Klaroline Fic: The Wolf IV [01/13]
Tumblr media
Summary: Five years after the downfall of the Mikaelson family, Caroline returns to New Orleans to fulfill the promise she made to Marcel: one day, she would be back for the man he has been keeping prisoner in the bowels of the old compound, and she would not be leaving without him. But the plans to abandon the city's eternal loop of tragedy behind once and for all are thwarted when a new enemy with unexpected old ties resurfaces, threatening not just Eve's life, but Caroline's as well.
--
S04E01 Gather Up the Killers ✨
The thing about finally getting something you longed for what feels like an eternity is the accompanying dread that it might be taken away.
Even after five years, Marcel is still not used to having it. Peace.
Nobody tells you how unsettling peace is. How it manifests as a constant nagging in the back of your mind, like you're forgetting something, getting soft, letting your guard down. It's quiet and harmonious, yes, but it's also a kind of fear. A cold shudder at the pit of your stomach, as though at any second it can all be snatched away from you.
If he doesn't watch himself, it can easily descend into paranoia.
He doesn't think there has been a single day where he hasn't been on full alert mode, looking over his shoulder, watching over the city from his not-so-new penthouse like a vigilante, waiting for the monsters to come out. And then he remembers that there are no monsters anymore. None greater than him, anyway. He is the thing that everybody fears.
He's always tiptoeing around that delicate line separating caution from madness, one sudden move around a corner away from overreaction that could send all the hard-earned balance they've achieved blown into the air.
One wrong move from turning into him.

-- Took forever and a day, but ta-da! Starting part 4 was so much harder than I thought, but well. Here is something! Like I said, I'm not starting a new AO3 story for this, it'll be [22/34] there, but for the sake of being clearer here, I'm using the S4 numbers and a new summary.
I don't have any art or edit or anything to go with this story, so I just searched my old edits folder and found something that more or less applies, so there you go. :D As always, your comments/kudos/reblogs mean the world to me and I really hope you guys enjoy it! Cheers!

