Update on the HxH Theories Compilation

I’m still doing the iceberg meme HxH theories and that part about the whole “Kurtas came from the Dark Continent”, “Pariston was disguised as Sheila and was responsible for the Kurta massacre”, “the Phantom Troupe killed the Kurtas for revenge”... They all seem connected together that I feel like I’m going in a bloody rabbit hole. I’m almost done compiling them though, but a lot of it contains external links because it’s going to be one mega long post if I just copied-pasted everything.

They are really complicated but I want to get down to the details of it. Some of the threads are a bit of a stretch while some seem to have concrete evidence.

But it’s okay, I’m actually planning to tie these theories in with my KuraNeon fic. It’s gonna be one wild ride for Kurapika (and Neon) HAHAHAH

Sidenote: A lot of the HxH “analysts” community look down on people who ship pairings and can’t respect people who enjoys shippings, but honestly, I only got into the theories and analyses in HxH because I wanted to write KuraNeon fics well. This is what led me to know more about the Kurta origins, Kurapika and Neon as characters, the Phantom Troupe, Nen etc. When writing, part of it is actually researching. I feel like my left brain analyzes the HxH lore and characters and my right brain does the creative part. A perfect balance.

As much as it is a pet peeve of mine for people to confuse what is their headcanon and canon, I also think people should enjoy the series with how they want it to be. Not everybody wants to analyse and explore theories, some just wants to create fanfics, fanart and ship characters. The only thing that really irritates me is that when people try to shove their headcanons onto people’s throats and/or claim that it’s canon, when it’s not. I’ve seen people try to claim a bunch of things as canon that aren’t confirmed and resort to bullying/threatening tactics. I’ve also seen people deny what is canon and it’s really ridiculous. Anyway, that’s just my thoughts in the whole thing about headcanons and theories and stuff like that.

To conclude: the HxH theories compilation post is about 80% done.

Bunny Casino AU

When @thelegitnumbkid said Neon would look good in Regina George’s bunny suit, we decide to write another Kuraneon headcanons. (Picture above is Neon being proud of her camouflage. You go, girl!)

The format of this headcanon is pretty messy since I’m mostly copy pasting from our chat, so please read (italic) as me and legitnumbkid’s commentaries.

KuraNeon ABC Fluff Headcanons

uThis ABC is taken from this post. I was thinking, hey, what about KuraNeon?

Let’s go!

A ctivities - What do they like to do with their s/o? How do they spend their free time with them?

Neon’s always bored, given that Kurapika is the one who is doing all the work. She’s often delighted to spend time with him, particularly shopping. She likes to shop for clothes, wearing cute outfits and asking him his opinion of it. She’s a tease and we know it. Sometimes she would purposely try on some racy outift for him to ogle at.

For Kurapika, he doesn’t really have a particular favourite activity with her. He’s just happy to spend time with her.

B eauty - What do they admire about their s/o? What do they think is beautiful about them?

At first they weren’t very close. Kurapika only focused on her flesh-collecting hobby that he disagrees with and Neon finds his serious working attitude boring and she didn’t really care about him. Ironically, the traits that each of them has that the other doesn’t is what draws them to each other.

After spending time together, Kurapika finds her eccentric view on her life interesting, even if he does not agree with them. He likes how she’s happy-go-lucky and just lives in the present, uncaring about what the future brings. Which is kinda ironic for someone who can predict the future.

Neon, on the other hand, finds his stern and down-to-business attitude really amusing. She likes how genuinely concerned he gets in doing the job done and she likes it when he teaches her things that she doesn’t know about. She also catches the glimpse of him being playful, it’s so rare and she likes it when he relaxes once in a while. He’s also really sassy when he wants to and she likes bantering with him.

For physical traits, Kurapika is in denial. She’s one of the few girls he interacted with and he finds her really adorable and pretty. He likes how she’s always wearing long sleeves and it all leads to a lot of imagination. Her eyes also drives him crazy because it holds so much naivety that he wants to stain.

Neon finds Kurapika a pretty boy. She likes his soft blond locks and the red earrings that he wears. She thinks it looks good on him. If she knows that he is a Kurta, she loves those pretty eyes (especially when they’re having sex). The first time Neon sees Kurapika in a tuxedo, her gaze will linger because he looks bonafide yummy in it.

C omfort - How would they help their s/o when they feel down/have a panic attack etc.?

I don’t know what panic attack is like so I will not address that.

Kurapika is the type that tries to rationalize things (even though he’s impulsive as shit). So whenever Neon feels down, he will listen to her issues. He will try to understand her situation, analyse it and give her a few suggestions on what she can do. If it’s a problem that cannot be solved practically and she’s being confused/overwhelmed, he will comfort her by saying “it’s okay to feel this way”, he’ll tell her why she’s possibly feeling this way with scientific stuff and whatnot. He’ll find reasons to reassure her that it’s not the end of the world, and that he’ll always be there for her.

