Love by Chance (2018)

The show that started it all (づ ᴗ _ᴗ)づ♡ Yep, my first Bl therefore I just must include it. Is is a good show? - not really. BUT! AePete are my babies, I love them. Nobody does it like them ٩(ˊᗜˋ*)و ♡

2. My Only 12% (2022)

Childhood friends to lovers done right! My favorite show of the last year. It is a slooooow burn but it's so worth it! Very lively and real boys. great family and friend dynamics, kind of meh last story outside of CakeEwi but still…If you want some great friendship slowly blooming into romance this is the show

3. Kieta Hatsukoi (2021)

Super cute show. All characters are amazing, story well written, minimum hurt all the comfort. Good girl-not an enemy (im really easy too please ( •̯́ ₃ •̯̀) xd)

4. 30-sai made Dotei Da to Mahotsukai ni Nareru rashii (2020)aka Cherry magic

JapBL are totally for me when they do fluff, (cause their angst is on a such level I need a lifetime to process it xd)

but this one is so fluffy (ฅ́ ˘ฅ̀)♡ They make me happy and I grateful for it

5. My Ride (2022)

Speaking of fluff °ʚ(´꒳`)ɞ° Other couples are kind of boring But! Mork's uncles, MorkTawan's adopted son (still a bit salty we didnt see him again, Tawan should've had more parenting time, he is clearly a great dad ଘ(੭◌ˊᵕˋ)੭* ੈ♡‧₊˚) natural growth of their friendship into love *_*. This one is good!

6.Color Rush (2020)

I love soulmates. Its short, simple story but with very interesting and original idea.

7. Hello Stranger (2020)

Such a simple story but the way it was done is amazing! Falling in love through web camera (੭ ˊ^ˋ)੭ ♡ Characters have such an incredible chemistry even tho they have minimum personal contact(kudos to actors they done well)))

I Will Knock You (2022)

Okay, yes age gap not for everyone. But again it was done very respectful. ૮₍ ´ ꒳ `₎ა I love love love Noey's ˖°.✧aesthetic✧˖°., his room is my fave ngl, i want everything he has))))I love this delusional king He was so sure Thi is into him from the second they met and i live for it.

9. Until We Meet Again (2019)

I love soulmates 2. I just love this show. Its gonna traumatize you and then comforts you with cutest fluffiest boys that going through it

10. Vice Versa (2022)

I didn't like it at first

Puen annoyed me too much ૮꒰˶> ༝ <˶ ꒱ა but then I binge rewatch it in one weekend and I just fall for it. Its so good))) I love soulmates 3 and it's super pretty. I love colors

11. About Youth (2022)

Show where I love main and second couple the same ପ(๑•ᴗ•๑)ଓ ♡ thats rare))) Again very simple story but told beautifly

12. HIStory2 Right or Wrong (2018)

Let's talk HIStory. They kind of getting worse imho. 4 and 5 were just fine. thats sucks ʚ₍ᐢ ›̥̥̥ ༝ ‹̥̥̥ ᐢ₎ɞ i still love them tho

Second chance romance done very very right!

16. Oxygen (2020)

Good fluffy fluff. P'Phu and his bunny are so precious. Main are cute and sweet and adorable. Ignore weird girl and doctor everything else is just so lovely

17. Light on Me (2021)

Love triangle done right. Good light fluffy show that did hurt so good (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵)

18. To My Star Season 2: Our Untold Stories (2022)

I love how they told this story

19. Not Me (2021)

its hard to explain how good this show is, its more serious than usual bls, great acting, amazing story, strong message told through not just cinematography but art and dance too. its truly great show

idk what series you have seen so i'm going to include some popular ones and then delve into the obscure <3 btw its been awhile since ive seen some of these and my memory is bad. so take things with a grain of salt;;

kbl:

semantic error - very popular for a reason, its super cute w/ an enemies to lovers storyline, definitely fluffy at the end

roommates of poonduck 304 - rom-com style roommates/coworkers fall in love, honestly i just love jiwoong in this role, there's a third act fight i find annoying but it doesn't drag the series down!

the new employee - SO good. feels very genuinely lgbt as opposed to just bl (if that makes sense). refreshing communication.

