#like can you name me ONE good memory Sasuke has with Fugaku
Text
Itachi Uchiha’s relationship with Sasuke was not that of a normal, caring older brother but straight up parentification. It’s obvious Mikoto and Fugaku *constantly* left baby Sasuke in his care leading up to the nine tales attack, as evidenced by Itachi’s ability to get 3 (4?) month old Sasuke to stop crying and Itachi wearing a sling to carry Sasuke (you only do that if you would carry a baby for long periods of time). In this essay, I will

SasuSaku Headcanon OTD 🌸⚡️
The first time Sasuke took Sakura to visit his family’s resting place, he was overcome with emotions and couldn’t speak. Sakura held his hand and spoke for him, telling his parents small things about him and mentioned how proud she knew they were of him.
Quick Read:
When Sasuke had asked Sakura to accompany him today, the destination had mattered very little. Her heart had swelled so much with the prospect of simply being by his side for the day that there hardly existed a force powerful enough to change her mood.
And yet, something felt off. Sakura took note of the shift in Sasuke’s demeanor. The usual slack of his shoulders and the swiftness of his gait was replaced with tension and yielding. She would call his name and though he never spoke, he would occasionally falter in his steps until their strides were one and the same.
The path was unfamiliar to Sakura but to Sasuke it was but a gateway to a plethora of painful memories. The longer they walked and with each change that unraveled within Sasuke, Sakura’s mind began piecing it all together. The gates of the Uchiha compound welcome them with a silent embrace, suffocating them both.
Sakura’s uneasiness shifts more to worry as she tries to steal a glance at Sasuke but his face is guarded both by his hair and the suppression of his emotions. She moves closer to him as they walk and he appears to do the same.
Sasuke comes to stand between two unkempt stones and, as Sakura joins him, her eyes soften with a somber gaze. Again she looks to Sasuke but his eyes are shut tight and his lips firm. He wants to speak, she thinks, but he can’t seem to summon the words.
A warm feeling works its way into Sasuke’s palm and he follows its tugs as Sakura lowers them both to their knees. “It’s been a while, hasn’t it?”
Sasuke can only bring himself to nod silently.
Never once releasing his grip, Sakura’s delicate voice breaks the silence. “Konnichiwa, Fugaku-san...Mikoto-san. You probably don’t know me since Sasuke-kun probably hasn’t mentioned me much. I’m Sakura, Sasuke-kun’s girlfriend. It’s nice to finally meet you both.”
Her cheeks warm in the evening sun and beneath the intensity of Sasuke’s gaze. Determined, she continues. “Sasuke-kun has changed a lot since you last saw him. He’s taller now and his hair is longer. Sometimes he’ll let me cut it when he comes home after a long time. He’s a lot stronger now, just like you knew he’d be. He’s a hero too, even if he won’t admit it.”
Her doe eyes glance to the sky as she feels her smile deepen. “Some things have stayed the same too. He’s not very good at talking about his feelings or at all really. He’s grumpy in the mornings and tomatoes are still his favorite.”
Sakura pauses for a moment, noticing the smallest of tremors from the hand resting in her own. Her thumb gently brushes over Sasuke’s knuckles as she emits a light stream of chakra that calms him almost immediately.
Content, she continues once more. “He hasn’t come by in a while but he’s been working very hard looking out for everyone so please don’t be too hard on him. He’s been through a lot and hasn’t always made the best decisions so he’s very hard on himself. Still, I know you both are very proud of him and Itachi-san as well. He’s a handful but I promise I’ll keep looking after him here so please look out for him a little while longer up there too, okay?”
Sakura rests her hand atop Sasuke’s mother’s grave and waits patiently for him to do the same for his father’s. They brush away the rude leaves and dirt that have accumulated there and slowly rise to their feet. A sudden wind circles them both, before carrying off on its way.
“Sakura...I...”
Sakura takes Sasuke’s hand once more, lacing their fingers together and squeezing gently as she gives him a reassuring smile. “Ah. I know Sasuke-kun.”
They both share a final glance at the two headstones and turn to leave. A smaller wind returns and carefully places a single petal and leaf upon the graves.

You mentioned sasuke has a lot of enemies, did they ever try to use Naruto to get to sasuke?
(Story time. This happened only once tho.)
It was Saturday and Naruto was playing video games when the door rank. It was daylight and he figured it were just some girl scouts selling cookies. He opened the door and sees this beautiful women and he thought  “damn” . Then what he thought was a women, talked and it was clearly a men. But Naruto wasn’t going to assume their gender. So he was avoiding the pronounce.
“Good afternoon, My name is Haku Yuki.” Haku said, tucking his long black hair behind his ear. “I’m sorry, does a Sasuke Uchiha live here. I believe his full name is Sasuke Uchiha-Uzumaki now. I hope I am not at the wrong address.”
“Yes he lives here. He is my husband.” Naruto says.
“What a lucky man he is, you’re pretty handsome...And cute.” Haku says eyeing Naruto who blushed slightly.
“He’s not home. He went grocery shopping, but he will be back. You can come inside if you want?”
“It would be my pleasure,” Haku said kindly and entered the house. He took his shoes off immediately and walked inside.
“So where do you my husband from?” Naruto asks as he indicated to the couch. He expected Haku to probably be family the two had some similarities. Only Haku was soft spoken and a lot kinder.
“We went to highschool together.” Haku says with a smile. Naruto thought he kept a pretty good poker face the moment. He knew damn well that was not a good sign and he cursed his guest friendly nature.
“Do you want something to drink? I will make us some tea and you can tell me all about highschool with Sasuke.” Naruto gets up to go to the kitchen, thinking if he climbed out of the window there he could jump to the rain pipe and climb down. Haku wouldn’t be any wiser. But he was wrong the moment he entered the kitchen and opened the window he felt a gun pressed against his back and a chill voice telling him not to scream. Haku told him to close the window and get back inside. And Naruto had choice. He was put down on a chair as Haku closed the curtains and tied Naruto up.
Haku puts the gun away and sits down adjacent to Naruto.
“Sasuke in high school. He was very talented. I had hard time catching up to him. It really bothered me that he ended up being number one and I was number two. He was good. He could twist the neck of a bunny without thinking twice. I never liked killing. He was a natural though. I think I have some pictures, which are not fabricated...” Haku sasy reaching for his bag.
“Fabricated. I thought Fugaku fabricated the pictures himself.” Naruto said.
“Oh no, the boarding school fabricated a lot of it. They probably send him already fabricated pictures.” Haku grabs a few pictures and show them.
“This is me,” he points at a picture where he was sitting on a wall, holding a knife behind the pictures were like 5 dead bodies. “This is Sasuke...But we called him number 13 back then. I was number 34 and This guy was like 55 or so.” He points at Sasuke in the picture who was not smiling. He wasn’t even looking. The other child seemed to be crying.
Haku grabbed another picture, “This is us during hell week.”
“Hell week?” Naruto asked.
“oh where we survived on only one to three hours of sleep while going through intensive training. It was rough. Especially when they tortured us during to keep our mouths shut.”
“That is terrible!” Naruto says.
“I thought so too,” Haku said.
He hears the door open and close and Haku presses his finger against his lips. Naruto was wondering what was going through Haku’s head.
“SASUKE!” He screamed, there was no way he was not going to warn him...Only down luck....Naruto always screamed Sasuke for insignificant things.
“Yes,yes..I am coming. I swear to god if it is that damn game again...” He entered the living room and sees Haku. Haku waves at him. Sasuke looks at Naruto. Naruto looks at Sasuke.
“Hey Sasuke-” Haku didn’t even have time to finish. It was quickly die or fight and Naruto had to be honest he did not get to see Sasuke fighting someone who was as skilled as he was and seeing to two going at it was like watching an action movie.
Sasuke had Haku pinned down ready to knock him out. Haku grabbed some needles from his sleeve and threw them at Naruto.
Naruto saw Sasuke reach for the knife around his ankle and throw it towards the needles. Redirecting them towards the wall instead. Haku took his chance and use the needles in his other sleeve on Sasuke, but Sasuke kicked over the coffee table and the needles got suck on the wooden surface instead. He kicked the tabled over at Haku before grabbing, what seemed to be a kusanagi taped under that table and slice and hold it right at Haku’s throat. Haku put his hands up, laughing.
“You’ve gotten weaker!”He points out.
“Still capable of kicking your ass!” Sasuke says.
“So it is like riding a bike,”  Haku says, getting up. “You’re not going to kill me.”
“Try me.” Sasuke hisses.
“I mean you no harm. You attacked me first.” Haku says.
“You kidnapped my husband!” Sasuke hissed.
“I was preventing him from getting hurt by climbing through the window.” Haku says.
“I was trying to get away like you taught me,” Naruto says.
“You did good babe, not your fault.” Sasuke says not breaking eye contact from Haku.
“I am not here to hurt you or your husband. He way too cute to hurt.” Haku says.
“Thanks....” Naruto says.
“Fine...Tell me the truth...And watch it. I’ll know when you’re lying.” Sasuke says.
“You haven’t changed a bit. You were always better in weapons and combat not to mention you could always lie like no one else.” Haku lowers the sword, making sure not to hurt his fingers. He sat down on the dining table, looking at Naruto.
“We were just chatting about you in highschool, were we not, Naruto dear?” Haku says. Sasuke walks over to his husband, cutting him loose.
