tag games ♡
tagged by the lovely @hanae-ichihara! thank you so much for tagging me stephanie this was so much fun to do! 🥰
let’s get to know our animanga fandom mutuals/followers better? 💕
01. how did you find out about anime? well, honestly when i was seven-eight years old, i used to see my uncle watch anime and at the time i didn’t know what anime was, but i remember him seeing dragon ball z, naruto, death note, and more! every time i saw him watch dragon ball i would’ve just sat next to him without knowing what’s happening lol ,, until one day i started watching naruto with him, but then i moved to the usa and continued watching the show by myself and that became my first anime that i‘ve ever watched! keep in mind that i didn’t even know what fillers were so, yes i did watched all 720 episodes of naruto plus the movies lmao
02. what’s your favorite anime? naruto, attack on titan, nana, death note, jojo’s bizarre adventure, orange, horimiya
03. do you have a favorite j-music/k-pop group/singer? i don’t really have any favorites but if i have to pick a k-pop group probably enhypen and j-music singer probably LiSA! <3
04. when is your bday? and how old are you? may 2 , 15 years old :’)
05. currently, what is your favorite fandom anime? attack on titan! the anime is currently airing and in super hyped for everything, i know demon slayer just ended not that long ago but omg everything about the second season was amazing and the animation was top tier! my dress up darling as well! im honestly enjoying the anime a lot too <3 <3
06. despite the ups and downs on tumblr, what motivates you to stay here today and do your best? i’ve been on tumblr for a year and a half now! i don’t know how tumblr was back then but i genially like staying here because i can talk about things i like aka anime lol,, and seeing people enjoy it so much is honestly really fun! not just that but the fan blogs there is for different anime and seeing people share their edits and talent is just incredible! i'm not a content creator but, i will say that i can see all the efforts my mutuals take to make their edits and it’s always beautiful! so i want to say a huge thank you for all content creators because they deserve all the credits for everything they do! 💕

Zutara Fan Creator Interviews: Emily (@fictionissocialinquiry)
Hey everyone! We hope you’re all excited for ZFAW, and to   honor (ha!) ZFAW’s commitment to supporting and celebrating fan content creators in the Zutara fandom, we’re going to be rolling out a series of interviews with well-known and widely-beloved content creators over the next few weeks. We’ve got artists and fanfiction authors, some names you recognize as well as a few phenomenal up-and-coming talents, and we can’t wait for you to meet them all!
First up, we have fanfiction author @fictionissocialinquiry, aka Emily, the author of “Rumour Has It” and “Mending Wounds.”
You can find her works on AO3 here: https://archiveofourown.org/users/FictionIsSocialInquiry/pseuds/FictionIsSocialInquiry
INTERVIEW TIME!
1. Tell us about how you came to ship Zutara! What does this ship mean to you?
I watched AtLA as a kid/teenager but it wasn’t until a long hospital stint gave me the time to rewatch it as an adult and be wowed all over again! I started getting more into practicing writing and couldn’t get the symbolism behind Zuko and Katara’s characters out of my head. They have a really interesting tension that I love to explore and that helped me practice a dynamic I wanted to write about in my original fiction. This ship has helped me become a better writer!
2. What inspires you to create Zutara fanworks?
The nostalgia I have for AtLA. I was obsessed with it as a kid but there’s a different appreciation as an adult. I love creating stories that make people freak out and get emotional and spam me with their thoughts and feelings. I’ve had some amazing conversations with folks about things going on in their own lives that are playing out in the story— that stuff just makes my day! Feedback on new things you try out in your writing is why I keep coming back haha!
3. Be selfish— if you could request one fanwork based on your own art/fanfic, what would it be? What would you absolutely love to see someone create?
Oh lord… like anything? Haha! I recently discovered podfics and would be 300% stoked if someone turned Rumour Has It into a podfic or drew a scene from that story. RHI is my favourite completed story of any fanwork I’ve ever written so to be able to listen to it or see art of it would be a GIFT!
4. Any words for people who are new to the fandom and/or nervous about sharing their work for the first time?
It’s okay to be nervous but its not okay to let the nerves hold you back! They always make it feel worse than it actually is. I dreaded posting for so many reasons with my first stories but once I did, it turned out not nearly as bad as I thought. Fake it til you make it with your confidence is an adage that really helped me.
5. What’s an idea for a fanwork that you have but haven’t gotten around to making?
I’ve been workshopping a dark!verse zutara story for like a year now. I’m insanely time poor so don’t like to post a story before its at least mostly drafted because I don’t want to leave people hanging if I don’t have time to finish it. This story is about 50,000 words so far with maybe another 20,000 to go.
It’s an AU where Iroh and Lu Ten (and later Zuko) escaped the Fire Nation before Ozai’s coup and used their White Lotus connections to turn the WL into an underworld gang— but they’re fighting for the greater good. Destabilising the Fire Nation, providing undercover support to the Earth Kingdom, putting bounties out on criminals of all nations to help the people… Katara, Toph, and Suki are The Runaways: a group of bounty hunters who get themselves onto the White Lotus’s radar and are “recruited” to join their cause.
Katara has a lot of baggage in this story— with her past and her tribe— so its really about her stepping up and overcoming the things that are holding her back. Zuko’s arc follows a similar trajectory.
It’s dark and bloody and delicious and so much fun to write. Antagonistic!zutara is absolutely golden!
6. Are you participating in ZFAW? If so, want to give us a hint as to your plans?
Oh hells yes! I’ve just checked out the ZFAW week outline and am definitely going to get something written for Tuesday and put together a fic rec list for Saturday!!
Thanks so much, Emily! Be sure to check out @fictionissocialinquiry‘s works on AO3 and show her some love this ZFAW :)
Until next time,