Queen of the People
Caroline would do anything for her poor excuse of a father. Even becoming the future Queen to Klaus Mikaelson.
word count: 3.3k+
also available on ao3 and fanfic.net
Despite Caroline’s known reputation for being a people person, she was not in fact a people person. Sure, she organized galas and tried on dresses a bit more often than a normal girl, but its not necessarily because she wanted to do them. Having a family like hers meant fighting harder for their name on a list. Or for anything, really. But Caroline wouldn’t complain. Why should she? People like that never win. But sometimes Caroline didn’t know if there was anything to win.
But she had to ignore those thoughts, and stick her feet into those tiny, tiny heels. Like now, as she tried to listen to her friend Katherine’s rant about the lack of humble men at the party they were currently at.
“Look at him, Caroline. Sure, he has a nice suit. But that’s it! And look at his face - mediocre at best. I wouldn’t even allow my maiden workers to date him. What a pig.” Katherine said, the cruel words slipping out of her mouth like nothing.
“Katherine,” Caroline sighed, “I’m sure he’s a nice man. You haven’t even spoken to him. Or to any man at this ball for that matter.”
“I don’t need to speak to him to know how much of a prick he is. It’s all in the posture, Care. They way they walk - how they step into a room like they own the place. Please. My father earns more in a day then they do in a year.” There was a beautiful scowl on Katherine’s face as she said this. There was usually one on her face. Katherine Pierce - beautiful, intelligent, talented, rich - but cruel, mean, and selfish. “I guess I’ll go talk to that one, he looks familiar. I think he’s a Salvatore.” she pointed her finger at a handsome blonde across the room. “I’ll see you later, Caroline.”
And now she was stuck in this overpriced ball alone. It wasn’t odd for Katherine to run off with a man despite talking bad about them, but she had hoped one of these days Katherine would stay with her for the duration of the party. So she wouldn’t be forced to conversate with the rich socialites that hated her purely because she wasn’t born with a silver spoon attached to her.
Caroline picked up her wine glass and moved to talk to Hayley, someone who just shamed her for not being able to afford the finest dresses, and not for having a condemned father. But before she could make a step, she was interrupted.
“Hi, I’m Rebekah.” The accented stranger said, clad with the finest clothing. Unlike what most people would think, Caroline wasn’t that good at recognizing designer clothing. But even her fashion deficient mind could tell what the gorgeous newcomer was wearing was worth of royalty.
“Um, I’m Caroline,” she said, flustered. “I’m sorry but, have we met? I don’t think I’ve seen you around this social crowd.”
“Oh, sorry. I’m here with Marcellus Gerard. I wouldn’t have normally come to this type of gathering, its a bit below my tastes. Anyways, have you heard of him? He’s my fiance.”
Had Caroline heard of him? Oh yes. Marcellus Gerard was one of the most prestigious bachelors of the country. Well, according to this new information, he wasn’t a bachelor anymore. And here she was, talking to his fiance. Clearly a rich one, which could be told from the way she acted like this world class ball was nothing but a mere cheap gathering. She was also quite beautiful. Her eyes pierced in a way that made Caroline think if she was asked to get out of here with her, she wouldn’t say no.
“Yes, I’ve heard of him. He knows my best girl friend, Katherine Pierce.”
Rebekah’s eyebrows rose in amusement. “You’re friends with that monstrosity of a whore? No offense to you Caroline, but she’s screwed more of my friends than I can count.”
This comment left Caroline quite surprised. No woman looking to marry up would speak like that in such a public event. But perhaps she was not marrying up, but marrying down.
“I’d prefer you not talk about her like that. She may be a whore in your terms, but she is still my friend.” Caroline spit out, not even shocked at her own behavior. She was a classy lady at most times, but cross her friends and she’d make you regret it.
Rebekah didn’t take what she said as seriously as Caroline did, the corners of her lips rising as she replied. “I like you. Classy. Snarky. You’d make a great Queen. But back what I came over here to say,” she sat her own wine glass on the nearby table. “You see that cocky little blonde fellow over there?” Rebekah looked over to the right, her eyes urging Caroline to look.
And she was so glad she did. There stood possibly the most gorgeous man she had ever laid her eyes on. Beautiful blonde curled hair, dark eyes that could see into the darkest parts of your soul, and thick seductive lips. The suit he was wearing only added to his allure, fitting him in all the right places.
“What about him?” She said, her voice quiet as if he could hear her as far away as he was.
“That’s my brother, Klaus. He hasn’t stopped talking about you all might. ‘Look at her’ this, ‘What a beauty’ that - it’s exhausting. I was hoping you’d talk to him and get him to shut his mouth. I have to hear it enough already.” this
“He’s interested in me?” Caroline was shocked. It wasn’t because she thought she was ugly, she definitely was not. Caroline Forbes was one of the most beautiful girls in the city, and that’s speaking humbly. But in this world, beauty didn’t attract suitors. Money did. And since Caroline herself was the reason she could afford to get in this party, she didn’t exactly have a lot of men lining up at her door. “Are you sure? He does know I don’t come from old money, correct?”
Rebekah flicked her hair across her shoulder. “Oh, he’s interested. And sweetheart, of course he knows. I could tell from the quality of that dress that you picked it up from some boutique and didn’t have it tailored. Now go talk to him, I don’t have all night. Marcel is waiting for me.”
Rebekah spun around and left without allowing Caroline to say a word, not even looking back to see if she had followed her orders.
Caroline looked back at Klaus, wondering if she should talk to him. He was now sporting a smirk, common among egotistical men she had often met. But as she looked around for other options, she decided it was best to indulge in the part of her that thought about nothing else but men and romance.
A burst of temporary confidence burst through her as she walked up to him and tapped him on the shoulder. “Hi. I’m Caroline.” Her smile said a million words, possibly the brightest thing in that ballroom.
Klaus turned around to look at her, his eyes raking up and down her body. “Well hello there love. I’m Klaus, but I’m guessing you already know that from my wretch of a sister. Let me guess, she told you that I think you’re the most beautiful woman I had ever seen, and that I wish to marry you someday, however long it takes.”
Caroline’s smile faltered. ‘Uh, yeah. Sort of.”
“Well,” his face slowly turned into a rotten grin. “She was correct.”
Damn it. Caroline thought. He’s gorgeous, has the voice of an angel, and is annoyingly charming.
“She also told me that you were annoying, and that you couldn’t shut your mouth.”
“I couldn’t shut my mouth about you, of course.”
Caroline couldn’t hide her genuine grin from appearing. Not the fake one she was too used to showing, but her actual happy smile. She had barely been speaking to him for a minute, yet something about him made her happier than most men could ever dream of.
“Do you want to dance?”
And with that, Caroline dragged Klaus on to the ballroom dance floor, and they danced.
--
They ended up dancing for hours, something Caroline had never done. Even Katherine showed surprise when they bumped into each other and she was still there. And the truth was, Caroline never wanted to leave. She was having the time of her life and she didn’t want the high to end. But as they say, good things always come to an end.
“I have to go, I need to check on my father.” Caroline whispered to Klaus, slightly love drunk from their torrid evening.
“Are you sure? You can’t stay a little longer?” Klaus whispered as well, the night having the same effect on him.
“I can’t. You don’t understand. My father … I need to check on him.”
“Very Well. I have … business I need to take care of later tonight anyways. Stay safe for me, love.”
Caroline blushed at the term of endearment. It wasn’t a unique or particularly special pet name, but they way he said it when he looked at her made the butterflies in her stomach go wild.
“Will you be at the next party in this district? I heard Bonnie Bennett is hosting a gala for her engagement to Malachi Parker.” Caroline looked at him hopefully, wanting to at least see him again. Maybe next time she’ll wear a prettier dress.
“For you, Caroline, I’ll go to the next thousand parties in the district. No matter how much my sister complains.”
Caroline softly smiled. “I’ll see you, then.”
               “I’ll see you.”
The lights were turned on when Caroline arrived home. The lights were never turned on when she got home. Her father, as garbage as he was, always had a strict bedtime schedule for himself. The one good quality about him, her mother used to say before she ditched him and Caroline for a richer suitor and moved across the country.
That fact made it all more worrisome when she saw unfamiliar horses outside the house.
Hurrying inside the house, she rose her voice to a rate where no self righteous man could ignore her.
“What are you people doing inside my home?” She quickly found her father and stood in front of him, like that would make the intruders simply leave them alone.
“We’ve got orders from His Majesty's secretary that we arrest him for not paying his debt.” The man who spoke was clearly the head of the nethanderals, his badges just the tiniest shiner than the rest.
.   Caroline flipped her head to her father, rage filling her eyes.
“Debt? Really Father? What for now? Betting on the horse races? Alcohol?”
“You were right by the first guess, m’am.” One of the men said, an impatient tone in his voice.
She turned her anger filled gaze over to the man who interrupted her. “Was I talking to you?”
The clear heat in her voice made him back down, his gaze falling to the floor.
Caroline turned her head back to her father, and spoke to him in a whisper. “How could you do this? Do you know how hard I’ve been working to try to pull your reputation out of the gutter?” “Caroline, darling- you don’t understand how hard it's been for me. I’ve- ”
“How hard its been? For you? You did this! How about how hard its been for me? Suffering at the choices of my failure of a father!” She took a deep breath and tried to organize her thoughts. “You know what? Its okay. I’ll handle this.”
At that, she turned around and flashed her biggest smile at the soldiers. “Boys. I’m sure we can figure something out. It's a lovely evening, after all. Wouldn’t you rather spend your time out at a party instead of arresting a good man for an incident that can be easily solved.”
“I’m afraid not m’am.” A soldier said. :”We got orders from his Majesty himself.”
“You said his Majesty’s secretary. Not his Majesty himself.” This was a stretch, Caroline knew, but she had to try something. She couldn’t let her father be taken.
And why did his Majesty care so much about an old man’s gambling debts?
“That’s pretty much the same thing miss. Now like you said, we do have parties we’d rather be at so if you’d let us take him in we could be there sooner.” He stepped forward, signaling for the rest of the men grab him.
             “Take me instead.”
Caroline had no idea why she said that. It would probably be best if he was taken in. Less problems for her, less problems for everyone.
But he is her father, and she couldn’t bear the thought of him rotting in some jail cell. She would do anything for him. Even taking his place.
The soldiers looked at each other, exasperated looks on their faces.
“How about we take both of you, ask whoever's in charge to decide? This could take a while and I have a reception to attend.” The lead one asked, running his hand through his hair.
Satisfied, Caroline nodded her head and allowed the armed men to take both her and her father into custody.
--
The location they had taken them to was much nicer than Caroline expected. Heck, it was carpeted. And not cheap carpet either. Beautiful imported carpet. It was of royal caliber. And that was saying something, considering Caroline had never expected to find carpet of all things so beautiful that she described it as of royal caliber.
It was also heavily guarded, which was to be expected, considering it held criminals. But the guards were decorated. Heavily decorated, enough to where the shiny medals the soldiers who took her in wore were considered cheap.
When her and her father were led into a room that held the royal crest on its door, that’s when it hit her.
She was in the royal dungeon.
She chastised herself for not realizing it sooner, although the class of the area made it seem like an ordinary office instead of a dark dungeon that held the scariest criminals. And that posed another question - Why was her father in the royal dungeons when he was arrested for illegal horse betting, and not murder?
Her curiosity was soon replaced with fear as they were alone in that room.
Her father had not said a word yet, and she preferred it that way. She cared for him, yes - but he was the one who had gotten them in that situation in the first place. She wasn’t ready to forgive yet, not this soon.
Caroline opened her mouth to reprimand her father when the door started to open. She quickly closed her mouth but it opened again in shock when she saw who opened that door.
Klaus.
He moved swiftly to the other side of the table in front of them, a masked emotion on his face.
It was clear he didn’t expect Caroline.
But the look on his face as he glanced over to her father said the opposite.
Klaus was a beautiful man. Something Caroline definitely learned after spending the evening with him. And look of pure and utter hate that covered his face as he looked at Caroline’s dad wasn’t any different. Even in the ugliest mood, Klaus could look as heavenly as a God.
Which made Caroline’s mood very inappropriate for the situation they were in.
But she spoke anyways, hoping to ignore the dreamy good looks of the man in front of her and save her father.
“Take me instead.”
Klaus’s gaze returned to her, an annoyed look on his face. “Caroline, love - what the bloody hell are you thinking?”
“Don’t call my daughter that. How the hell do you even know her name yet? She hasn’t be registered!” Caroline’s dad had an almost brave look on his face. Caroline would be proud if he actually was brave.
“Father, it’s fine. We’re … acquaintances.” She said to him, unsure of how to tell her father ‘We danced all night at a ball and I’m pretty sure he’s the most beautiful man I’m highly sure I’ll ever see in my life.’ And to Klaus she said, “I’m protecting my father. What the bloody hell are you doing here?”
He smirked. “I forgot. You don’t know who I am.” He crossed his arms together and sat back in the chair. “Long Story short - I’m Prince Mikaelson. And your father owes me quite a lot of money.”
He was Prince Mikaelson.
The soon to be crowned prince.
Caroline didn’t know why she didn’t realize sooner. Sure, he had been kept out of the media his entire life in order to prepare for his future duties as king - but she should’ve seen the signs.
But she was too distracted by the piercing eyes of the man sitting in front of her. Damn him.
“Oh.” Her eyes widened. She was tempted to stop, to let her father be detained in the name of royalty. Then looked her father in the eyes. And she knew she couldn’t live knowing he was rotting in a cage. “Well still - take me instead. I’m sure I’m a fitting payment for the debts.”
“You shouldn’t have to be a payment for his debts.” Klaus looked over at her father, disgust in his eyes “What about you? Are you going to let your daughter do this? Waste the rest of her life to pay your debts?”
Like the useless pile of junk her dad was, he stayed quiet and looked down at the floor.
Klaus scoffed at the silence. “Fine. But since Caroline did nothing wrong, I offer up a different version of .. payment.”
At the silence of Caroline, he continued on.
“In order to become King, I must have a Queen. A Queen that looks good in the media. A woman of the people. It’s something that my father commands. But I’d also like that Queen to likable to me.” He paused, leaning forward on his elbows. “That’s you, Caroline.”
Caroline blinked in shock. “Wait, are you saying what I think you’re saying?”
“If what you’re thinking is that I’m offering you the role as my Queen, than yes.’
She didn’t know what to say. Klaus Mikaelson, future King of her entire country, was asking her to marry him and become his Queen.
“Can I think on it?” She took a deep breath, tucking a piece of her hair behind her ear.
“Of course you can. But until then, your father will have to be in a holding cell until you make your decision.” Klaus stood up, walking towards the door.
Until Caroline’s father yelled out in protest.
“You can’t hold me in here,” he yelled out widely, fear present in his eyes. “Caroline - please. Take his offer. Please.”
The tension in the room was thick. There was Klaus, disgusted that a father could tell out his daughter like that. That he could try to take away Caroline’s decision and consent to do this. Then Caroline, who was internally conflicted. She could leave, walk away to make her decision. But her father might never forgive her. And she could say yes, her father free the role of a future Queen bearing weight on her shoulders. And Caroline’s dad Bill, who cared about nothing but his freedom.
Both the men in the room looked at Caroline, waiting for a decision. But the only thing Caroline could think about is when she was 9.
It was the perfect age for her. Caroline’s mom was alive, and her father hadn’t fallen off the deep end. It was pure bliss for her. Staying up with her mother reading her favorite childhood  books, and getting up early with her dad to study and learn. It was a time she hadn’t appreciated enough. A time she wish she had now.
Thinking of those times, of all the knowledge - she decided.
‘Yes, I’ll do it.” She said to Klaus. “I’ll marry you. I’ll be your Queen.”

