long as everyone's having fun
☎️Tries to stop arguments and reminds everyone it's just a game and not that serious. She doesn't realize part of the fun of Toono is those arguments
Major Player
🎹You can tell that he's secretly mad when he doesn't win, but he plays it cool
🎹Makes a big show of himself to everyone
🎹He was secretly recording the entire game and uploads it to YouTube when it's done
Firestarter
🔥You can tell he's pretty guilty when he has to play a +2 or +4, but he only looks away quietly
🔥Graham insisted on sitting next to him so poor Flint gets extra guilt
🔥He doesn't really talk much and gets pretty freaked out by the loud arguments
Plutocrat
🌑Gets kinda upset when he doesn't win or when something goes poorly for him and he starts up arguments about it
🌑 Threatens that he's gonna have his Satellite Investors "persuade" them to join if they don't knock it off
🌑Even if he just seems really grumpy the whole time, he actually had a lot of fun. He just won't tell anyone about it
Treekiller
🪵Gets into a LOT of arguments over the game
🪵He takes it just a bit too seriously, for some reason. Like, just a tad? Like, he's genuinely kinda upset and kinda joking along?
🪵He flips the table at the end
Chainsaw Consultant
🪚Really quiet the entire time
🪚Kinda "Hmm" and "Hmph"s through it, but does occasionally actually speak
🪚Refuses to get mad or participate in the arguments
🪚Clearly finds amusement in sending out +4s, though
Featherbedder
💤Keeps falling asleep
💤Is just too tired to do or say much other than just play the game
Pacesetter
👟Well of COURSE someone as perfect as him is gonna win!
👟Insists on sitting next to Flint. There's a good amount of PDA
👟He'll act like he's being his usual impatient self and force everyone to play fast but he's ACTUALLY playing the long con. He actually has a strategy
👟He waits until he only has wild cards, +4s, and +2s. Then just plays those one at a time until he wins
👟Then Spruce flips the table and he gets mad

Feel free to use these ideas if you want! You do not need to credit me, but just let me know you did so I can read it.
Details for the story ideas under the cut
Kidnapped and forced to do maths
Pretty self-explanatory, they get locked in cells equipped with digital blackboards and stuff and can’t leave until they answer enough questions right. Penalties for wrong answers is death. Perhaps opportunities for teamwork?
Kipo and the age of Wonderbeasts au
Might not make sense if you haven’t seen Kipo but Carmilla uses megamute dna to try and make humans able to live on the surface, but after getting kicked out of her burrow, she has to wander the surface, looking for humans desperate enough to accept her ‘help’. I already have a bulletfic for how each of them gets found and mutated
Steven Universe au
Mechanisms as the Off-Colors. Gems thst either rebelled against or were thrown out by the diamonds. They wander the galaxy, and sometimes assist gem rebellions. The moon war was fought over earth’s moon base, between the crystal gems and those loyal to the Diamonds.
Doctor who TMA au
Jon and Jonny were brothers on Gallifrey, and while Jon excelled in timelord school and became The Archivist, Jonny was distracted by paying off his father’s debts and failed, never to receive the title of “the Captain” or 12 regenerations. He didn’t stay mortal for long, as Carmilla found him like in cannon and mechanized both of his hearts. They stole a TARDIS called Aurora and fled to the stars. Many many years later, The Archivist finds his long lost brother when taking his companions, Martin, Tim, and Sasha to the Steamworld Intergalactic Music Festival
False domestic psychological prison
An enterprising young member of an intergalactic authority comes up with a new idea for these immortal criminals’ containment: the only prison the Mechanisms can’t escape is the one they don’t know they’re in. They capture the mechanisms and through a combination of the sedative effects of the Lotus, and some memory altering microchips, they get the Mechanisms to think they are just (mostly) normal people on a normal planet. To make them less likely to escape, they gave them something they never could have had before. Jonny gets respect as the owner of a tailor shop, with workers who call him sir, and trust and obey his judgement. Brian, as a priest is listened to in all his advice and praised for his wise moral decisions. Will they realize it’s a trick? Or stay living this lie forever?
Spaceteam fic
The Aurora gets stuck in a strange wormhole (bifrost?) and she can’t operate anything but basic piloting. Suddenly strange new controls are on the bridge, as well as whole other consoles of controls. Instructions for what to do are provided on screens, but they don’t match the control each mechanism sees on their console. Luckily they’re all within shouting distance, but they will have to learn to work together… as a spaceteam. Set Sigmaclapper to 5! Soak Ferrous Holospectrum! Baste the Emergency Whittler!
Summer Camp Councilors
Human au where the mechanisms are councilors at Camp Cosmo, with wacky hijinks, camp names, and songs. Several units of cabins inspired by the 4 story albums, a great spot on a canal with sea kayaking, regular kayaking, sailing, and canoeing. A high ropes and low ropes course, an archery range, and an arts and crafts area are also present for those who aren’t water crazy. Pack up your sense of adventure and extra flashlight batteries! Hopefully the campers won’t get into any drama…
Kofi rat from Small Saga meets Marius
This is for the KofiAssam fans out there! Our very own rat-tailed rover finds themself on a massive metal god dwelling and encounters The Metal Armed God!
Or
Marius Von Raum finds a rat wearing clothing that seems to be able to play the mandolin. Good thing he learned to speak rat when he and Toy Soldier went to that candy planet where Toy Soldier somehow became a prince…
Steam Powered Giraffe roleswap
What if Doctor Carmilla lived on earth and created nine singing automatons that could self repair?