“I was just showing him some old pictures, you remember right?” Haku says grabbing the pictures he dropped and handing them to Sasuke. He turns back to Naruto, “We always got along. We had each others back a lot. Not the best strategy when you’re thrown in a cage together with two knives.”
“How did you get these?” Sasuke askes, sitting down himself.
It was like the two did not try to kill each other a few seconds ago.
“There were two classes I was better at than you. One was stealing thing.” Haku says, “I had stole all of these back in those days. These were the little memories I wanted to keep.”
“I never thought I would ever see a picture with Itama in it...” Sasuke says looking at the third boy in the picture. His eyes softened.
“It is too bad he didn’t make it out alive...” Haku sighed and turned his head to Naruto.
“Oh god he is even more handsome up close.” Haku says, “How did a handsome man like you ever marry Sasuke.”
“Don’t answer that,” Sasuke tells Naruto.
“Hey,” Haku’s hand moved over Naruto’s arm. “There was still another class I was better at. I think you’ll will appreciate knowing that I am very good in the art of-”
“Baby, why don’t you make us some tea. Please....” Sasuke says pushing Naruto towards the kitchen.
Haku looks from Naruto to Sasuke and he gave Sasuke a kind smile.
“Always good keeping secrets...Your marriage must be suffering from it.”
“not at all-”
“A little...” Naruto interrupts Sasuke.
“But you didn’t come here to just show me some pictures, did you?” Sasuke says going back to business.
“I heard you are a detective. You could have made so much more money if you just-”
“I don’t have children so I am fine with my income.” Sasuke interrupts Haku again.
“I heard you work with Tobirama now. He was so dreamy back in boarding school. I swear if he had asked me to suck his dick, I would’ve. No question asks.” Haku looked dreamy for a moment.
“He didn’t age well.”
“Really?!” Haku looks as Sasuke see if he was lying or not, but he could not tell.
“I always thought he had a thing for you. Everytime he would look over at us in the cafeteria. It is like he blocked out everyone and just look at you.”
“Yeah I am pretty sure he was looking at Itama, him being his brother and all...”
“Oh you’re ruining my romantic story,” Haku says, “He also looked at you after Itama died.”
“Because...I carried his dead body from the forest to the gates.”  Sasuke arched an eyebrow.
“Okay but riddle me this...Why when Danzo tied you up to a moving wheel as punishment. Why did the best knife throwing in the school, miss all five shots? Unless...He was protecting you. Remember, as punishment for missing you were allowed to leave the wheel and he had to stand there instead and get knives thrown at him. Isn’t that how he got the scars on his cheeks. Or how the seniors has to torture the freshman. We had to keep holding on to information and they had to learn how to get it out of us. Wasn’t he the one who had to torture you. What did he do again? There were so many good options like drowning, he could have cut you open, remove finger nails, pull your teeth out, shock you, there were so many options. I was blindfolded and made to believe a truck was going to run over my head if I didn’t give them the codes. Good thing I had forgotten the code myself because I was close to cracking. The one who lost would get two days in solitary, terrible. What did he do to you? You were the only freshman that came out of there unharmed and the only one of the five freshman of Tobirama’s that did not crack. I heard he was horrible. He got two days in the hole for you. Isn’t that romantic and now you two work together after all these years. Wouldn’t that have been so nice if you two ended up together.”
“Haku, if you’re into him...Go for it.” Sasuke says, “I am already married.”
“Right,” Haku looks over his shoulder at Naruto, “So hot. Is he the same boy you fell in love with in middle school and then your father figured it out and send you to Danzo’s school where you got traumatised for four years.”
“Yes.”
“How romantic you two found your way back to each other,” Haku says, “And now your married with children.”
“We don’t have children,” Sasuke says firmly.
“Really....Why, you make a good dad. No...You make an okay-ish dad, but I am sure he makes a good dad.” Haku looks back at Naruto, “A good daddy for real.”
“Haku....What do you want?”
“Right!” Haku says, “Full immunity...And a green card. No...Full citizenship. ”
Sasuke leans back in his chair, folding his legs.
“What ya got for me,” Sasuke says.

This is a review for the amazing sasusaku fanfic Perpetual Winter by @thefangirlslair It’s a brilliant modern AU and I highly recommend it!!!  You can read it on fanfiction.net or tumblr :)))) FF: c l i c kkkk Tumblr: Part I, Special Chapter, Part II And time for a criminally late and obscenely long review!!!
Pt I
Winter has never been his favorite season
Damn what an intro, I’m already getting angst vibes lmao.  I really like how you set the scene and stage the world of this AU.  I didn’t expect the existence of clans in this piece, with it being a modern AU, but this is such a fascinating twist on the setting to me. I loved how you described Naruto’s endurance as unnatural, “like there’s a demon living inside him” and Sasuke and his clan have inexplicable warmth….inexplicable do I dare say…fire ???? ;))))))
Lmao seriously what a great way to pay homage to canon though.  I love these attributes!
Modern au Sasuke that reads poetry and drinks coffee is a brand of pretentiousness I can get behind
Aaaaaaa omg I really REALLY REALLY fucking love this intro!  I love how you describe Sasuke as appreciating liveliness, and vibrance—which we can honestly assume is canon with how his two closest people are the embodiment of these traits.  And I love how you tie it back into the seasons.  This really gives so much life to that motif in this story, and the title. That was clever af
…he was taken back to the time where winter was just a mere season, Bon Iver was playing on their shared earphones, and Sakura was his.
WHAT THE FUCK YOU JUST FUCKING DESTROYED ME WHAT A WAY TO SEGWAY INTO THE NEXT SCENE OOOOF IM KSJDFHLJSAKFL
There are so many things I love about this following scene…  you really know how to write a couple in casual, mutual love.  The banter and candidness of their interaction just has me floored. I also REALLY love that this is from Sasuke’s perspective, and how even though he doesn’t have an overwhelming amount of dialogue, we’re in his head, and his appreciation and love for Sakura just radiates.  Lines like these:
From her latest discovered band to a recent discovery in medicine by a genius dude whose name he doesn’t even remember, she shares it with him. Favorite anime character, favorite memory with him, favorite pair of underwear — he knows it all because she’s that open to him about things she love.
They’re just….so good. I can hear his voice, his ardor, and his impeccable understanding of Sakura’s personality while also expressiong his own.  The choice of having the narrative skewed through his lens was def a good decision. And ugh this piece is just overwhelmingly amazing already
He doesn’t know the pain to be dealt with when you’ve broken up with someone because Sakura was his first girlfriend. And honestly, he doesn’t, couldn’t, even think about being apart from her. Just the thought of them breaking up already makes him panic a little. He always thought to himself, ‘I will never let that happen.’
Okay this paragraph……………this paragraph tho……..dropping this.  KNOWING. They’re gonna break up……….HOW DARE U
Seriously, what powerful writing.  I don’t know how you do it……
I think it’s incredibly interesting that you chose music to be the catalyst for this beautiful, climactic moment of closeness  My best friend/partner and I have had convos before about it, and she and i once talked about how we think of sex with music lol.  I don’t know how to entirely explain myself on that, or where I’m really going with this, but I get the same vibe here too.  Music that’s close to you is like an artistic intimacy and there’s something very personal and vulnerable about it.  Maybe it’s an auditory thing, like getting lost in one of those guided meditations.  (idk if you’ve ever had one that actually worked, they don’t always for me, but when they do god damn, it’s unreal)  Either way, I really loved the way this scene played out, it was highly relatable and highly emotional, and I feel serenity and ardor just reading it.  Beautifully done.
I love the way you moved back to the present and we immediately feel the differences and the similarities.  The fondness and affection is still there, if not a little more muted, and it’s so obvious they still have feelings for each other.  But there’s definitely moments that speak to their separation too, with the little differences in Sakura that Sasuke notices, or instances like her no longer drinking coffee or him deciding to open the door.
I really like how you inserted the interaction with Kakashi too.  One thing I’m quickly noticing about this fic and your writing is how you very stealthily relay information to us readers.  It’s seamless and entertaining, and I’m learning about this world and the past in ways that are so attention grabbing I don’t even notice it.
Also Itachi’s death and the way you handled it from Sasuke’s pov is so reminiscent of canon and also so gut wrenching.  The lines
How dare Itachi leave him alone? How dare Itachi sacrifice himself and die? How dare Itachi pass his responsibilities onto his shoulders…
especially gutted me because of how is stands in stark parallels to the Sasuke we know in canon.  This really smacked my head around with feels….poor Sasuke
OMFG POOR SASUKE !!!?!?!??!?!??!? THAT ENDING OOOLOGDSLGFSLKDGHLSDHFLKDFHVSLKV WHAT A FUCKING CURVE BALL LMAO
I mean maybe I should have seen that coming because like of course!!!  But also I’M LOSING M Y SHIT HAHAHAHAAA
I can’t wait to see how this unfolds!!!!!
Special Chapter
This is such a powerful scene to start with.  Itachi’s entire character was such a major influence in canon and seeing the way his death is affecting everyone now is so emotional.  I feel so bad for Sasuke, having to take on all the burdens Itachi had left behind for him.
Also these lines:
“Mikoto cried, “Don’t you think it’s too soon? I just buried my first-born just barely a week ago and now we’re discussing how you’re gonna ruin my youngest’s life just like you did with Itachi?!”
The way her voice cracked when she said his brother’s name broke his heart. She’s still grieving, probably forever, and here they are talking about Sasuke’s suicide.”