Caroline huffed at the rain coming down on the crowd thatsurrounded her probably ruining her blowout and her very, expensive Parisianshoes but she didn’t move. It was against orders. Even now she rolled her eyesat the image of Stefan waving her favorite gun in her face threatening to shoother with it if she didn’t follow through. Pulling her umbrella out she tried to look as inconspicuous as possiblewhich was hard for a girl with her looks.
No, she wasn’t conceited it was just a given. Carolineprobably cursed her looks more than half the time but they got her further intothe fold of her criminal family than running the books ever could. Being borninto the mafia only got you so far that much she knew being born into theForbes legacy, the rest a girl had to work for.
She was groomed to be the perfect mob wife, loving gems ofevery color, knowing who and when to strike but Caroline fought to be more thana pretty face. Caroline was on her own to prove she could get a hit no onecould get, Silas, her father’s one true enemy, he had been such an easy readand her being a woman, he never suspected her. Misogynistic bastard.
In thislife you were in deep or you were out in the cold but either way it was betterthan dead cold and sometimes buried. She had even managed to talk him into hertrunk before she shot him, two in the skull; Caroline had preened shutting theboot of the car and driving home. When everyone had seen what she’d donethey had celebrated until four in the morning and honestly Caroline didn’tremember half of it all she remembered was that she had slept with him, for thefirst time that night.
With her head bowedlow she smirked at the memory as she watched waiting for her mark knowing thisis where he would be having kept tabs on him subtlety all this time. It wasn’ther first kill but it was the first she’d feel bad about. He’d been a good layonce when she was young and eager but time had shown its pretty colors to thepair of them and his time was up.
They had sent her expecting results, Caroline always gaveresults, but she suspected they were testing her. Her loyalty, again, as ifKlaus Mikaelson had anything to do with her loyalty to the family she sneeredwatching the windows as she saw movement inside of the brick building she waswatching. It all seemed black and white to them and to them it probably was andit should’ve been to her too.
Klaus had left, joined a rival gang and mysteriously workedhis way up a lot faster than she had, done a lot more killing than Carolinewould care for having grown up with these guys. That’s where she knew she wasstill a little too green, these bastards wouldn’t hesitate to kill her butKlaus always would and her family was counting on that. The building’s dooropened, the old bell’s sound alerting her to him drawing her away from her reminiscing.
He hadn’t noticed her but she would have to be carefultailing him as he traveled on foot switching sidewalks and back roads in casehe was being followed. Klaus would always catch her when she was sneaking up onhim in the compound pulling her into rooms they shouldn’t be in to play. Shemust have been caught up in thinking about these moments too much because he’dwalked her right into a dead end.
He turned pulling a weapon from his jacket as he did pausingas he spotted her face under the umbrella, “Bugger, Caroline, you might havefrightened me to death,” he uttered in relief.
“That was kind of the point,” she replied in kind treadingcloser losing her umbrella as he drops his weapon and she lifts hers watchinghis eyes flicker from her face to her gun.
“So they sent you,” he said betrayal hidden in his tone ashe drops his only defense on the ground just like they had all expected him to.
“I’m sorry,” Caroline replied as she cocks her gun shootinghim just near his heart watching him tumble to the cold wet ground clutching athis chest.
“You know I actually believe you this time,” he murmured ina weakening tone as she rushes to his side, “Seems fitting though. This iswhere you’d shoot me.”
She laughed but it was dry, as she holds him on her lapholding his hand to his chest thinking maybe he won’t die, “Here in the heartor at a dead end?”
“Both,” he breathed his eyes slowly closing as he clings toher, “If you would have just come with me,” he tried again but blood flows fromhis mouth.
“Good job Caroline,” Damon said appearing at the end of theroad, smug as ever applauding her as Klaus lays dying in her arms.
“Funny, I don’t even need to call him closer, he comes likea good puppy,” she muttered just under her breath so only Klaus can hear her.
“You’re right, Sweetheart,” Klaus murmured as he reaches forhis own gun nearby where he dropped it shooting the Salvatore before he couldget another step in.
Another shot resounded in the air and Damon fell to the groundfatally wounded as Klaus ripped open his shirt, “Bloody blanks hurt,” hemuttered pulling the bullet from his vest.
Caroline laughs, “Probably from the force of impact,” she saidkissing him chastely, something she hadn’t done in years. “Come on, we can’tleave him out here exposed.”
“I’m wounded,” Klaus pouted pulling Caroline in for a properkiss that was long overdue and lasted longer than both might have cared toadmit after years of being apart.
When she first caught wind of this scheme Klaus was alreadyaware of it, it seemed Tyler had been bragging about it in some bar not toolong before Caroline had found out. ‘A lucky break’, he had called it when shehad used her burner phone and dialed the number she swore she would never need. His voice, familiar and altogether strange had Caroline switching sides andgoing against her own family.
They talked almost every night, plotting out just what wouldhappen, leaving nothing to chance so sure they would send her to kill him.Caroline had been proven right just three days ago before she had been sent toBoston where they knew Klaus would be alone. Everything went according to plan, everything but the residual feelings that had been exposed by the pair of themwhen she shot him. She tried to chalk it up to playing the part perfectly asthey dumped Damon with a cleaning crew he knew. Her family by now had gottenwind of what she had done and Stefan would no doubt be keeping her gun if onlyto kill her with it one day and Caroline was planning on making it very hardfor him to do.
Klaus had said she wouldn’t have to move up in ranks withhim, that she would be at his side though he hadn’t gone into detail about whatthat would entail. Caroline had made it clear that she wouldn’t be a side piecefor him or any of his men, and Klaus had vehemently agreed. As the day grewlonger Caroline could only think about what Klaus had planned for her. What hernew boss had in store for her and unfortunately they were the same man.
The car had stopped moments only  ago as she drowned in her thoughts as shevaguely realized that Klaus already on his way out of the vehicle when heducked his head back in asking, “Are you alright?” his eyes holding hers so shewouldn’t lie to him.
“Big changes, that’s all,” she uttered undoing her seat beltto join him knowing the pressure had doubled on their backs just by being seentogether.
Caroline had to prove she was loyal now; it wouldn’t beenough for everyone he worked with that Klaus believed in her. Still when she stoodup on the sidewalk pretending not to be surprised when he held her hand withouta second thought Caroline knew she had made as right a choice as anyone couldin this life. Following Klaus into the dark old building she hoped it wasn’t toher death knowing this place wasn’t his main headquarters and she would have towait to get back home, where ever that was now.
“Where are we?” she asked hesitantly as they climbed up thestairs of the building wishing she had worn more comfortable shoes for this dayespecially since she would probably be interrogated in a bit.
“My dwelling, no one would ever think to find a mafia leaderhere,” Klaus replied easily surprising her, something he must have noticed,“Tomorrow we go home.” He said almost reading her mind.
“Klaus,” she asked stopping short wanting to ask what hisintentions were but unable to, “Never mind,” she said as they climbed up thethird staircase and Caroline pulled off her shoes hearing him chuckle.
“Just in here Love,” he said unlocking the door as shecaught up with him, “It’s not much but there’s a couch which I’ll take and abed for you.”
Caroline’s face didn’t hide the fact that she wasdisappointed that much was evident by his confident smirk as Caroline turnedaround trying to hide the fact that he had gotten to her. She felt cold, herumbrella in the back of his car lying on the seat useless and they had runerrands after killing Damon. Her clothes were sticky and wet making her freezein the tempered room as he watched her slide her jacket and black top off ofher skin.
Her head turned back to look at him, “I’ll need something tochange into,” she told him watching as his mouth hung open watching as shestripped out of her camisole leaving her in a lacy see-through bra.
Klaus swallowed at her movements sensual and abovesuspicion, completely Caroline, “Shirts,” he uttered with a certain hoarsenessto his tone as he pointed to the drawer that would accommodate her best as hegathered himself.
He heard her laugh as she walked to the drawer set openingthe one he had pointed to as her free hand unbuttoned her jeans. Red flag, hethought. Caroline was toying with him, his mind screamed at him, after all thistime she still had the power to bring him to his knees and he liked it. Whathad transpired today was merely more proof of it.
Klaus slithered closer pulling his shirt over his head asshe straightened pulling her hair over her neck, “Could you help me?” she askedas his hands slid over her back to unhook her bra.
Caroline shivered, she didn’t want to earn his deference bysleeping with him and she certainly didn’t want his gang to think she would belucky to fall into bed with either one of them. The thing was she wanted Klauspure and simple. She would work for him sure, keep him close and maybe murderoff any of the girls who thought they had a chance with him on the sly.
However Klaus, she couldn’t quite read, ever since earlierwhen he basically said she had his heart he’s been stand-offish at best so shetook to teasing him, just a little. His resolve was strong but her will wasstronger and she needed to get him to talk to her, look at her like he oncedid, as a woman not as another tool in his arsenal.
“Perhaps a shower?”he offered as she pulled his shirt covering her lithe frame from his eagereyes, Caroline shook her head at him as she moved past.
“Too much effort Boss,” she said but the way she said it hadhis head turning as she slipped out of her jeans and panties before crawlingonto the bed giving him a view that made his fingers tremble.
Caroline smiled as she tucked herself into the sheets thatsmelled of him inhaling deeply as he watched her, “Comfortable?” he askedsharply.
“Did you need a pillow?” she replied in kind tossing him theone that didn’t smell like him, as she settled on her side watching him catchit and sit on the edge of the couch.
“Thank you,” he said punching the pillow as he toed of hisshoes and wet socks planning on keeping his jeans on lest she feast her eyes ona familiar protruding member of his anatomy.
“Klaus,” she called his name in way that made his boneschill in pleasure, “Get in the bed, it doesn’t have to mean anything if youdon’t want it to.”
He lay back so she couldn’t see the face he made, “I’m perfectlyfine here,” he then told her rubbing his cock hissing softly as he rolled ontohis side so she couldn’t see him touching himself.
“Fine, I’m climbing on top off you and we’ll both sleep onthe couch,” Caroline cried as she tumbled out of his bed pulling the sheetswith her and settling on top of him.
“Caroline,” he said in a dark tone she knew would haveothers shaking in their perfectly fitted suits but she just smiled relishing inthe feel of his bare skin under her fingertips.
“Bed, now,” she ordered as his arms went around her waistsitting them up reminding them both that all she was wearing was his shirt.
He groaned looking as if he was in pain as he lifted themboth up feeling Caroline wrap her legs around him, “You know I could have youkilled for this right?” he asked.
“You know I could have really killed you earlier right?” sheshot back as he pressed her back into the mattress pulling the sheets shecarried over them creating a small bubble for them both.
“Why didn’t you?” he asked, a loaded question for sure, onethey hadn’t bothered to discuss in the last few days or ever at least untilnow.
“I don’t want you dead,” she whispered as her hands cuppedhis face feeling exposed, feeling his weight on her, feeling everything at onceso much that her eyes watered.
“I love you and I never got to say it before but I want tonow. Every day if you’ll let me,” she confessed watching his every expression, every feeling she felt touch his eyes.
“I believe you now too,” he murmured before brushing hislips over hers with the briefest of teases as his hands pushed her shirt upleaving her naked under him.
“Really, no, ‘I love you too Caroline’?” she asks as hekisses her loving the feel of her body squirming underneath him as his handsroam over the tense muscles of her stomach.
Shuddering at the feel of her nails digging into his arms ashe kisses her, “It was implied,” Klaus answered her as they twisted in thesheets fighting over who got to be on top.

