[ id: a comic featuring the main characters from "Nature Cat". we see them marching in a line, with Nature Cat leading, Daisy hopping behind him, and Hal behind her with Squeeks on his shoulder. Nature Cat pauses and yells "Halt!" making the others skid to a stop. Squeeks asks "Hey, what's up, Natch?" He gestures off to the side and says "There's a snail crossing." The last panel shows the snail moving along happily as they exclaim off screen: "You go, lil guy!", "Hi snail-y, it's me, Hal!" and "Happy trails!". end id ]

Thank you for changing my life from the rock into a beautiful diamond and thank you for coming back into my life , thank you for accepting the worst Extrovert in you life , thank you for always give me a 90% energy in your life , thank you for always bring me into your friend convo, thank you for bring me to meet your friend too that was a great for me , thank you for bring me into your family , thank you for always hold my hand on motorcycle , thank you for a thousand tears, kiss, hug for me . thanks you for all the badmoods, angry, jealous that we give to each other sorry for not being your best girl , sorry i’m not perfect but’ i always try to be perfect for you in every kind of situation , sorry for always crying about a stupid things , sorry for overthinking and all the bad happens on this years and one thing you should know is..

Enre Aso.
Logawiah (a.)
Letters from a Stoic karya Lucius Seneca adalah bacaan terkini yang membuat saya banyak belajar tentang kehidupan.

homestuck: emotion, yet peace
AU: STAR WARS - jedi knight karkat turned darksider and his ex-padawan now jedi knight dirk strider SHIP: DIRK/KARKAT WARNINGS: HURT/COMFORT; HURT/NO COMFORT RATING: TEEN CHARACTERS: DIRK STRIDER, ROXY LALONDE, JANE CROCKER, JAKE ENGLISH, AUTO-RESPONDER/LIL’ HAL, KARKAT VANTAS NOTES: oh my god dirk i’m so sorry
'Dirk?' Roxy asked softly. Dirk opened his eyes. He stared at the ceiling. He was in a spaceship flying though space in search of his missing Master. Dirk sat up.
He prodded at the Force bond they built as master and padawan. It was still there. His Master didn't cut it when Dirk has become a Jedi Knight. It was silent from his Master's side. Dirk buried his face in his hands.
He had become a Jedi Knight a six months ago and his Master had disappeared a day after he was knighted with only a note and a package. The note said Don't come looking for me. But Dirk couldn't do that. He had scoured Coruscant then went off planet. He had chased him down with the help of his friends but no luck yet.
He got off the cot and dressed. He only spent a few minutes styling his hair. He clipped his lightsaber to his belt. Dirk ran his hand under his hair. He could feel the weight of his padawan braid. His Master had cut it with a soft, proud smile. Dirk went to the door. It slid open and he was face to face with Roxy. 'What is it?' he asked.
Roxy looked worried. 'I think we might have found him,' they managed to say.
Dirk stared at them in shock. 'How?' he whispered.
Roxy swallowed. 'Your Master sent a message. Hal received a signal an hour ago.'
'You should have told me right away,' Dirk said then marched past them.
Roxy jogged after him. 'We didn't want to tell you,' they admitted. Dirk stopped then turned around to look at them. 'We know how sad it would make you,' they admitted.
'It doesn't matter,' Dirk said. He continued walking. He walked into the cockpit. Jake was pilot and Jane was his co-pilot. His black seven foot droid Hal stood behind their chair. 'What did he say? Where did the signal come from?' he asked urgently. Jane and Jake glanced at each other then looked at Dirk. They looked at him worriedly. Their eyes moved to Hal.
'Hal?' Jane asked.
'I'll play it for you,' Hal said.
There was a crackle of the radio then a voice, his Master's voice. Low and raspy. 'You've been looking for me. Stupid,' his Master said with fondness, 'but this can't go on for any longer. Come find me, it's time to end this.'
'The signal came from Ilum,' Roxy said. Dirk looked at the floor. Ilum. He had went to that planet years ago. After the strange Jedi Knight Karkat Vantas took him as his padawan, he had taken him there to find the kyber crystal for his lightsaber. He had picked one and it was the first time he had seen him smile. Small and soft and fond.
The strange Jedi Knight Karkat Vantas had turned into his Master. Dirk lifted his head. 'Let's go,' he said determinedly. Jake nodded. The ship went into hyperdrive.
Dirk sat down on the floor, staring at it. Six months, he had searched for his six months and he would search for him even it would take him for years. But it was ending because his Master had called him. Time to end this. What did that mean? Dirk clenched his jaw. It didn't matter what it meant, he won't let his Master end this. Not now, not ever.
There was a shadow over him. Dirk looked up. Hal sat down beside him. 'I'm going with you,' he said.
It took a moment for Dirk to process it 'You aren't,' he replied.
'I am. I have to be there. I have to see him,' Hal insisted.
'Why?' Dirk demanded.
'It's different but Karkat is my master too,' Hal said.
Dirk stared at him. His shoulders slumped. 'Ok,' he muttered. That was the only thing he could really say. That was true, it really was. Hal was annoying and frustrating. His Master had agreed with that assessment but every time he had wanted to disassemble Hal, Master had stopped him each time. His Master was fond of Hal and taught him as many things as he taught Dirk.
Roxy stopped in front of him. They handed him a thermos and a bowl of soup. Dirk ate and drink without tasting any of it. He handed them back to Roxy. They stepped back without a word. They looked at him with worry then looked at Jake and Jane. They went to wash them and put them back.
Dirk slumped against the ship wall. Hal rested his hand on Dirk's shoulder. It was heavy. Dirk didn't have it in him to muster some annoyance to shrug it off. The weight was comforting. The ship thrummed around him as it moved through space. How long would it take to reach Ilum? 'You won't survive in Ilum,' Dirk declared.
'Only because you made me that badly,' Hal replied. Dirk turned to look at him. He looked at Hal insulted. 'You're the one that brought it up,' Hal said. Dirk stood up. Jane turned in her chair to look at him. 'I'm ok,' he said. Jane's expression said that she didn't believe him. Dirk looked at Hal. He nudged him with his foot. 'Come on,' he muttered. They walked away.
They arrived in Dirk's space. Dirk spent the hours making changes to Hal. There was materials around the ship that he and Roxy hoarded throughout the trip. Dirk took a break. He would see his Master again. He would drag him back with him, his Master wouldn't hurt him. More than he already did anyway. Roxy came by to give him food and drink. 'What are you doing?' they asked.
'Making changes to Hal. It's freezing in Ilum, he’ll break there,' Dirk replied absentmindedly.
'Making any progress?' Roxy asked.
'A little,' Dirk answered.
'I'll help!' Roxy said insistently. They sat down beside Dirk and went to work. They ate together. As the hours passed, Dirk slowly relaxed. Working with Roxy was sometimes frustrating but now, it felt good. It eased the pain even if only a little bit. They finished the work for the day. They didn't bother putting the parts away. Dirk laid down on his cot while Roxy lied down on theirs. There was silence. 'What're you gonna do when you find him?' Roxy whispered.
