I just need someone to write a Chenford friends with benefits story. Not him helping her get back out there. Not undercover. Not some weird dare. Just them being friends with benefits until one of them realizes feelings. Tim preferably. Anyway. Thanks for letting me use this space to vent it out.
I need this too!
Tell me all the stories you want! I have a few ideas in my head, and I LOVE hearing what other people want to read! It is always cool (and, let’s be honest, a little strange too!) to hear what other people are imagining for our favourite couple. Fandom is at its best when it allows a wide variety of ideas.
Back in April (?) there were a few people who did a couple of season 1 hook up fics - they are almost FWB-y, and definitely avoid the UC tropes, or Lucy getting back into dating. I encourage everyone to abandon canon and write the fics they want to read! That is LITERALLY the point of fic.
Tim and Lucy deserve a million stories, especially ones that diverge from canon. Be a proud part of the ‘Let Lucy Get Laid Brigade’, because jealous Tim is a delight.

Hi! I forgot to include this in my previous ask. "With pretty much everything" (ref my previous post) I meant that I agreed with every point you made, but I had not heard the term «woobification» before and was curious what it meant. Do you want to expand on that? :)
Wow, so you went hard on the last ask and gave me a bunch of questions 😂 (which I appreciate!) but I figured I'd answer this first because your other ask will probably take me a while... And will probably get broken up into sections just because I talk a lot when left to my own devices.
Woobification (which is fandom term) refers to the process of a character becoming or being turned into a "woobie" and honestly, I cannot do this concept justice so I will leave it to TV Tropes because they're an amazing resource and because they have comprehensive articles and subarticles on it.
The first paragraph sums it up pretty well but there are subtropes worth reading about. For the record:
A "woobie" is a name for any type of characters who make you feel extremely sorry for them. Basically, the first thing you think to say when you see the woobie is: "Aw, poor baby!" Woobification of a character is a curious, audience-driven phenomenon, sometimes divorced from the character's canonical morality.
Tim Bradford fits the trope in a lot of ways. I love Tim's character in S1-S2. He's complex and complicated, hurt and angry, but still compassionate and willing to listen. Much like Lucy, he's capable of acknowledging his wrongs and growing from them. That starts changing in S3 and by S4, he didn't seem like the same character, nor would I call his changes "growth" because there was no actual evidence of any growth. Just that he went away over summer hiatus and came back different.
The fandom focuses a lot, I think, on his pain and his experiences. I've noticed it since way back in S2 but it feels like it's gotten progressively worse. Although chenford is the main ship, it doesn't always feel like Lucy is an actual person (or character) in her own right, especially lately. Her trauma becomes about Tim's role in saving/supporting her, her career path becomes about Tim's past hurts, her sexual and reproductive choices becomes about Tim's dreams and desires.
Canon has done this too, led the way even, I think, and that sucks. As far as I'm concerned, Lucy deserves better and, you know what? So does Tim.

Danny Pino is stupid hot and as Angela’s oldest brother Gabriel Lopez I really see this going well for Lucy. Cheers to @crose84 for pointing out in their post today that Lucy definitely has a type and it seems to be older and divorced. I ran with that. I also just really want Nyla, Angela and Lucy to be real friends. Plus Angela and Nyla would 100% be on the get Lucy laid brigade. Also in this Tamara is away for the weekend okay??
_______________________________________________________________________
The only reason Lucy decides to make an appearance at Nolan’s soon to be annual Holiday bash is because he was so damn excited about it and honestly, she really wasn’t ready to be alone over the holidays. So she puts on a a festive dress and forces Nyla to join her. The first thing she does upon arrival is grab a full bottle of red wine from the serve-yourself-bar (Nolan’s first mistake of the night, really) and raises an eyebrow at Nyla who nods.
Dodging the other party goers, the two woman immeditely sequestered themselves to a corner of the room with the commandeered bottle, and Nyla efficiently popped the cork pouring large glasses for the both of them.
“So I know why I’m drinking tonight, what’s your reason?” Nyla asks after they cheers and both take far too long of a sip.
“Too many to count.”
Lucy thinks of the gifts she bought for Jackson months ago hidden in the back of her closet, she thinks of the presents she will be mailing to her parents instead of delivering in person, and she really tries not to think about Tim across the room with his hand on Ashley’s lower back.
The wine helps.
“Feel that.” Nyla lets out a big sigh and takes another gulp, “Wanna talk about it?”
“Not tonight.”
Nyla nods slowly, and offers Lucy a soft understanding smile, “Maybe tomorrow.”
“Yeah, maybe tomorrow.” Lucy returns the smile as best she can, and the other woman nudges her shoulder in a show of support.
Everyone seems to be in a festive mood, and it makes Lucy happy to see her people happy even if she didn’t feel up to partaking in it. Nolan and Aaron are sitting on the couch, laughing and watching Smitty who had clearly already had too much eggnog and was trying to start a dance floor while Grey turned up the volume on the Christmas carols.
