Jirai is much more of a community and lifestyle than it is a fashion. The fashion and make up are important, but the fashion people know very much comes from girly kei, larme kei, and other street fashion and subcul. The dark past stems from Kabukicho, but that was a bad instance. There are bad people in every community. Magazines like Dear My Love notice this trend and use the term for their fashion.
Jirai is much more than the fashion!! It’s about having a community of people like you, who are devoted to their interests, who struggle, who like cute things, and are different from others !

honestly while style and fashion are two really big things for me, i still have no clue what i really like because i feel self conscious in everything. there's a mix of 'wanting to make an effort' and a mix of 'wanting to be taken seriously' that i can't exactly grasp and it's tricky

Is there another name for girly kei? I've got complex reasons for not wanting to call my clothes "girly" and have been using the magazine name larme kei instead.
Unfortunately not. However, larme kei has been a used name in the past, even if it was just in the west. If you refer to your clothing style as Larme Magazine inspired, it'd be a good way to describe your fashion without calling it by an incorrect name or referring to yourself as wearing girly kei fashion.

Since I’m more and more active here, let’s (re)introduce myself !
My name’s Andrea, I’m 27 and I’m a haberdasher living in France. I’m into Lolita and kawaii fashion for over 13 years now, I think I’ll grow old with this style 💕
Thanks to my job, I’m learning how to sew and knit my own clothes. That’s an ethical and creative choice I’m really proud of !
Here’s the very first dress I’ve sewn this year! The original pattern is quite casual/normy but has menu option to combine. Adding many laces and using a cute fabric I got from the shop I work at, I gave it a kawaii vibe ! I love it so much and I can’t wait to make new dresses again ! 💜
Photographer: my friend @/luna_florem on Instagram !