What if Colonel P. A. Walter mechanized 6 humans with blue matter to create a force of galactic heroes, that then forgot their original names?
1920s American speakeasy
Probably heavily based on Lackadaisy. Carmilla’s Speakeasy is a great place to get illegal alcohol, and its secret entrance is inside the Cafe Aurora. The owner, Carmilla herself is illusive at best, and her seeming to only show her face at night has lead to rumors of her being a vampire or witch. Rumors that are only worsened when she gave each of her employees a strange new gift: pins, that she insists are a new part of their uniform to be worn at all times. The purpose of the pins is made clear when Jonny is shot by a rival rumrunner while on a job and comes back from the dead.
SCP contains Brian and Toy Soldier
Brian was on MJE and Toy Soldier was under direct orders from a researcher to not escape. The only question is would Doctor Bright be an expert on immortality, or would letting him know about The Mechanisms be a terrible idea?
Marius backstory oneshot based on the christmas armistice
There are many things Byron Marius expected to hear in the middle of a war. The pound of bullets, the screams of other soldiers, and crash of giant robot mechas overhead. What he didn’t expect to hear was singing.
Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht
That’s all, folks
I have way too many ideas.

Many of us imagine the human self to be a discrete entity, solid, formed and known. But this could be an illusion of our making, albeit a useful illusion, that allows us to act efficiently in the world. Researchers of the unconscious have found that the self has no definite boundaries, and that at its inner depths it trails off into mystery and the unknown. To borrow the metaphor from physics, what we had previously thought of as a solid entity may turn out to be a wave of infinite extension. Quantum physics discovered that the smallest elements of matter behave in one moment as particles and in another as waves. As particles, they are discrete and separate, and can be ‘split’ to release energy. As waves, they behave less like bits of matter and more like bands of light or energy, reaching out to eternity. They cannot be confined or boxed in but participate in an ocean of being, as it were.
This suggests a certain paradoxical instability at the heart of matter. Matter looks stable to the eye but, from the perspective of microphysics, the world is fluid, and uncertain, even bizarrely so. Einstein argued that all particles have a wave nature, and vice versa. Heisenberg, Max Planck and others refined and changed the theory. Needless to say, this discovery shattered the prevailing views of Newtonian physics, and its ramifications are still being felt today. As Brian Greene put it in The Elegant Universe, ‘Matter has been dematerialized.’
What has happened in physics has occurred in the parallel movement of Jung’s analytical psychology. This is more than coincidence, because while he was a Swiss citizen and based in Zurich, Einstein befriended Jung and they had discussions about the nature of reality. Einstein was discovering relativity in physics and Jung was discovering it in psychology.
Like matter, the self is only relatively stable. At its depths, it too can lose its solid formation and appear as a wave or as a fluid process. The notion of applying the wave-particle duality to psychology is mine and not Jung’s, but I think the metaphor holds if we think in terms of the healing experience of the numinous. As with the concept of matter in physics, I think we live simultaneously as waves and particles as psychological beings.
As particles, we are distinct beings, physical and discrete, each with our unique personality and makeup. As waves, we are not so individual. We are similar to each other, and participate in the cosmos in predetermined ways. As waves, we are spiritual beings, fluid, open-ended and connected to other waves. We are especially receptive to archetypal currents that course through us, which Jung identified as universal and collective. In his terms, the particle is the ego or conscious self, and the wave is the infinite expanse of the unconscious.
‘The suprapersonal or collective unconscious,’ writes Jung, ‘is like an all-pervasive, omnipresent, omniscient spirit.’ It represents ‘an extension of man beyond himself; it means death for his personal being and rebirth in a new dimension as literally enacted in certain of the ancient mysteries’. Rituals such as those of ancient Greece, in which rebirth in a new dimension was enacted, seek to lead us away from the particle to the wave, and such experiences are referred to theologically as grace, unconditional love or transcendence. The wave-like connection is precisely what we today call spirituality, namely, the capacity to feel connected to the cosmos and the entirety of life.
[...]
My contention is that as soon as we experience ourselves as waves, this has a healing effect on consciousness. When this connection is restored, we overcome ego-bound existence and anxiety, and feel ourselves to be part of a larger whole. The ego’s petty concerns and worries are dropped and we feel renewed. It is burdensome to be confined to the ego and to its tiny world. As Freud correctly observed, the ego is the ‘seat of anxiety’, and when we move outside the ego our anxiety – which can produce disease and neurosis – falls away.
We are not designed to dwell all our lives in the ego, in its confining world. This has long been a part of human knowledge, which is why ritual and liturgy played such a huge role in people’s lives in the past. Today we are more likely to seek out this experience of transcendence in a variety of secular ways, including music, drugs, sexuality, relationships, contact with nature and awe and wonder.
[...]
It is possible to see the relation between particle and wave in the experiences of the devotees of Dionysus. In many ways, Dionysus is the god who invites us to return to the source and immerse ourselves in the ocean of being. As Zurich analyst Verena Kast writes of the Dionysian festivals of ancient Greece:
Those seized by Dionysus broke out of the conventional order to become part of a cosmic order; human beings became one with nature, social rank was obliterated, rivalries ceased. Torn out of their isolation, individuals experienced prophecy and a momentary connection with the transpersonal Self.
