I don’t go one day without thinking about this woman and the suffering she endured just to become a sensationalized true crime story for abled people to gawk at. Lacey’s neglect wasn’t manslaughter, it was a purposeful act out of resentment from her parents who were FULLY FINANCIALLY CAPABLE but unwilling to do the bare minimum to protect her. It was a slow and methodically hidden murder that should’ve never been allowed to happen.
This is a frighteningly common occurrence among housebound disabled folks. Lacey could be your neighbor. Her ‘caretakers’ could be your well-adjusted colleagues, your friends, your peers, your teacher. This will never stop until this country starts giving a shit about disabled people instead of cutting funding for every fucking service required for them to survive.
Lacey only committed the crime of ‘being too much work’ for her parents to handle and she was left alone to rot and die because of it. Abled people need to wake the fuck up and realize the kind of suffering they’re enabling before it’s too late.
Check in on your disabled friends and family, help them out with things, don’t make them feel like a burden, be kind and loving and patient and let them know their existence isn’t just an inconvenience to you. Show some humanity for once.

Killing of Lacey Fletcher: She moulded into the sofa.
Lacey Fletcher was autistic and was reportedly bullied in high school. Her parents Sheila and Clay Fletcher later withdrew her from school in favor of homeschooling. Sheila and Clay were known to complain about Lacey, stating that they did not want to be caregivers when they became parents.
When Lacey was 24 years old,a decline in her cognitive health led to her being unable to leave the house. She became confined to the family's leather couch. Instead of seeking medical assistance for Lacey, Sheila and Clay left Lacey on the couch. Sheila and Clay left her on the couch and placed towels next to it, so Lacey's faeces and urine would be easier for them to clean. The rest of their house was well-cleaned, except for the couch, where Lacey remained unable to move from the couch on her own. Over time, Lacey's clothes began to no longer fit her, simply draping off of her body. Clay and Sheila would frequently leave for days on end to go on vacation, leaving her there to starve.
Over time her muscles atrophied, and vermin began to eat at her extremities under the couch leaving mouse droppings and maggots to thrive in the space. There were signs she had been trying to lift herself out of the couch to avoid the pain, but due to severe malnourishment and atrophy in her leg muscles, she was unable to. Her body fused into the leather couch cushions as she was covered in urine and feces, as well as maggots living in her hair and inside her. She suffered starvation and bone infections, leading finally to sepsis which caused her death. She had faeces and couch cushion both under her fingernails and in her stomach contents, showing she had attempted to save herself by eating her surroundings before dying on the couch whilst or shortly after Clay and Sheila vacationed for the holidays. Lacey was found at autopsy to have COVID-19.
On January 3, 2022, Sheila called 911 and stated that she had found Lacey dead on their couch. Emergency services and the coroner arrived at the home and discovered Lacey's dead, partially clothed and malnourished 96-pound (44 kg) body fused into the family's leather couch, with clear signs of neglect. It was determined that Lacey had been dead for one to two days before Sheila had finally decided to call 911. Sheila and Clay lied to police that it had been Lacey's own decision to lie in those conditions for 12 years. Her autopsy ruled her death a homicide. Investigators stated they could not sleep or eat after investigating the killing due to the mental distress that the gruesome nature of the case caused them.
On March 20, 2024, they were sentenced to 20 years in prison, with a consecutive 20-year suspended sentence

Lacey Fletcher: Left to Rot in Couch
Tumblr media
Lacey Ellen Fletcher, 36, suffered from nearly complete paralysis–a condition known as locked-in syndrome. On Jan, 3, 2022, she was found dead on her parents’ couch. Covered in feces and emaciated, her body had reportedly “melted” into the couch.
According to New Orleans metro area outlet NOLA.com, the East Feliciana Parish woman possibly had not been moved from the position in years, 20th Judicial District Attorney Sam D’Aquilla suggested. He said it was completely unknown when she had last been moved.
The DA said the evidence at the Fletcher house suggested the deceased woman had suffered prolong neglect, likely for years, before she died.
Lacey Fletcher’s feet were crossed underneath her on the couch–deep inside the hole that her long-suffering body had worn through both the upholstery and cushion. The hole itself was filled with urine and feces. The victim’s body was covered in ulcers on her underside, D’Aquilla said, and “appeared rotten to the bone.”
Her parents, who are out on bond, are expected to be tried later this year.

