Of course, the little Prince never forgot the Elder, even as history did. One of the first things he teaches his cubs (and MK once he unlocks his monkey form in aus where he isnt Wukongs biological cub/TMKATI) is how the elderly storyteller had cared for him on behalf of his birth mother, whom had sacrificed her life to make the egg from which he had been born, and how it had been he who had first inspired Wukong to set out on the path he had done so.
Of course, since he had been staying with the rest of the Noodle Gang due to his home kinda... getting split in two... that means they had the unfortunate matter of eavedroppers when Wukong told MK this
prev.
The Elder was quite old at the time, but he was a beloved babysitter - a true Shí bǎomǔ if there ever was one. And he tried his best to care for the newborn Prince the best he could. His four students, the Stalwart little cubs Ma, Ba, Beng, and Liu, acted as the cub's siblings and playmates, and often brought him to their parents for help in feeding him. Although the Prince was never truly adopted by a member in the troop, he was rarely lacking affection or food from his playmates' parents- many of whom had newborns of their own.
The Baboon and Gibbon had been joys to encounter. The Elder and the wandering pair hooted happily and shared stories for days on end. The sadly could not stay - they had a universe to see afterall - and they departed with the knowledge that there was still more of Them out there beyond the seas and stars.
When a strange Six Eared cub seemingly fell from Heaven, the Elder had been the only adult not terrified of his arrival. He remembered that there were others of his kind out in the stars, just not how many. He along with the Stalwarts and the growing Prince, helped the odd cub learn How to Monkey after a lifetime raised as a Celestial. Macaque didn't forget this elder's kindness when he left Aolai to find a purpose in the stars he'd originated from. He just wished that he had been there to ask more question about what and who they are in the cosmos.
I feel like one of the first things Wukong does as a "true" King of his people is to make a shrine to the Elder of the community that raised him, and helped raise so many of them into wise monkeys. Although his knowledge on Stone Monkeys as a species in a scientific sense was lacking (The Elder had been a storyteller not an alchemist), Wukong makes sure that it is known that Stone Monkeys existed on Aolai, and that he was one of them.
When the Burning occured, many of the shrines had been destroyed, and many of the older monkeys who knew the Elder perished.
By the time of the modern day, only Sun Wukong, The Six Eared Macaque, and the Four Stalwarts that learned from the Elder directly even know he existed.
Wukong hopes to change that.
In the TMKATI au a conversation will certainly occur between Wukong and Macaque over their skills as parents - how can they raise a child of their own if their upbringings were so unusual? Wukong being raised as a child of the monkey community vs Macaque being raised in near (unintentional) isolation with Chang'e. The adults of the noodle gang certainly overhear this conversation, though they do not bring it up directly. Pigsy would start a tangent about being an only child and how he has hundreds of cousins out in the countryside in Gao Village, and how he always felt a little alien amongst them. If only to put Macaque's particular worries to rest.
When MK of any universe begins to ask the Big Questions, Wukong makes sure to pass on the stories of the Elder and of the community of monkey demons that populated Aolai. How the Monkey King was not made in a vacuum. And neither was MK.

“Stay away from my fruit, Stone Monkey!”
“Well you should learn to share, Bonnie!”
Xī Tiānkōng does not appreciate fruit thieves invading her garden. Sun Wukong thinks she should share.

Mount Huaguo’s/FFM’s Generals
🌺
also some of Wukong’s closest allies, the four generals watch and ‘rule’ over the Mountain while Wukong is away. Each a drastically different individual, they are very close with each other when they’re not butting heads.
In order:
Ma (top left)
Ba (top right)
Liu (bottom left)
Beng (bottom right)
I’ll post character sheets sometime soon 🤞
*note: this is pre-burn and Heaven’s wrath.

