I remember this episode being so unsatisfying when I watched it on TV for the first time.
These people took a foster child and went out of their way to change her appearance from dying and styling her hair to giving her a nose job just to make her look like their missing daughter! That's insanely abusive and horrifying! And there's no real conclusion for Mackenzie. It just ends up being about finding Ella. Yeah, Ella get's reunited with her parents and their all happy again but what about the horror they put Mackenzie through? I wish they at least showed Mackenzie being taken from them or them apologising to her or something because it just seems so psychotically unhinged that Mackenzie gets no real justice.

ooo, Locum Tenens (you know i’m always going to ask about this one!) and can you tell me about the oracle AU? 💕
I can never remember how much I've talked about Locum Tenens, it is my poor neglected child of 38 thousand words,,, your love for it gives me life <3
I had SO MANY plans for this AU, all the way up to the end of season 4 v.v
Anyway, yes. For those unfamiliar: Locum Tenens is my Doctor Who AU where the Doctor falls into a parallel world at the end of season 2 instead of Rose. Rose is left with the TARDIS and has to figure out how to carry out the Doctor's role while the Doctor... well, let's just say he has a bad time. He's a telepathic being who's cut off from literally ALL sources of telepathy in Pete's World. I was gonna bring in the Sensorites and everything.
Here, have some pain.
“Then you’ll just have to hurry and get back here, yeah?” Rose replied flippantly, but sobered at the look on his face. “I’ll try, Doctor,” she said, more seriously. “I promise I’ll try.” He nodded once. That would have to do. “And what about you, Doctor?” she asked, and as always, he was suddenly drowning in compassion he didn’t deserve. “There you are, living a life, day after day. You always used to say that was the adventure you could never have, and now you’ve got it.” “Yeah, guess you’re right,” the Doctor said, with a humourless laugh, rubbing the back of his neck. “Shut up, I know it’ll drive you spare. So don’t let it. You take care of yourself too, yeah? And come back to me.” Rose. She knew him too well, she always knew him too well. It was time for all or nothing. “Rose.” He took a deep breath. Her gaze sharpened on him. “I… This isn’t at all how I wanted to say it, on some windswept beach in a parallel world, but I let myself run out of time.” He sniffed. “Some Time Lord, me.”  It killed him that he couldn’t touch her, that they could only stand, looking at each other, not even real, while he held out his hearts to her. “I let things that were understood go unsaid for far too long,” he forced himself to continue, and heard Rose suck in a breath. “It absolutely will not be my last chance to say it,” he growled fiercely, as his hands clenched and unclenched with the need to be threaded through hers, then softened. “But just in case: Rose Tyler, I love you.” She gaped at him. Even after their relationship had progressed into physical intimacy, he’d held the words back, feeling that they were inadequate and at the same time too much. Those words were definitive, final, and maybe he’d naively thought that if he refused to define their relationship it couldn’t hurt them. He shook his head inwardly. Daft Time Lord.  Rose had known, had sensed his aversion to the words and held her own back, out of respect, instead showing him in a thousand little ways more eloquent than eight letters of English. But he saw, in that moment, how much she’d needed to hear them from him, and cursed himself for a fool ten times over. Finally she shut her mouth with a snap, shaking her head and smiling at him, and the heat of her love blazed from her eyes and warmed him, even on an icy beach in a different world. “I know,” she replied. “And Doctor, I—” She vanished. The wind howled. The Doctor, bereft of both Rose and the TARDIS’ telepathic contact, again, stood stock still. Then, like a puppet whose strings had been cut, his shoulders slumped, and he covered his face with his hands as he took shaking breaths. It was Mickey who tentatively approached him, an indeterminate amount of time later. “C’mon, boss.” Taking his arm, the other man coaxed the Doctor gently back to the Jeep. One look at his stony face and no one attempted to engage him in conversation. He was silent for the entire drive.
As for the Oracle AU, it's based on a gabe prompt which should tell you everything you need to know xD The gist is that Dream is an oracle whose visions are strongest when he gets edged. It's very porny. Here's a slightly less porny bit.
“Breathe,” Hob reminds him, gentling his hold and pressing a kiss to his forehead. The court stenographer is scribbling furiously, but Hob’s focus is all on Dream. “Just breathe. I’m here. You did so well.” Dream follows instructions, staring up at the ceiling until his breathing slows, and Hob carefully removes himself from him to get the water, coaxing him to sit up and drink. “What did I—?” Dream croaks, once he’s swallowed the water. He never knows what he’s said when the visions come on him; he described it to Hob once as “going somewhere else.” “Sounds like the villagers are going to find the new source of water they need,” Hob says gently. Dream sighs in relief, sagging further into Hob’s embrace. Hob bites his tongue. He knows how important Dream’s visions are to the kingdom. No Oracle has ever had stronger, more accurate prophecies. He just wishes it took less of a toll on his beloved. Once Dream’s trembling stops, Hob cleans the sweat from his body with careful swipes of a cloth. He’s flushed and gorgeous, the most beautiful thing Hob has ever seen. Only Hob can touch him, and no one will ever have him. It’s nearly enough to drive Hob mad, but he loves Dream enough to do whatever he asks. “I think I have one more in me,” Dream says, meeting his eyes, and Hob, resigned to his fate, bends to his task.