'Drag him back,' Dirk answered without hesitation, 'it doesn't matter if he'll come willingly or not. I'll drag him back.' Roxy reached out their hand. Dirk held it then gave it a squeeze. He stared at the ceiling in the dark. The ship whirred around him. Roxy slept but Dirk didn't follow, couldn't follow.
There was a knot in his gut and it didn't loosen enough to let him sleep. He breathed in then breathed out. Dirk did his breathing exercise then closed his eyes. He slipped into sleep.
Cold. It was cold. There was snow under his feet. He looked around. This place, this placed looked familiar. Up ahead, a figure was standing. He squinted. His eyes widened. He lurched forward then broke into a run. 'Master!' he shouted. He ran towards the figure as fast as he could.
He ran and ran and ran and ran. He stumbled but he managed to straighten. He kept running. He didn't know how long he had been running but the distance didn't shorten. The distance remained the same. He took a deep breath. 'Master!' he shouted as loud as he could. If it ruined his throat it didn't matter. 'Master!'
Dirk cracked his eyes open. He looked at the wall blearily. He set his hands on the floor and pushed himself up. Roxy was at the table, working already. He slowly stood up then walked to then. He sat down on the chair next to them. Roxy nudged him then nodded to the cup and bowl Hal was holding. Dirk nodded. He ate and drank then went back to work.
They managed to finish the changed to Hal in a few hours. More insulation. He would survive the cold of Ilum. Dirk laid his head on the table. Roxy rubbed his back. They stayed like that for several minutes. When Dirk could managed it, he sat up. They turned Hal and stowed the materials away.
Dirk went back to his cot and lied down. He shouldn't spend time just lying down, he knew that but he couldn't get up. He felt so tired. He just wanted his Master. Wanted his hand on his shoulder, wanted to hear his voice. He missed his padawan braid. He wanted to go back to six months ago. He didn't even want his knighting anymore. He didn't want to be a Jedi Knight anymore. Dirk slipped into uneasy slumber.
Somebody was shaking him. Dirk opened his eyes. Jane was above him, hand on his shoulder. 'We'll be there in a three hours,' she said quietly. Lightning ran down Dirk's spine. He quickly sat up. Jane looked at him. She didn't bother asking if he was okay. Dirk wasn't okay, he wasn't okay for these past six months. Jane handed him drink and food.
'Dirk,' she prompted. Dirk blinked. He looked down and took them. He ate mechanically then handed them back to Jane. Jane took them then walked away. Dirk stared down at his lap lost. He would see his Master again. After so long, he would see his Master again. Dirk lifted his eyes from his lap. He'd have his Master back. He will.
He stood up. He ran his hand through his hair. Dirk fetched clothes from his bag, picked up something warm. He went to the fresher. He took bath and, finally, set aside time to properly style his hair. He didn't feel like it. He wasn't smart enough or strong enough to be Jedi Knight. He wasn't good enough, how did he get that rank? What did the Council see in him? What did his Master see in him? His Master must be disappointed, there had to be something wrong with him, why else would his Master leave him?
Dirk looked at himself in the mirror. He looked tired. He felt tired. He didn't feel like it but maybe he could at least look like a proper Jedi Knight. He clipped his lightsaber to his belt. Dirk looked at the mirror. He was Jedi Knight Dirk Strider and he was bringing his wayward Master home. Dirk put on his cloak then walked out. He went to the cockpit, Hal following him.
He looked at his friends. 'When we reach Ilum, you should wear something that'll keep you warm,' he said.
Jake and Jane nodded. 'I will,' Roxy said.
Dirk went silent. His tongue felt heavy. 'Thank you,' he said, 'thank you for helping me with this.'
'We're friends, Dirk, of course I'll help,' Jane said.
'We wouldn't let you search for your Master all by yourself,' Jake said. Dirk's eyes burned. His hand came to cover them. He rabidly blinked the wetness away. He took a deep breath the lowered his hand. 'We'll be close to Ilum in an hour,' Jake said. Dirk nodded. He stepped back, pressing his back against the wall. Roxy went to change.
Hal was beside him. 'We'll drag him back,' he said. Dirk nodded. His expression was determined. The ship got out of hyperspace. The planet Ilum was in front of them. It was light blue and gray. Jane pressed auto-pilot then stood up to change. Jake changed seats, sitting down on the pilot's chair.
Ilum. A thought came to Dirk. Why was his Master in Ilum? There was Jedi Temple there. It was one fo the temples Dirk gave a message to in his search but they answered that they hadn't seen him.
When had his Master arrived? Why? They both had come here for his kyber crystal.Did his Master come here for a kyber crystal? Why would he want one. Dirk stilled. To sell or build a new a lightsaber. Why would his Master need a new lightsaber?
The breached Ilum's atmosphere. 'We're tracing the signal now,' Hal said. The ship hovered above the ground. Jane returned and Jake went to change. The ship hummed around them.
'We're here,' Jane announced.
'We found him,' Hal said. The ship landed on the ground, with a heavy thump and it shook. Dirk turned to Hal. The door slid open moments later. Dirk touched his lightsaber then pulled up the hood of his cloak.
'We'll be right here if you need us,' Jake said.
Dirk nodded to him stiffly. 'Affirmative,' Hal said.
They walked out of ship. It was cold but at least there was no wind. Snow crunched under their feet. Up ahead was a spaceship. Dirk set his mouth in a thin line. 'Tell me when you start to freeze. I'll drag you back to the ship.'
'I will,' Hal answered. They walked towards the ship. 'Dirk,' Hal said.
'I know,' Dirk muttered. As they got closer and closer, they saw a figure standing by the ship. They wore black but it wasn't a cloak. They stopped in front of the figure. 'Master,' Dirk said breathlessly.
'I told you not to come find me,' Karkat said.
'I couldn't do that,' Dirk said, 'I couldn't let you just disappear.'
'What happened,' Hal asked.
'I decided to leave,' Karkat said.
'You can't just leave,' Hal said.
'I can. I did,' Karkat pointed out. 'I'm not your Master anymore,' he said.
Dirk shook his head. 'No matter what happens, you'll always be my Master,' he answered.
Karkat snorted. He tilted their head and clipped his lightsaber then pulled back their hood as they turned around. The knot in Dirk's chest loosened. He looked at him hungrily. It really was his Master. He was dressed differently. His clothes were all black, no cloak or robe in sight. But he was still his Master. There was a lightsaber hilt in his hand and he looked tired.
Dirk frowned. He stepped forward. 'Are you ok? Are you hurt?' he asked urgently.
'I'm ok, Dirk,' Karkat answered evenly. Dirk realized with a jolt. It was his Master but at the same time it wasn't. His Master had always run hot, in temperature and in temperament. He was always ready with a scowl or a scolding. He was tense and jumpy too, even in the act of reading he felt angry and it felt like he moved to often. There was none of that now.
His Master looked at him. He looked tired but there was no tenseness in his shoulders, no annoyance in his eyes or frown on his face. His Master was calm, posture poised and face expressionless.
Dirk wanted to reach for his lightsaber but stomped down on it. His Master wouldn't hurt him. He shook his head. 'Come back,' he said loudly. He stepped forward. 'Come back with me,' Dirk pleaded.
