Turtleneck cowl capes are my favorite any season, they warm your neck and shoulders and add a stylish finishing touch to any outfit. This lovely Uma cape is worked seamlessly in round on circular needles with aran weight yarn. It has a lot of stretch to be worn over a light shirt or even on top of a jacket. The moss stitch adds an interesting texture, and the generous ribbed turtleneck turns it into a luxurious neck warmer. This month was a wonderful month. I spent time in Barcelona and London, and I am spending extra time with this yarn since I failed to accurately count my rows. Ripped back about 80 rows. Short ones, but still. The little piece of spruce apparently came home with me from dinner at @singleshotseattle; the scent wafted over us as we ate a fab dinner. The print is a fan I bought (along with two others) in Barcelona, recognizing that my hot flashes are persisting. Lessons learned: Not all stitch patterns work for a circular yoke. After several tries, thinking long and hard and doing the math over and over again, I have learned that this stitch pattern is not suited for a circular yoke. Let me try to explain why... The first version I knit - pictured in the post from a few days ago - was way to small because I increased too little around the neck. The second version - pictured above - fits perfectly around the neck, but is 5 to 6 repeats too wide around the shoulder to bust area. In order to maintain the zigzag pattern, it is necessary to place a certain amount of increases in very specific places of the stitch pattern. But for the yoke to fit, I would need to place the increases differently. The zigzag pattern has too few increases around the neckband and too many increases in the last rows of the stitch pattern. 🤷‍♀️ So, what to do now? I am not ready to give up on this design idea, yet. As soon as I find the time, I will sit down and try to rearrange the stitch pattern - hopefully to look similar to what you see above but allowing for a better positioning of the increases. 🤞 I will keep you updated.