It’s bittersweet without Jackson, and it makes Lucy’s heart ache in a particularly painful type of way. She takes a bigger sip of her wine, she just wants to have fun tonight and forget about everything else. She doesn’t think the wine is going to cut it but John didn’t supply any tequila.
Nyla’s voice shakes her out of her thoughts, “Damn, who is that?”
“Who?”
The who is answered very quickly, because behind Angela, Wesley and Baby Jack making their grand appearance is an extremely handsome man Lucy has never seen before who is carrying the baby’s diaper bag, and it’s an ode to his attractiveness that it does absolutely nothing to dampen it.
“Jesus, that man is fine.” Whistles Nyla and Lucy can’t help but laugh, it feels good to be gossiping in the corner over a glass of wine like they’re normal people.
“He really is.”
Angela clocks them hiding in the corner, immediately hands the baby to her husband and grabs an empty glass on her way over to the two woman. “Top me up please ASAP, I’ve already pumped and I’m looking to get tipsy.”
Lucy nods and tips the bottle into her glass, giving her a more than generous pour, “Yes m’am.”
“Who is that man with Wesley that you brought in?” Nyla asks, as Angela takes a large sip.
Angela laughs, “That’s my oldest brother Gabriel, he’s recently divorced and I felt like he could do with a night out with some new people.”
Lucy watches the man in question over her wine glass, he’s undoubtedly attractive but that doesn’t really surprise her, the Lopez’s have good genes.
Nyla smirks and nudges Lucy, “Hey Lucy, he’s just your type, older and divorced.”
Angela lets out a loud laugh and Lucy rolls her eyes but can’t help but laugh with them, “Oh my god, shut up. I knew it was a mistake to tell you two about Nolan. It was in the academy! And you two got me drunk on wine to reveal all my secrets!”
Angela raises a knowing eyebrow, “I don’t think she was just talking about Nolan.”
Lucy pointedly ignores her even though she knows what Lopez is none to subtly hinting at. Lucy having any sort of feelings or ideas around Tim has never been mentioned with our without wine, nor will they ever be. That is firmly hidden away in the deep compartments of her brain that only arise in sleep and her weaker moments .
Angela finishes her glass and holds it to Nyla for a refill before taking a scan of the room and her eyes lighting up at whatever she sees, “Lucy, can you go grab me a snack from the food table?”
Lucy turns towards the table in question and sees Gabriel there holding Jack and perusing the food selection. “Seriously? You’re not even trying to be subtle about this.”
“Yep. You’re not going to deny a new mother sustenance are you?”
Lucy rolls her eyes and lets out a huff before placing her wine glass down,  “Of course not.”
She pulls her high pony a little tighter and makes her way over, standing next to Angela’s brother and waving her fingers in baby Jack’s direction cooing at him, “Hi cutie, how are you doing?”
Gabriel looks up from the charcuterie spread and grins at her, “That’s forward.”
Lucy lets out a loud laugh, “Don’t get cocky, you know I was talking to Jack.”
“Well, maybe Jack can introduce me to the pretty lady.”
The boy in question simply looks between the two of them and blows a raspberry and they both laugh at his antics. He reaches for Lucy and Gabriel easily hands him over and once in Lucy’s arms, Jack immediately tries to reach for one of her hoops.
She shifts Jack to rest on one of her hips and holds out a hand, which he takes in his larger one, “Lucy, I work with Angela.”
“I’m Gabe. My sister told me about you.”
 “I bet she did.”
“Angela’s a meddler. Just like my mother.”
“She is.” Lucy spares a glance in Angela’s direction and sees her and Nyla intently watching them so she stick out her tongue at them. Jack copies her and Lucy laughs again, Gabe joins in the laughter and her heart already feels a little lighter.
Gabe tickles Jack’s side and offers another smile to Lucy, they’re easily won and there is something that feels so simple about it all, “She also has good instincts.”
Lucy isn’t sure where he’s going with that but she’s intrigued enough to find out, “She does. Hell of a detective.”
Gabe shuffles his feet a little and for the first time that night he looks a little nervous (but still so so handsome), “Angela also told me she thought we would hit it off.”
Lucy can’t help the wide smile nor the blush that crosses her face, “So far, so good.”
“How about I return this child to his parents and me and you go get a drink somewhere besides this party?”
It’s forward and far too quick but Lucy had been wanting to leave the party the moment she arrived and leaving with an insanely attractive man feels on the right side of reckless, “What did you have in mind?”
“I know this really great tequila bar around the corner, if you’re interested.”
If Gabe hadn’t already charmed her before, that would have done it.
Still, Lucy can’t help but be unsure, “You don’t want to stay? You only just arrived?”
Gabe shrugs, his smile bordering on cocky and it does things to Lucy, “Honestly, I only came because Angela said she would introduce me to you.”
The blush that Lucy thought she had tempered erupts full force at his honesty, and she bites her lip, far too pleased with his attention, “Alright, that sounds perfect, let me deliver this snack to your sister, you give Jack back to Wesley and I’ll meet you at the door.”
“Perfect.”