It’ll Be Alright
It had been a week since she turned it off, and she was absolutely reveling in it. After watching Stefan, Elena and Enzo go through a murderous rampage without a care in the world, she even surprised herself at how in control she truly was.
It’s like her mind had been liberated. No more worrying about what people might think of her. No more caring if someone doesn’t like her decisions. And certainly no more filtering how she truly felt about something.
Elena in particular.
She knew that she’d be forgiven, because that’s just what Saintly Elena would do.
“It wasn’t you,” she’d say.
“I know exactly how you feel right now,” she’d tell her, tilting her head and pretending that she actually gives a damn.
“I’m so glad you’re back,” she’d coo.
But, Caroline had already made a mental note to not ask for forgiveness. It’s not like Elena did. She just went about her merry way, pretending that she didn’t almost try and kill Caroline, or say such nasty things to her.
So why shouldn’t she return the favor?
And poor Stefan, pretending to turn off his emotions just to get her to release Sarah.
It was fun for awhile, watching to see how far Stefan would truly go with this whole charade. But she knew it wasn’t real. She knew that the reprecussions of him turning it off would be murderously higher than her own. But still...it would’ve been fun to witness.
Oh, she took advantage for sure. Seeing how far his loyalty truly lies. Hooking up, feeding right along with him, but when it came time to truly test him. It was Elena that gave it away. Putting her in danger was the final straw. His true loyalty and his true love for her would far outweigh any feelings he may have thought he had for her.
So, she made another mental note and let’s just say her and Stefan are another thing she won’t be doing once she turns it back on.
She might take up Enzo on his offer though, seeing as he doesn’t want anything to do with her until she’s squeaky clean again.
Or there was another option...
A darker option...
An option that would either be the best decision or the absolute worst decision. But aren’t those always the most fun?
She turned the knob to her dorm room, relieved to have some peace and quiet for once. Bonnie was off pouting and Elena was probably crying with Damon and making sure everyone knew how horrible she felt about this dreadful emotionless Caroline debacle.
She just shook her head and snickered. She was pretty certain that she liked herself a lot more now and honestly couldn’t see why the others didn’t too.
She crossed the floor and tossed her purse onto the bed. It was then she finally noticed a large brown paper clad gift sitting upright on her pillows. Attached was a small white envelope with a very familiar and slightly ironic note, seeing as she was just thinking of him.
She ripped open the letter and rolled her eyes, wondering what nonsense he had to say now.
“My dearest Caroline,
I heard you have decided to neglect your moral responsibilities and turn off your humanity. I would like you to know that I commend you for it. You have always been a very bright light in this world, but even suns need to set for a time.
With that said, you are always more than welcome to join me in New Orleans. I’m sure I can find more than enough trouble for you to get you into.”
She laughed at this and was seriously contemplating it. It would be quite a ride, and leaving this boring town and spending time with baddest guy she knows, actually sounded a lot better than being around her moping friends.
She read on...
“You are brilliant Caroline and you are the only one who can or should decide when you’re ready to face your realities.
I truly hope that this gift will help you, once you find your way.
Yours Always,
Klaus”
“Yours always,” she said out loud in a mocking tone that almost sounded like him.  She crumpled up the note and tilted her head, looking skeptically at the brown package.
“What did you do?” she asked out loud.
She thought about not opening it but the temptation was too great. So she popped her finger through the brown paper and in one grand gesture, tore it away.
Her hand was still in the air when she looked down at the gift. It stayed that way for quite some time, frozen in place as she gathered herself and tried to fight off the impending emotion.
But it was too much...
As she looked down at the carefully sketched image, her emotions resurfaced.
It wasn’t all consuming. It didn’t completely overtake her, but as she lowered her hand and a single tear rolled down her cheek, she began to smile.
She smiled and then laughed and soon enough...she wept.
She grabbed hold of the picture, her mother’s face so bright and lifelike staring back at her.
He hadn’t missed a single detail. Every line, every crease - the way her eyes sparkled and her smile reached ear to ear.
She wanted to reach out and stroke her face, to feel her hair in her hands and her arms wrapping tightly around her.
“Do you like it?” she heard a voice say behind her.
“That...” she started and did another laugh-cry while turning to face him. “That was a dirty trick, Klaus!”
He smiled and folded his arms across his chest as he leaned against the door frame. “Did it work?”
“Yes, it worked, you stupid ass!” she said, feeling like her old self again. “And...”
“And?” he asked, straightening himself and taking a step toward her.
“And, it’s horrible,” she spat and began to cry again.
“I know,” he told her and took another step.
“I didn’t want to feel this! I didn’t want to miss her!”
The emotions that were gradually taking their place, rushed in now, engulfing her and tearing at her insides.
She paced in place, shaking her hands and trying to rid herself of the pain. Her breath was ragged and when he closed the distance between them she looked up into his familiar blue eyes.
There was sympathy and compassion there and all the things that he wasn’t supposed to have, but she didn’t question him. She knew that no matter what, Klaus would always look at her this way.
When he took a final step she allowed herself to sink into him. He wrapped his arms around her and she buried her head into his chest, her tears staining his shirt.
“It’ll be alright, Caroline,” he promised and stroked her hair. “You’ll be alright.”