In the ancient festivals, the ego personality was momentarily eclipsed by a different order of being or, as Kast puts it, ‘the devotees of the god experienced the Self through momentary forgetfulness of self’. The Dionysian spirit is ecstatic and it brings release from the isolation of our individual selfhood. Dionysus lures us out of our shells into ecstatic communion with others and with nature. However, the enchantment that Dionysus offers can lead to intoxication, loss of control, excess and obliteration.
This is why the god Dionysus was feared as well as revered. He personifies a primal wave that can engulf and obliterate the particle. The human element can be destroyed in a frenzy of elation and mania. He invites us to move out of our confined state, but the chaos of the primordial is the danger we face, which in the cult of Dionysus is symbolised by his companions, the maenads, whose name derives from mania and means possession or frenzy.
[...]
Walter Otto and Karl Kerenyi provide memorable descriptions of the ancient festivals of this god. Dionysus was invoked by singing the dithyramb or ritual song. The wearing of the ritual masks of the god would invite Dionysus to enter the festivities and insinuate himself in the human throng. Women would gather in a circle, clap their hands, and sing and dance to the sound of drums and flutes. The dithyrambic choir would enter an altered state of consciousness, in which members lost their identities and acted as one. Describing this process of fusion with nature and life, Nietzsche wrote:
So stirred by Dionysus, the individual forgets himself completely. In the Dionysiac rite, nature itself, long alienated or subjugated, rises again to celebrate the reconciliation with her prodigal son, man. The mystical jubilation of Dionysus breaks the spell of individuation and opens a path to the maternal womb of being.
[...]
Some of us can be transformed by our contact with ecstasy but some of us can be destroyed. As Verena Kast notes: ‘Ecstasy carries us beyond our limits, killing our normal personality. It can fragment us so that we do not know how, or if, we are going to return.’

Warning: long post about life, the universe, and how important we are in it. Whatever the opposite of existential dread is.
I've been on a space fix for the last few weeks, and I keep coming back to these two videos.
youtube
They are incredibly well made and offer voice-overs by Brian Cox, Steven Hawking, Janna Levin, and more. However gorgeous it is, a theme in the comments is people having an existential crisis after watching them and saying how small they feel. The second one has more of those comments, probably because it goes to the end of the universe's existence.
youtube
And that baffles me. Don't get me wrong, I know why people are feeling that. I felt it at first too - the dread of the realization that everything has to end, and one day there will just be nothing. But then I watched it again. And again. And again. And I came to realize that instead of feeling very very small and insignificant, we should be thinking of the opposite.
Our universe was made with a bang. Stars were forged, and in their cores created the elements to make other stars, and other stars made more elements, and it went on in a cycle. Those stars died and other stars were born from the ashes of the last star. Gas and dust clotted together to create planets, and solar systems, and moons. Eventually, after a very long and complicated process, one planet gained the strange phenomenon we call life, and here we are.
We shouldn't feel small about our place in the universe. Yes, size speaking, we are microscopic on the cosmic scale. But billions of stars died to create the elements we are made out of - hydrogen, iron, oxygen, nitrogen, carbon, calcium and phosphorus. Billions of stars grew and exploded to let those elements loose into the cosmos, and after a very long time, they came to create you and me.
We are not small. We are a statistic improbability. We are quite literally forged from stardust. The elements that are in all of us were made billions and billions of years ago - merely atoms - and somehow they found their way through all of space, through all of time, to come together in the most specific, delicate pattern to create us.
Yes, maybe we are just a bundle of chemicals and electrical signals. So is a thunderstorm. So is a star. But we are a bundle of chemicals and electricity that can think, and move, and breathe, and live. As far as we currently know, this is the only place in the universe that has been able to create something so intricately complicated.
"The universe doesn't care," some people say. "The universe is dark, and cold, and empty, and we are so insignificant in the grand scheme. Nothing really matters."
Of course the universe cares. Look at everything that had to fall into place to keep us alive - The Earth's magnetosphere, the Sun's warmth, Jupiter's shield of gravity... the universe cares so much for us that it has literally put everything it can in the way to keep us safe. Just look at the Moon! The craters, the scars of every battle they've fought for us. I don't feel insignificant. I feel protected. I feel like this is the most important part of the cosmos. Everything matters. And it is right here, on this planet. We may be just grains of sand in a never ending hourglass, but we are here, and we are alive, and that in itself is beautiful.
The universe is trying as hard as it can to keep the little sprout of life going. Life is so very fragile that even the slightest error could obliterate it in less than a heartbeat - and in the lifespan of the stars and everything around us, less than a heartbeat is the only time we have to exist.
So the universe took those stars, crushed them into dust, and used that dust to mold us into existence. It wrapped us in a blanket of darkness and warmth. It nurtured us, guided us, protected us and allowed us to grow, and has only just begun to tell us its stories. We are the children of suns that allowed us their death so that we may look back up at the vastness of space and see all of its glory and wonders and long to return to the forges that created us.
If there are such things as miracles, life would be it.

My ideas so far on who the managers are in the AU!! (Notes left on some btw)
Prester Virgil
Long time Minutemen soldier. Paranoid, aggressive, self centered, and stubborn. He's generally both a helpful hand and also terrifying at times.
Brian
An Institute scientist in the Robotics division. Egotistical and heavily book smart which has him acting on statistical means than emotional. But not street smart in the slightest. One step into the wasteland and he's probably dead in a week.
Misty Monsoon
A loner that lives on the island of Far Harbor. Besides the wild life, Mary is her only friend around here. Since most had either died or succumbed to the fog. She's somewhat in hiding too...
