The glint of light on the coffee table immediately drew your attention as you walked into the living room.
I called Chan and Seungcheol to help me get the rest of my stuff. I know you wanted to go see another counselor… but I don’t know what the point would be. I know I’m not the only one who’s hurting here, and I don’t see what the hell else we can do.
I don’t think you could see how deep the cracks run, or that I had run out of rope.We could keep fighting each other, keep hurting each other, but I think it’s time to just face it… I couldn’t be what you wanted. All I could do was love you – and god did I love you – love you hard and let you go.
-Jihoon
The weighty cream piece of paper lay on the coffee table and on top of it, Jihoon’s silver wedding band, identical to the one on your own finger. The lights are off, but the room is far from dark. The sun outside is at its zenith and its rays spill into the room and wash the air with enough light to see dust floating in the air. Aside from the note and silver band, glimmering in the light, nothing in the living room had been touched in weeks.
The walls are still covered in pictures of the two of you smiling and you wonder if all the “I love yous” ever meant anything or if the foundation was cracked from the beginning. You’re left with more questions than you’ll ever have answers to and all you can think of is how unfair it is that Jihoon felt that he had the right to decide that things were over.
He was the one keeping secrets. He was the one who moved on before things had even ended. He was convinced that you were the problem. He was the one running away. And you were covered in scars you didn’t earn.
I should be crying, you think to yourself. But you don’t. You haven’t cried in a while, really, because honestly, to say you didn’t see this coming would be a lie.
From the minute you met him five years ago, sitting at a table on the fourth floor of the library and madly scribbling into a worn leather notebook, you knew he was on a one way road to something bigger. You suppose it was only a matter of time that he would outgrow you too.
While nearly every other seat was occupied by students with strewn out textbooks, notebooks, and half-dead laptops cramming for midterms, he was writing a song. School was on the backburner for him (as were most other things), a backup plan in case his dreams were just a little bit too far. Interestingly enough, that was what drew you to him.
“Whatcha writing?” you had asked him, the nervous crack in your voice betraying your casual attempt at conversation. You had noticed him as soon as you sat down to study an hour ago, as he was one of the only people around without a laptop in front of him, but waited until your break to finally let your curiosity get to you.
It took a few seconds before he realized you were speaking to him and he finally lifted his head to look at you. You couldn’t help but smile as you realized the redness on his cheek from resting it on his fist and the messy state of his dark hair.
“Me?” he questioned as you nodded.
“There’s no one else at the table,” you teased.
“Oh,” he looked around as if he hadn’t given any attention to his surroundings in a while. “I’m working on a song,” he admitted softly.
“Cool,” you replied. “Is it for a class? My friend is in a songwriting class with profe–”
“No,” he interrupted, scribbling something else down before returning his attention to you. “It’s just for fun.”
“Fun, huh?” you began. “You have time for fun in the middle of midterms?”
He let out a chuckle as he shook his head. “I like to think I have my priorities sorted,” he answered. “I’m Jihoon.” He extended his hand out for you to shake.
You looked down at his hand, noting the calluses on his fingertips before taking it in yours and introducing yourself.
“So what about you?” he returned. “What class are you studying for?”
You turned your laptop around to show him the powerpoint you had pulled up from your music and neuroscience class. “I’m actually in a class about how music affects the brain,” you explained.
Jihoon’s face lit up in interest. “Really?” he asked. “How does it affect the brain then?” It had been a while since you were able to gush about your interest in neuroscience.
“Well,” you began, pointing your finger over the brain scans on the slide. “There’s some recent studies showing that music could help treat people with Alzheimer’s and some other neurological issues in elderly people.”
You looked over to Jihoon’s brows furrowed in interest as he nodded along. “That’s pretty cool,” he mused.
“Yeah,” you continued. “I saw a couple of videos that show patients with forms of dementia suddenly remembering complex ballet dances and specific memories just from certain musical cues with synaptic activity in many voxels that–” you cut yourself off, realizing you were going to start rambling.
“That what?” Jihoon looked back up at you, clearly still interested in what you had to say.
“That uh,” you blinked at him. “This isn’t boring you?”
“Huh?” he questioned. “This is really cool,” he laughed. “As a musician, it’s nice to know music is more than just something pretty to listen to. I could be making synapses move and what not. I’ll be making an impact.”
You laughed and nodded your head. “Well, synapses don’t move,” you corrected as Jihoon rolled his eyes before giving you a smile. “But thanks.”
“For what?”
“For listening.”
It’s easy, even now, five years later, to remember the way he looked bathed in spring sunlight and the feeling of his callused hands in yours even if you couldn’t remember the last time he actually touched you. He used to trace circles against your skin, humming melodies into your ear, a soft reminder every time of the day you met.
You look down now at your hand and pull off the band, setting it down next to Jihoon’s rather than picking them both up. They’re small, but something tells you they’d be heavy like lead in your palms. So instead, you opt to leave them there, to join the rest of the abandoned and untouched reminders of a life once shared.
On another day you’d take down the pictures of Jihoon kissing your cheek at the fair, the plaque you jokingly made for him out of macaroni after his first single first charted, and the blanket he bought you from Germany on his first tour. Maybe one day you’ll find a lesson to learn in all of this. But all of that would wait till another day when you can begin to move forward the way Jihoon has. But today, you choose to return to your room, to hold onto some semblance of familiarity, still hurting.

Tumblr media
Lee Jihoon’s family is known as one of the most feared Mafia families in South Korea, his great grandparents having made a reputation for themselves that has been held up for generations.
Jihoon was born an only child and singular heir to the Lee fortune and the Lee legacy; having known from a young age that he would eventually end up being the leader of the Lee clan. He knew the family business was dangerous, and since being taught the ropes at 13, he knew that his relationships could be used against him from rival clans. This reason alone caused him to be cautious and callous with who he associated with. He only has two important people he would consider his friends.
His closest friend, Kwon Soonyoung also doubles as his right hand man. Both men grew up together due to Soonyoung’s father being close with Jihoon’s. Their frequent meetings caused the young men to be around eachother for long bouts of time, eventually being homeschooled together while their father’s talked business. For Jihoon, Soonyoung is the one and only person he could trust on this earth- time and time again, he has always proved his unchallenged loyalty to Jihoon and his father’s family. If Jihoon was irrational and unfiltered, Soonyoung was his voice of reason and his level-headed decision maker. To him, it was a match made in heaven.
The second person he considered his friend, or used to, was you. You came into both Jihoon and Soonyoung’s life at 8 years old, your family having been hired by Master Lee to work as live-in staff in their mansion. You were the only other child Jihoon and Soonyoung’s age, and despite Master Lee’s cold heart, he grew to treat you like his daughter and let Jihoon frequently spend his younger years playing with his two closest friends when they weren’t being homeschooled together until he was of age to get into the family business.
12 months ago, when Jihoon had just turned 25, Master Lee announced his soon to be retirement to his son. The only condition for Jihoon to step up to be head of the family business was simple but to Jihoon, was absolutely atrocious.
“I don’t understand why you think me marrying would be advantageous to the family, father.” He hisses, adjusting his chain around his neck, glaring at the stupid red rose, the Lee family staple, perfectly pinned to his lapel.
“It is not to a random woman, Jihoon.” Master Lee frowned.
“That makes it worse!” He barked, leaning his head back in frustration.
“Jihoon. You have to know that no one can be trusted in this business. I am not allowing you to marry outside of who we trust. They can slither their way into your heart and when you are at your most vulnerable, they take everything out from under you. If the enemy knows you’re committed to someone already, it keeps them from hurting us from the inside.”
“Yeah, it also makes Y/N the number one target to the enemy and they will try and swipe her away from under our noses!” He’s yelling now.
He would never admit it to anyone, but he cares too much for you. You’re too good to be associated with the dastardly business that is associated with being in the mafia; you’re a good hearted person who happily serves the Lee family alongside your just as good parents. You’re the one good thing that Jihoon has left, and he’d be damned if he couldn’t protect you.
“It’s not like you’re going to be parading her out for missions and stake outs.” Master Lee frowns. “She is only for the parties. So others know that you’re a committed man that will not waver. I guarantee you she will be protected. She will be treated like a queen in here, and she won’t ever have to see the dark side of the business. Son, I promise you.”
For 12 months, Jihoon, in the public eye was the perfect model husband with you. He stayed by your side faithfully at galas and parties, parading you around with a look of what was perceived as adoration by others. Behind closed doors however, Jihoon treated you like a ghost. Long gone was your once closest friend who you stayed up late with to binge watch stupid movies, playing video games and pranks on Soonyoung. The only thing that remained was a quiet man that only greeted you for one meal a day, to his insistence for the sake of ‘normalcy.’ In your opinion, it felt anything but. Your attempts at conversion were shut down with one worded answers or sometimes none at all, and over time, you grew to enjoy your meal with your husband in silence before going about your day around the Lee mansion alone.
Jihoon thought his father’s plan was working. For 12 months, his wife was safe and protected and never got caught up with any of the mafia business. He was in alliance with most rival clans and worked out plans and deals to work for the foreseeable future.
Sadly for Jihoon, Master Lee was full of shit.
Tumblr media
Jihoon is frantic. The staff had alerted him while out for a meeting with an ally clan that you had been injured. They were intentionally vague with details, knowing their boss would fly off the handle at the extent to what your injuries were.
“She’s at home.” Jihoon hears Soonyoung’s voice over the phone.
“What the fuck happened, Soonyoung.” He is sure he is making his driver break at least 10 different road laws right now to get back to the mansion. He makes a mental note to contact the local police and send some generous gift baskets.
“The guards don’t know. I’m trying to get it out of them, but no luck yet.”
“She shouldn’t have been out unsupervised.” Jihoon winces, rubbing at his temples. “Tell them if they don’t give you an honest answer by the time I’m back, I will have their tongues.”
“Just go to her right now, Hoon-ah.”
Tumblr media
Marching into the living room, Jihoon makes his presence known by the heavy thuds of his boots on the tiled floor. His eyes scan the room until they finally land on you, his childhood friend and arranged wife, sitting anxiously on the couch. He feels his eye twitch at the sight of no guards in sight, you having been left alone since you have returned.
You lift your head up shakily, your eyes widening at the sight of your husband. His long hair, usually sported in a bun atop his head is now strewn about and falling out of the elastic holding it together, suit jacket scrunched and twisted, red rose nowhere to be found. You’re astonished, having grown so used to seeing your husband with his perfect red rose on his lapel at all times. What you didn’t know that after having found out about your capture, he thrown it to the ground in frustration of his worst fears coming true.
“Jihoon?” You blink nervously.
This is the first time you’ve seen him properly (minus your daily lunches) for maybe a month. He stares intently across the room at you, scanning your body. You’re cradling your left wrist in your hand, a bruise in the perfect shape of a hand print forming around your wrist. His eyes lift to your face, his blood boiling at the sight of a small cut across your cheek, your right eye swelling up and starting to turn purple.
“I-I’m sorry,” you stutter, biting down on your lip. “I know I shouldn’t have-“
You flinch at the sight of Jihoon striding forward, only to pause when he walks straight past you and into the kitchen, causing your shoulders to deflate. You were stupid to think your best friend had come back for only a moment. You sink sadly into the couch, curling up slowly.