For Neon, Kurapika’s issues are deep. Sometimes he won’t even tell it to her. She won’t press him for answers, but she’ll let him hold her. She’ll hug him when he needs comfort. She’ll give him soft kisses on his forehead. She’ll try to distract him from feeling down by getting him to do fun activities like playing chessboard games until he gets better. If he’s working too much, she’ll ensure that he takes breaks by either sleeping, going out with her or you know, the old-fashioned way to de-stress ;)

D reams - How do they picture their future with their s/o?

For Neon, she’s not too concerned of the future. To her, it’s just... like that. She goes with the flow of the events and the growth of her connection with Kurapika just like a river. Whatever happens, happens.

Haha, it reminds me of the lullaby my mom used to sing - Que sera, sera. Whatever will be, will be. The future's not ours to see. Que sera, sera.

For Kurapika, it’s bleak. This guy has always been a bag full of worry - which includes the future of his relationship with Neon. Initially, he did not plan to be in this sort of relation with Neon (his employer’s daughter, I might add). At first, he thought he’d marry her for practical reasons and earning her father’s trust, so that he can gain money in order to buy back some of his clan’s eyes.

His relationship with her becomes something a little more than that. He hates himself for being “distracted” or even indulging in that sort of happiness when he’s supposed to be on a mission. As a Last Kurta, he has some sort of survivor’s guilt. He thinks that if he lives on and forgets about bringing justice to his clan, he is bringing disgrace to them. He thinks he doesn’t deserve to live happily. Especially with a flesh collector. He thinks that it’s his duty as the last survivor to collect their eyes and bring them the justice they deserve.

Yet, he sticks around because this is the only thing that keeps him together and prevents him from sinking while trying to carry out this mission. He knows that one day, eventually, this relationship and his mission will become mutually exclusive, and he has to pick one of them. And that will be his mission.

However, whenever he tries to look into the further future after his mission ends, he sees nothing. After his mission, he doesn’t see anything to live for. This goes back to his wishes and thinking if it’s possible to ever live for something else after this whole mission of his is over - which is to be in a relationship with Neon.

It’s a paradox. His dilemma is indeed confusing and mentally straining.

E qual - Are they the dominant one in the relationship, or rather passive?

Neon is rather passive. She relies on him when it comes for down-to-Earth decisions and she just tags along (she doesn’t care about the boring financial stuff). Ever since Neon lost her ability, he’s the one earning money for them. (He’s kinda like her sugar daddy ahahahha). He loves to be in-charge anyway, given how quickly he got promoted from a mere employee, to a head bodyguard and finally the head of her family.

She does influence him in certain decisions when she suggests it, or demands him what she wants. Depending on how reasonable her request/demands, he will either comply to make her happy or be firm with her by reasoning/compromising with her. Neon will sometimes just pout and agree with it hesitantly, other times she’ll throw a tantrum (and Kurapika has to deal with that, and maybe even “punish” her to discipline her KEKEKEK).

So yes, Kurapika is the dominant one in the relationship because he does a good job in being the role of providing for his partner (and he’s the dom in the bedroom).

F ight - Would they be easy to forgive their s/o? How are they fighting?

OMG. Neon has temper tantrums and impatient; and Kurapika’s worse - he’s stubborn and he has a very bad anger management. It’s like a volcano meeting a thunderstorm.

When they fight, they fight big time. Sometimes it’s about Neon’s unreasonable demands/spoilt attitude, sometimes it’s Kurapika’s secretive behaviour or his neuroticism that leads to an argument.

After the fight, both of them will be grumpy towards each other and Neon will refuse to talk to him, glaring at him. Kurapika will be too hard-headed to talk first. Eventually, both will kinda miss each other’s presence. They will forgive each other once they realise that the fight they had was not worth breaking up the relationship.

G ratitude - How grateful are they in general? Are they aware of what their s/o is doing for them?

They don’t usually express their gratitude explicitly. At first, they kinda just take it for granted and don’t really think too deeply about it. Especially for Neon, she’s the type of girl that likes luxury and she enjoys all the materialistic goods that Kurapika gives her. After a few months where it really gets serious, she thinks about all the things that Kurapika has done for her - protection, financial security and pretty much, everything for her. I have this headcanon where she does those tiny surprises for him on occasions (e.g. his birthdays) just to tell him how much she appreciates what he’s doing for her.

H onesty - Do they have secrets they hide from their s/o? Or do they share everything?

Neon is more open to him whenever he asks. Besides, she can’t really lie or keep secrets from him because he’s sharp.