Mary Anna
Exploring the island, Mary studies the biology that was made from the environment and radiation. With the help of Misty as well. She's not one to head into violence and would rather act more emotionally or thoughtfully.
Cosmo Kuiper
One of the dangerous gangs and richest you never want to mess with. Having people running for their lives or for their caps. Most of their money comes from Chem sales, mercenary assistance, and of course... loans.
Holly Graylle
A knight of the Brotherhood of Steel! (Cause she's a...) Stationed in the Capital Wasteland. Within the groups sent out for missions, she is the one to be leading and directing. No one is doing anything without her word and say.
Chip Revvington and Spruce Campbell
(I'm having troubles with them, slightly. Help)
A duo mercenary team who works on their own terms. If the caps pay well and if they're up to the task, they'll do it. Morality ranges really, since sometimes old habits die hard. Close as brothers and will defend each other.
Tawney C. Esta
(Saw the perk "Sandman" and got the idea...)
The sandman of the wasteland. Assassinations in the night and it's only done if the money is right. The kills done aren't aligned by good or bad only, it's just business. Asleep in the day and awake in the night.
Belle Dama
(I'll be honest, the term "long distance relationships" got me thinking sniper rifles and she is a phone... so-)
A professional in the Regulators! Working by the uses of a trusty sniper rifle. Despite how... uhhh, dangerous she may sound, she's quite the opposite. Looking after the younger ones and caring towards others. Staying firm on her morals of course.
Benjamin Biggs
A medic in the wasteland and looking for hire. Certainly good at his work and well experienced than most doctors you'll meet out here! Although he enjoys the latest talk going around when stopping in town of course.
Buck Ruffler
The luckiest gambler you'll meet and has probably been kicked out of a lot of casinos by now. He's lucky to be alive. Honestly. Also high on jet-
Graham Ness Payser
The hotshot of the Strip in New Vegas! Bragging, unbearable, and his own number one fan. Picking up quite the fame and yearns for more excitement in his life. His aim is bad but he's a fast shooter!
Flint Bonpyre
A nervous explosives and incinerary expert who is also not afraid talk his mind. (Sometimes.)
Dave Brubot
The star of the stage! Able to charm his way into your heart. With his charisma, he could easily make his way anywhere and have the ability to persuade. (I'm kinda having trouble with him, help)
Cathal
Okay I'll be honest, 100% inspired by the pictures of people's game having him show up everywhere. That's him now. No matter which bar or place you stop at, Cathal is there and knows what you did. No matter what. Like the Gman except not interfering with events. Just a joke character.
And that's it!! They will be edited and changed in the future, of course. So nothing here is permanent! Some characters I'm having trouble regarding what I want for them or on who/what they are. I accept ideas regarding them, yes yes.
Also- some of them definitely won't fw each other at all. On the lines if faction, beliefs, and morality. Or pre-established beef, lol.

Commentary on Corpus Hermeticum X: The Key
Tumblr media
My commentary on one of my favorite books/chapters from the Corpus Hermeticum. Was written some time ago but I still concur with everything here. I use Brian Copenhaver's Hermetica as my translation.
[1] We are introduced that this is Hermēs speaking to Tat—a summary of the lost General Discourses.
God and the Good are indistinguishable from one another, according to Hermēs. They have the same activity, for activity differs from nature in that nature is the increase and decrease of things that move and change(namely things on earth). Therefore we as humans, participate in bother activity, which belongs only to the unmoved, ie. God & The Good, and nature. I’m reminded of Iamblichus in that the human soul is endowed with a sort of otherness (heterotēs) but I’m jumping ahead.
[2] The first two sentences present to us that God's only activity is to Will All Things into being. Namely, things that have begotten and the unbegotten’s very ουσία, or essence, is that from the Will of God. The Cosmos and Sun are also Fathers to things that merely participate in nature (plants and animals) and things that participate in both activity and nature(humans). The Sun and we, as humans, don’t cause Good or Life, but we are merely participants in the Good and activity of Life. But because the Sun and Cosmos are the “Father” to things by participation, the only reason/cause of that is through God, the only Supreme Good.
[3] When God the Father “receives the appetite for the Good, by way of the Sun…” I take this to mean by our veneration and reverence to the Sun, God indirectly receives the appetite for the Good, but surely God’s Will transcends human Sun worship, right? This is why we the next contradictory sentence where the Father “…receives nothing but Wills all things to be.” Next, we are given the distinction between one who makes vs. one who “wills” i.e. God. Humans make things regarding wanting both quality and quantity, sometimes we create, sometimes we rest. This is not true for God, who Brings All Things into being. Remember the essence of things is to come, things that have come, and things that will never come, are the very substance of God. If we dare to say God has an essence or substance.
[4] Tat sends his kudos to Hermēs for bestowing him a vision so good and beautiful it nearly blinds his “mind’s eye.” We are then told that the vision of the Good is not like that of a ray of the Sun—which “dazzles the eyes and makes them shut.” The vision of the Good illuminates and pierces the mind, but does not harm. This vision of the Good illuminates us, in so much as we are ready for such reciprocity of such a great vision.
[5] I’m going to need to do some more digging into this Ouranos and Kronos reference that they were able to "drink somewhat more deeply of the vision..."
