sweeter than ice cream
✩ mark x reader (ft. jaehyun + johnny) | fluff | 2k
→ summary: mark’s got a crush on the new local ice cream vendor. when he finally musters up the courage to order ice cream for himself, he messes up and doesn’t grab it by the cone.  → warnings: dripping with fluff, one swear word, mark’s a (loveable) dork/dumbass and talks to himself → prompt: You’re an employee and I have a crush on you so when you hand me the soft serve  ice cream I accidentally grab it by the ice cream instead of the cone

Mark, Jaehyun, and Johnny opt to grab ice cream after dinner, like they often did on hot days after busy schedules. All is well as the three boys laugh down the street without a care in the world, until Mark notices the new ice cream vendor attending the usual stand.
He can only see the side of your face and a glimpse of your smile that you flash at the departing customer leaving the cart.
And that’s all it takes for him to stop in his tracks.
Jaehyun and Johnny are practically at the cart when they take heed at the awestruck one left behind.
“Dude, what do you want?” Johnny calls down the street, unfazed by Mark’s bizarre behaviour.
His eyes are still fixated on you. It takes a moment for him to realize he isn’t breathing; he gasps sharply in response.
“I’ll, uh,” Mark quickly glances over at Johnny before turning back to you, but now he realizes you’re staring at him. In your head, you casually label him as the boy down the block, who is technically holding the line because the two guys at the front of the line are waiting for him.
“I’m good actually! I’ll see you guys at home!” he waves and turns around faster than he can even think, leaving the boys to get ice cream by themselves. Johnny and Jaehyun face each other with furrowed eyebrows.
“Sorry about that. Our friend is a little… weird,” Jaehyun apologizes to you and you shake your head with giggle.
“No worries,” you brush it off as if nothing happened, give them their orders, and resume your shift for the night.
But you can’t help but be a little curious about their weird, yet endearing, friend.
Tumblr media
The next time the trio visits you, your stand is on the other end of the block and your shift is in the middle of the day.
The boys have come back earlier from their schedules than expected and are on their way back to their dorm when Mark freezes again in your presence, especially since you are right in front of him this time. He smiles unknowingly to himself, noting how you shine even more in daylight.
All the noise surrounding him disappears; his heart’s pounding is deafening in his ears.
This time, since he’s in front of them, Jaehyun and Johnny catch on fast when Mark stops walking because they crash into him. The latter of the two grunts in pain.
“Why did you stop-” the tallest of the three glances up and sees you directly ahead. The lightbulb goes off, thus Johnny spins Mark around and huddles with him and Jaehyun.
Wary of how close you are, Johnny spits in a hush, “Mark, do you have a crush on the new ice cream girl?”
“No, I do not have a crush on the new ice cream girl!” the youngest replies between gritted teeth, fearful that you can hear everything that is happening.
“Then why did you stop?!” Johnny mocks his body language, rebutting with gritted teeth.
“Because I…” Pausing for a moment, he rolls his eyes to ponder a good excuse.
“Because you think the new ice cream girl is cute?” Jaehyun interrupts with the truth.
Mark inhales for a moment, ready to refute, but then sighs heavily, defeated. He grumbles, “Okay, maybe I think she’s sorta cute...”
“Then talk to her! You get to have ice cream and get to talk to a cute girl. Your two favourite things in the world.”
“They are not my two-”
“Excuse me.”
All three of them look at each other with wide eyes prior to turning to face the sweet voice that belongs to you as you call them from a few steps away.
“Sorry to interrupt, boys, but are you guys going to order anything? There’s a small line forming behind you,” you gesture shyly with your index finger.
Guiltily, they see how everyone behind them is gawking at them. Without thought, they decide to step closer to the front of your cart, with Mark hovering behind the two taller figures.
He tries to scan the menu to decide on a flavour, but also wants to steal a glance at you. At the same time, he doesn’t want to steal a glance at you because he knows that he’s going to end up a sadder mess worse than fallen ice cream if you two make eye contact.