'I want to,' Karkat admitted, Dirk's heart soared only plummet a second later, 'but I can't.'
'Why not?' Dirk demanded.
Karkat sighed. He really did look tired. Dirk's chest ached. 'I can't. I've fallen,' he declared. Dirk's mind went quiet. He stared at his Master. What?
'Fallen?' Hal muttered.
Dirk blinked snapped out of his daze. 'No,' he mumbled. He stumbled forward. He grabbed the front of his Master's shirt then pulled him closer. 'You didn't,' he said desperately. His Master had always grappled with the dark side, he had told him quietly many a nights. His Master wouldn't fall. 'You would never fall,' Dirk said.
'I did,' Karkat answered simply, his hand came up to rest on top Dirk's hand, 'I did.' Karkat lifted his shield, letting Dirk feel his side of the bond. Dirk's eyes widened. His Master's side felt different. It felt cold, colder than the air around them. Biting and it seethed. It was the dark side of the Force.
'No,' Dirk whispered. His breath hitched. 'No,' he sobbed.
'I can't go back, Dirk,' Karkat said gently.
'Why?' Dirk gasped. What pushed his Master over the edge?
'It doesn't matter,' Karkat replied. Dirk wanted to shout. It did matter, it mattered to him. 'It was always gonna happen. It was only a matter of time.'
'That doesn't matter,' Hal said, 'you're coming back with us.'
Karkat turned his head to look at Hal. 'You'll have to drag me,' he said.
'We will,' Hal said determined.
'Come back,' Dirk managed to say, 'come back.'
'I won't,' Karkat said. He let go of Dirk's hand then stepped back. Dirk couldn't do anything but let go. He stared at his Master. Karkat met his gaze. His bright red eyes were calm. His hand moved to rest on his lightsaber.
'Why did you come here?' Dirk managed to ask.
'It was time to make a new lightsaber, my lightsaber felt wrong to use,' Karkat answered.
'Why?' Dirk asked desperately, 'why did you leave?'
'You were knighted, it was a good time as any,' Karkat answered.
Dirk breathed in. It couldn’t be. 'Was it me?' he managed to ask. It wasn't. He didn't want it to be.
'Yes,' Karkat answered. Dirk didn't want to hear the rest of it. 'You were frustrating, you both were. Stubborn, angsty, arrogant,' Dirk should have known, he should have known. This was his fault after all. He wasn't smart enough or strong enough to be Jedi Knight. He wasn't good enough. What had his Master seen in him? 'Know-it-all and annoying but you, Dirk!' Karkat called out. He knew that look. Dirk was lost in his thoughts.
‘Dirk,' he said gently, 'you're a Jedi Knight.' Dirk stared at him. 'You'll be a good one,' Karkat said proudly, 'I know it. Take care of yourself.' He looked at Hal. 'Take care of yourself too. Take care of each other.'
Karkat stepped back. He noticed then that he had gotten taller than him but it seemed even more different now. It felt strange to look at him. He knew that his Master could fight, he had fought before he took him as padawan. But here and now his Master seemed smaller, more delicate.
Karkat looked at Dirk. His foolish and brilliant padawan and his droid. 'Go back, both of you,' Karkat said. He turned around then went back to his ship.
'Will you ever come back?' Hal asked.
'I don't know,' Karkat admitted, 'maybe when I'm ready.'
'You will always be my Master,' Dirk said.
'And you will always be my padawan. Goodbye.' The ship's door closed. Minutes later, the ship thrummed as its engine turned on. The wind kicked up. Dirk closed his eyes and turned away. The ship went up into the air and flew away.
Dirk didn't know how long he was standing there. He breathed out. His breath hitched. He brought his hands up. Dirk cried. 'Come on,' Hal said. Dirk didn't hear him. Hal wrapped his hand around Dirk's bicep. He pulled.
Dirk stumbled. Hal kept pulling and Dirk mindlessly went. Hal dragged him back to the ship. The ship's door opened. Jake, Roxy and Jane looked at them worriedly. The ship's door closed behind them. The ship was quiet, the only sound was Dirk's sobs.
'What happened?' Jake asked quietly.
'He's gone, Karkat's gone, he’s not coming back,' Hal answered. Dirk kept crying.

Mae West (born Mary Jane West; August 17, 1893 – November 22, 1980) was an American actress, singer, playwright, screenwriter, comedian and sex symbol whose entertainment career spanned seven decades. She was known for her lighthearted, bawdy double entendres and breezy sexual independence, and often used a husky contralto voice. She was active in vaudeville and on stage in New York City before moving to Los Angeles to pursue a career in the film industry.
West was one of the most controversial movie stars of her day; she encountered many problems, especially censorship. She once quipped, "I believe in censorship. I made a fortune out of it." She bucked the system by making comedy out of conventional mores, and the Depression-era audience admired her for it. When her film career ended, she wrote books and plays, and continued to perform in Las Vegas and the United Kingdom, on radio and television, and recorded rock 'n roll albums. In 1999, the American Film Institute posthumously voted West the 15th greatest female screen legend of classic American cinema.
Mary Jane West was born on August 17, 1893, in Brooklyn (either Greenpoint or Bushwick, before New York City was consolidated in 1898). She was delivered at home by an aunt who was a midwife. She was the eldest surviving child of John Patrick West and Mathilde "Tillie" (later Matilda) Delker (originally Doelger; later Americanized to "Delker" or "Dilker"). Tillie and her five siblings emigrated with their parents, Jakob (1835–1902) and Christiana (1838–1901; née Brüning) Doelger from Bavaria in 1886. West's parents married on January 18, 1889, in Brooklyn, to the pleasure of the groom's parents and the displeasure of the bride's parents and raised their children as Protestants, although John West was of mixed Catholic–Protestant descent.
West's father was a prizefighter known as "Battlin' Jack West" who later worked as a "special policeman" and later had his own private investigations agency. Her mother was a former corset and fashion model. Her paternal grandmother, Mary Jane (née Copley), for whom she was named, was of Irish Catholic descent and West's paternal grandfather, John Edwin West, was of English–Scots descent and a ship's rigger.
Her eldest sibling, Katie, died in infancy. Her other siblings were Mildred Katherine West, later known as Beverly (December 8, 1898 – March 12, 1982), and John Edwin West II (sometimes inaccurately called "John Edwin West, Jr."; February 11, 1900 – October 12, 1964). During her childhood, West's family moved to various parts of Woodhaven, as well as the Williamsburg and Greenpoint neighborhoods of Brooklyn. In Woodhaven, at Neir's Social Hall (which opened in 1829 and is still extant), West supposedly first performed professionally.
West was five when she first entertained a crowd at a church social, and she started appearing in amateur shows at the age of seven. She often won prizes at local talent contests. She began performing professionally in vaudeville in the Hal Clarendon Stock Company in 1907 at the age of 14. West first performed under the stage name "Baby Mae", and tried various personas, including a male impersonator.