Lucy turns on her heel with a plate of cheese and cured meat, dropping it beside Angela and grabbing her coat. Nyla and Angela are watching her with poorly disguised smirks covering their faces and she wills the blush away.
“So…How’d that go?” Angela asks, looking far too pleased with herself.
Lucy laughs and tosses her long ponytail over her shoulder as she grabs her purse, and downs the rest of her wine, “I’m leaving. Don’t wait up.”
The catcalls the two women make as Lucy walks away draws the attention of the room and she shakes her head, losing all hope at a subtle exit. Tim makes eye contact with her across the room and raises his eyebrows in question and she quickly looks away from him, because honestly it’s the last damn thing she needs. That and he’s still glued to Ashley’s side.
Lucy meets Gabe at the door, and he’s standing there in his black pea coat, dark hair and dark eyes and he’s so fucking sexy she almost can’t believe it. So she makes a decision.
They step out together into the cooler night air on Nolan’s veranda and Lucy takes the chance to lean in closer to Gabe’s personal space, looking up at him through her eyelashes and running a hand across his lapels, “I’ve got tequila at my place.”
Lucy doesn’t miss how his eyes darken and his breath speeds up and she certainly doesn’t miss the sweep of his heated gaze up and down her body, Gabe smiles and grabs her hand, “Lead the way.”

Eddie Cahill as Sergeant Adam O’Brien.
Tumblr media
"He’s perfect for you,” Aaron says confidently, “older, divorced, and white.” He grins widely at her.
Lucy looks up from the photo on Aaron’s cell phone to glare at him. “I will leave you alone at the rookie table.” Getting drunk with Aaron after a particularly brutal shift and spilling her guts about her affair with John and attraction to Tim will never not be a deep regret if this is the thanks she gets. Her mind drifts back to that night. How desperately she’d needed someone to talk to. How achingly she’d missed Jackson.
“Joking aside, he’s a great guy. I think you guys will hit it off.” Thorsen takes his cell phone back from Lucy and slips it in his pocket.
“He is hot,” Lucy concedes as she reaches for her iced tea. “He’s a cop? A sergeant?”
Aaron nods. Takes a bite of his burger, chews slowly, buying himself a minute."Yes, out of Rampart,” he answers, “he was my teacher at the academy. Led a class about working with child victims and witnesses.” Aaron takes a drink of his soda. “He knew who I was. Gave me a fair chance.” Still, checks in every so often to make sure Mid-Wilshire is treating him well.
She sees Tim rise from his table, collecting his garbage along with Nyla’s and Angela’s. Proof he can be a gentleman when he wants. She knows she has one minute before he’s looming over her ready to get back on the street. Quickly, she stuffs the rest of her fish tacos in her mouth, washes them down with the last of her iced tea. “Fine, yes. Give him my number.” She calls over her shoulder to Aaron as she scrambles to throw her trash away and get over to the shop before Tim has a chance to roll his eyes at her while he snaps at her to hurry up.
Lucy wasn’t sure she would actually hear from Adam. It wasn’t that she doubted Aaron exactly, but, well, it has been a while since Emmett and for a lot of reasons her dating life has taken a backseat. Maybe it has shaken her confidence a bit. Maybe misreading things with Tim in the aftermath of the disaster of a wedding and all that came after had shaken her confidence. But she had heard from Adam, a text message the night before as she was collapsing on her couch to order take out and catch up on the contents of her DVR.
Lucy takes one final look at herself in the locker room mirror, smoothing her hands down her dress to rid it of invisible wrinkles. She’s paired a navy floral print dress with ankle booties. Her hair is down in soft waves and she’s satisfied with the way she was able to transition her makeup from day to evening. Not bad, she decides, for throwing the whole look together in less than a half-hour with no backup options and harsh fluorescent lighting.
She feels two pairs of eyes on her the second she enters the lobby, lets her gaze follow the heat from them across the room. She spots Adam, and she’s pretty sure her stomach flips. He was undeniably hot in the photo Aaron showed her at lunch yesterday. The photo had not done him justice. In person, even across the room, he is gorgeous.
Of course, he’s talking to Tim. Of course, they know each other. Are friendly at the very least going off their relaxed stances and shared laughter. It’s a little disconcerting the way they are both looking her over. She wonders if they realize they are both doing it. “Adam,” she smiles warmly at him as she stops in front of them. “Tim.” Her smile for him is a little tighter.
Tim swallows but finds his voice first. “A little overdressed for Del Torro, arent you, Chen?” He manages to put some bite and annoyance back into his voice.
Lucy bristles at the dismissive tone that’s become commonplace over the last few months.
Adam laughs and claps Tim on the shoulder. “Come on, Timmy, I can do better than a dive bar on a first date with a beautiful woman.” He holds out his arm for Lucy. “Shall we?”
Lucy feels her smile grow wider as she loops her arm through Adam’s. She looks over at Tim briefly. “Enjoy your night out.” She assumes he’s meeting up with their friends for drinks after shift.