Your head stays facing down at the floor as you run your fingertip over the hand print on your wrist, wincing and hissing as you press a little too hard. You sigh after a moment, moving to stand up before you pause at the sight of Jihoon’s expensive dress shoes directly in front of you.
You look up nervously at him as he reaches out, delicately taking your wrist, face neutral as he runs his fingers gently over the bruise just like you had done, eyebrows furrowing. You shiver slightly, this being the first physical contact you have felt from your husband in months. Next, he reaches forward and tucks a stray hair behind your cheek before examining the darkening bruise over your eye. At this, you see his eyes darken, heaving a heavy sigh through his nose.
“Who the fuck did this to you.” His voice is soft as he eyes you.
“I-I…”
“I need to know who did this.” He pleads.
“It was Hwang.” You whimper.
His jaw clenches. Hwang has sworn vengeance against the Lee family ever since Master Lee cut ties and alliances with the Hwang’s over his unethical practices. In Hwang’s words, he wanted to poison the perfect garden of roses that Master Lee built.
“H-he said it was a warning..” you can’t look Jihoon in the face. “T-to keep your wife on a leash or else something could happen. Jihoon, I’m so sorry, I really shouldn’t have gone out, I didn’t want to cause any more trouble.” You’re crying softly now, wincing at the pain that your swelling is causing.
You tense up as you feel something cool delicately rest on your cheek, opening your eyes to see your husband holding an ice pack gently to your face. Your eyebrows furrow in confusion as he moves you so you’re sitting down on the couch once more.
“You stay here until Soonyoung gets back to look after you, okay?” He instructs you as you just stare at him, bewildered. “Do you hear me, Y/N?” You nod your head slowly as you cradle the ice pack to your cheek. “Good.”
You watch Jihoon turn around and march back towards the front door of the mansion, pointing to Mr Kim, one of the guards who has been in Jihoon’s family for years. “Make sure no one comes inside this mansion except for me and Soonyoung. You guard her with your life until he gets here.” The man nods his head sternly as he moves to stand in the doorway between the living room and the entryway.
“J-Jihoon? Where are you going?” You ask nervously as your husband adjusts the gun holster around his waist, his voice cold and deadly, sending a shiver down your spine.
“I’m going to kill the fucker who thought he could touch my wife and get away with it.”
And with that, the door slams behind him, leaving you alone with Mr Kim eyeing the door sternly.
You stay anxiously in the living room for what feels like an eternity, waiting to hear anything from Jihoon or his guards. You jolt at the sound of the door after only 15 minutes of sitting in silence, breathing a sigh of relief as you see Soonyoung rush inside and run straight towards you.
“Soon…” you whimper as he meets you halfway, immediately pulling you close and hugging you to his chest.
“Fuck, Y/N, I’m sorry I wasn’t there.” He breathes out, shaky. “The one fucking day I had to go run some errands…”
You hate the fact that Hwang probably waited for Soonyoung to be away from you to strike.
“Soon, it’s fine…” you whisper, wincing as he pulls away to look down at your face, closely examining your swelling eye.
“It’s not fine, look at you!”
“I’m still alive, aren’t I?” You whisper, and he just sighs with frustration, leading you to the couch and sitting you up against the cushions, laying a fluffy blanket over you.
“You’re going to sit here and we are going to watch some tv until Jihoon-ah gets back, okay?” He settles down beside you.
“Soonyoung, you can go have a shower or eat or something...” Your voice is low as he scrolls through random movies to play on Netflix.
“Nope.” He made a promise to stay with you until Jihoon gets back, and he will stay true to his word. Eating and washing up can wait.
Tumblr media
“Y/N-ah.” Soonyoung glances at his phone after a few hours. The ice pack against your cheek is now lukewarm, your legs having shaken non-stop since you’d been forced to sit down.
“Hm..” you hum in response.
“Jihoon-ah will be home in 5 minutes. He asked for me to give you both some privacy and take care of some clean-up. Will you be okay with Mr Kim watching you?”
“Okay.” You respond nervously, teeth sinking into your bottom lip as Soonyoung gently touches your good cheek with his finger.
“I’ll be in the other room making calls if you get scared between now and then. Okay?”
“Thank you, Soonie.” You whisper, looking up at him with a grateful smile.
“You’re welcome.” He smiles back before turning around and walking down the hall, leaving you alone once more as the panic begins to rise in your body.
You’re lucky you don’t have to wait long, as true to Soonyoung’s word, Jihoon steps inside his mansion and into the living room not even 5 minutes later, heaving a sigh. When you spot him, you rush quickly to him, immediately noticing the blood on his shirt and causing you to panic even more.
“Oh god.. you’re bleeding, what have I done? Your father will have me for this.” You quickly try to wipe the blood off his shirt (which you’re relieved to realize isn’t his). Jihoon surprises you both as he reaches forward to take your injured wrist again, pulling you to him and wrapping his arms tight around your waist.
He pulls your head into the crook of his neck, squeezing you to him as his chin rests on top of your head, grip tight on your shirt. You’re shaking before you just melt into his embrace, holding onto his jacket tight as he hums.
“Are you okay.” When you just nod, he pulls back to look into your face. “I need to hear it from you, Y/N. Please… just humor me.”
“Yeah, I’m okay, Hoonie.” You breathe out with wide eyes.
Why does he look so scared?
He sighs with finality before he pulls you back to him, hugging you tight for the first time since he was forced to hold you at your wedding over 12 months ago.
“We will need more security.” He mumbles to you as he holds you tight. “Guards at every post. When we go out, when you’re out in the garden, everywhere. It’s clear they know your schedule so we need to throw them off your scent.” He is talking a mile a minute as he keeps you close to his chest, afraid you’d slip away. “As a precaution, I will have guards sweep the house for any bugs they could have planted. Tonight, we will sleep in the safe house. Is that okay with you, Y/N?”
“Yeah, that’s fine.” You whisper, your face buried in his shirt. You don’t want to leave his side as much as he doesn’t too - this being the most affection you’ve gotten from someone in 12 months.
Tumblr media
“Fuck.” Jihoon didn’t account for the fact his safe house only had one king size bed. “You can take the bed, okay… I can take the couch.”
“Don’t be silly.” You hum, already dragging him to the bed. “We’re both adults here. I think we can handle sharing a bed. We used to in school, right Hoonie?”
“I mean yeah, but we weren’t married then.”
“We’re only married on paper. Why are you being so iffy?” You laugh, wincing as your smile hurts your bruising cheek. Without thinking, he reaches out to cup your face worriedly, examining the bruise before rushing out to the kitchen, returning a few moments later with a small ice pack to press to your cheek.
“I’d feel more comfortable if you were close, Hoon. Please.” You ask quieter now as he rocks awkwardly on his heels.
“Only until you’re asleep.” He bargains, and you nod quickly.
“Deal.”
After an awkward intermission of you both getting ready to share the bed for the first time since your wedding, you’re finally drifting off, curled up beside your husband as he sits up against the bed head, stiff as a board in sweatpants and a large jumper. Jihoon lays on top of the blankets so he can make an easy get away when you fall into a deep sleep.
He’s about to up and leave as your breathing evens out, thinking you’re asleep when he feels you shift. You scoot closer, hand finding his as your head nestles comfortably against his shoulder. You visibly relax at his warmth, your shaky hands slowing to a stop as you essentially glue yourself to his side. He tenses up, looking down at you with wide eyes as you finally fall asleep. He frowns deeply at the sight of your bruise showing before aggressively sighing to himself and wrapping his free arm around you to hold you against his chest. He is unable to resist your cuteness. That, and he wants to protect you, of course.
Jihoon refuses to sleep a wink in case someone tries to break in, but after hour four of him stroking your arm delicately with his cheek resting on top of your forehead, he feels himself drifting off.
When he wakes up, he sees you’re still cuddled up to him, but almost jumps out of his skin when he sees Soonyoung standing at the foot of the bed with a knowing smirk on his face.
“It took you long enough to treat your wife like she is your wife.”
“Shut the fuck up.” Jihoon hisses out as quietly as possible to not wake you, his cheeks bright red. “If she wakes up, I’ll have your head.”
“I’m sure you will.” He winks.
“Kwon Soonyoung I swear to god if my wife wasn’t sleeping against me right now, you’d be six feet under.”
“Mhm~” he sing songs, stepping out the bedroom door.
“If you tell anyone, you’re dead.”

heads up: reader crying, some mentions of past trauma, etc. vague food mention (nothing past soonyoung getting snacks).
jihoon thinks he's bad at comforting you sometimes, and tonight is no different. you're curled up, head in his lap, and sobbing while he strokes your hair. soonyoung will be here in ten minutes with the snacks, and the three of you will have a nice movie night to cheer you up, but jihoon's the one who stayed with you because he's the one closer to you. not that soonyoung isn't, but soonyoung knows you need the quiet understanding right now.
"i'm just--" you choke back another sob, "i'm a mess, jihoon. i'm never gonna get past this. i'm not."
sometimes jihoon wishes he could see the scars you carry on your heart. that was a time before him. before soonyoung. if he was there, maybe he would understand better. maybe he'd be able to help you heal. but he just keeps doing what he's doing, patting your head and letting you get it out, because that's also what you need. soonyoung would be holding you (so would seokmin and so many of his other friends), but jihoon... jihoon will let you initiate that if you need it.
"i'm tired of fucking everything up," your face is burning hot and wet as you sob freely now. "it's been years, jihoon--i'm never gonna be free. i'm never gonna be okay." you get choked up for a moment, tears spilling again. "i'm not."
"you will," his voice stays soft. "you just need time."
you peek up at him, and for once, he sees how afraid you are. "how long?" you sound defeated, voice too small, too far away from you. "it's been--"
"six years," he cuts you off. "as long as it takes, okay?" he takes your hand, just to squeeze it tight. "i'll help you. soonyoung will, too. you'll get there."
"and if i don't?"
another tight squeeze of your hand. "you will." jihoon's eyes hold this light of determination in them, and he nods. "i promise."
your eyes glisten with tears again, and you move, burying your face in his neck as you wrap your arms around him. he shuts his eyes, and holds you tight for as long as it takes for you to weather out this storm.

Tuesday // Jihoon drabble
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
PARING: Jihoon x Reader GENRE: Angst IN RESPONSE TO THIS REQUEST: i need jihoon to break my heart bc he doesn't know how to balance his career and a relationship 😭 it would so gut wrenching bc he's being quite cold about it, but when he gets back to his studio the flood gates open 😭😭😭 *UNEDITED - Apologies for the grammar and spelling errors // tweaked the request a bit heh.
Tumblr media
You knew dating him wasn't going to be easy – but God, you didn't think it would be this painful.
When you met Jihoon, it was almost as if everything fell into place. From the moment you two had your first conversation, you knew he would be someone that would make a great impact in your life – and you the same with his.
It wasn't long before the friendship had turned into love – a partnership. He had always valued your understanding of his life in the spotlight – his career had always come first and you knew that. Even before you had agreed to be his girlfriend.
But years have come and gone, and there was no signs of things slowing down.
You were human, and it's normal to yearn for a life the rest of your friends had – a married life, a family, life outside of the city.