As for Kurapika, he’s rather secretive and even hid his ethnic identity to her. He doesn’t tell her things and it takes a while for him to open up. This can be a problem because once he admits to Neon, she is rather upset. She doesn’t like how her father lies to her all the time and will be very disappointed in Kurapika when she uncovers his motivations for being hired under her employment initially.

I nspiration - Did their s/o change them somehow, or the other way around? Like trying out new things or helped them overcome personal problems?

I think for both of them, they are both ends of the spectrum. So definitely, along the way, they will influence each other.

Kurapika will teach Neon to be more mindful and caring of those around her. He will try to tell her why sympathising with the dead is as important as caring for the living (because baby girl just likes to make the living happy).

For Kurapika, Neon will get him to at least live in the present and enjoy it, because this boy faces a lot of trauma in his past and constantly worries about the future. Neon will try to get him to relax from time to time, be happy with the ever-present.

J ealousy - Do they get jealous easily? How do they deal with it?

Neon doesn’t really get jealous because Kurapika is very much focused on her. She knows these bitches aren’t even her competition. Even though he attracts attention as he is a pretty boy, he’s very cold towards them, which actually makes a lot of them disinterested.

As for Kurapika... this man is extremely possessive. He didn’t like the fact that Chrollo talked to Neon that one time in the September auction, and he wanted to know every detail of what happened. Neon gets suitors from the mafia community and he makes sure none of them makes contact with her. He’s also paranoid as hell whenever she talks to a guy. Sometimes Neon finds it suffocating (they even fight about it at times), but she appreciates his overprotective nature and sometimes even teases him about it.

K iss - Are they a good kisser? What was the first kiss like?

Their first kiss was rather awkward. Neon and Kurapika are still young. Neon was kinda heavily guarded so she didn’t have the opportunity to date a guy. She doesn’t seem like she’s interested either. The girl just minds her business and doesn’t seem to appreciate ingenuine attention from men. Kurapika is pretty focused on his mission for his clan so I doubt he dated either. So yes, when they first kissed, it was literally their first kiss. It was soft, short and sweet. And hella awkward because both of them weren’t sure what they were doing.

They will get good at kissing as time passes by. They just have to keep practising by kissing each other HAHA.

L ove Confession - How would they confess to their s/o?

HAHA. I actually don’t see this couple saying “I love you” to one another - at least for Kurapika’s part. Neon is like 50-50. They pretty much just grow attached to each other over time and expressed their feelings by a kiss or something.

M arriage - Do they want to get married? How do they propose? What would the marriage be like?

Fam. Let me tell you something real quick. Usually, for other pairings, it’s they become close friends, then date, then get married. This pairing is founded by a marriage theory. HAHAH.

It’s a common KuraNeon headcanon where they have an arranged marriage due to some mafia business. At first it will be like any arranged marriage since it was for practical reasons. They go through the motions, play the role of a traditional husband and wife. Then they get it all mixed up with the emotions and then fall in love. They proceed to become a full-fledge consummated marriage relationship and have kids.

N icknames - What do they call their s/o?

Kurapika isn’t really big on the nicknames. It’s more on how he goes from calling her “Boss”, to “Miss Neon” and eventually just her name as he got more comfortable with her.

For Neon, she calls him Kurapika, most of the time. Only when they are in the bedroom, she calls him Daddy. She even puts his contact name on her phone as that. Kurapika was repulsed by it at first, but she was often a playful sub whenever she calls him that. It makes him feel powerful. HAHAHA. Kinky.

O n Cloud Nine - What are they like when they are in love? Is it obvious for others? How do they express their feelings?

Both of them can’t really define what love is, or understand what they’re feeling when it first hit them. It’s obvious for everyone - Linssen and the rest of Kurapika’s underlings. They know that their boss is in love with his wife and is sincere about their marriage. Neon just feels happier with his company and she did question it at one point, but decides that it’s for the best to continue and go with the flow. For Kurapika, when he realised that he’s suddenly happier, he’s scared. He’s not sure if he should be feeling happiness at all. He’s always afraid that the fiery wrath within him would die out. He wanted to remove that feeling. A man like him shouldn’t spare any time for love. But he stays anyway because it benefits him.

Neon’s love language is gifts and spending time with someone. She sees gift-giving as something where someone spends the money (which is earned by the hours they spent working) as precious and flattering for her. She dislikes it when the gift is ingenuine. Kurapika knows this and gives her all sorts of things to impress her. Neon also gives back gifts whenever she can. When she shops, she started to shop not only for herself, but enjoys thinking about what she can buy for Kurapika. Kurapika is a busy man, so Neon is often excited whenever he takes off-days to do fun activities with her.

