Okay I’ve always found shapeshifting very appealing. It gives you so many options! And really… I just wanna explore the sky and the oceans and everything in between without having to pay to sit in a little container that’s only shuttled through anyway.

But alright here’s a local Dutch cryptid story that I heard as a kid, and stuck with me since.
There’s a creature that lurks by less travelled roads. They call it many different names: Flodder, Kludde, Ossaert, The Glow…
It’s almost never seen, for it hides in creeks and shadows, or disguises itself as a black cat or dog. You may see blue glowing lights, or hear the sound of a chain. Most of the time, however, you will get neither sound or sight of it.
Imagine you go down an empty road at night. There’s no houses, or gas stops, or anything nearby. You’re alone. That’s where it will get to you.
It jumps on your neck and clings to your back. You can’t see what it is, but it’s heavy. Your invisible burden grows heavier with each step, turning your breathing labored and your legs to cement.
There are no known ways to get rid of it, except waiting for the morning, or making it to some form of civilazation. Until then, you must struggle forth, carrying your burden.
Yeah! I think it’s neat! It’s never stated to intend harm. In some stories, it even saves the day! Or, it is described as child like, softly whining in fear. And that’s what I think it is. It’s a certain type of fear, given shape. And if you’ve ever been in this situation, I bet you’ve felt it clinging to your back to.