🌞 Portable Frying Pan 🌞
☀ ────────────────── ☀
"Hey, you gotta do what you do, right? This hammer isn't for smashing too."
◈ Locum
Morrowgale is a hot wasteland for unwanted inhabitants and criminals. Don't come here if you don't want to be unaliven't. Every nation just ditch them here cause frick dealing with your problems, amirite? 🤣 Also, they're seen as a threat as well so better to let them slowly have magic deprivation and shatters. Hands clean 👏💨
Locum is just the rare one...he's something alright. Heck, he even doesn't wear a mask like the others even though it's mandatory.
( Without Bubble Speech )
EDIT: Now Locum uses a sun staff that could be a hammer and Boreal's name is changed to Morrowgale.

Lil speciality application update -
Stupid little exam for psych ranked me 675/1932 applications, and there are about 450 jobs available
For gen med my interview ranked me 1673/3213 applications [ladies and gentlemen, I'm MID!] and there are about 1550 jobs
May seem a bit shit on the outset but people apply to several specialities (like me) who will then drop out later on when they get an offer for what they actually want to do. and some smart cunt on reddit has made a spreadsheet with the data from the last few years with numbers of applications and the lowest rank to be accepted in different areas (ty FOI) so. It actually looks like that there's a serious possibility I could get an offer from both psych and gen med for a training post.
I rrrreaally want psych (I don't think I could stomach a med rota lifestyle and pressure for the rest of my working life) but we'll see how it works out and - if I get anything at all - if it's in an area I'm happy to uproot my life (again) to.

ooooh what is Locum Tenens??? my curiosity is PIQUED
Oh my darling friend!
Locum Tenens was going to be my MASTERPIECE.
(It still holds a very dear place in my heart but my muses disdain it, alas)
The premise of the fic is that the Doctor falls into Pete's World and gets trapped instead of Rose. Rose, with her Bad Wolf abilities, is the only one left to fly the TARDIS. She goes on some of the Doctor's adventures from seasons three and four, joined by Jenny (who is still the Doctor's daughter, thanks to Jack bringing his disembodied hand to Messaline.
Rose has to deal with slowly losing her humanity under the pressure of being forced to perform a role she was never meant to play, getting more and more disconnected from the universe she's now charged with protecting in the Doctor's absence, meanwhile the Doctor is stuck in Pete's World and, with absolutely no telepathic contacts at all, falls into a coma until that universe's version of the Sensorites come and wake him. He then does the dimension jumping looking for Rose.
ft. Rose learning Gallifreyan and getting tattoos to commemorate her adventures, the Master arc being Human Nature instead, where the Master turns Rose back into a bog standard human and she's faced with the choice of taking back the life that brings her so much pain, and a WHOLE lot of hurt/comfort after the Journey's End reunion. (Not that I've written that far, of course, but those were the plans).
Of course, Locum Tenens, for those who may not be aware, is a name for a person who temporarily fulfills the duties of another, usually used for physicians or clergy. When I found it I was so excited I nearly jumped out of my skin.
I think I'm supposed to give a snippet as well? So I'll put one after the cut.
Now what? Rose asked herself. She didn’t have the Doctor, or even the sonic screwdriver. She had no way to deal with the attackers. Desperately, she cast about herself for anything she could use. Her gaze landed on an industrial-weight penlight that had fallen out of one of the tool boxes under the sound equipment. The sonic!
She might not have had a screwdriver, but she remembered how the Doctor had chased away the pilot fish before just by threatening them with it, when he was nearly too weak to stand. Resolutely pushing aside the twinge of pain that accompanied the memory, she snatched up the penlight. As plans went, it was completely daft, but she didn’t have any better options available. Now the safety of every person in this building depended on her ability to pretend to be someone she wasn’t.
Steeling herself, she stood, slowly, raising the penlight as she did so. She couldn’t allow a single iota of doubt to cross her mind as she tried to infuse her being with the essence of total confidence that the Doctor always exuded. She was the Bad Wolf, the destroyer of the Dalek Emperor. She pointed the penlight at the robots and held it there.
For a moment that seemed to last an eternity, nothing, not even breathing, disturbed their tableau. Rose’s eyes burned but she wouldn’t blink, wouldn’t look away. She’d risked everything on this gamble — if it didn’t pay off, they were all doomed.
Then, all at once, the robots disappeared in a flash of blue, teleporting away as Rose remained motionless. Only when she was sure they were gone did Rose relax, slumping against the desk and gulping deep breaths of air.
Slowly, cautiously, guests began to emerge, looking around in fear and taking stock of their loved ones. Donna, however, was focussed on Rose.
“You fought ‘em off with a penlight,” she exclaimed triumphantly. “I bloody love you!”