The rest of the paragraph I believe explains why Tat described this vision of the Good as almost “blinding” his mind’s eye. Too shed any of our 3 eyes upon the incorruptible, ineffability of the Good that is God— indeed we are too weak to look upon and ultimately fathom such a pure essence, in my my most humble opinion. Referencing the Stobaean Hermetica SH 1: We have a clear description of God's ineffability. Hence the text states that there’s a “divine silence” and a “suppression of all the senses,” when in the moment we "see the vision" [6] We continue with the text stating the ineffability and Unfathomablity of one who has begun to understand, after having to still our senses via meditation—the Hermeticist can see nothing but the Good that is God. Having understood the Good, that beauty “kindles his whole soul and by means of body draws in upward…” Through our bodies, we still our minds and bodily senses. We must choose to do this, just as we would choose to harm other things or love another thing. “…and beauty(the Good) changes his whole person into ουσία or essence. This is henosis. The last sentence supports that, for having looked upon such a Good vision, we cannot be deified while attached to things that change, i.e. our bodies. This kind of thought that our bodies, or embodiment in the physical, is an obstruction to Oneness, yet also the way to Oneness, or henosis, is highly similar to Iamblichus. He describes it as human souls having the most degree of “otherness.” In this specific case, in the last two sentences of paragraph 6, our otherness sways our decisions to choose the Good.
[7] Tat incurs what Hermēs means by deification. He reminds Tat that all souls hail from the one soul of All—God. Though many changes occur—this whole paragraph really just supports animism & reincarnation I think. Nothing is without Soul, from the the corporeal beings and incorporeal beings. At the end of the paragraph though, what strikes me is that after the areal souls are changed to humans, we change to daemons, by becoming daemons ( perhaps this happens after death…?) we enter the troops of the gods ~yay~. Which are fixed(the heavenly spheres) and ones that move (the stars and constellations).
[8] entering the troops of the gods is the soul’s most perfect glory. Viciousness can enter the human soul though upon, which inhibits the person from tasting the fruit of the Good and rushes back towards earthly and material things. This is the vice of all things for the soul: ignorance. To be reverent is to discern the copies of the names of the Good from the evil that’s on the world. When we are ignorant, our souls are blinded to discernment. We become slaves to the passions of the body ergo we become ruled; instead we should rule our desires and passion and not be slaves to them.
[9] The virtue of or antidote to ignorance would obviously be gnosis, or simply knowledge. We are then given the difference between knowledge & understanding vs. sensation. Though we cannot live without such sensations; knowledge differs from this in that sensations are preceded by the objects around us, while knowledge is a gift from God.
[10] All learning and knowledge is incorporeal. Yes, books are animate objects, but to read the book, which we CANNOT do without our senses. The mind employs the body’s senses to absorb the incorporeal information. Hence everything is a result of contrariety and opposition. Both sense and knowledge enter the mental and the material. It cannot be one without the other. Tat ask who the material is. Hermes responds "the Cosmos." The Cosmos is surely beautiful but it is not Good. That belongs to God and God only. The rest of the paragraph threw me a little. I believe it’s telling us the Cosmos though it was created second, it is still incomplete because the forever churning and moving of the Cosmos is infinite—ergo, the Cosmos was created but always existed. If God’s will is to namely will All Things into being, then His willing of the Cosmos always was and always is.
[11] The unmoved Nous moves matter like this: think of the Cosmos as a head, a sphere, nothing material above it and nothing composed of mind below it. Think of the Mind like the Cosmos. The Mind and everything connected or close to it, i.e. our senses(eyes, ears, nose, and mouth) are, in a way, the soul or the person's senses of the soul. What is further away from our senses & mind ie. our limbs and the rest of our body are composed of more body than soul. To me this makes sense. And like the Cosmos, we are a mirror of the Cosmos in that we are both constituted of the mental(nous) and the material(matter).
[12] I imagine this paragraph was popular among Renaissance Christians to give validity to the concept of original sin—now I don't agree with the Christian concept of original sin, as per Corpus Hermeticum I: Poimandres gives a clear account how we aren't "born into "sin." Whatever that means (rolls eyes).
In this paragraph we are told the Cosmos, because it moves is not Good(which belongs only to God) but it not evil either because of its infinite expansion, i.e. its immortality. The human on the other hand, though being a mirror of the Cosmos, as being both constituted of both material and mental, and because our mental can also bring us to evils and vices. This is why we are evil and not Good: Because we move, i.e. are subject to change, and are mortals. This is not suggest we are "born into evil" though. All this is saying is that our otherness (mortality/physical self) is, most of the time, opposed to the incorporeal aspects of ourselves. We must recognize our bodies for what they are, and what they can drive us to do: namely, our bodies can drive to us evil.
[13] Next we are given how the human soul is carried. The Nous is in reason; reason lies in the soul; soul is in the spirit. The spirit can be understood as Qi if you’re familiar with a little Taoism. The spirit is our blood, the life force within us that keeps everything moving and functioning properly. Some mistake the soul is blood. Our spirits are withdrawn into the soul at the time of death, the text says this destroys the body but I think it should say “dissolves” the body. As we are told in Corpus Hermeticum VIII that nothing in the Cosmos is destroyed.