love tractor - receives a million stars simply for having the cutest main love interest of all time. hes adorable. city boy meets country boy etc etc

choco milkshake - disclaimer: weird premise of a guy's pets come back as humans. additional disclaimer: i did almost cry. its really well acted and super cute and fluffy.

all the liquors - the plot makes no sense but the main characters are so charming that you look past it.

tinted with you - mr. park junhee goes back in time and meets a prince. its short but tbh one of the better paced mini kbls since it keeps itself contained.

nobleman ryu's wedding - another historical one, ft han sejin. i don't remember all of the details of this one but i do remember it being sweet. there is a random love triangle though so...be advised

mr. heart - han sejin is in this one too! sports/ track theme. basically the quintessential fluffy kbl mini-series.

love class - apparently a second season is coming soon?? anyway fluffy college bl.

what are your top rated bls of all time. i need some recs.

Hi anon! Sorry this took forever I was busy when I first saw this ask and then it got buried under all the others 😔 but! Of course I have recs for you!

Not gonna go for the obvious ones like Theory of Love or A Tale of a Thousand Stars or even Bad Buddy which I really do love despite my hatred for the finale bc you likely already know those. So here’s some BLs I looooove but don’t really post about-

1. Light On Me- korean bl, high school setting, love triangle done Very Well. I did talk about this a bunch when it was airing but not so much anymore. It’s definitely my favourite k bl tho and I love it with all my heart. 1000/10 would recommend, absolute perfection.

2. Gameboys- filo bl set near the start of the quarantine, showcases the sudden shift in lifestyle caused by the pandemic, the rise of online intimacy and coping with long distance relationships, very cute and heartwarming show. Everyone should watch it at least once.

3. Dark Blue Kiss- thai bl, this one is a bit controversial bc a lot of people hate it but to me this show- particularly PeteKao’s plot line -did a really good job of exploring the effects of issues like internalised homophobia and being forced to be closeted by societal pressure on queer relationships. A lot of people who watch it completely miss the nuance of the plot tho and just reduce it to an overdone jealousy arc which isn’t even the case. Anyway, I think DBK is a lot better than most people realise and it definitely holds some really important conversations about queerness in modern times.

4. Mr Heart- korean bl, short and cutesy story featuring secret crushes, (re)meet cutes and a lot of running (with a dash of poverty struggles)

5. A Man Who Defies The World of BL- japanese bl, parodies the cliché and/or toxic sides of the bl industry and bl culture by setting up the story from the pov of a man who realises he’s an extra in a bl world and makes it his mission to avoid falling into a romantic plot line by all means. It’s funny and simple and does a great job of highlighting the ridiculous nature of some of the most prevalent bl tropes.

6. Kieta Hatsukoi- japanese bl, cutesy high school concept ft shenanigans and queer realisations. I was actually really hyping this up when it started airing but then Bad Buddy and Not Me started and it got lost in the excitement of those two. Still, it’s a really cute and wholesome show and I really enjoyed it. Highly recommend if you like fluff.

7. To My Star- korean bl, celebrity au AND they were roommates! This one was super fluffy and wholesome too and there’s gonna be a s2 with (allegedly) lots of domestic fluff. Definitely recommend watching s1 before s2 comes around.

8. Cherry Magic- japanese bl, finally something with grown ups T_T and! There’s really good aroace rep! This is one of those shows that I don’t really obsess over much but if you ask me for a list of my faves it’ll be there at the top without a doubt. Definitely my favourite japanese show so far.