“Is there pistachio today by any chance?” Jaehyun asks.
“No, sorry. We only have green tea again.”
“Ah, no worries. I’ll get that.”
“I’ll have-”
“Green tea, like last time?” you finish Johnny’s sentence, remembering what he ordered last time, and he grins with an impressed nod.
Then, all parties face Mark, who simply has his eyes open like a deer in the headlights. Once again, he peers at the menu, but nothing is computing in his brain because he feels your eyes on him.
“I’ll have, uh…”
His filler drags on in awkward silence. You pucker your lips to the side of your face, mentally confirming how he truly is indeed endearing and cuter than you expected. Although you want to give him all the time in the world, you, along with his friends, sense those waiting in line boring holes into all of your heads, especially at the droning boy still staring mindlessly at the menu.
“Uh…”
Saving the day, Johnny chimes in, “Do you guys happen to have cookies and cream? That’s his favourite flavour.”
You shake your head with a sad smile, “I’m sorry, we just ran out. Is vanilla okay?”
Even though his friend is the one speaking for him, you deliberately look at Mark for an answer. It is his order after all.
Then, he doesn’t think much of it, but he glimpses into your stare and, like he fears, Mark gets lost beyond the stars and galaxies of your eyes. Completely unaware of what is happening, yet all he knows is he’s putty around you.
You’re unsure if it’s just the weather or the way the boy’s looking at you, but you feel yourself getting a little warmer with each passing second.
Despite how your question doesn’t register into his brain and he completely has no idea what you said, he still manages to nod. One chuckle from you and a dopey smile forms on Mark’s face as you begin to scoop out the orders. He’s unsure of why, but he’s a little proud of himself that he was able to make you laugh.
After you hand out the cones to them all and Jaehyun pays for the ice cream, the boys say their thank you’s (well, Mark’s thank you was an inaudible one, but you could tell he was grateful) as the people in line sigh with alleviation.
During the next order, you peer back and forth between the new customer and the three boys walking down the street. You see the taller boys ruffling the endearing boy’s hair and patting him on the back while they all seem to lick their ice creams in content.
Hopefully, when, and if, the cute boy comes around again on one of your shifts, you’d hope to have the cookies and cream flavour ready and in stock just for him.
Tumblr media
Over the course of the next few weeks, Mark tries to check out the stand whenever he’s free to see if you’re on duty. For once, he wants to be able to order ice cream from you (and maybe finally talk to you) without the pressure from the others. Unfortunately, you weren’t working the shifts when he came by in previous weeks. Fortunately, he struck gold one Saturday night.
As always, the line is long, but because it’s the weekend, it looks like it would never end. Regardless, Mark would wait forever if it meant he could be in your presence again. Waiting in line, he runs through the script in his head over on replay.
Is there cookies and cream? No? Okay, I’ll get vanilla. Oh, there is? Cool, cool…
No, don’t say cool. Awesome? Awesome!
The line moves a little ahead and Mark treads along as he bounces on the balls of his feet with his hands in his pockets.
Okay, awesome is worse than cool. Cool is fine. Cool is cool. Cool is good.
I’m cool. So cool. So good. I’m good. I’m goooood. We’re good. Stop saying good.
God, I wonder what she thinks of me?
He runs a hand through his hair, knowing that he’s about to be up in front with you. The customer in front of him drifts away from the cart and he drags his feet to make his way towards you. You greet him with your signatory honey smile and he’s already a goner.
“Hi.”
A beat.
Two beaming faces.
Wasn’t the third time supposed to be easier?
“Hi,” Mark squeaks.
Another beat.
“What can I get you today?”
Just like I practiced—
“Is there vanilla?”
Shit.
“Oh, did you not want-”
“I mean, is there cookies and cream?”
Both of you talk over one another and giggle in unison. Mark rubs the back of his head. Similarly, you tug a little at your apron. The awkward ice between you two starts to melt.