[14] This paragraph also seems like this would be used by Christian’s of the renaissance period to give the “Triune” more ancient validity. All things depends from one beginning: the Will of God. God is the unmoved mover. He does not move or make, but Wills. They are three then: God the Father that is the Good, the Cosmos and lastly mankind. We being grandsons of God, so to speak. Putting my Christian hat on rn, some might argue that the Son of God, Jesus is the perfect example of the Cosmos; him not being Good due to his embodiment, but neither evil either because Jesus was immortal(he rose 3 days later). So by only venerating and worshiping Jesus, is how we too become “sons and daughters of God”). Removing the Christian hat now, this means that we all have the capacity to become perfect images of the Cosmos, and attain apotheosis, just as Jesus and many before him achieved. To think that only one man from the 1st century CE in one tiny part of the world, Judea, was the only one to be able to obtain this is silly and and pretentious. We all have the capacity to become perfect images of the Cosmos and become son's of God.
[15] This first part of the paragraph I would use, and others, to show that The God of in the Hermetica is not understood in a deist kind of way. For God recognizes us and wishes us to pursue the path of gnosis—the only deliverance to God.
Next Hermēs explains why or how the human soul becomes evil—via ignorance, the greatest of all vices. He paints a picture of that of the soul of a child, presumably still in the womb: ״its body has not yet attained its full bulk {of which it has only a little as yet.}” being not yet subjected to the passions of the body, as the baby gets ready to pop, the soul is further dragged down into embodiment. Thus having the soul fully descended into the body, the soul becomes separated and gives birth to the forgetting of the Good (God).
[16] Now Hermēs explains that the same thing occurs at the time of death. The breath draws itself up into the blood and the souls into the breath(spirit). But those with Nous, after it has been stripped away from the material covers(the flesh), because Nous, or Mind, is God-like by nature, exits the soul and takes on a body of fire, that ranges to no ends.
[17] Hermes replies to Tats question at the end of paragraph 16. Mind is so Good and Great that an earthy body is not enough to sustain such divinity that is, Mind, or Nous. Nor can Nous come into direct contact with a body riddled with such passions and vice, thus the mediators: Soul & spirit. Mind takes the soul as a shroud or a protective covering between Mind and body. Spirit acts as sort of a reinforcement agent for the soul that governs our physical and mental bodily functions.
[18] Nous when separated from the body, equips it’s own tunic of fire—hence why the soul is the Minds shroud. For the reason why most our bodies are made of water, is because Mind takes form of the most penetrating of all elements: fire. And fire burns up earth as soon as it touches it. The Nous of God wills everything divine—the nous of humans makes everything earthly. Mind has been stripped of its fire in the human body, ergo we cannot create divine things (in the same manner as God's will).
[19] On the human soul again—the one whose reveres the One (God), is in a way both composed of the demonic and divine. Meaning we possess both our divinity, our mental, as well as your material physical bodies which causes us vice—this is how we are also demonic. Our soul can become “wholly Mind” after being freed from earthly bodies and doing no wrong unto another person, while striving for gnosis of the divine—that is the fight of reverence which we must participate in. Some souls are irreverent though—these souls constantly seek earthy, human bodies to enter into. Being ruled by its own essence (the vices of the body), the soul punishes itself. We are also told how when human souls are reincarnated, they most certainly are not reincarnated into animals—God prevents this and does not want this.
[20] Another apologetic paragraph that could’ve been wielded by the Muslims and Christian’s. This paragraph is on how the soul is punished. Hermēs responds to Tat by saying “What greater punishment for a human soul, my son, than irreverence.” I can personally attest for this, but this doesn’t mean that an atheistic path can’t lead you to divinity or that ultimate and supreme Good. The path of irreverence just wasn’t for me. It led my life down a path of utter obliteration of the mind and body. What changed my life was my ability to start believing in “higher powers” again. Hermes further refutes that our punishment is reincarnation into other animals and affirms that the greatest punishment of the human soul is irreverence.
[21] Hermēs further explains the punishment of the soul. When Mind enters into the irreverent soul—Nous afflicts that soul with vices of the bodies: slander and murders; ignorance. But when Nous enters a reverent soul—it cannot get its full of prayer and hymning. Always seeking to help and do good unto others—doing everything in the name of God. [22] We must pray to God to acquire a Good Nous. Some maybe born more reverent than others. I certainly was born more irreverent than some I think.
After having acquired such a Good Mind—we can pass into something greater, but never something lesser. The gods commune with humans, and humans rule the non-reasoning things, yet we must not forget God takes charge of them All.
None are less or greater than the One. We can think of “God’s touch” on everything the same way we understand how astrology works kind of. The rays of the Cosmos employ the energies of God to shine down upon mankind. We receive these energies thru the natural forces of the Cosmos. These natural forces work thru the elements, and humans work thru the arts and learning. Meaning we express God’s energies thru out creative expression—and thru attaining gnosis.
[23] Here we are told that the governing force of the universe is indeed from the One Mind—the One Nous—GOD. nothing is more God-like than Mind. For we use our Mind to connect with entities higher than ourselves, and nothing is more capable of uniting us to the gods and the gods to us than reverence and the Good Mind, that is God. Not every soul is blessed with a Good Mind, hence why we must acquire it—some more than others (me). Hermēs makes it clear he is talking about The Mind and not the servile, human mind.
[24] Without Mind one can neither do, nor say anything. How powerful is the Mind. For when we become overcome by the emotions and passions of the body, Mind flies out of the soul and we act like un-reasoning animals. We neither see or hear anything once Mind flies out of our soul in such a way. Next, we see how in a sluggish or irreverent soul, Mind cannot endure and “leaves it behind.” NO God does not abandon us. God didn’t want to make mindless robots to always do good. God wants us to choose the Good Mind. No one can force you to accept the teachings or the Good Mind—not even God. Hence why it is stated — the true human, or reverent human soul becomes greater than or equal to the gods. Gods are immortal yes, but we posses both the immortal and the mortal—no other of God’s creation has the power. How great and torturous is the power of mortality and immortality? Without both we fall short.