For Kurapika, he’s more of an action guy than words. Aside from giving gifts for her, he shows his affections by doing what he thinks it’s best for both of them. This means protecting her from any harm and making sure they’re financially stable.

Both of them also like to be physically intimate with one another to show their affections.

P DA - Are they upfront about their relationship? Do they brag with their s/o in front of others? Or are they rather shy to kiss etc. when others are watching?

Kurapika is not very open about their relationship in public. Dude is too shy to do PDA. He thinks it’s none of anyone’s business when it comes to his relationship. Neon on the other hand, don’t really care what people think. She will hold his arm whenever they go out, and Kurapika will just let her. He blushes a little whenever she does peck kisses on him in public or in front of their employees. Linssen and the rest will just snigger and tease their Bosses, leaving Kurapika irritated.

Q uirk - Some random ability they have that’s beneficial in a relationship.

Kurapika’s chains. Uhm, joke lmao. He can’t wrap her around his chains even if he wants to. They like to do bondage but they have to use clothes or some other type.

R omance - How romantic are they? What would they do to make their s/o happy? Cliché or rather creative?

I’d say they are rather an unconventional couple, but their activities are that of a cliche couple. Kurapika is romantic in a sense that he takes her out to dinner, give her gifts and pretty much goes out with her to make her happy. Neon, of course, the ever-so indulgent brat that she is, likes to be pampered. They are okay with a routine-type of relationship, although once in a while, Neon adds in a surprise to make it interesting.

S upport - Are they helping their s/o achieve their goals? Do they believe in them?

Neon doesn’t really have a goal. She’s more onto goods and her desires are often short-lived. Kurapika tries his best to support her in what she wants, given that they are reasonable.

For Kurapika, his goal will always be vengeance and collecting the eyes of his brethren. His marriage to Neon supports that, even if she is unaware of it. Being the head of her family helps him get the power, influence and money to negotiate (and buy) his clan’s eyes.

If Neon does find out about his goals, I think she’ll feel disoriented. She may have an inkling that he is marrying due to some motivations that are hidden; but she was unaware it was this drastic. She will be upset that he wasn’t fully honest, and may have mixed feelings collecting his clan’s eyes. She doesn’t care for dead people, but she does care about living humans and it’s important to Kurapika, who is alive. After a while, she will calm down. I don’t see her actively supporting him, maybe trying to use connections and her ways as a flesh collector to help him find the Scarlet Eye sets. As for the Spiders part, I think she’ll be more of a foil to that so I think she’ll just let him do whatever he’s supposed to do.

As for believing in him, Neon knows that he’s intelligent and he’s one of the bodyguards that are still alive. She had her fair share of bodyguards who just drop dead like flies, so she assumes Kurapika must be strong enough to still be alive and kicking. She is also aware that he has his ways of influencing people, given that her father believes in him. Therefore, she believes in him too. She also acknowledges that Kurapika saved their asses from being broke, when her father was freaking out. So definitely, she knows that he is very capable of running their organisation.

T hrill - Do they need to try out new things to spice out your relationship? Or do they prefer a certain routine?

I think I already answered this in the “R” for “Romance”.

But if I may add an NSFW...

Well, certainly they do have their own fixed of kinks ahhaha. They start out as being kinda vanilla and just make out, then have some good ol’ missionary sex. And then, Neon, being a mischievous girl that she is, seeks out to try new things. She starts out by calling him “Daddy” and being very bratty/teasing... just to let out his inner dom in the bedroom. She also prompts him to do bondage on her because well, the chains he wears gives them ideas HAHA. Neon will just act like the total brat that needs to be subdued and disciplined; and Kurapika will follow. He likes to be in control; and he finds all sorts of ways to tame his bratty wife sexually. Kurapika is deep down kinky but he doesn’t admit it; and Neon nudges him towards that direction and everything just flows.

U nderstanding - How good do they know their partner? Are they empathetic?

Okay. So... this is one of the main issues with their relationship. But this is what, I believe, makes it so interesting yet difficult to write a slowburn canon-compliant fiction of them.

Neon doesn’t understand him well because she mostly minds her business and is more self-centred. And the way she empathise with people is different from how Kurapika expects her to be. Canonically, they are the polar opposite. Neon (and Light Nostrade) acted as a foil in the YorkNew City. Neon values the life of the living, breathing people; and not giving two cents about the people that had died. Kurapika, on the other hand, mourns for his dead clan.

At first, Kurapika wanted to change the way she thinks - which is, of course, it kinda fails. Her hobby is in direct conflict of his beliefs.

While canonically, he straightaway knew her situation (that conversation he had with Basho explaining that it was the father that is using the daughter, not the other way round), it was not indicated if he sympathises with her. He was just very task-focused to impress Light Nostrade and gain his trust, which is to protect his daughter.