CONTENT CREATOR YEAR IN REVIEW
tagged by: @hanflix :’))) my love, rue!!! i love you so much!
tagging: @binniesthighs @milkym00n @dreamyhan @mochinnie @hanjizung @seungmoomin (if you’ve done this before please feel free to ignore this! :) ily) + anyone who sees this that hasn’t gotten to do it yet! tag me!!! i want to read into your world please this is fun to do i promise
NOTE: most of my works are nsfw. under 18 please do not interact with them.
Tumblr media
1. first creation of 2020 and most recent creation of 2020 first creation: runaway, a lovely fluff + sci-fi! au about alien hyunjin running from his lab and finding solace inside of your bedroom. most recent creation: ironically another hyunjin drabble (he’s my kryptonite)! free with ads is a smut request by a lovely anon about hyunjin wanting to have fun during a movie night with skz! hard warnings btw, beware.
2. one of your favorite creations from 2020 the ricochet effect, although it’s not out yet! it’s an ot8 series, part per member/’choose your own’ vibe, and it’s already got me in my feels. the entire series is meant to have the message of “love does include sex, in a healthy way. you can experiment without being called names, learn from mistakes, and even (just maybe) find someone that you can share a little more time with. all while learning about yourself, and how to love yourself!” or at least i hope it comes across that way. :) it’s witty and has bits of actual advice i want to pass over to smut readers, all while still being fiction. i hope it turns out well.
3. a creation you’re really proud of imminent! it’s a long fic about wolfman! changbin. It’s completely based off the movie “the wolfman” from 2010 that i love substantially, (mainly because it starred benicio del toro, who i’m constantly inspired by) and sort of follows the lore of the film without being exactly like the film. i wrote it in two short sittings, and i’m completely proud of myself for coming up with a huge spin to the plot within like an hour before writing it. it’s also one of the only works of my own that i can read without cringing too lmaoo.
4. a creation that took you forever the ricochet effect, again! i currently have 4 out of 8 written, but it feels like it’ll be the year 3000 by the time i finish it, and i will not be living under water. i’ll be screaming at my wifi for going in and out and deleting what i’m writing. rip.
5. a creation from 2020 that received the most notes could listen to you read the dictionary is the highest of my notes right now! which, who doesn’t have a very specific felix’s voice kink? this was my first request on this blog, so i’ll cherish this drabble for a long time.
6. a creation you think deserved more notes before i swapped over to this blog from bearseokie i was doing a 1k drabble game/halloween drabble game, which brought two of my favorite drabbles to light! epitaph is a warlock! au smut that is centered around the idea that minho can make you see a few minutes into the future, and also bring you back to the now moment! vampire is a vampy! au (obviously) smut where you’ve come to love your human seungmin, and all he wants to do is join you in the life of immortality to make you feel less alone. bonus: for my harry potter/hogwarts! au lovers, stars is considerably underrated and is very cute! jisung is a ravenclaw, reader is a slytherin. could i make it any more obvious?
7. a new fandom you joined and a creation you made for it i’m still a baby stay, so stray kids! i have a tendency to listen to a group’s music for months on end before i even get into the members and knowing their history. but when i got into skz holy shit you’d think i had an epiphany, these dudes are insanely talented and i am so sorry i slept on getting to know them. i’m just going to link my entire m.list since that’s what stanning them has brought out! masterlist!
8. a creation you made that breaks your heart words to me, definitely. the idea of being around soulmate! chan is enough to make anyone weak, but the lights in each other’s eyes put together form a diamond to tell you both that you’re soulmates? i’m on the floor, i hardly even remember writing that bit but it’s in there and i’m going awooga right now.
9. a ‘simple’ creation you really love 11:47 took my brain cells and ran with them. fuckbuddy! hyunjin is always on my mind, but damn if me writing this out didn’t electrify those thoughts by a thousand.
10. a creation that was inspired by another one beat it to the door was inspired by daniel sloss’ comedy special “X” (it is highly mature content and possibly triggering content btw pls look into it before watching if you do!!!) inside one of his jokes he was speaking about how sex is bound to happen to everyone, and can be under any circumstance. while listing things you could have sex during or between, he joked “order a pizza, see if you can beat it to the door.” and my brain went: chan. so welcome to how my brain works!
11. a favorite creation by someone else i love all of the recs under my tag #during.dawn.bookshelf, but oh do i know how many works i have yet to read and i know will shake me to my core. i honestly cannot choose any specific works off the top of my head, so instead i am just going to link my skz writer recs lists so you can see all the people i adore + who inspire me every (and i mean Every) day! skz writer recs: list one, list two, list three
12. some of your favorite content creators from this year where do i even start, okay: @hanflix - can make you cry and be horny at the same time? wtf rue. i came here for fun and now you’re making me Feel Emotions Through Your Writing That I Have Yet To Feel In Real Life Mom Pick Me Up Rue Is Too Talented. read rue’s works or you will regret it. @mikoto-ica-fics - i would be lying my sweet ass off if i said mica isn’t the explicit reason i made this blog. her works will literally (Literally) send you into another dimension and make you fall in love with skz all over again. @nightshade-minho - mika mika mika let me announce that i love mika, mika’s writing (so much that you make me genuinely excited to write), and mika’s aesthetically pleasing blog. the best “let me dip my toe into the water (aka mlist) and see what happens oh no i’m in it now and it’s 5 a.m how did i get here.” you’ll ever experience. @binniesthighs - if you’ve ever asked the question: where can i get some good fucking food (skz fluff & smut) around here? see ro! @dreamyhan - why is hazel everywhere, and how did i not find her sooner? how is hazel so talented? i ask these questions on a regular basis. @mochinnie - you’ll never be bored if you know isa’s @. everything she does is so neat, pretty, aesthetic, astounding, talented, beautiful, amazing, etc of what lady gaga says in that one meme which fits isa way too well. there are SO MANY skz writers i could go on about like this, so please please please check out the skz writers recs list above!!! i’m still adding to it as time goes on :) if you weren’t specifically mentioned here, just know i will find your blog and i will fall in love with you. this is a threat.

Anonymous said: You should get along with other Simblrs and start a new cc group now that PTS is disbanded, your hairs and clothes are always amazing! :D
Firstly thank you! Most of the clothing in AxA is 99% ayoshi with me going in after and cleaning/adding some stuff. So I give him props for the clothes :P As far as a ‘new PTS’ style group idk, there are a lot of amazing creators on simblr but I think the reason PTS was such a special thing is because the bond they all had. I feel that when working on collabs with some of my really close friends (such as the one coming out this month with @dogsill and @ayoshi) because we have known each other for over 2 years now. A group of friends built only for collabing purposes would be more of a hassle than an enjoyment imo. <3

Anonymous said: HELLLOOOO! just curious bc why not but what is your favorite creation that you have made??