[25] I think this paragraph further supports my conclusion on paragraph 24. The gods when they come down to earth, do not leave the bounds of heaven behind them, yet the human has the ability to reach the heavens and measure its heights, while also not leaving earth behind. To me this is describing how a reverent human can have mystical, henosis like experiences while keeping his or hers sanity. They stay grounded in the things that ~are~ and doesn’t ignore the cries from the needy to simply just have mystical experiences. Hermēs goes on to boldly say that God is a immortal human and that man is a mortal god, meaning the power of our mortality and immortality. All things: the Cosmos and humans exists solely because of God.

Miss Rika is looking pretty confident beside Sosu. Despite being a Ground Type Specialist, she seems pretty at home up here in the sky.
Alistair is pumping up Daisy with a good pep talk. Must be a holdover from his days at Pokestar Studios, eh? Heard the stars there really bring each other up.
Brian is getting his equipment ready for his ride with Chelsea as well as Auwa with her mount.
Giacomo seems to be riding without his signature hat. A good choice; the winds up here will be pretty brutal. Wouldn't want to lose his hat and never see it again.
Green and Blue are both looking pretty confident in themselves. Which of these flyboys will get ahead? Can we expect another win from Green Oak?
Ashe is talking with Kumiko, looks like they're still sporting their colours together. Looking fashionable with your bandannas, you two!
Hassel and Ghetsis are pretty quiet, such stalwart figures. Ghetsis looks so regal and composed and Hassel so calm. Dragon experts really are something else. Considering how they placed last time, will this be their redemption arc?
All right, everyone is getting into place. Unlike the the Water Track, the Sky track is high up in the air. Last time, the Water Track left off at the Pokemon League and that's where our racers will be kicking off! Starting from one of the Floating Isles above the League building, our racers will dive off their platforms and into the sky, headed towards the first marker at Veilstone City! After that it's a straight shot through Solaceon to Hearthome, with several obstacle hoops to fly through in between, and then touching down just outside of Eterna City.
There's quite a bit of danger involving this part of the race, but no worries! We have several members from the Pokemon Centers ready to go as well as many air marshals riding on their own Pokemon in case they need to catch our riders and their dragons.
Now...let's cheer on our racers and pray for their safe journey.
*1....2....3....GO!!!*
And they're off to a great start!
Diving headfirst into the air below, Hilary and Yris are leading the charge, followed by Alistair and Giacomo. The others are following suite and – oh, Team Luxray has gotten off to a bad start! Instead of diving off spectacularly as they had some days ago during a display of Pokemon and human bonds, both have tripped up and tumbled off of the starting platform instead! They're catching themselves up, though, Rika holding on fast to her mount and they're joining the rest.
The air is full of racers flying majestically through the clouds. We are now following them via Pokemon Taxi to get the best view and the best sound! Courtesy of the Safari Zone for volunteering these amazing Pigeot carrying the team safely along the track beside the racers.
Up ahead a large flock of Starly are incoming! Rika and Sosu dove under them, losing a bit of altitude, but gain distance and speed. Racer Hilary and Green Oak have veered to the side, avoiding the huge group of little birds. The rest of the group isn't so lucky and some have been pelted with the incoming bodies of little Starly. Oh, the marshals have caught the little ones affected by the impacts. Don't worry folks, they're all right! The Racers aren't in danger either, flying ahead to catch up.
Not to be outdone by his fellow Paldean, Hassel has caught up and surpassed Rika. Team Mamoswine is soaring ahead, leaving behind Team Luxray in their dust. On his tail is Green Oak of Team Girafarig. Keeping up a good pace is Yris of Team Bidoof, with Hilary and Aluwa coming in behind them. The others are starting to lag behind with Brian at the end of the pack.
We are headed towards Hearthome, but before that, we have the special aerial obstacle course which will prove the bond and maneuverability of each team.
Famed racer Aluwa is shining here, weaving through each loop like threading through the eye of a needle. Doing rolls in mid-air and whirls – what a show off. How graceful. Hassel is no slouch, either, moving through the obstacle with equal grace on top of Rosso. King Ghetsis is following Hassel's every move, gracefully going through the air as well, almost seeming to make a ballet in mid-air with Maryse and Team Mamoswine as their dance partner.
Blue seems to be having trouble, they've bumped into the loops more than once. Oh, Brian and Chelsea seemed to have selected a loop much too small for them to go through and have gotten stuck! The air marshals are flying over to help them get detangled safely and off they go again! Come Team Garchomp, you can do it! Go, go, go!
We're getting past Herathome and into the home stretch.
Currently Giacomo has shot to the forefront on Tyrant, leading the pack to the finish line.
He's followed by Ghetsis, then Aluwa and Green. Next we have Hassel slowing down a little, with Alistair, Yris, Blue, Hilary, Ashe and Brian. Looks like getting stuck in one of the loops cost Brian a lot of time!
We are losing altitude now as we near the finish line and the winds are getting a bit rough as a result as she change the distance between ourselves and the ground. Everyone is making the preparation for landing in front of Eterna City, but a few racers are struggling.
