tangential snippet from me n partner’s sword & sorcery project…slowburn is worth it but I’m IMPATIENT
Two nights after arriving in Ghela.
“I still don’t know why I did that. It’s been driving me mad,” Valeria admitted, facing away from Krogu while she leaned against the dresser for support. The wine she’d drunk too hastily only softened the edges of her vision now, only numbed the tips of her fingers and warmed her cheeks from their brief foray into the midnight air. But her mind felt clearer than it had in a while — and it emboldened her.
“You were trying to keep a comrade alive,” Krogu suggested with a huff, “Or a bigger target, at least, to keep the ghouls busy. It’s not that complicated.”
“But I risked my life,” she snapped, turning to face him, though she kept her hands braced on top of the dresser behind her. “More than that! I have — there are people who depend on me, Krogu. If there’d been any time to think, I wouldn’t have attempted that magic at all!”
His eyes narrowed. He’d long grown tired of this topic and the way she kept circling it like an fretful buzzard, she could tell.
“So you fight to keep others safe.” He stepped closer, glaring down as though he could spook that obsession out of her. “You saw the odds turn against us and you saw me about to get torn to pieces. It’s not that strange to want to save someone in danger, especially when it’s happening right in front of you — when you know you could stop it.” Something in his gaze softened; he didn’t reach out to console or comfort her, but she could feel it in the way he spoke his next words.
“That’s what good people do.”
Her eyes flicked to his and stayed there as though drawn by magnetism. She felt her throat tighten but spoke through it, fighting every instinct and every voice of caution in her head to do so.
“Everything good and kind in me has long since been buried,” Valeria said softly. “Everything I do, I do for myself. Thus it stands to reason…” She laid her hand against his forearm and traced the lines of his tendons up until the pads of her fingers brushed the ink along his shoulder, following a path her eyes had tread many times. “…That there is something in you I desire.”
He watched her with battle-eyes now, wary and calculating, but he did not pull away. “You’re not making any sense, Valeria. The drink must have done more of a number on you than I thought.”
Valeria tsked in annoyance. “I’m only being myself; and I have always been a selfish creature.” Her fingers smoothed across his throat, up towards his jaw, and her heart raced with every inch of territory she crossed. “I want, and want, and want, until everything lies ruined,” she murmured, tracing his lips and the edges of his tusks with thoughtful consideration.
Then she took his chin between her fingers and pulled him towards her, stopping just short of contact. She felt the heat of her own breath against his skin as she whispered, “Would you ruin me, if I asked?”

Aurora is 50's america's most normalest woman who's definitely not actually a changeling eating people in the woods. She was having a great time amongus-ing the group of monster hunters she joined to stay under the radar until the world's worst man dragged her to the moon with him (which will hopefully be exploding very shortly)

Krogu is an Orc who considered cursed by his clan because his father was considered a coward, and was abandoned by his mother. He dedicated his entire life to proving himself. He is strong, highly skilled, clever and tactical but sometimes his ego gets the better of him. He has a deep heart, and a desire to be loved but his communication skills are almost as bad as his fighting skills are good.

Of course! Thank you for asking!!
Messy Eaters is a story @lammergeared and I are writing that follows three children and how they are shaped by things outside of their control.
The society the children belong to worship a sky dwelling dragon, and fear a snake beneath the world that is destined to devour everything. The youngest, Zevrayak, is a little girl born born to a priests' family with a blessing from the dragon, though she resonates very little with her own spiritual power. Uluun is a little boy abandoned in the woods, his father was a warrior who abandoned his post and his premature birth was blamed on his (deceased) father. Uluun is born with a red (blessed) and blue (cursed) eye, him having the potential for great good or evil. The oldest child's birth was an ill omen - her mother dying in child birth, and her father in a freak accident soon after. Eghter, the girl, has an unnatural hunger she seeks to fill.
It's a two part narrative, focusing on the three as children and then as adults.
It's still in its early stages - here's some concept work done by Baasil!