The answer to the question in our title will be revealed later in this blog, but for now, how about this map of the Blessed Isle from the Dragon-Blooded: What Fire Has Wrought book currently being Kickstarted?
We just opened up a new pair of Add-ons with the Dragon-Blooded Kickstarter: this Blessed Isle map and a reprint of the original EX3 map of Creation from the Exalted 3rd Kickstarter. Both printed on the heavy canvas that we used back when for the first printing of the Creation map. Costs for that material have risen, but it’ll be worth it for such a high quality printing lovely enough to hang on any wall (but particular a gaming room)!
With our original print-run of the canvas map of Creation having completely sold out in like a day on IPR, we thought this would be a good time to reprint since there are obviously still folks out there who want them. Combine that with the reward tier that includes both the Deluxe Dragon-Blooded book and the Deluxe Exalted 3rd book, and you’ve got the makings of some fine games.
Dragon-Blooded Swept To Sea art by Priscilla Kim
On to our big news from last week!
As I’ve been teasing these last few weeks, we unveiled the first episode of the Onyx Pathcast podcast this last Friday (the 13th) to what can only be described as wild enthusiasm! Which is really great, because our three hosts (hence the three mentioned in my teasers), Dixie Cochran, Eddy Webb, and Matthew Dawkins are so revved up and rarin’ to go that they’ve got topics, guests, and ideas for weeks and weeks to come.
Here’s a link to our blog announcement: http://theonyxpath.com/episode-one-a-beginning/
So, that’ll tell you the basics about what the Onyx Pathcast is: a free-wheeling romp with our three hosts through what Onyx Path is up to and why. Along with inside looks at upcoming projects, advice on getting into this wacky business, interviews with creators and fans, and asides and references to all the interests and media we all share.
But let me let you in on how this whole thing happened to happen.
Some of you might remember that Fast Eddy Webb actually had a pretty well-regarded and timely podcast about a decade ago while he was at White Wolf and even into the CCP years. He and I have talked about reviving something like that for a while, but the problem was that it felt like we’d been there and done that. As excellent and fun as that that was.
Meanwhile, Mister Matthew Dawkins had become known for his broadcasts on his Gentleman Gamer YouTube channel, but was open to trying something else with Eddy that could be their way of putting out their thoughts and ideas. (The whole idea might have started with wanting to rant about professional wrestling, but don’t quote me on that. It might be a base canard). If you’ve never watched any of his vids, you should really check them out. There’s at least one fascinating interview with a devilishly good-looking founder of what was then a brand-new TTRPG company that sounds something like Ronyx Rath.
When we pivoted the company into our current configuration with Dixie joining Eddy and Matthew as our in-house developer team, they all got really excited about the possibilities for a podcast with all three of them bouncing their ideas and asides off each other. I think it was Dixie who coined the Onyx Pathcast as a title – which might be something she’ll regret as I liked it and we are running with it now!
For us, this is our first step into further Onyx Path-based ongoing online content, and we wanted to start with something that the Terrible Trio (or Terrific Trio, as I switch back and forth calling them) felt they could do well in the medium and grow with. We’re getting on Google Play for Android (it might be there already) and will be on iTunes as soon as we can make that happen. We’re adding a video montage and new logos for the show in order to post it on our YouTube channel, and we’ll see if folks enjoy it there.
The next is episode is April 27th as they intend these to come out every two weeks, and will feature the Trio interviewing the talented and busy Meghan Fitzgerald about her many projects for us, including Changeling: The Lost 2nd, and the Exalted 3rd monthly releases. Check it out!
Changeling: The Lost 2nd art by Michael Gaydos
Also going live on April 27th is the Slarecian Vault: Scarred Lands Community Content site on DTRPG.com! We’re thrilled to be able to open up this legendary setting for projects created by the Scarred Lands‘ community that has loved and been loyal to the battered but still epic world of Scarn. As we look to the next phase of rebooting the Scarred Lands for play in a time of D&D 5e and Pathfinder, both on tabletop and virtual tabletop, we’re really looking forward to seeing what our community dives into in the rich wealth of possibilities offered by Scarred Lands.
In a lot of ways, having our community create and spread ideas for SL is the best chance to get this setting we love into the hands of the much larger PF and 5e communities – who we think will love Scarred Lands once they know about it – since the d20 craze when we first launched it.
      Dragon-Blooded art by HIVE Studios
Finally: How Do You Get To Carnegie Hall? Practice, practice, practice! But in the case of LisaT and myself, you get there because you have talented kids who sing and their HS choral groups sing there. Which is what our son will be doing for his last time in High School next Monday. Unfortunately, right during our Monday Meeting!
Fortunately, Mighty Matt McElroy has volunteered to both run the meeting and to post next week’s Monday Meeting Notes blog in my absence. He’ll also be telling you about our new and exciting plans for the rest of our Onyx Path blogs, not to be overshadowed by the Pathcast!
Hopefully, this Herculean task does not overcome even Mighty Matt’s mighty thews! I’m sure that if all of you think evil thoughts, that will power him up. (Usually he prefers lots and lots of caffeine, but this is a special case).
So, until I talk with you all two weeks from now, remember our inspirational Onyx Path motto:
Many Worlds, One Path!
    BLURBS!
KICKSTARTER:
We’re at just over a week to go for EX3‘s Dragon-Blooded Kickstarter and we’re over 400% funded with over 1850 backers so far!
We’ve hit 24 Stretch Goal rewards, and counting, including a t-shirt, two more silk bookmarks (at least!), increased art budget, a Dragon-Blooded novella, adding on the Storyteller Screen, opening up additional Reward Tiers for more custom charms and artifacts; new Charms, 2 sections of info on Lookshy, 2 sections on the Forest Witches, 2 sections on Outcastes, Cadet Houses, and Prasad to the Heirs to the Shogunate Dragon-Blooded Companion PDF and lots more! Phew!
Thanks so much for everybody’s support so far! Even though we’re doing great, the best is yet to come and we hope that folks can get the word out on their social media and to their friends. Everybody deserves a chance to check out this latest EX3 “fatsplat” for the most elemental of the Exalted.
Which every backer can do, because each week of the campaign we’re releasing a quarter of the Dragon-Blooded book’s text so that backers can check the whole thing out by the time we are done. We think you’ll really love what we’ve done with the DBs, but if for some reason you don’t, you can drop your pledge before the KS is over and walk away easy peasy!
So, here’s the link and see you there! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/200664283/dragon-blooded-what-fire-has-wrought-for-exalted-3
As we try and find ways to enable our community to more easily play our games, the Onyx Dice Rolling App is now live! Our dev team has been doing updates since we launched based on the excellent use-case comments by our community, and this thing is both rolling and rocking!
The devs have added a whole bunch of new game lines’ dice and rolling bg’s and got caught by a bug Apple needed to fix, so be sure to update your app and soon that should be fixed.
There’s been tweaks to all elements of the UI, you can now preview every die type in the store, and you can use multiple die types per roll! Here are the links for the Apple and Android versions:

Secret Santa Application - Two Weeks Left! - All Meihem Fans Welcome to Join!
Hello to everyone out there!
I am very happy to announce that so far, we have 26 applicants for our secret santa gift exchange event, so far! 24 are content creators, 2 of them are SUPER Secret Santa gift receivers!
Since even more people would love to apply, this means that we are on the best way to surpass the applicants number we had for the Meihem Valentine’s Day gift exchange, which was earlier this year, where the number of applicants indeed was 26!
Tumblr media
Thank you all so much for your amazing applications, your support, your questions, feedback and sharing of the event  and especially: Your happiness, anticipation and love for meihem. You all are fantastic! It feels so great to see familiar faces return, but also to see many newcomers!
Nevertheless, there is something that has come to attention over the course of this week and those were questions about who actually has the qualifications to be a part of this secret santa event and if they can join, as well :)
For everyone who has a similar question and is interested in the answer, let me recite this bit of a most recent ask:
Every fan of meihem can join. Whether you are a fan artist, a fanfic writer, an edits maker, an animator, or maybe someone with another creative talent not on this list, you are most welcome to join!
And even if you cannot personally make a gift for someone else and still would like to be gifted, you are still allowed to join - so far, we have a lot of people who volunteered as SUPER Secret Santas. That means they offer their creative support to jump in, should another participant suddenly have to drop out of the event or someone apply where the “Can’t create something myself, but still would like to participate” - situation applies :)
This is offered with the reasoning that these events are about bringing our group of fans closer together x3 ! So these are basically the qualifications!
Long story short: If you love meihem and would love to make someone happy by making a meihem themed gift for them, or simply love meihem and would like to receive something from someone who loves the ship just as much as you do, then you definitely are more than welcome to join!
So far, many of the participants have volunteered to be SUPER Secret Santas and the creative talents and wishes couldn’t be more diverse!
With that being said, you are more than welcome to apply, ask further questions and also to spread the word to anyone who might be interested! These status updates also happen on a regular basis with the intention to keep everyone up to date and reach everyone with the info who might be interested, since with the VDay exchange, we still left a lot of application time and spread the word, but nevertheless a few content creators were super sad that they missed the deadline for applications for different reasons TAT
We’re trying our best to not let that happen for Christmas! No sad faces on the SS Meihem /) >w< /) <3
If you are new to this and feel like joining us: You find the FAQ to the event HERE and our application sheet HERE!
We’re looking forward to further applications from you and hope you’ll get to enjoy the rest of this week! Take care!

