I've posted about 1/2 of the complete story on AO3 now and I think yall deserve a special shout out your comments and theories are so inspiring and I hope I can post the rest of it soon. I'm up to 90K words now and I PROMISE those of you waiting for angst, it is coming.

But for now, enjoy these two awkward gays trying to flirt with each other

“Lin call me crazy but I think you enjoyed yourself, even if you did slip a bit of work in at the end.”

“Having someone to fight other than my sister helped.” Lin said plainly.

“I see,” Kya said, “so in summary, you like having me around.”

Lin watched her family walk inside, busied by their own chatter and reflections of the evening. Suyin offered pointers and Bataar offered his excitement and encouragement.

When they were inside, she turned back to Kya, who was watching her a little too intently.

The sky had darkened significantly, Lin hadn't noticed before, but the stars were out. The sky wasn't quite black, but rather a stark shade of navy. The moon was almost full, a few more days and the fox-wolves would be audible from inside the dome.

“Maybe I do,” Lin replied. “Would that be so bad?”

Kya seemed surprised, looking from Lin, to the house, to the sky before her eyes landed back on her.

Lin's stomach tumulted in nervousness, or excitement, or both.

You're not exactly subtle.

Suyin was right, she wasn't subtle. She never had been. When she was angry she made it obvious. When she was frustrated she was expressive. She had held a grudge for twenty years because of how un-subtle she was.

“Not at all,” Kya answered, her eyes darting back and forth with nervousness.

There was a knock on the glass, so Lin looked to see her niece waving her over.

“That can't be good,” Lin said, looking back to Kya.

“Always the pessimist.” Kya laughed, brushing past her. Her shoulder nearly made Lin stumble with the impact. Kya's face turned at just the right angle that Lin could see a grin form when she thought Lin couldn't see.

Lin sighed contently before following the others inside.

She watched Kya in front of her, hoping the waterbender wouldn't turn around and catch her smile.

WIP Wednesday

I enjoyed reading @rotschopf-thedrow's WIP this morning. I still haven't branched into all the fandom spaces I wish I could.

Lousy full-time job and "real life." Blah.

That said, I'd be thrilled to check in with @yellowsalt3 @sanrielle @blackberrywars and anyone else who gets the urge!

Unworthy

As soon as the boat had changed course back to the mainland, Lin raised herself up to the secluded spot just inside Aang’s right ankle.

There, sheltered under her father’s cold shadow, Kya was crying.

This was not the childish bawling when Tenzin had blown her favorite kite off into the sea. Not the heartbroken wailing Lin had heard after Kya’s betrothed had left her. Not the devastated sobs that had come after Sokka died. This was somehow more wrenching. Kya was whimpering, clearly restraining herself in an effort to stay hidden.

Lin scuffed her feet against the ground, just to make some noise.

Kya looked up slowly, unsurprised. She sniffled and rubbed her hands against her face. Her frown deepened even further.

“That didn’t take you very long.”

Lin raised an eyebrow. “Should I leave you alone?”

Kya closed her eyes and hugged herself. “No, please don’t.”

Lin moved to sit at Kya’s side, wrapping an arm behind her shoulders. Kya leaned her head against Lin’s long enough for them to remember why they never sat that way. A moment of shuffling, and Kya was laying down with her head in Lin’s lap, facing the ocean.

“My patient died.”

Lin kept her hand against Kya’s arm, firm and steady.

“This is the day Dad died.”

Lin squeezed Kya’s arm, but stayed quiet.

“I couldn’t save either one of them.”

thinking about a modern zelink AU I started writing years ago after botw came out and then deleted because it needed a lot of rework done last time I read it and cringed and I didn’t wanna do it but now I’m feeling that vibe again but this time Zelda has two hands and it’s midzelink and I kinda want to rewrite it but ughhh getting it all from scratch again, maybe changing the pov from Link to Zelda in some chapters, seeing where a new storyline goes…so much work for what return

3. What fandoms do you write for? I've written for a whole lot. Right now I'm rotating between 9-1-1, The Nanny and the School for Good and Evil but you never know when one of my old ones might pop up.

4. What are your top five fics by kudos? A Way to Ignite (SQ), How This Grace Thing Works (Kyalin), In the company of only us (Cartinelli), Broken Shoes and Loose Ends (Kyalin), Let Me Hand You My Love (Hackle)

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? Yes, I try to as much as possible because I'm here for engagement. I share fic because I want to talk to people and I appreciate knowing what works in what I share.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I guess Tell Me You Love Me (come back and haunt me) because it kept a canon death.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Most everything else? I tend toward happy endings.