Tim doesn’t answer, just watches them walk away, Lucy’s melodic laughter at whatever Adam is saying reaches his ears, makes his jaw clench.
The next morning Lucy slides into roll call seconds before it is about to begin. Nolan and Thorsen have saved her a seat between them. She’s humming under her breath when she drops into it. “Gentlemen.”
Nolan looks between Lucy and Thorsen. “Someone’s chipper this morning.”
“Guess things went well with Adam.” Aaron chuckles, but he’s genuinely happy to be right about two good people hitting it off.
Lucy just smiles widely at them, keeps humming while they wait for Grey to start their morning meeting. She’s not going to let good-natured teasing bring down her mood.
“Knock it off, Chen.” Tim’s gruff voice comes from behind her.
She rolls her eyes, but even he’s not going to ruin her day. Not today.

* opens gay agenda*
I'm just saying, Katie Barnes could come back 👀. Maybe Lucy starts going to a new gym and there she is. Katie's working as a personal trainer there. Lucy asks how she's been, they catch up and Katie asks her out for a drink. One drink turns into two, two drinks turns into flirting, flirting turns into kissing, and kissing turns into going home with Katie that night. Katie's been working on feeling better, she's smart and very reserved, but also charming and sweet. And so hot! They have a lot of fun together, she treats her well, and Lucy decides she likes her very much. Before Lucy knows it, they've been dating for a couple months... And Tim suddenly can't say "he's clearly not the right guy for you." anymore.

[i was only going to do one of these, but then this hit me. I HAD TO. plus, i had a few days’ cushion!]
CHRIS LOWELL AS FOREST BANKERT | for @crose84‘s 31 days of loving for lucy event
lucy’s no stranger to coming out the hero of many a horrible situation. she never intends to be noteworthy in any way, always focuses on doing her job and keeping collateral damage to a minimum.
sometimes, though, a spotlight is all but guaranteed.
so when a reporter knocks cautiously on the doorframe of her hospital room, four days after she’d saved the mayor’s toddler twins from the watery conclusion of a high-speed attempted kidnapping - breaking herself in multiple places and almost drowning in the process - she’s not all that surprised.
she is intrigued, though, when his soft smile sends a spark of excitement up her spine. she tells herself it’s a weird reaction to the morphine drip. but then, even before introducing himself, he shares -
‘i wanted to email you, but my editor insisted i come down in person. he’s more concerned with being potentially sued for libel than letting an injured first responder recuperate in peace.’ there’s an added growl of ‘idiot’ too.
lucy laughs, an action her various injuries protest furiously against, and invites him in. ‘i brought you - ‘ he carefully passes her a starbucks cup as he sits in the only visitor’s chair. ‘your sergeant pointed me in the direction of liquid comfort when i asked what you liked.’
they talk for two hours; his interview questions are taken care of in forty minutes.
forest’s article makes the paper the day she’s discharged. she calls him - he’d given her his number in case she’d thought of an addition or had any questions. when he wonders what she’s doing, she answers, ‘waiting for my uber’ almost automatically.
‘cancel that. what if it’s one of those eco-friendly cars the size of a hot wheel? your acl immobilizer won’t stand a chance. i’ll be there in fifteen.’

Whenever someone mentions a first love, there is only one person that Lucy can think of.
Ethan Rosenberg.
She thinks of his shaking hands on the exposed skin of her back, in the prom dress her own mother had called ‘distasteful’, and how they had stayed out all night. Lucy had never felt that intoxication buzz of awareness with someone before. How just his voice on the phone, in her room late at night, had made her ache with longing.
That’s who she thinks of when people mention a first love, even if she never said those exact words.

31 Days of loving - Day 2/31
Lucy sees him in the distance and there’s a faint twinge of recognition but he’s still far away and her mind files it away as background information, not something that really matters enough to jump to the front of her mind.  She makes her way into the bar having already forgotten whoever she thought she saw.  She spots Tim and Jackson along side Angela and Wesley and heads over, pushing in beside Tim.
“Sorry I’m late, Smitty caught me as I was heading out and tried to sell me Mary Kay products?”  She turns to Angela, on the inside of the booth, beside Jackson.  “Did you know that was still a thing?”  Angela gives a short nod and laughs.
“At least two of my aunts are still devoted buyers.”  It looks like she’s about to elaborate when a loud cheer goes up from a table in the corner and attracts their attention.  Lucy’s brain helpfully conjures up the memories when she sees who’s sudden appearance they’re so excited for.
Tumblr media
Jake Warner, captain of the football team, prom king, lead in the school play...  And the boy she “lost her virginity” to at Homecoming in her junior year.  Her eyes go wide for a minute as the memory of rough hands on her skin and long, lanky limbs tangled with hers raises her temperature and her breath catches.  They had dated for six whole months while he was a senior which in high school was the equivalent of a lifetime.
He was cute then, the patrician nose and sharp jawline only hinting at his future handsomeness, lingering baby fat still softening his face just a little.  It was LA and he played sports so he’d been as buff as a teenager could be but now, he was dressed sharply, his jaw could cut glass, and he had grown into a damn fine-looking man.
