mortal engines movie spoilers
do not read if you have not watched the movie
I'm kind of slightly analyzing what they did with the characters and the storyline and the special effects etc etc. Do not read if you haven't watched the movie, I consider this a spoiler and no I have not read the book (maybe I will one day), this is about the movie
Its a movie made with care, by people who didnt conform to the usual mistakes of their genre.
A movie that exceeded probably all my expectations  is definitely worth  seeing though i hope youve already seen it if youve read all this and one that is made naturally, a movie that doesnt try to check boxies, that creates a world.
the characters make sense
the villain has a back up plan, because hes gotten this far hes supposed to be thebad guy is obviously not stupid enough to not have a backup plan and hes a person not a storyline trope
Anna  isnt the badass female sexist lesbian warrior with the short hair, they dont fall into a stereotype just to make some stupid audience member feel confy or build her up as a legend before we actually see her, who she is and how good she is is clear when you see her, her sexuality isnt a big deal, she could be straight bi pan who cares.
the bond between the leads isnt love at fist sight, its genuine interest, empathy and the bond that comes with a shared bad experience, a trust that has basis and not just a potential love story. its a relationship that evolves naturally and isnt made to fit a box. They dont kiss at the end because their feelings arent bend for the tight movie schedule or just stupid blockbaster tease romance with a meaningless kiss at the end. (the post about the Atlantis movies relationship is exactly what comes to mind)
the daughter doesnt think she has some incredible power over her father and their relationship is actually similar to what relationships between criminals and their leftinthedark families realistically could be like. she doesnt have a romance in her life at the same time where everythingshe though about her father and when thousands of lives are at stake just for the shake of having a stupid trope in the movie.
the psychology of all the characters has been thought over and carefully written.
the storyline is beautifully constracted with key moments and directing decisions, with misdirects, buildups and forshadowing.
The civilisation over the wall is an advanced one, that values life, learns from the past, but realistically makes mistakes. The leader speaks his own language with English subtitles , respecting the character and the civilisation. Just like the subtle sexism and racism is amazingly close to nonexistant
Modern effects are used like they should be. They dont waste the technology they have for mediocre scenes with close to zero effect on the audience. They use what they have beautifully and the fight scenes arent a bad joke trying to replicate unique fight scenes in deadpool. They’re good, thrilling, badass, beautiful, logical.
Basically, its not just a movie with a romance , a somewhat badass fighter, a stupid “bad guy” and a shaky storyline.
its what is said it is at the beginning and its a shame that it goes unseen, far worse movies get too much praise when this one actually deserves it.

How do you decide when you're left in the dark? How do you make sure you are not making the worst mistake in somebody's life? You close your eyes...you block out everyone and everything around you, and pray the voice inside you is right. Because once you decided...you can't ever go back.

Tarja's album "Left In The Dark" is 4 years old today!
Following the original track list of “Colours In The Dark”, its counterpart “Left In The Dark” contains rarities, B-Sides as well as demos, instrumental versions including five previously unreleased versions, thereof two live radio acoustic recordings of “500 Letters” and “Until Silence”. Not only is the track selection of “Left In The Dark” one of a kind, the story behind the creation of the album artwork is as well. Tarja fans were called for creating the cover artwork: with over 1.000 great and creative submissions, Tarja had a hard time choosing five winner artworks! In case you haven't been listening to it for a while, you can find the album on: iTunes: bit.ly/iTunes-LeftInTheDark Spotify: bit.ly/Spotify-LeftInTheDark More info here: www.tarja-coloursinthedark.com

“Left in the Dark”
Published: 8 October, 2011
http://mcstories.com/LeftInTheDark/index.html This one is the first one - in either series, in fact - in the first person. And it kinda needs it. This is far and away the weirdest comic book story: not in a hard-to-follow way, but just in the sense that it’s about a telepath doing some very un-real-world things. Like I said last time, it’s a story where a full synopsis would include the phrase “deliberately turns herself into bugs”. Putting it in the first person is probably the only way to put that over on the reader.
So, the actual synopsis: Not-Evil Professor X Professor Psyche* is captured by Ultron Ultimax, to be enslaved as a psychic tool for world conquest, etc; she astral-projects out of her quickly-sinking meat and then... well, possesses a bunch of bugs to beat up Ultimax and rescue her body. The sexy mc part is in the middle, where Ultimax goes for the super-optimized pleasure conditioning against Psyche. It’s relatively short, compared to the similar sequence in most of the others, and I get the impression @jukeboxemcsa was much more interested in the strange, fun, comic-book story about a psychic vs a robot than the ostensible purpose.
You know what? I’m cool with that. I mean, I don’t think Jukebox should, like, try to become a comics writer full-time, or even drop the erotica angle that often, but he’s a good writer and if he has a story idea that only sort-of works as sexiness, I’m down with that. This is such an idea: I think it’s pretty interesting as-is, and works quite well as-is. (Well, except for the ending, which cuts off at the appropriate point as a story, but does kind of leave the fate of Psyche hanging. I suppose that’s really more an issue for future stories to clarify, though - this one in particular doesn’t seem to me to be paced to have a coda.) Re the general idea of sexy comics stories... this one (particularly agendered, asexual robot Ultimax’s decision to go straight for the orgasm approach right off) kinda got me thinking. Is what we see of the comics universe just the erotic parts of an otherwise normal place? Are most of the off-camera fights with supervillains whose powers involve eye-lasers and giant crushing claws? Or is this just straight up a universe where all the eye-lasers hypnotize people and the giant crushing claws are only ever used - by purest coincidence - on victims who are simultaneously super-resiliant but also masochists? I suspect it’s the former, and I’m sure there’s enough evidence in the text to support that, but I prefer the latter. No one in-universe would ever notice! “It’s just how super hero fights work!” Next time: poor, put-upon Adventure Girl finally gets a win. *I rag on Professor X largely because he deserves it, but this story also does do some nice character development for Psyche. The bit where she apologizes to the (practically mindless, dying in a good cause) bugs for leading them to their deaths is a particularly nice moment of characterization.

Never knew....
How to deal with my emotions. To deal with things that upset me, or I should just say, never knew how to deal with anything that impacted me in any way. Instead of asking how, or letting people know they hurt me, I just stuffed it in. Never told anyone how what they did or said affected me. Never tried to tell my mother how I felt. I just never knew what to even think..
After stuffing for so so long, I forgot how to deal with anything. Emotions, problems, relationships, friendships, family, past, or present.
I had a lot of problems with my mother, and certain things with my father… they were never together since I’ve been on this earth. My mother reminds me all the time how he doesn’t know how to pay child support, and that when she told him she was pregnant, he said “Not my kid.” He was in jail when I was born. My mom made me grow up so fast. She didn’t try to, but her problems, helped create mine. Being 2,988$ behind in rent, but she can get 40$ worth of Mc. Donalds every other day. She lived on the computer with post partum after my two brothers, so I was forced to take care of them….
I could go on and on with them, but as I got older, the more things that kept coming out of myself. Certain memories, feelings towards things, questions, and more, that I’ve probably had this whole time, that I’m now just feeling. I’ve never known how to feel these things, or deal with these things, because I’ve NEVER TRIED.