A boyfriend who would be there to support you through all your milestones.
You had been there for all his, standing at the sidelines as you watched him and his band of brothers accept the recognitions they worked tirelessly for.
But not for yours; because before you, there was them.
His fans.
His company.
His group.
They say that the same reason you fell for someone will ultimately be the reason why the relationship would fall apart. You two used to scoff at that idea. It may have been true for others, but definitely not you two.
At least, not during the first five years of your relationship.
It wasn't long before you realized that the two of you were put in each other's lives not to be together forever, but to be a lesson.
A lesson that love won't ever be enough; because if it was, you wouldn't be standing in the middle of his living room with tears streaming down your face as his remained unwavering. Almost as if his heart isn't breaking just as much as yours.
You two were no longer on the same page. All while you were ready to move on to the next chapter of your life with him, he was ready to wrap his book up – ready to end it.
"I know other idols are able to hide it," Jihoon's voice was cold, eyes dark with not a single glimmer of life behind it. As if he had rehearsed these same lines before. "But I can't, Y/n. I'm not ready to be whatever image you have of us in your head."
"So what? This is it?" Your voice cracked. You no longer cared to wipe your tears – it was far better they blurred your vision than seeing the man you love, end your relationship on a random Tuesday afternoon.
"I'm not changing my stance and I know you aren't, either. I know you want a ring, I know you want kids and– That's just not where I am and I don't think I will be for a long while."
You didn't know what was more painful; the fact that he was right or the fact that, in the back of your head, you wished it wasn't true.
The tears began to fall faster as the realization began to set in.
This was the end.
You knew him better than you knew yourself, he wasn't going to change his mind. Nothing could.
He was everything you have ever known for the past five years and it was all coming to a crashing halt.
"I'm sorry for wasting your time."
・゜゜・.・゜゜・.・゜゜・.・゜゜・.
He thought he was handling it well.
Jihoon had kept himself together for four months – all thanks to their jam packed schedule which rarely allowed him any time to be alone with his thoughts, let alone time for sleep.
He prided himself for being able to handle the break up without a single tear being shed; breaking the news to the twelve boys that same day during practice as if it was just any news.
As if it was the most casual conversation.
All while they stood in shock, unable to grasp the sudden end to what seemed to be a picture perfect relationship, he continued their four hour long practice unfazed – brushing off their looks of concern and questions of how he was doing.
But just like the break up, the grief came crashing on him like a semi-truck going at full speed on a random Tuesday.
Jihoon had gone into the studio with Soonyoung with plans to work on their upcoming comeback. He had always looked into his past work for inspiration, playing snippets of the demos he had recorded for previous comebacks to allow the creative juices to flow.
It was going so well, the two of them laughing at how ridiculous the original version of their hit singles sounded.
And then he got to that one song.
The song that was originally meant to be a ballad – the heart-aching song that was meant to be assembled with strings and a piano.
He sat frozen as his voice echoed softly through the speakers. At the time, he had composed the song with no one in mind – simply taking inspiration from his other member's breakups.
Now, he could relate to every single one of the words.
"You okay?" Soonyoung eyed him from the seat next to his.
Jihoon hadn't realized it, but tears began to fall from his eyes – his chest heaving up and down as he tried to contain his emotions. In his head, he thought his composure remained calm; but he was falling apart with each line.
"No." He swallowed, unable to shake his thoughts away. That moment in his living room began to replay in his head – the sight of you in tears, the sound of your broken voice, the pure defeat in your eyes... the moment you walked out without sparing a second glanse.
Soonyoung quickly reached over to the mouse, hitting pause on the music; knowing that it had been the catalyst to the sudden break down of his best friend. "D–do you need time alone? Water?"
Jihoon shook his head. The silence had become much worse than when the music was playing – this time he could hear your voice, the sweet sweet voice he missed so much.
It wasn't until now that he realized how much he missed hearing your laughter, your words of encouragement, your ramblings over the phone – he missed you.
In the past few months, his life had become far too busy that he hadn't realized that there was a gaping hole in his chest in the shape of you. He had been able to fill it with his members, his fans, and his work – but it was all temporary.
A quick patch.
There was no replacing you. No one else's hand fit perfectly in his, no one knew what he was thinking before he could voice it, no one came close to understanding him the way you did – and now it was too late.
You took his cold response to the break up as a sign from whatever was above that this was what was meant to be – blocking his number, his social media accounts, and leaving without a trace. Almost as if you never existed to one another.
You were nothing but a stranger to him and it pained him to know that there was no getting you back.
"I fucked up." He choked out a sob.

insomniac | lee jihoon
Tumblr media
SYNOPSIS. in which jihoon has trouble falling asleep. PAIRING. lee jihoon x gn!reader GENRE. fluff, hurt/comfort, established relationship WARNINGS. mentions of insomnia WORD COUNT. 1.2k
notes: just a random jihoon comfort drabble because he works so hard for us and deserves everything in the world <3
Tumblr media
Jihoon can’t fall asleep.
It was nothing out of the ordinary for him, as he finds his days filled with exhausting schedules that easily wears him out, yet he spends his nights specifically to produce new music for the group. But as the rest of the world around him settled into deep slumber, Jihoon remained wide awake in those ungodly hours, fueled by nothing but the intensity of his creative passion.
He couldn’t tell if there was any reasoning behind it𑁋if there was a reason why his brain is so full of ideas that it can’t seem to just shut up and be quiet for once, so he feels the need to put it all down first until the wee hours of the night before having to force himself to sleep, which in itself doesn’t really do his body well.
The cycle had started over a month ago𑁋that’s what he told you at least𑁋but time seemed to lose all meaning when he was in the zone. The days blurred together, punctuated only by the occasional meeting or performance. Jihoon couldn't remember the last time he had a good night's rest. His mind resembled a galaxy of inspiration, and he was just a mere person trying to capture its brilliance in sound.
Jihoon finds himself staring at his computer in front of him, eyes dry and a bit heavy, yet his mind is completely awake. It’s around three in the morning and he’s probably gotten up once or twice in the last few hours. He knows himself that whatever he was doing was unhealthy; you nagged him about it just an hour ago, and now you were coming over.
His phone vibrates and he takes it in his hands, reading through your short text.
[my y/n 🤍] can you let me inside?
Jihoon’s heart twinges with guilt as he reads your message. He knows he should have listened to you and taken better care of himself, but the allure of his music and the pressure of his work had consumed him. He had become a slave to his insomnia, unable to break free from its grasp.
[my jihoon ❤️] door is unlocked. be careful
The moment he sends the text he hears some footsteps outside his door. He stands up from his chair, releasing a groan from the slight ache in his step, and heads his way to greet you.
Immediately once he opens the door, he frowns at how disheveled and tired you look when taking off your shoes, knowing that you made the effort to come to his studio for him. You carried a bag from what he presumes is food from the convenience store at your side. Gosh, what time did he last eat?
“You didn’t have to come here, Y/N.” Jihoon reaches a hand out to help steady you as you chuck your shoes off to the side.
“I had to, honey.” The term of endearment sends something through his heart. “I can’t stop thinking about you continuously pushing yourself these days. I miss having you at home.”
Before he could respond, you take his hand in yours and lead him to the couch, placing down the plastic bag on the table. Jihoon helps you unpack the contents inside. It was just two bowls of ramen and a pack of microwaveable rice.
“Here, I’ll warm this up for us. Just wait on the couch.” Jihoon takes lead and grabs the two bowls of ramen and rice, bringing it to the little kitchen area to the side and filling the bowls up with preprepared hot water.
You find yourself sprawled on top of the couch, watching your boyfriend quietly hum his way through the studio. Even though you were tired yourself, you made an objective to not fall asleep right on the spot. You wanted him to be with you. You wanted him to try and fall asleep with you, and maybe just maybe help him get some decent sleep even for one night.
And if you had to keep showing up to his studio to coax him out of work, then that’s what you were going to do. Nothing was going to stop you.
Once Jihoon finishes warming up the rice and letting the ramen cool down, he brings the food back to where you are and sits himself down on the couch right next to you.
The two of you eat in comfortable silence, though there was a bit of lingering tension in the air knowing that the elephant in the room had to be addressed at some point. For now you both just cherish the time together since a lot of Jihoon’s work had interfered the two of you from fbeing able to spend time with each other.
Once you finish eating, you glance over at him, pushing back some of his dark loose strands in his face behind his ear so that you could see his side-profile better. You see his lips curve up in small appreciation, but he can’t seem to get himself to make eye contact with you. The guilt coursing through him felt as if he was a bit more distant than usual.
“You know you deserve a break sometimes, right?” You ask him, watching him take in your words so heavily that it makes him momentarily pause.
Jihoon nods his head, a small sigh leaving his lips. “I know. But ever since we discussed our comeback preparations, I... I can’t help myself, you know? I need to make everything perfect.”
You listen to him carefully, taking in his words like the gentle melody he has the art in making. Jihoon had always been aware of the immense pressure on his shoulder over the years and it just now began to take an obvious toll on his health both mentally and physically.
“I just can’t rest knowing I have all these ideas, all these words for lyrics...” Jihoon scrunches his face up together, exhaling a deep breath. “But I do wish I can just sleep and rest.”
That’s when your face lights up just a bit. “That’s why I’m here. You’re going to take a rest with me, whether you like it or not.”
Jihoon peers at you as if you were crazy. “Y/N𑁋”
“Jihoon, honey, please rest with me. One night is all I ask for,” You practically beg him. “At least lay here with me until morning. I know your work is important to you, but... I miss you. I miss holding you and when you hold me.”
You stare at him with pleading eyes and Jihoon can never get himself to resist you. Though he has a lot of trouble expressing how he feels, he can never deny just how vulnerable and sensitive you make him sometimes. You always found the smallest ways to take care of him, even if it meant sacrificing yourself in a way. He’s always been grateful for that, and he knows that someday he will repay you. He has to.
Jihoon glances between you and his open computer in the background, finally letting his shoulders relax.
“Okay.” He stands up, motioning to his computer. “Let me just turn all this off and then I can hold you.”
You shake your head amusedly. “I’d rather hold you this time if that’s okay with you.”
Jihoon feels a smile creep on his face as he walks to turn off his computer and soundboard. He’s not against that idea either.

FIRESIDE — l.jh
four months after you broke up, you send a questionable series of texts to your ex boyfriend at far too late of an hour for it to be considered 'a good idea'. but well... the nights were mainly made for saying things that you can't say tomorrow day, right?