Fingers snapping in her face draws her attention back to the group.  She frowns at Tim and pushes his hand out of her face.
“Please don’t do that to me.  Do I look like Kojo?”  He gives her an unimpressed once over before muttering something under his breath.  “Excuse me?”  She raises an eyebrow and he turns more fully toward her, everyone else observing the exchange with varying levels of interest.
“You don’t look like Kojo, no.  He was easier to train.”
Lucy reminds herself that he is still a superior officer and while he may not be directly responsible for her job anymore, throwing a drink in his face would still have consequences.
“While it’s nice to know exactly where I rank in the hierarchy of your rookies, I think this is my cue to leave.”  There are immediate protests from everyone but Tim who looks vaguely abashed, like he didn’t quite realize how disdainful of her he came off until he heard it phrased like that.
“Lucy, ignore him.  He’s pissy because Harper kicked his ass at the range yesterday.”
“It’s not him, I promise.”  Lucy summons a smile, however small, and it’s genuine.  “To be honest,” her eyes dart over in the direction of the Jake, but he seems to be missing which means it’s probably the best time to slip out without him noticing.  “My high school boyfriend, one of them anyway, was sitting at the table over there and I’m not in the mood to make polite chit chat after a long shift, you know?”  Angela tries to discreetly glance over but can’t quite peer around Wesley effectively.  Jackson’s eyebrow nearly touches his hairline and Lucy knows they’ll have some talking to do when he gets home tonight.
She turns around and nearly bumps right into Jake.  His arms grab at her elbows, steadying her, and Lucy smiles despite herself.  His hands feel exactly the same.
Tumblr media
“Lucy!  God, I can’t believe it’s you!  It’s been, what, 10 years?”  She nods and tries to match the wide smiles on his face.
“Jake!  It’s so nice to see you...  It really has been a long time, hasn’t it?”  He nods his head enthusiastically in agreement and his energy is exactly the same in high school - kind, high octane, and charming.  “What are you up to now?  Last I heard, you were modelling for a bit, right?”  He nods again.
“Yeah, I put myself through school that way...  Got tired of it pretty quick, though.  I ended up going to med school.  Doing my residency now.”  Lucy’s eyes brighten with genuine joy.
“That’s amazing, Jake!  Congratulations!”  She reaches out to squeeze his arm, her natural affection and the history between them making the touch feel normal, comfortable.
“Thanks...  You look just as beautiful as you did in high school.”  He shakes his head as if it’ll help clear his mind of the all the old memories resurfacing and smiles bashfully.  “What are you doing these days?”
“Ah, I’m a...  I’m a cop.”  She glances over her shoulder and finds Jackson and Angela watching them intently as Wesley checks his phone.  She can’t quite bring herself to look at Tim and see the judgement she’s sure is there.  “These are actually friends that I work with.”  Jake glances over her shoulder, not hard to do from where he towers over her, and waves.  Angela and Jackson wave back in unison.
“Listen,” Jake puts his hand on her wrist with a gentle squeeze, “I would love to catch up more but I’m out with some friends from work too - can I give you my number and we can make plans?”  Lucy nods and they exchange numbers and that’s that.  He leans down and presses a kiss to her cheek.  “It was really good to see you, Lucy.”  One final smile and he’s gone, another cheer, a little more drunken this time, arising when he gets back to his table.
“Lucy, if you don’t bang that dude, I will.”
“Ange, I’m sitting right here.”  Wesley’s indignant squawk is ignored.
“Been there, done that.”  Her words are barely a whisper under her breath.  Tim doesn’t think she meant anyone to hear them, but he does anyway.  It makes his shoulders tighten and his spine stiffen.  Chen can’t seem to keep her personal life private and it irritates him to no end.  That’s it, that’s definitely the problem.
Lucy laughs off Angela’s remark but she doesn’t offer any denials either.  She says her goodbyes, a spring in her step that wasn’t there before.  Suddenly, a long day gets longer for Tim.

This time Lucy meets Mark Callan from All Rise, I’m not overly attached to that show or its Canon but I am attached to Wilson Bethel cause he is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥.
Tumblr media
Lucy is cuddled on the couch with baby Jack, just as content and sleepy as the milk-drunk infant. She watches lazily from her place on the cushions as Angela applies her makeup in the hallway mirror.
“Come on Lucy, you’re coming out with me and Wesley tonight. We even hired a babysitter!”
Lucy shakes her head and kisses the top of the baby’s soft head, “Cancel the babysitter, I’ll stay with him.”
Angela frowns at her, “No you’re coming, you can’t cancel now.”
“I was just going to be the third wheel anyways. Why does it matter?”
She huffs and shifts back to the mirror, avoiding eye contact with Lucy, “Because you’re already dressed up and it will be fun.”
Angela has always worn her heart on her sleeve, her passion and empathy is what makes her such a good Detective, mom and friend. It does not make her a good liar. Lucy scoffs, and eyes her until she breaks.
Angela places her hands on her hips and uses a no nonsense tone, “Okay, we may have invited someone for you.”