She used the alias "Jane Mast" early in her career. Her trademark walk was said to have been inspired or influenced by female impersonators Bert Savoy and Julian Eltinge, who were famous during the Pansy Craze. Her first appearance in a Broadway show was in a 1911 revue A La Broadway put on by her former dancing teacher, Ned Wayburn. The show folded after eight performances, but at age 18, West was singled out and discovered by The New York Times. The Times reviewer wrote that a "girl named Mae West, hitherto unknown, pleased by her grotesquerie and snappy way of singing and dancing". West next appeared in a show called Vera Violetta, whose cast featured Al Jolson. In 1912, she appeared in the opening performance of A Winsome Widow as a "baby vamp" named La Petite Daffy.
She was encouraged as a performer by her mother, who, according to West, always thought that anything Mae did was fantastic. Other family members were less encouraging, including an aunt and her paternal grandmother. They are all reported as having disapproved of her career and her choices. In 1918, after exiting several high-profile revues, West finally got her break in the Shubert Brothers revue Sometime, opposite Ed Wynn. Her character Mayme danced the shimmy and her photograph appeared on an edition of the sheet music for the popular number "Ev'rybody Shimmies Now".
Eventually, she began writing her own risqué plays using the pen name Jane Mast. Her first starring role on Broadway was in a 1926 play she entitled Sex, which she wrote, produced, and directed. Although conservative critics panned the show, ticket sales were strong. The production did not go over well with city officials, who had received complaints from some religious groups, and the theater was raided, with West arrested along with the cast. She was taken to the Jefferson Market Court House, (now Jefferson Market Library), where she was prosecuted on morals charges, and on April 19, 1927, was sentenced to 10 days for "corrupting the morals of youth". Though West could have paid a fine and been let off, she chose the jail sentence for the publicity it would garner. While incarcerated on Welfare Island (now known as Roosevelt Island), she dined with the warden and his wife; she told reporters that she had worn her silk panties while serving time, in lieu of the "burlap" the other girls had to wear. West got great mileage from this jail stint. She served eight days with two days off for "good behavior". Media attention surrounding the incident enhanced her career, by crowning her the darling "bad girl" who "had climbed the ladder of success wrong by wrong".
Her next play, The Drag, dealt with homosexuality, and was what West called one of her "comedy-dramas of life". After a series of try-outs in Connecticut and New Jersey, West announced she would open the play in New York. However, The Drag never opened on Broadway due to efforts by the New York Society for the Suppression of Vice to ban any attempt by West to stage it. West explained, "The city fathers begged me not to bring the show to New York because they were not equipped to handle the commotion it would cause." West was an early supporter of the women's liberation movement, but said she was not a "burn your bra" type feminist. Since the 1920s, she was also an early supporter of gay rights, and publicly declared against police brutality that gay men experienced. She adopted a then "modern" psychological explanation that gay men were women's souls in men's bodies, and hitting a gay man was akin to hitting a woman. In her 1959 autobiography, Goodness Had Nothing to Do With It, West strongly objected to hypocrisy while, for surprising and unexplained reasons, also disparaging homosexuality: "In many ways homosexuality is a danger to the entire social system of Western civilization. Certainly a nation should be made aware of its presence — without moral mottoes — and its effects on children recruited to it in their innocence. I had no objection to it as a cult of jaded inverts... involved only with themselves. It was its secret, anti-social aspects I wanted to bring into the sun. As a private pressure group it could, and has, infected whole nations." This perspective, never elaborated upon by Mae West in other books or interviews seems inconsistent with the Mae West persona. In her 1975 book Sex, Health, and ESP, Mae West writes on page 43, "I believe that the world owes male and female homosexuals more understanding than we've given them. Live and let live is my philosophy on the subject, and I believe everybody has the right to do his or her own thing or somebody else's -- as long as they do it all in private!"
West continued to write plays, including The Wicked Age, Pleasure Man and The Constant Sinner. Her productions aroused controversy, which ensured that she stayed in the news, which also often resulted in packed houses at her performances. Her 1928 play, Diamond Lil, about a racy, easygoing, and ultimately very smart lady of the 1890s, became a Broadway hit and cemented West's image in the public's eye. This show had an enduring popularity and West successfully revived it many times throughout the course of her career. With Diamond Lil being a hit show, Hollywood naturally came courting.
In 1932, West was offered a contract by Paramount Pictures despite being close to 40. This was an unusually late age to begin a film career, especially for women, but she was not playing an ingénue. She nonetheless managed to keep her age ambiguous for some time. She made her film debut in Night After Night (1932) starring George Raft, who suggested West for the role. At first she did not like her small role in Night After Night, but was appeased when she was allowed to rewrite her scenes.[45] In West's first scene, a hat-check girl exclaims, "Goodness, what beautiful diamonds", and West replies, "Goodness had nothing to do with it, dearie." Reflecting on the overall result of her rewritten scenes, Raft is said to have remarked, "She stole everything but the cameras."
She brought her Diamond Lil character, now renamed "Lady Lou", to the screen in She Done Him Wrong (1933). The film was one of Cary Grant's first major roles, which boosted his career. West claimed she spotted Grant at the studio and insisted that he be cast as the male lead. She claimed to have told a Paramount director, "If he can talk, I'll take him!". The film was a box office hit and earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture. The success of the film saved Paramount from bankruptcy, grossing over $2 million, the equivalent of $140 million today. Paramount recognizes that debt of gratitude today, with a building on the lot named after West.
Her next release, I'm No Angel (1933), teamed her with Grant again. I'm No Angel was also a box office hit and was the most successful of her entire film career. In the months that followed the release of this film, reference to West could be found almost anywhere, from the song lyrics of Cole Porter, to a Works Progress Administration (WPA) mural of San Francisco's newly built Coit Tower, to She Done Him Right, a Betty Boop cartoon, to "My Dress Hangs There", a painting by Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. Kahlo's husband, Diego Rivera, paid his own tribute: "West is the most wonderful machine for living I have ever known – unfortunately on the screen only." To F. Scott Fitzgerald, West was especially unique: "The only Hollywood actress with both an ironic edge and a comic spark." As Variety put it, "Mae West's films have made her the biggest conversation-provoker, free-space grabber, and all-around box office bet in the country. She's as hot an issue as Hitler."
By 1933, West was one of the largest box office draws in the United States and, by 1935, West was also the highest paid woman and the second-highest paid person in the United States (after William Randolph Hearst). Hearst invited West to San Simeon, California. "I could'a married him", West explained, "but I got no time for parties. I don't like those big crowds." On July 1, 1934, the censorship of the film Production Code began to be seriously and meticulously enforced, and West's scripts were heavily edited. She would intentionally place extremely risqué lines in her scripts, knowing they would be cut by the censors. She hoped they would then not object as much to her other less suggestive lines. Her next film was Belle of the Nineties (1934). The original title, It Ain't No Sin, was changed due to the censors' objections. Despite Paramount's early objections regarding costs, West insisted the studio to hire Duke Ellington and his orchestra to accompany her in the film's musical numbers. Their collaboration was a success; the classic "My Old Flame" (recorded by Duke Ellington) was introduced in this film. Her next film, Goin' to Town (1935), received mixed reviews, as censorship continued to take its toll in eroding West's best lines.