Literally killed me. Dead.  Deceased.  Fallen to the Void.  It’s so brilliant and powerful, and speaks so deeply on their dysfunctional family dynamics and feelings with so few lines.  Really loved this…
This next scene was so stark and sad and beautiful.  I meant to comment and pull lines again, but I couldn't stop reading tbh.  Sasuke's thoughts and emotions concerning Sakura are so vividly gentle and full of praise.  There's such a soft worship in the way you write his feelings towards her and tbh it's my absolute and only interpretation of feelings I care for concerning the depiction of their relationship.  Still, you do this with a certain cleverness and mastery.  It's really so moving for me...
The dream sequence that follows is absolutely debilitating, but so well done.  I got the sense it was a dream only a few lines in just from the bluntness of the lines.  It was truly very dream-like lol.  I really could feel the panic and guilt along all of his inner turmoil.  It's incredibly horrific to have such a dream about murder just after Itachi's too.  This was devastating.
I really loved the way Sakura calms him groom the panic/anxiety attack.  I've actually had a similar experience once, where I woke up from a nightmare and I was very frightened and stiff and couldn't really articulate myself.  I remember I had felt deep horror and self loathing and nothing else.  (I still remember the nightmare too, it was horrible.)  My best friend at the time just threw herself on the bed and held me.
It's so crazy how grounding touch can be.  I really felt that with Sasuke and Sakura too.  The comfort she offers him is so seamless to her character and so ardently palpable.  The repetition of "I got you" really touched me especially.  It breaks my heart knowing the inevitable end of their relationship to come.
Oooooohhhh daaamnnnnn
I did NOT see the raunchy sex coming lmfao!!  Although in hindsight, I probably should have.  You already told us how they tend to get down and dirty when emotions run high with the arguments and make-up sex.  I imagine this is instigated by Sasuke often, with him struggling to articulate his need for Sakura verbally so he does so physically.  And I imagine Sakura is just kinky enough to crave this sort of animal want.
I do love how sexual interactions are easily moving in tandem with their emotions, how it just feels like another mode of communication.  Sasuke breaking down during it leaves me feeling so tender too.  It's tragic
She smiled. Sasuke doesn't know if he wants that smile or not.
These exit lines are going to fucking kill me istg
The following events honestly hurts to read because Damn haven't we all been there...  the fallout of a relationship to the point where you're just dragging it through the mud… it’s a true deterioration of soul and you capture that slow death so well.  I really feel terrible for Sakura—Sasuke too—but it sucks for her to be in the dark like this.
I love the way you write Karin!!!  Honestly, I think it really mirrors the way she's written in canon.  She's cold and strategically loud and generally calculating and overall kind of apathetic.  She doesn't really know the value of meaningful relationships (and therefore doesn't prioritize them) until much later on in the series.  I definitely get this sense of her here too.  She's a little cold, but not cruel, and she has the pragmatic values of her and Sasuke's union in mind as she agrees to it all.  I really like how you made her personality come through here.
Meanwhile there’s him, sucking all the hard traits from their father. His competitive streak, arrogant way of speaking, harsh words — it’s all Fugaku. And suddenly, he feels so exhausted.
This line hit me so hard. I love this fic already for an endless number of reasons but a striking one is how well you interrogate the relationships between family.  When you described Itachi’s death as Sasuke losing a part of him, I really felt that. And here when you write about the way Sasuke takes after Fugaku and hates it and is also exasperated from it, just like how his father likely is, it just runs bone deep.  You really know how to speak to life experiences and relationships in consistently intimate ways.  I love that about you
This is his reality now — no more dream, no more Itachi; and pretty soon, no more Sakura.
’It hurts,’ Sasuke thought. 'It hurts, aniki.’
Wow death by angst lmao thanks for the pain, maren, glad to know you like to torture your readers as much as our ninja babies.  Srsly tho the cadence of these lines and the material itself sync up perfectly.  It’s such powerful writing
This entire scene is stuffed to the brim with dread and turbulence, and it’s so lifelike, I feel it’s haunting.  The way you describe the suffocating atmosphere of the car ride, how Sasuke snaps at Sakura for simply knowing that something is up, the awkwardness of the dinner… You really brought so much passion into these scenes, I feel like I’m being tortured right with them lol
I looooooove the drama of this playing out omg.  The way you have this convo go down is like a punch to the gut.  Sakura announcing her acceptance to Harvard, and then her refusal to go. Sasuke knowing he’s the reason why…the guilt…the anger…
Also omfg these lines:
Sasuke hardened his resolve and stiffly said, “No. I don’t need you, Sakura.”
’Yes, I do.’
Sakura shook her head, “Yes, you do.”
I DIED.  Sakura callin’ him out on his bull shit I fucking LOST IT lmaooOOooo   I love this so much and I love how you write their dynamic!  It’s funny how this fic plays into a lot of romantic clichés but also subverts them—gives them a twist that knocks the reader right off their feet. It’s honestly incredible
I loved the way you brought in winter into this scene too.  The image of it, the feel of it, the terrible, lonely tone. It suits the entire mood of it all.
This is going to sound super dumb but I genuinely love how much agency you give Sakura btw.  You probably know I’m a raging, batshit feminist by now and I gotta say, her dialogue is consistently powerful and reeks of someone who knows who they are, and their worth, even when in the fallout of a relationship where they are getting the short end of the stick.  Like I’m just sitting here reading “Sasuke, you dumb jackass, what are you doing” lmfaoooo LIKE GURL I WOULD TREAT U SO GOOD…. SAKU BB IM SO SORRY BUT ALSO TRUST I KNOW HOW IT BE
I really do love it.  And I love how you wrote Sakura as an orphan too.  It really flips the script on the canon material (eat shit, kishimoto!!  Women can have trauma and real backstories not centered around men, u misogynistic pile of adskjfhsklhfalkd)  I just feel she’s very well written, and tangible, and powerfully human.  I’d be just as smitten as Sasuke tbh
The last scene is so upsetting… it’s also strangely warming too though.  It’s terrible Sasuke’s been broken down like this, but there’s something about this scene where he feels raw, and expresses his pain in a very infantile way, literally crying out to his mother about how it hurts.  I really feel he’s been stripped of not just his life, but himself, under the weight of Itachi’s death and all that’s come with it, and it makes my heart ache.  I loved this chapter, in all it’s infinite sadness.
Part II
He closed his eyes and thought about his talk with his father earlier, “We’re okay now. He called me while I was with Itachi.”
Love the ease and depth of this single line of dialogue.  How Itachi is not alive but is still with him, and how it speaks to the way we humans grieve and the continuity and strength of relationships even after someone leaves.  It’s just very simple and human, and it popped out at me.
He couldn’t even remember the last time they talked on the phone, or the last time he heard Fugaku as a father, not as the Uchiha patriarch.
Uggghhhhhhh this is exactly how I felt Fugaku was like in canon too.  This fic is just full of brilliance, I really adore the way you describe all the relationships, but the complexity between Sasuke’s and Fugaku’s is really striking to me.  You nail it perfectly.
And this whole intro where Fugaku apologizes to Sasuke and tells him he is proud…. I feel as if a major levee has been broken.  While he’s in front of Itachi’s grave too.  This Sasuke really has that same parallel with the one in canonverse where I feel he is held back by his family trauma, family obligations, the weight of blood.  And this scene feels like a breaking point.  Where Sasuke can be a man instead of an Uchiha, in the same way Fugaku gives him this moment as a father instead of an Uchiha patriarch.  It certainly feels like a cleansing of sorts.
Once you thought you’re over it, one pink-haired beacon of spring will bloom in your eternal winter and blow all your progress into next week. What a woman. He will never find anyone better.
AaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAA !!!! this IS what I mean!!!  His inner thoughts of her ugh….i’m so weak…Sasuke you lovesick fool…. And the return of the beautiful seasons motif.  I love this so much
You can say they were drunk — with liquor, with each other, with love.
I just adore this line. It really emphasizes the vibe of their past relationship and the picture as a whole, and just that electric feeling of being consumed with someone.  The description and cadence of it is just really catching, and I love it
God, this entire scene. Damn, maren.  It’s criminal how well you write the tension of such a casual conversation.  It feels as if an interrogation of sorts is occurring, and yet it’s still a heartwarming kind. Sakura is not vicious or mal-intentioned in inquiries and yet it still leaves Sasuke weak and defenseless if only because of his feelings for her.  There’s so many ways you assert it too.  It’s in every line, every detail.  This one in particular stood out to me:
Sasuke clenched his fist under the table and scoffed, “I hope my mother didn’t tell you how miserable I was.”
'Still am,’ he corrected in his mind. 'How miserable I still am.’
I remember you used this particular tactic when also describing Itachi’s feelings from Sasuke’s POV. (Something along the lines of how he does became how he did because he is gone)  In this fic where time is moving back and forward in a non-linear fashion, these details are especially striking.  Despite the changes and pushes and pull, this one fact is consistent—Sasuke loves Sakura.  And we, as readers, relearn it with every line.
Also I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOvE that Mikoto saw Sakura off, and that there is this undertone of a bond. Like ughhhhh I’ve so been there, where there’s that depth of understanding between women and relationships that men don’t always know about or know how to grapple with it.  My ex resented me for it lmfao
Adkjfasklfalsjdkfakls SASUKE CAN RELATE TO HIM APPARENTLY AHAHAHAAHHA B SNAPPEDDDD I totally get it though, it’s a little intrusive of Sakura to ask for that, but we all also know why she did.  Poor saku bb is in love with this emotionally constipated idiot lmao.  Oh I love the endless pining and miscommunication of it all !!!