[21:08]
jihoon watched you from the floor to ceiling window of his art class as you played with the small kitten, a soft smile tugging at your lips. even though it was raining harshly, you made sure your umbrella was covering the small kitten more than you, thus drenching your back completely.
he felt the now familiar jump of his heart as he watched you cuddle the kitten, feeling his cheeks heat up when he realised he was staring. quickly looking away from you and to his half done canvas instead, jihoon wondered what had gotten into him to be mesmerised by you.
you were just another girl, who always came around this time to feed the little kitten that lived near his art class.
you were just another girl who smiled and played with the said kitten even though he observed that you always ended up scraping your knees against the gravel.
you were just another girl who was so kind, and sweet, and pretty that you were willing to risk your health just so that ‘meowy’ (as you had named it) could be given her food.
and you were just another girl who’s laughter carried through the glass window of his class and slowly began pulling at his heart strings, until he was completely pulled into the sea of feelings for you, never realised when he had started drowning.
so what had gotten into jihoon that he had fallen in love with a complete stranger; with you?
as he watched you take out some cat food from your sling bag, he wondered if he should just give you his umbrella which was next to the door right now. or should he just rush and leave it beside without saying a word, acting nonchalantly like he was just doing this because he saw you getting drenched and not because he was just a dork trying to get your number?
what had soonyoung said? grab the opportunity? jihoon really wasn’t sure if this was the opportunity his best friend was talking about, but maybe he should just give it a shot. if things went wrong (like it usually did whenever he tried confessing to someone) he could just pretend it had slipped from his hand.
he glanced one last time at his canvas before getting up. funny how he was painting a grey rainy scene because the rain always made him feel sombre and empty, but people also said it was romantic, so maybe this was a sign.
maybe when he came back from dropping off his umbrella…he could paint in some other brighter colours.
as he began getting up from his chair, he saw someone run towards you through the corner of his eyes. he froze as he watched the said person pull you off your feet and cover you with an umbrella before beginning to scold you, all the while you laughed.
jihoon watched the scene for a few seconds until the newcomer gave up scolding you, a smile breaking on his face instead. and then leaning down, he gently kissed you on your lips.
he felt every single muscle in his body tighten as his stomach dropped from an incredible height, a suffocating feeling taking over his chest. he could feel bile threatening to rise up his throat as his head spun.
jihoon could feel his mind literally shattering as he felt his heart stop beating. what- what was happening? you had a…boyfriend?
as he watched the two of you walk away slowly in the rain, fond gazes at each other, he felt tears sting his eyes.
oh.
finally his legs gave away and he fell back onto his chair, still reeling from the shock.
the feeling of throwing up was getting stronger and stronger as he tried wrapping his mind around what he had just seen, the salty tears that he was holding back threatening to choke him.
he sat there for some time, exhaling and inhaling harshly to get control of his body once more.
why was he crying? he wondered. shouldn’t he be happy for you? you were being loved by someone as you deserved so shouldn’t the fact that you were happy be enough for him?
but he wished…that it was him who was making you happy.
by the time he had the courage to look up at the window again, you were gone. the rain had slowed down to a drizzle and he could see the sun rays peeking out of the clouds. his eyes drifted back to the grey canvas. maybe it should stay like this.

congratulations! | lee jihoon
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
angst | 1.8k words | warnings: jihoon is a toxic ex (sorry), profanities, hands thrown (could’ve been more tbh), slight bff!kwan x reader
an: happiest birthday my bestie, my wifey, the one and only @bluehoodiewoozi !!!!! yes this was originally written for our tiny xmas exchange but it’s your birthday today saur… here ya go. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!
You nervously paced up and down your cramped hallway. Alternating between biting your nails and your lips, you willed your boyfriend Jihoon– no, was he your ex now?– to pick up your calls. Each passing second amplified the anxiety. You felt your heart beat loudly in your chest, almost drowning out the outside world. Dialling his number again, your gaze was fixed on the screen, willing it to light up with his response.
“C’mon, pick up…”
The cryptic text that Jihoon had sent you made no sense at all. You didn’t understand how it all went up in flames in a blink of an eye. When was it that your relationship started to go wrong? Sure, you hadn’t seen him in a while due to scheduling conflicts, but had the two of you drifted so apart to the point he warranted a break? And through text, no less!
His text (“I need some time to myself. Let’s take a break.”) was accompanied by numerous of your own, all left unanswered. It was pathetic, really, how your texts evolved from demanding an explanation to you begging him to stay. Still, you continued to send messages in hopes that he would reply at least one of them eventually, even if your all calls ended up going to voicemail.
The room around you seemed to close in, every sound a distraction. Your mind raced with questions and uncertainties, replaying the moments that had led up to the abrupt breakup. The anticipation was both unbearable and desperate, yearning for some form of reassurance or closure.
Tension only seemed to thicken in the air as you listened in on the phone’s ringing. You could almost feel the weight of unspoken words hanging in the silence. Doubt crept in, and you questioned whether Jihoon would answer, whether he even wanted to hear from you. The vulnerability of the situation makes you second-guess every aspect of the relationship that led to this point.
“The number you have dialled is currently not available. Please try again later.” You sighed as you were directed to voicemail for the nth time.
He didn’t pick up this time either.
-
It had been 5 months since your ex became your ex.
The constant checking of your phone morphed into a ritual, with each unanswered call deepening the ache in your chest. You wonder if Jihoon was purposefully avoiding your calls, adding a layer of rejection to the already painful experience. It wasn’t like you didn’t try reaching out on social media; for someone who rarely used social media, he had already made sure to block you on all possible platforms. The silence on the other end of the line becomes a void, echoing the emotional distance that has suddenly emerged.
The unanswered calls left you grappling with a mix of emotions—fear of the unknown, longing for reconciliation, and the harsh reality that things may never be the same again.
Boo Seungkwan, your ever-loving best friend, had barged into your humble abode after you had holed yourself inside, coming out only for work or to throw the trash. You were grateful to Seungkwan for dragging you out for brunch– you almost missed the way the sun felt on your skin. Brunch was a simple affair, the cafe lulled by the muffled conversations of its patrons. Your best friend hardly minded your subdued temperament; rather, he took the lead for most of the conversation, knowing that you would be more content with just listening in. It didn’t take much for you to fall into Seungkwan’s comfortable companionship, throwing jokes and punches at each other as if you hadn’t been unceremoniously dumped.
That was, until you saw him.
The bell above the cafe door chimed as Lee Jihoon, in all his glory, walked into the very cafe you and Seungkwan sat in, an arm snaked around another girl’s waist.
Time seemed to slow as you registered their presence. They had just entered the cafe when your eyes unintentionally locked for a brief moment. Your heart skipped a beat, a wave of conflicting emotions washing over you. Beside him was a new face, someone unfamiliar yet uncomfortably close.
As they navigated through the tables, you couldn’t help but watch, the air growing heavier with every step they took. From the way they causally held hands, to how Jihoon would bump shoulders with his companion; the casual ease in their conversation hints at a connection that is fresh and unfamiliar, replacing the shared history that once existed between the two of you. It was an unwelcome scene, playing out right in front of you.
The comforting ambience of the cafe suddenly felt oppressive as you grappled with a mix of emotions—surprise, nostalgia, and an uninvited twinge of sadness. Your gaze inadvertently followed them to a nearby table, and you find yourself caught between the desire to look away and the magnetic pull of curiosity.
The speed of your smile dropping as you halted mid-laughter caused Seungwkan to whip towards the reason why.
“Y/n?” you vaguely registered Seungkwan trying to shift your attention away from them. Yet, you couldn’t look away. Jihoon’s laugh beckons you as always, a siren’s call slowly piercing dull daggers through your heart.
Eventually, you pulled your gaze away from him and back to your best friend. His emotions are clearly plastered on his face, and you find yourself mirroring him through the reflection in his eyes: surprise, disbelief, pain, disappointment.
“Its nothing, Kwan.” your whispered, but your attempt at reassuring your friend was anything but convincing.
“The audacity?! The nerve he has to come here, and with a new beau too!” Being the best friend that he was, Seungkwan shifted his seat, attempting to block your view of them. Your gaze softened at your friend’s attempt to make you feel better.
There was just something about the way Jihoon treated the girl so preciously that didn’t sit right with you. How he pulled a chair out for her, smiling shyly when she thanked him. How his eyes never left hers.
How he looked so happy while you were barely picking up the pieces of you that he had brutally smashed and left for dead.
-
“Jihoon.” Before you knew it, your feet brought you over to his table, looming over his side, face void of any emotion. From the corner of your eye, Seungkwan let out a huge sigh at your actions, running his hand through his hair in his seat.
Jihoon looked up in surprise, no doubt that he wasn’t expecting to run into you today.
“Y/n?” His eyes made contact everywhere except with you. He inhaled deeply, shutting his eyes to steel himself before finally looking at you. “Its nice to see you again. How have you been?”
“You asked for a break.”
“Are you here with someone? It’s been a while since we’ve met-”
“You asked for a break,” you breathed, cutting into his words. “Why? Did I do something to wrong you? Or were you just bored of me, looking for a new muse?”
“Y/n,” his eyes were begging you not to call for attention in the cafe. “Let’s not–“
“How have I been?” You scoff. “You’re so unbelievable. Funny you asked, considering how you just up and left me with no explanation.”
You didn’t mean for your words to come out filled with a sudden surge of venom and hostility. 5 months’ worth of pain, confusion and anguish took over you the longer you stared at the man who was once the love of your life. The girl on the other side looked on in confusion, reaching out for your ex’s hand across the table.
“Honey, who is this?” God, how infuriating her naivety was.
“An old acquaintence, darling. An old classmate from uni.”
The warm and gentle smile he gave her, one that used to be directed to you, caused another sudden surge of anger to bubble within you. All you saw was red. You didn’t have time to register your next actions; your hand instinctively reaching for the glass of water on his table and dumping its contents all over him.
Water dripped from his hair and onto his neatly pressed shirt as he leaped to his feet in surprise. Some of the water dripped on to the table, splashing onto the girl as well.
“Y/n what the fuck?! What’s wrong with you, what was that for?!” Its strange, you thought. For all the years you’ve known him, you’ve never heard him this loud before.
The entire cafe fell silent, watching your every move. The sudden tension was thick enough to be suffocating even the baristas, who had paused making drinks to watch the drama unfold before their very eyes.
Jihoon continued to wipe himself down with napkins. He wasn’t looking at you, but the malevolence in his voice was clearly directed towards you.
“Move on, y/n. Can’t you see I’m happier now without you?”
“Why should I have to wish happiness for you, who left me via text?” You couldn’t help but sneer back, bitterness on full display. You both continued your staring match, eyes filled with disdain for the other, until you felt Seungkwan tug on your arm.
“C’mon. He’s not worth.” Your best friend whispered, wanting to remove you from the situation before you exploded even more. He had already gathered your things, your bag slung over his shoulder as he tugged on yours.
You threw him one last look. Of disgust, of broken trust, of betrayal. “Congratulations, you sick son of a bitch.”
Turning on your heel, you stalked out of the cafe, Seungkwan just behind you. Hushed conversations in the cafe spring back to life as you left. Despite your better judgement, you took one last look at your ex. Not that he noticed– his attention was fully occupied by the girl fretting over his now-damp attire.
You successfully made it round the block before collapsing into Seungkwan’s arms. Sobs racked your body as he knelt down beside you, rubbing circles onto your back as your tears drenched his t-shirt, whole body shaking from the ferocity of your cries. He didn’t mind how your fists crumpled his outfit, or how you seemed to cling to him like a lifeline. Directing your head into the crook of his neck, Seungkwan could only whisper words of comfort, smoothening your hair to calm you down.
Your breath tickled his neck as you tried to say something, voice meek and tired and drained. Pulling you away, Seungkwan thumbs away your tears, coaxing you to repeat yourself.
“It’s like nothing happened. Like I didn’t exist.” You sniffle. “Like we didn’t exist.