Shadow of the King Au Art Dump
Since I very rarely get past the sketching phase any presentable art is rare, but I managed to find some for ya'll
Warning for some old ass art:
1. The Stalwart Generals
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I spent an ungodly amount of time figuring out the designs, dynamics, and personalities of all of these monkies so I'll be damned if I don't show them first.
The Generals take care of anything SWK is unable to. They are in charge of FFM when he's not present.
Marshal Ma - While technically all the generals are the same rank, Marshal Ma is considered SWK's unofficial second in command. She's calm in every crisis with a very low bs tolerance and is 75% of the reason why the island doesn't fall to chaos every time SWK leaves. She's highly respected by all the inhabitants and can and will break your spine Bane style if the situation calls for it.
Marshal Liu - Mean bisexual. Marshal Ma's sister and the bane of her existence. On duty she takes her role very seriously. Off duty she likes to keep Ma on her toes with her dumbassery. She's easy going, hates clothes, and loves to fight. She has a slightly concerning amount of knives on her person at all times. She is big gay for General Beng.
General Beng - Meaner lesbian. A siamang and the largest and tallest of the generals. She enjoys dressing up, tea (both kinds), and a good party. She has a very short fuse. While her size and strength alone would generally deter anyone from testing her temper, there are always idiots. She can fight, but she knows her Liu would enjoy it more.
General Ba - The youngest of the generals. While she's not shy, she is very quiet. She does not waste her words. But, when she speaks, the others will stop whatever they're doing to listen. She likes to spend her free time in the libraries. Get her in the right mood and she'll argue with you for hours about the most random subjects.
.
2. Macaque face evolution
Tumblr media
Was trying to get a feel for Macaque's face and how it changes throughout the au. Top right is the youngest, bottom right is the oldest. Bro gets all sorts of messed up from the whole died and resurrection thing and very much looks wrong afterwards.
.
3. New fit
Tumblr media
Macaque and SWK have the whole cape thing going on, I figured SWK gave Mac one of his own when he was still training under him. I like to think it holds a lot of sentimental value to him since he still wears it in present day but he would rather get his head smashed in again than admit it.
.
4. I'm sure this won't come back to bite anyone later
Tumblr media
Eeesh. Imagine spending your whole life training to receive and keep the Sun Wukong's attention only for him to casually give it to some random human boy thousands of years later. I mean, Macaque did betray him and everything, but it's the principle.
.
5. The Tongbi Gibbon Concepts
Tumblr media
One of the four world-wrecking/celestial monkies. My brain was very focused on the whole pulling celestial bodies out of the sky part of her abilities that I made her based around that line.
Don't know if this fit is still canon as she and the Horse Monkey had a large role to play in Shadow of the King, and I'm considering if I should take them out
.
Bonus:
Tumblr media
I consider the Tongbi gibbon and the Horse Monkey to be older than both Sun Wukong and Macaque in Shadow of the King. The Horse Monkey is the eldest, but the Tongbi's age is nothing to sniff at.
That being said, that does not mean she can't be bought.
Takes place after all the traumatizing shit in SotK
Panel 1
Tongbi: Child, I am an ancient being. I hold the power of gods within me. I was witness to the birth of the Great Sage himself. I have seen nations and empires rise and fall. I have gathered and spent innumerable wealth. Yet you think you can bribe me with 20 yuan?
Panel 2
The host: ...how 'bout 30?
Panel 3
Off-panel (Horse Monkey): TONGBI!!
MK: I thought the nimbus made you airsick
Red Son: Not helping, Noodle Boy
Tongbi: BOTH OF YOU SHUT UP!

Gibbon
Tumblr media
Heh, I was struggling with the background a bit. Btw gibbons have fur all around their bodies. She's neutral on clothing, she doesn't hate them but she doesn't like them either. Nezha picks out their clothes which is very cute since he probably has a wardrobes of different clothing for him and Yuan.
This is not Yuan actual outfit or form I am just playing around with the osp inspired style, I really love how Red draws. But I'm not very good with clothing or what to show of how powerful they are since I want it to match the characters a bit...idk? I just did it because Yuan is not a fan of multiple layers covering her. It uncomfortable especially with all the fur, as long as it not heavy and the fabric is light and not overbearing Yuan will like it. Nezha wants Yuan to be more proper and poise but when you live in the wild with two wild superpower monkeys and a cave full of them it a bit impossible.
So Nezha given up, but don't worry Yuan has manners for their way of observing humanity and being involved in their science and agriculture. She is knowledgeable but still a wild monkey. Also fun fact! Yuan is part of the universe they control half of it but not entirely. So...whatever happened with Azure yeah that fucked her up a bit. YOU ALL KNOW NEZHA WENT TO SEE HER IMMEDIATELY!