“I don’t want to be set up. Especially by way of an ambush!”
Angela rolls her eyes, “It’s not an ambush Lucy, his name is Mark Callan he’s a Deputy District Attorney and friends with Wesley. He’s blonde, blue eyes and dreamy as hell. Plus he just had a super messy breakup with his fiancé.”
Lucy snorts and shakes her head, “And you thought hey, just Lucy’s type?”
“I’m sorry are you about to argue with me that you’re not attracted to handsome brooding men who are recently out of complicated, messy relationships?” Angela’s gives her a pointed look, and really they could be talking about Nolan but Lucy isn’t that naive. She chooses to ignore the dig.
“Right so in the interest of personal growth, I should run in the farthest direction away from this man.”
“You don’t have to date him!”
“I’m not coming.”
“At least look at a picture.”
“Fine.”
Angela holds out her phone and Lucy grabs it from her, and alright, so the man in question is extremely fucking hot. And unfortunately her immediate attraction to him makes Lucy worry that she actually really does have a type and that blonde hair and blue eyes really works for her.
“Fine, I’ll come.”
“Hah! I knew it!” Angela crows in triumph, “But we’ve got to get you a different top, this one doesn’t show nearly enough cleavage.”
Lucy laughs, but shifts Jack on to her hip and follows Angela into the bedroom to change anyways.
***
By the end of the dinner, Lucy knows four things for sure about Mark Callan. He is sexy as hell, extremely smart, wonderfully witty and also so clearly fucked up from his most recent break up that heartbreak is written all over him.
It’s not to say they don’t hit it off, the conversation is easy and the blouse Angela lent her does great things for her boobs and he definitely notices. But it still surprises her when Angela and Wesley have to take off to relieve the babysitter, Mark asks her to stay for one more drink.
Angela leaves with a waggle of her eyebrows and a kiss to the top of Lucy’s head. Lucy laughs and rolls her eyes, shooing her away, but happily orders another glass of wine when the server stops by the table. Mark orders an old fashion and she likes that in a man.
“So Wesley told me Angela filled you in about my dumpster fire of a break up.”
Lucy lets out a surprised laugh, “Only the basics, but I am sorry to hear about it. Break ups are never easy.”
“Thanks, it’s been rough,” Mark takes a sip of his drink, and smirks at her over the glass, his eyes roving across her face and catching on her red lips, “Things are looking up though.”
Lucy purses her lips and offers a flirty tilt of her head, “I’m glad you think so.”
There’s a moment of charged silence between them, and Lucy is more than pleasantly surprised about how her night has turned out, but she has to ask, “So why’d you say yes to this set up?”
Mark shrugs and leans back in his chair, “Wesley showed me a picture of you, it was an easy decision.”
Lucy feels her cheeks flush with the compliment and she can’t help but laugh, “That’s how Angela got me here too.”
“Well, here’s to being photogenic. And looking even more gorgeous in person.” Mark raises his glass and she clinks her own against his, his eyes follow her mouth as she takes a sip and swallows.
Lucy feels sexy and empowered under Mark’s heavy gaze, and she feels her self preening under it, soaking up the attention gladly of a handsome and smart man.
So it feels like a cruel twist of fate that Tim and Ashley walk in, hand in hand following the host to a table across the room. Lucy nearly spits out her wine, because honestly the world cannot be this cruel to her, “Fuck me.”
Mark looks in the same direction and snorts. “Gladly. But I feel like this isn’t about me.”
“Oh my god, shut up, don’t look at them!” Lucy laughs and places a hand on his cheek to turn his face away from staring at the other couple.
“Who is it? Your ex?”
“No, my old TO and current Sergeant with his new girlfriend.”
Maybe its the way she says girlfriend, but Mark raises his eyebrows,  “Complicated history or something?”
“Something like that”
Mark laughs, “At least we’re both train wrecks in the relationship department.”
“Quite the pair.”
It seems like Mark can’t help himself but look back over at Tim and Ashley and Lucy hisses at him to cut it out.
“He’s definitely seen us, and definitely knows it’s you.”
She doesn’t know if it’s the three glasses of wine she’s had or Mark’s cheeky smirk but despite her panic she can’t help but let out a loud laugh at the situation, “Oh my God, stop looking I don’t want to deal with him right now.”
“Oh shit, I think he’s about to come over.”
“Stop, no he’s not.” She’s fully giggling now, and grabbing at the lapel of Mark’s jacket in an effort to get him to turn, “Could you be any more obvious?”
He finally turns back around and smirks at her, “I know of a way to stop him.”
“I’m all ears.”
Mark leans across the table, a strong hand cupping her face and kisses her with so much passion she almost completely forgets about Tim watching them across the room. It’s far too heated of a kiss to be appropriate for a nice restaurant, his tongue slipping into her mouth and his big hand winding into her hair as her grip tightens on his lapel, pulling him closer. Lucy can’t bring herself to care because she hasn’t been kissed since Emmet, and Mark is so damn attractive and fuck he’s a good kisser.
