In her fantasy novel, ‘Six Crimson Cranes,’ Elizabeth Lim tells an enchanting tale of love, magic, family and sacrifice as we follow the unlucky princess, Shiori, as she attempts to save her brothers from a terrible curse.

Once a pampered princess, everything changed for Shiori when her wicked stepmother transforms her six brothers into white cranes. Cursed with silence, Shiori is the only one who can find a way to save them. If this story sounds familiar, it’s because it should. Lim’s novel is inspired by the fairy tale of ‘The Six Swans,’ reimagined to take place in Kiata, an East-Asian inspired fantasy world.

The original story of ‘The Six Swans’ is a German fairy tale that was included in the collections of the brothers Grimm in 1812. The story tells of a king who managed to get lost while hunting and was offered aid from an old witch, on the condition that he marry her only daughter. While the king was reluctant, he agreed to the deal. The king had been married before, however, and already had six sons and one daughter from his previous wife. Fearing that his new wife would hurt them, he sent them away and would visit them in secret.

Its absolutely fascinating to reread Six Crimson Cranes after having consumed Her Radiant Curse. Seeing Channari go through all of that, and come out the other side even more jaded and angry when everything she wanted was a breath away. I truly wonder what made her make the decisions she did, regarding Shiori. A part of me wants to assume that she is doing this out of love and care for what Shiori could become. especially since through her eyes to have magic is not a blessing, and to have a dragons pearl even less of a boon. But she also fulfills the role of wicked stepmother in this story, so maybe she forgot her promise to Vanna already. All that being said, its been awhile since I read Six Crimson Cranes and although the Six Swans is one of my fav fairy tales, the first go round I wasn't particularly entranced by this retelling. So I remember little.

its been Otoya recently

so my bf's fave bllk boy is karasu so we talk karasu and otoya a lot a lot. and he fed me college au thoughts and my brain took offffff.

but so meeting otoya my freshman year of college bc i tag along with my roommate over to their friend's dorm and otoya happens to live there too. and first night there accidentally falling asleep next to him on the couch definitely sets off the crush and then he's my classmate and our crushes on each other just fester and afnhsvnfjvh. BUT WE'RE BOTH SO STUPID WE CAN'T NOTICE THAT WE RECIPROCATE EACH OTHER'S FEELINGS.

like it takes me months to even realize/admit i like him and can't imagine him liking me. meanwhile he def only came to college bc he wanted to hook up with hot chicks only to end up with a crush on me in the first month (not that he realizes) and hates that he's been at college and not hooked up with a single girl cause he keeps subconsciously sabotaging them. we're both just oblivious babies. but he's annoying and likes to make me flustered bc he loves it and i think he's just messing around. we drive our friends absolutely insane bc everyone realizes we like each other but us....

takes us over a year to notice honestly. but once we do? attached at the lips, we're pda to the max (sorry y'all we're gross)