I'd say I'm becoming a nerd, but that ship sailed a long time ago. I guess I'm just expanding my nerdiness to other areas.
Anyway, MORE MYTHOLOGY!
So in Journey to the West, the Buddha explains that there are 4 'spiritual primates' that don't fit into any categories for immortals or types of creatures. Fans of Lego Monkie Kid are likely familiar with 2, the Stone Monkey Sun Wukong and the Six Eared Macaque. The other 2, the Long-armed Gibbon and the Red-Buttocked Baboon are a lot more obscure. They only get a brief mention in JttW because the focus of the chapter they appear in is Macaque, but the idea of a set of super powerful Immortal monkeys is just too fun to pass up, you know? So I've been thunking my thinker.
What if each primate was associated with a different realm (mortal, heavenly, lunar, and underworld) and element? I know the 4 elements (earth, water, wind, fire) are a western idea rooted in alchemy and eastern mythology has 5 elements (earth, water, fire, metal, wood), but there aren't 5 monkeys and this is just a thought experiment and not me trying to force western ideas onto eastern culture.
Got it? Good.
Now, Sun Wukong is very solidly earth because he's, you know, a rock. No surprise there. He was also born in the mortal realm and spent most of his life there, so we'll call him the celestial primate of the mortal realm while we're at it.
The Six-Eared Macaque is another easy one. A lot of LMK fannon associates him with wind, inferring that his heightened hearing has something to do with wind magic. He's also very closely tied to the moon because of the line in "Shadow Play" where he directly compares the Warrior (himself) to the moon. So Macaque is the celestial primate of wind and the Lunar realm.
Now here's where we get a bit more speculative and start using information creatively. There are 2 monkeys, realms, and elements left I want to use, so let's start with the monkeys so everyone has a baseline understanding.
The Long Armed Gibbon (Gibs, from now on) is described as being able to "seize the sun and moon, shorten a thousand mountains, distinguish auspicious from inauspicious, and manipulate planets and stars."
The Red Buttocked Baboon (Babs for short) has "knowledge of yin and yang, understands human affairs, is adept I'd daily life and can avoid death and lengthen its life."
Starting with the realms because they seem easiest to assign, I would give Gibs the Heavenly realm because of its ability to move around celestial objects like the sun, moon, planets, and stars. This leaves the Underworld to Babs, which I think fits nicely because their "knowledge of yin and yang" and "understand[ing] of human affairs" would make them a good assistant to the 10 Kings of the Underworld.
Next comes the 2 remaining elements, water and fire, which are a bit tricky because it could go both ways.
Gibs could be fire because the sun and stars are giant balls of burning plasma, but also water because the sky/heavens are often associated with an ocean or other bodies of water in several different mythologies. For example, in Egyptian mythology, Ra sailed his boat through the sky every day, while in early Abrahamic belief the sky was a huge dome with water on the other side, and rain happened when floodgates were opened to let the water through. In Chinese myth specifically, the Milky Way is often depicted as a river that is sailed through by various deities.
Babs could fit with fire as well because underworlds and hell-adjacent places are often shown to have fires to torment and punish the sinful dead, no surprise there. But there is surprisingly a lot of water symbolism in the realm of the dead as well. For example, some people may be familiar with the Japanese idea of the Sanzu River, very similar in concept to the Greek River Styx, as well as the Chinese Huang Quan/Yellow springs.
Personally I would pair Babs with fire because he has red in his name, making him the celestial primate of fire and the Underworld.
That leaves Gibs to be the celestial primate of water and the Heavenly realm.
I feel pretty good about this, but if anyone else has other ideas I'd love to hear them.

I present to you, one of the four celestial primates, Long-Armed Gibbon:
(In every dub besides Chinese, she goes by Gibby/Gibbon)
Tumblr media
Design Details: As you can tell, some of her design is inspired from stars. Her outfit coloration is meant to be a direct swap of Red Baboon's. I decided to make her little face heart upside down, to really show her personality type. Her black outfit was inspired off of ninjas. If her cape looks out of place, good, it's supposed to. Her skin is grey just like a real gibbon. Hair is much poofier and spikier than the others. She prefers to fight with fists or use her powers. Strands of her hair can turn into little stars (you could call 'em "ninja stars" heh hehe..)
(Listen, we were given basically zilch on the other two primates so I worked with what I got.)
Here's a link to the season 5 fanfic I'm writing with her in it: Wattpad Link