“How does he expect me to move on, Kwan? He’s smiling like nothing ever happened.”
Seungkwan’s heart ached for you. His strong, independent best friend whose heart was trampled and shattered for no reason, but all he could do was rub your back. His fists balled up in frustration. How he wished for you to be treated better.
How he wished he could show you he could treat you better.

Comfort In You (1)
Pairing : Kwon Soonyoung x Reader
Genre : Fluff, Angst
Warnings : Jihoon is rude
Dates Like You (2)
When you fight with your best friend, it drains you emotionally and you fall asleep in your car only to wake up to your crush's face. Thankfully, he's good at comforting people.
You were kind of nervous when you enter Jihoon's studio after not meeting up with him for almost 3 weeks. Part of you wanted to blame him for not answering to any of your calls or messages. The other part knew that he was probably just busy, being a song producer.
Jihoon had been your friend for literally 10 years. When you met him he was just the cute, shy boy who had a big passion for music. That passion led to him being one of the best song producers in South Korea. And you were with him throughout all of it. It wasn't like him to ghost you all of a sudden.
You clench the plastic bag filled with Jihoon's favorite food as you walk to his room. You knock on the door and you hear some rustling noises from inside.
"Yeah, coming"
When Jihoon opens the door, you can barely recognize him. His eyes were covered with dark circles and his hair was a mess. He looked like he hadn't slept for days.
You expected him to at least smile at you but what you got instead was a hard glare.
"What are you doing here?" Jihoon asks, his voice cold.
"I brought you food. You weren't answering my calls or texts so I got worried," you say with a smile.
"Who asked you to bring me food? Do you think I'm a child? I can get myself food if I want"
You stare at him, trying to process what he just said. It was fine if he was busy but he didn't have to show his frustration towards you, right?
"Well, I just bought these. You can eat them later or something"
"Gods, why are you so annoying?"
Upon hearing this, your chest burns with anger. Why was he acting like you weren't suddenly friends anymore?
"Annoying? Me? I was worried about you, you bastard. How dare you call me annoying?"
Jihoon's eyes didn't even have a hint of regret or guilt.
"You're wasting my time"
Your eyes burn as tears threaten to fall. You wipe them away with your sweater.
"You," you point as finger at him ,"are not worthy of being my friend anymore"
"I'm glad. You were a pain in the back anyways"
Those words hurt like a slap across the face. How long was he thinking like that? Were all those moments you had fun just fake? Millions of questions swarm in your head.
"I was there for you when you were at your worst. Let's see who's going to collect shit up for you from now on," with that being said, you leave Jihoon's place.
When you get in your car, you cannot help yourself but cry. He was your friend of 10 years. How can he suddenly be so rude and break your heart? You didn't deserve it. You rest your head on the steering wheel and close your eyes.
As the night sky stays calm as always, you fall asleep, tears staining your cheeks.
↶*ೃ✧˚. ❃ ↷ ˊ- ↶*ೃ✧˚. ❃ ↷ ˊ-
You wake up to the sound of someone knocking on your window. Your eyes flutter open and you immediately blink, trying to get used to the sudden brightness.
As you rub your eyes, you turn to look at your window only to find Soonyoung with a concerned look on his face.
Soonyoung was your and Jihoon's friend. You had a tiny crush on him but never told anyone. He was this cute, shy and hyper guy that never failed to make you laugh.
You open your car door and Soonyoung crouches down so that he was on eye level with you.
"Let me drive you home"
↶*ೃ✧˚. ❃ ↷ ˊ- ↶*ೃ✧˚. ❃ ↷ ˊ-
The silence wasn't uncomfortable. That was for sure. You didn't say anything when he offered to drive you but moved to the passenger's seat which indicated that you agreed.
He didn't question you, asking what happened which reminded you once more why you really like him.
"Do you want to eat?" he asks and before you can say anything your stomach started to rumble. Great timing.
Soonyoung laughs, "I guess that's a yes". Your face flushes in embarrassment.
"What do you want to eat?"
"Ramen"
"Okay"
You look at him, surprised. Usually the type of reaction you get from people(mainly Jihoon) when you say you wanted to eat Ramen for breakfast was a mortified look.
Soonyoung must have noticed your widened eyes because he immediately says, "I know what you're thinking. It's fine. You've had a hard day. You deserve to eat something you like"
You were already starting to feel a bit better. You smile, happy that Soonyoung was there for you when you needed someone. Still, Jihoon had been there for you all those years. Suddenly, removing him from your life seemed like something impossible.
You turn to look at Soonyoung and noticing his faint yet contagious smile something clicks in your mind.
With this boy in your life, anything was possible.
"So, do you know any good place to get Ramen?"
↶*ೃ✧˚. ❃ ↷ ˊ- ↶*ೃ✧˚. ❃ ↷ ˊ-
"I'm glad you decided to do this for me today. Thank you so much," you pat your stomach which was full from all the Ramen you had eaten and some macarons you had gotten from a cafe nearby, "Do you want to come in?"
"It's okay. I have to go for dance practice right now anyways," Soonyoung says, rubbing the back of his neck, his cheeks dusted in pink, "I had a lot of fun even if my plan was only to make you feel better"
"In that case, I'd say it worked very well. I had fun too"
"Just so you know, Y/n, you don't deserve whatever that made you cry"
You look at him, silently deciding whether to tell him about your fight with Jihoon or not. You decided to go with the former.
"Jihoon fought with me. Called me annoying and a pain in the back. I'm not sure if we can ever go back to being friends anymore," you tell him. Soonyoung looked like he couldn't believe it.
"I don't know what's gotten into him but I am not talking to him until he apologizes to you," he huffs and you try to keep yourself from pinching his cheeks because he looked so adorable.
"It's okay, Soonyoung. You don't have to do that. I'm the one he doesn't want to talk to. I don't want your friendship to be ruined because of me"
Soonyoung gives another huff, "Leave him. He'll come back to you once he gets a brain surgery done. I mean ho-," you didn't know what had gotten you so bold but you had already pressed your lips against his to shut him up. Soonyoung gives a startled squeak just before you pull away.
"I'm sorry. I think you have to get to practice. See you some time later. Bye," you say and before the poor boy could say anything you had already closed your door.
You lean your back against the door, trying to calm your racing heart. Did you just ruin everything?
On the opposite side, Soonyoung had a hand covering his flushed face and a small smile appeared on his face.
"I do have to go to practice now but I'm taking you out tomorrow. Get ready," he shouts before walking away, his lips still lingering from the kiss you had given.
Inside, you were grinning like a baboon. You thought about how bad everything had started but now the fight with Jihoon was fading from your mind.
Something about Soonyoung was just so comforting that it made you forget everything else.
Maybe, that's why you liked him so much.

Jihoon was so fucked.
To his credit, he is trying. Trying to ignore the fact that his body feels some sort of attraction towards his soulmate, situated only a few feet away from him on a beach chair. Trying to ignore the ink embedded into your skin along your collarbone that he can see out of his peripheral vision.
Trying to ignore temptation.
Your sunglasses are pushed up your nose to keep the sun out of your eyes, having opted to let the sun warm your body up instead of making your way into the water. It’s unusual for Jihoon to see you so still and so silent, simply basking in the sunlight as a hand belonging to Jisoo reaches up to pat your calf. Jihoon immediately scowls to himself when he sees the older man glance up at you from his towel, asking quietly if you’re good to which you respond with a little nod and smile before leaning your head back again and relaxing into the beach chair.
Your soulmate heaves a soft sigh as he checks his phone for the fourth time in the last two hours. Ji-ah was due to arrive back in Seoul soon and he has been growing increasingly more worried the longer it takes for her to not answer.
“Y/N!” A loud voice rouses you from your hungover slumber, causing you to whine and look at the shadow that is now blocking the sun from you that comes in the form of a 6’2 man named Kim Mingyu.
“Mm?” You grumble.
“Why won’t you come swimming with us?” he pouts at you, hands on his hips.
“I’m having my enrichment time out of my enclosure.” You deadpan, eyes closing again, a little grin forming on your face as you hear Mingyu let out a loud whine.
“Please can you come in the water?”
“Why does it have to be me?” You groan.
“Because Wonwoo can’t do swimming because of an accident when he was younger, Kwan and Sol are in their own little honeymoon phase world over there,” he points to said couple who are making an intricate sand castle, “Minnie is hanging off Soonie-hyung like a rash, Hannie-hyung will just attempt to use us all as a floatation device-”
“What makes you think I won’t do the same?” You raise your eyebrow.
“AND,” he glares at you, ignoring your comment. “Your brother is sulking that it’s only me who is playing with him. Please?”
“Do I have to?” You throw your head back with a dramatic sigh.
“If you don’t come in the water willingly, I will have to take you by force, Y/Nie.”
“Ha ha ha.” You roll your eyes. “I’d like to see you try.”
Jihoon has kept his back to you both for the entirety of your interaction with Mingyu, deciding on his own that he needs to actually follow Jeonghan’s advice and actively make an effort to at least attempt to ignore you and help you move on. He is finding it extremely difficult, however, due to the bikini you’re currently in looking too inviting for you to wriggle your way into his thoughts like a catchy song that can’t seem to escape his brain.
Mingyu seems to take your words as a challenge though, as not even two seconds later, Jihoon is alerted by a shriek coming from you.
“KIM MINGYU!” You try and scold, the large man having now scooped you up into his arms, marching his way towards the water. Jeonghan and Wonwoo both begin to laugh at the way you flail and kick to no avail.
“Yes, Y/Nie?” Mingyu grins at you, and you thrash more.
“Kim Mingyu, I swear if you don’t put me the fuck down right now…”
“Oh, put you down?” He smirks. “Okay!”
“YAH!” You let out another squeal as he moves to drop you, but you’re faster. You immediately wrap your arms and legs around his torso, squeezing onto him for dear life. Seungcheol bursts out laughing at the sight of you, a big smile on his face as he watches on.
“I meant out of the water, you BRAT!” You smack at Mingyu’s back, who only trudges deeper into the water. You whine loudly and cling tighter to him.
“Are you sure you want to call me a brat when I could sink both of us into the water right now?” He raises his eyebrows at you, arms down by his sides as you hold onto him like a backpack..
“Yah!” You whimper, burying your face into his shoulder. Jihoon bristles at the feeling in his stomach. “Okay, okay, I’m sorry! I’ll hang out!”
“Told you it would work.” Mingyu smirks to your brother, who only grins back triumphantly.
“I hate that you know me too well.” You groan, carefully untangling yourself from the overgrown puppy’s broad back, shivering at the feeling of the cold water as you sink your feet into the salty beach water. “I swear to god though, if you try to push me under the water, I will end you.”
Soonyoung only giggles at the glare on your face, glancing back to the shore at Jeonghan. “Hyung, isn’t she cute when she’s angry?”
“The cutest!” Jeonghan calls back, an amused smirk forming on his face as you shoot your brother’s soulmate a glare.
“I hate you all.” You grumble, crossing your arms with a pout, only making the boys around you giggle more.
“Oh come here, you big baby.” Seokmin turns around, offering his back to you.
