WW Link was raised on a tiny little island by his grandmother, with his closest in age peer being his baby sister. Both his grandmother and the two old men on the island taught him on stories of past Heroes and knightly valor. The only other family on the island has two little toddlers who adore and follow him around as if he hung the stars. This boy was raised to be a gentleman who helps everyone without hesitation, a perfect example of ideal knightly chivalry, protecting and caring for women, children and the elderly.
And then the day he enters adolescence, filled with stories of the Hero saving his Princess and the kingdom, he meets a girl his age for the first time in his life, captured and in danger just like the damsels in distress from his stories.
And she instantly starts bullying him
Because Tetra was raised by pirates who obey her every command without hesitation. This girl is half feral, will stab unprovoked, and has probably never heard the words 'manners' or 'no' in life. For all her ignorance of her lineage, she is still a spoiled princess, just instead of proper tutors and nursemaids at her beckon call she has a rowdy crew of pseudo uncles and brothers that are trying their best to raise this little girl but are still pirates. She says "I'm bored. Let's fight a sea monster!" and they gleefully say "Yes Miss Tetra! Here's your sword!" without hesitation.
And Link falls in love, with this feral gremlin, who thinks it's funny to shoot him out of a catapult, across open ocean, face first, into a wall, of a heavily armed enemy fortress.
And once their adventure is done, his little sister decides this is her new rolemodel.
And now Link is the Hero and Tetra is the Princess, and they're tasked with re-founding the kingdom of Hyrule.
And I really want to see more of their dynamic in this lifetime than we see in their two games. I want to see Grandma's reaction to meeting the Princess that her grandson loves and granddaughter idolizes. I want to see him attempting to woo her using how he was taught to treat people, and her just being so confused by all this sappy softness. I want to see the kingdom of Hyrule that was founded by a fierce Pirate Queen and her tender gentleman Hero, before it was stabilized by any future generations. Because the dichotomy of their upbringings has such comedic potential that is not utilized enough.

“Zelda?” he repeated. “What is it?” This was something bad, this was something terrible. But why had Impa only addressed the letter to him? Was it something she didn’t want Zelda to know?
“Link, I…” Zelda looked at the letter again. Her eyes flashed with utter fury. “There is- something’s happened. A family has arrived in Kakariko, from Lurelin. They asked Impa for your whereabouts.”
“Oh,” Link said. “Is that all? Do they need help?”
Zelda took a deep breath and put the letter down. She took Link’s hands.
“Link, darling,” she said, much softer now, as if trying not to spook him. “Their matriarch claims to be Aryll.”
*
One hundred years ago, unknown to everyone, Aryll survived the Calamity. Unknown to her, Link was brought back from the dead.
Now, with Ganon gone and news of Link and Zelda's survival spreading through Hyrule, Aryll goes in search of her big brother alongside her family. But how to prove herself? How to confirm that she's exactly who she says she is?
Or: Aryll lived. Link lived. After one hundred years, it's time to reunite.

Story Summary: After spending five years stuck in the World of the Ocean King, Link returns to the Great Sea, only to find it changed beyond recognition. His friends and family view him as a traitor, accusing him of causing chaos across the ocean. With his allies all turned against him and a curse threatening to take his life, he sets out to reconnect with the one person who may be able to clear his name: Tetra.
Meanwhile, something sinister is rising over the Great Sea--a shadow seeking to spill the hero's blood and revive its fallen master. And this time, Link may not be strong enough to stop it on his own.
Ships: Link/Tetra
Rating: T
Warnings: Angst, Trauma, Violence, Blood and Injury, Torture, Harm to Children, Psycological Trauma
Chapter Summary: A pirate captain and her crew uncover an unsettling mystery... “Be sure to keep my Link safe now. In every way there is.” That’s what Link’s grandmother had told her shortly before they set out from Outset. Tetra didn’t think much of it at the time; it was just a word of caution from a concerned caregiver and little more. Only now does she realize the old woman hadn’t been worrying about her grandson losing his life to the sea. She was worried about Link losing his heart to the pirate captain he was sailing it with.  How unfortunate it is, then, that he ended up losing both.   Click the link to read more; all comments are appreciated!

Now that @goddesszine is out (and has been out for a month), here's the first piece I did for the zine earlier this year!
When applying for the zine and the character I wanted to do, I immediately picked Link's grandma from Wind Waker. Wind Waker was my first LoZ game, and it's always had a soft spot in my heart. I'm also very soft family dynamics, so this was very fun for me.
See below for some different ideas and composition I went through:

