REVIEW(ed):
‘HEEL TURN’ is the long awaited & highly desired sophomore LP from LESSER CARE (@lessercare) & y'all can rest easy, the wait was well worth it as our boys done did it.
The El Paso-based duo, comprised of composer/lyricist/vocalist/guitarist Andres Chavez & drummer/percussionist/vocalist Zane Pacillas (w/ a special shoutout to bassist/guitarist Angel Yglecias) are the breath of fresh air that we’ve needed for some time & across a 12-track spread have further refined & mastered their brand of street_wearing, dream_gazing & Alt_rocking PostPunk.
“God’s Favorite” sets the scene/vibe, letting you know, this isn’t the same ole stroll through the post-punk-park…
“Cry Orchid” is the first proper track & it puts Lesser Care’s confidence on full display by showcasing a softer side that brilliantly blends their brooding tendencies w/ a wash of dream_poppin textures while “Streetwear” brings those glammy gloomer goods & “Intuition” recalls the expert melancholic moodiness their big bros in Soft Kill have made a name from (those subtly massive drum fills tho).
“Candy” is all saccharine rush & ringing guitars (& more sick ass fills) while “Heavenly” finds the boys linking up w/ vocalist Haley Anne & stepping their game up to higher dreamPOP levels w/out dialing back any of the melancholy across 4 synth laden mins as “Even After Everything Changed (Feat: Tobias Grave)" brings a loaded 3:42 clip moodily lit & emotionally surged AltPop.
“Bubblegum Machine” ups the oomph across 3 mins of buzzsaw guitars & swinging beats while “Gloss” & “Something New” once again prove that our boys know their way around some atmospherically trapped SynthPop…. Which brings us to the one-two closing punch of “Finally Bare” & “Light Blue,” the former w/ its hard hitting swing (not to mention that final third guitar burst) & the latter’s bringing-it-all-home vibe as LC collect, disperse & hone in on all the sounds/vibes of the past 11 tracks while channeling them into a cohesively wrapped 5 min package.
‘Heel Turn’ is the sound of Lesser Care rising too the occasion & surpassing all our hope, desires & wishes… this is the sound of well heeled progress.

#poorly drawn mdzs#mdzs#wen qing#wen ning#jiang cheng#wei wuxian#In the audio drama she quite literally opens the door and then leaves after seeing them without breaking conversation.#It is both so impressive and deeply funny to me.#I imagine her just literally pivoting in one foot and walking right out.#She came home after a long day at work and in 0.5 seconds went “I would rather go back to the office than deal with this right now”.#Besides tickling me to near tears - this scene is also a great introduction to Wen Qing - her first instinct is to protect!#She lives by the code of 'I don't care who you are - if you need help I will lend it.' a true doctor and professional.#Sure she is *mad* that Wen Ning puts himself (and her to a lesser extent) at risk by helping 'the enemy' but she gives in quick.#I love Wen Qing a lot - she is such an unsung hero in this story.#Sorry that her first appearance on this blog was...what it was. im sure its been said already but as the election draws near more and more liberals will come out of the woodwork to shame people with a conscience to give away their vote to the democrats for free. i'm already seeing posts saying "why aren't people more concerned about a trump presidency?" you want to know why? it's because people already know he's bad. everyone already knows what he is and what he's done and what he'll do. there's nothing to discuss. he's a racist despotic worm of a man. there's nothing else to say.
biden is currently president. the genocide is happening under his watch. he's the one funding isra*l and arming them; he's sidestepped congress more than once to give them weapons. by oct. 27, the biden administration already knew that "Israel was regularly bombing buildings without solid intelligence that they were legitimate military targets." the state department/biden have engaged in atrocity propaganda, cast doubt on the legitimacy of the death toll recorded by the gaza health ministry, and so on. the united states is currently in the process of trying to pin the "war in gaza" on netanyahu (see sen. schumer's speech) after months of backing blatant genocide as a means to act as if they're "doing something" about the genocide (Instead of, say, threatening to cut off all aid to israel with the condition that all hostilities in gaza, the west bank, and occupied jerusalem are halted immediately and permanently, allowing palestinians freedom to travel, allowing aid into gaza, etc etc etc.)
the long and short of it is that liberals view their own lives as being worth more than palestinians'. that's it. they'll vote for another 4 years of the guy ushering in genocide and supporting apartheid + settler colonialism because he isn't outright attacking them (despite various laws and rulings happening both at the supreme court level and at the local level all over the country that will endanger people). they'll settle for the illusion of safety and security and shame anyone with a conscience and accuse them of "supporting the republicans" when in an actual democracy you would be able to use your vote as leverage to extract concessions from those who want to be elected. that's how it's supposed to fucking work.
democrats are not owed people's vote. if biden loses, it will be biden's fault; it will be his campaign's fault; it will be the democrats' fault. trump is bad; the republicans are bad. we already know this. this is not an endorsement of either. but if democrats are too cowardly and feckless and servile to the motivations of the american empire and never do anything for their constituents then why the fuck should anyone vote for them. you want to get mad at someone, why don't you do something useful and stop worrying about team-sports with a purely selfish basis and start hounding the people in power who are supposed to serve you, the voter.