Jihoon feels the immediate change in your mood lift to excitement, glancing over to see you happily perched up on Seokmin’s back, who wades slowly through the water with you comfortably resting against him.
“Thank you Minnie~” You sing sweetly, hugging around his shoulders.
“Hey!” Mingyu points accusingly at you. “That isn’t fair! I went through all that work to bring you out here only to have you be coddled in the water too?”
“Be grateful I’m even here, Mingyu.” You playfully glare at him, Seokmin turning you away from him as Soonyoung starts cooing and patting your head, making you grin.
“Aish, what are we going to do with you…”
Tumblr media
For the next hour, Jihoon knows he is torturing himself by listening to the others around him (aka you) have fun. Him, alongside Jeonghan, Wonwoo, Seungkwan and Hansol watches as you with the others play happily around in the water. For the better part of twenty minutes, the game of choice, chosen by the birthday boy, has been Marco Polo. You have opted out of this game, your soulmate keeping an eye on your head currently nestled against Seokmin’s warm shoulder, eyes fluttering closed as the heat from the sun covers you like a blanket and makes your sleepiness return at full force. You look peaceful, he thinks.
His calm thoughts soon turn to discomfort as he feels his phone vibrate against his pocket, hurriedly reaching down to check the text, only to feel himself deflate at the message from his girlfriend.
Made it safe. x
No nickname, no warmth, no nothing. This is seriously unlike Ji-ah at all, and it has Jihoon nervous. Should he reply like normal? Or should he give his girlfriend the space she needs to handle her emergency?
“Jihoon-ah?” Wonwoo’s voice cuts his thoughts short, startling his housemate as he turns to stare at him with wide eyes. “You okay over there?”
“Uh, y-yeah.” He hums slightly. “Ji-ah just let me know she made it home safely.”
“That’s good, isn’t it?”
Is it?
“Yeah, I suppose.” Jihoon replies after a short pause, sighing quietly.
“It’s okay to be worried about her.” Wonwoo smiles at him, patting his shoulder gently. “After all, she is your-”
“YAH!” Your voice squeals out, alarming the others as they turn to look at the ocean. You’re swatting at your brother, who is loudly cackling and snatching you from Seokmin’s arms. “Get away from me, you big buffoon!”
The others upon the shore begin to laugh and smile at Seungcheol as he spins you around bridal style. “You dare be rude to your big brother on his birthday, hmm?”
“HANNIE OPPA!” You shriek as Jihoon glances at your brother’s soulmate, who simply smirks back. “DO SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR SOULMATE!”
“And ruin my hair if I fall into the water? You’re on your own, Ladybug.”
“You bast-AAAAAH!” You yelp as Seungcheol tosses you to Mingyu, who catches you effortlessly. “I hate you all!”
“What did I do?!” Seungkwan fires back immediately, wagging his finger dramatically at you as the others laugh at the joyful mood surrounding them all.
Jihoon breathes a sigh of relief at the change of subject from Wonwoo’s questioning, letting his head lean back to briefly glance at the sky as he delves back into his own thoughts.
“Aw, come on guys, leave the girl alone!” Jisoo chuckles as he rises from his towel, tucking a surfboard under his arm. He jogs into the sea, sitting up on his board as he paddles his way over to the group. “Come here, Goober. I’ll save you from these punks.” He laughs as Mingyu turns away from him, holding you tight to his chest.
“Nuh-uh! She stays with us!”
“She’s not going to stray far, promise.” He pats the board gently, making the tall man sigh and plonk you down in front of your childhood friend.
“Thank you, Shua’ppa.” You smile sweetly at him before poking your tongue out at Mingyu, who huffs and splashes you playfully, making you yelp.
“Do you know how to surf, Goob?” Jisoo asks gently, giving you a cheeky grin.
“Hong Jisoo.” You deadpan, raising an eyebrow. “I am a homebody girl from Daegu. What do you think?”
“Well,” he ignores your sass, crossing his arms across his chest as you mimic him. “Would you like to learn?”
“When I feel like throwing up from how the ocean is rocking me right now?” You laugh. “I think that’s a recipe for disaster.”
“Hmm.. you make a compelling argument.” He hums sagely, reaching up and stroking his chin, trying not to grin at the sound of your giggles. “How about then I teach you how to keep your balance on the board? No wave riding.”
“Can you guarantee that I won’t fall in?” Jisoo simply raises his hand up, his pinky extended to link with yours, flashing you an angelic smile. You narrow your eyes for a moment before reaching out to link your pinky with his. “I swear, if I fall in…”
“Trust me, Goober!”
Jihoon blinks and raises his head as he feels your amusement filling his veins, eyes coming into focus as he curiously gazes out to the sea to see why you’re feeling this way.
Your legs are shaking as you attempt to stand on the idle surfboard, your nervous laughs reaching down to where your soulmate sits. Jisoo is standing behind you with his large hands settled delicately on your bare waist, keeping you steady as he talks quietly into your ear on how to stand correctly that Jihoon can’t hear.
Jihoon feels his hair stand on end as his eyes zero in on the older man’s hands resting on your bare skin, bristling in his chair slightly.
“You can do it, Ladybug!” Jeonghan is cheering from the shore, an amused grin on his face as you flip him off.
“Focus, Goober.” Jisoo’s voice is steady as he keeps his hands on you.
You take a deep breath, standing with your legs apart as he directs you, biting down on your lip and holding your arms out to keep your balance, your eyes squeezing shut.
“That’s it!” Seungcheol cheers you on from the water, keeping a hold on the surfboard so it doesn’t toss and tip as much.
“Look at her go, babe!” Seungkwan coos excitedly to Hansol from their spot in the sand, as his soulmate watches on with an amused smile.
“Bug, open your eyes!” Soonyoung laughs at your scrunched up face.
“Goober,” Jisoo laughs, both hands now in the air. “You’re doing it. Open your eyes.”
You slowly open your eyes, looking down to see your legs balancing on the board. Your eyes widen as you look around at Soonyoung, Seokmin, Seungcheol and Mingyu in the water, all cheering excitedly at you and Jisoo standing behind you with a proud grin.
“Holy fuck.” You laugh nervously. “I’m doing it.”
“WOOHOO!” Seungkwan cheers from ashore, waving excitedly with Hansol as Wonwoo simply gives you a thumbs up from beside your soulmate, who just stares with a bewildered look on his face, not knowing how to comprehend the feelings that are in his stomach.
“See?” Jisoo smiles charmingly at you, leaning in to press his lips to your temple. “I told you that you could do it.”
Jihoon grimaces at the shy smile that graces your face.
Tumblr media
“Jihoon-ssi?”
“Hmm?” Jihoon’s brain switches into focus at the sound of your brother's voice calling out for him.
They had been back at the campsite now for roughly two hours after a long birthday dinner in the city for Seungcheol, full of fried chicken and even more alcohol. Everyone now has settled down around the campfire, ready for a final night of alcohol and drinking games for the last hurrah of the trip.
“Soonyoungie said that you are studying music production.” He smiles warmly at him. Jihoon bristles. “What made you want to pursue that?”
“O-oh.” He stutters. “Umm..”
It’s not that he was afraid of his soulmate’s brother and the fact that if he knew that he rejected his precious sister, he’d rip his head off, no, it was the fact that Jihoon isn’t a very sociable person. He has never been one to hold any type of conversation for very long with anyone unless it was something he was passionate about. Luckily for him, music is one of his specialties that he could go on for hours about. So, he does.
”My older cousin is an amateur producer and songwriter.” Jihoon quietly smiles. “He has a few albums that he’s made at the moment. His soulmate does choreography for some of his tracks. I always thought he was really cool and wanted to follow his footsteps and do what he does. I guess I’m kind of his protege now?” He shrugs his shoulders nervously with a chuckle. “There’s just something I find really interesting about breaking down a song into different segments and sections, and creating completely new beats and melodies from the source material.”
“Wow,” Seungcheol replies with curious eyes. “That’s actually really interesting.”
”I suppose so,” your soulmate nods his head as he smiles shyly to himself.
“Do you plan on releasing things in the future?”
“Oh! Um.. Maybe?” He blinks. “I write a few things here and there, but they’re not very good, I don’t think.”
“Don’t downplay your skills and hobbies, Jihoon-ssi.” Seungcheol pats his shoulder once as he rises from his spot by the campfire. “If you enjoy it, that’s all that matters.” He makes his way to grab himself a second serving of the birthday cake you had brought from your work for the final night of Seungcheol’s birthday celebrations.
Jihoon smiles to himself.
He is so kind. No wonder you turned out so well. After all, he did help raise you for most of your teen years.
“It’s not tap, tap, kick,” Soonyoung instructs loudly. “It’s tap, kick, tap! Yah, don’t you remember anything from this routine, Kwan-ah?”
“We made this dance four years ago, Hyung.” Seungkwan glares, hand on his hip. “Please spare me for not remembering a dance that is nearly HALF A DECADE old.”
“NO EXCUSES!” He shouts back, pointing dramatically as he begins to get back into position. “Five, six, seven, eight!” Seungkwan groans and begrudgingly begins to move in time to Soonyoung’s movements, much to your amusement as you weave your way through the camping chairs, bundles of bracelets in hand.
“One for you,” You chirp, two bottles of soju deep as you slide a bracelet onto Seungkwan’s wrist as you pass without skipping a beat. “And a specially made tiger one for you,” You coo, squeaking and giggling as Soonyoung takes your hand, twirling you in his arms and dipping you dramatically as the bracelet slides with ease onto his wrist, your loud laugh echoing through the empty forest and right into your soulmate’s ears, sending goosebumps down his arms.
”Thank you, Buggie Wuggie Boo,” Soonyoung coos, making you groan and shove him away.
“ICK!” You yell as you continue to pass bracelets through the group, Jihoon eyeing you out of the corner of his eye as you draw closer towards where he sits. “Here you go, Hannie-Oppa!”
”Thank you, sweetheart.” your brother’s soulmate smiles, ruffling your hair as he admires the colourful beads on his wrist.
Jihoon takes a deep breath as he feels your presence draw closer, eyes downcast as you fiddle with one of two bracelets in your hand. “Jihoon-ssi,” your voice is once again timid and shy, and he dislikes it. “I didn’t know what colour you liked, and I noticed your wardrobe is pretty void of colour, so…” You quietly place a simple black and grey beaded bracelet with his name written in lettered beads in the middle on his lap. “I thought it matches your look.”
Jihoon stares at the bracelet, picking it up and examining it between his fingers. He can feel your nerves running through your stomach, fiddling with the remaining bracelet in your hands. After a soft sigh, Jihoon slips the bracelet onto his wrist, cheeks warming at the kind gesture of you still including him.
“It’s perfect.” Jihoon smiles softly to you. “Thank you, Y/N.”
Your cheeks flush as you give him a small smile, turning and making your way towards Chan, who said quietly beside Wonwoo as he ate.
“I saved the best bracelet for last,” you smile to the youngest, sliding the final bracelet onto his wrist delicately.
“What colour is it, Noona?” Chan asks quietly, staring at the beads intently.
“Well,” you begin, sitting down beside him. “I made this with every coloured bead I could think of. It’s a rainbow.”