Klaroline Fanfiction Masterlist
Tumblr media
It's been a minute since I last updated my masterlist so I decided to go ahead and start a new one. Yokan // ▪ Multi-chapters
. The Wolf Series [I, II, III and Outtakes - Incomplete] When Caroline wakes up shackled, powerless and very far away from Mystic Falls, she knows she's in serious trouble. But when a woman named Sophie Deveraux reveals the reason why she's been kidnapped and taken to New Orleans, she realizes things are far worse than she could've ever imagined.
[The Originals rewriting where Caroline is a witch and gets pregnant with Klaus' child. Seasons 1, 2 and 3 complete, season 4 coming.]
. Vice and Virtue [6/6 - Complete] As the second son of a Duke, Klaus Mikaelson has the means and all the time in the world to indulge in every manner of wild activity with very little respect for the regiment of polite society. That is until his brother decides he's had enough of his vulgar ways and gives him an ultimatum. Caroline Forbes is a young debutante in search of true love and adventure. Except her aunt wishes for her to marry a somber Viscount who's already buried three wives. When their paths cross, they realize they might yet strike a deal that could satisfy their relatives and benefit them both.
[AH Regency!AU inspired by Bridgerton and a dozen other period novels I have been reading lately.]
. Pedulum [2/2 - Complete] This is what Klaus Mikaelson knows: death isn't the end for him. From the moment he is brought into the world to his final shuddering breath, Klaus' life is pretty much the same as everyone else's. The difference lies in what happens after he dies: he goes right back to the beginning, a child in London with the memory of dozens of lives lived before. Nothing ever really changes, including the fact that no matter how hard he tries, he can never save Caroline Forbes' life for too long.
[AH/soulmates!AU with a slight magical twist. Technically a one-shot, chapter 2 is just an alternate ending.]
. We'll Always Have New Orleans [3/15 - Incomplete] Caroline wakes up in a world where everything looks exactly the same, only nothing really is. For starters, she's no longer a vampire, and no one else in Mystic Falls has ever heard of witches, vampires or werewolves - no one except for Klaus, who woke up just as human and twice as angry about it. Their search for answers and a way out takes them all the way to New Orleans, and Caroline could never anticipate how much this crazy fake world was about to alter her reality forever.
[Canon-divergence!AU. Set right after TVD 4x18.]
. Speed Dating [3/4 - Incomplete] Klaus is having a bad month, so Caroline decides it's a great idea to drag him along to a round of Speed Dating. Other men in the room do not approve.
AH/AU fluff that was inspired by an episode of House (yes, it is fluff, I promise).
. Gasoline [2/2 - Complete] "He doesn't apologize, of course he doesn't. He doesn't care. He calls everyone love. It's not meant to mean anything. Except it did, once, and it makes Caroline's stomach churn away inside, as she feels Klaus crawling underneath her skin like he never left at all. I've still got you."
AH/Band!AU. Two years after Klaus walked out on his band - on her -, Caroline finds herself in her least favorite place on earth - New Orleans. She really did try to stay away from him, escaping an event just to keep off his radar. He finds her anyway.
. Like It's Christmas Again [2/2 - Complete] As Christmas approaches, Caroline Forbes, a New York-based event planner, is sent to a quaint small town in Virginia to organize their holiday festival. But her plans are momentarily hindered by the presence of Klaus Mikaelson, the Mayor's brother and a grumpy billionaire lacking in any holiday spirit, who's in town to close the sale of his family's manor - the charming estate she was hoping to use as a venue.
[AKA that time when I committed Christmas fic. AU/AH inspired by a Hallmark movie, I kid you not.]
. Spin [5/5 - Complete] Since she was seven years old, Caroline Forbes has been preparing herself to become President of the United States. But before she gets to the Oval Office, she needs to win the election for senior student president at the prestigious Saint Sebastian High - which would be in the bag if only goddamn Klaus Mikaelson hadn't decided to run against her.
[AH/AU lovers-to rivals-to-lovers The Politician!AU where everyone takes school elections way more seriously than they should.]
. How Far I'd Go [2/2 - Complete for now] Set in TVD S6/TO S2. Unable to control Caroline after she turns her humanity off, Stefan reaches out to the only person he can think of for help.
[Slices of moments of Klaus in Mystic Falls while Caroline has her humanity off.] ▪ One-shots
. The Sound of Settling Klaus hates his job at Mikaelson & Sons. He hates wearing a suit. He also hates his brothers constantly butting into his life. Everything will be better once he gets his much desired transfer to the New York branch. Caroline Forbes is the owner of Mystic Café, and when Klaus accidentally wanders into her coffee shop, his whole perspective changes. [AH/Coffee Shop!AU where Klaus is a lawyer. Fluffity Fluff. Lots of Mikaelsons and some Carenzo friendship.] . The Witch Queen Caroline always knew she was different. She was keyed into her own otherness very early on. Strange things happened around the Forbes women. Her mother never really had to spell it out to her, give it a name. Caroline could always sort of feel it, and then at some point the feeling blossomed into comprehension, and comprehension hardened into fact. And with that came an altogether different kind of certainty: this was not a secret she'd be able to keep forever. One day, no matter how hard she tried to hide it, everyone would find out. And when they did, they would come for her.
. Worst Things Have Happened Klaus Mikaelson is a prince with a very dark secret that threatens to destroy his family's legacy. Caroline Forbes is a sorceress whose job is to make sure his secret remains buried. But would it hurt him to put some clothes on? [Royal!AU, with a magical twist.] . The Unexpected Grace of Falling Apart The whole incident was bound to go down as a funny anecdote to be shared among friends, a Oh, you think you've had the worst hook-up ever? Hold my beer kind of story. Provided, of course, that she never had to see him ever and could just wipe him out of her life and memory for good. Given that they live in different time zones, it shouldn't be too much of a hassle.
That is precisely why Caroline is livid when she emerges from the arrivals area at Richmond airport to find Douchebag, in the flesh - sunglasses indoors and all, like the proper jerk that he is - holding up a sign that readsClarisse.
[AH/AU. It's Tyler's wedding weekend and Caroline is back in Mystic Falls for the first time after the most traumatic and depressing year of her life. And it's about to get even worse as she's made to share breathing space with Klaus, The Worst Guy Ever. Except they might have to join forces to save the wedding, and to the discovery that things might not be what the seem. As Caroline teeters on the edge of a breakdown she'd been trying very hard to conceal, an unexpected savior appears to help her through the haze.]
. love, the monster's got me now [Canon compliant. Set in TVD S03E09 Homecoming.]
"Don't run," he says calmly, sounding almost bored, but with a clear warning. "I'm in the mood for a chase. Little spoiler: you can't outrun me." His eyebrows twitch up when he finally turns around to face her, lips curling into an amused grin. "Tyler's girl," he states, gesturing towards the now empty yard. "You missed out on the celebrations, I’m afraid."
[Or: the missing Klaroline scene between "There's your pretty little girlfriend, Caroline" and "There's a whole world out there waiting for you." Klaus and Caroline meet after Homecoming.]
. When It's Gone Suddenly, Caroline hates how nice the bed feels. How soft the pillows are. How smooth and cool and expensive those goddamn sheets are against her skin. She hates the giddiness in her belly, like she's a stupid schoolgirl when she's not allowed to be one anymore. She hates how right the space between Klaus' arms felt, how easily she molded against him. His lips were as full and as soft as they looked, but his hands were gentler and more reverent than they had any right to be, and Caroline hates it. Hates it, hates it, hates it. She hates that it suits her, hates that she wants it, hates that none of it is hers to keep.
[Set after TVD S04E19 Pictures of You. Caroline hears about Klaus' impending departure after a mysterious letter and decides to have some words.] . Wishing Each Sigh Might Be the Last The first time she sees him, Caroline thinks he's an angel.
[Set in 1800s New Orleans. As Caroline lies dying, she prays for God to send help or end her torment and save her soul. She thinks an angel has come for her. But he's no angel at all.] . Feel the Madness Closing In Set in TO S3. Caroline is in New Orleans when Lucien and the Ancestors make a move against the Mikaelson family - and they know exactly who to target in order to get to Klaus. Paranoia sets in, sending him to a very dark place, and Caroline finally learns the price of being loved so profoundly by a monster. . Issues When Klaus' Hollywood career takes a down turn after a nasty divorce and a viral mug shot, his manager decides his life is not yet miserable enough, bringing in a PR company famous for its high-profile damage control cases.
[AH!AU where Klaus is a problematic movie star and Caroline is a PR agent with no time for his BS.] . Urban Legend "I hate myself for saying this, but I have to agree with Little Miss Sunshine," Caroline cuts in. "This is Whitmore. Nothing ever happens here. Least of all a possession that leads to a massacre of slasher movie proportions."
"Thank you, love," Klaus returns brightly. "Very flattering to be validated by you."
"Bite me, Klaus."
"Find me later, after my shift, and we can see to it," comes the shameless rejoinder.
[Or: Caroline tries to navigate life in college having the worst roommate ever, a douchebag who cannot take a hint and a nosy journalist whom she's definitely not attracted to. Never in a million years.]