Her following effort, Klondike Annie (1936) dealt, as best it could given the heavy censorship, with religion and hypocrisy. Some critics called the film her magnum opus, but not everyone felt the same way. Press baron and film mogul William Randolph Hearst, ostensibly offended by an off-handed remark West made about his mistress, Marion Davies, sent a private memo to all his editors stating, "That Mae West picture Klondike Annie is a filthy picture... We should have editorials roasting that picture, Mae West, and Paramount... DO NOT ACCEPT ANY ADVERTISING OF THIS PICTURE." At one point, Hearst asked aloud, "Isn't it time Congress did something about the Mae West menace?" Paramount executives felt they had to tone down the West characterization or face further recrimination. This may be surprising by today's standards, as West's films contained no nudity, no profanity, and very little violence. Though raised in an era when women held second-place roles in society, West portrayed confident women who were not afraid to use their sexual wiles to get what they wanted. "I was the first liberated woman, you know. No guy was going to get the best of me. That's what I wrote all my scripts about."
Around the same time, West played opposite Randolph Scott in Go West, Young Man (1936). In this film, she adapted Lawrence Riley's Broadway hit Personal Appearance into a screenplay. Directed by Henry Hathaway, Go West, Young Man is considered one of West's weaker films of the era, due to the censor's cuts.
West next starred in Every Day's a Holiday (1937) for Paramount before their association came to an end. Again, due to censor cuts, the film performed below its goal. Censorship had made West's sexually suggestive brand of humor impossible for the studios to distribute. West, along with other stellar performers, was put on a list of actors called "Box Office Poison" by Harry Brandt on behalf of the Independent Theatre Owners Association. Others on the list were Greta Garbo, Joan Crawford, Marlene Dietrich, Fred Astaire, Dolores del Río, Katharine Hepburn and Kay Francis. The attack was published as a paid advertisement in The Hollywood Reporter, and was taken seriously by the fearful studio executives. The association argued that these stars' high salaries and extreme public popularity did not affect their ticket sales, thus hurt the exhibitors. This did not stop producer David O. Selznick, who next offered West the role of the sage madam, Belle Watling, the only woman ever to truly understand Rhett Butler, in Gone with the Wind, after Tallulah Bankhead turned him down. West also turned down the part, claiming that as it was, it was too small for an established star, and that she would need to rewrite her lines to suit her own persona. The role eventually went to Ona Munson.
In 1939, Universal Studios approached West to star in a film opposite W. C. Fields. The studio was eager to duplicate the success of Destry Rides Again starring Marlene Dietrich and James Stewart, with a comic vehicle starring West and Fields. Having left Paramount 18 months earlier and looking for a new film, West accepted the role of Flower Belle Lee in the film My Little Chickadee (1940). Despite the stars' intense mutual dislike, Fields's very real drinking problems and fights over the screenplay, My Little Chickadee was a box office hit, outgrossing Fields's previous film, You Can't Cheat an Honest Man (1939) and the later The Bank Dick (1940). Despite this, religious leaders condemned West as a negative role model, taking offense at lines such as "Between two evils, I like to pick the one I haven't tried before" and "Is that a gun in your pocket, or are you just glad to see me?"
West's next film was Columbia's The Heat's On (1943). She initially did not want to do the film, but after actor, director and friend Gregory Ratoff (producer Max Fabian in All About Eve) pleaded with her and claimed he would go bankrupt if she could not help, West relented as a personal favor. Censors by now, though, had curtailed the sexual burlesque of the West characterization. The studio had orders to raise the neck lines and clean up the double entendres. This was the only film for which West was virtually not allowed to write her own dialogue and, as a result, the film suffered.
Perhaps the most critical challenge facing West in her career was censorship of her dialogue. As on Broadway a decade before, by the mid-1930s, her risqué and ribald dialogue could no longer be allowed to pass. The Heat's On opened to poor reviews and weak performance at the box office. West was so distraught after the experience and by her years of struggling with the strict Hays censorship office, that she would not attempt another film role for the next quarter-century. Instead, West pursued a successful and record-breaking career in top nightclubs, Las Vegas, nationally in theater and on Broadway, where she was allowed, even welcomed, to be herself.
After appearing in The Heat's On in 1943, West returned to a very active career on stage and in swank clubs. Among her popular new stage performances was the title role in Catherine Was Great (1944) on Broadway, in which she penned a spoof on the story of Catherine the Great of Russia, surrounding herself with an "imperial guard" of tall, muscular young actors. The play was produced by theater and film impresario Mike Todd (Around The World in 80 Days) and ran for 191 performances and then went on tour.
When Mae West revived her 1928 play Diamond Lil, bringing it back to Broadway in 1949, The New York Times labeled her an "American Institution – as beloved and indestructible as Donald Duck. Like Chinatown, and Grant's Tomb, Mae West should be seen at least once." In the 1950s, West starred in her own Las Vegas stage show at the newly opened Sahara Hotel, singing while surrounded by bodybuilders. The show stood Las Vegas on its head. "Men come to see me, but I also give the women something to see: wall to wall men!" West explained. Jayne Mansfield met and later married one of West's muscle men, a former Mr. Universe, Mickey Hargitay.
When casting about for the role of Norma Desmond for the 1950 film Sunset Boulevard, Billy Wilder offered West the role. Still smarting from the censorship debacle of The Heat's On, and the constraints placed on her characterization, she declined. The theme of the Wilder film, she noted, was pure pathos, while her brand of comedy was always "about uplifting the audience". Mae West had a unique comic character that was timeless, in the same way Charlie Chaplin did. After Mary Pickford also declined the role, Gloria Swanson was cast.
In subsequent years, West was offered the role of Vera Simpson, opposite Marlon Brando, in the 1957 film adaptation of Pal Joey, which she turned down, with the role going to Rita Hayworth. In 1964, West was offered a leading role in Roustabout, starring Elvis Presley. She turned the role down, and Barbara Stanwyck was cast in her place. West was also approached for roles in Frederico Fellini's Juliet of the Spirits and Satyricon, but rejected both offers.
In 1958, West appeared at the live televised Academy Awards and performed the song "Baby, It's Cold Outside" with Rock Hudson, which brought a standing ovation. In 1959, she released an autobiography, Goodness Had Nothing to Do With It, which became a best seller and was reprinted with a new chapter in 1970. West guest-starred on television, including The Dean Martin Show in 1959 and The Red Skelton Show in 1960, to promote her autobiography, and a lengthy interview on Person to Person with Charles Collingwood, which was censored by CBS in 1959, and never aired. CBS executives felt members of the television audience were not ready to see a nude marble statue of West, which rested on her piano. In 1964, she made a guest appearance on the sitcom Mister Ed. Much later, in 1976, she was interviewed by Dick Cavett and sang two songs on his "Back Lot U.S.A." special on CBS.
West's recording career started in the early 1930s with releases of her film songs on shellac 78 rpm records. Most of her film songs were released as 78s, as well as sheet music. In 1955, she recorded her first album, The Fabulous Mae West. In 1965, she recorded two songs, "Am I Too Young" and "He's Good For Me", for a 45 rpm record released by Plaza Records. She recorded several tongue-in-cheek songs, including "Santa, Come Up to See Me", on the album Wild Christmas, which was released in 1966 and reissued as Mae in December in 1980. Demonstrating her willingness to keep in touch with the contemporary scene, in 1966 she recorded Way Out West, the first of her two rock-and-roll albums. The second, released in 1972 on MGM Records and titled Great Balls of Fire, covered songs by The Doors, among others, and had songs written for West by English songwriter-producer Ian Whitcomb.