You nod, reaching into the freezer and scooping him out almost the last bit of the flavour. It’s not like you’ve been deliberately keeping a bit of cookies and cream ready in case he’d come by during your shifts.
Handing him the cone, you meet each other once again with deep looks. He’s attractive, way too attractive for his own good, and he has eyes that are calm, yet have an underlying flicker of fierceness too.
Eyes still fixed on you too, entranced by your soft, gentle gaze, Mark grabs the ice cream cone.
Or so he thinks.
Nope, that isn’t the cone. That is the sticky, dripping ice cream between his fingers, which is now dripping onto the cone and your fingers.
Perhaps he should’ve brought Johnny and Jaehyun around in case things like this happened.
“Oh, my god! I’m so sorry!” Mark bursts in apologies, frantically looking for tissues around to aid in wiping the mess up. He instinctively backs up a bit, then drops the ice cream scoop on his hand down to the sidewalk.
“Don’t worry,” you drop the cone and manage to find a wet towel behind your counter to wipe yourself up, before you naturally lightly grasp onto his raised wrist to wipe him as well. It’s happening all too fast, but tingles rise in both of your cheeks. “Happens all the time.”
You almost finish getting in between the crooks of his fingers when he croaks, “Really?”
Shaking your head with a friendly pout, you reply, “No, not really.”
As you finish cleaning his hand, you let go of him and rescoop up another cone for him. Thankfully, you have enough for two scoops.
You raise an eyebrow distrustfully, “Promise not to drop it?”
Your question may be laced with sarcasm, but you honestly did not have enough cookies and cream for another scoop if he dropped it again. And you didn’t want to see what disappointment looked like on him.
He chuckles, causing your heart to flare everywhere in adoration, “I promise.”
With extra effort and careful attention this time, he successfully holds onto the cone and begins to fetch money from his pocket.
You interject before he fishes any money out, “Don’t worry about it; it’s on the house.”
A puzzled expression falls over him and he stutters, “What, no, it’s okay. I feel bad-”
At this point, you couldn’t care less about the line of people huffing and groaning behind him. You’ve been waiting for this guy to show up on your shift again for weeks and something had to give.
Leaning a little closer to him on the counter, you whisper, “You just gotta promise me one other thing.”
He mirrors you, leans a little closer to be almost cheek against cheek with you, as if you were about to tell him the biggest secret in the world, and tilts his head, genuinely unsure of what you’re about to say.
“What is it?”
“Next time you come here, and feel free to bring your friends for moral support, but…” he winces at the mention, but you persist, “...You gotta ask me out on a date.”
Mark breaks away for a second, enough for you to see him nodding to himself. With a lick of his lips, he pierces your gaze, that flicker of fierceness hinted previously burning intensely now, and he whispers—
“I think I can manage that.”