It definitely took a while for him to know her aside from being a “flesh collector” and the “bratty girl”. Maybe he got to know her more as a person, who is not so far from his age.

As for Neon, I imagine her whining about Kurapika’s strict behaviour as a bodyguard, and finding him a bit boring to converse with due to his serious attitude while working.

This couple really needs a LOT of patience with one another and time for them to bond.

V alue - How important is the relationship to them? What is it’s worth in comparison to other things in their life?

I think I had already addressed this in the “D - Dreams” section.

W ild Card - A random Fluff Headcanon.

Neon and Kurapika initially never considered having kids, until Kurapika knocked her up and they have their first son. They named their first son Pairo. They have like, 3 to 5 subsequent kids, depending on how many kids you want them to go for. No matter how many girls and boys they have, all of them have Scarlet Eyes.

X OXO - Are they very affectionate? Do they love to kiss and cuddle?

Oh yes. They do enjoy kissing and cuddling. And sex. But yeah, they don’t usually do PDA because Kurapika is rather shy about that. But behind closed doors? They’re doing more than kisses and cuddling - if you know what I mean.

Y earning - How will they cope when they’re missing their partner?

They will be upset. They will try to get themselves busy. For Neon, she will shop and play card games with her fellow attendants to get her mind off of him. She will wonder how he’s been, send him text messages and nudes while at work and complain about how much of a workaholic this guy is.

For Kurapika, usually he’s the one away for either a business trip or on his way across the world to obtain another set of the Scarlet Eyes. He will think about her, it irritates him because missing her distracts him from the task at hand and he can’t help it. He’ll call her at some points of the day to just hear her voice and ask her well-being, to check whether everything in the mansion is fine or not.

Z eal - Are they willing to go to great lengths for the relationship? If so, what kind of?

Kurapika is persuasive in getting what he wants. That includes doing all sorts of tricks and nefarious ways to protect their relationship. As for Neon, if someone is blocking them, she will try to eliminate it by making demands and throw tantrums.

However, they won’t admit it. They will find some excuse to jusify their behaviour, which often fails.

Fanfic Writer Q&A

Nobody asked but this is fun.

My Answers:

1. Do you listen to music when you write? if yes, what kind? If no, why not?

Yes. I listen a lot to music when writing to get the feel of emotions that I wanna write. For the music, it depends on the scene that I’m writing. I have specific Spotify lists to describe each mood that I want to feel.

2. Do you have a trusted beta reader or are you more of the “No Beta We Die Like Men” type?

Beta reader meaning someone who proofreads for me? I’m my own beta reader. And a bit of grammarly. Sometimes I do show my WIP to someone, but I prefer to keep it as a secret until I publish it.

3. First person or third person?

In fanfics, I think third person is better. People like reading fanfics to see characters they already know. They are used to watching/reading the characters from a 3rd perspective, so definitely I write in 3rd POV. I wrote a Hisomachi fic once in a 1st POV, and I REGRETTED it. I don’t know why I started to write in 1st POV, it was sort of an accident. Never gonna happen again.

Sometimes I do type in italics to type the thoughts of the characters. I think it works, I have been doing that for years.

4. Past tense or present tense?

Past tense. I don’t know why. I have been trained to write in past tense in fiction and present tense in a non-fiction (unless it has already happened then past tense).

5. How long do your fics tend to be? Short and sweet? Or novel length?

I actually am known more for writing novel-length fanfics that are heavily canon-compliant. I think that gives a lot of satisfaction to that particular shipping community. However, it is indeed very time consuming and a lot of passion has to be in it. I need to continue loving that pairing because the novel-length fic will be a WIP for about 1 to 3 years. Sometimes I end up dropping them because I feel very burnout or the passion fizzled out. I realised that writing short and sweet fics of that pairing at the side will help with the passion (but the fics must be a fun short one).

6. Multi-chapter or one-shots?

I already answered this.

7. Rarepairs? Yay or nay?

Definitely a big yay.

I have been in a fandom where a lot of people ship a pairing (CoAi from Detective Conan) and was able to contribute a lot for that pairing. I have been in a small fandom with not a lot of people, yet many people ship that pairing (Hiei/Botan from Yu Yu Hakusho). I received a lot of appreciation from the small handful of shippers.

Now, I am in HxH fandom. Big fandom. But I love a particular ship that is not well-liked, and even if people liked it, not many people are willing to contribute to it. However, I love this series to death and I have been silent about this pairing for years. I no longer care about whether I will be accepted in the fandom because of what ship I like, or care about the followers or whatever. I know having to ship Kuraneon will most likely not get me a lot of friends/mutuals, but I will definitely have people who genuinely like me and my content because I am genuine with what pairing I like, even if they are a rarepair. Having to write for rarepairs may not get as much attention, but if it can give so much happiness to a rareshipper because that little content means a lot to them, that’s enough for me.

