First try at leather tooling! :) all hand carved (though I tried using a stamp set for the barbed wire)
#for a forst try on such a small project i feel very happy with the outcome :D#now i just gotta get the rest of the supplies to finish it xD#still gotta like#oil it color it seal it burnish the edges...#and i might paint the details#idk yet#oh and glue it and do the stitching o:#definitely learning fast tho!!#i want more stamps....#and i need a better mallet n a tooling slab and also some scrap tooling leather tp put under thin leather like this#so it properly takes the detail#1 key fob started.... maybe another next! or a wallet! idk#my stuff

Today's #ToolingTuesday is LJS 264. It was written in France, ca. 1400, and the binding is 16th-century calf over boards, blind-stamped and -tooled, center armorial medallion of Benoît de Court (3 5-pointed stars on a shield enclosed by a wreath).

A buddy of mine asked me to make him a pair of sheaths for some knives he got at faire this year, and this is the first one! It turned out nice I think, and I matched the style to his leather tunic that's accented with white dragon scales.
#why yes i DID take photos on my washer because it has the best lighting why do you ask?#not perfect by any means#the back got trimmed a little tight so there is a tiny bit of overhang on some rivets#i wasnt perfect with my stamping of the scales#i cut the throat of the leather a little shy of the hilt so the metal peeks a bit#but that isnt a problem because the first half inch ish of the knife isnt sharp#and its a big improvement over the other sheath#no more rattle in a sheath of wood#its now a safe and snug fit#the belt loop which was huge and impractical is now reasonably sized#there was no overhang on the catch so it was hard to undo the snap#now theres a nice finger of leather to grab and pull to undo the catch#and the original catch was up WAY too high on the hilt#so it was very easy to accidentally expose blade on the knife#(the biggest offense because this was actually unsafe)#and the new catch is much closer to the hilt to prevent this#so overall i think the pros outweigh the cons#and i am very happy with the result!#i am excited to make the second one!

I made a leather belt with stamped pattern on it. It might not be super even (the results and depth of the pressing vary), but for the first try of stamping something in repeated way I think it's not bad. At least I managed not to screw the stamping.
The leather might look a little darker than it's going to be, but that's because I have just waxed it and the leather needs to suck it up.