If the Gibbon and/or Baboon told Wukong about the Stone Eggs before leaving earth, why wouldn't they make a pit stop on the moon to give Macaque the same talk?
They honestly probably did!
On their way off-planet they took a rest stop with Chang'e before leaving the solar system. They probably met Macaque this way, all primates super-surprised to see eachother.
Young Macaque: *has never seen another monkey before* ◉ ̫ ◉ Babs and Gibs: *did not expect to see a monkey on the moon* Babs: "Uh..." Gibs: "Hi little one!"
The two older monkeys stay on the moon longer than they had planned (Chang'e was delighted for the company) so that they could impart basic monkey knowledge since Macaque and the other lunar deities didn't know any of it.
They get to the; "Make sure not to bury yourself, or you're body will start to make a Stone Egg that could kill you" - talk after a good few teaching sessions about the regular way monkey infants get made. It left the little moon-shadow monkey very disturbed.
Ironically the pair forgot to specify that it was an ability *special* to Stone Monkeys. Macaque spent years thinking that *any* one could accidentally create a Stone Egg if they got buried for long enough.
First time he saw someone taking a mud bath, he started screaming.
As for Macaque knowing that Wukong was under the mountain... he sorta assumed since his head was exposed, the Stone Egg process couldn't happen. Like, he thought maybe you needed to be completely airtight for your body to start doing it.
In the aus where Macaque returns to see a Stone Egg-pregnant Wukong, he still has a moment of "Who did this to you!? I'll kill them!" before he remembers "Oh yeah..."

So I had a kinda wild Lmk dream last night and I figured I could ramble about it-
So, in this dream, there’s another big world ending threat that they need help from a specific person to defeat the bad guy that’s behind this new threat to the world. This person they need help from is the long armed gibbon
Thing is, she (btw the long armed gibbon is female in this dream) was actually imprisoned by Wukong (she got the deluxe version of being trapped under a mountain like Wukong was, meaning it took a lot more to keep her contained) because she was incredibly powerful and dangerous. This means Wukong knows where she was and they go to where she’s trapped at, and when they get there, she’s gone, she escaped somehow.
So they have to go find her and when they finally manage to do so after a bunch of searching around and journey shenanigans that I can’t remember the details of, Wukong tells her they need her help and she looks at him and says, “No. I’m not helping you.”
And that’s what happened in my dream, I think I woke up after that so sadly it ended with the Long armed Gibbon telling Wukong no-

GUYS— MY BRAIN CAGE GAVE ME ANOTHER BRAIN THEORY THOUGHT
I swear this is the last post before I sleep—
Okay, so this is just a random theory I had that’s most likely false but for some reason I thought of.
Okay, so people know the theory of MK being connected to one of the other two Celestial Monkeys, the Long Armed Gibbon and the Red-Buttocked Baboon (Macaque and Wukong being the other pair).
BUT I’M THROWING IN A FACTOR TO THE THEORY
What if (and hear me out) MK isn’t just ONE of the two, but instead BOTH of them, or at least is supposed to be connected to the two? I can explain.
Let’s start with the Long-Armed Gibbon.
Tumblr media
The most notable skill this primate possesses is the ability to seize the sun and moon, AKA celestial bodies that reside in the sky.
In the Chinese dub of the show, MK’s name is “Qi Xiaotian”, which is roughly translated into phrases like “Little Heaven” and “Together Little Sky”. This could definitely be referring to the Gibbon in this case, because Celestials (both planets and beings) and the sky are major factors that play into both the show and the characteristics of the Long-Armed Gibbon.
Moving on to the Red-Buttocked Baboon!
Tumblr media
This primate in question has a bit more solid connection to MK in my opinion, since 1, the Baboon has the knowledge of Yin and Yang as well as human affairs, which in the case of MK who has lived amongst mortals all his life, fits perfectly.
And 2, MK literally wears red pants and a red headband. So, color-wise, it checks out.
How MK could be both of them is something to be debated about. BUT BASICALLY, what if the two primates ended up having to sacrifice themselves in order to help Nuwa create MK, so she could give him their energy? Maybe that’s why we haven’t gotten any news about them in the show, why we haven’t seen them at all.
Because we’ve already seen their present form and have followed him throughout the entire dang show.
Or this could just be stemming from sleep deprivation. Maybe I should go to sleep now—
(ARTWORKS ARE NOT MINE BTW!! THEY BELONG TO OVERLY SARCASTIC PRODUCTIONS ON YOUTUBE!!! GO SUPPORT THEM!!!)