He pulls away, leaving Lucy momentarily speechless and flushed. It helps her ego that he looks similarly affected. He takes a glance over at the other table, “Well, he’s certainly not coming over anymore.”
“Good.” She’s still a little breathless, it was a hell of a kiss
Mark finishes his drink and nods at her, “Wanna get out of here?”
The answer is easy to give, “Yes.”
They stand up and Mark throws more than enough cash on the table to cover their drinks before he helps her into her jacket, the lingering hand on her waist a promise of more to come.
On their way out, she can’t help herself but look for Tim, only to find him already watching her. They make eye contact for a brief moment before she nods at him in acknowledgement, his jaw clenches and he turns back to Ashley.
Once they’re outside, Mark leans against the side of the restaurant and gives her a rueful grin, “I don’t know how to say this without sounding like a complete douchebag.”
Lucy laughs, it’s been nice, she’s being doing it all night, “Try me.”
“I’m still really fucked up from my break up.”
She nods, but she still takes a step closer to him, “And you’re not looking for anything serious.”
His nod confirms it, “It feels like a case of really bad timing, you’re honestly my dream girl. But I’m a mess and I’m not looking to make anyone a rebound.”
Lucy doesn’t care about being a rebound, she cares about continuing the kiss they had inside somewhere private, “What if I said I wasn’t looking for anything serious either?”
“I’d ask you if it has anything to do with the man inside.”
“I’d plead the fifth.”
Mark reaches out a hand and pulls Lucy by her jacket so she’s flush against him, “You must know law talk turns me on.”
Lucy tilts her head, running her hands across his broad chest and up around his neck, “So if we’re both not looking for anything serious…”
“Then my next question is, your place or mine?”
“Yours.”
Mark leans in for another kiss and it’s equally as tempting as the first, before he ends it and steps onto the street to hail a cab, “You’re staying the night though, I make a mean omelette you’ve gotta stick around for.”
“Can’t wait.”
I firmly believe they would continue to be fuck buddies for a few months and it would all end amicably around the same time Tim and Ashley call it off (weirdly enough) and they would stay friends after.

For @crose84's 31 Days of Loving for Lucy)
Tumblr media
Kimball Cho (Tim Kang) is a veritable badass, with a heart of gold. He's the first person in the door, the one who wrestles suspects into the handcuffs, and the one who (often) empathizes with victims and suspects alike.
Tumblr media
He's a closed book to strangers and colleagues. But with close friends and family, he wears his heart on his sleeve. He is always there for his friends, even if he doesn't agree with their decisions or actions.
Tumblr media
That's the kind of guy our Lucy deserves.

Bryan Greenberg as Ben Feldman
“Chen!“ Smitty calls loudly enough for the whole of the bullpen to hear. “Your boyfriend stopped by, left you that.” He gestures vaguely to a desk behind him as he moves past her.
Lucy feels Tim stiffen behind her and turns to give him a confused look and small shrug. On the desk Smitty indicated sits the biggest bouquet of flowers she’s ever seen.
“You can’t accept those.” Tim tells her matter of factly.
She turns to him again, this time to shoot him a glare. “You don’t even know who they’re from.”
He fights the urge to roll his eyes at her. He knows exactly who they’re from. The douchebag agent with the drunk douchebag client, star running back Marcus Evans, from earlier.
He’d so obviously been interested in Lucy. Tim wasn’t blind. He’d seen the way the man had looked at Lucy, how he directed most of the conversation her direction.
Ignoring Tim for a moment she searches for a card amongst the fragrant blooms. “They’re from Ben.”
“Like I said you can’t accept them.”
“Box seats at any sporting event I want.” For a moment she’s transported back to a summer afternoon at Dodger Stadium, Jackson by her side. He would have liked box seats.
“Can’t accept those either.” Tim tells her.
Lucy glares at him again. “He encouraged us to arrest his douchebag client and to let him sit in jail no special treatment. No where in the note does he ask me to do anything to help Marcus. All this note does is tell me that I’m beautiful and ask me out on a date.” To any sporting event she wanted. Or dinner if sporting events weren’t her thing. Or both dinner and an event. She liked a man who made his interest clear.
“It’s a conflict of interest.”
“I’ll disclose to Grey.” That should cover her if Ben were to try to get her to help Marcus, but she is pretty sure if he wanted help he would have just asked at the scene. And would have asked Tim, not a lowly P2 like her. “Unless of course there’s some other reason you don’t want me to go on a date with a nice guy who thinks I’m beautiful.” She stares him straight in the eye while she waits for his response.
For a moment Lucy thinks he might be debating saying something meaningful. Something beyond the surface banter that has become their new normal. Instead, he mutters something about her doing whatever she wants and stalks off.

Riley Green as Carson Williams
---
Lucy Chen never once thought that picking up an extra shift would result in her working a concert but she wasn't going to complain. Ok, maybe she would complain a little because country music most certainly wasn't her genre of choice but it could be worse, she could be out working the streets in the above average temperatures of August. Never the less, she was most certainly thankful for the opportunity to work her shift in a temperature controlled setting.