8. In character or out character?

Definitely in character.

It was difficult writing HxH character because most of them are multi-layered, even if they have minimal screen time. Especially for this fandom where people usually mix the popular headcanons with canon, it is very easy to sway into that popularity. It’s very hard to determine what is in character and what is not, but I think observing the manga/anime material, doing your research on the character, getting different perspectives on the characters from other people will definitely help.

I used to think Kurapika was just this mild, gentle and feminine character, but that is not all true (lol at that Mamapika bs). There is a lot of angst, aggression and survivor’s guilt burning inside of him. He is like Kurama - a rose. A rose that looks pretty but has deadly thorns. I think Kurapika is a type of guy that gets underestimated easily because he seems stoic and mild, but he is also a dangerous man when rattled. He is in the mafia for a reason. I think writing him with a lot of angst and regret is really difficult because I believe he hides what he often feels, but being a reserved person, it has become easy for me to write him. There is a duality inside of him that is hard to grasp when writing him I think.

Neon is more difficult to write for me since our personality is different. However, there is greater appreciation when I begin to dig deep on how she is. Most people just see her as a spoilt brat then fail to see what she says during that scene with Chrollo. I think she’s harder to write when it comes to bringing out that broken-ness and emotional apathy that comes along with being used by her dad and the flesh collecting hobby, yet being cheerful and childish like a giggly teenage girl. I have gotten used to writing her as time passes, though I do enjoy writing from Kurapika’s POV more.

9. Favorite trope? What’s a cliche that you love?

Hmm... I don’t think I really have a trope or a cliche that I love. Usually when I like pairings, it’s because of a dynamic they can potentially bring.

I do realise I like a bit of conflict and when the guy is in denial of his feelings. I also like it when the personalities differ from one another yet they gel well with each other.

For Kuraneon, I did kinda liked the mafia genre already so Kuraneon is so so convenient to write for mafia setting because they already are in the mafia. They remind me of those old classic mafia Hollywood movies. It’s quite a pain to do research on the mafia because one thing I dislike on HxH reddit was whenever they talked about how the mafia works. They think it’s more on the fights or aggression when really, mafia is an organized crime. Their main goal is 1) not get caught, 2) make profits. They are essentially like a business, but illegal. I had to do a lot of research on what Kurapika does in the mafia because actually, his businesses may be legal and he pays taxes, but in the mafia they use that as a front for money laundering. There are many ways that the mafia infiltrates a business and one very prominent one was casinos, and the mafia essentially owned Las Vegas back then. (Fun fact: The hxh equivalent of Las Vegas is Glam Gas Land, which was created by the HxH doujin made by Ishida Sui, the writer of Tokyo Ghoul). It is significant that Kurapika does gambling in this case and it’s definitely fun for me to bring mafia dynamics in the fanfics whenever I can.

10. Do you read/write omegaverse?

I actually just found out about it last year. I read an omegaverse on Kuraneon and I was very confused, so I looked it up. I think it’s an interesting concept but I probably will not write about it.

11. OTPs?

Definitely Kurapika/Neon. Another HxH ship that I really like is Tserriednich/Theta.

Outside of HxH, there’s a couple of ships that I like, such as Hiei/Botan, Eremika and Conan/Haibara.

Before I started doing Kuraneon fics, my main fic that I had worked with was Conan/Haibara. I loved that ship, it was my childhood OTP. Their onscreen chemistry makes me insane. It’s definitely unfortunate that these two aren’t canon because their story and dynamic makes so much sense!

12. NOTP(s)?

To be honest, most of the NOTPs I have is when too many shippers of that particular pairing shit on Kuraneon or when they are so annoying. Only then that pairing becomes repulsive as hell to me.

There is only one NOTP that I dislike due to the execution in the canon material (meaning that it was underdeveloped) despite it being a canon couple, and that was from Detective Conan. However, again, I do not care what people ship to be honest. I only judge people by their attitude and actions.

13. Fluff or Smut? Or both?

I like to write both, but I am more likely to read smut than fluff. Most of the time I write smut. I like to write about sexual desire in relationships. Desire is just a good theme to explore for me. I studied this book called “A Streetcar Named Desire” and was awed by how they did the whole “desire leads to demise”. I liked exploring sexual desire and lust in relationships. I can’t explain why, there’s something hot and primal about it.

I guess that’s why I love writing Kurapika/Neon so much. I love the idea of Kurapika denying his sexual desires for Neon because she’s a flesh collector. He’s ironically objectifying her while criticising her for objectifying his clan! And the idea of hate-sex... OOof. I like that. Writing Kurapika having a moral crisis is so fun to write.