Twenty Playlist Breakdown
I finally made the playlist for Twenty, my air genasi wild magic sorcerer so [insert ah_shit_here_we_go_again.jpg]
Family, Mother, Mother This party was very much a found family situation, Twenty managed to develop some sort of familial bond with pretty much everyone but most notably the tiefling bard Kimiko who he straight up claimed was his daughter.  It started off as just a one-off thing to get someone to leave her alone but then they both ended up taking it to heart.  This is also probably the most earnestly he’s ever felt connected to a group of people.  He has his parents but there’s a level of dedication he has to the party that he hasn’t felt before. “The people are staring and talking in whispers/"Hey what's with the strange breed?"/They is my family, they is my family/They might be crazy, but they is my family/You can't get to them unless you get through me/You fuck with them you fuck with me”
Trouble Is A Friend, Lenka Twenty sees his wild magic as a strange companion he doesn’t want but can’t do anything about so he does his best to just accept it.  It’s a strange little imp that doesn’t leave him alone.  Befriending that trouble is how he’s gotten so powerful anyway. “Trouble is a friend but trouble is a foe, oh oh/And no matter what I feed him he always seems to grow, oh oh/He sees what I see and he knows what I know, oh oh”
The Devil Wears A Suit And Tie, Colter Wall Alluding to Twenty’s background, as essentially a magical conman, the type of man to be bargained with.  He was a diplomat of sorts, offering council to anyone willing to pay.  Though he would make a deal with anyone foolhardy enough to trust him.  It’s not a period of his life that he’s particularly proud of.  Not regrets per se, just wants to keep it in the past. “Foolish foolish was I/Damn my foolish eyes/Cause that man's lessons had a price/Oh sweet price...../ Don't you know the Devil wears a suit and tie”
Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy, Queen I wanted a peppy, cheesy, unrepentantly head-over-heels song for Fifty (Twenty’s bf is an npc named Thirty so...well...easy math joke).  This is probably Twenty’s perspective since this is more energetic and Twenty has the force of personality and charisma of a sorcerer. “Ooh let me feel your heartbeat (grow faster, faster)/Ooh ooh can you feel my love heat, ooh/Come on and sit on my hot-seat of love/And tell me how do you feel right after-all/I'd like for you and I to go romancing/Say the word, your wish is my command”
Need The Sun To Break, James Bay Twenty is vaguely aware that his upbringing/past was strange but he isn’t quite ready to admit to it yet.  In the meantime he would appreciate a hug.  Or just someone to sit there next to him while he sits there in silence working through his shit.  So yeah, the anthem for Twenty’s Moments of Realization. “I need the sun to break, you've woken up my heart/I'm shaking, all my luck could change/Been in the dark for weeks and I've realized you're all I need/And I hope that I'm not too late,”
Put Your Head On My Shoulder, Paul Anka Local Touchstarved Gay Cuddles BF Nearly Twice His Height.  “Put your head on my shoulder/Hold me in your arms, baby/Squeeze me oh-so-tight/Show me that you love me too”
Sanremo, MIKA Okay, so, hear me out.  I have a very specific image in my head of this song.  It’s big Gentlemanly Older Gay Man In A Light Summer Suit Sitting On The Patio Of A Little Seaside Cafe Flipping Through A Newspaper Lazily And Glancing Up Over His Coffee Mug, Peoplewatching While He Waits For Him and that’s the vibe I try to give with Twenty like 85% of the time.  “To feel like this/Is one in a million/A suspended moment/Can we seal it/With a tender kiss?/Out of a movie/Made by Fellini/Love that you need me”
The Origin Of Love, Hedwig and the Angry Inch GOOOOOD this song slaps so hard, it has no right to slap so hard.  Just, being so desperately in love with someone because it makes him feel whole again.  “You had a way so familiar i could not recognize/Cause you had blood on your face/And i had blood in my eyes/But i swear by your expression/That the pain down in your soul was the same/As the one down in mine......../We wrapped our arms around each other/Tried to shove ourselves back together/We were making love, making love”
I’m Still Standing, Elton John Is Twenty occasionally caught off-guard by the fact that he’s on the whole, happy, living with someone he loves, living their best lives together?  Yeah.  But not in a bad way.  Just sort of stopping suddenly and going “Oh.  Sweet?  Yeah, sweet, I think?  That sounds right.” “Don't you know I'm still standing better than I ever did/Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid/I'm still standing after all this time/Picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind”
