Sometime last year, a friend casually mentioned something about the name of building that the original MILK shop was in being confusing or hard to google. So I absolutely went hog wild and researched every possible thing I could think of about this building and ended up staring at google maps to find where the old entrance would have been, then my partner was playing Persona and I was like “omg, this is where MILK was!” And I got totally obsessed with the idea that harajuku is the way it is because a drive in diner for US service men was there in the 50s. And then I went to Tokyo and was going to stand where MILK used to be, but by then I was over it and was like “I already went there the last time we went to Japan, I just didn’t know it was MILK at the time, i don’t got time in my schedule for this!”. Lol I didn’t even go to kiddyland.
anyways, idk if she used that info in a blog post, but I have dozens of jpegs saved of 1970s Tokyo shop fronts because of this, so maybe if she didn’t, I’ll try to put these (very boring, very numerous) thoughts out there on tumblr sometime.
or at least the jpegs and a rundown.

Day 13 - Japan Blog - 19 February 2024 Last day in Japan *sad face* We still have a few hours in Kyoto before we start the trek of 2 trains and 3 planes home. SO -- Im going to Kiddyland!! Although, I wasnt really happy with the one in Kyoto. The best Kiddylands are definitely Osaka/Umeda and the original one in Harajuku (I dont know if that is the original? Is it? I dunno! Its my original one haha!) We caught a taxi to the trainstation again because I couldnt be bothered walking and taking an extra train -- but this time we had some more time.... and I had a goal to get an EkiBen today and I succeeeeeded! Ben had a Korean Beef one and I had Tonkastu Pork — they were hell goooood! I was craving lollies so I even had one of the Nerunerunerune… or DIY candy kits (but this one is directed at Adults, yep yep!!)
So, here we go, our 30 hour trek home. (I’m not home yet and I’m exhausted and sore and I would kill for a shower and a soda water)
When we got to Haneda (Tokyo Airport) we were super early so we had lots of time. We were actually too early and had to take our bags shopping with us!! There was another Hakuhinkan Toy Store inside the terminal. Which was actually amazing! They had a whole section on aviation toys with models and keyrings and all sorts of nerdy stuff. Ben found a Godzilla for $17AUD and I bought a Licca-Chan doll. We had heaps of time to decide what to eat — we settled with ramen and gyoza. Ben got two lots of gyoza because they were pretty satisfying. The airport was much better this time around -- last time nothing was open and we couldnt eat or get last minute souvenirs. As we were boarding -- the ANA Pikachu jet was next to us!!
The flight home was easy because it was a night flight -- I could just knock myself out and sleep. However there were so many people coughing, it was gross!!
When we landed in Cairns I wanted to go to the Esplanade but apparently it costs $30 one way to drive for 6 minutes (stupid!!) so we just ate the junk at the airport again. I had an Aussie Whopper to “celebrate” being home.🍔 (a whopper with egg, bacon and beetroot) But there we go! I got to see snow, and snow monkeys and eat at a conveyor belt sushi train and go to Legoland!

10, 18, + 30 :)
10. what’s something you’re excited for? CHRISTMAS! Always and forever Christmas! I'm also excited to learn more Japanese. I've started to have dreams in Japanese so I think that's a good sign :D
18. do you still love stuffed animals? Yes, very much! I don't buy them, though, as I don't have much living space but, for example, whenever I can visit Osaka I will always go to Kiddyland to the kids' stores to look at all the cute items and toys. Miffy toys are also a big hit <3
30. what reminds you of home (doesn’t have to mean house… just things that remind you of the feeling of home)? As long as I can remember, looking at the excellent star sky at night (that kind where there is no empty spot on the sky and you can see milky way perfectly over your head) has made me feel the most home. I grew in a forest and the star sky in winter is the only thing I miss from that time.

Thoughts on Canon Universes: Part 5/5
Kiddyland: The original circus AU! Or maybe a mini theme park? In this one, we have adorable lion America. England, amusingly (and fittingly) is a magician in both this and Circustalia. Once again, everyone looks great.
Gakuen: This used to be one of the super popular AUs along with Cardverse. The academy theme made it easy for a lot of fans to work with. Now I don't see it so much anymore, but that's all right, because like Cardverse, it could also be a bit overdone at times. It's not bad, though!
Tsunotalia: They look very nice! I see a bit for this AU here and there, but not a ton. I don't have a whole lot of ideas for it now, but maybe someday it'll give me some inspiration! They could be some kind of fae like spirits? I don't know.
Hotelia: There isn't a ton of variety in designs or roles here, and when I look at it i just automatically want to turn it into a Suite Life AU.

Last photos - merch! These are the Kirby and Sonic merch hauls. We got other stuff (Zelda, Sonic, FF (MUSIC BOXES), KH), but these were the big two.
Kirby - Like I mentioned before, Kirby is super popular and easy to find. You'll basically fall over into mounds of Kirby merch anywhere you go. But the best spots were the Nintendo stores (of course), Kiddyland, and crane game places. ESPECIALLY the crane game places - each place seemed to have different Kirby merch but they all invariably had multiple machines for Kirb stuff. Nakano Broadway also just had piles and piles of Kirby stuff (plushes mostly). Meta Knight seems less popular but I got a good dose of our good pink boy. Swing Kirby are the cutest little figures. I should've gotten more Kirby cups...the big bin at the back was from a crane machine and had sweets inside.
Sonic - Also mentioned before, it's really hard to find Sonic merchandise in Japan! The SEGA stores are gone, and Joypolis was slim pickings even though we went right when they opened. I only saw one crane game the entire time (isn't GiGo owned by SEGA???) that had Sonic merch in it, and only one Gashapon machine (the Knuckles keychain). There's a COSPA store in Akihabara that had some stuff (but way more cool Gundam stuff so its worth checking out anyway), but the best spot for Sonic merch was definitely Nakano Broadway because it was more older/vintage/western stuff. Got the Sonic Frontiers statue there, and saw multiple other generations of big Sonic statues. Still got some awesome shirts and keychains from Joypolis tho! I had been hoping to see some of the older SEGA Sonic stuff floating around like the tea cups they used to make - alas!
For merch overall, Nakano Broadway was a big winner over Akihabara. Akihabara was very much newer anime merch and stuff, while Nakano was truly the geek paradise we hoped for. Nakano Broadway also just felt like a weird liminal maze from the 80s, just an odd but cool vibe.