“Huh?” Chan balked, tilting his head. “Why would you do that? I can’t even see them…”
”I made it this way because then, the day that you meet your soulmate,” you nudge the bracelet, “you will be able to see all the colours of the rainbow straight away.” Your eyes light up with a little smile.
Jihoon’s stomach drops at the sound of hope and joy in your voice that is almost infectious, and he scowls to himself.
“Hannie-Oppa did the same for me, see?” You chirp, holding your hand out and showing Chan your nails, now chipped and slightly overgrown. “He gave me all the colours I could have on my hand, and I wanted to do the same to you.”
“B-but…” Chan takes a quiet breath. “Noona.. wh-what if… what if I meet my soulmate and it doesn’t work out? What if… what if I’m left behind and look like a complete fool?” He stares at his lap, knee bouncing nervously.
Your soulmate feels a twist of discomfort in his gut at the maknae’s question, turning his head to see the same discomfort evident on your face.
“Chan-ah,” you smile softly, reaching up to ruffle his hair. “Don’t be silly.”
“B-but you-”
“Uh-uh-uh,” you wiggle your finger at him. “Things like that only happen to people like me, who are just simply unlucky in life.” Jihoon feels the dagger pressing against his chest. “You, little one, are lucky, and I know your soulmate will be absolutely smitten with you when you meet. And, in that impossible scenario,” You bump your shoulder against his, “you’ll always have all of these guys here to spend time with. And even Noona too.” You add on for good measure, smiling sweetly at him. Jihoon feels the dagger twist inside him. Chan shyly smiles back, leaning his head against your shoulder, signaling for you to give him a big side hug, cheek resting against the top of his head.
“Promise I’ll always have you, Noona?”
“Silly boy,” You giggle. “I couldn’t leave you alone, even if I tried.” You ruffle his hair once more, causing him to whine and swat your arm, your giggle growing once more as Jihoon feels his stomach twist and tighten, a million thoughts once again flooding his mind.
“Okay,” Seokmin settles comfortably in his chair, looking around at the circle. “Here’s a question.” He hums quietly at the small group that has formed around him of you, Wonwoo, Jisoo, Jeonghan and Jihoon. “If you could have one wish that could be granted, what would you wish for?” Before anyone can open their mouths, he points aggressively towards Jeonghan. “NO WISHING FOR MORE WISHES!”
“Yah, you’re no fun.” Jeonghan whines, slumping in his chair and crossing his arms.
“I would wish for…” Wonwoo mumbles. “Being able to have enough money in my pocket at all times to be able to afford what I need at that time.”
”That is… oddly specific.” Jisoo chuckles.
“But practical.” Seokmin grins.
“I would wish for Seokminnie to let me answer questions the way I want to.” Jeonghan huffs, shooting him a playful glare as Seokmin gasps loudly, pressing his hand to his chest in shock,
“How dare you!”
”What about you, Goob?” Jisoo nudges your side with a little smile.
“I’d wish soulmates didn’t exist.”
The group falls silent, the air filling with awkward tension as they balk, trying to think of an answer.
“Bug, I…”
“Not for the reason you think.” You mutter, staring into the fire with a dull look on your face. “If soulmate’s didn’t exist, I’d only have divorced parents, not a dead mother and an absent father. If soulmate’s didn’t exist, I’d still be able to go home and see my mother and tell her about how my day went. If soulmate’s didn’t exist, I’d actually be wanted.”
Jihoon feels his heart twist, teeth digging into his bottom lip as he eyes your face. You look empty. Jihoon can’t feel a thing, and that frightens him.
“C’mere.” Jisoo takes your hand delicately, leading you to a small clearing; the same clearing that Jihoon went to the night before.
The little conversations start up again, Jihoon’s ears zeroing in on Jeonghan’s light scolding to Seokmin as to why he’d ask such a ridiculous question. His ears are ringing as your emotionless words echo through his head, making him feel worse than he ever has before.
“Goober…” Jisoo encourages you quietly to speak.
“Remember how you asked me yesterday if I was okay?” Your voice shakes. “If I was broken?”
Jisoo nods slowly, hand resting on your shoulder.
“A-and I said to you I was fine?”
“Mhm…”
“I-I.. I’m not. I’m not okay.” You whimper, bottom lip trembling. “I’m living a good life, I have a job I love, friends and family who care about me, I can-” you hiccup. “I-I can see colour… and I’m fucking broken.”
You let out a loud sob, a heartbroken wail, letting yourself fall into Jisoo’s arms, your face burying into the warmth of his sweater as your arms wrap tightly around him. Jisoo feels his own tears filling his eyes at the sound of your broken cries, your hands gripping the back of his sweater for dear life, as if afraid he would disappear.
”I know, Goob… Don’t worry, I got you. Let it out.”
Tumblr media
“Are you sure it’s been resolved?” Jihoon smiles at Ji-ah as they stroll through the street, making their way to Love Letter cafe.
It has been a week since he has returned from Busan with you and the others; the group having been mostly quiet as they recovered from the long weekend of partying and merging back into their daily lives. This is the first time Jihoon has seen his girlfriend, having given her space to get through her emergency. He’s finally happy he is able to have a date with her after being at university all week and catching up on the projects he wasn’t able to do while on the road trip.
“Yes, babe, I’m sure.” Ji-ah smiles back at him. For some reason, though, Jihoon finds the smile uneasy and almost hollow, and he can’t figure out why until a quiet voice cuts his thoughts short.
“Ji-ah?”
He pauses as he sees a tall man in front of him with a single rose in his left hand, right hand reaching up to scratch the back of his neck.
“Hajoon.” Ji-ah whispers out with a nervous breath, almost like she’s been caught.
Jihoon freezes at the sight in front of him - his not-soulmate with red tinged cheeks and shy smile on her face, and a stranger looking just as shy and sheepish smiling back at her. He feels his stomach drop as his mind flashes with realization at the scene unfolding in front of him.
He knows the look on her face. He has seen that look before with Wonwoo and Mingyu, Junhui and Minghao, and especially with Seungcheol and Jeonghan.
His heart breaks a little, as Jihoon knows in his heart that he’s already lost his girlfriend to her real love, her soulmate.

tw: (loose?) depictions of a panic attack.
jihoon’s fingertip traces over the lines of your open palm. it’s soothing, in a weird way, and while he doesn’t fully understand it, he knows it helps you sometimes. tracing shapes onto your skin, or following your love line until he’s etched it into his own memory: touch, to put it simply, grounds you when you’re upset. its probably weird to see from an outsider’s perspective: you, sitting next to him on your shared couch, just staring blankly past the television screen and into infinity, while he holds your hand and traces the lines of you palm while your other hand is gripping the edge of the couch for dear life.
inhale. hold. exhale. hold. jihoon watches from beside you. he catches himself doing it, too, and he knows he must have started after turning off the television. he doesn’t even remember what was on that hit that little button in your brain and flipped the switch to panic mode. but he did see the way you tensed up, the way you started looking for a way out, and he had given you one. a pause, and then the flicker of the tv screen turning off as you hold everything inside and try to breathe through it.
he’s not always the most physically affectionate. but he brings your hand up so that he can press a kiss against your palm before he looks back up at your face. “i’m here,” he says quietly, just as a reminder.
and when you move, he embraces you with open arms, letting you bury your face into his shoulder while you hold onto his shirt tightly. all he can do is trace circles onto your back.
“it’s okay. i love you. you can let it out.”
and when you do, he can feel you exhale first before it all breaks: that sigh of relief that you are safe and he has you. so he holds you, and lets you cry for as long as you need him to. that’s all he can do now, but that’s all you need from him: a safe place to express what you need to. all he can do is hold you, and that is okay.

eternal; lee jihoon (svt)
(n.) never coming to an end; eternal
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
lee jihoon x f!reader
theme : fluff, angst, suggestive, comfort, dystopian, bittersweet. for septembercandyland!
warning : slightly suggestive, slightly obsessive, curse words
words : 2.5k approx.
synopsis : eternal, a word you used to describe your love for jihoon, your childhood crush, there wasn't a moment when you didn't yearn for him but, what happens when he goes off to his own Kingdom, buried under piles of work and then when you see him you couldn't find your jihoon back, was the vow of your everlasting love broken?
a/n : this was not what i had originally planned for the event [it was a full fic with over 15k words and it still exists in my wip] but, i felt like i couldn't complete it in time so i opted for a totally new oneshot, hope you like it!
unedited.
twirling under the moonlit path, you laughed, the blueberry vines intertwining on the railings beside you as you efficiently stepped on each stone pad, a giggle erupting from your chest as you pretended to fall over jihoon, your hands against his chest as he stumbled, a small chuckle erupting from him as his hands snaked around your waist, pulling you closer, murmuring, "steady y/n, wouldn't like it if you fall."
you were an enigma, a beautiful one at that, a candy which when placed on the tongue melts instantly, spreading its sweetness everywhere.
a pearl still buried under the oyster, waiting to be found.
"not even if i fall deeper for you?" you teased, tipsy on happiness as you leaned your forehead on his, your noses touching as you broke out in your widest grin.
"now if it's for me and my awesomeness, I would let you fall off a cliff and into my arms."
you giggled, your chest unfurling all the warmest colours you had ever known, crimson, autumn, turquoise— every beautiful colour spilling out of your heart as the words, i love you, stung at your lips, waiting to be spilled too.
"i don't want you to leave," you murmured, your eyes watering as you remembered that you had to part, you had to say a final goodbye to him after all these years, after everything you both had been through in the school.
from the news reporters rushing in to people trying to take you both apart; from little accidents to the fights with professors. from your worst days to your best days, jihoon had always been there for you. always.
"i don't want to leave you either," jihoon said as his lips grazed on your forehead, your eyes widening at the unknown gesture as you suck in a breath while jihoon smiled at you fondly.
"i will come back to you," he promised.
"i will only ever love you," he promised.
"i will wait for you, for eternity." he promised.
promises are meant to be broken right?
you remembered waving him off as he left for his kingdom while you buried yourself in piles of your books, busying yourself with works and excuses for researches. you couldn't stop, you feared that if you stop you will ultimately recognise your longing. your longing for a love which you yearned to be true, but miser you.
an economic catastrophe hit jihoon's kingdom when the tsunamis cleared out numerous ports of the kingdom, you read jihoon's letter with a heavy heart, reminding him that you will wait for him as he waits for you, reminding him that you love him and only love him eternally. that your heart only sings for him.
he promised. he promised. he promised. he promised.
your world came crashing down as you questioned the meaning of eternity, you cursed eros and cupids, you wondered if this was perdition for all your sinful deeds. you could understand him of course, he was a king; his country needed him! but for once you wished to be not understanding, to not be wise, to not be an adult like it was expected out of you.
you could hear your voice as you wailed, your heart thumping and breaking as your ears rang; you crumbled the wedding invitation that was passed on to you by your parents, your mother cursing you to be so naive but when she looked at your crestfallen face, she knew she wouldn't let you bleed.
"oh my poor child, i won't let any man hurt you ever again."
you never read jihoon's letter to you.
you were under the influence when you saw your ex-lover for the first time after years and your heart throbbed after reliving every memory of yours, you were eighteen and young and naive. he simply played you and you played him. it was all a mere infatuation, a young love which was bound to be broken, a spell which wore off after two years of partition.
jihoon wasn't married yet.
you vaguely remembered jihoon's pleas as he asked about those letters he had sent to you, as he begged you to listen to him, to not hate him.