“I thought you’d be here,” a voice came and knocked on the closed door of his heart. He turned his face towards it, he saw her and suddenly his doors came opening again.
The winter sun was directly behind her, giving her this eerie glow. Like a nymph; a spring nymph being born in his perpetual winter. He shivered inside.
Back at it again with that seasonal motif !!!! ugh you are killing me.  I also really loved the phrase “knocked on the closed door of his hear.”  You really have such a way with these metaphors and images, it’s so striking and makes the narrative of this piece so brilliant
and silence is a comfortable companion back then. When they became lovers, it was like their platonic third-wheel aside from Naruto.
Ngl I busted out laughing on that one.  “aside from Naruto” hahaaaa I love the way you include him in this fic tbh.  He’s not a very big focus, but he still feels like an integral part of this story, not just as Sasuke’s best friend, but also as another device to unite Sasuke and Sakura.  Also he’s pretty fantastic comic relief, probably just as much for the two of them as for the reader.
I really love the way this convo goes down, and the change of scenery from the coffee shop to the playground.  Considering the way their love at this point is founded in nostalgia (and perhaps something else, but let’s ignore that for a second) it’s so fitting for them to finally stripping away the masks and cloaks and being genuine with one another—Sakura talking about how she knew all along, and Sasuke finally admitting he still loves her.
I also loved that Karin broke off the engagement!!!!!!  And how she did it and how you described it ughghhghg I love this.  You really spoke to her character growth and development in canon too.  It’s trivial compared to everything else that’s going on, but I love it.
…the pink of her hair, the green of her irises and the gold of the sun slowly setting down behind her.
Sasuke couldn’t see her clearly anymore, only the faint glow of her weeping eyes and the halo on her head made by the sun.
You think you’re slick don’t you…you think you’re some kind of mastermind with these subtle references/images…..well guess what bitch….YOU ARE
I looooove how you tied the music back in.  Ugh this departure!!  MY HEART!!! Also I’m seeing a handful of songs I love including OUR BOIIIII !!!! rex orange county uhhghhgjak maren this is the romance of a lifetime I AM WEAK
Ughh the forehead kiss…..that was so sweet.  I loved Sakura’s choice to give him that bit of affection.  This scene is so beautifully intimate, despite their positions.
Omg I FINISHED HOLY SHIT!!! And Sasuke doesn’t get back with her! Wow!  Honestly, as much as my shipper heart is like, violently frothing at the mouth and saying “okay they totally got back together down the line tho like THEY HAD TO THEY ARE MADE FOR EACH OTHER WHAT IS TH—" I actually have such a deep appreciation for this ending.  Their relationship in this almost feels dream-like, and with the way the story unfolds, even if they still loved each other in the end (and I really don’t doubt that they do.  We don’t have Sakura’s perspective, but we also don’t need it.  the affections are clear) it doesn’t mean they will end up together or are even really suited for each other in such a way.
Their love in this actually really reminds me of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.  Have you seen that movie?  I just really get that vibe at the end.  This entire romance cuts very deep and is very passionate and leaves me feeling so whimsical.  I really loved this story, Maren…  thank you for sharing it with all of us.  thank you for writing it.  You’re really one of a kind and you and this story has my whole heart <333
Also I’m sorry this is so late, but when I said I am going to write you a review, what I meant was I am going to write you a review.  This English degree is good for nothing but sending elaborate love letters to friends and writers in the form of literary analyses and stupid overreactions and BY GOD I WILL NOT LET THIS CRIPPLING COLLEGE DEBT GO TO WASTE !!!

[ 365 Days of SasuHina || Day One Hundred Ninety-Nine: Lawnmower ] [ Uchiha Sasuke, Hyūga Hinata, Uzumaki Naruto, Uchiha Mikoto, Uchiha Fugaku ] [ SasuHina ] [ Verse: Best Years of Your Life] [ AO3 Link ]
“So, got any summer plans, Sasuke?”
“Hn...not really.”
“No big trips, orrr...anything?”
“Nope,” the Uchiha replies, leaning his chin in a hand and regarding Naruto boredly. “Just a plain, boring old Summer.”
“Well that’s…” Lips purse. “...dumb.”
“Well what are you going to be doing?”
“My godfather’s taking us to the beach in a few weeks! And I’m thinkin’ about applying for a part-time job!”
“...oh yeah?”
“Yeah! Get some spendin’ money, man! There’s some games coming out this summer I wanna get, and you know my PC’s gonna need some upgrades if I’m gonna be running the new stuff. And I might see about saving up for a better car. I mean, the one I’ve got runs, but...it’s a gas guzzler, man...and it’s a pain to take Sakura anywhere cuz it’s so expensive!”
“Mm.” Mostly tuning the blond’s rambling out, Sasuke instead focuses on one aspect in particular: that being jobs. He hadn’t really considered it, but...that might not be a bad idea. Sasuke gets an allowance for keeping up with his chores, but...well, it’s never a bad thing to pad his pockets a bit, right?
But what would he do…? Surely everyone else is going to have the same idea and snap up any jobs for their age group the minute classes get out for the Summer. Actual employment might not be the way to go about it. Maybe something that he can just...do on his own...but what?
“...sucks cuz I hate mowing the lawn, y’know? It’s so boring and it takes forever...I’d rather do dishes!”
A blink, and then - “...that’s it.”
“Huh?” Naruto perks a brow as the last bell of the day rings out.
“...never mind. Have fun at the beach, huh?”
“That’s not for a few weeks, ya dummy! Weren’t you listening?”
Turning back from the doorway, Sasuke shrugs. “Guess not.”
“You -!”
Stepping out into the hall, Sasuke starts to formulate a plan. He lives in a...fairly decent neighborhood. Nice, but not too nice. Pretty sure nobody has a gardener. Which means less competition. His dad has both a push mower, and a riding lawnmower. Surely Fugaku won’t mind if Sasuke uses them...so long as he doesn’t break them, and makes sure there’s still gas in them when he brings them back. He can put up flyers and advertise. Even if just one household hires him, if they want him to come back once or twice a week, it’ll add up. And, if he does a good job, maybe word will spread and he can pick up more clients that way.
A bit old-fashioned, mowing yards for the Summer, but if no one else wants to do it, he’ll gladly capitalize.
After a pause, he snorts. Maybe Jiraiya will hire him if Naruto gets obstinate enough.
Riding his bike back home, Sasuke stashes it in the garage. His dad won’t be home for a few hours, but he’ll try shooting him a text
[ Hey dad, got a question for you when you’ve got a sec. ]
Waiting for a reply, he moves to the kitchen, raiding the fridge as his mother pours herself a glass of lemonade.
“Hey hun! Finally free for the Summer, huh? That’s exciting!”
“Yup,” he replies, munching into an apple.
“Going to spend some time with your friends now that you won’t be buried under a mountain of homework?”
Scoffing, he jokes, “What friends?”
“Sasuke Uchiha, I swear…”
Grinning, he feels his phone buzz as he heads toward his room.
[ I’m suspicious, but sure. What’s on your mind? ]
Apple in his teeth to free up his hands, Sasuke pushes into his bedroom and types up a reply.
[ Could I use the mowing equipment for a job? Wanna try maybe doing that for some extra cash this Summer. Promise I won’t break anything… ]
Powering on his computer, Sasuke opens up his favorite image editing software. Time to make up those flyers...even if maybe he’s getting a bit ahead of himself. Fugaku hasn’t agreed yet, but...surely he will, right?
[ Taking an entrepreneurial route, eh? Just like your father.  ]
Scoffing at his dad’s teasing, Sasuke just asks, [ So is that a yes, or a no? ]
[ A tentative yes, but you have to do our yard for free. ]
[ I guess I can give you guys a discount. ]
[ Deal. ]
Grinning, Sasuke abandons his phone and keeps working on his ads. He’s not a genius with image editing, but...it looks decent enough. Add a few tabs along the bottom to pull off with his name and number, aaand...print!
A few copies in hand, he calls a temporary goodbye to Mikoto before heading out into the neighborhood, attaching the posters to some telephone poles with a stapler.
And now...all there is to do is...wait!
The first day, no calls...which honestly he expects. The next day...nothing. When four days pass without a peep on his cell (except Naruto being obnoxious…), Sasuke honestly starts to wonder if this was a stupid idea.
Grumpily browsing the net that afternoon, he barely reacts as his phone vibrates. A text. Plucking the mobile from his desk, he opens the message quickly, thinking it has to be the blond again. But...a double take shows no previous messages. This is someone new.
...wait a minute!
Refocusing, he leans over the screen, eyes scanning the message.
[ Hi, my dad saw your ad for lawn mowing? Are you still doing that? ]
A moment passes with a blank stare before scrambling to reply.
[ Yes, I’m still taking jobs. ] It’s not like he has to admit he hasn’t gotten any yet… [ All I need to know is the address and name, and whenever you want me there. It’s 15/hour. ] He mentioned on the flyer, but...well, it doesn’t hurt to remind them.
A few minutes pass in silence, and he assumes this guy must be talking to his dad. Trying not to just sit and stare, he busies himself with his computer again...and then another buzz.
[ Perfect! Is Friday afternoon okay? ]
[ That’ll be great. ]
With that arranged, he receives the address. The dad’s name is Hiashi, and...his name is Hinata?
