Not having any wood in stick at the moment I decided to take advantage of some yew and cherry logs I found recently at my local sawmill. Now milled I shall be stacking then up tomorrow for the start of an 18 month seasoning cycle. We're back to boat building this weekend, for the last scheduled workshop of this year. All three coracles have been fitted with the modern cover, with gray making its first ever appearance on one of my courses. Thankfully the sun wasn't shining very much, so the glorious yellow cover didn't blind is with it's brightness! All were almost finished by the end of the day, but Ant and Sue have a very long way to travel so stayed later and took away a completed coracle this evening, which had now been out for a maiden voyage on the Thames. Two traditional and one modern covered coracle made their way out of the workshop today, after a marathon sewing session from the calico covered crew. One boat's gone to live in Peterborough while the other two took a shorter trip to Chertsey this afternoon. After a year of Coracle making courses I usually have a big pile of rejected laths and off-cuts, so the following spring they all get fed through my thicknesser and made into these handy garden planting labels, which are popular in all of the shops I supply. Previously I've bundled then up with coloured wrappings, but was recently introduced to the more subtle brown paper above, which I think I prefer.