After a 27-year absence from motion pictures, West appeared as Leticia Van Allen in Gore Vidal's Myra Breckinridge (1970) with Raquel Welch, Rex Reed, Farrah Fawcett, and Tom Selleck in a small part. The movie was intended to be deliberately campy sex change comedy, but had serious production problems, resulting in a botched film that was both a box-office and critical failure. Author Vidal, at great odds with inexperienced and self-styled "art film" director Michael Sarne, later called the film "an awful joke". Though Mae West was given star billing to attract ticket buyers, her scenes were truncated by the inexperienced film editor, and her songs were filmed as though they were merely side acts. Mae West's counterculture appeal (she was dubbed "the queen of camp"), included the young and hip, and by 1971, the student body of University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) voted Mae West "Woman of the Century" in honor of her relevance as a pioneering advocate of sexual frankness and courageous crusader against censorship.
In 1975, West released her book Sex, Health, and ESP (William Allen & Sons, publisher), and Pleasure Man (Dell publishers) based on her 1928 play of the same name. Her autobiography, Goodness Had Nothing to Do with It, was also updated and republished in the 1970s.
Mae West was a shrewd investor, produced her own stage acts, and invested her money in large tracts of land in Van Nuys, a thriving suburb of Los Angeles. With her considerable fortune, she could afford to do as she liked. In 1976, she appeared on Back Lot U.S.A. on CBS, where she was interviewed by Dick Cavett and sang "Frankie and Johnny" along with "After You've Gone." That same year, she began work on her final film, Sextette (1978). Adapted from a 1959 script written by West, the film's daily revisions and production disagreements hampered production from the beginning. Due to the near-endless last-minute script changes and tiring production schedule, West agreed to have her lines signaled to her through a speaker concealed in her hair piece. Despite the daily problems, West was, according to Sextette director Ken Hughes, determined to see the film through. At 84, her now-failing eyesight made navigating around the set difficult, but she made it through the filming, a tribute to her self-confidence, remarkable endurance, and stature as a self-created star 67 years after her Broadway debut in 1911 at the age of 18. Time magazine wrote an article on the indomitable star entitled "At 84, Mae West Is Still Mae West".
Upon its release, Sextette was not a critical or commercial success, but has a diverse cast. The cast included some of West's first co-stars such as George Raft (Night After Night, 1932), silver screen stars such as Walter Pidgeon and Tony Curtis, and more contemporary pop stars such as The Beatles' Ringo Starr and Alice Cooper, and television favorites such as Dom DeLuise and gossip queen Rona Barrett. It also included cameos of some of her musclemen from her 1950s Las Vegas show, such as the still remarkably fit Reg Lewis. Sextette also reunited Mae West with Edith Head, her costume designer from 1933 in She Done Him Wrong.
West was married on April 11, 1911 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Frank Szatkus (1892–1966), whose stage name was Frank Wallace, a fellow vaudevillian whom she met in 1909. She was 17. She kept the marriage a secret, but a filing clerk discovered the marriage certificate in 1935 and alerted the press. The clerk also uncovered an affidavit in which she had declared herself married, made during the Sex trial in 1927.
In August 1913, she met Guido Deiro (1886–1950), an Italian-born vaudeville headliner and star of the piano-accordion. Her affair, and possible 1914 marriage to him, as alleged by Diero's son Guido Roberto Deiro in his 2019 book Mae West and The Count, went "very deep, hittin' on all the emotions". West later said, "Marriage is a great institution. I'm not ready for an institution yet."
In 1916, when she was a vaudeville actress, West had a relationship with James Timony (1884–1954), an attorney nine years her senior. Timony was also her manager. By the time that she was an established movie actress in the mid-1930s, they were no longer a couple. West and Timony remained extremely close, living in the same building, working together, and providing support for each other until Timony's death in 1954.
West remained close to her family throughout her life and was devastated by her mother's death in 1930. In 1930, she moved to Hollywood and into the penthouse at The Ravenswood apartment building where she lived until her death in 1980. Her sister, brother, and father followed her to Hollywood where she provided them with nearby homes, jobs, and sometimes financial support. Among her boyfriends was boxing champion William Jones, nicknamed Gorilla Jones (1906–1982). The management at her Ravenswood apartment building barred the African American boxer from entering the premises; West solved the problem by buying the building and lifting the ban.
She became romantically involved at age 61 with Chester Rybinski (1923–1999), one of the muscle men in her Las Vegas stage show – a wrestler, former Mr. California, and former merchant sailor. He was 30 years younger than she, and later changed his name to Paul Novak. He moved in with her, and their romance continued until her death in 1980 at age 87. Novak once commented, "I believe I was put on this Earth to take care of Mae West." West was a Presbyterian.
In August 1980, West tripped while getting out of bed. After the fall she was unable to speak and was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles, where tests revealed that she had suffered a stroke. She died on November 22, 1980, at the age of 87.
A private service was held at the church in Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills, on November 25, 1980; (the church is a replica of Boston's Old North Church.) Bishop Andre Penachio, a friend, officiated at the entombment in the family mausoleum at Cypress Hills Abbey, Brooklyn, purchased in 1930 when her mother died. Her father and brother were also entombed there before her, and her younger sister, Beverly, was laid to rest in the last of the five crypts less than 18 months after West's death.
For her contribution to the film industry, Mae West has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 1560 Vine Street in Hollywood. For her contributions as a stage actor in the theater world, she has been inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame. On June 25, 2019, The New York Times Magazine listed Mae West among hundreds of artists whose material was destroyed in the 2008 Universal fire.

Happy New Year 2021
Welcoming New Year:
Read my letter from last year, repost the highlight moments of 2020, and write letter for my-next-year-me.
I could say that 2020 might be an unique year. When people say that so many tears and pains in 2020, I felt it so. But, I think, we can learn so many lesson in 2020. Even, it’s a bit hard than last year, for me. At least, we’ve tried.
Thank God. Eventho’ my night was full of fears and tears, at least, there’s you in my heart. I fell down, and I tried to get up. Repeatedly.
Thank God, You save me from  all of the bad things. You save me. I apologized that I just realized. You save me.
January. I felt so many bad emotions from this month. I needed to heal my self, my soul. Overwhelmed. Hurt and broken. Numb. Numb. Numb. I felt that I never live on this month. And I hate so many things. Like I should to fight my day, every single time. It was so hard.
February. I tried to heal, everytime I could, and everytime i need. Since, I was sick for few days at the hospital in 2019, I was broken. I stayed at home for some weeks or months. I didn’t have a desire or something like that, to hang out with my friends or anything else. I just want to stay at home, at my room, alone, just me and myself. Broken: mentally, physically, cognitively, my work, partnership, self-blaming, regret, low self-confident, hopeless, low self-esteem. Cried everyday. But, I thank to my friends that support me to get up again. They always remind me to cheer up again. And I pushed myself to realized and back to normal. I tried to meet my friends again, hang out, spent my day with them. I tried to tidy up my assignment. I tried to fix my heart and my mind. And I felt better. Thank you.