...wait...that’s a girl’s name, right? It...vaguely rings a bell for some reason…? Oh well, he’ll find out Friday.
That morning, Sasuke loads everything onto the little flatbed trailer, ensuring everything is running okay before heading off. It’s a few blocks north...not too bad, really. Scanning addresses, he pulls to the curb in front of a sizeable white house with a nice front lawn. Seems this is the place.
Hopping out of the truck, he pauses as the front door opens. Rather than a grown man, however...a teenage girl walks down the path toward him, looking a little...apprehensive?
“Hi,” she offers, tucking hair behind an ear shyly. “You’re, uh...you’re Sasuke, right?”
“Yeah. Hinata?”
“Mhm. Sorry, my dad’s not here, he’s...he’s working. But he said to just do...whatever it is you do. I’ve got a signed check, so...I just need to fill it out depending on...how long it takes you…?”
Nodding along, Sasuke fights his foggy memory. She looks...kinda familiar? But he can’t quite place her. “Sounds good. Is it just the front, or…?”
“Oh, no - there’s a back, too. I, um...I went ahead and cleared it all off, so there’s nothing - there’s nothing on the grass.”
“...thanks.”
She gives a flicker of a nervous smile, then...about-faces back toward the house.
Huh...shy little thing.
Deciding on the push mower, Sasuke gets to work, trimming up the green grass and emptying the bagger into huge garbage bags to take and compost. Once he neatens up the edges, it’s into the backyard he goes.
And...wow. It’s...really pretty? There are flowers everywhere, a brick patio coming off the rear door. Trees make some shade and give the yard a bit more character.
Well...no time to gawk. He’s got work to do.
All the while, he doesn’t notice a face peek out every so often through a window upstairs at him.
All in all, it takes him two and a half hours, start to finish. Powering down the mower, he heaves a sigh, arm wiping at his brow.
It’s then the glass sliding door opens, and Hinata reappears. She carefully carries an icy glass of lemonade. “Here…”
A blink. “...thanks.” Taking off his gloves, he accepts the drink and tries not to just rudely down it.
“You...you did a r-really nice job!”
Swallow. “Thanks. You have a pretty yard.”
“Thank you...I take care of all the flowers.”
“Really?”
“Mhm.”
Considering her as she smiles at them, Sasuke decides to just...ask. “Sorry if this is rude, but...do I know you?”
Glancing back to him, she blinks. “I...think we went to the same elementary school…? But I’ve been homeschooled for, um...for a long time now.”
...well that explains it. And at her words, it clicks. “...ohhh, now I remember. You were always stalking after Naruto, right?”
Her cheeks flare red. “I...I was n-not stalking! I was just shy!”
“...uh huh,” he replies, taking another sip.
“...a-anyway, it - it doesn’t matter. I haven’t seen him in...a long time. Just as well, really. He never really liked me.”
“Nah, he was just too preoccupied with Sakura. I dunno if Naruto’s capable of actually disliking someone, honestly.”
In spite of herself, Hinata smiles. “...yeah. He was always, um...a-always very friendly.”
“Almost too friendly at times.”
A light giggle escapes her...and then she stiffens. “Oh, I...I should get you your check…”
“I’m not in any hurry. I don’t have any other jobs today,” Sasuke assures her. “Take your time.”
“Oh...well, would you -? I mean, can you come back next week? You do r-really good work!”
“Thanks. And yeah, I can do that. Should I just...plan on making this a regular thing?”
“Sure! My dad said if you did a good job, he’d have you back. Um…” Making her way in, Hinata just...disappears.
Not sure if he should follow - he’s covered in dust and grass clippings - Sasuke instead moves to wait by the slider until she returns, check in hand.
“Here you go!”
“Thanks.”
“Thank you! And, um...I-I guess I’ll see you next week…?”
...something about her tone and phrasing makes him blink. “...yeah. Was this time okay…?”
“Perfect! A-any time in the afternoon is fine, really. Dad’s at work, and...well, I’ll be here.”
“All right.”
Packing up, Sasuke makes sure everything is secure before moving to get into the cab...then noticing Hinata by the front door. After a pause, he...waves.
...she waves back.
A bit...unsure, he gets in, revving the engine and heading back around toward home. What was that all about…?
...maybe he’ll find out next week.
                                                         .oOo.
Guhhh, late as usual, lol - tired, so I'll keep this short.     Pretty basic idea, and...not quite as fluffy as I'd like, but I guess it works! I think someone's going to enjoy Sasuke working for her all Summer~      Anyway, I gotta head to bed, so...thanks for reading!

[ SasuHinaMonth Day Twenty-Nine: Mafia AU ] [ @sasuhinamonth ] [ Uchiha Sasuke, Uchiha Fugaku, Hyūga Hiashi, Hyūga Hinata ] [ SasuHina ] [ Verse: Best Years of Your Life ]
“Get up. We have somewhere to be.”
Opening an eye to glance at his father from his comfortable perch in a lounge chair, expression tinged with obvious annoyance, Sasuke mutters, “Tch...what?”
“Curb that attitude.” Adjusting his tie, the Uchiha syndicate head examines his reflection before glancing to his son. “...we have a client to visit.”
“What’s that got to do with me?”
“It’s good experience. You’ll have to do this someday.”
The blunt announcement only sours the young man’s attitude further. Being reminded of his brother’s disabilities is never a good thing. “...fine,” he spits in reply. But as he moves to head toward the garage, his father grunts in disapproval.
“We’re taking the helicopter.”
A dark brow perks, but he doesn’t protest. Apparently, they’re to make an impression. Maybe this will be interesting. “...who are we going to see?” It must be someone important, if such a means of transport is to be taken.
“You’ll see.”
They make their way to the manor roof, where the chopper is already whirring. The spinning blades throw his father’s hair askew, his own already a mess on the best of days. Clothes ruffle at the force of the wind until they make their way into the interior. The ground soon lurches away beneath them, and they take to the air.
It’s early evening, the sky beginning to darken as they fly across the city. Skyscrapers and antennae obscure the skyline. Watching the passing sights, Sasuke observes each, wondering where they’ll land. Logos and symbols whizz past, until they begin to circle a pristine white building with windows that reflect the fading sun.
So...it’s the Hyūga. Another large, wealthy family...but through more legitimate means than his own. The Uchiha, after all, are mostly Yakuza. The Hyūga are businessmen. Though, apparently, not without a little underground help.
A few minutes later, they’ve landed, meeting an escort atop the roof. Several pale-eyed men watch them warily, thinly-veiled disgust on their faces. Fugaku largely ignores it - apparently, not everyone in the business approves of their arrangement...whatever it is.
Despite being slated as the next kumichō, Sasuke has yet to be fully introduced to the syndicate’s dealings. Up until recently, it was his brother who was assumed to be the next boss. But an onsetting illness has led to a shift in his father’s favor.
Nothing personal. It’s just how it has to be.
Nonetheless, it’s left Sasuke with some catching up to do. For now, he has almost no idea how exactly they’re tied to the Hyūga. The Uchiha’s main commodity is protection racketing. If he had to guess, that’s likely what’s going on. The Hyūga, apparently, haven’t gotten to be so successful on their own.
This he mulls over as they make their way down via elevator, expression neutral with a tinge of aloofness. Let on that he’s a fledgling, it will only make their meeting all the harder. It’s clear Fugaku has a message to deliver...and this, apparently, is to serve as both a lesson, and a test for his younger son.
Eventually they find themselves outside a set of double doors. One Hyūga makes his way through them, and they can just hear the soft murmur of voices. Then silence...before they’re let inside.
An ornate office is revealed, all sheer glass, cool marble, and cold steel. At a desk at the end of the room sits a man about his father’s age, with the same pale eyes as the others, and a head of long, chestnut hair. He looks to them with an expression as unfeeling as his surroundings. “...Uchiha-san. What a...pleasant surprise.”
Regarding the man with a heavy brow, Fugaku doesn’t return the sentiment. “Your payment is late, Hyūga. I was concerned your memory was starting to suffer. So...I made a little trek across the city to make sure you’re still in your right senses.”
Pale, thin fingers steeple, elbows atop the glass top of his desk. “...my memory fares fine. My stocks, however, do not. I am yet short of the monthly agreement. I have been assured that, within the week, this...oversight will be corrected.”
Drawing a deep breath, Fugaku releases it as an equally-deep sigh. His chin bows to his chest, making a show of his disappointment.
The other Hyūga shift, clearly unnerved.
“...that’s too bad. A company needs to run like a well-oiled clock. Lost time sets you back...and needs to be corrected.”
There’s a slight clench to Hiashi’s jaw. “...no one realizes this more than me. I assure you, Uchiha-san, that I will -”
“Time is money, and money buys time. If you lack one, you lack the other...and I can’t afford to waste mine. I know of other rising companies in your field that might respect schedules a bit better, Hyūga. I don’t deal with those who can’t keep their ends of our bargains. Need I remind you what you owe me?”
“...that will not be necessary.”
“How is she, by the way? Your girl? What was her name...Hanako...Hiromi…”
“Hinata. She is fine.”
“Ah, good...good. No more incidents with the other syndicates?”
“...I feel you are alluding to something, Uchiha-san.”
“You have to care for family, Hyūga. You never know when it might...disappear.”
Sasuke’s eyes shift to their corners. What is he getting at…?
“...your retrieval of my daughter from the Kumo faction of Hokkaidō is still much appreciated, Uchiha-san. But that is not all I pay you for.”