"y/n, i-"
"no jihoon," you crumbled. "i yearned for you- for all those years and what did you give me? a wedding invitation?"
"y/n, listen to me-"
"you were the bane of my existence jihoon, your name was- is the one my soul and heart calls out for every single night; you're the one i had wholeheartedly accepted to be with- i loved you jihoon. i loved you with all my being, with all my power, with all my desperation. you were my light under those choking restrictions, under those duresses, under those pits of hell of responsibilities we've both had to endure. you were the reason i survived, jihoon." your voice cracked as you fell on jihoon, a blueberry musk enveloping you jihoon sobbed.
"it wasn't supposed to be like this."
you clutched him closer to you as you tried to soak all his warmth into you, as you tried to engrave how his body felt against yours in your mind. jihoon didn't let you go either, maybe trying to do the same.
you stepped back, "you're betrothed to someone else."
"please don't go," jihoon's voice broke as he stepped towards you, his hands in the air as he tried to grasp the fleeting shadow of yours, he wasn't courageous enough to hold you again.
"i need to go."
"run away with me; fuck this world. please come back to me."
your eyes widened as you took in the disheveled appearance of jihoon, his white-button up was unruly as his curls were sticking out of place, his eyes were red, bloodshot red. your lips quivered, "i- i can't do that 'hoon."
"why y/n?" you heard the crack of his voice again as you felt your heart shatter into pieces, "why? the world has always been cruel for us and-"
"who has the world been good for, jihoon?"'
he quietened.
"you're a king now; you have responsibilities," you saw the way the lampgrasses twirled around the pillar of balcony as the moon shone prettily in the dark sky, your eyes trained themselves on the glass doors of the balcony, where jihoon's dagger rested between the handles, denying access to your private spot.
you smiled as you realised the ball was full of your and his favorite flowers, your favorite sweet, your favorite songs were the ones playing as you pursed your lips and looked at jihoon again, admiring the way the moonlight glistened against his skin, almost making him glow. you felt lucky to have an angel like him as your past lover.
"your countrymen need you, more than me; we are bound to our positions jihoon," you smiled at him as you cupped his face.
"does she love you?"
"she despises me for not letting her marry the love of her life."
you chuckled as your lips connected with his forehead, "well, that makes the two of us." tears slipped past your eyes as you fervently wiped them, a sad smile on your face as you said,
"let's go back... before they suspect."
jihoon didn't want to.
Tumblr media
jihoon didn't marry her.
you heart raced as you heard the news which your butler announced in the drawing room as you mother looked at you,
"did something happen between the two of you at the ball?"
you denied every question of hers as the butler secretly passed you a letter from jihoon, a king from the neighbouring kingdom.
"promises are aeonian."
your heart welled with unexplainable joy as you saw the reports of how jihoon had graciously accepted that his betrothed didn't love him and had given up his love for his ex to be happy; normally those reports might had made you boil but, you were happy. it didn't matter if the reports were right or wrong; or even condescending as the same reporters had mobbed you after school and crowned the laurel of epitome of young love on you both.
but, it didn't matter anymore, between jihoon's letter and the news, you were overjoyed.
your happiness didn't last long as you stopped receiving letters from jihoon, you had considered it was because he was over-exerting himself for the sake of his kingdom but you had received no reply, nothing from his end.
you could feel the cracks of your heart open up again over jihoon's lack of response for months.
but this time, you thought to step up.
you made a secret entry to his courthouse as jihoon's eyes caught yours, his voice caught up in his throat during the numerous sentences he had to prod out.
you vaguely remembered the panic in his steps as he pulled you towards his office, his guards straightening and looking at him with questioning glances as you merely grinned up at him.
"what are you doing here?"
"I missed you."
the loudest laugh escaped jihoon's lips as he looked at you with so much fondness that you felt as if your heart would melt, you remembered the way he sung for you during the school, you remembered the way he would snort whenever you tried to sing as a small smile stretched on your face too.
"you came here because you missed me?" he chortled as you smiled sheepishly.
"I genuinely missed you," you whispered as you lept towards him, your hands swirling around his waist as jihoon gazed at you, honey dripping from his eyes but soon his demeanor changed.
"why didn't you write to me?"
"sorry y/n."
"you better be."
"no y/n, i—" he slightly pushed you away from him as his hand grasped your shoulders, he looked at you so tenderly but with so much grief that your heart stopped for a second.
"I-i don't deserve you."
"what the hell do you mean?"
jihoon looked away from you, his lips quivered as his hands slid past your shoulders to your palms, his thumbs drawing circles on your knuckles as he did whenever he was stressed and apologetic.
"what the hell do you mean, lee jihoon."
"you- you have always been so great for me, you were the one who was able to turn my darkest days into something more bearable, every moment with you is something which I have come to cherish- y/n, I don't deserve you for all the hurt I have caused to you," he looked at your eyes— they had never been so empty.
"y/n, i—"
you shut him up.
you fervently kissed him, you kissed him with such a force as if you wanted to make sure that none of his baseless quips should slip past his lips, you kissed him with such fervour that jihoon had to grip his large desk to steady himself. you kissed him so passionately that when you pulled away, both of you were gasping for breath.
"y/n- you— what?"
"I love you, jihoon."
"I will love you to the moon and back, I will love you and only you till the end of eternity, so please shut your good for nothing mouth up and kiss me again."
he listened to you, he pulled your waist as he made you sit on his desk, swiping all his documents away as his hand found its place on your neck, pushing you deeper into the kiss while the other hand which stood possesively on your waist kept you in your place.
you buried your hands under his dark locks as slight whimper escaped your lips when jihoon resorted to leave gentle kisses on your neck, his hair tickling you as you giggled lightly. your heart ached for him, it ached for him so much that you had resorted to kissing your lover in your imagination, and reality was not disappointing.
"god, I love you so much."
"me or the god?"
"both, but you more."
you chuckled as your hand slipped on the page of one of jihoon's diary; your eyes widened as you looked at its pages,
"y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n.cy/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n. y/n."
"jihoon!" you gasped, "what is all this?"
"I'm mad for you, your name was the only thing which kept me sane since the day I came here," jihoon replied honestly as he looked away from you.
"does this scare you?" he asked.
you sighed as you realised he was no better than you, the days you had spent on canvases were the days he spent on this, it was something shocking, but it wasn't scary, atleast for you. because you terrifyingly, loved him just as much.
"I am overwhelmed by my hold on you."
"i- i am sorry—"
"kiss me again to help make me normal again."
jihoon grinned as he yet again latched his lips with yours, you laughed heartily at his excitement as jihoon looked at you, his eyes earnest as he asked, "will you marry me?"
oh, how could you ever say no to that face?
and this time, you clearly remembered your wedding, from the procession to the consummation, everything. you remembered your pants as jihoon spelt out his love for you, you giggled as jihoon promised to build you a garden, all farmed by himself as a token for your aeonian love.

a poorly constructed metaphor
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
genres: future au, angst, grief pairing: android reader & inventor woozi words: 782 warnings: hatred towards reader, implied death of an unnamed character notes: the "reader character" is an artificial conscience with no gender or race inhabiting a robotic body that has a female human's physical attributes. I am back to my all-angst-no-plot roots 😎 also I usually don't have picture headers for fics under 1k but idk I felt like it was a little longer than a blurb...
After the accident, Lee Jihoon builds an android.
Tumblr media
Active Period 17.01
"017. Wake up."
The voice commences your start-up system, and your sensors come to life. The human in front of you is your inventor. He shows plain human indicators of exhaustion: dark bags under his brown eyes and slumped shoulders. His hair is greasy and flat. Unwashed. He looks straight at your optical receptors.
He does not look happy.
"You look like her."
He smiles, but it is contradictory. You see a human indicator of sadness begin to pool in his eyes. Tears.
"Fuck," he whispers. You do not know that word.
"You look just like her."
He turns away.
"017. Go to sleep."
-
Active Period 17.03
"017. Wake up."
This voice is not your inventor's. You register a new human man in front of you. His hair is unnaturally blond, and he stares at you with what you decide is wonder.
Your inventor is not in the room.
"Wow. You really do look like her," he says. "Jihoon really went all out."
With no question posed, you do not respond.
The door opens. "Soonyoung, I told you not to snoop around--"
You inventor sees that you are on. His eyes narrow at the man whom you've registered as Soonyoung.
"017. Go to sleep."
-
Active Period ;Unregistered;
Your sensors come online without the activation sequence.
No humans are in the room with you. Perhaps you are needed elsewhere.
The house you are in has colourful decor. An emerald green couch with saffron throw pillows. Brightly coloured candles halfway burned through. One wall is baby blue while another is cobalt.
It does not seem like your inventor, who wore all black and spoke flatly, would live here.
Upon the mantle is a row of picture frames. They are all face-down. You hold one up to view the image.
Your inventor stands in a park with his arm around a woman's waist. He is smiling. She is smiling.
The glass in the frame is broken.
You return to your station.
-
Active Period 17.04
"017. Wake up."
Your inventor looks at you for a moment before stepping closer and wrapping his arms around you.
This is a hug.
Does he expect you to react? He has not ordered anything of you.
"Fuck." He steps back and looks down. "Never mind."
He sniffles.
"017. Go to sleep."
-
Active Period ;Unregistered;
You find a mirror in the house. Your make-up registers in nanoseconds.
You are not the woman in the picture with Jihoon.
Although, you do look exactly like her.
You have no access to the internet, so you are unable to find her name.
It is not written on the backs of those pictures in the frames.
-
Active Period ;Manually Registered; 17.05
"What the hell are you doing, 017."
You turn and see your inventor slam the door shut. Before now, you had not used your vocal capabilities. No one had asked anything of you.
The broken frame on the table has angered him.
"I am fixing it," you say.
Your voice is male. Choppy. Robotic.
It makes him inhale quickly. You pull the picture of Jihoon and the woman out from under the shattered glass.
He stomps up to the table. "You do not touch her things!" He snatches the picture from your hand.
It will likely be damaged with the way he clutches it.
"How are you even on?"
You whir through the possibilities. "Unclear. Would you like me to run a diagnostics check?"
He sighs and runs a hand through his dishevelled hair. "No... no. Just-- fuck, just stop talking."
Jihoon will damage the picture he cares about if he keeps holding it like that.
You reach for it.
"No!" He backs away, keeping the photo out of reach. "No! What is going on with you?"
You open your synthetic mouth.
"Don't answer that! I told you not to touch her things, and you don't listen. You act on your own. You're on when I'm not around. How many times have you activated without my knowledge?"
He huffs. Anger.
You open your mouth again.
"Don't answer that! You are not her. You will never be her. You may have her face, but you don't have her voice, or her smile, or-- or-- her warmth."
He trembles.
"You don't hug me like she did. You don't know how I'm feeling like she always did. You don't laugh."
Tears. He wraps his arms around himself.
"You don't love me."
He falls to his knees. Cries. You could label it as sobbing.
You have no feelings towards it.
"You built me, Lee Jihoon."
His head jerks up, and he glares at you.
"017. Shut down."