She's not sure how it happened really, one minute she is showing her badge and proof of assignment and the next she's quite literally running into rising country superstar Carson Williams.
"Please don't freak out." Lucy muttered under her breath before she profusely began to apologize. She retracted her hands away from their hold on the stranger's shirt as she looked up the grinning face that was looking down at her.
Lucy gave him a quick once over, more categorizing the person for any threats than admiring but she had to admit that he was handsome in his simple well-worn blue jeans and light blue shirt that complimented his eyes. His stubble was long but neatly trimmed, and curly brown locks peeked out from underneath the trucker hat he wore.
"No complaints out of me sweetheart." He told her with a southern drawl as he grinned. The country musician was not the bad boy of the genre, quite the opposite actually, but Lucy knew trouble when she seen it. "Don't think it'll leave a bruise but I wouldn't mind exchanging information, you know, for other reasons."
She was so screwed.

ANA DE ARMAS AS DETECTIVE REBECCA LEIGHTON
Another year; another LAPD fundraiser. Lucy gestured to the bartender for another club soda with a lime twist and readjusted her shawl to make sure it was covering the scars from the bullet wounds she’d earned in a firefight last summer. It was a goddamn shame to waste a dress like this one on a night like this. The ballroom was packed with men in Armani suits and women in Valentino dresses and diamond earrings that cost more than Lucy could make on a lifetime of LAPD salary. The air reeked of expensive cologne and scotch, and the 5-piece orchestra was playing just a little too loud. Lucy was very aware that this fundraiser was not for the likes of a lowly patrol cop—unless said lowly patrol cop happened to fit the LAPD’s diversity hiring initiative. Lucy had pretty much reached her limit for answering intrusive, ignorant questions about her gritty and exciting job as a female cop in LA. Lucy could handle the standard morbid curiosity questions—Did it hurt to get shot? How many people have you killed in the line of duty? What’s the worst thing you’ve ever seen on the job?—without so much as blinking. It was the political questions that set her teeth on edge. Well, that and the blatant sexual harassment by the wealthy suits in the room. Lucy glanced down the bar and her eyes caught on a woman standing with her back to the glossy wood, surveying the room thoughtfully. One finger played idly with the stem of a sweating martini glass. Rebecca Leighton. Lucy had never met Detective Rebecca Leighton in person, but Lucy knew her career well. The youngest female detective in the LAPD who came face-to-face with a serial killer last year—and won. The case had made national news, along with a photo of her at the crime scene, glaring at the reporter’s camera as she pressed a hand to the bloody wound in her shoulder. Rebecca Leighton looked very different tonight than she had in that photo. Lucy could see the ragged red scar slashing downward, splitting tawny skin from collarbone to the plunging neckline of her satin navy dress, but the scar wasn’t what drew Lucy’s eyes. It was the quiet confidence and controlled grace she radiated. She had trained to make her body a weapon and wasn’t afraid to use it. Rebecca’s head turned. She had cop eyes that could find a watcher in the crowd, just like Lucy could. Her dark eyes were sharp and alert, and Lucy felt the force of the woman’s gaze all the way down her spine. Her cheekbones and jaw were all angles and strength, but her short dark hair softened the lines of her face. A slow, hesitant smile that spread across her face when she met Lucy’s eyes. Lucy felt her body respond, lighting up from the inside, lips lifting in a smile. It felt impossible to do anything except move closer. Lucy tugged off her shawl and dropped it over the back of the barstool, barely feeling the sting of the chilly air on her exposed skin. It felt different to carry the scars proudly. Better. Truthful. Free. A moment later, Lucy had another reason to be glad she’d abandoned the shawl as Rebecca’s eyes traced slowly down her body. Lucy felt her skin spark as if the other woman’s gaze was a physical touch. Rebecca’s smile warmed at Lucy’s approach, and she set her drink on the glossy surface of the bar. “Lucy Chen. I was hoping I’d get a chance to meet you tonight.” “Detective Leighton.” Lucy looked up into her eyes and felt her heart beat faster. “I was hoping the same.”

ZACHARY LEVI AS BENNETT HUDSON | for @crose84‘s 31 days of loving for lucy event
lucy’s luck talking her way out of jury duty by leaning heavily on her ‘law enforcement professional’ credentials eventually runs out. she releases the information, expecting the typical barely-suppressed horror from the defense attorney. instead she’s the one who visibly deflates when her number is read off.
she slumps into the first empty seat she finds, hoping her hood will act more like a shield the further she pulls it up. wishful thinking.
‘sorry to ruin your avoiding others at the moment; try again in an hour vibe - which couldn’t be clearer, by the way,’ a brightly remorseful face appears around the fabric blocking her periphery, offering up her keyring with a shrug. ‘can’t really make an escape without these, though.’
by the end of the trial, lucy’s gone to dinner with ben three times, they have plans again the following night, and he’s bringing the twenty five-year-olds he teaches for a tour of the bullpen next week.