“No, it’s not. You pay for protection, Hyūga. Assurance that those who would compete with you meet...unfortunate pitfalls that drop them out of the economic running. Failing negotiations, lost funds...and the occasional disappearance of important personnel. But...I can’t provide my services if you don’t provide the money. A week’s delay in my business could be a week spent acquiring new clients. Clients who, incidentally, might force my hand to begin taking from you, instead. And surely...neither of us want that. But money talks, Hiashi. So...can I expect my money by midnight? Or should I go ahead with my arranged meeting with another medical equipment manufacturer I have scheduled for tomorrow morning at nine am?”
A tense silence falls.
“...tell me, Hiashi…” Fugaku’s dark eyes stare into the Hyūga’s pale ones. “...when was the last time you checked in on your daughter…?”
No reply.
“Those socialite friends of hers surely keep her up late...but I’d hope she gets home by midnight. The city’s a scary place at night.” With that, the kumichō turns his back on his client, making his way to the door with a nod to his son. “...keep my advice in mind, Hyūga. I recommend getting your schedule back in order. I, at least, plan to stick to mine.”
Sasuke follows as his father returns to the elevator. No Hyūga bother to show them the way back. The blades spin as they make their way to the roof.
“So...learn anything?”
“...I think so. But what was all the fuss about the girl?”
Fugaku only replies once they’re in the chopper. “...when she was young, very young...an up-and-coming faction in the north kidnapped his daughter, intended to hold her for ransom. This was during the early days of our arrangement. As a show of good faith, I sent one of our boys to retrieve her, and it went off without a hitch...unless you count his twin brother dying in the raid. Fool went in to try and negotiate. Things got dicey, and he ended up a casualty. Not that it mattered - Hiashi was more concerned about keeping the company in his family, so a dead brother was actually preferable to a dead daughter. Hizashi, his twin, has a son. A bit more appealing to a board of trustees, but...he’s less direct now than Hizashi would have been.” The Uchiha smirks. “...a handy bargaining tool. Hiashi has one other daughter, but she’s less appealing - headstrong, brash...already has a questionable public image. A board would rather have Hinata, who’s meek and easy to manipulate.”
“...and…?”
“...and she may be joining us for dinner while her father arranges his monetary affairs tonight.”
Sasuke blinks. His father certainly knows how to keep all the cards...something he’d best learn quick.
When they return, they descend to the entryway. There, flanked by two burly Uchiha, is the young woman in question. Despite the tinge of fear in her eyes, she holds herself steady, head held high.
“...Hyūga Hinata-san,” Fugaku rumbles. “...a pleasure to see you. How you’ve grown since we last met.”
She gives no reply.
“Don’t worry - I expect you’ll be back home within a matter of hours. Your father just needed a little...motivation to get his work done tonight. Until then, you’re my guest. I’d never dare harm a lady, no matter her father’s behavior. Please...I’m sure dinner is ready by now.” Fugaku gestures. “I doubt you remember my son, Sasuke. You were both fairly small when we brought you back from Hokkaidō. He’s done his share of growing up, too.”
Her pale eyes move to him, and the pair study one another silently. He’ll admit...she’s pretty. Not overly done-up like so many women her age tend to be...yet elegant. And despite her obvious nerves...it’s clear there’s a fire there.
Even if neither of their fathers seem to see it.
“Come - we can’t let the meal get cold.” Fugaku motions for them to follow.
Giving her companions a glance, Hinata moves forward without them, instead positioning herself beside Sasuke.
“...best do what the old man says. Consider it a break in what’s certainly your life’s monotony.”
At that, she gives him a questioning look...but doesn’t refute him.
“After all, how often do you get to dine with the head of mafia and not have to fear for your life?”
Word count: 1650      Cumulative: 39,436      This was actually a lot more fun to write than I thought it would be xD Admittedly, I know very little about the Yakuza, so...I scoured the Wikipedia page about them, and...did my best, lol      Sadly I don’t have a verse for this, so this one is the closest I have. Though this might be one I revisit with this and other characters. We’ll see! But for now, this is all I’ve got in me for tonight. I want to do the last two all tomorrow, but I don’t know if I’ll have the time. Either way, I’ll do my best to finish up the last two prompts as quickly as I can manage!      For now, later y’all!

NRT+SW: That We Answer To Our Stars
Just remember that you people asked for this and if I end up posting a story concept that you love and want to see as a fic? Be well aware that all of these outlines only have one thing in common:
I HAVEN’T WRITTEN A SINGLE SCENE FOR THEM.
Which means I won’t be turning them into fic for a year at least so... *handwaves* Encourage me IRT your favourite WIP of mine, because finishing one of those will clear up space in the docket for a new story to get some attention.
Now, these outlines can get kinda disjointed but at least you’ll get to see a bit of how my brain works when I plot out stories.
THE SCENE!
>Kaguya’s multiverse trip goes wonky b/c best crossover fodder scene
>Uchiha Clan dumped wholesale on Rim World/Wild Space World in SW’verse. All the Uchiha Clan. All the Uchiha since ever.
->World is XL planetoid version of TG44, with added biome options b/c YOLO (unless you’re in the Uchiha Clan I guess b/c then you get to Live All The Times?)
>Indra, Madara, and Sasuke separate ppl w/ wiggy chakra resonance. V disorienting.
->Ninshu gets Dialled Up To Eleven = Force Bonds! Force Bonds everywhere!
-->Entire Clan gets Highlights Reel of Historically Important Memories (also so much purposely induced trauma wow WTF.)
--->Mass Meditation required to untangle/unfuck heads
>Entire Clan now Force Sensitive BTW
->WTF w/ crazy Nature Chakra infesting everyone? Uchiha are Not Pleased.
-->Upside: Force Bonds/Ninshu Super Connection can be used to awaken Sharingan w/out Psyche Destroying Trauma so yay for that
>All Uchiha now have Kaguya’s est. life span. Also nubbin horns and forehead sensory organ b/c aliens are a SW thing I can do this now (don't know if want full-on third eye or just funky Clan Marking thing? Hm...)
THE PLOT THICKENS/ACTUALLY STARTS BEING A THING!
>Sep. forces land on new Uchiha Homeworld b/c shenanigans and The Force Likes To Meddle
->Sasuke introduces said forces to Kirin b/c is reminded of T7 mission to Land of Iron? Or Snow? Dunno which but Naruto’verse says machines = bad juju so Sasuke is 100% justified ok thanks.
>212th follows. Obi-wan is v concerned by the Uchiha
->Entire Pop. of Planet is FS WTF is this nonsense?
-->Clones v impressed at least. Free-range jedi are badass why were they not informed of this being an option? (Clones made for jedi = have a hard time leaving GAR b/c existential dissonance when no jedi for retired soldiers? Also Kamino sucks and slavery sucks more but now the Clones who don’t want to be soldiers or recycled can Take A Third Option! So much Clone chatter about the Uchiha thing wow.)
>Madara is sent to be Senator b/c Jedi are Very Insistent that this Planet be part of the Republic.
->Madara terrifies all the politicians b/c Uchiha Hate Politics (they're too blunt and the see too much) but Madara is best at it v good at lying without saying anything untrue.
-->Madara knows Palpatine is skeevy b/c Uchiha See All The Things and You Can’t Fool Me With Such A Weak Illusion, Foolish Human and now there are clashing manipulators and Your Attachments Make You Weak and this is going to get out of hand so quickly I just know it.
>Sasuke is apparently still best Prophecy Child Bait and Anakin is Conflicted b/c how can he be attracted to someone not Padme?
->501st would like to adopt b/c last time Anakin fucked off without backup Sasuke came back 5 minutes later with Anakin hogtied over his shoulder and the Seppie base on fire. Sasuke is so unimpressed b/c That’s Not How You Infiltrate Enemy Lines, You Moron
-->Sasuke is still 100% going to seduce Anakin and Padme b/c his life is Not Complete without an Idiot to yell at and a Crazy Berserker who likes to pretend she’s The Sane One to ride herd on.
--->Obi-wan is Done With All Of Them b/c Sasuke isn’t even pretending to try and hide his intentions b/c if they get fired Sasuke can just take them back home for a proper marriage. Mikoto is So Proud of her boy.
>Madara and Mace have ‘sip and bitch’ IRT Palpatine being an evil fucker
->At some point Madara will wonder out loud what Palpatine is grooming Anakin for? Mace is Concerned by this revelation. Madera is not.
-->Sasuke had Issues IRT not sharing well with other children. BTW Mace Sasuke is planning to steal away Anakin and marry him. Don’t worry he will be returned eventually and so will his wife.
--->Mace thinks Anakin had it coming. WTF was the boy thinking? Did he really think he could hide anything from a temple containing several thousand telempaths? Jedi can get married, it’s just considered polite to ask first and go through the counselling with the Mind Healers beforehand. (Idea! Coruscaunti Jedi treat marriage the same way the Japanese treat Gun Control. Lots of paperwork and regular mandatory psyche evaluations and pervasive low-key terror at the idea of having one.)
->Madara will hear the “too much fear in him” story and cackles
-->Slaves have to please their Masters to survive. Anakin was freed to be a Jedi so if not a Jedi then he’s a slave again? No Fear = Be A Jedi (Not A Slave) and now Anakin is The Hero With No Fear
--->Therefore everything the Council dislikes about how Anakin acts was initialized by the Council. Mace hates Irony so much. Madara is still cackling in his face.