Top 10 Most Viewed YouTube Videos in 2019
#trending
Tumblr media
Did you know, YouTube ranks as the second most visited social media platform in the world? More than 2 billion logged-in users visit YouTube every month and users watch over a billion hours of video every day. With these overwhelming statistics, it’s no surprise that YouTube is a top choice among artists and celebrities to share videos. Over 2 million artists showcase their talents on YouTube to engage their audiencesn From Beyonce’s live stream at Coachella to record-breaking videos like “Despacito,” YouTube hosts a range of unique music video content. It is where over 1 billion music lovers come to discover new music and be part of the trending music culture. But YouTube is not limited to music videos. It is equally favored by others for posting various types of videos. Some other popular video genres include gaming, tutorials, cartoons, challenges, and instrumental videos. Let’s talk about the 10 most viewed YouTube videos in 2019, according to the latest rankings by Statista. In this post, we will also cover a few interesting facts and figures about each one of these most viewed YouTube videos.
What’s Special About the Most Viewed YouTube Videos?
Let’s talk about the 10 most viewed YouTube videos in 2019, according to the latest rankings by Statista. In this post, we will also cover a few interesting facts and figures about each one of these most viewed YouTube videos.
1. Despacito — Luis Fonsi ft. Daddy Yankee (6.24 billion views on YouTube)
Spanish word, “despacito,” means “slowly” in English. Its rise is anything but slow. Soon after the launch, it became the most watched YouTube video in 2017. Ever since, the song has remained number one and its record has been unbeaten with over 6.24 billion views. The most fascinating part about this song is its international reach. “Despacito” has spread all around the world and created a global wave among music lovers. Erika, co-writer of the song, says, “The whole world is singing and dancing in Spanish. That is something really amazing.” Other than Mexico and Spanish-speaking countries, “Despacito” has become insanely popular in countries where Spanish is not even the second language! Sri Lanka, India, Indonesia, Israel, and Italy have witnessed the ground-breaking popularity of the song.
2. Shape of You — Ed Sheeran (4.24 billion views on YouTube)
Released in 2017, “Shape of You” won him a number of accolades, including a Grammy and Billboard Music Award. It was also awarded with NRJ Music Awards in the most streamed song and video of the year categories. So what is the reason Ed Sheeran made history with his song, “Shape of You”? Speaking to the New York Times, Sheeran said that the Steve Mac produced song was written during a brainstorming session. He also described how he created the song and how the melody, lyrics, and instruments played important roles in it. The melody used in this song belongs to the pentatonic scale which is already popular among musicians and listeners. Pentatonic scale has found its love in jazz, blues, and rock music from all over the world. And it spelled its charm again with Sheeran’s hit song, “Shape of You.”
3. See You Again — Wiz Khalifa ft. Charlie Puth (4.13 billion views on YouTube)
Currently the third most viewed YouTube video, “See You Again,” was sung by rapper Wiz Khalifa and it featured Charlie Puth. The song was written for the movie, “Furious 7,” from “The Fast and the Furious” franchise. There was an emotional touch to this song as it was meant to be a tribute to the late star, Paul Walker. The song has been a popular choice among music lovers and crossed more than 4.13 billion views on YouTube. Unlike other songs, “See You Again” does not have a dance crew or heavy music to make you swing to its notes. But it managed to dethrone Psy’s “Gangnam Style,” something that many didn’t expect with the latter’s huge popularity. And it managed to become one of the most viewed YouTube videos till date. Charlie Puth wrote a heartfelt note saying, “The song has taken on so many layers, layers that I never even fathomed when I wrote it.” There was another factor behind their 3 million views per day in 2017. A music video ad sales site, Vevo, which was owned by Universal Music and Sony Music, helped it. The site utilized YouTube’s algorithms to increase views, according to Billboard news.
4. Masha and the Bear: Recipe for Disaster (3.68 billion views on YouTube)
Masha and the Bear: Recipe for Disaster is a rather unusual contender for the fourth position on this list of the most viewed YouTube videos. It has received 3.68 billion views so far and it is the only non-music video on the list. The success of this Russian children’s animation can be attributed to its popularity among children. The video has a simple storyline based on traditional folklore about a little girl, Masha, who lives with a retired circus bear. And this particular episode is about Masha’s attempt to cook by herself, which results in a disaster. The characters are colourful and the plot is harmless. It is a kind of video that modern-day busy parents can let their children watch without worry. While it was produced for the local Russian market, it soon gained global popularity and became one of the most viewed YouTube videos. According to Moscow-based Animaccord Animation Studio, the creator of this video, two-thirds of the views come from outside Russia. Till date more than a hundred television stations broadcast this series, along with other platforms such as Netflix, Amazon, iTunes and YouTube.
5. Uptown Funk — Mark Ronson Ft. Bruno Mars (3.58 billion views on YouTube)
Although “Uptown Funk” is older than all of the previous music videos, it is still admired by fans and it continues to gain more views. The song performed by Mark Ronson featured Bruno Mars and made it to the top ten most viewed YouTube videos. “Uptown Funk” made its debut on YouTube in 2014 and quickly grabbed the attention of music lovers. Other than its regular fans, the song draws new viewers and maintains its top position giving a tough competition to other YouTube music videos. Bruno Mars was already a household name by then but Mark Ranson made his fortune with this song. Their song, “Uptown Funk,” managed to hold its number one position on the U.S. Billboard 100 chart for fourteen consecutive weeks. With catchy phrases, a great combination of instruments, and an upbeat tune, “Uptown Funk” received over 3.50 billion views on YouTube. The song also won two Grammys in 2016 for Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance categories.
6. Gangnam Style — Psy (3.36 billion views on YouTube)
The first YouTube video to reach a billion views, “Gangnam Style,” is currently the sixth most viewed YouTube video. It is the 18th K-pop number from South Korean musician, Psy, who was virtually unknown outside Korea till 2012. The sudden popularity of the song remains something of an enigma. Referring to the lifestyle from Gangnam District in Seoul, the song was a chartbuster in more than thirty countries including Australia, Canada, France, Russia, Spain, and the United Kingdom. Its popularity is attested by the fact that the likes of Barack Obama, David Cameron, and Ban Ki-moon have attempted to dance to the song. The song initially received mixed reviews. But it soon became popular due to its catchy tune and beats as well as Psy’s innovative horse trot dance that became a global sensation. The most viewed YouTube video from December 2012 to July 2017, “Gangnam Style,” still holds the record for being the most discussed video. HANDPICKED RELATED CONTENT:
7. Sorry — Justin Bieber (3.14 billion views on YouTube)
“Bieber fever” never seems to stop. When Justin Bieber released his first song, “Baby,” on YouTube, it made him an international celebrity overnight. The song not only became one of the most viewed YouTube videos of all time but also won him MTV and Billboard Music awards. Over the years, he produced a number of hit songs and remained one of the most sought after celebrity. “Sorry” is a song from his fourth album called “Purpose,” and it currently ranks as the seventh most viewed YouTube video. “Sorry” easily managed to become one of the most viewed YouTube videos and has surpassed more than 3.14 billion views till date. It was released in 2015 and it stayed on top in thirteen countries including a seven-week top spot in Canada. The song also made to America’s first new chart-topper of 2016 pushing Adele’s “Hello” to second position on BillBoard list of The Hot 100.
8. Sugar — Maroon 5 (2.97 billion views on YouTube)
And that’s precisely the reason behind the immense popularity of “Sugar” by Maroon 5. It ranks eighth on the list of the most viewed YouTube videos with 2.97 billion views. The video was directed by David Dobkin, who had earlier directed “Wedding Crashers.” It was recorded as the band turned up unannounced at several weddings in different parts of LA. The shooting was apparently a fantastic affair for all involved with lead singer, Adam Levine, describing it as an “out of body” experience. Clearly the viewers loved this innovative concept and yet another music video became a superhit not necessarily due to mind blowing tunes and lyrics.
9. Baby Shark Dance — Pinkfong (2.87 billion views on YouTube)
The ninth most popular video on YouTube is again one whose target audience is young children. With 2.87 billion views, this music video once again affirms the growing importance of YouTube as a disseminator of content for children. Produced by the South Korea-based educational content creator, Pinkfong, the “Baby Shark” song deals with a family of sharks that goes hunting and is safe at the end. The dance moves that attempt the movement of a shark are simple and can be imitated and practiced by the tiny viewers, solo or in groups. The song has repetitive lyrics, fast beats, and a catchy tune, which makes it enjoyable and easy-to-follow for children. It was released in five languages including Korean, English, Chinese, Japanese, and Spanish, which helped increase its global outreach. Apart from the fact that it was marketed well, there were other factors that lead to its popularity. The first factor that helped promote this song were its covers, which were released in quick succession. Secondly, the Baby Shark Challenge added to its viral popularity. Other than being one of the most viewed YouTube videos, the song also grabbed the attention of environmentalists and animal lovers. The “Baby Shark Dance” song drew empathy of young generation towards sharks by depicting them like a human family.
10. Roar — Katy Perry (2.83 billion views on YouTube)
“Roar” is a song about overcoming challenges and treading over obstacles in life to emerge victorious. This song inspires viewers to continue to fight, no matter what the situation is. No wonder this positive message really resonated with viewers. But “Roar” is more than just a strong message. The chorus and instrumentation in the song has also been arranged in a way that conveys a sense of foreboding in the beginning. But they leave the listener feeling empowered at the end. Though it received mixed reviews, “Roar” was nominated for Song of the Year (2013) and Best Pop Solo Performance at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards. When “Roar” registered one billion views on YouTube in July 2015, Perry became the first artist with two music videos with over a billion views. 3 WRITTEN BY