8. Do you get hate on fic? I have before.

9. Do you write smut? Yep.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? Not really. I sometimes write scenarios I borrow from other stories/situations in other fandoms.

16. What are your writing strengths? Fluff. I think I'm decent at humor too. Dialogue is also pretty strong.

17. What are your writing weaknesses? Description. It is always such a slog for me even though I live for lush description in fiction.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? Not to be attempted without proper research and a native beta if possible.

19. First fandom you wrote for? Scarecrow and Mrs. King but you won't find it anywhere because I was 14 and have no idea what my ff.net password is.

Hey!! Now that you're back, could we a get a reminder of what fandoms/ships you write for? I don't wanna be missing out on anything 😉

I know you do Min/Poppy and other sapphic Minerva ships, but I can't remember if Min/(adult)Hermione is something you do or not . . . also curious if you've seen Star Trek Diacovery and would consider writing for Laira/Michael? It's a super rare pair but I LOOOVE them! And I'm pretty sure you have done some star trek before even though not for that series? Idk my memory is terrible and it's been awhile! So glad you're back!

Hello there!

I would say that my most well known works are related to LoK (Kyalin, Linumi, Korrasami, Bopal, Bumizumi, young linzin, and the list goes on).

I do write most anything sapphic for Minerva, although I always headcannon her as bisexual, so I will also write her with men as well. I don't usually write teacher/student relationships, but it's fanfic and I can always mess with ages. As for other HP, I specifically do not write Marauders Era, but otherwise, I'm not too picky about ships.

I love Star Trek and I'm not usually picky about it. I have dabbled a bit in Disco, but my original love is TNG with Crusher/Picard. I also love Seven & Janeway in various saphhic relationships, including with each other. Although I do ship Chakotay/Janeway, I do not ship Chokatay/Seven.

I dabble a bit in Star Wars, specifically Leia/Amilyn Holdo. But I also love Leia/Han. Stormpilot, too. Honestly, the only thing I don't write for Star Wars is Reylo. Sorry, just can't get my writing muses to go with that one. Rey is always asexual to some degree in my mind.

Currently, I'm obsessing over House of the Dragon/Game of Thrones again. Rhaenys Targareyn in my new muse. I worship the Queen Who Never Was. My next few multi-chaptered WIPs will be in the ASOIAF universe.

I have a masterlist of my works, but just because you don't see a ship or fandom there, doesn't mean I won't give it a try. I'm always up for a challenge.

For thos who are interested but not up to date

I have essentially FINISHED my WIP A United Front.

The last time I posted on here was to let you know I dropped chapter 12, well, I just dropped SIX more chapters and things are really ramping up. Lin has to step up, or risk losing everyone she loves.

So if you are looking for a 100k long COMPLETE Kyalin fic with humor, angst, mystery, and of course, some insane bending, I prompt you to find it on AO3 (not to toot my own horn or anything I'm just very proud)

Anyway, the last EIGHT chapters will be going up THIS WEEKEND.

Dropping a small tidbit below from chapter 15, where things get a little *spicy*

The fell into the motion, and Lin's free hand migrated to Kya's waist.

The arm that gripped its wrist relaxed, and Kya was able to maneuver past it to grip Lin's cheek.

Kya's lips were gentle at first, not daring to tread any further than the precedent.

But then Lin made another not-so-subtle gesture by pulling Kya's hips towards her own.

The waterbender took her permission, and her lips went from defense to offense. Lin used her free hand to grip the counter, stabilizing herself against Kya's advancements.

She couldn't help the growing grin as she kissed the other woman, and as Kya advanced on her.

Kya paused for a moment bringing her other hand to Lin's scarred cheek. Her thumb brushed over them ever so slightly.

Her breath was hot against Lin's nose, and reminiscent of the sweet wine.

Kya was looking at her, like she had been all night. All day. All week.

But it was different, now. Her eyes lacked the quizzical, calculated irises. The passion, the excitement, the thrill was still there.

Their breath was heavy, their chests rising and falling like parabolic waves. Lin could only handle so much of it before she used both arms to grip Kya's neck, pulling the waterbender back down to her.

Her hands ran through Kya's hair, deconstructing any of the remaining structure it had in it.

Kya's fingers slipped into the band of Lin's khakis pulling Lin's waist toward her.

Lin let it happen, succumbing to the force she'd tried so hard to fend off.

Images from her dreams rushed back.

I think I can take care of you.

“It's been a long day,” Lin whispered, pushing her forehead into Kya's.

“Yeah,” Kya agreed, but her eyes were distracted.

The way Kya looked at her… it made her warm. It struck the nerve that had convinced her she was undesirable, unlovable for so long.