->Madara wants the aged out Initiates who still want to fight (or even just the Initiates who don’t suit the Jedi lifestyle)
-->He has a Clan to maintain! About 25% of the Uchiha never fell in love or fell in love with non-Uchiha so they need Marriage Options. (Uchiha don’t fall out of love easily either so new potential spouses need to be Impressive As Fuck and the jedi know how to be Impressive.)
--->Species doesn’t actually matter Uchiha’s Forest of Death planet has lots of different options despite being mostly Giant Fuck-Off Trees and the higher your Force Sensitivity the higher your chances are for successful cross-species hybrids. (Madara is planning to keep Obito and Itachi away from the aquatic species for a while b/c they have a concerning fondness for fishes.) Hybrids are viable though b/c The Force loves grand babies.
>Izuna is there as Madara’s Security Chief and he’s having Far Too Much Fun getting to be paranoid for a living. Plus all sorts of time to spend with his wife! (Need to pick name and develop Izuna’s wife beyond terrifying DFAB genderfluid interrogation specialist but at least they’re happy together.)
->Izunami (Izuna’s daughter) and Kagami are tiny children again b/c weird cross-dimensional space-time fuckery is like that
-->Shisui is super amused to be ‘older’ than his grandfather.
->Kagami approves mightily of Madara-shishou’s friendship with Mace (reminds him of Tobirama-sensei!)
->Izunami is 100% in favour of actually getting to ‘grow up’ with her Mom and Dad around this time (although she only really listens to Madara b/c he was her Parental Authority Figure and old habits don’t break) Jedi actually find this comforting b/c even if Uchiha crazy about attachments there are familiar bits there in how they arrange instruction even if the three students at a time thing is weird.
-->Both Izunami and Kagami are So Relieved that their Spouse is the same age as them b/c while they would be willing to wait until the other grew up this is much less creepy.
>Speaking of age fuckery Itachi is smol now and just about permanently leashed to Mikoto’s side.
->Sasuke is v amused b/c Aniki deserves this.
-->Mikoto and Fugaku are the first Uchiha couple to make a new baby and it’s Sarada b/c she’s the only good thing about the Next Gen (Except for Snake Fam but they aren’t a part of this fic boo)
>Obito is Madara’s primary assistant b/c some of the Uchiha are Not Over the whole Killing Us All Off thing.
->Obito runs into Quinlan Vos. Results are hilarious.
-->Brainwashing to the Dark Side ep. goes v differently. (Need to re-watch this ep for details but yes) Obito will rampage over everything b/c dude has No Chill
>Shisui is v jealous of his relatives b/c Itachi is too smol to play with and also has been hijacked by Isami (who will hold her death over Itachi for the rest of forever but again Uchiha don’t really fall out of love so she’s also learning Itachi wrangling skills from Mikoto now.)
->Everyone else is finding Jedi favourites and Shisui misses his ANBU team b/c it’s not like he really had time to make any other friends
-->Sulking Shisui trips over Feemor while waiting for Madara. Apparently Uchiha and Yoda’s Lineage have A Type.
>BIG PLOT POINT: Uchiha Remember
->’Curse of Hatred’ spun by Madara as ‘plague’ caused by ‘non-native invasive plants’ (Blames it all on Zetsu and says plant was toxic to non-Uchiha) Says is why there are no non-Uchiha in TG44′s population despite stories otherwise.
>Uchiha think the Jedi Code is silly but the Clones are the Best Thing. All Clones look different to FS/Sharingan
>Uchiha have a habit of “stealing” spouses.
->BTW Shisui has No Patience
-->Upside: Feemor is v flattered by the attention and TG44 has a v interesting ecosystem. TF is in everything on this planet like WTF how does this work?
->Kagami is So Proud. Look at his Grandson, so proactive.
-->Starts to ‘hint’ that maybe Madara-shishou should think about settling down.
-->Mace has been meditating and consulting with the other Masters of the Order.
--->War changes everyone. Plus certain contracts between the Jedi Order and the Senate have been voided by the drafting of Jedi Generals. (Look up the details of the Ruusan Reformation for more info on disbandment of Jedi Military Powers and what it means when Senate gives them back the right to raise levy forces.)
-->Jedi don’t need to look harmless anymore just need to look less dangerous than the Seppies and the Sith.
>Uchiha Clan FB keep any of them from Falling to the Dark Side.
->Sasuke finally gets his hooks in Anakin and Padme. Notices the ‘nightmare vision’ problem first time he sleeps over.
-->Kidnaps Obi-wan to ‘repair’ the stress fracture in Anakin’s only familial FB b/c having his partner be so alone in his head is creeping Sasuke out and it’d only get worse if the bond to Obi-wan breaks completely.
--->Obi-wan is too tired to even object and now Anakin is freaking out b/c he’d been so focused on Padme maybe-dying in childbirth that he hadn’t even noticed how sick his Master looks.
---->Oh and also there is a Sith Energy Parasite attached to Anakin’s FS and it’s been poisoning his bonds. Sasuke just facepalms while the Jedi have panic attacks and drags in the genjutsu expert hostile deprogramming specialists.
----->Upside: Uchiha now know what Sith Master’s chakra signature is and can hunt him properly. Also help Mind Healers check all Jedi for similar problems, starting with Active Duty Generals. My the Council Chambers look so much Lighter now.
>Then some stuff happens where Palpatine is exposed as the Sith Master and there are explosions.
>Plot Twist is that Madara and Mace have been banging and rewriting the Jedi Code of conduct since like their third date and no one picked up on it.
->Mace: *stares Anakin in the eyes* And that’s how you hide an affair, Skywalker.
*jazz hands* And this is how my fics look before I start writing them.

[ 365 Days of SasuHina || Day One Hundred Eighty-Nine: The Cost of ___ ] [ Uchiha Sasuke, Hyūga Hinata, Uchiha Fugaku, Uchiha Itachi, Suigin Ryū ] [ SasuHina ] [ Verse: River Runs Deep ] [ AO3 Link ]
The waiting is agony.
Three days have passed now, and still no word from the miko woman in the foggy mountain valley. That strange, ethereal place Sasuke still isn’t entirely sure is real...or just a figment of his imagination conjured up by the mists.
But there’s little faking the memory of the god that stared him down...and the quickening of his heartbeat when it resurfaces in his mind. It was real...it had to be…!
Especially if it may be the respite his family is seeking...and the way to heal his brother’s illness at last.
For now, the Uchiha - on the run after their lord submitted to their enemies - are camped in the foothills beyond the northern mountains. So far, the range has served as the perfect barrier between them, and the mercenaries surely on their tail. After all, their pledged loyalty to a man no longer in power is a death sentence. Those who now claim their lands will want to ensure they never try to take them back.
The first trek was treacherous - these mountains are unforgiving. Steep, filled with loose stones that will slip you to your death, and roots of mighty trees that threaten to catch your foot and snap an ankle...or that of your horse.
It was that last night when Sasuke found himself separated from his clan...and instead wandered into the strange valley between the planes of men and gods.
...and it was there he met the white-eyed miko, Hinata: she who can see into both worlds, and who serves the god that watches over the valley.
A valley Sasuke is sure will be the perfect refuge for his people...if only the goddess agrees.
She claims it to be a haven for those abandoned by the mortal and the divine. A place where the humans she has claimed as her own reside in peace, hidden from the world that turned its back on them. Surely his family - abandoned by those they served - are just as lost and turned away.
...but they are many. A few dozen, ranging from elders to children. Would the god be so willing to take so many? Will she only allow a chosen few?
...what will he do if she refuses?
For now, he tries not to think about it: instead, Sasuke buries himself into his work around the Uchiha camp: gathering wood for fires, joining hunting parties, tending to their gear. They must be ready at a moment’s notice to flee. Even here, where they’ve felt safe for the first time since leaving their homes behind...they cannot rest. Not truly.
And that always brings him back full circle to the thoughts that plague him.
But most of all...he worries for his brother.
He told Itachi what he found. About the village, the miko, the goddess. How she is claimed to be a spirit that heals. How she may be his last chance to be whole again, ravaged by some unknown illness. There’d been a glimmer of hope in his brother’s eyes, but...it quickly tempered with caution. They’ve all lost much...and cannot put much stock in faith. Only the tangible is what they can believe in, now.
Dressed only in his trousers as he goes through a set of kata one morning, Sasuke stills at a whisper of sound. He’s alone a ways from the camp, wanting quiet to focus. And within it, he hears the telltale sound of a bird’s wings.
From the fog, like a ghost, swoops a white owl. Golden eyes seem to pierce him, landing on a nearby branch with a quiet rasp.
Tied to a leg is a scroll of parchment.
Heart in his threat, Sasuke approaches, wary of the avian’s talons. “Easy,” he coaxes, gently easing the message from its leg.
O-Suigin-sama will grant your people passage...but you must pay a price upon your arrival. Be prepared. Follow the messenger.
He reads the message again, and again. Pay a price…? What kind of price? The vague warning leaves him wary. While he’d gladly pay anything for his people’s safety, his brother’s health...what if the god demands something he’s unable to give?
Lost in thought, he then looks to the owl, who still stares. “...wait here,” he offers, unsure if it understands.
But then again, this is a goddess’ messenger. Surely it’s no ordinary owl.
Taking the parchment, Sasuke strides back to camp and straight to his father’s tent. Thankfully he’s in, alongside his brother.