March. Welcome to Corona! (Ini tuh yaa sibuk sesibuk sibuknya ngurusin kerjaan, perubahan jam kerja, jadwal WFH, penyesuaian aturan pemerintah. Ewh riweh! Mulai ngurusin tes covid karyawan, koordinasi sana-sini.)
I thank to my friend, aries buddy. We went to Blok M, after office. Kashiwa: place that never be failed. We talked, we shared, what we felt. And we walked arround Blok M, we laughed so loud, we pretended like we walked in Japan’s street food, we were sooo happy like no one see us. We decided to spent our night at coffee shop (M-Bloc) and we sang a song, we shared everything, we laughed, then we cried, then we debated the idea that we had. Conversation: our relationship. Of course.
On this month, March 15th, I decided to end my relationship. I thought it was toxic. And I thought that it would be better like this. I tried to forgive myself, forgive him, and accept the condition, the situation. Healing. Move on. For the umteenth times I tried to end it, but this one, I felt that it would be the last. I didn’t feel sad, regret, or any else like I felt before. I didn’t try to moving forward or forget him so hard. I felt like my life so normal, I enjoyed. It was peaceful, feel free, and happy. Even, my friends were sad to know that I end my relationship. I dont know why. ahaha. But I thank to all of you, for your support :) From that moment, my day was begin again. My 2020 start from March. There’s no January and February hahaha.
Thank you, for your kindness. Thank you for accept my decision. Thank you for make me feel happy. Thank you for all the memories. I’m sorry, if I ever hurt you. Again, Thank you.
April. My Birthday! The saddest birthday in my life that i had: Corona, after break up, no friends, no party, no meet up, no cakes, and still working at office. hahaha.
Birthday: Finally you talked to me, you told everything that I never know before. I cried. I felt so happy that you want to tell me. But, at some point, it was hurt to know the truth. You told me that you hate me for few months. That’s why we didn’t talked. And I felt it so. We told what we liked, unliked, wanted, unwanted. At least, I knew what you felt and what you thought about me. Thank you for being honest.
Ramadhan. Learned to feel the peacefull of your heart. Thank God, I met my Ramadhan in this year. (Bulan puasa paling lucu sih. Karena gabisa bukber atau pun pergi-pergi, jadinya tiap hari selalu telfonan, video call, zooming dan main gartic tiap hari, ketawaaaa terus sama mereka, sayang banget. Main gartic sampe pagi, zooming sampe sahur, ada aja yang dibahas, ketawa lagi, curhat lagi. malah jadi “ngebacain” masa lalu masing-masing jaman SMP haha. macam truth or dare yaaa bund. Mulai rajin nonton netflix, tiap hari netflix terus. main the sims udah abis berapa juta cuma buat the sims beli beli barang atau beli uang the sims. parah sih. Karena corona, semua kegiatan jadi virtual, termasuk ikut kelas-kelas online, jadi sering ikut webinar. seru banget. jadi kangen banget sama semuanyaa.)
May. Virtual Eid.
June. I needed to heal my self. So I took some healing class. And I got the pattern. For 25 years in life, I never trip alone to somewhere. But, I did. It was amazing. I want to do it again. again and again. It was fun and free.
July. I started to meet my friends again: BL, karaoke, makan, ngobrol banyak hal, ketawaaa terus, seneng terus.
August. The happiest day in my 2020. Trip to Bandung: Ranca Bali. (Hari paling puas ketawa, paling nyenengin, selalu sama mereka, cinta banget, sayang banget ya allah.
Thank you my lovely friends, you always know how to make me happy. Thank you for coming to my life.
You know, when brokenhearted, feeling blue, or had a gloomy day, I loved to go to the mountain. Trekking. And also, healing.  Along the way, I spelled the words to myself, gave a positive affirmation, I forgave my self. Thank you the Universe.
On August, also, I thank to you. Thank you for coming to my life unexpectedly. You showed who you really are. You gave your love wholeheartedly. I could feel it. But, you know, the quite sadness is, when you couldn’t give your own love equal as same as he gave to you. I’m so sorry. Sorry if I’ve disappointed you. Thank you for being a good friend.
September. I never thought that I could fall in love with someone again, as same as I love him. Feeling, that came from my deepest heart. Purely. Sincerly. Wholeheartedly. Thank you for someone who has came to revive my feelings that have died before. You light up my room. Thank you, i’ve been through it all. Thank you for bringing myself back again. Thank you for telling me everything without hesitation. Thank you for trusting me enough. Thank you for being honest to me. Thank you for all the attention and warmth that has been given starting from the small things. Thank you for teaching me to care and be brave. Thank you for teaching me to be better.
October. That day. I knew, I was wrong. I apologized to all. All I want is stay with my family. - always be there with them. - hug them all day long. - sleep with my mom, and hug her tightly. I’m sorry, I’ve disappointed you. For the first time, staycation with them in 2020.
November. Celebrating my mom’s birthday with all of my family. So happy. Blessed.
Nov, 6th. Thank you for the conversation, your gaze, your story. Comfortable. I never thought that you would be honest and trust me enough, to tell everything that I called, privacy. Because, I couldn’t do like you do. And finally we shared our story to each other. Emphaty: you know, I just cried, you must have felt so sad and hurt at that time. If I were there, near you at that time, I wanted to hug you tightly for so long, and said, “It’s okay lil’ boy, it’s okay to cry and feel what you really feel”. Thank you for waiting for me. I loved to see you when you sang a song in the car, then we sang together, then we laughed. You accompany me, you take care of me. You were still there, to see me, to make sure that I leave safely. After that, you could go. Thank you for trying to make me fall for you. Now, I still think about that, how come I can fall in love with someone like you. I never thought that I could be in love with you.
When trust must be broken. Is there trust left in your heart? I dont know what happend. Just Thanks. Thank you for, hm everything. Good or bad. There’s a lesson we can learn. You make me feel better, and I still learn to be a good girl, to be better. It was hurt, but I learned. Thank you, a good boy!
Desember. Apparently, it’s not as easy as I thought. Negative emotion. Sadness. Hurt. Enveloped the end of this year. But, lessons learned anyway. Thank God, Thank you 2020.
2021, please be nice :) I need the beach very muchhhh! please take me there!

cloud nine
/kloud/ /nīn/
1. a state of perfect happiness (usually in the phrase on cloud nine).
2. a state of total euphoria
I can probably guarantee no one will listen to this week’s playlist. You may be asking why I would make a playlist knowing in advance it does not appeal to most people, and you best believe I have an answer.
I started listening to jazz in February of 2017 when I needed music that was unlike anything else I was currently listening to. At that time, I really hated music. If you know me, then you know that is a monumental problem to have because music has been a very important part of my life since I was little and my Grandma Melba would let me play on her piano while she watched us during the day.