Come With Me, Chxrlotte The first time Twenty met Thirty he didn’t have a great impression, he thought he was too loud and woefully lacking in self-awareness.  BUT OH BOY DID THAT CHANGE.  At this point, Twenty just shamelessly idolizes him.  He loves him and doesn’t know where he’d be without him, simple as that.  Also, Twenty literally asked Thirty to come to the Elemental Plane of Air with him and Thirty did it, the absolute mad lad.  “Hallelujah, running to you/They won't find us, you and I can watch the stars fall from the sky/All clothed in white, my shard of light/Let's go together, we'll be free/The world ends eventually, so come with me”
7 Years, Lucas Graham God, I’m gonna have to make a separate post about Twenty’s weird upbringing at some point, aren’t I?  Anyway, short version is, Twenty was trained from birth (hell, born with the express intent) to turn him into the perfect white collar criminal/politician.  He was always being told what he needed to do.  His mother taught him politicking, his father taught him magic.  “Once I was seven years old my momma told me/Go make yourself some friends or you'll be lonely/Once I was seven years old”
Ain’t No Rest For The Wicked, Cage the Elephant Twenty in the thick of backstory, the early years of being sent out on his own, pulling schemes just subtle enough to not technically be schemes.  Though he’s very much not the narrator, if anything he’s the preacher man.  “Oh no, I can't slow down, I can't hold back/Though you know, I wish I could/Oh no there ain't no rest for the wicked/Until we close our eyes for good”
Magic, Mystery Skulls He’s a ~Magic Man~, I wanted a song about magic.  You could also make the argument that it’s a Fifty song but this one doesn’t have a terribly deep explanation.  “The spell you got on me, it's like magic/Got me feeling like falling in love....../ So it took me by surprise, oh no.”
The Logical Song, Pomplamoose (cover) Okay, I was gonna use the original version of this song but I ended up preferring the vocals on this cover better.  This one better hits on Twenty’s upbringing, being trained in manipulation and magic, how to bend people in his favor, he must be perfect, must be because he’s their legacy, someone has to make sure the Bellisario family keeps its influence, who will be there to spread the family’s will if not him?  He has to be a worthy son.  “Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned/I know it sounds absurd/Please tell me who I am”
Thief, Imagine Dragons Look, I could put this on here exclusively for the fucking sweet opening riff.  But, oh boy, he’s a middle aged man suddenly having to forge an identity of his own, independent from the ideals instilled in him by his family and sometimes, wouldn’t it-?  Wouldn’t it just be easier to be that man who stumbled into the strange mansion in the mountains?  He knew what he was supposed to do.  He had a goal.  The man who left didn’t have anything like that.  “So take me back/When I believed/Back when I was unafraid.../ When the stars look down on me/What do they see”
Amsterdam, Imagine Dragons Oh look, Twenty’s mom finally made an appearance.  Twenty and his parents were under the implicit agreement/understanding that he needed to keep them up to date with his movements and schemes, his mother primarily since she was the parent living in the Prime Material Plane.  This petered off eventually (it was a long eventually but an eventually nonetheless) but he’s still glad that at least under the current circumstances he doesn’t have to deal with both of his parents.  His mother may be the one who taught him politics but she has no qualms with brutal honesty and he knows she would be vocally disappointed in him.  His father doesn’t take him all that seriously but more just finds his ‘antics’ amusing, he thinks the insistence on the name Twenty is funny.  His mother is just as passive aggressive but far more vocal, she would take the name Twenty as akin to an insult, he is Alexander Bellisario and he can’t change that.  “I'm sorry, mother... I'm sorry, I let you down/Well, these days I'm fine/No these days I tend to lie”

April Activities
April is one of the best months. It’s still cool enough to have my winter blanket on the bed, but warm enough to maybe go out without a coat. Nothing is better. Sorry about the weather-talk, but it’d be insane of me not to mention it’s so beautiful out. Onto this month’s happenings! So many things took place!
Firstly, the big news. We’ve moved! Only a few streets away, but into a waaaaay better apartment. It’s almost a joke how much better it is. We were coming from a basement apartment, so pretty much anything above ground floor would impress us, but there are a hundred little details about our new place that I’m in love with. So crazy thankful and happy with it all. We’re still getting settled into the place, but I’m planning on doing a post about all the little things I’m doing to it with the decor and storage and boring things (but oh so fun to me) like that, so keep an eye out for that post coming out most likely before the end of the month. So excited to get this place homey and lovely.