Perfect.
“Otōsama,” he offers, kneeling and leaning in a bow.
“Yes?”
“I have good news.”
Dark brows furrow, clearly confused. “...regarding what, my son?”
“Our future. I know of a place where we will be safe from our pursuers. For good.”
...a long pause blooms. “...where?”
“Here, in the mountains. I found it during my travels.”
“Then why wait until now to speak?”
“...because it was not my decision to make.”
Fugaku frowns further. “...speak plainly, my boy. Who else must you consider?”
Well...it’s now or never. “...the god that watches over the valley I found.”
Disbelief quickly tempers his father’s face. “...a god? You believe in such things?”
“I believe my flesh that felt the rain of her fury, my eyes that saw her writhing form, and my heart that quaked in fear. There was no mistaking it, otōsama. That creature was divine. Spoke to me. It’s she who considered my plea for our safety, and her protection. I just received word...she’s agreed to let us go. But there is a price.”
“...what?”
“...I don’t yet know. She’s to name it.”
The patriarch scoffs. “...fairy tales…”
“Otōsama,” Itachi gently interjects. “...I believe him. Sasuke is logical, level-headed. He would not fall for any tricks or deceit. If he believes this to be true...then so do I.”
“The gods abandoned us long ago, when we abandoned them,” Fugaku insists. “Why would one help us now?”
“Her path is of healing, protection,” Sasuke explains. “She takes in humans who have been abandoned by men and gods. Keeps them. Her miko spoke to me, told me of her past. She was one of them, blessed with eyes that see beyond the mortal plane. It was she who helped me. Please...at least go with me to speak to her. See it all for yourself!”
“I cannot leave my people on such a whim.”
“This may be our last chance for peace, otōsama…! Those who hunt us could never find us there! And if they should, a god would protect us. She may even heal Itachi’s sickness! If for nothing else...I beg you to believe for his sake. Come with me. Meet the people of the valley. See for yourself.”
The Uchiha leader folds his arms across his barrel chest, head declined to think. “...very well. You have three days of my time. Until then, Shisui shall take the mantle. Itachi, you -”
“I wish to go along.”
“Impossible,” Fugaku insists.
“I’ve come this far, otōsama. Please, I can do this. I wish to see this place for myself.”
Indecision wavers over his face before slackening with concession. “...I suppose I cannot stop you. And how are we to find this -?”
Through the flap of the tent glides the owl, earning a startle from the three men. Landing atop Sasuke’s shoulder, it gives another gentle cry.
“...this is what brought me the news,” Sasuke offers. “I was told to follow it.”
“...I don’t like this,” Fugaku admits. “But...if you insist, we will go. I will speak to Shisui, and...we will avoid telling your mother. She’d have my hide if she knew I dragged you both back into those peaks.”
Shisui agrees to the post, not asking for a reason when Fugaku offers no explanation. Instead, the three take up packs...and make to follow their feathered guide.
Up into the range they travel, slow going as Itachi fights his breath. As the sun nears setting, and the danger of falling increases, Sasuke can’t help but mutter, “Are we close?”
In response, the owl gives a cry, disappearing over a rise. As the trio crest it behind them, they see the valley at last.
The village at the southern tip is already alight for the night, lights twinkling between the dense foliage of the forest between the peaks. The river is a streak of black, and Sasuke can just make out the vermillion gate he’d passed through before.
A smudge of white beneath it lifts his heart to his throat.
...it’s the miko.
Descending carefully as the light fades, they follow the path to the gate. Hinata watches, hands in her sleeves as white eyes seem to stare through them. “...your family?” she asks Sasuke quietly.
“Part of it. My father, and my elder brother Uchiha Fugaku and Itachi.”
“Hyūga Hinata,” she offers in greeting, bowing deeply. A hand then lifts, passing through the gate toward them.
The familiar rumble makes Sasuke’s hair stand on end.
A great cloud of steam erupts along the eastern ridge, tumbling down to the valley floor. Like a snake it approaches, dissipating only as it reaches the gate. With a gust of breeze, the vapor is carried off, and the dragon god is revealed.
Fugaku stares, wide-eyed. Beside his brother, Itachi half-crumples, held aloft as Sasuke’s arm finds his waist.
“...you came,” the spirit murmurs.
“...I must,” is the younger brother’s honest, quiet reply. “As your miko likely told you...I am desperate.”
“...and are you willing to pay the cost of safety?”
“I’ll do anything for my family...my clan.”
She blows steam from her slender nostrils. “...know this. Those who claim this valley as their own can never leave. For their own safety…and for the others’. This place...cannot be revealed to those beyond its borders. I have put my faith in you, Uchiha Sasuke...but I will not do so again. If you come...you must stay. You will be free of your enemies...but will lose freedom of another kind. Is this truly what you want…?”
At that, Sasuke glances to his father. “...your thoughts?”
“...what is this place…?” Fugaku whispers.
“A refuge for those rejected by their fellow man, and the gods. The haven of the lost, the forgotten, the abandoned and the seeking. Those considered broken, unfit, unclean by both planes. I bring them here to live out their days in safety and peace. Generations of humans have lived under my protection since I took the first. They are my own.”
“...what is the price?” Itachi dares to ask.
The god’s silver eyes seem to glow, staring at Sasuke earnestly. “...for your kin, their safety, their happiness...will you lay down your life, Uchiha Sasuke?”
Immediately, he feels Itachi tense. “No!”
Fugaku, too, refutes the trade. “I’ll not give up my son!”
“...this isn’t your decision,” Sasuke murmurs.
“But -!”
“I’ll do it.”
For a long moment, the dragon stares, and Sasuke can almost feel her gazing into his very being. What she’s looking for...he can’t begin to know. But time seems to lose meaning as they lock eyes, Sasuke refusing to look away. If this is what it takes for his clan to be happy, to be at peace evermore...he’ll not hesitate. Not for a moment.
“...you are true to your word.” Relaxing her stance, the spirit seems to...soften. “I will not take your life.”
“...but -?”
“It was your resolve I sought to test: your mettle. I had to know if your determination was as firm as you claimed. To agree to the ultimate sacrifice for those you care for...is the greatest mark of a pure soul. I therefore accept you into the valley...and all those you deem worthy in your blood.”
For a moment, he just...stands, a bit off-kilter. But as the reality sinks in, he wilts in relief. “...thank you.”
“It will take much, I imagine, to make this move...and surely you must discuss it with your kin. Some may yet refuse...as is their right. But those who agree shall be granted passage, and guided by the owls. Return when you are ready.”
“O-Suigin-sama...may I yet beg a favor before then?”
Curiosity lights the god’s eyes. “...speak.”
“My brother, as I’m sure you can sense...he is gravely ill. Is it possible to cure him?”
Her gaze shifts to Itachi, who stiffens. “...I can try. But I believe my truth is grating for him. I will...adapt.” Vapor billows, obscuring the serpent as the men raise arms against the warm, wet air.
When it clears, there’s no longer a dragon...but a woman. Just as austere in her air, and inhumanly elegant, she steps up to the elder brother. Silvers flicker over his face. “...he should remain here. The journey is surely stressful. I will begin work on tending to him as you return and speak to your kin.”
Fugaku seems to want to speak, but...slackens with understanding. “...he will be safe?”
“There is no safer place,” the god assures them...and gods cannot lie.
“...I’ll be all right,” Itachi murmurs. “Go speak to the others.”
After a moment’s hesitation, the patriarch nods. “...very well.”
“The owls will find you when you are ready to return,” Hinata offers, and Sasuke jumps - he’d almost forgotten she was there. “I will be here to meet you.”
“...thank you,” he offers softly, watching as Suigin takes his brother back toward the village. “I know this was your doing.”
Her head shakes with a soft smile. “No...it was you and your actions - your cause - that convinced O-Suigin-sama to agree. I approached her, but...it was your merit she judged.” Hinata considers him carefully. “...she’s found you suitable. You surely have a good heart.”
“...I don’t know about that...but I’ll do anything for my clan.”
For a moment, a bittersweet smile flickers over her face. “...a noble trait. You will rest here for the night, and return in the morning as before. I will send the owls when you are ready.”
“How will you know?”
Her smile turns knowing. “...I am O-Suigin-sama’s eyes...remember? When you are ready...I will know.”
Sasuke has to repress a shiver, moving to follow alongside his father as Hinata leads them further into the valley. Giving the man a glance, Sasuke frowns at his expression. “...is something wrong?”
Fugaku considers their guide almost...suspiciously. “...we’ll speak later.”
...worry blooms in Sasuke’s gut. But for now, there’s no time - or privacy - to speak.
And they’ll have plenty to discuss tomorrow.
                                                        .oOo.
Woo, more kami verse! I've missed this one, tbh - haven't written it since 165! (and before that we've got 60, 77, and 140, for anyone wanting to go back and read what came before this!)      Seems Sasuke is adjusting to all these magical, godly shenanigans! I think he's just reached a point where he's like, "Let's just do this"...even if that means possibly dying! Canon!Sasuke obviously has a very strong connection to his clan I want to portray here, hence him not even hesitating: he'd do anything for them. Anything.      I promise there'll be more actual SH interaction the next time I pop back into this verse xD Just gotta do plot stuffs~ Speaking of which...what was Fugaku thinking, squinting at Hinata's back like that...? Guess we'll have to wait and see! :3c      Anywho, it's late, as usual, so time for me to head to bed! Thanks for reading n_n