FRIENDS TV SHOW – MORE THAN JUST A SHOW
Memories are captured by our brains and stored for a lifetime, good and bad. For example, the Friends tv-series gave us so many positive episodes and episodes with hardships.
Isn’t it true, it’s better to have positive memories than negative flashbacks into our past life?
The Friends tv-series taught us that memories are made up of time, the one thing we don’t get back in life is time, so, make the best of your time.
Despite the fact life throws some pretty intense trials our way, we should always use our time to help others.
In doing so, there is no room for failure in being your happiest. It’s proven when you surround yourself with good people your values are set.
In short, this means you know what you deserve and those types of friends will also be around for you when times are hard.
The quote “I would rather have a handful of best friends than just one,” is true. Why put all your eggs in one basket?
Having a handful of wonderful friends reminds me of the show FRIENDS but isn’t that the ideal group right there?

What’s the connection in specific?
Despite Ross and Rachels falling in love, out of love or “taking a break.”
Despite Joey and Chandler’s fighting of girls or a bracelet, they still talked about the problem, even if it was through a box.
Despite Chandler and Monica falling in love regardless of Chandler’s relationship fears with commitment, they still talked about the problem. They didn’t rush their marriage and even met in the middle when it came to spending money on their wedding (although, we all know it was totally Monica’s thunderous day).

This is not good for his rage, Joey!

Despite Joey and Rachel having a fling of confusion. Ross was upset but again, they still talked out the problem.
Despite Phoebe’s pagan like persona, they still loved her for who she was because she was tough, yet she would give the shirt off her back in a heartbeat (I mean, she even made Monica a whole new frame, lol).
In turn, we learned to lean on one another and hopefully how to love new people who come into our lives.

Remember the episode where Pheobeand Monica “cut out,” friends as they began to go through college?
It was called ‘The One with Ross’s Tan’ which is the third episode of the tenth season of Friends (which aired on October 9, 2003).
Further, Phoebe and Monica’s old roommate, Amanda, who is hands down a “New Yorker,” from Yonkers but this time, she’s picked up a British accent and very ego-centric. Both Monica and Phoebe attempt to avoid Amanda without hurting her feelings.
With this in mind, it’s safe to say the two friends didn’t want toxic in their life. Even so, they were respectful and loving merely by trying not to hurt her feelings.
Honestly, those two (if it was reality) would be the best people in the world to have as a friend.
Unfortunately, Amanda’s visit also sparked a backstory for Phoebe and Monica.
In an older episode that is flashed back too, Phoebe was becoming annoyed with how “controlling and compulsive” she behaved.
Next, the episode expanded on other problems they went through while living together in Monica’s apartment.
Phoebe explains to Monica that even though she was a little compulsive, she realized that Monica was truly a nice person and she is glad she changed her mind about cutting Monica out of her life.

What does that teach us exactly?
This teaches us not to judge too harshly and too soon. It means that we give people the benefit of the doubt until we have a real mature reason to move on in life.
FRIENDS is a tv show that has endless relatable episodes but each of them shows values, love, struggle, lust, pain, and of course, comedy.
Christina Grimmie continues to change the world from heaven!
The writers and creators David Crane, Marta Kauffman, Scott Silveri, Andrew Reich, Alexa Junge, Jeff Greenstein, and Jeff Strauss are to thank. The talent they put into their writing translated to the television like magic.

Although, and I can’t believe this, there are still people out there who have not watched the show.
For the love of all things living, do it.
Just as important, laughter is the best medicine when you’re feeling down. The show truly gives a lot of comedy and relatable content.
Most of all, it gives a pretty good picture of life, having to work, make ends meet and still maintain relationships with others.

