Robert Christgau and I find ourselves in the same boat when it comes to understanding tropicália. Here’s the first line of the Dean’s capsule review of Gilberto Gil’s Soy Loco Por Ti America (1988): “Milton Nascimento and Caetano Veloso are aesthetes like, to be kind, Joni Mitchell; Gil is a pop adept like Stevie Wonder, which I'd probably think was kind to Stevie if I understood Gil's lyrics.” Like Christgau, I’m stuck on the wrong side of Portuguese but gravitate more toward the exuberant weirdness of a Gil or a Tom Zé than I ever have to the comparatively restrained Veloso (though I like some of Nascimento a lot). Language barrier or no, Gilberto Gil’s first self-titled record from 1968 (sometimes called Frevo Rasgado after its first track) is among the most colourful LPs of the first psychedelic era, and on pure sonics I’d make the case for it as the equal of anything that emerged from the Anglo-American axis during the period.

As with other tropicália touchstones, while Gil borrows many of the aesthetics of psych pop (its vivid, lysergic pomp and tasty electric guitar textures principally), his compositions are still founded in samba and bossa jazz, which means these songs are much nimbler and more rhythmically complex than those of his counterparts in the Northern Hemisphere. For every track that plunges directly into acid rock (a la the swaggering blues of “Coragem pra suportar”), there are three that ecstatically cartwheel from zanily-orchestrated hook to hook; on wildly gesticulating songs like “Marginalia II” and “Frevo Rasgado” I can see what Christgau’s getting at when he says Gil writes showtunes. Gil’s lyrics survive translation better than most, and they’re a lot bleaker than you’d expect, chafing under the military dictatorship that would imprison and then exile him and his friend Veloso in 1969. Yet there’s also something about his vocalizations that you just kinda get. Perhaps inspired by his youthful collaborators, the irrepressible Dadaist weirdos Os Mutantes, Gil gibbers, scats, and raves his way through the LP: at the record’s hottest, like “Pega a voga, cabeludo,” it feels like a maniac conga line winding its way through your home.

Prices on recent reissues of Gil, Veloso, Gal Costa, etc. amount to highway robbery, though I was able to get my copy of Gilberto Gil for quite cheap as it’s an unauthorized (but quite good) Russian pressing. However you get your hands on it, the album earns its reputation as a classic of Brazilian and world music that I think every pop music lover should hear.

Moonbeam and the Prospector

“Now, Injun gal,” Loco Pete snarled, raising his rifle and advancing on Moonbeam as she pressed herself fearfully against the trunk of the tree against which he had flung her, “the question is whether I just plug you now for trespassing on my claim, or find a way to persuade you to tell me who you are workin’ for…” Pete leered and the young squaw realised quickly he was going to go for his second choice. The man’s rifle lowered momentarily as he crept towards the seeming,y defensive girl until a strong brown leg shot out from the folds of Moonbeam’s flowing buckskin dress. Her moccasined foot connected hard and accurately with Loco Pete’s solar plexus. “Uff!” he gasped as the blow forced the air from his lungs. He collapsed onto the grass, clutching his stomach. In an instant the Native American female warrior was on her feet. She seized Pete’s rifle and stood over him. The prospector’s eyes filled with water as he begged her for his life, eyeing anxiously both the rifle and the Sioux knife at the woman’s belt. “Please don’t torture me, miss,” he whined, “I would never have hurt you really.”

Moonbeam motioned the defeated white man to rise. She contemptuously tore of the bandana from round his neck, put down the rifle and tied the unresisting prospector's hands behind his back with the yellow cloth scarf. She spun him round to face her, but, shamed at his easy capture by a woman, Pete avoided her dark eyes. “Talk!” Moonbeam ordered him. “Explain why you would greet a visitor with death or violence, when all I sought was water for my steed.” Loco Pete raised his head to meet her gaze at last. “You speak English?” he asked, eyes wide. “You ain’t no savage?” Moonbeam was tempted to strike the old coot, but instead tied him to the tree with her lasso and went to fetch water for her horse. Answers to her questions could wait.

Moonbeam is a character in the Silver Arrow comic book, published in Danish as Solvpilen between 1970 and 1986. She was the female sidekick to the title’s main character and was the creation of Dutch artist Frank Sels.

As for the locomotive itself there is surprisingly not much to say from me! It's got cool colours and this loco's got a Whole shit load of replicas for different gauges. He's siblings with Govt Stanford who resides in the same museum as him which is pretty cool.

[4.] Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 - I like me some big gals! All that complicated machinery will probably give me migraines when I potentially draw them but look at her! Gorgeous and when those two side rods move in sync? *Chefs kiss*

[3.] Union Pacific 844 - GRANDPA NEVER RETIRED AND HONESTLY GOOD FOR HIM!! Like go grandpa go you deserve that living legend title, him in the Greyhound livery is also a chefs kiss because that dash of yellow is also 👌.

[2.] Milwaukee 261 - Casey!! Same case in that I have an OC based on the loco so the locomotive automatically became a favourite. This good boy's run chrimble trains and aesthetically he looks so Cool. I do like it whenever he's seen alongside the Iowa QJs cause they give major little concerned sibling vibes to the QJs.

[1.] Pere Marquette 1225 - PIER!!!!!!!! Beloved for the relatively the same reason as 261. But I really like seeing them in the snow pulling holiday trains! Ploughing through the snow like any and every locomotive but it's when 1225 does it just looks Badass.

No.2: Ginger 0-4-0 saddleback tank engine ( top left corner ) a wild and crazy gal who can zip down the line with zero care and is ready to get her work done quicker! But She is careful of her safety and more reliable with passengers. But if it’s coal or anything from the mine she’s more on the crazy side of joy.

No.3: Betty 0-4-0 the vertical boiler tram( top right corner ) another orderly calm steam locomotive, she’s just like Lord Shamus, calm and isn’t reckless. She’s also and experimental engine, she’s a vertical boiler tram engine. She’s the rarest of the group!

No.4: Joshua 0-4-4T forney steam locomotive ( bottom left corner ) just like Ginger only more careful about his work, but he REALLY loves rippin’ down the rail with dangerous speeds. Although he can be dangerous at most times he cares for his passengers but if they’re rude to him, he’ll give a hell of a ride!

Una comedia de principio a fin con una falta total de respeto a lo que un día fue el DCU. Desperdicio total de la figura de Supergirl . Tanto mame mame y mame con que sería una gran promesa y con futuro para que al final fuera más débil que el propio Barry sin poderes . Sinceramente no se como una actriz como Sasha aceptó tener un rol así. Salvo que le hayan cambiado la jugada al final en la edición que sale en cines . Rescatable el rol de Batman de Keaton. Es lo que mantiene a flote la comedia de DCEU. De the flash bueno es el payaso 🤡 principal de la comedia . No se si vimos al personaje o al verdadero Ezra Miller cuando andaba de loco en Hawái. Igual no se por que Affleck y Gal Gadot de prestaron a hacer sus cameos a sabiendas que les van a dar cuello en el nuevo dc. Y bueno el dinero debió ser bastante para que un actor como Jason Momoa se haya prestado para terrible burla y falta de respeto de su personaje en la escena post créditos . Si así estará la película de Aquaman 2, mejor no hablemos de eso.

Los efectos especiales y el CGI, o como le digan , que les puedo comentar ? . Quedaron perfectos para una película que se haría para streaming (Netflix, HBO Max etc). Con eso se dice todo.
