The Second Week Dawns (3/29)

Song of the Day: That’s All 

Seventeen hours. Over two days. I’ve been at work dealing with stupid people and even stupider questions. No ma’am you can not return a pineapple you’ve cut. (Yes, that was an actual question I got today.) I work as a cashier at Mariano’s on 111th and Cicero. That implies that I should actually be a cashier, right? Wrong. For my shift today I was told to work in the diary department, which means I get to stand in a dairy freezer and move milk around. Sounds fun right?

I walked into the freezer and was instantly hit by a wave of cold. I pushed forward and started my tedious job. I was tasked with organizing all of the milk we had in the back by size and type of milk. Easily over five hundred gallons lay in front of me, almost taunting me. I grab my hook and I get to work.

Three hours in and I’m still freezing and working my arse off. I’m trying a risky maneuver and was singing a song. Instantly, I feel a sharp pain shot through my foot. I look down and suddenly I see the milk crates on my foot. Great. Easily 20 gallons of milk in crates have just crushed my right foot. I do the sensible thing and move my foot out from under the crates. This is where the fun begins. The crates begin to tip over and in one swift motion, twenty gallons are sprawled out across the floor. One explodes on impact, covering my coworker who just walked in from head to toe in skim milk. Obviously, annoyed she calls the manager and I get kicked out of the freezer. Now being the model employee that I am, I proceeded to walk around the store and do nothing for the remaining three hours of my shift. I helped customers here and there, but there is no way that I’m going back to the front end. I finished up my shift and left in a hurry before they could call me back for anything. I drove home and passed out on my bed. I woke up around 8 o’clock and ate dinner. My sister is a bit of a chef and made an amazing dish with a name I can’t recall. When dinner is done I hope back onto Minecraft to forget my pains of the day. It’s currently 11:56 and my eyes are beginning to droop. Well, that’s enough for today.

The Twenty Fourth Day (Easter 4/12)

Song of the Day: Be Still

T-6 days until unemployment. I don’t work today, thank goodness. I woke up at a cool 9 with my mother screaming for breakfast. She had made her special breakfast casserole and I was excited for breakfast, for once. It was delicious and my parents told us that we’d be having a miniature version of our usual Easter dinner tonight. I knew what that meant: Prime Rib and mashed potatoes, however, dinner was in 10 hours and I had to find something worthwhile to do until then.

For some reason, I felt motivated and began to do my homework. I knocked out all of my math homework and finished an easy quarter of my bio packet. This was new to me, as I’d usually just do it all in one sitting the night before. After that homework, I decided to hop onto my college website, Xavier University, and check my To-Do List. I saw the two placement tests I had to take and figured there’d be no better time than now to get them out of the way. 

I started with Spanish which took my fifteen minutes, being honest I did not know a lot, but I felt confident with a lot of my answers. I finished the test and was alerted that my responses have been graded already. I was nervous when I saw my score of a 400 number. I looked at the rubric and realized that that score was actually in the highest category and I did well. This was a huge relief as the next beast loomed over me; math. I began the test and saw a sign for no calculator. Great. I put mine to the side and bagen the exam. It took me the better half of an hour and I finished right before dinner was to be served. The results wouldn’t be out until June so I knew there’s no point in worrying about it now. 

We sat down for dinner and dug into the feast that my parents had prepared. It was amazing. I was happy that our Easter was able to be spent together as a family still. I hope your Easters were spent well and in good company too. I am praying for you all and wish you the best in their trying times. I wish I could do like Danny Devito and offer you an egg, but alas. Well, that’s enough for today.