Part 2 of my Klaroline Drabble where Caroline finds out about Klaus and Hayley! You can read Part 1 here, in case you haven't! Enjoy!
“Wow.” Caroline muttered in surprise as Klaus concluded rounding up everthing he was facing in New Orleans. He was laying on his back with his arm over his eyes as Caroline layed on her side facing him. Her right hand propping up her head and her left hand sprawled across his chest, drawing lazy patterns with her fingers. Klaus could only nod in return. Saying everything outloud made him truly realize just how overwhelming all of this was. He was at war with the species and didn't have a clue what to do about it. “There's gotta be some way around it. A way for all three species to coexist.” She offered calmly. Klaus let out a deep breath in furstration and shook his head.
“There isn't. It's also why I kept you in the dark about all this. Too many people in New Orleans despise me, we don't need you getting kidnapped as a means to my end.” He answered in annoyance at the inability to fix the situation he was currently facing. Caroline rolled her eyes at the lack of optimism in the man before her.
“You need to think. What can each of them benefit from each other? There's got to be something the werewolves need or something they'd be willing to settle for. Same goes for the witches and the vampires. Find the achillies heel and use it.” She suggested, shocking not only Klaus but herself. Klaus removed his arm from over his eyes and turned his head towardsd her. Glancing at her with pride and content he nodded in agreement. She was right, trying to control them by fear is what was making them revolt. There had to be something each species could do for the other and he was going to figure it out. “Fear obviously isn't getting you anywhere and I know it'll probably kill you, but try guaranteeing their safety. They'll be more willing to negotiate if you can maintain a less hostile approach.” She teased but also offered yet another valid and valuable suggestion.
“Duly noted.” He answered as he took her hand that was on his chest and brought it to his lips, placing a soft kiss on it. Caroline smiled and narrowed her eyes.
“Now, what else is bothering you?” She asked simply and suceeding yet again in catching him by surprise. It was absolutely astounding how she could read someone as complicated as him so well. Klaus preceeded to tell her the perdicament with his siblings as she listened intently.
“As you can see, the chaos and betrayal follows me everywhere.” He concluded, referring to his siblings.
“Well no offense, but you're not exactly sibling of the century. I know that's probably the biggest betrayal you've ever faced but she's still your sister and she has been for over a thousand years. Don't you want her to be for a thousand more?” She countered calmly. In such a short amount of time, she was able to decipher how Klaus's mind worked. Wrong solutions and horrible decisions were always staring at him right in the face, he just never knew how to work around them to making all the right ones. His eyes were closed tightly and Caroline took the opportunity to get a little closer to him. Leaning over him she pressed her lips softly to his, smiling when she felt him kiss her back. Slowly but surely she climbed on top so she was straddling him and her blonde curls were cascading around their faces. Klaus slowly ran his hands up her thighs until they landed comfortably on her hips. Pulling away she couldn't help the large smile plastered all over her face.
“And what did I do to deserve that?” Klaus asked as he sat up and pressed his back against the headboard with Caroline now straddling his lap. Caroline scoffed and shook her head, placing her arms on his chest.
“Absolutely nothing, but I figured you could use it.” She teased softly, shivering when he pressed his face into her neck and wrapped his arms tightly around her. Caroline smiled sadly once she realized what he was doing. He just wanted to hold her, probably for stability in his mess of a life. Feeling his warm breath on her neck she wrapped her arms around him in return. It'd only been a few weeks but she'd missed this—she missed him. All that time she spent pushing him away only for her to want him when she could no longer have him. She didn't expect to see him ever again after the last time and now she truly didn't know if she'll see him again after this time. It was then that Caroline realized that she cared, she cared about him—a lot. Even after all the crap he's going through in New Orleans, she still cared. Pulling away from his embrace she stared at him straight in the eye.
“Klaus-” She paused and he furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. “I want this.” She revealed, much to Klaus's joy. He smiled wide and tightened his grip around her waist.
“Want what, Caroline?” He asked softly even though he knew the answer and he couldn't be more overjoyed. Caroline sighed deeply and pressed a soft kiss to his lips.
“You.” She answered bluntly and crashed her lips to his. Her hands fisted in his hair before she pulled back and removed her shirt. Making sure she did it before he ripped it in half like the last time. Instead he reached her for her lace covered breasts and ripped her bra in two. Caroline groaned in disapproval and Klaus could only chuckle in return. Reaching for the bottom of his shirt she lifted it then yanked it off his body. It's been too damn long Caroline thought as Klaus flipped them over so she lay beneath him. Together falling more and more enamored with each other. -------------------------------------------- “I have a question.” Caroline asked tiredly, her head and left arm on Klaus's bare chest as his hands ran up and down her body. “Let's say I show up in New Orleans one day and decide to be with you, since you're the King...would that make me Queen? Because that's an idea I could totally fall in love with.” She asked curiously. Klaus laughed and pressed a kiss to the top of her head.
“By association yes, you would be and let me just say, you'd be a marvellous Queen.” He confirmed, much to Caroline's amusement.
“Well then in that case, this city better be perfect by the time I get there.” She silently promised and the idea of her and Klaus became something she looked forward to, as opposed to a scenario she wouldn't even dream of. A notion that made her the happiest she'd ever been...until she actually showed up in New Orleans less then a decade later.