3 Days in Queer Utopia: Thoughts on Clexacon
Las Vegas may be known as Sin City, but for a majority of the 2200 Clexacon goers, Las Vegas was more like an oasis in the desert. What was originally conceived as a small but clear response to the Bury Your Gays trope and the death of Lexa on The 100, evolved over the course of a year into a massive celebration of all things queer and female focused in entertainment. The fun started even before the con kicked off, with a party the night before at one of Vegas’ LGBTQ bars, the Phoenix. Queer, trans, non-binary folks and allies alike crammed into the space to drink, dance and meet longtime social media friends in the flesh. The band Betty even took the stage to belt out a tune. Alas, it was not the L Word theme song! The excitement was palpable on Day One of the con and continued throughout the three days, even as peoples’ bodies were weary from late nights and long days. God bless the Clexacon staff and volunteers who walked their feet to the bones and were always available for questions and assistance. Here’s a peek at Day One put together by Clexacon.   I was lucky enough to moderate one of the first panels of the con, Creating a Web Series, with panelists Christin Baker from Tello Films, Nancylee Myatt (South of Nowhere, Nikki and Nora), Paige Bernhart (Nikki and Nora, NCIS Nola) and Aasha Davis (South of Nowhere, Drunk History, The Unwritten Rules). Paige and Nancylee brought a little bit of Mardi Gras to Vegas with them, tossing beads and swag into the audience, and right off the bat you knew it was going to be a great panel. What an honor to speak with such an experienced and talented group of women. In fact, every panel I attended was absolutely killer. Big conversations were started, exciting ideas were generated, bonds were formed, and you couldn’t help but feel that if you could harness the heart of this event, it would have the power to really change the world. I walked away with so much more than I came with, and I am so grateful to all who shared their experiences and knowledge. I only wish I could have attended more smaller panels. Of course, one of the major draws of Clexacon were the big room panels. Panels with big names like the Spashley reunion of Gabrielle Christian and Mandy Musgrave, Wayhaught (with an adorably awestruck Kat Barrell, Dominique Provost-Chalkey and Emily Andras), Shoot (Sarah Shahi and Amy Acker who were incredible sports), Lost Girl, Saving Face, BAM from All My Children, and of course, Carmilla’s Elise Bauman and Natasha Negovanlis, otherwise known as Hollstein. Here’s vid from that panel, where I asked Elise and Natasha to reenact famous scenes between queer tv and movie couples. Let’s just say, they crushed it. It starts at the 20:49 mark.   Other big room panels like Lexa’s Legacy, Year in Review, Power of Queer Social Media, and LGBTQ Actresses  drew big crowds, and had some pretty amazing moments. Another big event was Emily Andras’ writing workshop, which I was lucky enough to attend along with a packed house. Andras has a wonderfully funny but no nonsense approach to writing and is an excellent teacher. The artists alley was full of talented folks selling their wares, as well as organizations spreading the word. My suitcase was no joke, 10 lbs heavier when I left, thanks to all the great merch and Tim Tams straight from Australia. (Thanks Amber!) For a first time con, Clexacon went quite smoothly. Sure there were a few hiccups, but there was so much joy in the air, everyone just rolled with it. I met attendees as young as 8 years old and those in their 70s.  People from across town and across the world.  I can tell you this: I will be back next year. For me personally, from the moment I stepped through the con doors, to the moment I said goodbye to Las Vegas, Clexacon was one of the greatest experiences of my personal and professional life. I learned so much from all of you, and I am grateful, honored and humbled to have met so many lovely people and moderated some incredible panels. I hope you liked all the Bella swag! I know my experience differs from others simply based on the fact that I was there as a moderator and not as a guest, so I have asked Bella readers and Clexacon attendees to share their experiences with us. I’d also invite you to share with us in the comments! “Clexacon was unlike anything I’d ever experienced. I came because the content was something I was really interested in, and because I wanted to meet the friends that I’ve made on twitter. Also Amy Acker. It was a warm, comfortable environment where everyone belonged and accepted each other. It was so easy to make new friends because of this, and because of the commonality we all shared. It was also really powerful to see so many people, and to hear that when we come together, we have a loud voice that has been and will be heard.” – @hmgflyer “I felt as if I was in such a safe space in such a long time! In my city nearly all the queer women’s spaces have ceased operation. Knowing that all these women are into the same stuff I’m into made it even better!” – @CroEna9 “My ClexaCon experience was absolutely amazing! Being the first convention I have ever attended, I don’t think anything could ever compare to the positive, supportive, and just all around amazing energy and vibes that surrounded ClexaCon, all the attendees and amazing line up of guests, was just so heart warming and amzing. The friendships, connections, and the honour of attendance at ClexaCon will forever live on in my heart.” – @LezbrosNFrnz “ClexaCon not only allowed me to connect with one of my passions, television, but also provided me the opportunity to discuss that passion in a space that made me feel safe and validated. For once I wasn’t that weird nerd girl who wanted to discuss representation on television, but part of a community that cares deeply about each other and seeing themselves on tv.” – Morgan Clapp “I hadn’t traveled since I’d been disabled (almost 10 years), but I had to get to ClexaCon! The Staff, including the Volunteers, took such great care of me. I never had to worry about getting into a panel or a photo op. Other Cons could learn from ClexaCon.” – Barbara Wolfe “As a girl that grew up on a tiny island in the Bahamas, face buried in a book or eyes glued to a tv screen for some form of escape from a world I never really felt I belonged to, ClexaCon weekend in Vegas meant more to me than I can ever express. Growing up surrounded by people I didn’t have much in common with was incredibly lonely. I had never realized just how isolated I felt until I was immersed in the world of ClexaCon with people who share my thoughts and feelings and interests. It felt like I was finally home.” – @ShanLaShawn “ClexaCon was, in a nutshell, like a really large family reunion, it was like coming home. Every second spent at the convention space was like being wrapped in this huge, lesbian filled bubble of positive, warm, passionate, energy, just this overwhelming, indescribable feeling of BELONGING somewhere. It didn’t matter how old you were, where you came from, or what you looked like, you were Kru! And that’s a feeling I will always carry with me. ClexaCon and the people I met while there irrevocably changed not only my life, but me as a person!”   -Meagan Baxter “I think that ClexaCon might be my favorite experience of my entire life so far. Not because of the media guests who were there (although Betty McRae meant/means a lot to me and meeting Ali Liebert was amazing), but because of the time I got to spend with fellow LGBTQ women in and out of the Con itself. I don’t know any queer women where I live, so my connection to the community is usually just online. This weekend at ClexaCon I was able to spend time with amazing women (some who I knew online, some who I didn’t) who I share so much in common with as both queer women and fans that I felt freer to laugh, cry, fangirl, and just be myself more than I think I ever have before. It was an amazing experience and I cannot wait to go again next year.” – @buknerd “The panels with content creators and actors were phenomenal. I don’t know how the organizers pulled in the guests that they did, but I was grateful for everyone’s professionalism, knowledge, and ability to keep the audience engaged. I learned from the “Bisexual Representation in the Media” panel. I enjoyed laughing in the reunion panels. I was grateful for the many intelligent audience questions. When I attended the Saving Face Reunion, I was pleasantly surprised to hear that Alice Wu’s educational background is similar to mine. Being a Chinese-American, I was also glad to see Alice Wu, Lynn Chen, and Michelle Krusiec on the stage because I realized that it was the first time I had seen people who, for back of better words, look like me and discuss a movie they made.” – Heather Lo “I’m 23 years old and do not have any LGBTQ female friends, they’re all straight. Spending three full days with hundreds of LGBTQ women was the most comfortable environment I have ever been in in my whole life. I never felt out of place, just completely content in my own skin. Stepping over the threshold from Bally’s casino area into the convention each day was like flipping the world upside down and experiencing it the way that it should be: loving, accepting, welcoming, respectful and empowering. I attended the con alone and despite being more of an introvert, I spent every day talking to people I had never met before who came from all around the world for one specific reason. To demand the representation we deserve (and to of course grieve Lexa). This was by far the most necessary and imperative moment for queer women, I learned so much at each and every panel I went to. Calling ClexaCon special is an extreme understatement, but I’m not quite sure there is a more fitting word.” – Susan LeGrice http://dlvr.it/NbNgYB

