100 of my favorite rock, punk, and metal adjacent (-core) releases since 2010, limited to two per artist. i feel like the top of this list is pretty typical, but there was a point around the middle of last decade where i stopped paying as much attention to newer bands popping up since i just wasn't finding a ton of stuff that grabbed me. despite me going back later on and listening to a lot of the stuff i missed i don't have as strong of a connection to some of it as i do bands i've been listening to 15+ years. there's actually been a handful of artists putting out music in the last few years though that have helped reignite that spark and helped push me to seek out anything i might have overlooked - shout out to brutus, the armed, greyhaven, soul glo, state faults, shin guard, blood command, blind girls, callous daoboys, dreamwell, frontierer, crowning, frail hands, nuvolascura, portrayal of guilt, senza, and vein.fm to name a few. as always, if anyone reading this has any recommendations feel free to send them my way. it's always appreciated.

Top 100 Modern Metal Releases
i'll do another one of these for death, black, sludge, prog, death, post, drone, stoner, doom, etc metal in the future, it just seemed like it'd be easier to narrow down if i split it up this way and might make it seem a little less all over the place but i'm not so sure i succeeded at that, ha. hopefully there's something on here for everyone though. peace to you and yours, i hope everyone's doing well.

Loma Prieta - Dreamlessnessless
Everyone dies but me.
Why would I waste my time trying to imagine
a world without myself?
will not experience the world without me,
no matter how much better a world it would be.
Dreamless sleep,
everything permanent starts off temporary
Death examines the contents of your life
Nothing is more permanent than
what was once temporary,
Everyone dies but me.

Loma Prieta - “Glare”
Since their inception, like the history of their geographical namesake, Loma Prieta’s schism across post-hardcore, post-rock, and post-punk has found itself a home on a fault line of magnitude interrupting serenity. Chaos in duality weathers them well, and as the years wear on -- now nearly 20 years into the quartet’s lifespan as a band -- they’ve managed reign all elements in with equal gravitas. “Glare”, the latest preview from the California band’s new album, Last, is a picturesque moment for them to re-enter the scenery eight years removed from their last full-length to do just that as they reflect on the balance of light and dark now that they understand the forces each hold through an ivy climb ascendant before negative energy attempts to break its stem. "You can't see for the glare / The light meant to show your way," screams Sean Leary, searing over the thunder, like sun burning away clouds beneath it. "Glare as if you could hold on to hate / Like it was a physical object." Only those who choose to stare will not see the beauty beyond the vantage point...
Directed by: Evan Henkel
Loma Prieta’s Last will be released June 30th on Deathwish Inc.
