I don't think he really cried for his mother after her death, a mixture of shock and starvation making him too numb to deal with it at the time. This is probably when he finally got to mourn for her. That teacup was the last bit of her existence other than himself, the only thing he has of her besides memories, and it shattered to pieces in his little hands. You know he just cried and cried

Kuchel looks so frail and small, like she's just skin on bones. Their clothes look filthy and torn, but she looks happy despite this, just looking at her son. The way the sunlight is spilling down onto them from below, you can tell this is a warm memory for Levi.
The same spot years later feels empty and cold in comparison. There's no warmth, no sunlight. No mom :(((

So now a lot of mysteries are solved.....
He loves tea so much because it's the only thing that reminds him of his mother. He used to watch his mother making tea and those were the sweetest memories of him with her.
Though Kuchel used to take tea so she will be able to avoid unwanted pregnancy, when Levi asked her why she loves tea so much, she told Levi that it is necessary to have class to drink tea properly.
Levi promised his mother that he will one day open a tea shop for her where she'll be able to work and that they'll both get out of the underground.
And then a customer arrives and Kuchel quickly hides Levi because she doesn't want to show his son what a prostitute's job is. Where she hid Levi, that place was dirty and unhygienic. The reason why Levi is so obsessed with cleanliness.
And when a customer discovers Levi, Kuchel tries to save Levi by pointing a knife at the man. But that man easily overpowers her, beats her up to the ground horribly and leaves while saying terrible things about Levi.
After Kuchel's death, Kuchel's cup was taken to sell off. And Levi tried to steal it because that was the only thing he had that belonged to her mother. Levi got caught and got attacked by the thugs and while they were beating him up he awakened his power. (Picture 1)
That day Kenny left after realising Levi had gotten his Ackerman abilities. So with a broken heart, after returning home he tries to make tea for the first time, remembering how his mother used to make it. (Picture 2)
But after making it when he was about to take the first sip... The cup broke....
The cup broke which was the only thing that he had which belonged to his mother. You all can see his reaction after that. (Picture 3)
And in the last picture.... The light is gone because Kuchel is gone.... Who was the only light in Levi's life....
Now, am I crying over a 2D man? Hell yes I'm... Because I can't just take how much pain he had to bear.... I can't....

The fact that some of these “Levi fans” are more relieved to see a lack of romantic/sexual relation in Levi's past from Bad Boy leaks rather than focusing on the hardships he went through as a character to become who he became over the years both post Underground and post rumbling and appreciating his character all the more for it, is so incredibly dumbfounding to me.
Who gives a flying fuck if Levi were straight, gay, bi, pan, poly, ace, aro, etc. His performance(s) as a character have never once revolved around bedroom activities or a sexual stance. We as fans are absolutely free to headcannon who he might have been/who he is in the bedroom all we want, and there should be no shame in that!! Period!! What I do find shame in, however, is watering down a beautifully written character to something as basic as how one determines he might be in a sexual setting and claiming it to be canon, when such a thing has never been determined, and then dragging fellow fans for having a simple headcannons about how they personally view them.
His sexuality does not determine his worth.
Do better y’all. Hope you get better soon.