Everything I was listening to, prior to or around February, was my absolute favorite, and I knew he was listening to a lot of that same stuff as well. The thought of that was hard for me to accept. Everything reminded me of him, and I probably never crossed his mind. You see, we weren’t talking anymore at that time. He faded again, so I faded, I found an old distraction, and I quickly let that die again too. That was the last distraction I had in my life. I have no clue what the fuck he was doing during that time. I never really know what he’s doing or thinking. It doesn’t matter anymore though.
I know it sounds crazy, but bonding with someone over music is a huge deal for me. It can be a problem for me. When they decide to leave guess who’s stuck with memories and a soundtrack to relive every emotion? Me. Guess who has a history of having complications managing those occasionally overwhelming emotions? Me.
In my head, it doesn’t matter who you are, if I attach you to a song or artist, you’re most likely there for life. The only way it’s tolerable is if the thought of you when the song comes on doesn’t make me upset. Some of my favorite music accidentally gets tainted when I let other people know about it. So, if I don’t play music around you or share music with you, it’s because I can’t. I just can’t.
At that time in February I needed music with a clean history. That’s what Frank Sinatra did for me. That’s what jazz did for me. It took me mentally away from where I was when I needed a break. It took me to Cloud 9.
The description, “I once wanted to give you My Universe, but hun, I've got to let you go. Let me live on Cloud 9 alone now xx.,” stems from two playlists that have the ability to emotionally destroy me or put me in the best mood.
“My Universe” was a playlist I made as a response to the playlist he made for me titled “xx.” I came up with the name for my playlist because of a conversation he and I had. I think it was after he’d already sent me his playlist and I was telling him he needed to do one radio show because his selection and flow was ridiculously amazing. (I was the radio station manager at that time.) I think I asked what would it take for me to get him to do it and he said something like the “the universe.” In my dumb brain I decided I could never give him the universe, but I would willingly give him every ounce of My Universe. Too deep? Yuh, welcome to my life.
In all honesty, his playlist is still much better than mine haha, but mine also has a lot of complexity and meaning that has never been discussed with really anyone including him—especially the last track.
Those two playlists were created in January of 2017, and they really fucked me up. To give a brief example, the title “xx.” comes from something very personal in my life. Whether he was aware of it or not, or you’re aware of it or not, when I was seventeen years old I was suicidal for the first time. I used to write letters to get the shit in my brain out. Writing was my salvation. Writing is still very much my salvation. I used to sign each letter with an xx. That xx. was me signing my heart on that paper. It has a bunch of other meaning to me as well, but these days when I sign something xx., in short, it means this is from my heart.
So when he made me a playlist that took him four hours to make, seven hours to listen to, and I let that playlist be the soundtrack to my vacation abroad, I got even more attached to those songs, artists, and flow. More than I already was prior to the playlist’s conception. I took that effort of his as a gesture. Time has proved it was very much not a gesture. It was just something for him to do.
When I got back, things felt different, and by February things were different. By March, we actually had a couple good weeks and album releases together. April was bad. April was real bad…May had a brief beam of light. June got better. July felt like sunshine. August felt like a rainbow. September felt like a shooting star. Now, October feels like a foggy morning in The Bay. I’m okay though. I won’t let myself get April 2017 bad again.

Wow, I did not purposefully mean to say all of that stuff. Imma end that intense lil chat now. :)
Song Explanations:
I am convinced Ella and Louis are one of the greatest duet partners to have ever existed.
Frank’s Fly Me to the Moon fills my entire body with joy. To fully get the proper experience for this song you must ride windows down, sunroof open, music loud, and the night sky has to be on full display. Also, you have to sing at the top of your lungs. Issa must bb. Haha
In general, the sounds from the piano and trumpet players during that period really calm me down. I am eternally grateful for jazz music. Also, my life feels like some type of fancy movie whenever I listen to jazz. *insert shoulder shrugging emoji*
Love,
-E xx.
p.s. If you do listen to this playlist, I hope it makes you feel out of this world, like it does for me. xx.

From the team behind THE SHERIFF OF BABYLON and the Hugo Award-nominated writer of Vision comes a unique new take on one of Jack Kirby’s most beloved New Gods. Scott Free is the greatest escape artist that ever lived. So great that he escaped Granny Goodness’ gruesome orphanage and the dangers of Apokolips to travel across galaxies and set up a new life on Earth with his wife, the former female fury known as Big Barda. Using the stage alter ego of Mister Miracle, he has made a career for himself showing off his acrobatic escape techniques. He even caught the attention of the Justice League, which counted him among its ranks. You might say Scott Free has everything…so why isn’t it enough? Mister Miracle has mastered every illusion, achieved every stunt, pulled off every trick – except one. He has never escaped death. Is it even possible? Our hero is going to have to kill himself if he wants to find out. Written by Tom King (BATMAN) and illustrated by Mitch Gerads (The Punisher), this is a MISTER MIRACLE unlike any you’ve read before.
FLASH #28 $2.99
Joshua Williamson (A) Carmine Giandomenico (CA) Howard Porter
‘NEGATIVE’ part one! It’s a bleak new day as the citizens of Central City meet Negative-Flash! He’s got a terrible attitude and volatile powers that leave a wake of destruction wherever he goes. Exactly the kind of person you’d want The Flash to put behind bars. There’s just one problem: he is The Flash! Can Barry Allen get his new powers under control before they kill him?
NEWSBOY LEGION & BOY COMMANDOS SPECIAL #1 $4.99
  Howard Chaykin (A/CA) Howard Chaykin
Jack Kirby’s two wartime kid gangs share their first adventure together in a novel-length tale written and illustrated by Howard Chaykin! When the Boy Commandos arrive in New York on the trail of a secret Axis agent, they’re greeted as turf invaders by the crime-fighting Newsboys! Can these kids put aside their rivalry and join forces to protect the home front? Also features a Kirby reprint!

Majlis Khatam Al-quran 2017
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I swear, in the pursuit of being a hafizah, the journey was not that easy. only god knows how many times the world had shut me down especially during those turbulent times. as someone who is not being exposed to religious stuffs like this since I was young, it was quite hard for me to grow attuned to the new environment. with spikes and spines and nails along the way, you have to be mentally and spiritually prepared. I, myself, can’t believe this is the path that I’m taking, the last route I resorted to that I had never have thought of for my post-upsr life. alhamdulillah, despite all the upheavals I have been put through, on 3 March 2017, I successfully proved everyone that I could, too, memorize the whole holy Quran. thanks to my asatizah, ustaz fakhrullah and ustazah khadijah for staying with me till the end.
however, bear in mind, as being said by Dr. Abdul Mun’im, “to memorize alquran is one thing, to keep the memorization remains is another whole different thing.”
similarly, it is damn easy to parrot every single word written in it, but not that easy to imbue, instill and reflect what the Quran has taught us irl. nevertheless, alhamdulillah ala kulli hal, that we at least have passed this one stage. semoga kita semua rajin murajaah alquran dan mengamalkannya.
last but not least, a lil bit of advice to everyone out there, please don’t romanticize and normalize sins even though we are all sinners. to society, please don’t expect too much from us. we are humans too, like anyone else in this world, we make mistakes.
