Level: 2 _B1 Pre-intermediate
The idea of the text: The woman who wanted women to be able vote
Summarize:
Tumblr media
Emmeline Pankhurst was born in Manchester, in the north of England, in 1858. Back then British women couldn’t vote in elections, but men could. Emmeline went to school in Paris, France.
As she grew up she became interested in politics and wanted to create a more equal society for women and men. She wanted women to have the same rights as men, such as the right to an education, the right to have a good job and, perhaps most importantly, the right to vote.
In 1888, the girls who worked at the Bryant and May match factory in London went on strike. They stopped working and asked the owner of the factory to improve their terrible working conditions. They worked 14 hours a day and were fined for dropping matches on the floor. Many of the girls were ill because they worked with dangerous chemicals. Emmeline supported the strike.
Emmeline formed The Women's Social and Political Union, also called the Suffragettes, in 1903. The Suffragettes were a group who fought for women’s rights, especially the right to vote. They published a newspaper called Votes for Women which sold 20,000 copies a week. The Suffragettes also held demonstrations, and they often broke the law by smashing windows or chaining themselves to fences to protest. In 1913, a Suffragette called Emily Davison was killed when she threw herself under the king's horse at a famous horse race, as a protest because the government refused to give women the right to vote. In 1918, the British government gave women aged over 30 the right to vote, although men could vote when they were 21. Women were finally allowed to vote at the same age as men shortly after Emmeline died on 14 June 1928. Emmeline Pankhurst is sometimes described as one of the most influential people of the 20th century
Listening strategies: Re-listen and find the idea and take a notes for a new word.
What I learned from the listening: From this story, I learn about Emmeline Pankhurst and the suffragettes, learn a range of language related to political struggle – protest, to bring about change, petitions, demonstration, politicians, equal rights, revolution, support, freedom, break the law, vote, take notice, women’s suffrage

Young Lean is someone who I discovered Freshman year of high school. He began his career making strange, compelling rap songs with equally confusing music videos. I listened in high school often to his albums “Kyoto” and “Yoshi CIty”. After I graduated high school I guess I just forgot about Young Lean because today was the first day in years where I listened to him! This new track “Red Bottom Sky” is so different from his older work. It is so much more developed and his lyric choices are more than just to be outrageous, they tell a story. I look forward to listening to his work in the future and am excited to listen to the work he has produced in the years between my last listen.

The Black Parade Album - My Chemical Romance (2 Songs)
Mama: This particular song from this album is not on a soundtrack or film score of a Movie although I believe that it has checked all of the criteria that I have established that makes up a Film Score. Mama has a mixture of Digital and Instrumental music components, the beginning of the song to the ending has hit and pieces of digital effects, for example the bombs exploding adds to the effect of the story of the song. I believe this song would capture a scene of a war scene or a character dying. Perhaps even revenge.
Mama - Piano Comparison This piano cover, let’s the listener experience the components of the Original song, however is very dissonant.
Welcome To The Black Parade: This song is particular has a very distinct story line to it. The articulation of the Piano is really important to the at the beginning has a very emotive melody to it which adds to the characters that Gerard Way is singing about. The texture of the song changes throughout as the lyrics tell the story about the characters and emotions of the songs and gradually becomes thicker and thicker.
Welcome To The Black Parade - Piano Comparison: The articulation of the melody of this version was to blended and blended into the Rhythm to much until it got to the chorus where the articulation was much worse, there was no emotion to the piece at all and hardly connected with the Film a Score checklist that I had created in class, however when listening to another version the articulation was much much better, you could hear the emotion in the music, the Rhythm and Melody was were much better blending and bled into each other. There was more skill involved in the second version and was a better portrayal of the original version as the sustain was only use when needed.

Loving is Easy
3/10/18
youtube
“Loving Is Easy” by Rex Orange is a lovely, simple song about how being in a difficult relationship can make it hard to remember that love should be something that comes naturally. The song works beautifully along side the stop-motion video. The video starts simply with the two men casually playing music around their own house. Slowly, the house starts to move along with the lyrics and tempo of the song. The song and the video create an atmosphere of realization and reveling in the simple pleasures of life like sitting on your couch and listening to a record. Near the end of the song, the house and instruments seem to be dancing happily along side the lead singer. Day turns to night and the lead singer is abducted by a large glowing heart in the sky. The song captures the feeling of being young and in love. I’ve chosen to include this song in my listening diary because it has been something that I keep coming back to when I am in a good mood and feel like for a moment the world is in just as good mood as I am .

“The truth will set you free... but first it will piss you off” those are the first lines of N.E.R.D & Rihanna’s song Lemon. Cleverly disguised by a catchy beat, the lyrics to this song address a variety of historical and current politically and racially charged events. The first verse begins as many pop songs do, discussing how popular the singer is, how women want to be with them, and how much money he has. But by the last two lines of the verse the song brings up the fact that people cannot believe his race. This refers to the fact that this is a black group who have achieved a high status in society and because of their ethnicity people are surprised. The second verse is where the lyrics bring up racial and political issues. The lyrics bring up Trump and his opinions on the boarder, gun control, how people should stand up now against oppression while they still has a voice, how people are listening and accepting Trump’s words when they should have been questioning them all along. The song goes on to talk about how other people’s “eyes get acidic” meaning others are jealous, but “we aint finished/ I told you we wont stop” they will not stop until the issues at hand are addressed and dealt with. Not only are the lyrics a statement, the music video is as well. A woman with a shaved head dressed in early 2000s clothes dances with no bra. She is not sexualized, but she does often put her hands up in the air as people on the front lines of a march must do in order to not be shot. Her movements are fluid and aggressive. She dances in an abandoned market place. There are bikes, food stands, arcade games, and clothes. The lights are dark blue and pink. The music video sets an eerie scene with matches beautifully with the lyrics.

2. Donnie Darko Soundtrack: Mad World
This song was recommended by a friend. This song captures the essence of the Emotion of Mental Illness the depth of the harmonies has a sense of innocences. The lyrics of this piece conveys how Donnie is mad but the events in his life has kept him Alive.
Mad World - Gary Jules - Donnie Darko Theme Piano Cover
This piano cover of Gary Jules ‘Mad World’ without lyrics still has the sense of innocence if not more than the original as it has no vocals that grasps the attention of the listener rather than the actual melody of the Piano. However this cover is significantly shorter it still captures the movies intended mood and emotion.

The Dark Knight Soundtrack
1. Why So Serious?: This song on this soundtrack really builds suspense, even when listening to it and not the visual. The song really portrays The Jokers presense and how your hear starts to race because you know something will happen. The different times in the song is a way to build te suspence. The heart beat effect in this peice really adds to the mood by using a heart beat that is fast making the listeners heart beat faster trying to anticipate what will happen next
Piano Comparison Piano: Why so Serious This version of 'Why so Serious' captures the intensity of the scene and the mystery of the scene and the Jokers character. However does not give any depth to the theme. The Dark Knight Trilogy - Best of (MELODY) Although this is on the version of the piece the depth is really prevalent as the right hand is playing further down on the Piano. The intensity of the right hand the essence of the theme is captured almost as well as the Original theme.