It’s Sam, your Cosplay Savant here and it’s time for a NEW set of Cosplay Features! With COVID 19 getting people down we wanted to share some INCREDIBLY CREATIVE folks who YOU can follow online without leaving your home! First up: Air Bubbles Cosplay!
First Cosplay: Codex from The Guild
Location: Seattle, Washington
Gender: Female
Welcome Air Bubbles Cosplay! Let’s kick this off with my favorite question: What was the FIRST convention you attended?
My first convention was probably Sakuracon. I can’t remember quite when because it was before I really cared much about conventions or cosplay. I attended with my mom because my sister had a booth (she’s an artist). The first convention I ever attended for myself was probably PAX West (PAX Prime back in the day) in 2008. I went for one day, mostly to stare at everything Halo related.
Halo…I remember being smitten by that game when I was younger. So, are you a part of any cosplay organizations?
Currently, I am not part of any organizations. I am apart of a lot of groups that I love dearly such as Seattle Online Broadcasters Association and She-Prop but no organizations yet!
I ADORE She-Prop! Do you have any pop culture genres that inspire your cosplay style?
I like to keep myself pretty open to any and all cosplay genres. I really like to create costumes that speak to me or be characters that I feel a close connection with. Even though I keep myself open I do have my favorites! I have cosplayed quite a bit from Magic the Gathering (the card game) and my first armor build and second cosplay ever was Chandra, Pyromaster. A fiery hot red head with some attitude. I also cosplay from the video game Destiny. I cosplay very frequently as Mara Sov, the Queen of the Reef. That particular cosplay turned 4 this year! Lastly, I am a huge fan of the show Critical Role. I’ve been a fan since the first campaign and continue to follow it to this day. While I don’t have many cosplays from it, I always keep my eyes peeled for some fan drawn art to create based on my favorite characters!
Pyromaster Chandra
Mara Sov
Codex
I am seeing a gaming trend here; you’re a cosplayer after my own heart! What motivates you to create cosplay?
Ever since I was a child I wanted to be an actor of some sorts, I ended up moving away from that in college when I discovered costume design, but my heart still really enjoys becoming a character and being on a stage. My entire life goal of what I wanna be when I grow up is a professional content creator (which I have been able to dip my toes into!), so my motivations are pretty much, learning new things, bringing characters I love and others love to life, teaching what I’ve learned to other people and that… awe factor. I shove lights and smoke into anything I can because I love the look of awe and shock on people’s faces, especially kids. Warms my heart!
Special Effects in costumes often add that extra “zing” that pushes the creation to the next level. Do you have any particular expectations of yourself or others in cosplay?
I find putting expectations on others is something I don’t do too often. I have a lot of expectations of myself though because I can control that. For others I at least expect people to be kind, respectful and helpful. I’ve encountered a few cosplayers in my day who took losing a contest very poorly and talked badly about the winners, or who were just overall rude to everyone other than their friends or famous people and lastly I’ve seen people gate keep tips and tricks. I find the cosplay community grows positively when people share things they’ve discovered that have helped them! This is why I teach panels, I love to share those little tips and tricks I wish I had known when I first started. As far as expectations for myself, I have a few over different scenarios. I compete a lot because I love the stage and I love to meet new people. Not necessarily an expectation but I try to make at least one friend every time I’m backstage. I’ve made so many amazingly talented people that way and I love it! I also expect to be kind, respectful and helpful as best I can. I really lean into that helpful and kind part because as a streamer I want to be a super chill and fun place to hang out where you could learn a thing or two!
I like your chill, it’s absolutely needed in this community. Speaking of the cosplay community: who do you admire in it?
I admire a lot of people in the community. Partially for their drive and talent but also their heart. I really admire my friend Hannah (Miss Tyo) a lot. She is an abundance of knowledge and loves to share it. She’s taught me so many things as a seamstress and it’s really helped keep my head on straight! And she’s honestly just the nicest person ever. If you ever see her a con, maybe say hi and see if she has any neat tips or tricks to share! Every costume she makes has a little nugget in it. I would also have to say my friend Kat (Valkryie Studios). We had a rough patch (we’ve known each other awhile), which I won’t get into but through that we both grew as people and as creators. She can build anything she puts her mind to and isn’t afraid of trying new things. She has admitted she is not particularly good at sewing but picked a character that had an embroidered jacket. She created a pattern and taught herself how to embroider all the detail on. She has a keen eye for detail and sets out to really capture the detail of everything she makes and it just blows me away every time. We just attended C2E2 together mostly to meet a bunch of Critical Role fans like us and the amount of love and joy her costumes and props have brought that community just seriously warmed my heart. I aspire to bring that to the communities I am a part of too. I will also add Kamui Cosplay and Kinpatsu Cosplay. Their patterns and tutorials have helped me SO SO much. I am terrible at shapes sometimes and their patterns have helped me get unstuck on certain costumes. I hope I can give back a fraction of what they have to the community someday.
Alright…the time has come: What is YOUR favorite cosplay?
My favorite cosplay?! Oh geez, I think I have a tie… Chandra has been one I’ve made… 3 times I think? She is my favorite character and I’ve worn her A LOT. She even helped me get some work with Wizards of the Coast last year where I attended San Diego Comicon as Chandra and then created a custom Chandra cosplay for the famous shogi player, Manoa Kagawa in Japan. Yes… I did get to go to Japan and hand deliver the cosplay, it was the most amazing time of my life and was one week before my wedding! And the other tie goes to Mara Sov from Destiny. Mara Sov was a cosplay that I won my first award in (ECCC 2015, 3rd in Tailoring) and I’ve also made a few different versions of her. I feel like a queen in that cosplay and the Destiny cosplay community is just so kind and fun to be around! I just love wearing her and being able to be a part of that community.
Pyromaster Wizards
Mara Sov 2
Woah…that is amazing. Well…since we’re on the favorites train, do you have a favorite cosmaterial?
Favorite cosplay material is, hands down, Worbla. Worbla every day any day, I love it so much. I also have some schooling background in sewing so fabric is nice.. sometimes. Also.. LED’s. I love putting lights in everything!
I can’t disagree with you on Worbla…their thermoplastic series are very adaptable. Let’s get to wrapping this up as I could talk with you all day and I am sure you have lots of creative things to focus on. So, for our last question, what advice do you have for cosplayers out there?
The advice I have is similar to expectations. Be kind, be respectful and helpful. Helpful could be just a safety pin that someone needed because their skirt tore or a hot glue gun or an amazing tutorial. It can come in all levels! I also want to tell you, don’t be afraid. Some people have been doing this a long time, some people haven’t and some people learn and grow faster than others. Go at your own pace and create what YOU love. If you make something you think is popular and you hope it makes you popular, I guarantee it will not look as good as something you’ve poured your heart into and you will feel much better wearing something you love. Yes, I have made something I thought was popular and I hated every second I wore the costume and it looked awful. Also if you want to compete but you’re scared… that’s ok! Just do it! You’ll meet amazing people in the process and you’ll have a great time!