Fic: The Wolf III [20/21]
Tumblr media
Summary: Months after their return to New Orleans, Klaus and Caroline try to settle into a semblance of normalcy, while Elijah struggles to forgive his brother's sins. But a mysterious prophecy that foretells the downfall of the Mikaelson family brings them all together in a war that will reopen ancient wounds and see each of the siblings doomed: one by friend, one by foe and one by family.
[It's The Originals Season 3, but Caroline had Klaus' baby, now she's a vampire and they are back in New Orleans after a stint in Mystic Falls. It's mostly about Klaroline, obviously.]
---
"Say not in grief that she is no more, but be thankful that she ever was. And though she was taken far too soon, may her enduring light show us a way through this darkness. Let us mourn, because we cannot move on until we do. And though the pain may at times seem more than we can bear, make no mistake: we will move on."
Caroline closes her eyes, lets out a breath through the tightness in her chest. Vincent's eulogy is beautiful, but it’s razored with sadness and resentment. It stings.
It's a harsh and gray morning in New Orleans, the weather reflecting the inclement mood and at the oddly empty cemetery. There's not a living soul around, except for the four men gathered around Davina Claire's headstone.
Them, and Caroline, hiding like a coward a few rows away. Read the full chapter here

Fic Update: The Wolf III [21/21]
Tumblr media
Summary: Months after their return to New Orleans, Klaus and Caroline try to settle into a semblance of normalcy, while Elijah struggles to forgive his brother's sins. But a mysterious prophecy that foretells the downfall of the Mikaelson family brings them all together in a war that will reopen ancient wounds and see each of the siblings doomed: one by friend, one by foe and one by family.