I went to a Rapters game at the Barclays Center and whoa, it was a dumb amount of fun. Nathan met someone in the audience at one of his shows who works at Barclays and got him a few VIP tickets (fifth row from court side!) and it was pretty incredible. There was tons of free food (shriiiiimp!) and soft serve ice cream and beef tenderloin and fancy water and free snacks, it was the best. I could list all the food specifics here, but I don’t want to seem like a dick who thinks she’s better than you (but might be?).
I went to the Glossier flagship store again to try this highlighter aaaaand it was pretty basic, so that was disappointing. I also tried their Boy Brow again and I think that yes, it is a good product. Although is it worth $16? Not sure. I’m still considering Benefit’s mini version for $12, so that’s likely the next eyebrow product I’ll buy/try.
I treated myself and bought the full size version of Laneige’s Lip Sleeping Mask (which is HUGE and should last me eight hundred years) as well as a new Fenty sponge because my old sponge was beginning to look nasty.
I tried the new basil foaming hand soap from Trader Joe’s because that’s an amazing idea for a scent. But the quality of the bottle itself is so cheap, it makes an awful squeaking sound when you use it. Don’t buy.
Loving these two songs lately.
Yes, I hate receiving foundation samples. You know this. That being said, I tried the one from Yves Saint Laurent and even though it was the wrong colour for me, it felt crazy nice and moisturizing on my skin. I can see why people go so crazy for this product. I still won’t buy it because I don’t really love wearing foundation, but maybe one day when I believe that foundation makes a difference?
I tried the Smile Foot Mask from The Face Shop and HOLY SHIT. It’s good enough that you can ignore the creepy baby feet on the packaging. And I mean, my feet are pretty well taken care of already, but this was some next-level shit. Definitely keeping this one in the rotation.
I know that I told you I was going to start taking collagen, but with the move I slacked a little so I don’t want to comment on it yet. I’m gonna start it again and take it on a daily basis starting tomorrow so I will definitely have thoughts on it this time next month.
Love this meme.

I went to Niagara Falls with my family and it was the best. Just a ton of fun.

I started watching Schitt’s Creek and it’s pretty good so far. I only saw about five episodes, but that’s enough to have an opinion, yeah? I want to watch more, but those Frasier reruns aren’t gonna watch themselves.
Watched The Bye Bye Man and wooooooof, it was rough.
I also watched Crazy Rich Asians and it was great! I’d wanted to see it for awhile and it was just a fun movie. A friend of mine accidentally called it Crazy Sexy Asians and it made me laugh, but that’s a way better title. I love, love, love Elvis’ version of this song, so whenever it gets covered, I’ll love it to pieces. Also, the wedding scene? With the water? Jesus! So nice. Even watching it now makes me teary, it’s so beautiful.
Ate at The Cactus Club with the lovely Marla for her birthday (!) and it was goooood. The short rib pappardelle? Heavenly.
One of my favourite recipes that I haven’t been able to make for awhile since I used to live in a place WITH NO OVEN is this baked pickles one. Just made it last night and still holds up. So tasty.
There’s an upcoming lantern festival in Mississauga that I just heard about on August 10th that seems pretty lovely.
Have you ever tried chocolate mint coffee before? We just got some beans from a place near us and made some this morning and I was jacked for about three hours. Really tasty, I just don’t understand how a person could drink coffee every day.
I was in need of a fancy dress so I went to Burlington in Union Square and was shocked at how nice/inexpensive everything was. I got a Calvin Klein dress (that I later returned because I’m CLASSY) for $40! Such a great place. Easier to browse than Century 21, for SURE.
The reason I needed that fancy dress? I WENT TO THE OPENING NIGHT OF THE BEETLEJUICE MUSICAL! And it was incredible. I have a friend who’s in the ensemble and graciously invited me and it was everything. I’ve never been to an opening night before and the air was electric. Such a fun time. I met Richard Kind at the after party and gushed about Clifford for approx. two minutes before he ran away.