Annnd that’s all I can think of atm. What are some of you guys’ fave BLs? Or just Asian dramas in general? Also I kinda wanna do a non bl thai show rec now too, should I?

hii yura, i've been reading kieta hatsukoi and bloom into you recently and because you sometimes post manga stuff that looks interesting i wanted to ask if you could recommend some other lovely stories? :) also no pressure to answer this <3

romance :

sasaki to miyano - a school life romance between 2 boys, miyano who is obsessed with all things bl and sasaki who is 1 year older then miyano and is absolutely smitten by him,, they basically become friends and miyano ends up lending a ton of bl manga to sasaki and their entire relationship is miyano babbling on about whatever new bl he read and sasaki just being . heart eyes af :’) also it’s important to know that the author said they don’t regard this manga itself as a bl, it’s just a romance that happens to be between 2 boys,, you’ll understand why as u read it but dkdhdkdj it’s so adorable and cute and pretty and also has a fun cast !!!! ( also getting an anime in 2022) but i think the best part of this manga is miyano’s self discovery and him thinking about his own relationship w his interest in bl, it’s super super interesting …

run away with me girl - this is basically a romance about a girl called maki, she’s a phd student who has no idea what she wants to do w life and is enduring her nagging mother constantly telling her to get married, and then comes in her first love from her student days misaki !!! the dreamy and free misaki who always had both of them running off somewhere to go on adventures, only she’s now pregnant and apparently getting married soon? this is a story about a girl who wants to run away from the world and her lover who will hold her hand and take her all across the universe if that’s what she wants … the art is so so so spectacular you must must MUST read this, it takes u away into a whole other world ….

i hear the sunspot - this manga centres around taichi, a financially struggling student who’s constantly looking for part time work because he keeps getting fired for his fiery loud personality, and kouhei, another student who has a hearing disability. the way it shows the 2 of them falling in love so slowly but surely just feels so real ??? and believable ?? and it also talks so much on what having that disability entails and how it affects how u treat the world and how the world treats you in turn, it’s a very very interesting read !!!! also once again the art is … gorgeous

still sick! - this manga takes place in a company where shimizu, competent member of staff who is looked up to by all her juniors, has a secret hobby of being into gl manga,, and she ends up getting discovered by maekawa, her coworker.. maekawa ends up wiggling her way into shimizu’s life and they both have the cutest and chaotic relationship and they both have the most Beautiful impact on each others life, growth and self discovery ?? it’s a story about finding your way in life you could say, w load of comedy and romance <333

kieta hatsukoi - a school life story that revolves around aoki and his 3 friends !!! aoki basically has a crush on hashimoto (the girl who sits next to him) and finds out that She has a crush on iida, and then (yes there’s more djskdhdk) iida somehow misinterprets and finds out that aoki has a crush on iida himself 😭 now this might sound like a super tiring storyline but it’s the most beautiful love triangle ( if you can call it that even) i’ve ever seen and i enjoyed every single page of it, all the characters are SO endearing and the friendships are so wholesome and the comedy and art style is amazing … overall good vibes and will make u smile sm just please please trust me on this one chsndjxksm it’s so good ….

fantasy :

witch hat atelier - tbh i don’t know how to describe this story in a way that can encompass completely everything it is about, but it’s probably one of the, if not the, best story i’ve ever read :))) it takes place in a world where magic exists, magic that can be accessed through the art of drawing ! coco, due to unfortunate accidents, ends up becoming a magic apprentice of a man named qifrey along with 3 other girls and it’s a story that revolves around … learning, the morals and ethics of magic, what kind of magic is evil and what kind is good? it had lowkey made me cry on certain parts, not because of sadness but it just … made me think in a way i have never before?? it told me things i never knew i wanted to be told and yeah it jdhzkxjxjz also it has the most ENDEARING cast and i love them all and their dynamic together, not to mention the art ??? THE ART !!!! look it up because hdjdkxjsks BREATHTAKING …. it’s a story that has children characters and treats them exactly how children are meant to be treated :’) it will make u very nostalgic of ur childhood hxksndk

jujutsu kaisen - ok we’ve all heard of this one but ima put it in anyways bec imo the manga is suuuch an amazing read and it’s defo worth it even if you’ve seen the anime :’) gege’s sketchy art style is amazing and all the fight scenes are so cool and the way the story weaves together is just *chefs kiss* also has some very amazing and heartbreaking character arcs !!!!!

chainsaw man - i honestly don’t know what to say about this at all …. as in …. you should read it 100% but there is no way i could ever describe this manga other than, please read this in its entirety with no context i swear to god it’s a … uh…. experience 😭😭😭😭😭 but yeah in general it’s an action/fantasy manga and has some very complex storytelling !! :)
