Legasea Bar & Grill
Connected to the Moxy hotel near Penn Station is a pretty cool bar and grill that serves up a great burger, named after my friend Dave from Golden Packing, their meat supplier. Check out my Ride & Review video HERE (second stop in the video): You may think this doesn’t look too great. I thought so too. The cheese isn’t melted and the tomato is too thick. But it is DAMN GOOD! It’s made from…

1. Learning Task
For this task, I am asked to consider three concepts if I were to photograph a series of images for a client.
1. The main content - predominant genre
2. The overall mood/vibe of your work
3. The main contexts of your work
In what way would they want me to showcase the work I have done for them? Fashion, editorial, gallery, documentary, advertising, social/environmental etc. Does your past work reflect the contextual direction you want to take in the future?
Introductory professional sentence introducing yourself to the viewership:
My name is Ella Hart Guinness. I am a young woman living in Aotearoa New Zealand, as a coming-of-age portraiture photographer. The vast majority of my work is a testament to the wahine/women of my country and their stories. Like any area of my work, I am producing a high-end series of images for the local organisation “LegaSea” in honour of the rāhui around Aotearoa. A rāhui is an indigenous, Māori principle put in place to control the harvest of natural resources, and they have asked me to provide beautiful imagery to encourage all New Zealanders to respect the concept.

Weird infected fish appear in New Zealand prompt warning
Along New Zealand‘s northeast coast there have been concerns over the occurrence of mysteriously infected fish. There have been reported spotting mushy milk-colored flesh fish along the coast. The cause of the situation is still not known but fishers warn that eating such fish could lead to health problems.
The condition was first reported in August 2022 and reports of such fish occurring have been on the rise. According to a nonprofit group LegaSea, the situation worsened this summer.

“On some fishing charter boats, there are more fish with milky flesh than without,” said Trish Rea, a fisher at LegaSea, told Newsweek.
The extent of the damage is not quantifiable at the moment. Reports of the milky fish have come from all corners of the Hauraki Gulf Marine, which ranges over 1.2 million hectares off the coast of the North Island of New Zealand.
LegaSea has been issuing reports and updates on the situation for a while now. The organization has better insight into the issue owing to its partner organization Kai Ika Project, which filet fish for recreational fishers, preserve unwanted fish parts and give them back to the local community where they are valued.
“You can only tell when you cut into them,” Rea said. “It’s most common in snapper because that is the most popular fish brought home to eat by fishers on the northeast coast…but we’re also starting to hear about the condition in other species, including kingfish and tarakihi.”
In a recent Facebook post, LegaSea said that they have received numerous inquiries about the safety of eating such fish. The organization does not advise eating infected fish, however, the government says it’s safe to eat and there haven’t been any reports of anyone getting sick from milky fish.
LegaSea says that the condition of most infected fish is not good. They are thinner than the healthy ones and seem to have stayed in a conditioned environment. This has raised questions about possible starvation and the causes of the lack of food.
“We need to urgently find out what is turning our snapper into marshmallows and find a way to better protect them and the other species in our marine park,” Rea said.

Video
youtube
Soooo we just premiered Legacy’s second single, and I’m so proud to be part of a group of such hardworking, dedicated people. Having about 18 moving parts is no short achievement in putting together a music video solely online, around the world, across timezones. I think it’s pretty cool, and I’m pleased to be involved in any way they let me. The girls (and Miyo) worked themselves beyond exhaustion putting this together. The art? The composition? The harmonies and arrangements? Straight fire. Song’s also on Spotify.
“Oh but what did you even do for it if you aren’t even part of the main thing the group does???”
Okay yeah true, but I wrote a companion short story that came out with it, which has taken up most of my brain power for writing lately (along with other Legacy related things that need my attention). You can catch it:
On Wattpad (if you have one)
In 8.5″x11″ Full Size (PDF)
In A5/Book Size (PDF)
Thanks for being patient with me. I’m gonna try to do things on here, but for now you’ll have to take my reblogs and occasional rambles and deal with it. Summer is melty season and I have no AC. So please cool off with Legasea and bop to this at least once if you wanna give me peace of mind. <3
Here’s their Twitter. @LegacyIdols.
Also??? Melon worked her ass off on the PV art for the video and it’s so gorgeous and I’m so glad she shared it all. It looks so beautiful, and the girls are so soft.