Really enjoyed the new Lizzo album, the best songs are definitely Like A Girl and Soulmate.
I tried the relatively new chicken pieces from Shake Shack and there’s literally NOTHING DANNY MEYER CAN DO WRONG. They’re delicious, obviously.
I had no idea that The Strand will buy your old books. Amazing.
There are no Home Sense stores in the States (as far as I know), which sucks. But I came across Home Goods on the Upper West Side (thank you for the suggestion Harmeet!) and even though it’s really not as good, it’s actually okay. I appreciate the attempt of them trying to be a Home Sense.
I went to the new Rec Room in Square One and it was pretty good, I thought. Obviously you need to walk in with a full wallet, but I mean… it’s something to do? It’s pretty much Playdium with better food.
And that was April! Some things to look out for in next month’s roundup: highlights from Tianna’s visit to NYC, I’m going to a screening of Booksmart, and I swear I’ll do that apartment post. Honestly that’s the only thing I’m really, really looking forward to - I love this new place so much. Thanks for reading!

Intermittent Fasting and Keto
New Post has been published on http://healingawerness.com/healthy-diets/ketogenic-diet/intermittent-fasting-and-keto/
Intermittent Fasting and Keto
Grant doesn't care to intermittent fast He likes to eat always
Goooood morning! It's 11:50 We're gonna have to put baby on for this one, hold on There we go, that's better huh? I wanted to make a video today to accompany the week three topic that I'm going over with my clients Which is intermittent fasting It's probably my favorite subject
I have a blog post about it on my website Because I think it truly is key to weight loss on a ketogenic diet Before I get into too much blabbering on about it, I just wanted to talk about how I practice intermittent fasting So, it is 11:50, as I said, I've just had water so far today Just regular ole water
I'm going to make now one of those Ultima replenishers to get some electrolytes I worked calves really hard the other day and I'm trying to avoid feeling really crampy in them, so I'm gonna drink that and then I'll probably have my bulletproof coffee in another hour maybe This has been a slow progression for me so it's not like I started eating my first meal at 2:00 right away And I also recognize that I am in a unique situation because I work from home and sometimes if baby hasn't slept well through the night and he goes back down for a morning nap I will go down for a morning nap And it's a lot easier to not eat breakfast, when you're sleeping
But I know mornings are a busy time for a lot of people So if you're not eating breakfast it's kinda one less thing to worry about, so if you slowly work your way into intermittent fasting maybe pushing your first meal back by an hour and then by two hours until you're not really eating your first meal until the afternoon, I think that can be a great strategy to get started So I'm gonna drink some electrolytes and then we'll have another little talk when it comes time for my love of bulletproof coffee Ok now it is about 1:15, baby just went down for his nap I am finished up almost with my electrolyte water here
I am going to make my first calorically significant item of the day I'm going to make my bulletproof coffee So I started doing bulletproof coffee when I first heard about it which was 2016? But it became huge for me when I started working at a hotel job that had me getting up at 3:30 in the morning because I started my shift at five and I was not ready to get up and eat breakfast or spend any time more than I absolutely had to to make breakfast in the mornings So bulletproof coffee really became my beverage of choice and the thing that would kind of keep me full through the beginning of my shift at work On a personal preference side of things as far as how I make it, I make it with salted butter as opposed to unsalted butter, which putting butter in coffee might kinda freak people out, but if you're using unsalted it's really just like solidified cream But I like to use salted because I think it actually counteracts some of the bitterness in coffee and I also just love the taste of butter so it doesn't bother me at all if my coffee is a little buttery tasting Females in particular we kind of digest and absorb everything slower than men that's true when it comes to alcohol or caffeine, any other substance
And I myself am very substance sensitive in general And I used to get the jitters from caffeine But not with bulletproof coffee Because adding the fat in slows the digestion and the release of that caffeine So not only are you not getting jittery, but it also helps to prevent that crash