14. Does angst makes you excited? Or does it make you run into a hole and cry?

I love writing angst. Expressing all the sadness away. But I don't like to read it.

15. How do you come up with fic ideas?

Just random, really. I can look at something and be like "omg yes fic idea!!"

16. Are you a planner or do you write by the seat of your pants?

Well, I plan a little and have an skeleton of a fic. However, most of the time it’s pretty much write on the go. It’s a mixture really, but I’m not much of a planner.

“I’m like a dog chasing a car. I wouldn’t know what to do if I caught it! I just... do things.”

17. Do you title your chapters?

I used to. But now I avoid it because it’s extra work.

18. Overused words or phrases that make your eye twitch?

I don’t have a particular word/phrase that I hate, but I realised that there are certain words that are overused in fanfics that I am trying to avoid.

19. What’s something you struggle as a writer?

Honestly, time and energy. I don’t have time most on my side, and writing takes a toll on me. If only I had enough time in the world, I’d be fine.

Another I struggle is to start on my own original fic. I would love to write something amazing, but I’m always procrastinating.

20. Any writing advice?

Not much. Do your research and put your passion if you really want to do a good job, I guess. Also, never be afraid of writing what you want to write (I’m only speaking in terms of fiction).

My HxH ships

Disclaimer: These are my thoughts on my ships to share with my Tumblr friends. If you’re some stranger who disagrees with it and it evokes negative emotions on you, kindly exit. I know the internet has a bunch of trolls/idiots that has a habit of harassing people because the ship is “wrong” or it doesn’t suit them. Well, honestly, I don’t really care if you agree with them because I don’t know you personally? And this is fictional so it’s not something to be taken personally or even seriously. Don’t confuse my personal values with what I like with the ships.

I can’t believe I even need to make a disclaimer on this because a bunch of people don’t know how to be civilized once they are anonymous on a social media platform. I will just block lol; BYEEE.

HxH I love:

Defintion - Actively ships them, willing to make fanfics of them if possible

1. Kurapika x Neon

This ship is so underrated it hurts. They may not be similar in terms of personality and views of the dead: Neon focuses more on the living and the present (that’s why she doesn’t have sympathy for the dead and tells Chrollo her fortunes are for the living), while Kurapika focuses on the past and mourns for the dead (his mourning for his clan). But I think both of them are very similar in terms of loneliness. Neon doesn’t have friends and lacks affections from her father; Kurapika is lonely because all of his clan members are dead.

I know the common barrier is Neon’s hobby for flesh collecting, but I think this difference is what makes it more complicated and interesting for me. Especially when Kurapika has been in many seasons under the Nostrade Family... it makes me wonder what kind of interactions they had since it was all Killua and Gon on-screen.

2. Hisoka x Machi

I actually had always liked Hisoka with Machi together. Hisoka seems to really like her and enjoys her company. Machi may seem irritated by him but I think she’s more of a tsundere? She still decides to patch him after the fight against Chrollo, and their relationship got a bit more complicated after the Hisoka vs Chrollo fight.

3. Tserreidnich x Theta

Okay, I LOVE this ship. This is right out love-hate kind of relationship. It lowkey reminds me of Clarice/Hannibal and I find this ship so fascinating? I don’t see a lot of fanfics of them unfortunately. So Legacy by Alltagsabenteuer is a blessing from heaven because it’s the only TsexTheta tag in AO3.

So far I haven’t found anyone else who loves this ship, so please identify yourself if you do.

I’m starting to think I like those complicated love-hate dynamics....

HxH ships I like:

Definition of like - Actively ships them, may make fanfics of them or not. But doesn’t think of them 24/7.

1. Pokkle x Ponzu

This was like, a ship that never really sailed because Togashi decided to kill them both. I think this ship had potential and I’m hoping they find happiness in the afterlife.

2. Chrollo x Neon

I actually really liked how they vibe together during this one scene (although Chrollo targetted to meet her for her fortune-telling abilities). I am a KuraNeon shipper but I like the idea of Chrollo being a 3rd party because I think it fits so well? Chrollo and Kurapika are enemies and I had always found it fascinating how both of them got entangled with the same woman. Also, people be like “Neon is 16″ uhhh... Hunterpedia states she’s born in 1982, along with Kurapika and Milluki. She’s the same age as Kurapika and Milluki; and Kurapika is widely accepted as 19 now; and it does tally if you see the Hunter x Hunter timeline (although there has been several discrepancies and dubious canonity when it comes to the Official Hunter x Hunter database and the HxH manga timeline). I’m not sure why people falsely remember Neon as a year younger than Kurapika and use it as a common argument to not support Chrollo/Neon when people have no problems (except for some) when it comes to shipping Kurapika with Chrollo.

