i wanted to be an architect for a while so i think building codes are cool like how fire escapes were banned in 1968 because they eventually became pretty useless when fireproof stairs became a thing and people just started using them for fun. and they werent sturdy so there are instances of them falling on people BECAUSE there was a fire or falling while holding lots of people trying to escape a fire. nyc aims to decrease carbon emissions by 40% by 2030 so they give buildings energy efficiency grades that have to be displayed and are fined when they get low grades. bedrooms should be at least 80 square feet … but if there are three bedrooms its less. bedrooms also dont legally require closets. hospitals have really strict ventilation requirements