She wanted more of it.

She needed more of it.

Lin lifted Kya's chin with a couple fingers, forcing her to make eye contact.

“It's been a long day,” Lin repeated, “And I could really use a shower.”

Ahhhh, thank u for the ask!

C: How did you come up with the title to "Until the dance ends"?

Well, originally I saw a TikTok of two people dancing and one of them not showing up in a mirror, and that kicked off the initial thought process, and since I wanted them to be dancing, it's basically "Until the dance ends, they're happy together". It kinda fits as well with them having limited time (and Vastra making the music last longer because she isn't ready to face it ending) and all, I think!

A: Of the fanfic you’ve written, which is your favorite and why?

Gosh, I love Turn Loose the Mermaids because it's such a sweet AU and I managed to put so many other characters I love in! And mermaid!Vastra sparks so much joy (Hi, Jenny's obsession with mermaids, I see you <3)

A few other favourites would include Butterfly Queen (it's so fucking fluffy and adorable okkkk), Like Leaves Falling (the healing for me because I've put in personal experiences), a kindest heart made me believe the world as I wish it to be (I'm a sucker for hair braiding as a love language and I am a touch-starved bastard), and Your beauty never ever scared me (I do love me a good fairytale AU... There's a reason I have like four published on my AO3).

P: Where did you find the most inspiration for your story "Halloween Wars"?

Well, I had the concept of Strax throwing a party that escalates into fighting lying around since shortly after Halloween 2020, but I never got round to writing it (said WIP would have included Jenny trying to get Vastra to dress up as a mermaid with a wig of long golden locks btw, and Vastra vehemently refusing, and Strax stealing the wig because he thinks he looks awesome with it...)

Apart from that, it was a lot of spontaneous ideas in the moment. I kinda sat down and wrote 9k in a day, so I don't remember that much XD I did go through a list of Doctor Who monsters to find a whole bunch I'd like to include. Fitting them all in was a bit of a struggle at first (also, I noticed a lot of the ones I had show up began with "S".... Sontaran, Silence, Slitheen, Sea Devil, Skithra... Oops), but I think it turned out fairly well!

Y: What are your thoughts on your personal satisfaction with something you’ve written vs. the popularity of your stories? Do you tend to be most satisfied with your most popular stories?

Not at all. It might have to do with my most "popular" fics being in for instance Legend of Korra and The Owl House spaces, which is y'know, slightly annoying when my main business is Paternoster Gang. And from those, I know with archive locking lots of my stuff, I lost guest readers, so many of my older works will show up with more kudos despite imo being nowhere near the quality and depth in characterisation of more recent fics. It's a bit disheartening, honestly, to see the works for some side fandoms be my most popular ones, and it's actually made me stop writing for most of them entirely. Like sure, I do wish my fics were read more, but I am (painfully) aware that the Paternoster fandom consists of like. Maybe three dozen people? Compared to that, LOK with KyaLin has a huge following, and TOH or The Dragon Prince are fairly recent shows and thus receive more attention. But honestly, I treasure each kudo and comment I get, because I know the people who are reading my stuff are loyal readers! I see their names pop up repeatedly and I remember them <3 So, huge thank you to those people who read regularly!

2023 Year-End Fic Round Up

Thanks @rotschopf-thedrow for the tag!

Words written (published or not, WIPs totally count too!): Published has hit 84,800. I have 4 major WIPS with about 18K words among them. Then there’s the short stuff that I haven’t been as focused on this year for some reason.

Smut scenes written (if applicable): 1, but I suspect it’s too boring to bother publishing.

New things I tried: Technically, my collaboration with @slowdissolve started in 2022, but it was late December, and most of the work happened in 2023, so it counts.

Fic I spent the most time on: Red Jade, hands down. This one-shot joke has turned into an amazing experience working with Slowdissolve. It’s now twice the length of my other long stories, and I think we’re at about 60% done.

Fic I spent the least time on: I Just Wanted You. Written at the end of a very bad, terrible, no-good day.

Favourite thing I wrote: Other than Red Jade? Probably First Day Jitters because I was actually happy with what could be a really wrenching idea if I go with it.

Favourite thing I read: Nope. This, I cannot do. There’s the Hands that Heal series. There’s @wishingforatypewriter’s Linzolt stories. There’s @orangepanic Irohsami oeuvre. There’s Slowdissolve’s Discipline of the Mind. And there's so much more - and this is only in the ATLA/LOK fandom.

Writing goals for next year:

Bring Red Jade to a satisfying conclusion.

Accomplish Angstpril.

Start on a new Kyalin project with @slowdissolve.