So... Chrollo be that Mr. Steal Yo Girl and Kurapika’s posessive reaction to it will be astronomical.

HxH ships I support:

Definition of support: Does not actively ship them, but definitely likes the idea of them

1. Killua x Canary

I love how Canary tries her best for Killua and she does care about him. I realised that Killua seems to have an issue with older women (e.g. Bisky, Elevator girl), but I think for girls who are about his age, he’s okay with them. There is a misconception that he can’t communicate with women well (probably because he has issues with his mother), but I think that’s just for old ladies - Canary is cool with him.

2. Hisoka x Illumi

It drives me nuts how these two have matching outfits. I know that they have a more of a give-and-take transactional relationships rather than purely friends, but this is fab best friendship goals. My friend loves this ship and I absolutely support it.

3. Retz (with either Gon or Killua)

The unreasonable hate on Retz is insane because “she’s ruining KilluGon”. I think it’s really refreshing to see Killua and Gon hang out with another girl their age. You can see that Gon is really sweet towards her. Killua is more suspicious of her for a good reason but he never hated her. Remember that Killua is not used to interacting with people due to his family background. In fact, as @u-named mentioned, Killua and Retz shares similarities in terms of wanting to be free from their family.

4. Alluka x Gon

I would love to see a fanfic where Gon starts to woo Alluka and Killua will be that overprotective brother, knowing that his best friend is a player. Alluka/Nanika healed Gon anyway, so she’s technically his saving angel.

5. Ging x Gon’s unnamed mom

Okay, this is a bit weird cause we don’t know who Gon’s mom is... (and screw that Pregnancy Stone theory, I just think it’s weird how Ging mentioned Gon’s mom in the tape if he never had a mom lmao; is he gonna say “which you don’t have” like ???).

I actually like fanfics that explores Ging’s life before Gon and various interpretations of who Gon’s mom is.

What Lies Beyond by Thatsoneperson is one of the best fanfics I’ve read when it comes to Ging’s life before Gon. The ending was really heartbreaking and I had always loved the “Gon’s mom was from the DC” theory because Yusuke’s ancestral father came from the Demon World and there were hints of Gon’s dark aura throughout CA and Election arc.

Somehow in my headcanon, I had always envisioned Gon’s mom to resemble Usagi from Sailor Moon but with Gon’s hair colour. Gon also has certain personality traits that are very different from Ging and I believe that came from his mother.

6. Meruem x Komugi

One of the most unexpected, beautiful, saddest, semi-canon pairings in the entire series. It highkey reminds me of Beauty and the Beast. It was beautiful how Meruem, a Chimera Ant that was supposed to be destined to rule the world above humans, became gradually attached to a blind human girl.

7. Killua x Machi

This is fucking weird; because of the age gap but I like to think Killua meets her again one day when he grows up, and they had some sort of flirtation because he needs to be on par with Gon when it comes to dating women.

There was actually a cute fic about that called A Series of Pick Up Lines by Yandere Shoujo where Killua was trying to use pick up lines on a woman because he wanted to try it out after knowing that Gon dated women prior and just so happens to bump into Machi.

The Four Interpretations of the KuraNeon ship:

SOkay so there’s A LOT of interpretations of Kurapika/Neon that we shippers have explored. I think I broke it down to a few of such interpretations.

Here we go:

1. The Vanilla Interpretation

This is usually the most innocent form of Kurapika/Neon, where Kurapika is very gentle towards her and Neon is friendly towards him. Even if she’s a bit of a brat, Kurapika is patient towards her.

Kurapika dislikes Neon’s attitude and her hobby. He hates the fact that she still has an effect on him. He lowkey is attracted to her, but denies it because of her hobby. He’s always wondering why she’s so emotionally detached. She might also dislike his stern-ness and think that he’s boring and controlling. They can’t resist their desires and eventually falls in love.

The most extreme (and hottest) form of Kurapika/Neon Interpretation. It’s when both of them can’t stand each other but they fuck anyway. He objectifies her because he feels that she should be punished for objectifying his clan into mere objects. She lets him touch her because she wants to feel useful and alive again, since everything went wrong for after she lost the Lovely Ghostwriter. She’s obsessed with the way his eyes glow red because she finds them beautiful. He’s angry at her for making him feel desire towards her; she blames him for her father’s newfound favouritism in him. Lots of sinful attraction, possibly narcotics, alcohol and cigarettes in the mix.

“She’s a flesh collector” conflict: High

Enmity: High

R-ratedness: MEGA YES.

They are a thing in the mobile games.

Also: Kurapika is the head of the Nostrade Family in the current manga arc. What are the chances of him possibly marrying into her family... Hmm...