---
S03E21 The Bloody Crown Caroline wakes up from something that doesn't really feel like sleep. It’s as though her brain disconnected and went into a blackout state for a few hours. She doesn't feel well rested, not even close, but there's a soft tingle chasing across her skin that is oddly soothing.
She blinks out the drowsiness and follows the sensation, finds Klaus tracing the arm she has draped across his middle. It's a feathery brush, an absent-minded movement he probably doesn't even notice he's doing, but it still has the power to awaken butterflies in Caroline's stomach. Even after years, she feels it every time he touches her. Fire at the tips of his fingers.
He's facing away from her, staring at the sliver of daylight trickling in through the curtains, his usual dark and devious look replaced by something weary and distant. Caroline watches him for a long time, trying to peer through the mask of impassiveness, past the glacial ice in his eyes. She hates it when he's like this, lost in the corners of his own mind where she can't follow. With Klaus, that always spells trouble. The anger she knows how to deal with. The barks and snarls she can handle. It's the blank stares, the emptiness and the silence that scares her the most.

😃 Two updates in less than a week, and TW3 is over. 😃 Who am I, what am I doing with my life? 😃
There are loads of info on the actual story about how this will continue and some other stuff as well. We have reached the 1M words mark and I can't decide if this is impressive or if I have just completely lost control of my life. Either way, thank you so, so much to everyone who had read my long-ass fic and stayed with me through all of this. 💜 It's a mess, but I have loved living in this universe, and I hope some of you have too. 🥰
A special shout-out to my friend @definedareasofuncertainty, who was holding my hand when I posted the very first chapter, almost five years ago, and who is still somehow my friend. 🥹
I hope you guys enjoy it! And as always, your reblogs/comments/kudos mean the world to me, please support your local insane fic writer. 🥹

Klaroline Fic: Pendulum
Tumblr media
Summary: This is what Klaus Mikaelson knows: death isn't the end for him.
[AH/soulmates!AU with a slight magical twist] -- It's 9:47 in the morning when Caroline boards the train.
Klaus' lips curl involuntarily into a smile. It's a lot like seeing a movie he's already watched a thousand times, but not in a while, and yet somehow can still recall every scene, every line of dialogue, every little twist.
He knows the reason behind Caroline's panting and slightly disheveled appearance - flushed cheeks, damp clothes, wind-tousled hair. There are exactly two minutes and 26 seconds before the train is scheduled to depart. She was running late. She is always running late.
He can't tell how long it has been since the last time he witnessed this moment, not in a way that an ordinary mind might be able to grasp. Days and months and years are too small a scale for Klaus. Months and years tend to run together so easily; it's impossible to keep track.
He prefers to count in lifetimes.

This fic is my baby. 🥲 I can't believe I'm actually reposting it. It's been years in the making (and remaking, and re-remaking), so I really hope you guys enjoy it. ❤️ More than ever, your kudos, comments and reblogs will really mean the world to me. I wish I had the talent for a new cover art, but sadly my mind is empty, no thoughts or ideas, just vibes. The beautiful one being used here was made way back when by the uber talented @deadalien.
This is not being posted today by acciddent: it's here as a birthday gift to its biggest supporter, and one of my favorite fandom peeps ever, @sekretny. Happy birthday, friend! 🥳I really hope this doesn't disappoint. 🥲

Fanfic Update: We'll Always Have New Orleans [4/14]
Tumblr media
Summary: Caroline wakes up in a world where everything looks exactly the same, only nothing really is.
[Canon!AU. Set right after TVD 4x18.]

Chapter 4: Follow the Yellow Brick Road ✨
Caroline half expects to find Klaus standing guard outside her window like a creep to make sure she won't back out of their road trip - which, full disclosure, she did go back and forth on the merits of it several times throughout the night. The more she thinks about it, the more absurd it seems. It's one of those things where she has to close her eyes and jump before the seat of reason in her brain gets a chance to talk her out of it.
It's precisely why, upon waking up from a horridly slept night, Caroline tries to scrub her mind clear of any practical speculations such as Klaus is not to be trusted or This is too high a risk for something that is essentially a hunch or even Thirteen long hours in a car with Klaus - the last one gives her shudders for reasons she currently doesn't possess the required bandwidth to untangle. Instead, she punches a few essentials into a bag and braces herself for the unknown. Que sera, sera. How much worse can it get, really - she thinks, and then immediately backtracks. In Mystic Falls, whenever you think you've hit rock bottom, you realize there's a trap door and ten brand new layers of shit you can fall into and keep on falling until the end of times.
She chooses to take it as a good sign that Klaus is not outside. They agreed to meet at his place and, paranoid though he was, he seems to have decided to trust that she will keep her word. She reckons the bar is currently very low, but that's progress as far as she's concerned.
But there is something outside which should not be there and, as it turns out, is way worse than Klaus: a police car.
The Sheriff is home. Read the full chapter here -- Well, it's been a hot minute. 🥲 But in case anybody was wondering, no, the story is not abandoned, I'm just slow and have more wips than I can juggle. 🙃 This update is on the shorter side (by my standards) but it took a lot of rewriting compared to the original version. It's actually two chapters combined together (4 and 5). So that means the story will now be 14 chapters long instead of 15. Woohoo! 🥳 As always, your support, comments, kudos and reblogs mean the world to me if you are so inclined. Hope you enjoy the update!

Fic Update: The Wolf III [19/21]
-- S03E19 Where Nothing Stays Buried ✨
In his 200 odd years on this Earth, most of which were spent soaked deep within the supernatural cauldron of New Orleans, Marcel Gerard can safely say he has seen everything.
He has witnessed magic in all of its glorious, beautiful, vicious, terrifying forms. He has seen myths rise and fall across the streets of the Crescent City. He has seen miracles, and he has seen curses. There are no mysteries in the unnatural world that can still surprise Marcel. Or that's what he thought. Because in all his years, he had never felt the French Quarter tremble. Not like that.
Sturdy, robust buildings that have withstood fires, floods and the test of magic and time start to shake as if they are made of twigs and straw. A cacophony of screams sounds like a roar as people swarm the streets in a mad rush, running from the unsteady constructions. No one seems to know exactly where to run to. Everything is shaking. It's like the city is suddenly at the epicenter of a seismic shift. Nowhere feels safe.
For a spine-chilling moment, with glass shattering all around, old wood screeching as it is dangerously pressured and bent by the quake, dust raining down upon his head, Marcel thinks - this is it. Judgement Day has come to settle scores with New Orleans. All those centuries of housing bloodsucking beasts and monsters of all species have finally caught up with the city, and they will all pay the price.
But the odd thing is... He can feel the quake, and yet it doesn't seem like it's coming from underneath him. It's not the earth that's shaking. More like shock waves, traveling through the air, reverberating like sound.
That's when it hits him. He doesn't need his witches to tell him there's nothing natural about that earthquake. He knows magic when he sees it; he knows it even better when he feels it. And a surge of power strong enough to shake New Orleans on its foundations can only have come from one source.
The goddamn Ancestors.
Whatever those assholes are up to, it's big and it's most certainly bad. And he has a feeling he knows exactly where he'll find the answer.