Trans Aryll
Aryll was a little girl who lived on Outset Island with her brother Link and their Grandma. She spent most of her time playing outside with the seagulls and with her telescope. She had a good relationship with Link who she usually called him “Big Brother.”
“Hey, Big Brother!” She called. “Wanna play with me on the lookout?” Link smiled.
“Sure. Why not. You can be the captain and I'll be your crew.”
“Are you sure you don't wanna be captain?”
“I was captain last time. This way it's fair.” Aryll giggled. She liked how her brother treated her so well.
“You lead the way, little bro.” Aryll didn't like that name or her real name that she always blocked out. She didn't blame Link or her Grandma for using them; they didn't know. Aryll felt like she was really a girl. She hasn't told anyone though. She envied the other girls on the island. How lucky they were. She just wished she had the courage to tell her family. One day she and Link saw their Grandma sewing something.
“What are you sewing, Grandma?” Link asked. Grandma put on a kind face and looked at her grandson.
“Your heroes suit for your coming of age.”
“Heroes suit...” Link questioned. Grandpa held the green tunic in front of her and Link cringed.
“You'll get to wear this own your birthday in a few months.” Link rubbed his face.
“Do I have to? The other kids will laugh at me. I can't get a girlfriend wearing that.” Grandma laughed. “It's only for one day, sweetheart. All boys have to wear it when they come of age. One day they will have to wear one too.” Grandpa turned to Aryll. “You too, puppet.” Aryll frowned at that. It wasn't that she hated the tunic like Link did. She thought it actually look kind of cool. It was that the tunic was a step towed manhood. Just a reminder of who she really was. She'd much rather wear the princess dress when she was of age. About a week later she told herself she was going to tell her family the truth.
“Grandma, Big Brother. There's something I need to tell you.” She walked to them. Grandpa was working on the tunic and Link was reading a book.
“Can it wait till I finish my book?” Link asked.
“No. It can't, Link.” Link was surprised that his brother said his name. This must have been serious.
“When..when I become of age I don't want to wear the heroes tunic.” Grandma look surprised.
“But you have too, sweetheart. It's in tradition. All boys have-”
“That's the thing, Grandma. I'm not a boy.” She stopped a moment before continuing. “I'm a girl. My name is Aryll. As a girl I don't have to wear the tunic because I'm not a man. It's not that I hate it like Big Brother. I know I'm a girl inside and wearing it means people will think I'm on the next step to manhood. I don't want that. I want to wear the princess dress when I become of age. Please don't make me wear it. Please let me be a girl instead.”
On that day Aryll officially became herself. She got her new name, new clothes, and grew her hair out. Her favorite new piece of clothing was a blue dress with flower patterns on it.
“Here.” Grandma said. She put Arylls hair in ponytails. “You look just like I did when I was your age. Though I was a little bit more pretty.”
“Grandma.” Aryll rolled her eyes.
Grandma and Link helped her become their granddaughter and sister. When Link become of age he got the clothes. He hated it by Aryll though he looked rather heroic in them. He did become a hero when she was mistakenly taken by a big bird and taken to a fortress. There she met a rich girl named Mila and a poor girl named Maggie.
”I think I've heard of you.” Mila said. “You're that boy who decided to be a girl.”
“Yeah. I've heard of that too. Some kid from Outset Island wanted to be a girl.”
“I am a girl!” Aryll said firmly.
“I didn't say you weren't.” Mila replied.
“Neither did I.” Maggie said.
“So-so you think I'm a girl”
“If you say you are.” Mila told her.
“You look like one to me.” Maggie agreed.
Aryll developed a little bit of a friendship with the girls. They already saw her as a girl. At one point she got a purple dress with a skull on it. She actually liked it as it made her feel like a pirate. Eventually Link rescued them. She also met Tetra who happened to be Princess Zelda. After Link saved Hyrule Aryll returned to her normal life on Outset Island. Link helped Zelda keep Hyrule safe and Aryll as well.
“Princess Zelda. You think I'm a girl don't you?”
“You're as much as a girl as I am a pirate.” She was wearing her Tetra uniform. She found the dress too formal and girly.
“Is that a good thing?” Aryll asked.
“Do you think I make a good pirate?”
“Yeah.”
“Well, there you go.” Tetra said.
“Thank you. Your highness. I can't wait until my coming of age.
When Aryll did come of age she didn't have to wear the green tunic. Instead, she wore a princess dress just like Zelda's. She had her hair down like the Princess and Zelda helped her with her makeup. Everyone agreed she looked beautiful.
“Now I just have to wait for my knight to save me.” Aryll said.

“Would you like to see it?” Zelda asked. “The house, I mean.”
Aryll’s grin widened. “Yes,” she said. “Goddess, yes please. And then I’m dragging you two to Lurelin for an extended vacation.”
That sounded good to him.
He turned to Purah and said, “You’d better figure that teleportation rune out quickly.”
“Yeah, Linky?”
“I don’t want to have to travel for weeks when I want to see Aryll.”
Aryll beamed. Link wondered if he and Zelda were going to end up relocating to Lurelin.
“Fair enough,” Purah said. She was still sketching new designs for Sheikah towers- only they wouldn’t be called that anymore. She wasn’t sure what to call them, but she wanted to create new teleportation points, now that the Sheikah towers had been torn down. They were still dismantling the shrines and Guardians. Robbie had promised that Link could be the first one to take a hammer to the Shrine of Resurrection.
Aryll tugged on his sleeve. She had Lucy tucked under her arm and, for a moment, Link saw a little girl again, bright-eyed and eager.
“When do we leave?” she asked.
*
Link and Aryll are back together at last.

Chapter Summary: A demon plays with its prey, hoping to wear it down using the most sadistic means possible...
He’s drowning.  There’s no other word to describe it, even though he knows it’s not entirely true. He’s almost drowned a handful of times before. Times where he’d nearly lost himself beneath the surface of the waves, though he’d always managed to find the last bout of strength he needed to to swim upward and outward out of the greedy depths. But now…  Now is nothing like any of those times.