Because it's releasing more incrementally it's going to make that energy more stable And fat is really brain food so that fat is going to be helping you to feel even more alert and it's just a perfect combination Now when it comes to using bulletproof coffee for fat loss, it's great at helping to keep you feeling full and satisfied because of all that fat in there I used to do it with butter and coconut oil, but I have recently switched from coconut oil to MCT which are the medium chain triglycerides that are in coconut oil anyway it's just a more concentrated version And I swear that keeps me full for like twice as long
I used to think MCT was one of those fancy things that like you didn't really need to spend the money on and you can find them for not too expensive online especially in stores if you can find them on sale and I have decided that MCT is definitely worth it And that's what I make it with now, so I do a tablespoon of MCT, a tablespoon of grass-fed butter, my mushroom coffee that I'm so excited about which I've talked about in previous vlogs because it's half caffeine and I'm breastfeeding so I like that I also do one scoop of collagen peptides just because it's supposed to be good for your skin and stuff Blend it up and top it off with some cinnamon and it is delicious So
I'll show you that whole process now So good Now I am going to take advantage of this precious baby nap time with my new found cognitive abilities from my bulletproof coffee and get some work done Well that didn't last super long but I am done with my bulletproof coffee now and it's about 3:00 and I'm going to have my first meal of the day To make a major note that I'm not going hungry until 3:00
You know, I'm starting, this is my first meal at 3:00 I'll probably finish eating around 9:00 so that's like a six hour eating window Sometimes before 9 But I usually have my dessert around 8:00ish like while relaxing with Weston and watching a show But the point of intermittent fasting is not to go hungry and I definitely started slow with this I used to have my bulletproof coffee first thing in the morning when I would wake up
Kinda used that to keep myself full until I was ready to have my first meal Sorry my camera died, but basically I was just saying that intermittent fasting doesn't mean forcing yourself to go hungry It's something that I went into very slowly and has worked out great for me especially as I get further into ketosis and weightless maybe isn't so easy Because the reason why intermittent fasting and keto go together so well is because keto is training your body to burn fat So that can either come from dietary fat, the fat that you're eating, or the fat that's on your body
So if you're constantly feeding your body dietary fat, your body's never going to have the chance to start burning off your body fat and intermittent fasting is what gives your body some time every day to turn to that body fat for fuel rather than constantly relying on dietary fat To me, that is the big secret to making keto weight loss work for you Especially long term So I had my first meal at around 3:00 today it is now 6:30ish and I am finishing up some fajita chili lime steak that we're gonna be putting over a nice little bed of avocado here I also made some keto bacon fudge that we're gonna give a try probably tonight
But I still feel satiated from my lunch which is another tip when it comes to not necessarily intermittent fasting but just in general with ketosis You want to leave, a decent amount of time between your meals I usually stick with like 3 or 4 hours, sometimes a little bit more Because you're eating really high fat so you should be able to feel full for longer And if you're doing keto for weight loss you shouldn't really be snacking because then again you're always giving your body that dietary fat to burn instead of your body fat
Just to drive this point home is that keto does not equal weight loss SAY IT LOUDER You can be in ketosis because you're eating lots of fat and very low carb but if you're not in somewhat of a caloric deficit then you're not going to continue to see weight loss Now if you're used to tracking your macros or anything like that then you know that both carbs and protein are 4 calories per gram where as fat is 9 calories per gram so you're getting more than double the amount of calories when you're eating fat But when you're intermittent fasting and you're maybe eating only two meals throughout the day it really helps to balance out those calories, keep you in a caloric deficit, and make it so that you don't feel hungry because I do not do feeling hungry
It is my least favorite state to be in ever I hate Florida, I hate Florida So those are the big take aways that I would give for intermittent fasting is that ketosis and intermittent fasting is really a match made in heaven This fudge is actually really really good I've just been like licking the knife
So good Mmhmm