Oh! Aluwa and Hassel's safety harnesses have failed. They are hovering just a bit above their Garchomps, but they are holding onto dear life. Unfortunately it's not easy to make Garchomp turn around, though the other racers have noticed what's happened and are calling out in concern. Oh, the air marshals are coming in to keep an eye on the situation. They should be getting there in time – oh! Oh, no! Another harness malfunction! Hilary of Team Bastiodon has been completely thrown off of his mount! They have separated and the marshals are diving to go help him. The Team Bastiodon Garchomp is also diving to try and catch his rider. Down, down, down...CATCH! Great going guys! Hilary is back up and holding on – phew, that was a close one, but he's on his way again.
We can see Eterna City now! Alistair at the forefront now, Team Bidoof flying beside him. Will this be another photo finish? Oh, but wait! Coming from behind, zipping past Giacomo and Green, Ghetsis and Hassel are now outstripping everyone in the last few seconds. Just zooming ahead like bullets! It's coming down to the last couple of yards and we have A CLEAR WINNER!
GHETSIS HARMONIA HAS CROSSED THE FINISH LINE WITH HASSEL IN SECOND PLACE AND ALISTAIR IN THIRD!
Followed by Yris, Giacomo, Green, Rika, Hilary, Aluwa, Ashe, Blue and Brian. Guess that mess up in the air really cost him his placing. That's okay, Brian, you and Chelsea did your best!
Well, that was an exciting race two out of three for the Lunar Race. Last time we saw Ghetsis Harmonia in 8th place, but he's shot up to 1st! How amazing, what a comeback.
Thank you for tuning in everybody. I hope to see you again January 21st, for the final leg of the race.
This is Kinsey of Sinnoh now, signing off!

Tag Game Rules: Shuffle your on repeat playlist and post the first 10 tracks, then tag 10 people. Tagged by @theotherwesley My repeat playlist is currently just a shuffle of all of my 'likes' on youtube music, so it's likely to get weird. 1. Orgy for One, Ninja Sex Party (look I warned you) 2. Fading Memories, Fair Game (from a playlist called Silver Lining a friend whipped up for a household acid trip, that then became my go-to comfort playlist) 3. Way Deeper Down (2023 Remaster), The Stupendium 4. The Last Length, Colm R. McGuinness (Incredible voice, all the vocals are him. No really) 5. Moby Duck, The Longest Johns 6. Big Night, Tom Cardy 7. The Pilot's Eyes, Bill Sutton (Oh, I was wondering if one of these tear-jerking space ballads was going to show up) 8. Come Along, Cosmo Sheldrake 9. Tom Cruise Crazy, Jonathan Coulton 10. It's Nesting Season, Brian David Gilbert And an eleventh because it was too good not to share 11. Call ACab, Sam Stone Edited to add: links in the song titles because I didn't remember I could do that at first

Metalocalypse #34: “Dethsources” | July 7, 2008 - 12:00AM | S02E14
Dethklok want new management, so they take on a second manager on some kind of trial basis. He’s a “cool” manager, unlike their stick-in-the-mud current guy. He has long hair, for instance, and smokes freaking JOINTS while working. He’s also voiced by Brian Posehn from comedy. Dethklok really like this guy, because he’s chilled out and parties with them. It becomes very clear that the new guy intends to get rid of the old guy (side-note: I really wish that this show had simple-to-remember-and-type names, because I despise having to copy and paste character names so gosh darn much with this gosh darn show).
The source of the conflict is Dethklok’s dwindling cash. They haven’t finished their next record, and their money is running out. They never feel this crunch for even a second, because they are stupid idiot dumb-dumbs. They simply can not learn lessons or be nice.
This one has a lot of great scenes that have little to do with the main plot. It’s bookended by scenes of new Kloketeer recruits (their hooded servants). First we see them being weeded out by a fight to the death in the opening (not actually shown). We also see them being sworn in and branded during the show’s climax, which involves a fencing match between the two managers. The ending didn’t completely work for me, but it was fine. They had to get out of the episode somehow!
The aforementioned “great scenes” include a pretty simple gag where Nathan texts Toki an incredibly lame joke. They are clearly extremely enchanted with texting technology. Their easily-impressed laughter is infectious, and Nathan being so proud of himself for pulling off such mild humor is so great. It’s all about the performance and the character animation (as limited as that is). There’s also a great bit with the health inspector who keeps asking if various terrible things happening due to their health code violations are “metal” or not (asked indignantly as a way to scold them) and they just shrug and go “yeah” because they all sorta are. This is the first scene in which their new manager pulls out a joint and starts smoking it and they are all childishly impressed by it. Any episode that drives home the point that Dethklok are all big dumb babies is doing it's job. This episode is doing jobs.
MAIL BAG
Remember the lady who screamed in her car for Joe Biden. She was screaming like BUCKO and CHAMP and shit like that. Well I just found out they died. Self-inflicted. See you later, sport.
This fake message caused me to find they/them on tiktok and after seeing them with various hairlengths and different outfits and stuff uhhhh, would. Please stay alive for me babythem. I need you
Have you seen skibidi toilet? it's what all the kids are into these days. makes adult swim look like barney the purple dinosaur
my friends (twitch streamers who don't know I exist) forced me to watch it (they played it on their reaction stream) and to quote my favorite racist cosmo kramer "that's spooky, man"
Quymn wasn't that good but I still find myself quoting "Go Team Boobies" from time to time
To be fair to that line, I actually did write that line down in my notes but I failed to highlight it in my write-up.
another tasty tuesday doon the fookin drain
I simply will not abide your terroistic mail bags. I'm calling the military on your ass pal. EFF YOU