Investigating about Lacey Fletcher's death and seeing how there is not even a clear reason why her family let her rot alive for MORE THAN TEN YEARS, covered in her own body fluids without even cleaning her or bringing any kind of comfort makes me loose my faith in humanity.

The Lacey Fletcher Case has me FUMING at the parents.
Why would you neglect your OWN child like that (especially when she couldn't advocate for herself)!?
Seriously, it's disgusting that these "people" would neglect their poor daughter like that! Her parents even had the gall to call themselves "Christians".
I'm furious that people would do that to ANYONE.

I'll see a non-autistic YouTuber I like make a video about a case of violence against an Autistic person, & before clicking on it I'll ask myself if I really have the strength to do that shit & to potentially watch them say some ableism.
Like I know cases like Lacey Ellen Fletcher are things that need to be talked about, but historically, I don't think non-autistic people are the mouths it needs to come from.
Y'all don't know shit about how to talk about us.
You add to the violence & the ableism. You just make it worse.

Match Review: Leeds United U18s 0-6 Manchester United U18s
😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏
Tumblr media
Ethan Wheatley and Jack Fletcher (son of Darren) celebrating a goal from new-signing Jack.
---
It was a very open game in this most famous of Lancashire v Yorkshire rivalries, but United fans will be delighted to see that the Reds came out on top in a storming victory away at Thorp Arch Grange - home to the Leeds training centre.
Promising winger Shea Lacey almost opened the scoring in the 5th minute following a darting run down the left wing, but disappointingly hit his shot straight at the keeper for an easy save.
Two minutes later and Jack Fletcher tried to ping a shot top left corner from the edge of the box, but it was Jayce Fitzgerald who opened the rout with a beautiful curling effort that went top right and past the full-stretched arms of the Leeds keeper, Rory Mahady.
By the time Malachi Sharpe bagged United's 2nd goal, those on the sidelines will have been surprised Manchester United weren't already 4 or 5 goals up, but the setup is worth shouting about. A good switch of play from Fitzgerald, ala Christian Eriksen, out wide right to Shea Lacey. A jink of the foot and the starlet had a yard of space to dash past the Leeds left-back and swing a cross in for Sharpe to lunge and hit home on the volley.
Leeds fought their way back into the game briefly at the end of the first half and were unlucky not to peg one back with a headed effort just skimming over the bar, but that momentum was lost at half time.

Malachi Sharpe running at the Leeds box before scoring his 2nd goal.
---
Jack Fletcher made it 3-0 shortly after the break with a close-range finish, before Sharpe scored his 2nd in the 60th - a brilliant battle and surge into the right hand side of the box, brushing off his marker, and fizzing a shot over the keeper's head at near post into the roof of the net.
To round out the victory Wheatley bagged a scuffed shot in the 68th minute, and Amass scored in the 72nd minute after a long ball that the Leeds defence failed to win in the air fell neatly into his path for a calm finish past keeper Mahady.
A good win for the Reds in a game where their energy, determination, and quality saw Leeds brushed aside in seemingly all the duels across the pitch. Despite the score this wasn't a walkover, but with a bit more maturity and experience of when to pass and when to be greedy... this game could have been double figures to the Devils.

In addition to academics, art, literature, criticism, politics, and philosophy, one of my growing recent fixations is also on civil rights and their relationship to gangs, political corruption, ableism, hate crimes, human atrocities and horror. Not because I am "into it," which is hopefully obvious, but I do think it should be talked about, loudly, and exhaustively, so that torturers can be eradicated from existence.
Have you heard of:
Emmett Till?
Rosemary Kennedy?
Lacey Fletcher?
Mary Jo Kopechne?
Those are just a few examples of the victims of the system we uphold to have the authority of an old testament God.
The USA is in the habit of torturing its disabled victims to death. There are many more people who have surely suffered similar fates under our oppressive system whose names will never be uncovered or uttered again; victims of inhumane, corrupt depravity and elitism who have been wiped from existence by their slaughterers like they never existed at all.