Đây chính là lý do thuyết phục nhà đầu tư an tâm xuống tiền vì khả năng khai thác dòng tiền trong tương lai gần.

Changing Methods of Production
This week’s chapters offer the different methods we, humans, sustain ourselves, and how we have invented new technologies to make this job easier. However, we see clearly throughout the reading that this is not always a positive thing. To start, we see aquatic ecosystems such as the oceans and wetlands and their importance. They provide numerous benefits for us and the environment like: 300 million jobs, natural barriers, absorb 90% of the CO2 human activities emit, and with this they help slow climate change and atmospheric warming (Miller and Spoolman 233). The earth is mostly water, in fact 71% of it is, so we have to be able to manage it in a sustainable way. Furthermore, bodies of water provide us with a great amount of food for those who live near and far from coasts. We will look at both aquatic and terrestrial methods of agriculture, and how we can change from practices that are harmful to both the environment and the economy.
Since the 1990s there has been increased acidification, temperatures, and sea levels. All of these affect species’ habitats like coral reefs and our sources of seafood protein. This could worsen world hunger with the death of aquatic species and will contribute greatly to climate change (234). Some of the causes of these increases are: pollution from human activities in land that end up in the oceans, runoff that contains high levels of nutrients from fertilizers, and soil erosion (237). Additionally, aquatic ecosystems and their biodiversity are being affected by our methods of fishing, and more specifically overfishing. With the use of big nets, long line fishing, among others there is a lot of bycatch. This means fish that were not intended to be caught. When they are caught accidentally many of them are thrown back into the ocean dead or dying. This will further affect farmers that rely on fishing because it will create commercial extinction - when it will no longer be profitable to harvest the species they usually do (239). It is not only oceans that are affected by our activities, but also wetlands. We have lost “more than half of coastal and inland wetlands in the US since 1900” and even more in other countries like China, New Zealand, and Italy (250). To prevent and minimize the harmful effects we have imposed on these ecosystems there has to be governmental action as the basis of fighting against this.
Tumblr media
(LegaSea)
The government has a lot of power over what areas are marine reserves and therefore protected from fisheries. The creation of more of these areas will help the species adapt to the increasing temperatures and acidification, and repopulate to the normal level they were before such rapid depletion (256). Even though it is difficult to monitor many of these fishing techniques because in the open ocean they are not held by a legal jurisdiction, we can still create new methods of fishing that are more sustainable (246). Other solutions include: fishery regulations; consumer information; allow escape of smaller fish, sea birds, and sea turtles in nets; and initiate worldwide ecological restoration programs (257).
Furthermore, our methods of food production are resulting harmful towards the future of the environment and its species. There is a surplus of food production that is being done in an unsustainable way, and yet one in nine people in the world face food insecurity (261). With the increase in the world population comes more food necessity. Industrialized agriculture, plantation agriculture, and traditional agriculture are based on methods that require a lot of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides and methods of farming animals (like CAFOs) that are harmful to the environment (265). Some harmful effects posed by food production are: biodiversity loss, water depletion and pollution, air pollution, and diminished human health with bacterial contamination and pesticide residues (272). The appealing side of these harmful methods is that they are cheaper than organic production, increase food supplies, reduce the costs for farmers, and it is done fast (282). However, there are ways to move away from this and still yield crops and other food sources.
To improve food security and produce food more sustainably and efficiently we can: turn to organic fertilizers like green manure, improve soil conservation, resort to Integrated Pest Management (IPM), apply efficient irrigation, subsidize sustainable agriculture (286), and most importantly increase and demand government action and private programs that help people with food insecurity (294). “33% of the world’s food is lost or wasted” and to move away from this statistic we can individually buy more locally produced food and buy from organic and sustainable companies (296).
My evaluation of these readings is that we have to clearly move away from our current food production methods, aquatic and terrestrial. There are plenty of ways to do this in a way that will not take away jobs and continue to benefit the economy. If we work locally for the government to enforce regulations and create reserves and personally buy consciously, then we can really change the way food is viewed and made. There is so much food being wasted but there is a large amount of famine and hunger around the world. This is not fair, and as decent human beings we should work to change this. Technological advances have come a long way through crossbreeding and genetically modified organisms. This can work in everyone’s advantage if proceed with caution. With funding and directing the money we spend to good causes and sustainable practices we can still sustain ourselves comfortably while simultaneously decreasing environmental effects.
Question: Where does all the wasted food go? And why are we producing so much food that is not being consumed?