Bored with Your Blog? These 10 Tips Will Make You Fall in Love Again
Content marketing is a long game.
In one way, that’s excellent — because all of your lazy or undisciplined competitors are going to drop out.
In another way, it sucks, because we all have days when we’re lazy and undisciplined.
In the early days, we can get by on adrenaline and enthusiasm. But as the months pass, we need some strategies to stay in love with that blog, video channel, or podcast.
Here are 10 strategies I’ve found helpful when you don’t want to quit, but you need to get a little bit of the magic back.
1. Read outside your topic
When you’re mastering a new subject, it’s only natural to immerse yourself in it. You’ll read, watch, and listen to content obsessively while you pick up nuances and new ideas.
It’s a bit of a honeymoon with your topic … you can’t keep your hands off of it.
But honeymoons don’t last forever, and an obsessive focus on only your topic will quickly become boring for you … and for your audience.
Recognize when it’s time to turn your attention outside your topic. In the past year, I got a bit obsessed with urban sketching — and that sparked hundreds of insights about creativity and the artist’s mindset.
We recently decided to add a puppy to our household, and my obsessive immersion in research on puppy training is already giving me ideas about persuasion and shaping audience behavior.
Focusing outside your topic will make you smarter inside your topic.
It will also keep you interested and engaged.
2. Incorporate a new medium
Reading outside your primary topic will give you all kinds of new ideas to create content around.
But you can also create content in a new medium or format. If you’re a terrific writer, have you ever thought about launching a podcast or video channel?
Shaping your ideas to a new format will make you look at your topic with fresh eyes — and that keeps things more interesting for everyone.
3. Keep a “sketchbook”
Remember my urban sketching obsession?
Lots of visual artists keep sketchbooks handy all the time. They can capture a compelling face or gesture, an entrancing cityscape, or just an interesting collection of shapes and lines in a group of coffee pots.
I’d advise any content marketer to keep a journal for capturing ideas on the fly, scraps of dialogue, names or URLs of content you want to check out, and even the occasional doodle.
It’s our job as creative people to “make something out of nothing.” And that, of course, is an illusion. We create content out of our observations and the connections we make between them.
It’s a lot easier to do that when you make a consistent habit of capturing those observations.
4. Get a new outfit
For most of us, our site design should be clean and classic … but that doesn’t mean (at all) that it needs to be boring.
Sometimes, sprucing up your site with a new design can make you see it with completely fresh eyes.
If your site design is looking a little tired, or you just want to spice things up, a new premium WordPress theme can give you the fun of a makeover, without draining your bank account or taking up every minute of your free time to make the switch.
5. Let go of the tedious stuff
Sometimes it’s not your topic you’re tired of … it’s all of the boring work that goes into keeping your site running.
WordPress updates, security patches, theme updates, plugin updates … every one of those offers that wonderful combination of stressful and boring.
Once you’ve been spoiled by the ease of a solution like StudioPress Sites to handle that stuff for you, you won’t want to go back. Fortunately, StudioPress Sites includes a lot of functional power for a super reasonable price, so you won’t have to.
6. Hold a Q&A session
One of my favorite content energizers is a simple Q&A session.
An audience Q&A can make all the difference if you’re:
Bored with your topic
Struggling with impostor syndrome
Not sure what your next (or first) product or service should be
Trying to find topics to write about
Unsure about a big decision for your business or website
Holding them is easy. Make a broadcast to every channel you can reach — your Twitter following, your email list, your Facebook page, all of them. Let your people know that you’re going to be answering their questions about your topic.
Collect the questions in advance. That gives you time to research the ones you’re not 100 percent sure about and weed out any that just aren’t relevant to most of your audience.
Deliver the answers during a webinar, or a conference call, or a series of podcast episodes, or a series of blog posts, or a video series … you get the idea.
Collecting questions and answering them is an efficient way to get a lot smarter about your topic. It also lets you know exactly what your audience is having problems with.
And it’s a fabulous confidence booster to realize that you actually can help people who are struggling with your subject.
7. Connect
So much creative work is about putting your head down and getting it done. Doing the writing, the scripting, the recording.
Focus is a beautiful thing. But you need to interleave your focused time with a wider view.
How could you spend some social time in your space? Is there a live event you’ve been meaning to go to? A monthly Meetup in your town? A group of content creators or business owners you could join for coffee every couple of weeks?
If face-to-face is impossible, try to put together a small group that gets together over Skype, Google Hangouts, or a group call.
Humans need other humans. Look for ways to connect more meaningfully with folks who do what you do.
8. Highlight your community
Along with making time to connect regularly with your fellow humans, it’s also energizing to make time to celebrate them.
Are there folks in your audience doing amazing things? Write about them! Give them a platform to share their successes.
Who are the key players you admire in your topic? Highlight their work, link to their content, invite them on your podcast.
Telling your community’s stories is a time-honored way to remember why you loved your topic in the first place.
9. Play to your strengths
Maybe you’re gifted with words, but your design sense leaves a lot to be desired. Or the other way around — your design skills are great, but the word-put-togethering isn’t so hot.
We’re all good at some things and lousy at others. Getting good isn’t usually a matter of innate talent — it’s a question of putting the time in to go far beyond the ordinary.
But we don’t have enough time to be wonderful at everything — and there are always tasks we just don’t particularly like.
When you can, try to focus your site around your strengths. If writing is your strong suit, you might leave video content for later. If you have a great speaking voice, or you can draw well, or you’re fantastic at creating systems, leverage those skills on your site.
Figure out where your strengths are, and then figure out how you can use them to craft your competitive advantage.
10. Out yourself
Been trying to play it safe? Maybe you’ve been hiding something that matters deeply to you, because you’re afraid of chasing your audience away.
That’s not how this works.
I’m not a fan of sites where every single post is a rant — but those sites have lots of fans. If that’s who you truly are … rant on.
And even if you aren’t, letting the world know where you stand, talking about some of your most deeply-held values, will bring incredible energy to your work.
Exposing the real stuff is scary. But so is obscurity. Hiding behind a mask of blandness won’t protect you; it will just become your prison.
Bonus: Play
And here’s the one that will make all of the others work better:
Remember to play.
If life’s not a game, you’re doing it wrong.
Have fun with your writing. Challenge yourself with your content. Experiment and noodle. Play around, goof around, try things. Don’t take yourself too seriously.
This isn’t a call to be trivial … far from it. Play can be deep, too.
But we’re intelligent critters, and intelligent critters play. It’s how we get smarter, it’s how we connect to one another, and it’s how we create lives of meaning.
How about you?
