Since my lovely friend @joomicode just mentioned this song to me and naturally I had to listen to it immediately, let’s talk about Dolls by 9Muses! I’m pretty sure this is their most iconic song especially amongst MINEs, it’s performed A LOT and I guess is generally accepted as one of the best 9Muses songs along with Wild and Glue etc. What I love about Dolls is how... all over the place the song concept is? Like, you have the loud instruments being used but it doesn’t sound obnoxious? It’s somehow chill 😂. And then there’s the mixture of the sweet and sassy vocals, depending on which member is singing and what part they’re singing. Mainly with the first chorus, since Kyungri starts it off in her mature more powerful voice, then Hyemi ends it with her softer and sweeter voice. It makes a really nice contrast when listening to it 😂. Also the RAP omg for the type of song this is, you wouldn’t expect the rap to be so hard and so fast, but it is, and it WORKS. Euaerin and Eunji just absolutely kill it, but don’t take away from the sweetness of the song. It’s just a lot of stuff thrown into one that somehow works perfectly together, which makes this song SO GOOD.

The video itself is also similar to the song! Of course there’s the obvious light/dark split of the members with their costumes colours and styles, but it does fit the song and they don’t look odd during the group shots. I also really like the contrast in the types of shots, sweet ones like when they’re all idk having a sleepover or something, or that blue mirror room where they all sit in, but there’s also the dance sections which are in grey rooms with giant gold studs, and that orange pillar room? They’re such different ideas, but they all fit the concept of the song and how it’s arranged. The video’s a perfect accompaniment to the song. So, yeah, Dolls by 9Muses, absolute legend 😂.
